Portals to Hell (2019) s02e09 Episode Script

Cary House Hotel

1
Ooh, I just got a cold shiver.
Ooh.
what the was that?
What the was that?
is this place a portal to hell?
that's bones.
serious?
He believes
that you're demonic
So this should
really piss you off.
alright, here we are
in placerville,
northern california.
Yep, and we're here
to investigate the cary house,
which is the first hotel
established in the town. Mm.
So allegedly, the spirits
that haunt this hotel,
uh, get a bit physical.
They like to touch
and really freak out
the employees.
We're here to try and figure out
what the hell is going on.
how do you feel
about this one, jack?
I never love sleeping
at the location.
I don't know,
I just never feel rested,
- 'cause I'm always like, ugh.
- Yeah.
Let's do it.
cary house has actually
a really exciting history.
So, the town itself
was founded in 1854.
There was a major gold rush.
Obviously, a lot of people went
there to look for gold. Yeah.
Some people were successful.
A lot of people
were not successful.
California in the mid-1800s
was literal wild west. Yeah.
There was nothing out here.
Yeah.
And obviously, you know,
being a wild west town,
a lot of people died from,
you know, disease
or even suicide
or just mishaps that
happened in the town. Yeah?
They actually used to
call it hangtown Ugh.
Because of the amount of
hangings that took place there.
There's people that think the
whole town is haunted Mm-hmm.
But that it's concentrated
at the cary house.
The hotel itself
was built in 1849.
Uh, and I guess a lot of
famous people have stayed here,
like ulysses s.
Grant, mark twain. Mm-hmm.
Um Some really,
like,
key historical figures in america
Yeah.
Which is kind of cool.
So, the cary house,
was kind of, like,
built for the big money
kind of folk
and eventually spiraled down
into servicing the, uh
Lower companions of the town.
Yeah.
You know, prostitutes,
gambling, things like that.
Yeah.
You know, people with
bad intentions start coming
and they take over.
They've had so many employees
quit over the last year
because they're terrified
to be there.
Yeah.
The question
that they have right now is
why are so many people quitting?
They know it's from
paranormal experiences,
but what is happening
that's so bad
to make that amount
of people leave
in such a short amount of time?
oh, there it is.
Oh, cool.
Wow.
I mean, typical
"portals to hell" fashion --
hear about a hotel
that's haunted by ghosts that
keep touching people. Yeah.
So what do we do?
We check in.
That's right.
Let's roll.
Jack and I
are gonna be staying here
with our entire crew.
I actually like staying
at places like this.
Jack, I think,
feels the opposite way,
because it can be
very intrusive,
like you're never really
stepping away from work.
You have to have your guard up
every second that
you're in a place like this,
if you're staying over.
who is it that we're meeting?
Um, jen and josh.
Jen and josh.
- hi. Are you jen?
- I am jen.
Hi, I'm katrina.
And this is jack.
Hey, how's it going?
Nice to meet you, jen. Hi. You too.
So, obviously we're here.
We've heard lots of stories,
and we want to check in.
Alrighty. So, katrina Yeah.
You are gonna be in room
207 on the second floor. Okay.
And jack, room 212 on the second
floor, as well. Awesome.
So how long
have you worked here?
A little over three years.
Mm. And, like, what are
some of the stories
you've heard from guests
staying here?
Um, there are stories
about a, um --
a woman crying.
We have journals
that we put in all the rooms,
and that's a common story
in a lot of the journals
from people that don't even know
each other, years apart.
You know?
Have you experienced
anything weird?
Yeah, yeah.
A few things, yeah.
Yeah. Like what?
When I was, um, pretty new here
and doing housekeeping,
I was cleaning a room.
I got poked in my shoulder
so hard that, like,
I turned around
and really expected
someone to be there.
You know, and there wasn't.
You know, it's interesting
that that seems to be
the recurring piece of activity
that happens to pretty much
everybody that comes in here
is being touched,
being poked, being grabbed.
I'm not surprised that
they're having employees quit.
It kind of has
that uncomfortable vibe.
Hi. Are you josh? Hi. I'm josh.
I'm the general manager.
Hey, nice to meet you.
We're glad you guys are here.
