Haunted Collector (2011) s03e03 Episode Script
Ghost Behind Bars - Haunted Brothel
- On this episode Of Haunted Collector We're gonna be investigating the Montana State Prison.
The door shoved me back.
It was terrifying.
It was like fingers wrapped around my trachea to the point where I could not breathe.
Welcome to the Dumas Brothel.
There was a woman.
And when I reached up, she disappeared.
Before all was said and done, you had 168 dead miners.
Absolutely ungodly horrifying.
Hey, guys, did something just move? [Bleep.]
Brian, look at the shadow.
- There it is again! - What? - Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- Jesus [Bleep.]
! That's not Chris.
Aimee, I'm [Bleep.]
locked in here.
- Get your dad! Seriously! - All right, hold on.
I'm going.
Aimee! My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects - Whoa.
There it goes.
There it goes.
- Oh, my God.
And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris, my daughter Aimee.
Brian my tech guy, Jason my researcher.
And Jesslyn my investigator.
- My job? - What is that? Don't touch that thing.
Find the haunted item and remove it.
Because I am the Haunted Collector.
- Hey.
- Hey, dad.
I'm glad you're up because we just got a case.
It's from Julia and she works at the old Montana State Prison.
Okay.
Let's take a look.
Hi, John.
This is Julia Brewer and I really need some help.
Our employees and visitors have been pushed.
People have been scratched.
I personally have been choked and I have been smothered.
I've noticed the activity that we're seeing is rising in intensity.
And I'm really concerned for the safety of our visitors and our employees.
So, please, help us find some solutions because, there's something going on and it's not good.
Okay, why don't you guys get a hold of the rest of the team? And let's get packed up and let's head out there.
We're going out to the Wild Wild West, guys.
Okay, guys, here we are in Deer Lodge, Montana.
Now, we're gonna be investigating the Montana State Prison.
This place functions as a historical site.
Well, this particular prison had some of the worst conditions out of any prison in the entire U.
S.
.
At points it was four times over capacity and studies have shown That when prisons are overcrowded like this, the violence skyrockets.
I've investigated several prisons over the years and Let me tell you, these places hold on to some serious negative energy.
Okay, guys, Aimee and I are gonna head in and go meet with Julia.
Jesslyn, poke around and see who else might have some stories.
Chris, Brian, get the equipment ready, guys, okay? - All right.
- All right.
- Bye, guys.
- Good luck.
- Hi, Julia.
Nice to finally meet you.
- Glad to meet you.
- This is my daughter Aimee.
- Hi.
Nice to meet you.
Well, can you share a little bit about some of the history? That will help us out.
We are a historic site and we are open to visitors.
This building that we're standing in right now is the Administration Building.
In 1908, you had a Deputy Warden that was killed in a very horrific, bloody manner.
There was two inmates William Hayes and George Rock And they approached the Deputy Warden in his office, and immediately started just beating him.
The Warden, Frank Conley, saw blood flying everywhere.
It was horrible.
And, he was able to shoot William Hayes in the ear.
And then put two rounds into George Rock's lungs.
The gunshots did not slow down these inmates.
They were in this feeding frenzy, and so Frank Conley took the handle of this revolver - Is this the actual weapon? - That is the actual pistol.
He was able to take the weapon here, and he was beating them with the butt of this pistol.
And finally slowed them down enough that the guards were able to come in and subdue Rock and Hayes.
It's a very significant piece of history.
I definitely would agree with you.
Julia, after the attack on the Deputy Warden, what happened to the inmates? They were hung here in the prison.
And when they finally died, the Warden, Frank Conley, said "Vengeance is mine".
Here in the 1912 cell house, we hear a lot of noises in this building.
You can hear footsteps, especially on the upper tiers.
You will hear men's voices up to, like, a roar.
There's some interesting items that I wanna share with you, that are original to this prison.
Ordinary toothbrush.
Metal.
And you turn it into a lethal weapon.
