The Orville (2017) s02e13 Episode Script
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
1 [GROUP LAUGHING.]
So, Kelly used to make Ed drink more than he wanted to - at parties, right? - Here we go again.
- This is so not true.
- GORDON: No, n-n-no.
- This is absolutely true.
What? - No, we both drank a lot.
- Yeah, but you always came in first.
- We both drank a lot, but you were "The Drinker.
" - This is a freaking lie.
- It's not.
The waiter would come by and say, "Do you want another round?" - Absolute lie.
- And I would say, "No I'm okay," "I've had enough.
" And she would go, "No, no, no.
- "He wants another one" - I never peer-pressured you "Get him another one.
" And yet, somehow, I was always the one who threw up.
Okay, wait, I want to hear the rest of this story.
Okay, okay, so let me finish.
So we're all at this reception at Admiral Halsey's house, and Philippa Jones is there.
- The novelist? - Yes, right.
So, Kelly just spent two hours pouring Scotch down Ed's throat - Okay, you're demoted.
- We're leaving, and Philippa walks up and says, "It was nice meeting you.
" and Ed goes, [SLURRING.]
: "Good night, Fallopia.
" - [LAUGHING.]
- He called her Fallopia.
Yeah, they heard you the first time.
[GROUP LAUGHING.]
All right, I'm gonna pack it in for the night, guys.
Me, too.
I have a security briefing at 0800.
- All right, we'll see you tomorrow.
- Okay, night, you guys.
- Night.
- Good night.
[KELLY CLEARS THROAT.]
You know, I miss those days.
What? Me getting you wasted? Yeah, all of it.
Our first date, actually, does not seem like that long ago.
Do you remember you called me at 9:00 a.
m.
the next morning? Was it that early? Oh, it was that early.
9:00 a.
m.
- You had zero game.
- [CHUCKLES.]
I almost bailed on you after that.
- Really? - Almost.
Well, I can see how a guy being excited to see you would be a major turn-off.
Hey, if I'd been five years younger, I probably wouldn't have answered, but I just had too much fun with you.
I know you know this, but us trying again is still not off the table for me.
Look those were fun times.
And we were really in love.
But I just I haven't changed my mind.
Ed, the Orville, i-it's like a whole other world for us.
And it just makes the past seem almost like a different lifetime.
Good lifetime.
A great lifetime.
But you know, this, this works right now, you know? We've become a good team and really great friends.
I mean, some ways, better friends than when we were married.
And, um I still don't think a captain and first officer together is a responsible command decision.
Isaac, this is unbelievable.
If even half of your research has legs, this is still the biggest breakthrough in decades.
Much of the work was done by Dr.
Aronov himself.
However, my superior intelligence has enabled me to amplify its potential for application.
Eventually, it could be used to link a temporal field to the neurological pathway of a biological or artificial organism.
And we could travel through time as easily as we travel through space.
It is theoretically possible.
Chief.
It's your favorite time of the month.
- [GROANS.]
Already? - Yep.
Uh, just for the record, the dysonium field condenser analysis is something a first-year cadet could do.
Why's it always got to be me? We all just sleep better at night knowing it gets your personal tender-loving care.
Well, just pop a sleeping pill.
I'll try that, too.
[SIREN WHOOPING.]
Grayson to bridge.
- What the hell was that? - Stand by, Kelly.
Lamarr, what just happened? Captain, we just passed through a massive gravitational wave.
- Cause? - Natural phenomenon.
Probably from a neutron star collision somewhere.
- Damage report? - No significant damage reported.
Bortus, run a shipwide diagnostic - and a structural analysis.
- Aye, sir.
I'm heading to the bridge.
Isaac, go to engineering and assist Lamarr.
- Yes, Commander.
- [DOOR WHOOSHES OPEN.]
[DOOR WHOOSHES SHUT.]
[WOMAN CLEARS THROAT.]
Where am I? Commander, your exterior ornamentation appears to have transformed.
How did you accomplish this with such rapidity? Who are you? How did I get here? I am Isaac.
You are on the Orville.
What the hell is going on? I-I-I was in my apartment, and That is incorrect.
You were here exactly 31 seconds ago.
Do you not remember? Discontinue program.
This is not a simulation.
Isaac to bridge.
