Felicity s02e20 Episode Script

Ben Was Here

Previously on "Felicity" You didn't say anything to anyone about that, did you? No.
I didn't.
I didn't.
Your new co-presidents are Carol Nanning and Richard Coad.
- Ben was a huge help.
- What are you talking about? Ben was the one who gave me the drug information about Greg.
- I want to go.
- Go where? Away for the weekend.
We can still do it, right? - I thought you said it was too soon.
- I thought about it and I just I really got to get out of here.
Uh, I need a ticket to Rhinebeck.
Oh, my God.
This is beautiful.
Ah.
Was this the best idea.
Or what? Oh, my God.
How is this only two hours away from the city? I feel like I'm on another planet.
That's the idea.
Mm.
I'm so happy we're here, just away from everything.
So am I.
Mm.
- Ahh OK.
That'll be 12 bucks.
- 12 bucks? OK.
Thanks, Jerry.
Here you go.
OK.
And, uh, listen, good luck with the girl.
Thanks, Jerry.
Thanks a lot.
Come on.
Is that her? Yeah.
Yeah.
That's her.
Thanks, Jerry.
- Acream? - No.
Ashream.
It's one cube with sugar and cream mixed in.
Oh, shream.
Oh, that sounds fantastic.
So, you'd buy these? Dean & Deluca.
Oh, yes! Hold on.
Oh, it's Benjamin.
He's up in the wild green yonder.
- Hello.
- So, I found them.
- OK.
So what'd she say? - Well, I haven't talked to her yet.
I just saw them walking off, but she looked pretty happy.
Ben, are you on a cell phone? Yeah.
Let me give you a call back 'cause I don't wanna lose them, OK? - Are you on my cell phone? - Yes.
OK.
I take your shift, you take my phone.
That doesn't work, Ben.
Oh, by the way, Benjamin, Sean is, like a ten times better worker than you are.
- He's here on time, he's clean - I'm expecting an important call from the Independent Film Channel on that phone, Ben.
Fine.
I'll take a message.
Ben, listen to me.
It's very, very important you answer professionally, OK? Blumberg Productions.
Just answer the phone.
"Blumberg Productions.
" Guys, I gotta go.
This is so romantic that I can't stand it.
- Just tell her you love her.
- Fine.
Blumberg Productions! Cut off.
So.
Where's Noel? Uh, meeting Ruby at the library.
Oh.
They've been spending a lot of time together don't you think? Yeah.
I think he still likes her.
- You do? - What do you think? I mean, you’ve been hanging out with him more than I have.
Noel doesn't really like to talk about Ruby with me.
Yeah, it's tough.
I mean, if she wasn't pregnant, they'd still be going out.
Yeah, probably.
- Surprise.
- Surprise what? This is Vincent.
Uh, Vincent, that's Elena, and that's Julie.
Hey.
Right on.
How's it goin'? Good.
So.
What's up is Vincent and I are gonna take down this wallpaper and paint your apartment.
- Wow.
- What? Well, if we don't do it, it's never gonna get done, baby.
- He's right about that one.
- No, he's not.
Tracy, thank you very much, but I got it under control.
No, you don't have this under control.
Now, if I don't take a step forward and make this happen you’re gonna let this slide and lose your deposit.
Vincent's uncle owns an industrial renovation company, OK? This is the type of crap he does all day.
This is my apartment, and you don't get to decide what color it's gonna be painted when it's gonna be painted, or who's gonna paint it.
I know.
That's why I want you to pick a color.
I was thinking this yellowish tone right here or we could go with that violet.
- Violet's always nice.
- You’re not doing this.
Yes, I am, and you’re gonna be very happy with me when I'm done.
I promise, OK? This is gonna be so fine that people are gonna come here and be, like "You mean this isn't a Fifth Avenue penthouse? What? What?" You cannot make a mess in here.
Noel and I still have to live in here.
"Mess"? There will be no mess, all right? It will be, like, three clean-up days and that's it, right? - Right on.
- See? Three.
OK, fine.
Wow.
Nobody ever bosses Elena around like that.
- He is not bossing me around.
