Wolf Watch (2014) s02e09 Episode Script
Perishable
Welcome to Wolf Watch.
I'm your host Jill Wagner Here with my main man DJ Cole Plante.
- Cole Plante, baby.
- And today's show is all about what goes into the making of Teen Wolf, and who better to tell us about all of that than the star of the show, Tyler Posey, and the creative genius Jeff Davis.
- You like that, don't you - Yeah! Creative genius? And we're also joined by a talented young actress - and a big fan of the show - Yeah.
Joey King.
And before we get into what happens behind the scenes, let's just talk about what we just saw, okay? Deputy Parrish was a bit of a bad-ass.
He survives being burned alive, so I want to know what kind of creature he is.
I think a lot of people - will want to know - Tell me! Including Ryan Kelley, the actor playing deputy Parrish.
- Oh, he doesn't know? - Nobody knows.
Nope.
We keep a lot of secrets, and oftentimes, we keep secrets from the actors, but I will say, uh, it's very interesting.
Whether he's impervious to all things or just impervious to fire or whether it's something else, uh we'll leave that up in the air.
Teacher.
Teacher.
He might be a phoenix.
A bird? A werefinch? 'Cause ashes.
He's covered in ash, and phoenixes rise from the ash.
I'm just saying.
And the season's all about rising from the ashes.
- I'm just saying.
- Jeff, you evil genius.
You evil genius.
Okay, switching gears.
Tyler, when you read the fact that Meredith was still alive, - were you shocked? - It's hard to be shocked - anymore on Teen Wolf.
- I know, right? You get so desensitized to shock because the first, like, couple seasons, I was, like, "aah!" I had to go therapy and learn to not do that, 'cause I was stressed out all the time.
- Did you have nightmares about Stiles and stuff? - I had nightmares.
So I knew it was gonna be crazy.
I knew it was gonna be somebody completely unexpected, so when I was read that, I was like, "yeah.
" Mm-hmm.
Okay, so Liam is seeing visions - of the berserkers.
- Yes.
- Joey.
- Yes.
What would you do if a berserker came in here now - right at you? - I wouldn't run - No.
Yes, you would.
- 'Cause that's boring.
- No! - Come on Jeff wouldn't write you to run, either.
No, Jeff wouldn't say, "run.
" Me I would just be, like, approach it and be, like, "hey, you look really beautiful.
Maybe we can be friends and maybe you can stop, like, killing people.
" They just need compassion.
Maybe they just need someone to understand them.
All right, well, every week, certain things seem to happen on Teen Wolf, and every week, we count them up, and we call them our Wolf Stats.
And not a single hookup or transformation tonight, Jeff Davis.
Ew, that's disgusting.
We did have a shirtless scene, though.
Parrish clothes burned off.
'Scuse me.
Thank you.
And one death.
Rest in peace, Brunski.
Brunski, no-o-o-o-o! Oh, no, but we also need to subtract a death from our total because it turns out Meredith is alive after all, - so subtract her.
- Subtract.
And for a bonus stat, the number of people who punch Deputy Haigh in the face is up to two Thanks to Parrish and Braeden.
But he definitely deserved that, I think.
Yeah, he did.
And here's how we stand for our numbers this season overall.
So Jeff killed off Brunski.
Ha ha ha ha.
And since this is the making-of episode, I know that there is actually a little interesting backstory there.
There is.
The actor who plays Brunski, Aaron Hendry, actually also played the nogitsune in season 3b.
Now, the interesting thing about it, actually, is that Aaron was only supposed to play the nogitsune for one or two episodes.
He was so good in the role, we kept writing him back until he became the main villain, essentially, of 3b, and then we also decided we could probably use him without the bandages and created another role for him, Brunski.
So that's an instance where an actor is so good, you just keep having them come back and back.
All right, we have to take our first break, but coming up, we'll name our next Wolf Crush of the Week.
And Tyler will be our tour guide throughout Beacon Hills.
And we've got a preview of next week's episode.
Cole, play us out, please.
Welcome back to Wolf Watch.
I'm Jill Wagner here with DJ Cole Plante and our guests Tyler Posey, Jeff Davis, and teen actress Joey king.