Can you just stop and think about some of that negative energy that these types of items can hold on to? I mean, we'll probably never know for sure whether they were ever used or not but If it was created, it was probably put into play.
This is where they housed the worst of the worst.
Maximum security is the one area where I'm extremely uncomfortable.
I mentioned that I had been choked, and this is the place, right here.
It was like fingers wrapped around my trachea and just squeezed, to the point where I seriously could not breathe and I had to leave.
Also, the very first time my daughter came in here, she had a terrifying experience.
My mom was locking up, I was looking into a cell, actually, and there's doors in front of the cells and they have peepholes at the top.
I was on my toes and I'm just trying to look in and the door actually, just shoved me back and I hit the wall that was behind me.
The door actually physically moved you? Yes.
It was terrifying, absolutely terrifying.
Julia, there's a lot to work with here.
I wanna get the team in here and let's see if we can't get some answers.
I really appreciate that.
After talking to Julia, I could see it in her face.
She's concerned.
There's so many things that have happened in here, I wanna find out, is there paranormal activity going on here at the prison? All right, guys, I wanna just jump right into the investigation.
Jason, Jesslyn, I want you guys to do the administrative building.
And then I want you to head down to where the gallows are.
Chris, Brian, and I, we're gonna jump into a lot of the cell block area, and the maximum security area.
- Let's head out.
- All right.
- Look here, Jase.
- What's this? This is the actual gun that the Warden used to shoot, the guys who were attacking the Deputy Warden.
He ended up beating 'em with the butt, right? - Yeah.
- And knocking 'em out? I'm not getting any readings.
- This is a big place.
- Yeah.
Let's go in there.
Are these all authentic John, do you know if these were here? Yes.
A lot of items they found left behind from the inmates.
Are you getting any readings or anything off any of these, Chris? No.
Not a whole lot.
I'm gonna take some pictures.
Tonight I wanna try out some old style Polaroid cameras.
There's a school of thought that the spirits can manipulate the chemicals in the film emulsion of a typical Polaroid picture to show themselves.
Wow.
Holy crap.
Look at this.
Oh, my God.
I'm gonna set up the REM-pod on the top of this thing.
This is creepy as heck.
Careful.
You're on the edge.
I've set up this device up here.
If you come in contact with it It's gonna let us know that you're here.
- We'd really appreciate that.
- Jason.
- Yes.
- There's something outside.
- What? Where? - Something I just saw it pass Like I just saw someone run past here and then run past there.
Okay, it walked past this.
And then I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, until I saw it go past this window, too.
And it was just a shadow.
A full person, I would've been able to see.
There's no way to cast a shadow.
It would have to be cast on the wall all the way over there.
- There it is again! - What?! It just came back this way.
Did you not see that? I did not.
Okay.
We should probably go outside.
I'm gonna walk right past there.
See if you can actually see it.
All right.
All right, I'm gonna walk by the first window.
That's not what I saw.
Jason may not have seen that shadow, but I'm 100% positive I saw it.
And my only question is, was it human or was it paranormal? Let's start looking through some of these now and let's see.
Got anything, Chris? Maybe.
I don't it's just difficult to see.
Do you have anything on yours? Is that your shadow? That's not Chris.
Look at it.
What the hell is that? That's not Chris.
Look at that.
That's not Chris.
Look at it.
What the hell is that? That's not Chris.
- Look at that.
- What the hell is that? That looks like a female.
Look at the characteristics.
All right, we gotta get this back, guys.
Let's take a closer look at this and, let's see if we can't figure out what the hell's going on in here.
Wow.
We know the old Montana State Prison housed many violent males.
So I was very surprised to see that the photograph looked like a female apparition.
I'm going to meet with Valerie who works in records, and see if she knows why an apparition of a female might be present here.
What would a female be doing in the maximum security area where only males were? Well, before 1959, that building was a woman's prison.
So that's where the women were kept before it became maximum security? Yes, but when the women were in there Their living conditions were horrid.
These women did not have any plumbing.
They were given two buckets One for drinking water and one for waste.