I believe Commander Grayson is unwell.
Isaac, I'm right here.
I'm fine.
Inform Lieutenant Keyali we have an intruder in Science Lab 1.
[DEVICE TRILLING.]
What's the last thing you remember? I was in my apartment.
On Earth.
- I was drinking coffee.
- She appears healthy.
Although her stress hormone levels are still high and she's moderately hungover, but her DNA is an exact match with what we have on file for Commander Grayson.
Why do you keep calling me Commander? Could she be an alien life form of some kind? - Or a clone? - CLAIRE: No.
Her DNA contains the same specific degradations at the molecular level as our Kelly.
The only difference is, she's approximately seven years younger.
[DOOR WHOOSHES OPEN.]
[MOUTHS.]
Oh, my God.
What? Who are you? Commander.
I know this is gonna sound insane, but she's you.
That's impossible.
I'm me.
Doctor, what the hell is going on here? Ed? What are you doing here? CLAIRE: Commander.
She is you.
Seven years ago.
BOTH: Say that one more time.
Chief Lamarr and I have formulated a hypothesis.
The gravitational wave we encountered amplified the temporal field generated by Dr.
Aronov's device.
In this case, the spike in field energy may have been sufficient to transport Commander Grayson's past self into our present.
Can you reverse it? The short answer is, we don't know.
KELLY: Okay, I have a pretty basic question.
If she really is me from the past, why don't I remember all of this? And if it turns out we can't reverse it, why am I here at all? It is possible that when Lieutenant Grayson was extracted from the past, a new timeline was generated.
Or, perhaps, the original timeline fractured; we do not know.
Well, what about the rest of us? I mean, how come there's not a young Gordon or pubescent Bortus walking around? ISAAC: Commander Grayson was closest in proximity to the device at the time of the event.
Why seven years? JOHN: We have a theory about that, too.
Isaac may have been farther along in his research than he realized.
Commander, what exactly were you thinking about when the wave hit? Well last night, Ed and I were talking about our first date.
And I was thinking about that.
That was yesterday.
We went out yesterday.
So you're saying Kelly's thoughts did this? JOHN: I know it sounds crazy, but that's quantum physics.
Even on Kaylon, the relationship of a conscious observer to quantum-level events in time and space is not fully understood.
It was part of the subject of my research.
I need a drink.
Me, too.
I don't know how the food synthesizers are gonna replicate enough wine for two Kellys.
I got a B-plus in temporal theory.
I would have thought you, of all people, would've gotten an "A.
" Well, nobody gets an "A.
" It's time travel, nobody really understands it, but I do have one question.
What do we tell her about the past seven years? What do you think? Well, if we're dealing with a tangent timeline and we are able to send her back, then nothing she knows will matter.
But if it's a single timeline, then we should lock her in a room and keep her away from any information about the future.
How do we know which one it is? We don't.
And I'm not gonna confine her to quarters when she's done nothing wrong.
So, my philosophy is, when in doubt tell the truth.
You have to forgive me, this is just a whole lot to process.
- We got married? - BOTH: Yes.
- And then we got divorced.
- That's right.
And now we're serving together as captain and first officer on the same ship? That's correct.
I I mean if you'd asked me to predict the next seven years of my life, this-this would have been guess number 9,000.
Are you okay? Um yes.
No.
I I seriously have no idea what to think right now.
What, um I mean why did we get divorced? - That's a - Well, it's - multifaceted situation.
- a little complicated.
I was commuting to Epsilon Eridani for work every day.
- And I was on Earth.
- And I was working a lot.
- He had trouble with balance.
- A lot of trouble, actually.
- I felt very alone.
- And one night, after months of this - It was really bad.
- it was a - There was an infidelity.
- Hmm.
Wait who cheated on who? - Well, I wouldn't say -Uh, - that's kind of a - "cheated," exactly.
- textured thing, - it's not - Because we later found out - the Retepsian was in heat.
- Mm-hmm.
Okay, I'm very confused.
You know what? I have a better idea.
You're probably exhausted.
I remember being pretty hungover that morning.
So how about I give you access to my personal logs and you can get caught up? I mean, you are me, anyway.
Must all be pretty overwhelming, huh? I just I feel like my whole life has already happened and I didn't even have any say in it.