- Whoo.
Yeah! - What-what? Before we chat, uh, some more about tonight's episode, Joey, I wanted to catch up with you a bit.
You just starred in a Zach Braff movie called Wish I Was Here.
And you had to shave your head.
So what was that like? - It was very nerve - racking 'cause I had to, you know, do it myself and everything, so, um - Did you do it on camera? - I did.
- Wow.
- They had to get that, right? So, um, yeah, I was just really thinking, "don't mess up because you have one take to do this.
" Luckily you look super-cute with short hair.
- Ooh, thanks.
- Absolutely.
Uh, would you ever, I don't know, maybe want to come on Teen Wolf maybe - and do something? - I mean, I don't know.
That'd be really cool, Jeff.
- She's pitching.
- I don't know.
- Come on, Jeff, do it! - I'm not I'm not I'm not implying anything or anything.
I mean, I just think it'd be really fun.
Okay, we've talked about what we saw onscreen, but since we're focusing on what goes into making Teen Wolf, I wanted to ask a few questions about filming the show.
- So, Jeff - Sweet.
What is the biggest challenge in filming an episode? I would have to say time.
We do in seven days What some feature films try to do, basically, is create about 42, 43 minutes of movie-quality TV, and we never seem to get enough set-ups, we never seem to get enough takes, we never seem to have enough time.
- Right.
- Okay, Tyler, I've got a question for you.
Is there any room for spontaneity and improv on your behalf or Um, it's different with Scott's character.
There's almost no room for improv.
Dylan has the freedom 'cause, you know, his character kind of calls for it.
It's a little more funny.
He's good at it.
- It's looser.
- It's looser.
What's great about Tyler, though, is he'll text me with a question about a scene, and he'll often have the right idea to start with, so I'll just say, "yes, that's exactly it.
" But, uh, I really like when the actors collaborate.
Um, Linden and I will go over certain passages of dialog of his and tweak a few things, but with Scott, like Tyler was saying, his direction is so clear.
We very carefully map out his arc each season.
It's become more of an ensemble now, but it still all revolves around Scott's character.
His character has to be very specific, so his lines are written and rewritten and rewritten.
So how far in advance do you kind of plan out an episode? We plot out a season arc.
We look at it like it's one 12-episode movie essentially.
Uh, we know what our first act is, our second act, and our third act.
You don't want to have too many things written down, too much structure because then it sort of kills the creative process, but we know where certain things happen.
Okay.
Talking about the designs for the creatures how much input do you have on that, and who comes up with all of these ideas? I actually have a lot of input, uh, almost obsessively.
Your make-up, actually, was, uh, designed by me.
And the nogitsune I drew the nogitsune on the white board one day and said, "it has bandages and steel teeth.
" But we have an amazing team of effects and make-up guys Chris Gallaher and Erik Porn.
They take my initial idea, and they expand upon it, and they make it so much better.
It's phenomenal what they do.
Well, speaking of villains and bad guys, do you guys already know who the villain's gonna be? We often do have much of it planned out, but the difference this season was we knew we were going to have a lot of bounty hunters and professional assassins, so we were making those up along the way, um, which is a lot of fun to do, because you can basically brainstorm and come up with so many ideas.
We have several other assassins that we never used that we'll have to bring in later seasons.
So exciting.
All right, okay, okay.
Enough with the Q&A, because it's time for our Wolf Crush of the Week.
- Aw.
- All right.
And since tonight is all about the making of Teen Wolf, we're crushing on the man most responsible for making the show.
It's Jeff Davis.
Yay! Week in and week out, he brings us friendship, excitement, laughs, disturbing creatures, - and, of course, love.
- Love! So, Jeff, congrats on being our Wolf Crush of the Week.
- We love you.
- Thank you.
- We love you.
- Thank you.
We love you! Moving on.
It's time for a bonus scene from next week's episode.
Check it out.
Lori, stop! Brett.
Brett, what's happening? Close your eyes.
Run! Okay, we have to take another break, but coming up, we'll witness the chilling transformation of Kate into the werejaguar.
Ooh.
And we've got a preview of next week's episode presented by AT&T.
Cole, music, please.
Cole, music, please.