And what kind of treatment did they receive? If you were acting up, you pretty much got the same treatment as the men did.
So they were put in solitary and thrown in the hole, if you will? Yes.
The fact that this prison housed female inmates, shines a new light on this investigation.
Could this image we captured in the Polaroid, possibly be one of the former inmates? I'm hoping we find out tonight.
Aimee and Jess will man the monitors.
Brian and Chris will investigate the main cell block.
And Jason and I will check out the tunnels beneath the main cell block.
All right, this is downstairs in the tunnels.
We'll keep our eye on it.
Do you wanna do maybe an EVP session to start out here? - I think it'll be a good idea.
- Okay.
Can you tell us your name? Did you die in here? Do you feel like you were wrongly convicted? Go ahead, play that back.
Can you tell me your name? Did you die in here? Do you feel like you were wrongly convicted? - Play it back one more time.
- Did it say yes? - That's what I'm thinking.
- That's what I heard.
It's female and it's saying yes.
Do you feel like you were wrongly convicted? .
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
What's up? - [Bleep.]
Damn it.
What happened? What happened? .
- Getting any readings? - Nothing, absolutely nothing.
I feel like I wanna go up to the fourth floor and work our way down.
Okay.
Wait.
Hello? Go.
- Hang on.
Hold on.
- Is anyone down here? - Watch your step.
- It sounded like it came from the stairs.
All right, I'm at a dead end and I found nothing.
What about you? I looked into every single cell, but I didn't see anything.
Yeah, let's meet back at the stairs.
Whoa.
What is that? I don't know.
There it is again.
Is that a window or - The hole doesn't have windows, right? - No, it doesn't, no.
- It's completely underground.
- I'm gonna go check it out.
I'll take this camera and I'll just call up to you when I get down there.
Careful.
- You need to go to the left, Jess.
- Got it.
Hey, it looks like the light was coming from over here.
I see absolutely nothing that could've been making that light.
I think it was coming from up here, yeah? Holy [Bleep.]
, Aimee.
My camera just went out.
Oh, my God.
There's something making noise back here, I don't know what it is.
- Aimee, did you see anything? - The lights were flashing again.
Oh, my God.
Aimee, I'm locked in.
The door shut me in the showers.
Aimee, I'm [Bleep.]
locked in here.
All right, I'm on my way.
Let me see what's going on.
- Where are you? - I'm in the showers.
Right here.
- You're here? - Right here.
Can you, like, kick the door or something? No, I can't, Jess.
It's locked.
I don't know how this shut.
- Are you [Bleep.]
me?! - No.
Aimee, there's [Bleep.]
going crazy! - Get your dad! Seriously! - All right, hold on.
I'm going.
I'm going back over there to get someone.
Aimee! Aimee! Uh, dad, could you guys come down to the first floor? Okay, I'm on my way.
There's [Bleep.]
going crazy here, seriously.
- Where are you? - John? I'm in the showers.
What are you doing down in here? I came down here because there was a light and we couldn't explain it.
I came in here and the door was shut.
Well, it opened up okay.
- Opened all right for me.
- Aimee couldn't get it open.
All right, come on.
You gotta get outta here now.
Come on.
Go up.
You should never do it by yourself.
What did you actually see? What was happening? Right here.
There was lights, like, flashing, flashing, flashing.
You couldn't get back out, you couldn't get that door open? - When you were down there? - No, the door was locked.
I mean, I can see the both of youse are pretty shaken up.
I think you oughta really call it quits for the night.
Got some weird things going on here.
Definitely gotta find out about some of this.
During last night's investigation, we experienced a lot of activity.
But looking at the evidence that we captured, my hunch is we're dealing with a female spirit.
The EVP sounds like a female .
Looks like a female in the photograph.
So I'm gonna meet with an expert, Ellen Baumler.
She knows a lot about the women that were incarcerated here at the prison.
We had taken several photographs in there And I'd like you to take a look at one of them.
- Okay.
- It looks like a female.
Oh, my goodness.
It definitely does.