I feel like that sometimes, and I haven't even traveled through time.
Maybe it'd help to just block out what everyone tells you about you.
These are your quarters for the time being.
TALLA: I'm pretty new here, too.
So, if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm always around.
Thanks.
Hey, you know, I just had a thought.
If Young Kelly meeting Old Kelly has changed the timeline, would we even know about it? How about we say "Past" and "Present" Kelly? Perhaps the timeline has already been changed.
Yeah, I mean, it would just be like what we already know.
You guys will not get me into a discussion of time-travel logic.
I would rather chew broken glass.
Captain.
Lamarr.
Please tell us you have something.
We have been analyzing the scans of the gravitational wave and its effect on the Aronov device.
As the gravitational pulse was a natural phenomenon, there is an irreducible chaotic element.
It's too random to lock into.
If we had seen it coming, we could have targeted our scans, but as of right now, there's no way to duplicate it.
Which means there's no way to send Kelly back.
Isn't there anything at all they can do? I mean, we have a supposedly brilliant engineer and a Kaylon working on this.
I'm really stuck here? I wish we had better news.
I'm sorry.
What about my friends? M-My family? Most of them are still on Earth.
Oh, come on.
Those are your friends now.
Even Mom wouldn't understand.
This is this is your world, not mine.
I know it's really hard.
But you can take all the time you need to decide what you want your life here to be.
It seems clear by now, for whatever reason, the timeline is intact.
Nothing you do will affect the future.
Wow.
What a great thing to hear about yourself.
I didn't You know what I meant.
Look, you have lots of options.
You could go back to Earth, choose your own Union posting.
We would help you in any way we can, and I'm sure Admiral Halsey would do the same.
I just, um I need to think.
[DOOR CHIMES.]
Come in.
Hey.
Just figured I'd check up on you, see how you're doing.
A little better, I guess.
I just still can't process it.
I mean, who am I here? I have no place.
What am I supposed to do? I know it seems impossible, but you're gonna be fine.
How? Well what are your goals in life? To fall in love.
To be captain of my own ship.
To help make the galaxy a better place.
And you can still do every single one of those things.
None of who you are has changed.
What's the point when she's gonna do it all first? And if she fails, then I know there's no point in even trying.
Look, time travel is messed up, I know.
But as crazy as it seems, you are now two separate people.
And you have to start seeing it that way.
She has her life, and you have yours.
And yours can be anything you want it to be.
And, selfishly, I like that I have a new friend.
Now, as long as you're here, what do you say we get you a proper uniform, Lieutenant? [ALL LAUGHING.]
JOHN: I don't think so.
Man, this girl can really soak it up.
Oh, please, this is nothing.
At Union Point I used to drink all night and then report for duty the next morning.
- What? - This one time, I was still tipsy when we were breaking gravity on Rhealon IV.
[CHUCKLING.]
: I wasn't buckled in, and I went sliding down the corridor like a luge.
[LAUGHTER.]
It was actually really fun.
So the next day, I convinced all the other cadets to strip down and grease up.
And when the ship broke gravity, we all went through the main conduit like it was a Slip 'N Slide.
[LAUGHTER.]
Which would have been hilarious if I had not slid right into my commanding officer in my underwear.
[LAUGHING.]
: Oh, my God, what did you do? Let me tell you something, nobody cleans a toilet better than me.
[LAUGHTER.]
Lieutenant Grayson.
Can I have a word? Of course, Commander.
Lieutenant, there are certain things I'd really like to keep private on this ship.
Like that story.
Oh I'm sorry.
I didn't think it was that big of a deal.
It was funny.
I remember, and I understand that memory is as much yours as it is mine.
But the people you're telling are my crew.
They're under my command, and for things to work properly on this ship, they need to respect me.
I get it.
I was just trying to make friends here.
But you're right, I wasn't thinking.
I learned this over a long seven years.
When you become a leader, there's a distance you have to maintain.
You can't be everyone's friend.
Yeah, but I'm not a leader yet.
And, honestly, the idea of policing everything I do so it doesn't affect your command is well, kinda suffocating.
All the baggage without the rank.
I know, it sucks.
But here's the upside.
We each have the ultimate confidant.
Someone who knows all of our secrets, our hopes and fears.