I'm Jill Wagner.
That guy over there is DJ Cole Plante.
Yes, it is.
And we been hanging out with Tyler Posey, Jeff Davis, and special guest Joey King.
And we've talked a lot about the making of Teen Wolf, but right now, I want to show you what makes Teen Wolf so special, so I invited the cameras to join me in the make-up room for an intense process of turning me into Kate the werejaguar, so take a look.
Let's do this.
Prepping the skin.
We'll apply a protective barrier to help preserve her skin.
Then from there, we apply the silicone make-up prosthetic, which gives her the features.
From there, it's a painting process.
We have our own custom colors.
Werejaguar two.
This is kind of a contouring trick that we do.
Some of the darks, and just kinda makes the yellow pop out of her skin.
Jill's make-up is the most intricate make-up we've done on Teen Wolf.
Jill's is a lot of paint and a lot of design work.
It's about a six-layer process to get it to the Jaguar.
Tickling me.
We use these pictures just to get the color exactly the same way every time.
That keeps our continuity.
What are they doing to me? Next part's integral.
If we don't dry it right and we don't seal it up, then when we go to put the stencil on for the spots, it can actually stick onto the piece - and pull the paint off.
- And that makes me very angry.
Ever so gently.
This is the original Photoshop design.
They make me look exactly like that.
Slap in your teeth.
This is the fun stuff right here.
Ta-da Yeah.
That process is, uh, a little bit grueling.
Tyler, you kind of have to go through the same thing.
The time that you have to sit in the chair, - is it less now than it was? - Yeah.
We've definitely, like, perfected it.
The first time I did it, it was more of a make-up test.
- Took, like, four hours - What? To do all the make-up.
But, you know, we were doing a Skype with Jeff, who was in Atlanta at the time, we were in L.
A.
, so we were going back and forth.
It was just a long process.
Now we've perfected it, and it looks great every single time.
Joey, have you ever had to go through - any major transformations? - Yeah.
When I was seven, I did a movie called Quarantine, and I had to have prosthetic gashes in my face.
I was infected with rabies.
They had to put blood in my mouth.
I had to bite it was so awesome and intense.
It's like you were on Teen Wolf.
Okay, guys, this is usually the time in Wolf Watch where we play a game, and even though we don't have time for one this week, I don't want anyone to leave here empty-handed.
That's exciting.
- I'm giving you - Oh, my God! A Wolf Watch prize pack to each one of you.
You're gonna get the Wolf Watch jersey.
It's so cool.
I love this.
Season two.
- Yes! - Wolf watch.
Beacon Hills.
- Yes! - There you go.
- I love it.
- You get it.
Wear it.
Enjoy it.
And you get these glasses, these really cool glasses, and they say "Wolf Watch.
" - What? - Nice! - There you go.
- Thank you.
- There's your glasses.
- Yo! And then My favorite the Wolf Watch winner mug.
- Hey.
Toss it.
- I'm not gonna toss it to you.
What if I hit you in the face? Jeff will kill me.
- There you go.
Pass it down.
- Pass it down.
Pass it down.
Okay, enjoy your gifts, people.
You didn't even have to work for it I gave it to you.
All right, despite all the evil creatures lurking around, I know a lot of fans would love to visit Beacon Hills, so we asked our Wolf Watch correspondent Tyler Posey to bring us along as he explores the ins and outs of the Teen Wolf production department.
Here we go.
And action.
Hello.
What's up, guys? This is one of my favorite places on the set of Teen Wolf.
This is Rusty Smith's the production designer's little office area, and these are all his storyboards, and basically what storyboards are he's drawn out the scene before we film it so that we have an idea of what the scene's gonna look like.
Oh, this one's cool.
This is actually a set that we built inside of our stage, and it's a lake house, and it's beautiful and seamless, and it was so romantic, too.
Look this way.
These are people who go and check out, like, the scout locations or ideas.
Like, cool sets that we can go film at.
Wow, this person's really good at darts.
Well, except for that one.
This stuff is nice.
These are actually the drawings that have come to life, only in miniature scale.
Here is Derek's loft.
This is where his bed is where he has sexy time.
Zoom in on that little miniature version of me.