There weren't that many female prisoners, at any given time in there, but I can think of several.
You know, one of them was Bessie Fisher in 1903.
Mattie Dames in 1913.
But probably Lucy Cornforth is the most tragic case that I've studied.
I have a picture of some of these women.
I have a picture of Lucy here.
She was very, very poor and she had an eight-year-old daughter.
Unfortunately, there was a neighborhood altercation, and the neighbors filed a complaint against her.
Lucy didn't understand the charges and, thought she was gonna go to prison for the rest of her life and decided that, the only thing she could do, really, would be to commit suicide.
- Okay.
- So she went to the store And bought some strychnine and she brought it home.
She told her eight-year-old daughter Mary Jane what she was gonna do, mixed it up in a tin cup.
And as she started to drink it, she had second thoughts.
- Mm hmm.
- Set it on the kitchen cabinet.
And her daughter raced up, seized the cup, and said, I wanna go, too, and drank the contents.
Lucy was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
It really was a tragic accident, but the Judge sentenced her to life in prison.
If you take a look at that, you can actually see some similarities in that photo of Lucy.
Look at the hairstyle, and the features, look a little bit the same as Lucy.
Yep.
That's really pretty amazing.
Think of the tragedy of what Lucy went through.
She lost her child.
All this resentment that Lucy had.
Can these things build up? Can they linger? Anything's possible.
I can't wait to get together with Julia and share some of this information.
Well, Julia, thanks for inviting us here to investigate.
And, I have to tell you, your buildings are very active.
We captured this EVP down in the tunnel area Jason and I were going through.
I'd like to play this for you now and I wanna see what you think of this.
Do you feel like you were wrongly convicted? Yes.
- It sounds like a female voice.
- Okay.
.
Wow.
So we had found out that, there were quite a few females that were incarcerated in here.
And there's one story that really stands out to me and that's the story of Lucy.
She was blamed for an accident that killed her eight-year-old daughter.
This woman was incarcerated for something she never even did.
And she ended up spending many, many years here.
While she may not have been completely innocent Her sentence was very severe.
I'd like to show you something that was captured, in that corner cell in that back area.
Okay.
- Seriously? - Yes.
- Wow.
- To me it looks like it's female.
Now what I think is happening Lucy was reaching out to you to make that mother connection.
Tell me.
I need to know what you're feeling.
Well, overwhelmed.
You know, when I first came out here, ahem, the sense I got in maximum security was, like, such a sadness.
I just I never connected the dots after that.
At this point in time, I have to actually tell you, between the different items I can't pinpoint one thing in this prison, but I can help you.
Okay.
What we have here is the photograph of Lucy.
Oh, my gosh.
And what I'm hoping is that the prison and you Will put this in a place of honor to recognize her, for what she endured and bring some peace, to her now in the spirit realm.
All right.
You can almost see the pain in Lucy's eyes when you looked at her picture.
It was really emotional.
I could understand Lucy's sadness because you just You love your kids more than life itself.
- Thank you, John.
- Okay, sweetheart.
- Thank you so much.
- Thank you.
Hey, John.
My name is Travis.
I bought this historical property in Butte, Montana.
This building used to operate as a Brothel, and our plans are to renovate it into a hotel.
But the more work we do, the more paranormal activity we are experiencing.
I was cleaning on the main floor and I felt a hand on my back, and it really startled me.
In one of the rooms in the basement, a mirror completely flew off the wall.
And I'm worried about somebody getting hurt.
John, we're terrified and we need your help.
So what'd you guys find out about any history around here? What's interesting about the Dumas Brothel, is that it's actually the longest-running Brothel in North American history.
We did find out that it did open in 1890.
And stayed open for almost 100 years.
Also, copper mining was huge in Butte.
The miners would leave the mines, go straight to the Brothel So the prostitutes usually worked in three shifts, just like the miners did.
Can you imagine what this was like in the 1890s? It was a very hostile environment.
So we're gonna go in there and find out what exactly happened in that building.
