I know who killed your brother.
I've been waiting for over a
year for a break in this case.
- You can't be involved.
- When we are literally this close,
- you want me to just stop?
- Yes.
[MAX] You just got out of prison!
Sweet, sweet freedom.
There's some videos
you're gonna wanna see.
Well
- Here we are.
- Well, hello, old friend.
Cheer up, Max. As my campaign
says, better days ahead.
His mom sent him away
after Daniel was murdered.
- I need to talk to him.
- He's in college, out east.
Okay. Ricky will get you a
flight, and we'll figure out
what's really going on inside that club.
Seleena LaFleur.
I do need a singer.
- [GUNSHOT]
- [MAN GROANS]
I'm the reason your brother is dead.
Daniel's dead because of me.
[ELLIS SIGHS]
Look, just start from the beginning.
Tell me what happened that night.
Uh Daniel and I went to my mom's club
to get a textbook, uh, she bought me.
She forgot it there.
- There it is.
- Daniel was tutoring me.
[MAN] Right over here.
[SAMSON WHISPERS] Hide, hide, hide!
- Why?
- Just hide!
[MAN] That's good. Right there.
- We can talk.
- I recognized that voice.
- It was a guy named Locke.
- Roman Locke?
- You know him?
- The police are very aware of him, yes.
My mom always said he was bad news.
It's probably why I
wasn't allowed in the club.
She didn't want me anywhere near him.
- What was he doing there?
- I don't know.
The club was closed.
Must've been some kind of
secret meeting or something.
Secret meeting with who? Who was there?
I don't know.
From where we were
hiding, uh, in the back,
it was too hard to see.
[ROMAN] I got a guy, he's
gonna take some pictures.
He's gonna make it look real.
Pictures of who? The other
person that was there?
No, they mentioned something
about someone's career
getting ruined, and how it
was gonna help them both.
Help them how? What do you mean?
I don't know. I I don't know.
Okay.
What happened next?
[OBJECTS CLATTER]
Check it out.
[SAMSON] What are we gonna do?
[DANIEL] Stay quiet and don't move.
Who the hell are you?
Sorry.
- I didn't know anybody else was here.
- Answer the question.
I'm Dan, new busboy.
I just came early to take out the trash.
That can wait.
Now get lost.
Sure, man.
No problem.
All clear, boss.
That busboy saw us together,
we can't take any chances.
Find out who it is.
Then call Zippo and
have him taken care of.
Next day
Daniel was murdered.
- Did you tell anyone?
- Just my mom.
And she said not to say anything.
All right, Samson, last thing.
That night at the club.
This other person that was there.
Did you get a look at them?
No.
Look, Samson.
I need you to hear this, okay?
None of this makes you responsible
for Daniel's death. All right?
I made the noise, and he covered for me.
It's my fault.
Hey.
I'm so, so sorry.
It's okay. Hey.
It's okay.
[MAX] What'd he say?
[ELLIS] Samson was there.
He heard everything.
Roman Locke sent the hit on Daniel.
He's the reason my brother's dead.
- We need to find him.
- Well, not a problem.
- I'm looking at him right now.
- What?
Max, stay away from him. He's dangerous.
All right? Samson just agreed to
testify, and I'm bringing him home.
We're gonna end this now.
- Okay, just get home fast, Ellis.
- All right.
You're a damn cop, and you're gonna die.
- I'm sorry, what?
- I just got off the phone with my son
who said that I sent him a text
telling him to talk to a cop.
But I didn't send it.
If Locke finds out that you're a cop,
- he is going to kill you.
- First of all, I'm not even a cop.
Who the hell is my son talking to?
The detective's name is Ellis.
He's Daniel's brother.
And he's been trying
to solve Daniel's murder
- for the past two years.
- Daniel saved Samson's life.
- Well, with Samson's testimony
- No!
There is no way that
my son will testify.
Why not?
Look, I am so sorry that Daniel died,
but nothing is gonna bring him back.
My son is still alive,
and I'd like to keep him that way.
I know Ellis.
You can trust him.
He can help keep you and Samson safe.
Your partner, he can't keep us safe.
- No one can.
- The police can.
No, they can't.
Locke is, is protected.
By who?
By someone inside the police department.

Is
is he dead?
Shot twice, execution style.
Somebody was afraid he was gonna talk.
- I didn't see the shooter. Did you?
- No.