We can tell each other anything.
Like a twin sister.
Why not? There is something I don't know, actually.
What's that? Is it really over with you and Ed? It is.
We've both moved on.
Oh.
So, have you thought at all about what you want to do? Well I love what I've seen of this ship so far.
And Talla's really cool, so is the rest of the crew.
So I was thinking what if I requested a posting on the Orville? Really? I mean, it's the closest thing I have to a home in this world.
At least for now.
I mean, it-it could be really great, right? Yeah.
I-I guess it could be.
So, what do you say, Commander? Call me Kelly.
You, too.
[GRUNTING.]
Oh, come on.
How are you doing that? Got to hit the left arrow, - hold the top button down.
- That's what I'm doing.
I'm literally doing what you just said.
Look, see? - You got to hold the top button down.
- Gordon, look at my hand.
I'm pressing the top button.
Yeah, but you're not tapping the left arrow.
Oh, my God, this is so stupid.
- [YELLS.]
- Wait, hang on.
- Wait, where's he? - [GRUNTS.]
- Wait, how am I supposed to? - You got to back him up.
- How do I back him up? - Press the top left button, hold the red arrow down, tap the "X" button.
Gordon, I don't have 20 fingers.
- This is - [DOOR CHIMES.]
Come in.
[ALIENS GRUNTING.]
- Hey.
- Hey.
GAME VOICE: Fatality.
Oh, my God, that's that's just great.
[MOUTHS.]
Is-is this a bad time? - No, uh, it's fine, actually.
- [TRIUMPHANT SHOUT.]
- What's up? - Well, I was wondering if I could talk to you.
Alone? Oh.
Ah.
It's all good.
I got to go.
Good game.
Yeah, good game.
So, what's going on? How you settling in? Not bad, considering.
Everyone's been really amazing.
I feel very looked after.
- Well, it's a good crew.
- Yeah.
Listen this is a weird situation, so I'm just gonna come right out and say it.
I had a really great time with you the other night.
The other night? Oh, yeah, yeah.
Your other night.
- Yeah, my other night.
- Yeah, yeah, right.
Which, for me, is still fresh in my mind.
So, I guess what I was wondering is, um [SIGHS.]
I would love a second date.
[DOOR WHOOSHES OPEN.]
Knock, knock.
Hey.
Listen, I have kind of a weird question.
What's up? Well, it's-it's really weird.
Like, um like, you might get riled up weird.
What is it? You remember when you were dating Cassius, and I supported you guys, and I was totally cool about it? Eventually, yes.
And you still feel that we should not get back together because our jobs make it too complicated.
Where are you going with this? How would you feel about me going on a second date? With her.
Look, I know it's out there, but she came to my quarters, and I didn't know what to say.
All I knew was that I didn't want to say no.
And you're equating this with Cassius.
Well, yeah, you found someone and so did I.
Yeah, it's a little different.
Think of it this way.
It's almost like it could be a second chance for us.
There is no "us" without me.
She's not me.
I know, but she was.
And truthfully, I'd really just like to date somebody who's not a Krill.
S-So you just want to start over? How many times have human beings wished that they could go back and fix the past? Well, this is a real-life opportunity.
My job consumed me when we were together, and I drove you right out of my life.
I have regretted that ever since.
I'm just saying, all I want is a chance to fix it.
But that's why I came here first.
All you have to say is that you want to try again with me, and I won't even consider this.
You know I can't.
Look, I have no right to tell you not to pursue this.
But just remember, seven years have passed for you, too.
You've changed, just like me.
And you may find it harder to get along with young me than you think.
Well, I'll be careful.
And thanks.
- [INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
- [MELLOW PIANO MUSIC PLAYING.]
So you're telling me Isaac turned against his own people - to save the Union? - Yeah.
No one knew what to do with him after that.
The admirals wanted to deactivate him, but Kelly and I talked 'em out of it.
"Kelly and I.
" God, I'm sorry, I keep doing that No, it's-it's okay.
I know this is just as trippy for you.
Yeah, well, I kind of doubt that, but I'm doing my best.
[CHUCKLES.]
So when'd you call me? - Hmm? - After our first date.
You obviously called me and asked me out again.
Oh, um yeah, I think it was, like, two, three days later? Something like that? - Really? Hmm.