- Yeah, I am.
You’re right.
- I'm the man.
- What? - Hey.
Vince.
Who’s the man? - You are.
Yeah.
I see them.
And they're having a good time.
They're.
Like.
In a boat like in, like.
You know, a canoe.
Great.
Ben.
Did I get any messages? Sean.
Do you hear what I'm saying? I think she really likes him.
I think I'm gonna come home.
This is stupid.
No, no.
You’re not coming home, OK? You went there with a mission.
- You’re gonna complete that mission, Ben.
- He hasn't completed the mission yet? I know, but what am I supposed to do, just barge in on them? I can't do that.
Do you have any idea how much this phone call is costing me? I mean, they round off to the minute those cell phone guys, and you’re roaming.
- I know what roaming is.
- Just complete the mission.
And don't forget, answer the phone "Blumberg Productions.
" OK.
Ben? I know.
You told me that.
I got it.
- Blumberg Productions.
Just answer the phone - I said, I got it.
I got it.
Ben? - That boy has to get his duck in a row.
- Unbelievable.
So, do you think you can set up a meeting for me with Mr.
Dean or Mr.
Deluca or whoever that is? Well, you know, Seany, usually I would, you know, normally but I don't know if I should be asking for favors right now.
Why not? - Can you keep a secret? - Yeah.
OK.
I don't know how much longer I'm going to be working here.
I'm applying for college next year.
- Really? - Yes.
- Wow.
College? - Yeah, I know.
I know.
It's about time, you know, I get higher education.
Yeah, that's a That was fun.
The studying part was not fun, though.
- That's true, but the rest of it was.
- Yeah.
- Thank you for catching me up on class.
- Of course.
You haven't mentioned Wade all day.
- Is he still coming? - Yeah.
Yeah, Sunday.
I didn't think I'd be this nervous.
We talked on the phone a few times.
It's so weird.
I mean, we make this small talk, you know how my classes are, how work is for him.
It's like these two people who don't even know each other are going through the most important thing in the world.
Yeah.
Well, um, what's your plan? I mean, have you guys talked about what the next step is? No.
I guess that's why I'm so nervous.
Yeah.
You know you can call me with anything, anytime.
I know.
What was that? Ahh! God Oh! A pipe just blew up.
Damn it.
Ugh! So, if this whole medical thing doesn't work out for you then you have to open a restaurant.
Or my sister does.
Last night, I called her and I had her fax over the recipe.
Well, regardless, it was amazing.
I know that, um, we both agreed that we wouldn't rush things and we both know what that means, but I still think that we should have a fire in here.
Well, I looked, and there's no firewood.
I think they might have some at the main house.
Don't go anywhere.
I hear there's a madman out there in the forest.
Oh, my God! - What are you doing here? - I came here to tell you something.
What, that you told Richard Greg had a drug problem? - Yes, but - What you did was disgusting.
- I know that.
- What did Greg ever do to you? - Nothing.
Just wait - No.
You lied to me.
Ben, I asked you if you told anyone.
You said "no.
" - Can I say something, please? - Listen.
I came up here with Greg, OK? I'm trying to make this thing work with him, all right? - I know.
- I want you to leave.
- Listen.
Can you just wait a second and let me just say - No.
I don't want you in my life anymore! - Blumberg Productions.
- Good.
I just wanted to make sure you’re answering the phone the right way.
How's it going up there? So the guy at the front desk said there's incredible hiking, too.
And he’ll even make us a picnic if we want.
Isn't this great? A classic romantic cliché.
Yeah.
- This is OK? - Yeah, of course.
Yeah.
If you’re not comfortable with this, you know, we can stop.
Oh, no, no.
I'm fine.
Of course I'm fine.
I'm sorry.
I'm I'm sorry.
I'm not fine.
I'm I'm sorry.
I swear to God.
Felicity.
There's no expectations.
I'll sleep on the couch tonight.
- No.
It's not you.
- It's obviously me.
- No.
It's - What? It's Ben.
He showed up.
- What do you mean, "He showed up"? - Ben was here.
- Ben was here? In this place? - Yes.
He came to see me.