Yeah. Well,
thanks for having us.
It's beautiful.
Yeah. Yeah.
Um, so we have heard
you've had some experiences.
- Yes.
- Yeah?
So in about the whole five years
that I've been here,
I have had
a couple of experiences.
I'm not really a believer
in this sort of thing.
So I kind of play
it off in my mind
as not really happening or
not what I think it was. Yeah.
But with how many people
I've had quit from the hotel
and just all the stories
that guests tell me
every morning,
it's led me to think
something's going on here.
So how many employees have you
lost in the last year?
From paranormal activity?
Mm-hmm.
They all cited because this
place is haunted? Yes. Yes.
So it's hard to,
like, keep the staff.
What's the most recent
complaint you've had?
So actually, just yesterday,
a guest came down and told us
that they were pulled
out of their bed last night.
- Wow.
- Hmm.
That's actually been
a common occurrence here.
People freak out
and decide not to stay here.
When people get
pulled out of bed,
is it always the same room?
Usually it's gonna be
on the second floor.
That's where most of
the haunted activity's
actually taken place.
there's so many stories
that we could go into
that gene's gonna tell you, as well.
Okay.
There's so much history,
so much hauntings.
Next, jack and I
are gonna meet with gene
who is
a paranormal investigator.
And I'm hoping
he can shed some light
on why this place
might be haunted.
- Katrina, nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.
I got the stories.
Let's go.
Okay, great.
Where do we start?
We can start over here
at the, uh
Base of the stairs, here.
This is kind of
where it all starts.
a little history
about the hotel,
the actual location
started here in 1849
at the beginning
of the gold rush.
It was the eldorado hotel.
In 1856, we had
a huge fire in July,
and it decimated the whole town.
After that fire,
the town was up and running
in three to four weeks.
We had hotels, bars,
everything up and going again.
Part of that is that
there were some secret societies
that basically ran this town.
They built it into what it became.
Huh.
And one of
those secret societies
was the oddfellows.
There were several in town,
but the oddfellows were one of
the most prominent ones.
Their main purpose
was to help poor people --
especially bury their families
when they couldn't afford it.
So they were kind of like
a charity of sorts.
Yeah, but what
they've been finding
in oddfellows hall
across the united states,
including the one
down the street here,
were skeletons.
They're actually hidden
under floor boards and walls.
And they used these in
their very ritualistic meetings.
And this is kind of creepy,
they stick a new member
into a dark room
for several hours
with the skeleton.
Mm.
So that they can become
face-to-face
with their mortality.
Wow.
Whoa.
A few of the owners
after william cary --
he only actually owned
the hotel for two years --
they were actually oddfellows.
So we kind of believe
that a lot of that energy
may have been brought
into the building.
Do you think they would have
done some of that stuff here?
I'm sure they did.
This was the main, central place
for people to come.
There's a strange connection
with this whole town
to the oddfellows.
Hearing about it,
it reminds me of, like,
some of those weird,
like, germanic, pagan
bone ceremonies
and -- and craziness.
Can we talk about how this town
used to be called hangtown?
Absolutely.
We got our name because of
the vigilante hangings.
There were
two separate incidents.
The original one
that hung the original three
and then irish dick
who hung 18 months later.
And documented deaths
in the hotel?
We have two.
Okay.
The first one would be
a resident bellman.
His name was stan.
And what year did stan die?
I believe it's somewhere
around 1867. Oh.
Uh, so But I don't have
the actual date that he died.
Okay. But still, he was here
in the very early life
Early times.
Of the hotel.
Right.
Hmm.
His claim to fame
was that he took care
of the professional ladies
that came through here.
We don't know what
the altercation was about --
there's rumor that he was
involved with a married lady.
Whatever the case,
the staircase behind us here,
this is where,
at the top of this staircase,
stan got a knife
plunged into his chest,
and he would have
tumbled down the staircase.
And this is where
he would have bled out.
Hmm.
Has anybody ever seen stan
or heard his name come through?
Um, a couple psychics
have been in here
and spoken to stan in the past.
Yeah.
And this is what
they got about him.
He likes to roam the lobby here.
Some guests of ours have seen
mist at the front desk.
