All American (2018) s02e16 Episode Script
Decisions
1
What if I told you this
will all be all right?
All the pain that
you gone through is
Just a small part of life
Lookin' out from the inside
It might seem like there's no hope
But you'll never find peace
If you start letting go
COACH WILSON: What a game!
I'll let coach Kelly know
that Spencer James is back.
BILLY: I thought that was you.
How come you ain't celebrating with the rest of the team? I'll celebrate with them at the end of the year gala.
OK.
Right now I just wanted Wanted the peace and quiet.
Yeah.
17-35, loss, University of Miami.
The grass was still wet from when it rained that morning.
That was the first game after my mom's passing.
I remember every detail like it was yesterday just like I remember my first date after she passed, my first Thanksgiving, my first time back home again.
Welcome to a year of firsts, son.
Does it, um Does it get easier? Yeah, it will.
TREY: Looks like I made the right call okay-ing you to play, Spencer.
Congrats on the jamboree win.
Uh, thank you, Mr.
Hart.
Billy, let's talk.
What's going on, Coach? TREY: Part of the investigation will include You mean witch hunt, right? I mean, 'cause that's what it is.
As Athletic Director, it's my job to look into things that put our program at risk.
You lied about Asher Adams using steroids.
Now, understandably, the boosters, the administration are concerned about what else you've done over your time here.
- [CHUCKLING.]
- Oh, that's funny to you.
Last semester, I suspend Asher because he was drunk at homecoming, and y'all wanted to damn near burn me at the stake.
This time, I'm trying to cut the kid a break, and you and your mob boosters are coming for my job? Those two incidents are not comparable, Billy.
Now, why don't you just admit it? This has nothing to do with Asher and everything to do with the fact that your boosters can't control the way I run my team.
Moving on.
The investigation will also include talking to your assistant coaches as well as your players.
So if there are any other skeletons in your closet, speak now.
Nice.
Last one.
All right.
I've got good news and bad news.
Whatever it is, just tell me, please.
Well, I'll start with the bad.
Looks like this will be the end of our time together.
Your shoulder's completely healed.
You're back to your old self, Spencer James.
If there was any residual nerve damage, we'd know by now.
Especially given the intensity of the jamboree games, you'd have neck pain, aggressive muscle weakness, full numbness in your hand, none of which you have, although I would've sworn I'd get a slightly more excited response.
I'm sorry.
I am excited.
It's just it's It's my year of firsts.
[MUSIC PLAYING.]
OK, and the following Tuesday? OK.
Uh, just please let me know if something opens up.
Thanks.
- Hey.
- Hey.
Any luck booking venues for Coop's tour this summer? Most of the slots are already filled.
Did you tell 'em who you are? No.
I don't want to get this 'cause I'm J.
P.
Keating's daughter.
I need to do this on my own.
Well, I can respect that.
Mmm! Sausage pancakes with a side of bacon? Oh.
I already got us the egg white scramble with extra avocado.
Sounds extra boring.
I know you're gonna eat crap on tour.
I'm just trying to squeeze in some healthy food before you go.
Hey.
I'm going to miss you, but Coop's tour should keep you busy while I'm gone.
Yeah.
Everything's going back to normal.
Normal's good? Normal's great.
OLIVIA: OK Impromptu family meetings never really go well for us.
So just rip the band-aid off, dad.
BILLY: OK.
I'm moving out.
OLIVIA: Wait.
You're leaving us again? This is nothing like last time.
I leased a nice condo that's just a couple of miles away.
So I'm gonna be around.
I'm gonna be around a lot.
JORDAN: Is this because of the investigation at school? Are you leaving to protect us from something that's coming? No, no, no, no.
The truth is, your mother and I, we have been separated for a while now.
And moving forward is what's best for the family, right, Laura? Right, yeah.
BILLY: Right.
So Yeah.
OK.
OK.
Thank you.
Uh, I call dibs on the bigger room.
Mm-mm.
Nope.
In your dreams.
- OLIVIA: What? - JORDAN: Get out of here.
- Love you, dad.
- I love you, too, man.
- OLIVIA: Love you, dad.
- BILLY: Love you, Olivia.
All my life, I read between the lines Pops, what did you do to piss off these birds? I literally cleaned this, like, two days ago.
Damn.
Hey.
We won the jamboree yesterday.
I'm not gonna lie.
It felt good to win again.
Ain't been a whole lot of that going on.
Darnell and Dillon are still whupping my ass at Friday night taboo.
I mean, me and moms know they're cheating.