- Yeah.
I don't know if I buy that.
- Why not? - I don't know, you just didn't seem like you had that much game.
If I had to guess, I would say it was, like, the next day.
- Well, that's - And probably before noon.
Okay, well, there's no advantage to me being in the future if I can't use it against you.
[BOTH CHUCKLE.]
Can I bring you two another round? - Oh, no, I'm fine.
I'm good.
- Oh, absolutely.
- I've had plenty.
- No.
We need, we need two more.
- I'm-I'm okay, I've had - Another round.
He-he - three of these.
I'm fine.
- He-he-he needs another one.
- I really don't, I'm fine.
- He has to have one.
The lady wins.
I'll bring you another round.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
Okay.
- Déjà vu.
- [CHUCKLES.]
[BOTH LAUGHING.]
This-this is your fault, - you realize that? - Oh, no, no, no, no, - I take no responsibility.
- This is all your fault.
- I-I have to maintain - No, I just ordered the drinks.
- a decorum in front of the crew.
- You drank them.
I can't - Four drinks is too many for me.
- This is all on you, buddy, man, this This we're here, by the way, - we're here.
Yeah.
- Oh, we're here? [BOTH LAUGH.]
- Um - Well I, uh I had a really great time, again.
So did I.
Again.
Which, in my case, is a little more of a loaded statement.
Everything you said after the third drink was a loaded statement, so Oh, wow, that was a dad joke.
- [LAUGHS.]
Oh - Y-You just made a dad joke.
- That's what wh-who are you? - You want to kiss your dad good night? [LAUGHING.]
: Wow.
This is, this is so not romantic at all.
You know it is.
Come here.
Come here.
Good night.
Good night.
- Captain.
- Lieutenant.
- [DOOR CHIMES.]
- Come in.
Hey.
Good morning.
Hi.
Listen I need to talk to you about something.
What's up? I'm having real reservations about this whole thing with you and Ed.
You are? I don't think it's a good idea.
Well I just figured since you aren't together anymore That's my point, actually.
You didn't experience it, but he was pretty devastated when it ended.
So was I.
And I just I know me at your age.
I don't want to see him get hurt.
I don't want to see you get hurt.
I know how this turns out.
Well, I don't plan to let it turn out that way.
- I didn't plan to, either.
- But you did.
Yeah.
That's what I'm warning you about.
With all due respect, Commander, I don't need warnings.
I'm not you.
I mean what I say.
And if this really is a new timeline, how do you know I haven't found my soul mate? Who are we kidding? You are me.
Just a younger, more naive me.
I mean, I know myself.
I used to say things like "find my soul mate.
" Well, guess what.
You don't find soul mates, you become soul mates by growing together.
And if you'd been through this marriage like I have, you'd be wise enough to know that.
So you're saying you have a better handle on our life than I do? Have you seen the hot mess you've made of it? You know what? Forget it.
- I have to get back to the bridge.
- Wait.
Just hang on and listen to me, - because I have something to say.
- If you want to make - a massive mistake, fine.
- And I know you don't want to hear it, - but you have to.
- What? You're not married.
You're not a captain.
You maintain a distance from your crew.
There were three things I wanted in life, and you haven't come close on one.
You've made my future a disappointment.
- Everything okay? - It's fine.
Okay.
[ALERT BEEPING.]
Captain, scans have picked up two Kaylon ships on what appears to be an intercept course.
- Have they seen us? - Unable to confirm.
Better safe than sorry.
Gordon, alter course and go to quantum.
Aye, sir.
The Kaylon are not pursuing.
That was close.
Maintain course until we're out of scanning range.
You know, Gordon, I got to tell you, I feel like I have a real chance at making things right.
- With Kelly? - Yeah.
I mean, it's like all of the excitement of the first time around, but with all the wrinkles ironed out, you know? Look, dude, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- I think it's a bad idea.
- What? Why? You forget, I saw everything.
I was there.
I saw what that divorce did to you, and I was the one that had to slowly scrape you off the floor month by month.
I don't want to have to do that again, for both of our sakes.
You won't, I promise.
This is gonna be different.
- Hey, guys.
- How's it going? - Hey.
- Hey.
So I had one of the engineers program the simulator with one of my favorite spots on Earth.