We've heard
the front door rattle,
the front desk,
we've seen things shift.
Okay.
Mm, okay.
Should we, um --
should we start cruising around
Yeah.
And getting a bit
of the lay of the land?
Yeah, let's go for it.
this would have been
the gambling hall.
I get very uncomfortable
in here. I'm sorry.
That's okay.
Um
This is where
we have irish dick.
He was the one
who murdered a gambler here.
Okay, and what year
did that happen?
That was 1849.
And so, what --
what exactly happened,
that we know of,
based off of fact?
Irish dick, also known as
richard crone,
he was dealing
his game of monte.
The gambler
on the other side of him
accused him of cheating,
and he said,
"if you accuse me
of cheating one more time,
I will jump this table
and I will gut you like a pig."
and the gambler
taunted him again,
and that's exactly what he did.
He jumped the table,
plunged a knife into his chest,
and pushed him to the ground.
Geez.
He knew where he was, though.
We were already hangtown. Yeah.
So, it's said
that he dashed out the door.
He actually
took off down the street,
and they found him
cowering in a bar. Huh.
And they drug him
down main street
to the same place
they had the tribunal
for the first vigilante hangings
and hung him on a tree.
Wow. Wow.
And do you guys have
experiences with irish dick?
He'll make our guests
feel like they're
being stabbed in the chest.
We've had these lights
go off and on.
The doors locked on us
when we were talking about him.
I'll set up, uh, like,
a little gambling,
you know, thing,
playing old-time music --
and, um, we've had
the whiskey bottle
and one night,
the cap flies off.
So I have
the footage of that night
and I just wanted
to set it up for you.
There it goes.
- Whoo!
-
hmm.
Hmm.
Through our communications, um,
richard comes through a lot.
Um
Did you just feel something?
I just felt something on my arm.
He doesn't like it when you
call him richard Why?
So I like to taunt him
a little bit.
Through our communications,
richard comes through a lot.
Um
Did you just feel something?
I just felt something on my arm.
Um, he doesn't like when
you call him richard Why?
So I like to taunt him
a little bit, um,
and call him richard,
and he'll -- yeah.
He's come through
and slapped me before.
We did
a deprivation session once,
and I asked,
"can you see me?"
and he said, "move."
and I said,
"is that you, irish dick?
Was that you telling me
to move?"
and at that same time,
I got slapped in the face.
Whoa.
So it seems like this is a
pretty active area for you guys.
Right.
Yeah.
Right, absolutely.
So the two documented deaths
that happened within the hotel
that we know of
is stan, who was a bellhop,
and irish dick,
who was a, uh, gambler
that would frequent this area.
So two main spirits that
we're gonna be investigating
and, you know,
a whole slew of other things
which come and go, apparently.
Can we go through here?
Yeah.
Oh, w-whoa.
Secret hiding place.
We didn't even know
this was here.
Wow.
Mm.
We can go down.
Alrighty.
Katrina, after you.
Oh, thank you.
Oh, wow.
definitely a weird vibe
down here.
Yeah.
The employees that have
to come down here and work
will leave employment here
because they won't work
down here anymore.
So, have they had experiences,
or is it just the feeling?
These are people
who have been grabbed,
they're pushed.
It -- it's more, like I said,
aggressive down here.
People report a shadow figure.
So basically,
what happens down here
is a lot of shadow figures
Mm-hmm.
Aggressive behavior,
feeling like you're being
pushed or touched
or, you know, like you're in danger
of some kind, physically. Right.
Okay.
Don't want to spend
too much time down here.
why don't we head on up?
- Okay.
- Okay.
Second floor.
Did you guys smell that?
- Yeah.
- Mm-hmm.
There is a lady
who wanders the hotel
and she has a smell
of lavender about her.
We've actually experienced her
a few times.
That's what that
kind of smelled like
Mm.
As we walked past it.
Who is she?
Do we know?
All we know is people seen her,
a full-bodied apparition.
Um, we've had this door,
fully locked, open on us.
This one? Yeah, as we were
walking by just the other night.
- Oh really?
- Yeah.
It fully locked, and Yeah.
We weren't even
leaning on it or anything,
and it just opened.
Hmm.