We just ain't figured out their tricks yet, you know? I got some good news.
My shoulder is finally healed.
No more P.
T.
for me.
Your boy Spencer James is back.
DARNELL: You know what they say about folks who talk about themselves in third person? Yeah.
They say we destined for greatness.
Yeah.
OK, whatever.
Bro.
Looks like we had the same idea.
I won't interrupt.
I'll wait my turn.
You good, man? Yeah.
Just trying to get as much time in with Corey as I can.
You going somewhere? You ain't heard? South Crenshaw is being converted into a magnet school with less focus on athletics.
- Wait.
What? - Yeah.
Me and everybody else are gonna have to enter some lottery system to even have a shot at enrolling.
South Crenshaw means everything to this neighborhood.
Why they doing this? I mean, with all the football drama this year and losing two head coaches, it created an opportunity for some folks who wanted a magnet conversion to finally push it through.
They officially voting on it next week.
Supposedly it's a lock.
So you're telling me my old school, Coop's school, the school where my pops built his legacy You telling me that's going away? PATIENCE: Taking away our school is some bull, and everybody knows it.
KIA: How are a bunch of suits gonna decide what's best for the community without checking with the community? We got to rally everyone students, teachers.
We got to show the district we unified.
Or maybe we do a fund raiser.
Ain't lack of resources part of the excuse for converting it to a magnet? I'm loving this black excellence, but y'all can't move mountains on an empty stomach.
Yes.
Thank you.
CHRIS: OK, but I'm still hella confused, though.
Like, why does the school board suddenly think a magnet school is the answer to all of Crenshaw's problems? - I mean, what happened? - Superintendent Carter happened.
Apparently, he's working on a rehaul of the school district.
Thinks converting the school is the key to bringing new money into Crenshaw.
We got to change Carter's mind.
Or at least the other voting members of the board.
Well, how? SPENCER: By drawing attention to the conversion.
I mean, there's pressure in numbers, right? What about a walk out? Or a sit-in.
OK, I heard the superintendent was planning a visit after school tomorrow with some board members.
He wants to show them his big plan.
Hey, that's lit.
We gonna go Rosa Parks on these fools.
[LAUGHTER.]
Uh, don't you have your final English presentation tomorrow? Yeah, but I need to be here.
What you need to do is get going to Beverly Hills so you don't miss the last bus.
- Chris? - Ooh! It look good, ready to eat Hey, y'all, I got to I got to roll out.
Oh, no, it's all good, man.
We got this covered.
Look, we should have people speak up at the sit-in tomorrow, talk about what the school means to them, and post it on the gram.
KIA: OK, I see you.
There's actually some brains behind those good looks.
PATIENCE: Oh, my gosh.
She said he has brains.
[LAUGHTER.]
Man, I got this new track I'mma drop this summer on tour called "fly the Coop.
" It is fire.
Don't you still got work to do to get ready? What you doing here? I'm visiting my ungrateful friend, like I do every day.
You need to move on, Coop.
Your life ain't here discussing my cafeteria options.
Man, whatever.
I was right about that meat loaf, though, huh? Yo, do not trust anything made of mystery meat.
You think I'm playing? Try to visit me here again and see what happens.
Go live your life, Coop.
It's your time to shine.
Uh, Ms.
Bryant's final? OK, look, Simone, if you're here to yell Jordan, no yelling.
I just wanted to say thank you, actually, for talking to my mom.
Ohh.
And whatever Jordan Baker magic you used on her, it actually worked.
I'm back home, and things are they're kind of good.
Wow.
That's great, Simone.
That's really great.
Does that mean you've changed your mind about the baby or? I think adoption is still best, so Anyway I know everything that happened with me, it kind of took your attention away from football, and I put together this special highlight reel of your career, to remind you of how good you are.
[CHUCKLES.]
Thank you, Simone.
Um No one No one's ever done anything like this for me before.
You're welcome.
Have an amazing summer, Jordan Baker.
Hi.
You've reached Leslie.
I'm not around right now, but leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thank you.
Ahem.
Hey, Leslie, um, been a while.
I was, um, I was hoping to catch up or something.
Um, yeah.
Hit me back, OK? - Hey.
- Hi.
Ash, I know I said that we should take a break, and that makes things really weird now, but, um, but we were best friends first, and I - I miss you.
- I miss you, too.
We'll figure this out.
I mean, we have all summer to sort through the mess we made.
Actually, my mom invited me to spend the summer with her on Jacob's yacht.