Okay, guys, Aimee and I are gonna go in and meet with Travis.
Chris, Brian, get the equipment ready.
Jess, Jason, see what else you can find out from other witnesses, okay? - All right.
- Sounds good.
- Hey, Travis.
John Zaffis.
- Hey, John.
- This is my daughter Aimee.
- Hi.
- Why don't you come on in? - All right.
Welcome to the Dumas Brothel.
I'm gonna take you up to where we have had a lot of paranormal activity.
This is the Madam's Suite.
There was a madam in 1953 that died in the Brothel here, and we don't know if it was murder.
And ever since then, there has been sightings frequently A woman pacing the hallway.
I have felt her presence personally and it's pretty disturbing, seeing somebody walk by when you know you're the only one in the building.
This mirror just flew off the wall.
June 7th was an incredible tragedy.
Absolutely ungodly horrifying.
[Bleep.]
.
Hey, guys, did something just move? Hey, Brian, look at the shadow.
You gotta check this out.
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- Jesus [Bleep.]
! Butte, used to have a huge red-light district.
And this is the last building of all of them.
But the more we start repairing it, the activity just keeps getting stronger and stronger and stronger.
I've got an item here.
Here's this mask we found as we were going through the building.
Either the working girls or the Johns that would come in would wear it.
Putting on a costume It almost allows you to be whoever you want to be at the moment.
Hide their identity, do things that you wouldn't normally do.
Have you had any other people up in this area that have had experiences? Yeah.
Our friend Kathleen has also witnessed apparitions in the building.
So I understand you've had a few experiences here in the Brothel.
I was up on this floor and I took a look and There was a woman dressed in clothing from about the 1930s-1940s.
And when I reached up to find out what was going on and poke at her, she disappeared.
It was frightening and it was unnerving.
And I had the feeling of overwhelming Despair.
Well, we're down in the basement where there is, the most activity out of the entire building.
This is one of the smaller rooms and they were mainly for, the mining clientele or the lower class.
There's this mirror that one day just flew off the wall And landed halfway across the room face up.
Was it pretty much intact? Is that how you had found it? Yeah.
This is how it's been since it came off of the wall.
There's a lot of superstitions with mirrors.
Mirrors have been used for conjuring and, energy can remain with them for many, many years.
We're continually finding new things every day.
There is a lot of bottles that we have found.
I'm not too familiar with this drug, but it makes you wonder what was going on within these walls.
This is something we'll have to look into.
Well, Travis, you got a lot going on here.
I'm gonna bring the team in here, so we'll do all we can to help you out with this one.
Thank you so much.
There's a lot of reported activity to dig into here.
So tonight, I will be focusing on the downstairs area with Brian.
While Aimee and Jason take the basement.
And Chris and Jesslyn will check out the madam's room.
Let's start with a general EMF sweep.
I'm not getting any EMF in this room.
There actually was one item in here.
- Which one? Yeah, this one.
- Mm hmm.
Get anything? No.
Nothing.
So I guess wherever you feel like checking out is where we'll start.
Let's head down the other end there.
Holy [Bleep.]
, Brian.
Hey, look at the shadow.
- Over in the corner.
- Yes! - I don't see it now.
- I agree.
Okay, it's gone now.
- Come on.
- I'm feeling a little weird about this.
I mean, it wasn't a very large shadow figure, but it was there Over here.
For the most part, I'm not getting any abnormal readings.
Well, that died out pretty quick, kiddo.
I had looked up on the balcony there and I'd seen a little shadow form.
Was that something paranormal? I'm not sure right now, but we have to dig in and find out.
- Yeah, let's start down here.
- Okay.
- What, what, what? What? - I don't know.
What? - Did you feel like somebody was behind us? - Mm hmm.
- Okay.
- That's so weird.
What are these bottles right here? Just bottles.
They've been finding stuff as they're renovating.
- Opium? Huh.
- Mm hmm.
Laudanum.
How interesting.
Oh, wow.
- Holy crap.
- What is all this stuff? I have no idea.
