Thunderbirds Are Go! (2015) s02e22 Episode Script

Long Haul

[MUSIC.]
[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER.]
This is Echo-One-Nine requesting docking.
Echo-One-Nine, proceed to Dock Seven.
Engage guidance system.
[ALARM BLARING.]
[SYSTEM BEEPING.]
Emergency.
This is Transport Alpha-Nine-Nine.
I read you, Nine-Nine.
What's the problem? Our engine controls are failing.
Request immediate clearance to dock.
Copy that.
Bay 2-1 is nearest.
I'll clear you a path.
Attention all space traffic, all ships divert from Bay 2-1 and await further instructions.
[CHUCKLES.]
Good.
[ALARM BEEPING.]
Bravo 2-4, I gave an order to divert.
Sorry, Control, missed that.
We're gettin' a lot of interference.
You have to change course.
Divert to Bay 2-2.
2-4, do you copy? Copy that.
But it's gonna be tight.
[ALARM BLARING.]
No.
No, no, no, no, no! Control, we made it, but we hit something.
How bad is it? Core is breached! Coolant system is offline.
We're going into meltdown.
ANNOUNCER: Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
[THRUSTERS.]
[TITLE MUSIC.]
Thunderbirds are go.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[ALARM BLARING.]
Space Hub One, come in.
This is International Rescue.
I've been monitoring your transmissions.
Do you need assistance? This is Controller Conrad.
Our core is ruptured, the coolant unit is leaking and we're going into meltdown.
Apart from that, everything's fine.
You have an evac in progress.
Yeah.
I'm riding the power controls to buy time till everyone's out, but I'm only delaying the meltdown.
I can't stop it.
Alan, you reading this? You need to get up there.
F-A-B, John.
I'm on my way.
[MUSIC.]
Five, four, three, two, one! Thunderbird 3 is go! Conrad, time to get out of there.
OK, I'm heading out.
[RUMBLING.]
Argh! [GASPS.]
[MUSIC.]
[GASPS.]
Argh! [RADIO STATIC CRACKLING.]
Conrad, come in.
Do you read me? Alan, Conrad was still on board when comms went down.
He was about to evac, but I don't know if he made it.
If he's there, I'll find him.
I have a visual on the station.
[DEVICE BEEPS.]
I got him! But he's not moving and life signs are very weak.
He's in an escape chute, but it's crushed under wreckage.
One wrong move and the whole thing will break apart.
Ah, looks like I'm gonna have to surf over and say hi in person.
[DEVICE BEEPING.]
[CONRAD BREATHING HEAVILY.]
This is the duty log of Space Controller Conrad, Space Hub One.
I'm running out of air and time.
[MUSIC.]
I don't know if anyone will hear this.
I hope everyone else made it out.
This was all my fault.
I should've spotted that cruiser.
I'm sorry.
[SIGHS.]
Argh! The airlock is too far gone.
And the heat from the power core is blocking the only way through to Conrad.
Luckily, I brought a can opener.
Ugh, not even a scratch! Brains, how do I get into this thing? You can't cut through.
That chute is designed to withstand meteor hits and collisions with space debris.
- And I've got worse news.
- Of course you do.
Oxygen levels have reached critical.
Conrad is running out of air.
I'm on it.
[GRUNTING.]
Come on! OK, I've hooked the escape chute up to Thunderbird 3's life support.
Hope I'm not too late.
Attaching comms unit.
Hello, this is International Rescue.
Do you read me? Hello, Conrad? Do you copy? [STATIC CRACKLING.]
Hello? [PANTING.]
Thanks for the air.
I would invite you in, but the place is a bit of a mess.
[CHUCKLES.]
Hang in there.
We'll find a way to get you out.
But that means getting me in, and the only way to do that is to stabilise the hub.
Then we need a plan fast.
The temperature is still rising and we're running out of time before the whole thing blows.
OK, Brains, give us a rundown of our options.
I admire your optimism in thinking we have more than one.
Without a working coolant unit, the power core will keep overheating until meltdown.
But it's too damaged for repairs.
We have to replace it.
- OK, where do we get a replacement? - Right here! We use the same cooling system for the power core on Tracy Island.
- And I have a back-up.
- Great.
Problem solved.
It's not that simple.
That coolant unit is m-massive.
The one at the space hub was transported bit by bit.
- It took weeks.
- And we don't have weeks.
Is there a vehicle that can take it in one piece? Thunderbird 3, but But disconnecting it from the hub means no life support for Conrad.
- Correct.
- You said we had one option.
I've run some numbers and Thunderbird 2 could carry it.
Uh, I think you're forgetting the whole "in space" part of the mission.
Thunderbird 2 is not a spaceship.
Only because it doesn't have the right rockets.
But with my experimental engine mods I think it could break free of Earth's gravity - and make it to the space hub.
- You think? We need to be sure.
Well, I still have to factor in wind resistance, size of payload relative to velocity I don't know about this, Virgil.
What do you think? Well, Scott I think Thunderbird 2 is going into space! [MUSIC.]
Hey, Brains, when you're done here, can you make Thunderbird 4 into a spaceship, too? Whoa! Let's not get carried away here, guys.
Besides, we need Thunderbird 4 standing by for splashdown, as a submarine! F-A-B.
But could you blame a guy for asking? Right? [BEEPS FRANTICALLY.]
Sorry, MAX.
I was testing retro rockets.
Hey, Conrad, Thunderbird 2 is ready for launch.
It's carrying a new coolant unit.