He's so ferocious! Look at him.
There's Braeden.
I don't know why we're up there.
This is the Hale vault? Catacombs.
This is catacombs.
That's something that's an interesting fact.
Sometimes we use the same sets twice.
Like, the catacombs in this part turns into the Hale vault later on, and the lake house I was showing you earlier was the Yukimura house, but that's it.
Thanks for watching.
- Amazing! - After our last break, we'll chat with our Alpha of the Week, and you definitely don't want to miss the sneak peek of next week's episode.
Cole, let's hear it.
Welcome back to Wolf Watch.
- I'm here with DJ Cole Plante - Yes, you are.
- Tyler Posey, Jeff Davis - Yes.
- And actress Joey King.
- Yes.
Yes, yes.
Now we want to welcome our Alpha of the Week.
I love this part.
This time around, we're getting two - Two alphas.
- For the price of one.
- Oh! - Yes.
These girls are good friends who are such big fans that they actually started their own Teen Wolf convention.
- Yes, they did.
- And we have both of them on video chat.
Let's welcome Lizz and Adriana.
- Lizz! - Hi, guys! Adriana! Welcome to Wolf Watch.
Let me ask you first off.
Why are you guys such big fans of Teen Wolf? I really enjoy the characters and the way they interact with each other and the way they relate to each other.
Okay, so tell us about BiteCon.
Lizz and I have been going to a lot of fan conventions for a long time, and so we saw a need for it because, um, cons are always such a great place to meet other people like you.
And we figured we love this show so much, why not create a safe space for fans to come together and just celebrate the show that we love so much? Aw, very good.
Well, I hear that you sent us a few pictures - Yes! - So let's take a look at those.
- There I am! - There you are.
- That's me and Melissa.
- Look at that.
I can't imagine what you're saying right there.
I don't know.
I think I was auctioning off scripts or something.
There's the twins.
I miss the twins.
I don't know the twins - We all miss the twins.
- And I miss the twins.
I think we all miss the twins.
We love the twins.
Okay, well, you know I have some guests here with me tonight.
- Hello! - Would you care to ask them anything? If your character, like, could bring Allison back, do you think they would do it and, like, how? First of all, I think that Allison was probably the only person that Kate actually had a positive emotion for.
So I think that she would probably dig up her bones and take them back to her, um, lair, but I do think if she brought her back - that Allison would be evil.
- There we go.
All right, so any more questions? Okay, so if there was a flashback to your character prior to season one, uh, what is an event you would like to see? I love that question! I want to see oh, God - I want to see.
- I'll answer that.
- Can I answer that? - Yeah, absolutely you can.
I would like to see young Scott and young Stiles meet for the first time.
- That's what I was gonna say.
- Yeah.
We've always thought of Scott and Stiles - as just friends forever - Yeah.
So it's hard to think about the first moment they met.
Maybe they weren't friends in the first moment they met.
They weren't.
Stiles peed on Scott's sand castle.
All right, well, congrats again to Lizz and Adriana, our Alphas of the Week.
Thank you so much for stopping by the show, ladies.
Bye.
- Good to see you guys.
- We've spent some time today seeing what goes into the making of Teen Wolf.
Now let's see how all that hard work paid off in a preview of next week's episode.
Next on Teen Wolf It's not safe! - We're not safe anywhere.
- They're coming.
Anyone who thinks they can hunt and kill us for money is gonna be put on another list, our list.
They get to be a name on our deadpool.
- Whoo.
- Nice.
Nice.
All right, thanks to our guests tonight Tyler Posey, Jeff Davis, and Joey king.
Yes! And as always, thanks to DJ Cole Plante.
And, guys, switch over to the after-after show on MTV.
com and the MTV app right now where their guest is Meredith, Maya Eshet.
We love her.
And next week's Wolf Watch is all about the villains we love to hate With guest Ian Bohen.
- Of course there's Ian Bohen - Nasty! Maya Eshet, and Jillian Rose Reed from MTV's Awkward.
- Awkward! - Until then, I'm Jill Wagner reminding you to watch your back.
You never know what creatures are lurking out there in the dark.
- Cole, let's hear it.
- What?

- What?