This is a common occurrence
on the second floor.
They say that it's stan,
the bellman,
who will go down each of
the doors on the second floor
and wiggle the door knob
as if checking to make sure
everybody's okay.
Hmm.
So you may experience that.
It definitely feels like
there is something
going on here.
If what he is saying
is as it happened,
I mean, that's some
really compelling evidence
he's collected over the years.
If we could have 20%
of what he was talking about
in an evening investigation,
it's gonna be
a hell of an investigation.
So jack and I
are gonna grab the journals
that people leave
on their bed stands
and just sort of
read through them
to see if we can find anything
that might help us
for our investigation.
I'll see you later, special k.
Okay.
Holler if you need anything.
January 27th,
nothing scary happened
until about
3:00 in the morning.
"I had a dream where I was
falling and woke up startled.
I turned around
to face the bedroom
and saw a woman
wearing a pink nightgown
with black hair
looking out the window.
I got really scared
and woke my friend up crying.
And when I looked back,
she was gone."
"I saw a bright light
under the door
for a moment
before it went dark.
I thought it was
just someone walking by,
but I didn't hear any footsteps.
Out of curiosity, I opened
the door to take a peek.
I saw a small ball of light
very close to the ground.
The lights moved along the floor
towards the elevator."
oh, interesting.
"the last thing I remember
was smelling lavender."
this one speaks for itself.
yes?
Anything cool in the diaries?
Yeah. A couple people
have mentioned
seeing, like, balls of light.
Mm. Weird space.
Yeah.
There's something here.
Yeah, something active.
There is a hum, for sure.
Alright.
Well, uh, should we call it? Yes.
Alrighty. Hasta mañana.
I'm exhausted.
I'll see you in the
morning, my friend. Okay.
Alright, so it's day 2.
Slept like pretty much.
Fell asleep with the light on,
and then I woke up at one point,
and then I was, like,
super freaked out
and I wouldn't turn
the light off.
And I had to, like,
leave the light on all night.
Sleeping here was
an interesting experience.
I didn't have
anything paranormal happen,
but I -- when we got done
for the day,
I went to bed,
slept three hours,
and I spent, like, nine hours
trying to get back to bed.
And that just didn't happen.
So I don't know
what that was about.
The plan for today is to
really dive in to the oddfellows
and, like, figure out
who the hell were these people?
What were they doing?
Anything?
Actually, yes.
Yeah?
Okay, if you just do
a basic oddfellows google
Yeah.
What comes up is
these articles
about how many skeletal remains
have been discovered
in their temples
all over the country.
If you just do
a basic oddfellows google
Yeah.
What comes up is
these articles
about how many skeletal remains
have been discovered
in their temples
all over the country.
One of the owners of the hotel
was an oddfellow.
I think it's really odd
that, like,
this little, small,
mountain town
has this kind of morbid history
with the oddfellows.
This is
the oddfellows illustrated.
And if you look at the
symbolism used Yeah.
It's really
quite fascinating,
some of the stuff.
So you've got, like, a coffin.
You got the all-seeing eye.
A cross.
Then you have
some weird temple structures.
And I looked into
some of the, uh --
the people who were members
of the oddfellows --
theodore roosevelt,
eleanor roosevelt Mm.
Also,
ulysses s. Grant.
Ah. It makes sense, huh? Yeah.
It all comes together.
I thought that's
really interesting
that, you know, when you go, "oh,
he came to this hotel" Yeah.
There was a prominent
oddfellows presence here.
I found a blog,
and they're writing about
some of the things
that they would do.
"ritual practice enhances
the energy in a place.
Joint ritual practice magnifies
and re-energizes that energy.
When this happens,
a door opens to another realm.
This is the work
the oddfellows would conduct."
the owner of this hotel
was a known oddfellow.
Ulysses s. Grant stayed here,
a known oddfellow.
There's a huge oddfellow temple
here in town.
It's interesting to me,
especially, that they're using
skeletal remains for that,
because in a lot
of different cultures,
that's used for conjuring
Mm-hmm.
That's used
for good magic,
but also bad magic.
Yeah.
You say, "bad magic,"
the name of the temple
here in placerville
is the morning star temple.
Which is another name for satan.