There's so much stuff in here.
That's really old.
Ugh.
This is like uh, old drawings.
This is some kind of envelope.
- 1917.
- That's what it says? - Mm hmm.
- No way.
- June 7th, 1917.
- June 7th, 1917.
Dear Sarah, I love you.
I will what? I will quit the line soon.
I will get you out of the Dumas.
We will start anew.
I love you, J.
Wow.
So Sarah must have been who worked here.
This is her room maybe.
So tomorrow we gotta find out - If there was a Sarah here.
- That's crazy.
And find out who J might be.
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- Jesus [Bleep.]
! So tomorrow we gotta find out - If there was a Sarah here.
- That's crazy.
And find out who J might be.
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- Jesus [Bleep.]
! - Sorry, sorry, sorry.
- What the heck is that? - Ooh - Was that? That sounded like the bed was shaking, right? Right when Jason and I found the letter, the bed in the room started shaking like crazy.
It scared the crap out of us and we have no idea what could've caused it.
I think you should probably call your dad.
All right.
- What do you got? - You gotta check this out.
- We just pulled this out of the drawer.
- Okay.
It's dated 1917, first of all.
It's a love letter.
Immediately after we read that, no joke, the bed started shaking.
It's addressed to Sarah.
So I'm thinking maybe this was her room.
- That was the girl that worked here.
- Sarah? - Mm hmm.
- Okay.
That's very interesting.
You know, I want you two to dig in tomorrow.
Let's see what we can find out by tomorrow night's investigation.
Given the fact that we found this letter last night during the investigation, and it mentioned a miner, Aimee and I are gonna go meet with Chris Fisk.
He's a local historian who knows a lot about mining in the area.
We're doing an investigation at the Dumas Brothel here in Butte.
We found this letter.
You know, the thing that strikes me right off the bat - It's when it was written - What do you mean? June 7th, 1917.
The day after this letter was written Was an incredible tragedy for this community.
Largest hard rock mining disaster in the history of The United States.
On the morning of June 8th, they were in the process of putting electrical cables down inside the tunnels.
One of the larger electrical cables had come loose.
Their light source was carbide light that sat on their helmets.
- So it's an open flame? - It is.
It's an open flame.
- It had touched it.
- God.
And the second that it hit that, it just took off.
Before all was said and done, you had 168 dead miners.
Geez.
Absolutely ungodly horrifying.
In the letter, J says that he's gonna quit the mine and he's gonna take her out of the Brothel.
- Was that common? - I think it was very common.
A lot of the gentlemen that had come here were single males.
I think a lot of them felt that they could get solace in the red-light district.
And the Dumas Brothel was one of the highlights for those places to go.
One day following this letter, this gal's life Prostitute or not was probably changed forever.
How did the tragedy of this mining accident affect the girls at this Brothel? If relationships were formed then shattered by this disaster That pain may still linger even after death.
Tonight, I'm hoping to find some answers.
Jess and Brian will investigate the first floor.
Jason will man the monitors.
And Chris and I will cover the basement.
All right, well, when John and I were in here last night, up there Is where we saw this shadow form.
Up in the top left.
I moved over here to try to get closer to it.
Some of it could be light play.
- Cars driving by.
- Normally, I would be down with that.
I'd totally be on board with that theory.
- It was stationary.
- Okay.
So a car moving by would have light, but there was no light.
It was almost like you were looking into darkness and then you saw a deeper shadow.
I wanna go check out the madam's room.
- I wanna try the Ovilus in here.
- I like the Ovilus.
The Ovilus is a very interesting piece of equipment.
It measures the energy in the room and it actually converts it into words based on a dictionary that is built into the device.
System ready.
I feel like something was looking down at me last night from the balcony.
Were those the girls? Was that you? Do you know who that was? - Cry.
- Cry.
Did something happen to you? Pain.
.
Is it James.
The letter is signed J.
I'm wondering if this was Sarah's room.
I wanna try a couple of experiments in here.
If this was her room, I wanna see if this ties in in any way, shape, or form.