You know, just the two of us, mini world tour.
She wants to get back the time we lost.
Wow.
That's That's amazing.
Yeah.
Um, well, I should I should get to class, so Yeah.
SPENCER: Damn.
Yo, these are dope, Layla.
COOP: I know, right? Which one your pop like? I haven't shown him yet.
He's been so busy with the big tour, I didn't want to get in his way.
I thought you was cool with him leaving.
I am.
I He's already spent enough time at home dealing with me.
And his work is important to him, and his clients need him, and I need to let him get back to them.
- Hey, guys, what's up? - Hey, what's up, Patience? You ready? We got two hours.
In L.
A.
traffic? No.
Darnell and Kia will kill us if we're late.
You're not going to the sit-in? I can't.
I got to work.
I couldn't find nobody to cover my shift.
Be glad, bro.
That way, you ain't got to deal with commander Kia and lieutenant Darnell.
OK? They are taking this leading the charge thing very serious.
Hey, you all do your thing tonight.
I should get going, too.
I got to help my dad pack.
Pack for what? What do you mean? The tour.
He didn't tell you? He backed out.
One of his execs is covering for him.
Your dad is staying home for the summer.
Spencer, what are you doing here? And "what's up" to you, too.
Baby, shouldn't you be getting ready for your team's gala? I forgot my dress shoes.
What's really going on? Nothing.
Nothing.
I just wanted to come home.
I wanted to see you and Dillon.
Why is that a problem? It's not a problem.
We miss you, too.
- You sure? - Ha ha! What's that? Supplies for the rally at Slauson Cafe tonight.
What rally? Darnell and Kia and Coop planned it to save Crenshaw.
The sit-in last night was kind of a bust.
Yeah, superintendent Carter found out about it somehow, had the cops already at the school waiting.
But like Darnell said, Carter can't stop them from rallying the community elsewhere.
Slauson Cafe it is.
Uh! So why didn't nobody tell me? Honey, it came together all very last minute, and you have your gala tonight.
Darnell and the other kids got it handled.
So don't nobody need me.
Spencer, nobody said that.
You all got this big fight for South Crenshaw, and meanwhile, I'm just supposed to go play dress up with my rich friends instead? It doesn't always have to be you on the front line, Spencer.
And your gala is important.
It's the culmination of an unbelievable year for you and the Eagles.
Look at everything you overcame last year on that field, Spencer.
That deserves to be celebrated.
You deserve to be celebrated, OK? HAROLD: Packing's a little premature, isn't it? We both know this investigation isn't gonna go my way.
You're right.
It wasn't gonna go your way.
What do you mean, "wasn't"? From the boosters, letters of support for ending the investigation and you staying on as Head Coach.
The investigation is effectively over.
How did you manage to I owed you for standing up for my boy.
Consider us even for now.
Oh, OK.
I see how this goes.
So, then, what do the boosters want from me in return for this, uh, this favor? They have some thoughts for next season.
They'll be in touch.
[FOOTSTEPS.]
Why they got to make the holes so small and the cufflinks so big? Look, I need help from a pro.
Please.
Come on.
[HEAVY SIGH.]
Helping others is overrated.
I ain't seen you at none of our midnight hangs lately.
Hope that means you're sleeping better.
Not really.
Just been drawing in my room, trying to clear my mind instead.
Hey, I can't blame you.
Them real housewives are getting real crazy.
Ain't nothing scarier than a rich white woman planning a 3-year-old's birthday party.
[CHUCKLES.]
Seriously, though, you doing OK? Just a lot going on right now.
Yeah, and your pops moving out don't help.
Yeah.
Well, plus, Asher's going away with his mom for the summer.
My mom's got an important new job.
It just feels like everyone's moving on.
You reach out to your sponsor lately? - Yes.
- Liv.
I'm good, Spencer.
I promise.
- OK.
- OK.
[MUSIC PLAYING.]
JORDAN: Well, I never thought I'd be this into a drink called cuddles on the beach, but, hey, here we are.
Mmm.
Yo, for real, this party's insane.
JORDAN: And all paid for with left-over money from the football program.
That's the crazier part.
- Are you serious? - Mm-hmm.
My friends and family are just 10 miles away fighting to keep their school open.
Meanwhile, we literally watch money melt off ice sculptures? [EXHALES.]
Yeah Is that a cuddles on the beach? Maybe.
How about we make it a little bit more than a cuddle? Oh.
Um, not tonight.
Thank you, though.
Hi.
- Your fan club's back.