All right. Wipe down
everything you touched
- and let's get outta here.
- Okay.
Here.
[AIRPLANE LANDING]
[ELLIS] Anything?
I checked all the CCTV cameras
from Tyson's neighborhood.
I can't find the shooter anywhere.
[ELLIS SIGHS] Damn it.
Elena from the club said
that when Tyson stopped by,
he asked for Locke. She didn't
hear the whole conversation
except that they talked
about how you were
sniffing around Daniel's murder.
That's why Locke had Tyson killed.
To tie up that loose end.
All right, I just talked to
one of my pals on the inside.
He confirmed what Elena said.
Locke's got some serious
protection from someone
- inside the department.
- Any names?
No. But it does explain
how he's made such a mark
- for himself in such a short time.
- This is true.
I hacked into the police database,
- and when I was digging
- Ricky.
I told you to stop doing that.
Then tell your IT department to
stop using encryption algorithms
from before Justin
Bieber started shaving.
Anyway, look at this.
I sifted through case files and reports
that had anything to do with Locke.
And there's a clear pattern here.
Locke was being investigated
for drugs, money laundering,
organized crime, and
was said to be connected
- to four unsolved murders.
- Yeah.
Then two years ago, something changed.
It looks like as his crime network grew,
arrests in his organization dropped off.
Yeah, just a couple
of small-time busts.
And all the raids turned up nothing.
He was getting tipped off.
Just like when we had that
first big lead on Zippo.
Remember that? And then,
boom, he just bolts,
minutes before Simmons got there.
We need to get Samson
back into town ASAP
- and get him to testify.
- No. Absolutely not.
What do you mean? That kid's testimony
- is gonna put Locke away.
- I don't care.
First, Locke has my brother
killed, and now Tyson?
I'm not risking that boy's life too.
Two years.
Two years of coming up with nothing
and now I finally have a witness
and I can't even use him!
Damn it!
Hey.
We understand.
Let me go back to the club
and see what I can dig up.
This isn't over.
But you gotta stay here, okay?
Promise?
Okay.
[JAZZY PIANO MUSIC]
- What are you doing back here?
- I got a set at 9:30.
I don't walk out on a gig.
I warn you
if you say or do anything to put me
or my son in danger
I'm just here to sing my
little heart out, okay?
When you find your replacement,
I'll be out of your hair.
You've got to be kidding me.
What part of stay away
don't you understand?
I can't just sit
around and wait anymore.
It's been two years.
Can't you give us a few more days?
Look, I know Locke
had my brother killed.
I need to put pressure on him right now.
- Get him to make a move.
- Okay, so you do have a death wish.
You still don't get it, do you?

He could've just set a
camera up and pressed record,
but instead he moved
it every time. Look.
Ah, he wanted us to see
every inch of the space.
Mm-hmm. So, while I set up this room,
Max was figuring out how
to decipher the clues.
The first penny dropped when I
sprained my ankle and I couldn't walk.
I had a lot of time to
watch Ashford's videos.
[JONATHAN] I suppose I've always admired
the indifference of time
to the weight of memory.
No matter what.
It just keeps on ticking.
Wait, did I see what I think I just saw?
Watch it again.
The watch moves.
The desk, it's magnetized.
Ashford let us see that on purpose.
That's how we knew it had
to be a key to the puzzle.
Most things in this room are replicas.
But I knew we had to
have the actual desk.
It wasn't easy, but I managed
to get it shipped here.
This is his real desk?
Yep. Show him, Ricky.
This watch
has multiple facets.
Which means the etchings
on the glass refract light
in very particular directions.
But it depends on where the
light source is coming from.
The magnet in the desk
locks the watch into place.
But if we don't know the correct
angle of the light source,
we won't get the right answer.
So, how do we figure that out?
He told us that too.
Time has always been a
critical part of my life,
and profession, of course.
Timing security guards
making the rounds.
A countdown to an alarm trigger.
The position of the sun as
it beams through a window.
So, the light source is a sunbeam
- through that window?
- Exactly.
But the sun's position
is different depending on
the hour of day, your location on Earth,
and the time of year.
So, how did you figure all that out?
And that little voice inside of you,
that thing we call instinct,
is trying to guide you with confidence.
See where he touched the globe?
I zoomed in and voila!
So, we know Bermuda.
Next we just needed
to figure out the day.
Maybe because I'm getting older, or
maybe because today is Father's Day.