So what I'm going to do is put that letter right in the middle of this.
- Just to see.
I'm just curious.
- All right.
I'm using this as a trigger item.
- Do an EVP session? - Yeah.
Sarah, was this your room? Did this letter mean a lot to you? Were you here waiting for someone to come get you? We're just here trying to help you, and Travis is just trying - To preserve history - Shh, shh.
What? I just heard something.
I just heard a woman's voice.
Hold on.
We're just here trying to help you.
.
"Wait".
It was, like, right next to my head.
- That was really creepy.
- Wait for what? Waiting for your boyfriend to come back? [Bleep.]
! What the hell was that? Wait for what? Waiting for your boyfriend to come back? [Bleep.]
! What the hell was that? Hey, guys, did something just move on the cabinet behind you? Yeah, man.
This little bottle kinda fell over over here.
Yeah, I didn't see you bump it or anything.
No, we weren't even near the dresser.
All right.
Copy that.
- Why did that fall over? - I don't know.
Opium.
I'm not quite sure about it, but I'm sure the hell gonna find out.
I need to find out about this bottle.
It has alcohol written on it.
Has opium on it.
I called out a local licensed drug counselor, to see what he could tell me about this bottle and what it was used for.
Nice.
I haven't seen these outside of a museum.
Laudanum.
Laudanum was a very popular drug in the 1800s and 1900s for pain control, cough.
They even gave it to babies for teething pain.
One of the most common things that it was, given to women for was actually for menstrual cramps.
They even used it for abortions.
They'd drink enough to where, they would hopefully abort their child and not overdose and die.
- Mostly working girls.
- Wow.
So if someone's trying to commit suicide, that would be a good substance to take? Yeah.
It was a quiet way of doing it.
You didn't have to let anybody know.
It's really private.
Now, what would be considered a lethal dose? As little as three teaspoons - Wow.
- Could kill a person.
That's how easy it is to overdose on this med.
We find this bottle in this area, we find this letter, learning about Sarah.
Could it be that she's actually reaching out, trying to make some type of a connection? I'm looking forward to getting to Travis, and sharing some of this information with him.
Trav, good to see you again, buddy.
Got quite a bit to share with you.
On the first night that we were in investigating.
Jason and Aimee were down here.
I'd like to show you this letter that they stumbled upon here.
What we thought was significant about the letter, was that it seemed to be from a miner to one of the girls that worked here.
The date on the letter is June 7th, 1917.
And what we learned is that on June 8th, 1917, there was a major explosion in the mines, here in Butte and 168 miners died And several of the deceased have the letter J, that started their first names.
The letter is to Sarah who we assume is a girl that worked here From J who was a miner.
I think it's a possibility.
We were able to capture an EVP that I'd like you to hear.
We're just here trying to help you.
Wait.
That's pretty clear.
.
Uh-huh.
Right now I'd like to show you a piece of footage that we captured, during our second night investigation in here.
I want you to take a look right up over here.
- Oh, wow.
- And it startled us.
Oh, my gosh.
Laudanum was very popular during the 1800s and 1900s.
It was very potent and because of its high opium content, it was used medicinally and for abortion.
And it wasn't uncommon for it to be used in suicides.
Overdose could happen with as little as three teaspoons.
So what I feel can be happening here is that Sarah fell in love with one of the miners.
He basically made a commitment to her to marry her and to take her away from here.
But is he one of them that was killed in that huge explosion? Did Sarah actually take some of this to end her life? Travis, we're never gonna know, but you're reopening this whole area down here.
And sometimes you're gonna activate old dormant energy that could be sitting for quite some time.
The bottle that is what could've possibly killed her.
And it has a lot of negative energy associated with it.
So what would you like to do? I would love for you to take the bottle and I hope that we can bring some closure to Sarah and hopefully her deceased loved one.
Okay.
Sarah's tormented spirit may still linger here, but I'm hoping that acknowledging her pain will help her find closure.
And she can pass on and join her lover for all eternity.