If it looks like a duck,
and quacks like a duck,
it's not a falcon.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I have never done
an investigation that is
so layered with, kind of,
a history of involvement
with secret societies.
It wouldn't surprise me
if there was some kind of
conjuring going on.
Or maybe there's a portal here,
or some kind of thoroughfare --
something bringing in spirits
and letting them leave.
Right now, jack and I
are setting up
for the night investigation.
We have cameras placed
throughout the hotel,
and we're putting them
in the hot spots.
so, we've got the main staircase
where people
allegedly get pushed.
We have my room, katrina's room.
We've got the shining hallway
here on the second floor.
We have, like,
a kind of casino room.
We've got the creepy basement.
I'm excited to get stuck
into this night investigation.
We'll stop on the second floor.
I'm looking forward to kind of
seeing what we can drum up.
Pop up, open all these doors?
Yeah.
I have the skeleton key.
hmm.
you want to ask
some questions in here?
Yeah, let's fire it up.
- I got some items from downstairs.
- Yes.
Essentially,
old room key numbers.
We put trigger objects
in the tray that are metallic.
If some entity, or something
with it's own emf frequency
engages with
those metallic objects
which we're using
as trigger objects,
it goes off, like a rampod.
Um, I'm katrina.
And I'm jack.
And we're here, uh,
to merely document.
We're not trying
to get rid of you.
We're not trying to embellish.
Is richard crones here,
also known as irish dick?
I thought I heard
someone in the hall.
What'd you hear?
Thought I heard movement
in the hall.
really?
it is.
Like a lot?
It's flashing.
There's movement
coming from somewhere.
It's flashing.
There's movement
coming from somewhere.
alright.
Let's get to it.
When people
get pulled out of bed,
is it always the same room?
Uh, usually it's gonna be
on the second floor,
that's where most of
the haunted activity's
actually taken place.
We have this itc device --
it's small, it's compact.
Basically what it does is
it's skipping
a.M. Radio frequencies,
and the thought is that spirits
will communicate with us
using it. So
jack and I have
some questions to ask
if anybody is here with us.
did that say, "hotel"?
Oh, it kind of did
sound like that, actually.
It did sound
like it said "hotel."
huh.
Are you with us right now?
Is irish dick here with us?
You?
did a man die in this room?
Are you the one who keeps
pulling people out of bed?
can you tell us where to go?
Tell us what you want us to do.
come on.
What you got for us?
We're here.
Did it say, "dick"?
It kind of
sounded like "dick."
is irish dick here?
Richard?
Richard crone.
should we move
to the poker room?
Yeah.
right now, jack and I
are in the old ballroom,
what they believe was
the original gambling area.
This is also the room where
irish dick committed murder.
So, right now, jack and I,
we set up some triggers
around the table.
We have an empty bottle
of alcohol with a cap
and we also have an sls set up.
We have cards,
we have poker chips.
And we're just gonna
feel it out, play a little game,
and see if that triggers
anything to happen in here.
irish dick!
Do you want a drink?
Did he say, "nope"?
Did you hear a nope?
I heard a nope.
You don't want a drink?
Irish dick,
who'd you kill in here?
can you move that bottle cap?
It's so easy,
it's half on, half off.
It would take
very, very little energy.
what's wrong?
I just heard someone behind me.
Like what?
that was weird.
Like it literally
just sounded like someone --
like that, right behind me.
You coming closer to jack?
There still is the basement.
Yeah.
what the was that?
Is that our crew?
No, that was under our feet.
That was dow--
I felt that under my feet.
Do you want to take turns
going down alone?
Let's try that.
Coming down.
alright, my name is jack.
I want to know
who's down here with me.
how do I join the oddfellows?
Can I join?
is stan down here?
Ooh, I just got a cold shiver.
Yeah, like, a crazy cold shiver.
O-oh.
ooh.
What the was that?
What the was that?
oh, that just freaked me out.
katrina, were you trying
to come down the stairs?
What's that? Y--
let's go.
Ooh, I just got a cold shiver.
What the was that?
Katrina, were you trying
to come down the stairs?
What's that? Y--
let's go.
What happened?
We heard like a squeak.