I don't even know if it still exists for real, but I thought we could go, anyway? Gordon, you and Bortus should come, too.
I already invited Talla.
Sounds great.
[LOUD DANCE MUSIC PLAYING.]
I don't know how much more of this I can take.
Dude, it's so loud.
- Come dance, you guys.
- Yeah, it's so fun out there.
I think we're just gonna stay here and finish our drinks.
- What? - We're just gonna finish our drinks.
- The bathroom's that way.
- No, no, I said What? We're just gonna stay here and blow our brains out.
- Okay, cool! - Okay.
Hey, is that Yaphit? That's nothing.
Look! This is glorious! The music is very similar to a popular mating song on Moclus.
You must come dance with us.
We're okay, but thanks! The restroom? It is that way.
Bortus, listen.
We must return to the dance! The night is ours! Is this what you want? Every mature person has to make peace with the fact that they used to be dumber, but to have it thrown in your face every single day man, it sucks.
You're handling it a lot better than I would.
Well, she's she has no clue.
You know, she looks at something like marriage and sees this emotional high all the way to the horizon, which it isn't.
You know, it, it changes and evolves.
It goes through phases.
I mean, there's times you feel like you d you don't love the other person anymore and you'll never love them again, and then one day you do.
You should've heard the way she talked to me.
The young always dismiss the old.
It's a way of pushing away the truth.
You just called me old.
[BOTH LAUGHING.]
You're not old.
[SIGHS.]
Is she right, though? Am I a disappointment to myself? She's-she's me, so it's hard to deny it.
Don't let her make you feel sorry for yourself.
You've done great things.
You're smart and powerful.
You're a kind and generous friend.
And to top it off, you're the commander of a Union ship.
I used to think I'd be a captain at this point in my life.
You got married.
Even that didn't work out.
You know, I thought I'd have a husband and kids by now, a-a real life.
Real is relative.
I dated an artificial life-form and thought I found my perfect match.
Goals change.
Things become more beautifully complicated, and so we have to stop every so often and reassess.
What is it you really want? What do you think? I replicated it to match one I have at home.
Wait a minute, that's right.
I remember that.
That's the one Kelly wore on our one-year anniversary.
For God's sake, I was, I was trying to surprise you.
Well, you know what, it's even better the second time around.
Good save there, Mercer.
Come here.
What'd you think of the club? Oh, my God, so fun.
- I know, right? - Yeah, yeah.
Talla made me give her a copy of the program.
It's such a cool place.
You should've danced with us.
You know, I would have.
My sciatica.
- Oh, right.
- So, yeah.
- Your sciatica, oh - Yeah, yeah.
Listen.
I really like you.
Well, I really like you, too.
Let's keep it simple, then.
Mm.
Um, wait, just What's the matter? I don't know, it's, um I don't know.
Well, let me help you figure it out.
It doesn't doesn't this feel just a little messed up? No, not to me.
Look, I'm not saying I don't want to.
Believe me.
It's just I've already felt all of this with someone else.
Oh.
Seven years ago, she was you, and I was completely in love with her.
And, yes, she has changed a lot over seven years, but so have I.
We've evolved together.
And I still love her.
But she's me.
BORTUS [OVER COMM.]
: Bridge to Captain.
The two Kaylon vessels have reentered scanner range.
They are on an intercept course and will arrive in 8.
2 minutes.
I'm on my way.
Sorry to pull everyone out of bed.
How far are they? Estimated time to intercept, seven minutes.
Captain, we can't outrun a Kaylon ship.
ED: We can try.
Isaac, divert all available power to the quantum drive.
ISAAC: Aye, sir.
Ice.
What? We're not far from the Vendek system, right? Approximately 3.
6 light-years.
Well, Vendek 2 has a covariant ring system, - if I remember correctly.
- That's right.
I did a report on covariant rings in grade school.
I researched that planet.
That's great how does it help us? Jovian rings are made of chunks of ice.
So we join the pack.
We slip inside the rings and jettison as much water as we can, which should create a film of ice around the hull.
Then we shut down all power until the Kaylon are gone.
Exactly.
With luck, we'll blend right in.
Gordon, set a course for Vendek 2.
Aye, sir.
[THUDS.]
Turn on the hose.
