Two Sentence Horror Stories (2017) s02e10 Episode Script

Manifest Destiny

What's wrong? No.
Daddy, no! You're not marrying that savage! I love him, Daddy.
If you kill him, you'll have to kill me.
It's all right.
Well done.
It's the right choice.
And that's how the love of two people helped heal the conflict between the local Native American tribe and the people of Cain's End.
And there's two re-enactments, right.
The first, um, which you just saw, is the fight and the reconciliation.
The second is the marriage at night.
Cool.
I know not many people get to see the rehearsals.
A lot of us are big fans of the Nostalgists Podcast.
You expose people to such positive American history.
- Thank you.
- We need that.
Now more than ever.
That scene was total crap.
That's what I thought.
Okay, tell me.
It's all made up.
This isn't an Indian story.
It's a white story where they make up what Indians do and say in it.
I doubt there was a relationship, but even if there was, there's no way an Indian guy is going to fight that sheriff.
Jeremy, what you just said, would make this story so much deeper.
Okay.
What if you guest-hosted on this episode with me? I mean, sharing exactly what you just did.
Your, your, your experience, your perspective.
I mean, it's about your tribe after all, right? Not exactly my tribe.
I'm Cree, this is Blackfeet.
Oh.
Okay, yeah, but it's all Algonquin though, right? Please don't say Algonquin.
The difference is like the Danish and the Norwegians.
Okay, they're all Scandinavian, but they have different customs, language, etc.
Yeah.
See, this is exactly what I'm talking about.
You always say you want to tell stories.
And rather than just record it, this is the perfect opportunity.
I mean, it's got a personal hook, listeners.
They're going to love Um You ready for the rest of your tour? This is the preacher.
He helped the couple when no one else would.
Mm-hmm.
And this is Sheriff Stone's grave.
And where is the bride and groom? Well, the bride is right over here.
And the groom went back to live with his people and was buried in the traditional way.
Hey! I hope I'm not interrupting.
Hey man, I heard you're Cree.
We never had an actual Cree visit before.
Can I ask you some questions for my character? I'm Chad by the way.
Jeremy.
Pleasure's all mine, brother.
Woah, nice ink.
What's it say? Uh, it's uh, my spiritual name.
It's personal.
No offense.
It's true.
He won't tell me and we've been dating for almost a year.
Hey Chad Listen, I notice you don't have a lot of lines.
Oh, the groom didn't speak much.
He's very stoic.
You know, Natives and Native culture are so connected to nature and I've tried to respect that in my portrayal.
Yeah, we pay attention to detail.
In fact, all the costumes include at least one piece worn by the actual people.
That's right, Jeremy! You should try this headdress! Actually, the costumes belong to Cain's End, so that's not a good idea.
Yeah, no, I'm good.
Oh, my God, can you teach me some Cree fighting techniques? That would be huge for my fight scene.
What, like Tai Cree? - Oh, my gosh, is that real? - No, man.
Come on.
Back off.
- I thought we were practicing.
- Are you okay? I'm so sorry.
Honest mistake.
Okay, we should head back to the jailhouse.
We have to disinfect Claire? Ow, my ankle! Come on.
Let's go.
Traitor.
Traitor.
We should head to the jailhouse.
We have first aid there.
Where is everyone? They must be getting ready for the next scene.
Hey, Evie.
Evie? Evie! I guess she's fully committed to her character.
We have to tell Mike no dress rehearsal.
He's going to be bummed.
Wait, what if Jeremy and I played your parts for the dress rehearsal? - Wait wait wait, hold up.
I - It's just a wedding.
- How hard could it be? - That would be amazing.
Mike just needs some people there for blocking.
Thank you both, you're saving our asses.
Oh, don't thank us.
If there's no wedding, there's no story for us.
So it's the least we could do, right, Jeremy? Yeah.
Oh, costumes, Chad.
Can you grab them? Yeah.
Just be careful, these are originals.
No.
Mm-mm, no way.