Oh, you think it was us?
Maybe. Were you guys
walking around a minute ago?
I was in the chair.
I got -- it's funny.
I got, like,
this crazy cold shiver,
like full on
Yeah.
And then we heard
this, like, squeak.
And it sounded like a door
squeaking on the hinge.
What the was that?
who made that squeak?
What was that?
She?
who is she?
we're not being disrespectful.
We're -- we're just trying
to get answers.
Did the oddfellows
conduct ceremonies here?
"yes, yes."
you heard yes?
Yeah.
Did the oddfellows
open up doorways?
alright, cary house.
These are your last moments
to do something.
at this point
in our investigation,
we're gonna bring in
our friend and psychic medium
michelle belanger.
We like to call her
our psychic blood hound.
We can kind of
just let her loose
and she'll find
the trail for us.
She's blind folded,
she doesn't know anything
about this place at all.
I'm hoping she can
help us figure out
why we're not having
the same kind of results
that former visitors have had.
I'll guide you in.
We got the door.
Welcome.
very pine-y.
And -- and, uh
Feels very well-traveled
by living people,
like there is a lot
of coming and going.
And there's
a lot of layers of stuff
that people have left behind.
And a lot of that is bright,
like people who are,
like, having fun,
or on vacation, or something.
And right now,
really loud, so
Okay. Here, I'm gonna put
your right hand on my shoulder.
Okay.
So michelle walks in,
and instantly she picked up
that the space she was in
has a lot of movement,
meaning like
people come and go a lot.
She didn't know
she was in a hotel,
so she kind of
was describing a hotel.
I mean, my immediate image
is almost like a
A ballroom -- a sense of people.
There's a fellow
in a fairly nice, sharp suit
that has an early-20th century
cut to it.
He might be
He's -- he's darker complected.
His hair is slicked,
very sharp part.
A little pencil mustache.
There's a woman on his arm,
and she's just leaning in
and, like,
laughing and talking clearest.
And, like, he's leaning on,
I think, a bar.
The strongest stuff that's
coming to me feels residual.
Okay.
I'm not s
I'm curious about him.
Okay, I don't want to poke
at that too much.
I want to see what else
I get from the space naturally.
Okay.
So, if there's anywhere else
we want to go.
Okay, alright. We're gonna
head back this way
before we go to
the next place. So, here.
Okay, cool.
Hand on shoulder.
this has
an interesting feel to it.
so what types of activity
would people experience
in this space?
I would expect people to feel
like they were being observed.
An oppressive sensation.
There is something heavy
in the energy down here.
That feels
like it's not attached
to any entity or being,
but I don't think
that your average person
would be able
to tell the difference.
Um, can we pause for one second?
did you see a shadow?
Can we pause for one second?
Scott, can you
move around a little bit?
did you see a shadow?
Uh, possibly.
I wouldn't be surprised
if there are shadows
that move through here.
I-it's more, like I said,
aggressive down here.
People report a shadow figure.
The flash I get
is multiple people walking,
almost in procession,
and someone hooded.
Some sort of scary ritual.
But it -- it feels like
it happened more than once.
But a long time ago,
or recently?
I would hazard
not within the past 20 years.
She was picking up
on rituals, processions,
conducted in the basement
in secrecy and hiding.
Is it okay if I sit down?
Yeah, yeah.
if I took the blind fold off
and I looked down at the steps,
should I see a blood stain?
Um
I-I just keep seeing
That snapshot
of a body in motion.
Stan got a knife
plunged into his chest,
and he tumbled down
the staircase.
And this is where he bled out.
There is an intelligent spirit
connected to this.
I keep seeing the woman.
She is white.
She looks like
she's probably in her twenties.
I think she's an heiress.
All of the jewels
and the way she's dressed
and, like, everything that --
that seems connected to her,
she seems like she's quite rich.
There's rumor that he was
involved with a married lady.
So how would people
experience her today?
You might mistake her
for a lady in white,
because what she's wearing
is so pale.
And then, she weeps.
Stories about a, um --
a woman crying.
So I think some people
hear her in distress.
that's a lot more
than I expected to be here.
Okay.
there's a close connection
to this whole town
with the oddfellows.