- Mm-mm.
No.
Not my type.
Simone's got you wide open like that.
Whatever.
OK, Simone's not interested anyway.
Uh, you mean the Simone who spent all that time creating that dope-ass highlight reel, the one who moved herself out to a hotel just so you could have your life back? Yeah, you right.
She not feeling you.
Good luck, man.
4, 3, 2, 1 [MUSIC PLAYING.]
TREY: I mean, I took it easy on him, of course, right? I shot a couple over par.
I mean, it's Tom Brady, OK? I couldn't make him look bad.
A little underdressed, don't you think? Yeah, it's all good.
I won't be here long.
I finally realized, it ain't gonna matter how many championships I lead us to.
I am constantly gonna keep trying to prove my worth to you and the boosters, and I ain't about that life.
I know my worth.
I know I'll never be the puppet that y'all want me to be.
And if I stay on, I'll eventually stop being the man I know myself to be.
The ones who'll suffer the most are my boys on the team, and I ain't gonna let that happen.
So thanks, but, no, thanks.
What the hell are you doing, Billy? I am officially resigning as Head Coach of the Beverly Eagles.
[CROWD MURMURING.]
Effective immediately.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Billy.
And the audacity, after we were willing to give him another chance.
He lacks worth ethic, OK? That was always Billy's problem.
Ever since I've known him, he's done this.
How dare you.
Ah D.
A.
Baker.
Um You know what? Stop talking, OK? Billy put his heart and soul into this football program and never asked for anything in return.
You want to talk about character? Beverly will never find another Head Coach that cares about his players as much as Billy does.
Trust me, you're gonna regret losing him.
- For coach Baker.
- Yeah! How's coach Baker? Surprisingly good.
He said he's at peace with his decision.
Are you? I haven't really processed it yet.
I mean, there's been so much change these past few months, nothing surprises me no more.
DARNELL ON VIDEO: Hey, guys, we just wanted to show you LAYLA: Looks like the rally's going well.
Hopefully, a little less drama than here.
Everybody's there.
Not everybody.
They don't need me.
Well, maybe this time it's you that needs them.
I'd be blind not to notice how restless you've been lately.
Home, Crenshaw.
It's always been what centers you.
And it seems to me that you could use a major dose of home right now.
You down for a ride? Come on.
[LAYLA LAUGHS.]
KIA: They're trying to impose this transformation on our school without consulting parents, teachers, any of us.
DARNELL: Teachers are gonna have to reapply for jobs just like we're gonna have to reapply just for a chance to attend through a lottery.
And ain't no way we're standing for this, right? [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.]
Thank you Yo, remind me to never get on the wrong side of those two.
[BOTH CHUCKLING.]
Hey.
GRACE: Hey.
What are you doing here? Donate whatever resources you can for the school.
Help us build the case that we can succeed as a regular public school.
[APPLAUSE.]
Billy did what? Everything's gonna be fine, Ma.
Even without coach Baker, Beverly football's still got a future, which is more than I can say for South Crenshaw right now.
So who's got next? Think outside the box.
This is where I need to be tonight.
GRACE: OK.
You sticking around? Uh, no.
I got to go find my dad.
The same way being at home settles you, being on tour settles him.
I got to somehow convince him to go on tour.
My money's on you.
[DARNELL SPEAKING, INDISTINCT.]
Bye.
[CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.]
Ash, what are you doing here? If Hart sees you, he'll He'll what? Suspend an already suspended player? Look, Liv, I thought a lot about what's important, and I don't want to leave you this summer.
Asher.
And I don't want to miss this time with my mom either.
So what if you came with us? What, for the whole summer? What better way to work on us than to be stuck on a boat together? [CHUCKLING.]
OK.
SIMONE: It takes a lot to drag a pregnant girl out of bed this late, Jordan.
OK, look, in my defense, I had a whole plan on the field for a picnic, but the fog kind of messed that up.
Anyways, it doesn't matter, because I come bearing treats.
Jordan, what is this? That's a mocktail.
It's actually called cuddles on No.
I'm not talking about the drink.
Um I just I wanted to ask.
Why did you make that highlight reel for me? You know, Simone, watching my highlights got me thinking about my favorite play when the game is on the line.
Ball in my hands, I throw it as far as I can, hoping my receiver will make the catch.
It's actually called a Hail Mary.
Right.
It's a last ditch effort.
Hard to make work, but you have to try, right? Otherwise the game's over.
Yeah.
But, Jordan, this isn't a game.
This is It's real life.