When? When I went to get firewood? - Is he still here? - No, no.
I told him to leave.
I cannot believe that he came up here.
That's psycho.
You know what? That's a reason to call the police.
OK.
You’re overreacting.
Yes, Ben did a bad thing.
That doesn't make him psycho.
He's threatened by you, and that's all it is.
- Why are you defending him? - I'm not defending him.
Look, I told him I don't want him in my life anymore.
Then why aren't you celebrating? Why aren't you happy about that? Why did you stop kissing me? Why did you say "no" when I asked if you were OK? I just can't stop thinking about it.
Um I don't know.
You can't stop thinking about him.
This weekend was supposed to be time away from the melodrama of the election the health center.
The campus.
It was supposed to be time for us but, uh.
Now's probably not the best time.
I'll be in the car.
So Tracy's doing this all for free.
Yeah.
He's got a friend who’s an expert or something.
- He really likes you, huh? - Yeah.
I know.
Oh, God.
I'm gonna kill him.
Is this a joke? This used to be our apartment.
Ugh.
What's that smell? - The death of a relationship.
- OK, what exactly is this friend an expert in? Hey, baby! Don't "hey, baby" me.
What is this? Uh, nothing.
Don't worry.
Everything's great now.
Vincent went to get some more emulsifier.
- What the hell is that? - You guys, I'm starting to feel dizzy.
Wait.
Emulsifier? Yeah.
You said it was gonna be clean in here.
- You promised.
- It is gonna be clean.
We just made a couple of mistakes put the wrong cleanser in the machine.
Everything's fine now, though.
Where do you keep the aspirin? So what are we supposed to do? We can't stay in here.
- You guys could stay at my place.
- I don't wanna stay at your place.
- I wanna stay at my place.
- You can stay at the loft.
- Thank you.
- You both can stay there, if you want.
- I accept.
You’ll probably have to remind me later that I accepted.
Baby, your place is gonna look good.
I promise.
It's gonna look awesome.
All right, this is bad.
I can't feel my tongue.
That'll pass.
You know.
I'm gonna go pack up my stuff and this is not funny, Julie.
- Unbelievable.
- Are you mad at me, baby? What do you think? Look at this mess.
Meghan, what's going on? I'm no plumber, but I think there's a leak.
So where's everyone going? You’re all staying in the cafeteria for at least two weeks.
- What, you’re not coming? - Hell, no.
I'm staying at Swayne's.
- Who's Swayne? - He works in the mail room.
Wait.
That weird little guy? Hey, who's staying in the cafeteria? So, whatever happened with Greg? - Um nothing.
- Oh Really? OK.
Now, this is just a prototype.
The actual production marshmallow rotisserie is gonna have ten spits.
It's gonna be motorized with a built-in heat source and it'll be portable.
Yeah.
So, why would anybody need, like, a $40 marshmallow roaster? Why does anybody need an in-the-shell egg scrambler? - They don't.
- But they buy them, don't they? No one buys those.
Have you ever seen anyone buy that? Hey.
Any calls? No.
No? What, mission failure? I don't wanna talk about the mission.
- How's it goin'? - What's up? - Great.
We're homeless.
Yeah.
They're gonna be staying here for a few days while their place gets renovated.
- "Renovated.
" Jeez.
- Want a s'more? - Yeah.
Sure.
- Yeah? OK.
Watch the ease with which the’mallow glides off the Teflon skewer.
Yeah.
You don't have to narrate it for me.
Just give it to me.
- All right.
- Thanks.
So Felicity didn't accept your apology? You guys all know where I was? What, she called from up there to tell you what an idiot I am? No.
She called from down here to tell us what an idiot you are.
She came back? And then there was this pipe explosion at the dorm.
Yeah.
A water main burst.
Anyway.
She’s staying at the cafeteria with all of her advisees and stuff.
- But I wouldn't go down there if I were you.
- No, I'm not gonna go down there.
She came back? * Time can dive and whirl * Confetti It can lead you on though it blows away I don’t think I know I'm just a needle in the high tide * Waiting for kids to play * *I can’t wait for someone to come * * No.
No.
God.