This is gorgeous.
Babe, you are going to look amazing in this.
I want a picture so we can run it with a link on our website.
Uh Jeremy? Nothing but a savage.
Are you okay? Is it a seizure, or I don't know.
I've never seen him like this before.
Let's help him lay down.
Jeremy? What's, what's happening? - Are you okay? - Don't touch me! Hey, hey, Jeremy, Jeremy, hey.
Hey, hey, hey, are you okay? I don't know! All of a sudden I, I couldn't move, I couldn't control my my own body, okay? My own mind.
What was it, a panic attack, I mean No.
Okay.
Claire really needs to go to a hospital.
And so do I! Okay.
Okay.
When we came here, we had to hand our phones in for for authenticity.
Okay, where are they now? At the church.
I'll go with you.
No, no, no, no.
I'll go with Chad.
If you have another attack, I'd rather you be here.
Okay? Claire? Hmm? What really happened here at Cain's End? You and I both know that the re-enactment is a fantasy.
What's the real story? Um I wanted to believe it was a wedding.
It was something we could be proud of.
Instead it It was a massacre.
The sheriff was extremely strict and his daughter hated it.
Hello? Dale, are you in here? She was to marry a local man who she didn't know, who her father chose.
The phones are in here, somewhere.
The night before her wedding, he caught her sneaking back into her room late at night.
One thing led to another and she accused a local Indian of attacking her.
Supposedly the preacher tried to intervene, but she was Daddy's girl.
So the sheriff organized a posse.
Rounded up every Native person he could find, and anyone else who disagreed He massacred all of them.
Rosalie.
Somebody broke all the phones.
Kill them all.
Grab your stuff, we're out of here.
Wait, wait, wait.
What's going on? No time.
We have to go.
Come on.
Why? What's going Grab your bag.
Grab your bag.
Come on.
Come on.
Jeremy! Jeremy! They're re-enacting the real story! They're what? I think we're clear.
You hold onto Claire.
I'll take front and Rosie, can bring up the back.
Do you have a weapon I can use, just in case? A tomahawk.
It's real.
Come on, it's all I got.
Nothing but a savage.
Jeremy.
Nothing but a savage.
Kill, kill, kill.
Come on, come on! Nothing but a savage.
No, no! Nothing but a savage.
Get out of my head! Rosalie! You two go ahead.
Be careful! Be careful! Rosalie.
It's me.
It's something in those original costumes.
The sheriff takes you over when you put them on.
It's me.
We can't go through the entrance, but there's literally nothing here.
It's like the town won't let us leave.
The clothes.
They belong here.
Take off everything you have from Cain's End that's original.
What do you have? - I don't know.
- Well, leave your bag.
No way.
It has all of my work.
All of my notes.
Go, go! - Leave your bag! - No.
What do you have? This place doesn't have power over me anymore.
I don't know.
Come on! The veil, the veil.
That's it.
The veil! The journal of Sheriff Stone.
This is your, this is your handwriting in the margins.
Find them! "Sheriff's victims include members of Jeremy's tribe.
"Choose moment to reveal.
"Will break him open.
"Good episode climax.
" Okay, okay, let me explain.
You knew the whole story the whole time.
There's no way I could've known it all.
All of this was going to happen.
But I, but I did know that, that you and this place would make an incredible story.
But you still wouldn't do it.
It's like you're afraid.
Well, I'm not.
I'm a journalist.
We dig into the dark parts of history.
But you, I think you use them.
You use them to stop yourself from doing anything from yourself.
And I, I was just trying to help you get over that and realize your full potential to be more than just an Indian.
I Nobody can tell my story but me.
Nobody controls it, or my voice, or what I do with it but me.
Where are you, son of a bitch?! History's mostly made up of stories people tell themselves.
Fictions, like Sheriff Stone's.
Clearly like this one.
So it's all yours.
Sheriff! Come get your daughter! My little girl.
Daddy! Come on! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy, Daddy!