Oh, I know.
But the same rules apply.
I'm in love with you, Simone, OK? And I know you might not feel the same way, and that's OK, but I just needed you to know.
And that was my hail Mary, by the way, in case GRACE: An organized, televised protest outside the school.
Get our fight in the national spotlight.
You know what would raise some real funds for this school? A bachelor auction, right? Um, excuse me.
- MICAH: You good? - GRACE: Yeah.
I got 400 for a date now with your fine young self.
You put me up on that stage, I could get you bids quadruple that in minutes.
Um, I'm not single, Denise.
Aw.
Not even to help the kids? [CHUCKLES WEAKLY.]
GRACE: Superintendent Carter, are you lost? [CHUCKLES.]
The flyer said this event was open to the community.
Well, if you really cared about this community, you wouldn't be trying to shove this magnet conversion down our throats.
What I'm proposing is good for the community.
Urban revitalization can't happen without gentrification.
And studies have shown that neighborhoods gentrify faster with the increased presence of magnet schools.
Everything good, Ma? Absolutely.
Just listening to superintendent Carter mansplain urban revitalization to me.
And let me tell you something, Carter, gentrification isn't always the answer to fixing the hood.
Clearly it was a mistake coming here.
If you'll excuse me.
So you're just gonna bounce without hearing our side? Look around, sir.
Look how many people rallied with less than a day's notice.
Imagine how many more gonna show up to fight at the school board meeting next week.
This is our Crenshaw, man.
Ain't no way we letting our hood, our schools get stripped away from us piece by piece.
Your passion is commendable.
I'm afraid it's too late.
What are you talking about? I have more than enough votes to push through my magnet conversion plan to the school, so the board agreed there's just no point in waiting.
The meeting to vote on the fate of South Crenshaw has been moved up to tomorrow.
[RESIDENTS MUMURING.]
Good luck with your event.
[SIGHS.]
Don't even seem real.
Yeah.
You'll be all right.
The word's already spread to recruiters about your impressive run at jamboree.
Everybody loves a good comeback story.
Senior year.
Every D-1 school in the nation is gonna want a piece of Spencer James.
Won't be the same without you.
You the reason I'm the player I am.
No.
You, you're the reason.
Don't forget that.
Hey, I got you something.
We talked about this being your year of firsts.
I just want you to know that you don't have to go through it alone.
Corey will always be by your side.
So will I not as a coach, but always as your friend.
J.
P.
: Make sure you have extra security at that venue.
I don't want a repeat of last year.
And make sure every artist shows up on Hey.
Seriah, can you excuse us for a sec? OK.
Everything OK? You're going on your tour, dad.
You just got out of rehab a couple of months ago.
Leaving so soon was a crazy idea.
I don't know what I was thinking.
I need to be home with you.
I agree with you about the home part, but home isn't the 4 walls we live between.
It's wherever you and I are together.
So this summer, I'm coming with you.
- You mean that? - Mm-hmm.
Well, how about your indie tour with Coop? I've already started calling the smaller venues in all the cities you're hitting.
Coop can play those spots, I still get my indie tour, and you and I get our quality time.
[CHUCKLING.]
Ohh.
[SIGHS.]
Hey, where's your suitcase? Thought your mom agreed.
I can't go with you, Ash.
- Look - Just wait.
Hear me out, OK? [SIGHS.]
You deserve to have the summer alone with your mom, OK, to reconnect and rebuild what you both lost.
And I know what that means to you.
That's the relationship you should be focusing on right now.
What does that mean for us? It means that I will spend the summer working on my podcast and drawing.
Hey, but whatever it is, I'll be waiting for my boyfriend to come home so that we can have a kick-ass senior year.
GRACE: How can they not see what they're doing? What'd I miss? Mom and some other parents went to talk to the president of the school board about South Crenshaw, but she didn't listen.
DARNELL: They're set on converting the school, man.
There's nothing we can do about it.
South Crenshaw was a part of dad's legacy.
So now I'm not gonna be able to share that with him? When will people learn that you can't keep taking resources out of the neighborhood and expect the hood to stay standing? Hey, what is that? It's the resource.
Yo, what's up, brother? ASHER: Why did you call a team meeting? JORDAN: Yo, is this about my dad? CROWD: The fight is not over! We will take over! The fight is not over.
We will take over Settle Quiet! If you don't quiet down, you will be removed.
Quiet.
[CLEARS THROAT.]
May I speak, Ms.
Sanchez? Spencer James isn't a student at this school.