Father's Day.
The third Sunday of every June.
Now what about the time?
So, everywhere in his office,
you see a bunch of clocks.
But if you look closely,
each clock is set to 2:36,
and it never changes.
So if it's 2:36 PM on
Father's Day in Bermuda
the sun is shining through that window.
Exactly
like so.
[GEORGE] Wow.
Aww, you guys are geniuses.
Okay, so each shaft of light corresponds
with an hour on the clock face.
If you look around,
each one falls on a particular object.
We believe those
objects are the passwords
we need to access the bank account.
Now, this is as far as we got.
Everything's new from here on in.
All right. Let's give it a shot, guys.
Okay, so 1:00 would be there.
It's an hourglass.
[BLOWS RASPBERRY]
Hourglass.
[RICKY WHISPERING] S S
- [DING]
- Yes!
It worked!
You guys are geniuses.
[BUZZER]
That didn't sound good.
What'd you do, Ricky?
I didn't do anything.
It's a countdown timer.
- Another challenge.
- What's next, snakes?
- Okay, we gotta move quickly.
- Don't forget,
- we only have three strikes or we're out.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stop wasting time!
- Let's go!
- Okay, okay, okay. 2:00.
That's a fox. Yeah.
[RICKY]
F-O-X.
- [DING]
- Yes! Yes, yes, yes.
[MARC MEOWS]
She'll be here.
3:00. Conch.
- Conk.
- It doesn't matter.
A seashell.
Seashell it is.
- [BUZZER]
- Damn it!
We only have two more mistakes.
It must be conch.
No, no, wait.
Ashford wasn't a superstitious man,
but there was one lucky charm
he carried with him everywhere.
It was a shell he picked up in Fiji.
He was on a boat, it
capsized, he nearly drowned.
He came to on the beach, nearly dead,
with a seashell in his hand.
He never found out how
that seashell got there.
But he always thanked
Fiji for saving his life.
This is a fail safe. He's testing me.
The answer is Fiji.
[DING]
4:00.
Hat?
No. Fedora.
Ashford loved a good fedora.
- [DING]
- Yes! Okay.
5:00. Vase. [PRONOUNCED VAHZ]
- Vase.
- It doesn't matter. Who cares?
- [DING]
- Yes! Yes.
Okay. Um 6:00.
Book.
- [BUZZER]
- Damn it!
If we get this wrong,
we lose everything.
But if it's not book, what is it?
- I got it.
- Our revels now are ended.
These are actors, as I foretold you,
were all spirits
and are now melted into thin air.
Ashford quoted Shakespeare's The Tempest
in one of his videos.
That was his favorite play.
It's gotta be Tempest.
- It's gotta be!
- Uh
- [DING]
- Yes, yes, yes.
Okay. 7:00. Camera.
[DING]
8:00. Telescope.
[DING]
Okay. Uh 9:00. Window.
[DING]
10:00 uh clock.
- [DING]
- 11:00. Globe?
No, no, wait!
Ashford never missed his nightly Scotch.
- Try Scotch.
- Are you sure?
Yes?
[DING]
- Yes!
- [MAX LAUGHS]
Yes.
Okay.
Last one.
There's no more beams of light.
Okay. Well, what could the password be?
Okay, guys, there's
only 90 seconds left.
Uh
[MARC MEOWS]
Okay, Dad. Think! You knew
him better than anybody.
Um
Ashford always said that every
con came down to one thing.
Unraveling what's most
important to your mark.
What's most important?
What's the last word?
What's the last word?
And you know, I do love
to have the last word.
I know what it is.
Dad.
It's you.
After all these years, he
came back here just for you.
He loved you, and he
wanted you to know that.
All of this is about
you. Even the last word.
I'm so proud of you
and the man you have become.
Take care, George.
Ricky, try George.
- [DING]
- [CHUCKLES]
Uh
Uh guys.
It's, uh it's $103 million.
It's $103 million!
[ALL LAUGHING]
[OVERLAPPING YELLING]
How did we do that? Come on!
Honey, what's wrong?
Why aren't you happy?
Of course I am.
So why don't you look happy?
[SIGHS] I need to let you go.
- What do you mean?
- Go. Honey, go to him.
I'll be fine.
- I love you, Dad.
- Yeah. I love you too, sweetheart.
Just wish your mom was
still alive to see this.
Me too.
Was I crazy to think she was gonna show?
Mom?