As soon as we swap out the old one, we can re-open the maintenance hatch.
Alan, I don't want anyone else to be put in danger because of me.
Hey, we're International Rescue, it's what we do, and I'm gonna stay right here until we open the door.
Come on, Virgil.
[MUSIC.]
All systems are online.
Commencing launch sequence.
This is new.
But, I guess, so is blasting off for outer-space in your cargo ship.
Here we go.
Ten Nine BOTH: Eight Seven Six F-five Four ALL: Three.
Two.
One! [THRUSTERS.]
Thunderbird 2 is going into space! Whoo-hoo! [MUSIC.]
Going into space, going into space, going into space, going into space! Heat shields are taking a lot of punishment but they're still at 90%, which is well within range.
OK, but keep monitoring, closely.
Come on, old friend, you can do this.
Only a few thousand metres to go.
Shields are down to 85%.
[GRUNTS.]
Nothing to worry about.
This is a routine flight.
Just going a little further than usual.
- Shields are holding at 82%.
- Nearly there.
The booster rockets have fired.
You can jettison them now.
[MUSIC.]
We made it.
Setting a course for the space hub.
So, Conrad, how'd you become a space controller? You're making conversation to try and take my mind off the meltdown, - aren't you? - No.
It's OK.
[CHUCKLES.]
I haven't got anything better to do.
I always wanted to see the world.
[MUSIC.]
I mean, really see it, you know? Now all I want is to see my home again.
- And where is that? - Slough.
My family still live there.
And they're all heroes.
My brother's a fire-fighter, the other's a paramedic, and my sister's a police officer.
You have any idea how much pressure that is? I can try to imagine.
I just wanted to make them proud of me.
I mean, space.
That's a pretty big deal, right? And I blew it.
I didn't react fast enough.
It was an emergency situation.
You responded as fast as anyone could, and you got everyone out safely.
Everyone but me.
Who ordered the pepperoni? [MUSIC.]
Oh, seriously? You have pizza? [CHUCKLES.]
No, that was a joke.
I just have a new coolant unit.
Eh.
Almost as good.
First, you need to uncouple the old unit.
[GASPS.]
Better move fast.
You don't have much time.
The station won't last long without any coolant.
Moving the new one into position.
[LAUGHS.]
Smooth.
Ah, new cooling system in place.
Core temperature is dropping! Cool! [SIGH OF RELIEF.]
Time to meet my new buddy face-to-face.
F-A-B.
I'll load up the old coolant unit for safe disposal back on Earth.
Alan! Hey, how's it going? [CHUCKLES.]
The core is back online and restoring power to the hub.
But I'll stay till the repair crew gets here and make sure it's stable.
I'm taking Thunderbird 2 back down and giving Conrad a ride.
Yeah, I'm guessing you don't wanna waste another second - getting back to Earth.
- Well, yeah.
But also, this way, I get to ride in Thunderbird 2.
- I mean, it is the coolest Thunderbird.
- Right?! I'm choosing to ignore that.
[CHUCKLES.]
[MUSIC.]
Hang on.
It may get a little bumpy as we re-enter the Earth's atmosphere.
[MUSIC.]
Er, that's a lot bumpy.
[GRUNTING.]
Virgil, it's your heat shields.
They took too much damage on launch.
They're below 70%.
Thunderbird 2 is going to burn up on re-entry! [MUSIC.]
[GRUNTING.]
Trying to adjust the angle of re-entry.
It's not working.
- Shields are still dropping.
- Virgil, I'm coming for you! It's too late, Alan.
Thunderbird 2 is caught in Earth's gravity.
Virgil, you guys have to bail out in a pod.
Negative, Scott.
Can't do it.
We can build another Thunderbird 2.
We can't rebuild you.
Eject, now! I'm carrying the damaged coolant unit.
If it explodes, it's going to rain toxic chemicals - across half the planet.
- Wait, that's it.
What is? [SEATBELT CLICKS.]
- Conrad, come back! - I just need a minute.
What are you doing? You're going to get smashed to bits.
We can use the coolant in the old unit to freeze Thunderbird 2's outer hull and stop us burning up.
I don't want to be a downer but wasn't the whole problem that the old one didn't have enough coolant left in it? Not enough for the hub.
[MUSIC.]
But Thunderbird 2 is much smaller.
He's right.
If Conrad gets the remaining coolant under Thunderbird 2's hull - his plan just might work.
- Might? - It might definitely work.
- I hope so.
I'm running a coolant hose out of the old unit.
There's a connector at the back of the module.
[GRUNTS.]
I got it! Coolant is pumping.
Then you'd better wrap up warm.
It's going to get very cold in there.
It's working.
The temperature has dropped but you've taken a lot of damage.
[GRUNTS.]
Come on, Thunderbird 2, you can do it.
Come on.
Come on.
[CHUCKLES.]
[BOTH LAUGHING.]
[MUSIC.]
It's good to see you guys.
Everything up here is stable.
Repairs are underway.
If I hadn't made that mistake, the hub wouldn't even need repairs.
I should've reacted quicker.
Hey, your quick thinking up there saved us, and Thunderbird 2.
So, Conrad, what's next? I'll drop in and see my family in Slough, and then it's back up to the hub.
Hey, Brains, how long would it take to refit Thunderbird 2 - to take Conrad back up? - Thanks, but, er, I think this time I'll get a ride designed to go into space.
Alan? And which Thunderbird is the coolest? - Thunderbird 3 is the coolest.
- Yes, it is.
[ALL LAUGHING.]