It's not his place to speak.
But I am a member of this community, Sir.
So that gives me every right.
SANCHEZ: Go ahead, Mr.
James.
Two minutes.
Please don't give up on South Crenshaw high, Ms.
Sanchez.
Not yet.
My moms reminded me today that if we keep taking resources out of the neighborhood, if we keep diluting the legacies and memories created by this neighborhood, there gonna be no hood left standing.
And, look, I'm guilty of it, too.
I took a resource away from my neighborhood.
And like superintendent Carter, I thought I was doing it for all the right reasons, but I was wrong.
I was wrong.
Reinvesting in our community, reinvesting in us, in all of us, is the right choice.
That's why I'm bringing back the resource I took away.
What resource are you referring to? Me.
I'm the resource.
I'm one of the top 100 players in the country, back on top of every recruiter's list.
D-1 schools will travel to see my play.
That kind of national attention will attract even more resources and talent not just for the school but to the neighborhood without pushing the locals out.
So as of this fall, I'll be reenrolling as a student at South Crenshaw High.
[CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.]
South Crenshaw deserves its shot at being great.
I respectfully ask that you all think long and hard about that before you cast your vote.
[CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.]
- Hey.
- Hey.
Thanks for meeting me.
Yeah, well, ha! I had some free time on my hands.
Hey, I heard about the school board meeting.
All right.
Bringing it back to where it all started, huh? Yup.
Corey would be proud.
Thanks.
Well, we ain't out the woods yet.
They only holding off on converting the school for another year.
Oh, OK.
And then if they can't prove by then that they're worth being kept open, it's a wrap.
- Yeah.
- Whew.
What's the plan? Win the State Championship next year.
Come on, man.
Ain't nobody shutting down the home of the State Champs.
Yeah.
That's a lot of weight on your shoulders, son.
Yeah, I can handle it with the right coach.
Maybe one who never got to win State when he was a student here with his best friend.
[CHUCKLING.]
You're serious.
Dead serious.
Come coach for me here, on your home field, running the program your way.
This feels very familiar.
It should.
We had a similar conversation almost a year ago.
And I took a risk, and I bet on you.
So what's up, Coach? You willing to take a risk and bet on me? Oh, wow.
I thought I took Tamia Cooper off my approved visitors list.
What you doing here, Mo? Well, that's no way to greet an old friend.
Did you really think that I would let someone murder my baby brother and I wouldn't come back to town? What's done is done.
Tyrone's gone.
And the woman who took him out is in custody.
Ruth Scott may have pulled the trigger, but she didn't take him down alone.
You left this life a long time ago, Mo.
Don't do this.
We both know how it's gonna end.
If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? How does it feel - Ohh! - Ohh! COOP: What's up, little man? Hey, for real, though, forget about us here, all right? Go show 'em what you made of.
Got you.
How will it feel when it's time to move on? - Love you, man.
- Love you, too.
All right.
I'm out.
Mother says "kneel and pray" When it gets hard I will roll those sleeves Life can be so unkind I will be found On the edge of the world Where there'll be no one around On solid ground Solid ground Solid ground Solid ground Hi.
You've reached Leslie.
I'm not around right now, but leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thank you.
Leslie, I really need you to call me back.
I'm kind of spinning, and everyone's gone, and I just I feel like everything's falling apart.
Just call, please.
It's not a pill.
When it gets dark I will know no fear Life can be so unkind [BREATHING HEAVILY.]
[DOOR OPENS.]
Hanging around On the edge of the world Wait.
What are you doing here? I thought you'd be in Crenshaw with your family.
I came back to check on you.
Me? Yeah.
With everybody bouncing for the summer and Jordan with Simone, we pretty much all each other's got.
I I thought I was alone.
Hey, you ain't never alone.
You always got me.
All right.
Uh, so what trashy TV show we watching tonight? [CHUCKLES.]
Ahh.
Matter of fact, you pick the show.
I'm gonna go get some snacks.
OK.
Ah.
OK.
We got "spoiled hip-hop kids," "spoiled mafia kids," uh, oh, "tattoos gone bad.
" My God.
Spencer, you OK? DOCTOR: If there was any residual nerve damage, we'd know by now.
Especially given the intensity of the jamboree games There'd be neck pain You'd have neck pain.
Aggressive muscle weakness, full numbness of your hand.
[VOICE OF BILLY.]
What's the plan? [VOICE OF SPENCER.]
Win the State Championship next year.
Solid ground Solid ground Solid ground Solid ground