Okay, so that is
another fraternal order.
Besides being
a psychic and medium,
michelle is an occultist --
very well versed
in all those topics.
And, you know, one of the things
that she said was that
yes, you know, they would have
practiced some kind of ritual.
They would have been practicing
some sort of magic.
We don't know
exactly what they were doing.
Things might get out of hand.
There might have been
some things that happened here
that weren't
supposed to happen here
in regards to
the types of rituals they did.
And if that's the case,
what doors did they open
at that point?
Do you believe
there is a portal here?
There's something
down in the basement.
I can tell you that over time,
if you are doing
things like that,
it changes
the fabric of the space --
more conducive
for spirit activity.
It's one of the purposes
of running ritual --
it's thinning the veil.
Common parlance,
it makes it a portal.
That's the whole purpose
of ritual --
you're making an opening.
how are you guys doing?
- Good, how about yourself?
- Good. How are you guys?
- Good, yeah.
- You're alive, so
- We are -- or are we?
- We survived.
You never know with us.
Well, I guess we should
talk about michelle
and her psychic sweep.
Yeah.
So michelle belanger,
she is a world renowned
psychic medium.
She is definitely
one of the best
I have ever seen
in my entire life.
I think the biggest point
we had with her,
where she felt
the most connected to something,
was at the stairs.
And she kneeled down
to get a better sense for it,
and the first thing
out of her mouth was,
"why do I think there should be
a blood stain
at the bottom of these steps?"
if I took the blindfold off
and I looked down at the steps,
should I see a blood stain?
Which we know historically
is connected to stan.
Wow.
She tuned in, though,
surprisingly, to a woman
as the most prominent
spirit here.
She definitely saw
somebody who was probably
around the 1920s era
as a young woman.
Somebody who was here a lot.
She believed she was an heiress.
All of the jewels
and the way she's dressed,
she seems like she's quite rich.
She did feel like stan might be
connected to this woman,
but she wasn't sure how.
It kind of sounds like
maybe they were from
two different time periods, so
Right.
But maybe the connection
is the stairs for them.
We took her into the basement,
and that was
another hot spot for her.
She absolutely picked up
on ritualistic stuff
going on down there.
Okay.
Um, her thought was
any time you have
that type of gathering,
whether or not there are
traditional magic,
or something a little
far back from that,
it's gonna thin the veil.
And she believes that's why
people are having
negative experiences
down in the basement.
That's interesting.
Yeah, and I think
another thing for you,
as you continue with
your investigations here,
a couple notes,
one from michelle.
She thought that if you use
verbiage from the oddfellows,
maybe if you found out things
that they might have said
in their ceremonies,
or things of that nature,
that they would
talk to you more.
Right, it's -- it's
definitely a focus
that I might take
in that direction
because now that we know
oddfellows is, um, prominent,
especially from her.
There must have been a, I think,
very significant connection
between this establishment
and the oddfellows hall
down the street.
But I don't believe
what is here is evil,
by any sense of the word.
I just think it is curious
and wants to be acknowledged.
- Mm-hmm.
- Right.
As far as employees go
Yeah, that's what I was gonna ask.
You know,
so many people quitting,
it might just be a thing
that you just want to lay out
from the jump, being like,
"hey listen, people have quit
because of this."
yeah. And I think probably
some of what's happening,
sometimes
it's really terrifying,
that first experience,
or the one that
you've never had before.
Like, it messes with your mind.
And I think a lot of people's
first response is to,
"I'm getting out of dodge"
you know?
"this is really scary."
and I think you kind of have to
take on the role of educator
at that point, and be like,
"look, we really don't know
what this is."
well guys, listen.
Thank you so much
for letting us invade
and take over
for a couple nights.
Yeah, we really appreciate
the opportunity.
If we find anything, we'll let you know.
Yeah, great.
I'll have to consider
changing my interview process.
Yeah.
awesome.
Anytime you do,
kind of, ceremonial work,
even if it's good,
it can still
thin that veil a little bit
and leave some residue behind
that people could experience.
So I think, definitely,
the hotel has these layers
to sort through.
That's gonna present itself
as really scary
to someone who
probably doesn't have
a whole lot of experience
with the other side.