I can’t wait for someone * OK.
All better.
* No.
No.
God I can’t wait for someone * * Love * * Faces on the bridge * * Lovers and places that you know * * They bring comfort to your soul * Hey.
So, the minute I got home they paged to get me to come help out.
So I guess it was probably for the best that we came back.
No, it wasn't.
I feel awful about tonight.
Don't.
Don't worry about it.
I mean, you get us this amazing cabin.
You cook us this or your sister cooks us this incredible meal.
Uh, that was me cooking.
I mean, instead of this relaxing weekend you drive two hours back to the city to, basically, start working for the Red Cross.
Well, it was my choice to come help out.
Yeah, I know.
Can I take you to dinner tomorrow night, please? What about Ben? Ben is from my past, and he's over and he's not gonna get in the way of my life anymore.
So, please, can I take you to dinner? - OK.
- Good.
Did you really follow Ben to New York? Sort of.
Why? That's what Noel told me but I didn't really understand because he said you guys weren't even friends.
Well, the story's a little embarrassing.
I, uh I always knew who Ben was in high school.
I always saw him and thought if we knew each other, we would love each other.
And, uh graduation he signed my yearbook and what he wrote just confirmed what I thought about him.
So I jettisoned my whole life plan and came to New York.
You don't seem like the kind of person who'd follow a guy like that.
Yeah, well of course, now I've realized that I was running away from things as much as I was running towards something.
Yeah, Ben was just it was just a silly fantasy that I had.
Who you ended up dating.
That's cool.
How many girls get to date their fantasy? Yeah, but the fantasy is beautiful and shallow.
The actual relationship's a whole different thing.
Wow.
Whatever he wrote in your yearbook must have been pretty great.
Yeah.
It was.
- Well, good luck falling asleep.
- You, too.
What is that? Yoga? Praying to Mr.
Sun? I told you, I slept in the cafeteria last night.
You poor thing.
I could never spend the night in a smelly cafeteria.
Hey, why don't you come stay with me and Samuel? Oh, yeah.
You could sleep in between us.
And we'll make a sophomore sandwich.
- It'll be fun.
- No, thanks.
I'm OK.
So, I can't believe you didn't forgive Benjamin right on the spot.
He shouldn't be apologizing to me.
He should talk to Greg.
The whole reason he went up there was to make himself feel better.
It was ultimately selfish.
Oh, OK, so he goes to the train station buys a ticket, spends over two hours trying to reach you just to say he's sorry, and that's selfish.
OK.
That is not selfish, honey, OK? That is the opposite of selfish.
That's buy-fish.
- Can I, uh, take my break now? - No, you cannot take your break right now.
Benjamin has changed a lot in the last few months and you cannot tell me that you have not noticed.
- I'm sure he has, but that doesn't mean - But nothing! You are blind to the new Benjamin for some reason.
You you need glasses, like me.
- Take mine.
- Javier, I don't Take mine.
Go ahead.
Put them on.
OK.
You look nice, I think.
Now, do you see him? You see the new Benjamin? - This is - It's funny but I am not kidding.
Now, Benjamin came in here before you went off to that godforsaken place and he felt so bad about the whole thing with Greg and Richard.
He was almost in tears.
Are you serious? - Nice look.
- Hey.
Thanks.
- Oh, hello, you.
- Hi.
Julie.
Julie, hi.
Sorry.
Sorry.
So sorry.
Well, now you are on your break and I'm taking my eyeballs back.
So, how's the cafeteria? It's fine.
You know, wood floors hundreds of people snoring, echoing all night.
- It's fine.
- Hmm.
OK.
Well, there's a couch at the loft waiting for you.
And Elena and Noel are both staying there so there's a huge crowd and you’ll barely have to even see Ben.
I just don't think I could stay there after what happened last night.
Well, maybe this is a good time for you guys to make up.
I mean, you’re gonna forgive each other eventually, right? I was pretty hard on him.
Good! You’re staying there.
Done deal.
OK.
Then do you mind if Ruby stays there, too? I mean, she's, like, five months pregnant sleeping next to a Coke machine.
Oh, my God.
Of course she can.