Aye, sir.
The Kaylon ships are closing.
Isaac, shut down all power.
[CLICKING, WHIRRING.]
They're moving away.
We'll stay powered down until 0600 hours.
[DOOR CHIMES.]
Come in.
- Hey.
- [DOOR WHOOSHES SHUT.]
Hey.
I owe you an apology.
That's a funny coincidence, 'cause I owe you a thank you.
So, maybe we just say they cancel each other out.
I was a real bitch.
Been there.
That bridge is a big place.
I really felt for the first time the gravity of what you do every single day.
You're kind of amazing.
Well, there's a lot of you in there.
- [DOOR CHIMES.]
- Come in.
Lamarr, what is it? A breakthrough, we think.
What do you mean? Well, I can't make any promises, but I think we've found a way to send Lieutenant Grayson back to her own time.
ISAAC: By reversing our quantum plasma polarity and inducing a laterally symmetric field in the ship's graviton emitters, we may be able to reproduce the effects of the gravitational phenomenon.
JOHN: Now, if we can focus the wave through the lens of the Aronov device, we can send you home.
Right back to the moment you left.
I know that look.
There's a downside.
It's gonna take a lot of gas.
We'd have to draw power straight from the quantum drive, like way more than we'd ever use at top speed.
That's gonna put a hell of a strain on the ship.
PAST KELLY: Wait a minute.
Even if it works, what about all of my knowledge of the future? Even if I keep my mouth shut, no one could resist the temptation to make changes based on that kind of foresight.
We could do a memory wipe.
Aren't those kind of risky? U-Uh, they are.
There's always the potential for brain damage, so you'd have to make that decision for yourself.
Why are you smiling? - Because we know it'll work.
- How? It already worked.
And you sent me back successfully.
That's why you don't remember any of this.
Isaac, John, do it.
I'm really gonna miss you guys.
ISAAC: That is incorrect, Lieutenant.
You will not remember these events.
BORTUS [OVER COMM.]
: Lieutenant Keyali, please report to the bridge for final systems check.
On my way.
PAST KELLY: Hey, Talla.
How about we meet for a drink seven years from tonight? What do you say? I'll see you in the mess hall at 8:00.
I'm glad I got to know you.
I feel like I know myself better.
So do I.
And I'll tell you this: I can't wait to be you.
JOHN [OVER COMM.]
: Lamarr to Captain.
We're ready to go down here.
Acknowledged.
Well, I guess I'll see you soon.
[SIGHS.]
I'm sorry.
It's okay.
I don't blame you.
She's something special.
That's not what I mean.
I'm sorry for what I'm about to do over the next five years of your life.
The absence, the neglect.
I wish I could undo it all.
Captain, I'm ready to begin.
We'll see you in the future.
ED: Mercer to bridge, we're on our way.
[DOOR WHOOSHES OPEN.]
[DOOR WHOOSHES SHUT.]
Mercer to Lamarr, initiate sequence.
Acknowledged.
Here we go.
Memory wipe is complete.
It's all you, Isaac.
You sure this'll work? Not at all, Doctor.
Quantum field is at maximum.
Engineering to bridge.
We're right up against the red line.
Isaac, what's your status? Graviton level is insufficient, Captain.
Lamarr, can you give Isaac any more? Not and guarantee field stability.
Do it.
Yaphit, divert power from the deflector grid to the quantum field.
[LOW RUMBLE.]
Output is still insufficient, sir.
Isaac, for God's sake, how much more do you need? A 15% power increase would be adequate.
The temporal field is stable.
Lamarr, can you give us another 15%? - Is he nuts? - Captain, that'd be a bad idea.
JOHN: We're way past safety margins.
Fire it up for ten seconds.
If Isaac can't do it by then, - shut it down.
- Aye, sir.
[HIGH-PITCHED WHIRRING.]
All departments reporting overloads.
Hull integrity is weakening.
Ed.
Shut it down.
[COMM CHIMING.]
Hey.
Hi.
I hope I'm not calling too early.
Did I wake you up? No, no, I-I was, um You okay? Yeah.
I What's up? Well, um, I know this goes completely against the cool guy playbook, but I had a really great time with you last night.
And I was wondering if I could take you out again.
I just, um I just don't see us working out.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