Yeah.
OK.
You want a coffee? I'm on break now.
Yes, please.
Decaf.
- OK, seriously, how is this comfortable? - You are never to touch my underwear.
We have some new guests.
Let me take your bags.
Hey.
- Did you guys hear about Calvin? - Yeah, the pipes broke? Hey.
Uh.
Is Wade here.
Yet? - Oh, um, his flight got delayed.
- Oh.
- Hey.
- Hi.
Thanks for, you know, letting us stay here.
- Sure.
- Yeah, thank you so much.
Yeah, sure.
No problem.
OK.
Who's got plans tonight? - Uh, I do.
- Mmm, so do I.
No.
No.
No.
Come on.
It's game night.
OK? I got Boggle, Twister, Masterminds, Scruples, Battleship.
Boggle.
God, I feel like I haven't played that in a million years.
- I so kicked your ass in Boggle.
- No, you did not.
Well, I will kick anybody's ass in Mastermind.
Not mine, you won't.
- What are you doing here? - Don't worry about it.
I got somebody working on it.
- You guys, your place is gonna look good.
- There's strangers in our apartment? - Hey, do you play? - Uh, Battleship? No.
Mastermind? Watch out, now.
- Hey, where are you going? - I got a paper due.
Oh.
OK.
Uh.
Who likes s'mores? Me.
- You got room for one more? - What happened to Swayne? Swayne is a giant son of a bitch.
You, uh, still owe me for the tour of the dorm.
I figured this way, we'd be even.
Welcome to game night.
OK.
OK.
I don’t think you can do that.
- I'm taking orders.
Who wants s'mores? - I do.
- I do.
- Yeah? - Yeah, I do.
- I do.
I do.
- Want s'mores? Julie? Julie? Yeah! Aah! It's a fair game.
It's competitive.
You play this better than I do.
I can't play this that well.
Blumberg Productions.
Yeah? Uh-huh.
Right.
Right, right, right.
Uh, yeah.
Sure.
Wow.
No.
I l Yeah.
Tomorrow's fantastic.
First thing is.
Uh- - OK.
Thank you.
Hey.
Uh the Independent Film Channel wants to buy "Docuventary.
" Oh, my God! That is so great.
Um, that's the documentary we're all in, right? Uh, yeah.
Yeah, isn't that great? No.
Oh, there's nothing to be afraid of.
I mean, everybody comes off really great.
Julie, you you saw it.
Is is it good? It's uh um Sean just kissed me.
Oh, God.
What time is it? - 8:15.
Do you have any lipstick I can borrow? Yeah.
I got to go.
- I'm Wade.
- Hey.
Wade.
Come on in.
- You want a drink or something? - No, no.
I'm OK.
Hello.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Is, uh, Ruby here? Yeah.
She's she's getting ready.
- Cool.
Thanks.
- Yeah.
- So, you’re the guy that knocked her up.
- Meghan! - What? Someone has to say what we're all thinking.
Forgive Meghan.
She hasn't learned yet that being rude and being charming aren't the same thing.
- I'm Noel.
- Hi.
Oh.
You’re Noel.
Yeah, and you’re Wade.
Yeah.
I'll get it.
As if anyone else would offer.
- Hey.
- How you doing? - Good.
How you doing? - Good.
Richard.
We sold it.
Call me.
Hi.
What are you doing here? I'm meeting Felicity.
She's getting dressed.
- Hi.
- Hey.
- I'm Greg.
- Wade.
- How you doing? - Hey, sorry.
Yeah.
Hey, take your time.
Hi.
I'm I'm Felicity.
- Oh, Ruby's R.
A.
, right? - Right.
Well, she loves you.
Oh, you must you must be Wade.
- Wade.
- Hi.
Hi.
Somebody leave.
- Uh, we should get going.
- Yeah, we should be.
I'll see you guys later.
Hey, you hungry? Starved.
Yeah.
- You want to play? - Uh, no, thanks.
- Ben want to play? - Uh no.
No, thanks.
Operation? What the hell.
I got it.
I got it.
Hey! You got to tell me what the hell she sees in the guy because, seriously, Greg can kiss my ass.
Mine, too.
Whenever he wants.
You know what? Just calm yourself down, OK? Roast yourself a few marshmallows.
- I don't want marshmallows.
- You want Felicity.
- Yes.
Then go get her, because she wants you, too.
What? Wait a sec.
What does that mean? What do you mean? I am her roommate.
Think about it for a second.
Roommates pick up on all the subtleties all the insignificant details that tell you things about the person you’re living with you don't even want to know.
So I have one thing you don't have.
I have a lot of things you don't have but one of them is insight into Felicity Porter.
This is how I know Felicity still likes you.
- Are you ready? - Yeah, what what is it? - Sarah McLachlan.
- What? When Felicity showed up last year head over heels for you Sarah McLachlan was all she listened to.
If "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" wasn't in the CD player it was only so "Solace" could get a little airplay.
I started calling it Ben music not to her face, but behind her back.
But then, it went away and I thought Sarah was gone for good.
I almost started celebrating, and then you showed up again.
You offered Felicity this cross-country trip of a lifetime which means I got to memorize every lyric from "Surfacing" all ten songs.
This year started off McLachlan heavy until the big break-up.
And then, all Felicity's hair went away, and so did Sarah until you guys broke into the pool.
Now, maybe it was a coincidence but guess who started to make a comeback.
It was gradual but constant, and now, if you want me to I can sing any song from "Mirrorball" which really annoys the hell out of me.
So, if you’re ever curious about whether Felicity has the hots for you just check her boom box.
That's the dumbest theory I've ever heard.
No.
I buy it.
Let me put it this way.
Greg knows how to work it.
If she spends too much time with him Sarah's going back on the shelf.
Is that Sarah McLachlan thing true? I got to pee.
- So, what do you think? - I don't know.
I haven't decided yet.
You know, I wish I knew you well enough to tell you that it just drives me insane that Ben's your new roommate.
Look, I'm only staying there because Julie invited me.
You know, he came by my work today.
- Who? - Ben.
- He came by to apologize.
- Good.
You deserve it.
So, what did he say? That, uh, he was sorry.
- Hmm.
Good.
- Yeah.
So, what, um what exactly was that kiss? Uh, I don't know.
Sorry.
I got excited about, you know, my movie.
OK.
So that's, you know, that's all that that was? No.
No.
There's a little more to it than that.
I am totally, madly, insanely, passionately in love with you.
I have been for a long time.
And before you ask, no, I'm not kidding.
- What? - What? You were staring off.
Oh, I was I was just thinking about Ruby.
You know, being out with - Wade.
- Wade.
Heh.
I've got to say something.
So, please, just let me say it.
You’ve got to be l I thought you said you were gonna stop screwing up my life.
I know.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
What was the apology for? I'm sorry.
I've made a lot a lot of mistakes and nobody knows that more than you do.
But the biggest mistake I ever made was letting you go.
What I should have done is realize that being with you made me the luckiest guy on the planet.
What I should have done is treat you with respect.
I should have done a lot of things I didn’t do and I didn’t do them because I was afraid.
- I was scared.
- Ben, I'm on a date right now I know, please, just just let me finish.
You and I should be together.
And the reason I'm saying this now the reason I'm not waiting is because I don’t want to risk losing you again.
I mean.
The only difference now is that this time you’re the one who’s afraid.
- I'm afraid? - Yeah, because you don't trust me anymore.
- Why do you think that is, Ben? - Please, can you just give us a second? - No, you know what? You had your chance.
- Felicity, I will do whatever it takes because the only thing I'm afraid of now is that you’re not willing to take the chance, too.
- Ben, you can't do this.
- I can't do what? Just show up and make these little speeches.
I mean, that's not how it works, OK? - You did the exact same thing last year.
- No.
That's not what I did last year.
- It's not the same thing at all.
- This is exactly the same thing.
I was leaving to go with Noel and you just show up and you make these overtures.
I mean.
This is how you operate.
It's not how I operate.
It's how I feel about you.
No.
It's this thing you do.
It's this pattern, you know? It's not about me, it's about the chase - That's not true.
