Wonder Woman (1976) s03e05 Episode Script

Disco Devil

Some of you been Wondering Why they call me Infra Red.
Well, you see, it's light and I'm into light.
The Whole human cosmic experience, yes, indeed.
Infrared is also invincible and that's sort of like I am up here.
Yes, indeed.
You understand? I tell you.
Also, if you use too much of it, you burn, baby, burn! He's pretty good.
Don't sell yourself short.
I've got a feeling there's more to you than meets the eye.
Kathy, Anthony! You're becoming quite a regular here, I see.
It's only my second time in, Angelique.
This is still pretty fast company for a mundane engineer like me.
Nonsense.
Every group needs new blood every now and then.
Enjoy your evening.
Angelique keeps a few rooms in back for the entertainment of her more special customers.
You interested? Kathy? Don't worry about her, Tony, she's fine.
How did you know my name? Relax, man.
I want to talk to you about your work.
Let me take some of that load off your mind, Tony.
All the secrets that are making you so uptight.
We've taken every precaution.
The base has been evacuated we do have nuclear shielding.
Your fail-safe engineer is the only one who can deactivate the bomb? It's an experimental model.
Borden is the only person in 100 miles who can handle it.
That's fine, but where is he? He'll be here any minute.
He'd better be, Colonel, or your camp could wind up glowing in the dark for the next 500 years.
The smaller one, that's the detonator? Yes, it's the prototype model designed to shoot a stream of supercharged ions to the bomb chamber.
We hope to use it for remote triggering of nuclear missiles at a range of 50 miles or more.
Lovely.
Death by long distance.
Colonel! How long till detonation? - Got less than two minutes.
- You don't give a man much time, do you? Borden's the best nuclear engineer on the East Coast.
He knows this particular detonator inside out.
I've located the trouble.
For some reason, it's scrambling all incoming commands to disarm.
It'll respond to the master code, won't it? It should.
As long as it's fed in the proper sequence.
So feed it in, man! That's what you're here for! Take it easy, the sequence has to be right.
Twenty-four thirty-two? No! Thirty three! - Borden, will you feed in that code? - Give me a minute! We haven't got a minute! I can't remember.
I don't know what's the matter with me.
I just can't remember.
I suggest we head for that shielding.
Gentlemen, inside.
Move it! What's wrong with you? If it wasn't for Wonder Woman, we would've been killed! - It's gone, all gone.
- What is all gone? The code, the numbers, everything that mattered.
It's gone from my mind! I can't remember anything.
The sequence I knew it as well as my own name.
No! Go on, Nick.
The buyer for this tape is waiting.
lonic field density varies with the relative distance between the bomb chamber and detonator becoming ineffectual at a distance of 1.
2 kilometers.
You did say I had tonight off, didn't you? Tomorrow night.
Maybe.
Tonight, one of my guests is a man who designs military satellites.
There's a lot of money at stake.
We must entertain him properly.
Okay.
I'll probe his mind, then I'll split.
I've a life of my own to lead.
Oh, I know.
The detonator uses radio signals at the following frequencies.
Not only was the classified data gone but the doctors say Borden cannot remember one thing that happened in the past 24 hours.
- That's a pretty selective case of amnesia.
- No drugs found in his bloodstream.
No evidence of surgery or brainwashing.
It's as though someone just - lifted the memories right out of his mind.
- Yeah, but it's possible.
You mean telepathy? Something like that? We can't discount it.
Ira's been collecting data on paranormal research.
It's a pet project of his.
He's trying to find evidence that human beings have greater potential than what we've demonstrated so far.
We aren't sterling examples of the human condition? Hard to believe, isn't it? You may be interested in a call I received from some friends of mine at the naval hospital.
It seems that Anthony Borden was admitted this morning suffering from a particularly baffling kind of amnesia.
- Is that right? - Yes.
Seems that he's unable to remember a thing that happened to him in the last 24 hours.
So? So, my little disco devil it would seem that somebody had botched his job, wouldn't it? - I got the information, didn't I? - That's very true.
And that's all you were supposed to steal from his mind.
The information.
You weren't supposed to wipe out 24 hours.
I did the job.
So who cares? The IADC cares.
One of their agents, Diana Prince, brought Borden to the hospital.
So what? They're not going to get anything out of him.
All the evidence is in my head.
You worry too much, Angie.
Don't you ever call me that name again.
Pardon me.
Angelique.
I want you to follow the Prince woman.
Find out what she knows.
Keep a discreet distance.
Sure.
I can get behind that.
Statistics shoW that most paranormal abilities are mental, not physical.
Telepathy, telekinesis, astral projection.
What about the ability to remove memories from someone's mind? Memory transfer is far more rare but not unknoWn.
Please examine photos 3A of the four memory telepaths discovered at the Virginia Institute for Paranormal Research.
Only tWo, 3A, 7F possess psychic poWers capable of lea ving an amnesiac void like you describe.
Nicholas Carbone and Del Franklin.
Do you have a location on these two? Nicholas Carbone Was reported killed in a gang War tWo years ago.
Delbert Franklin Works for the Inter-City Trucking Company in Washington.
- You think he's our man? - Negative.
I doubt that someone Who steals classified data Would ha ve been employed as a fry cook, a taxi driver, a sales clerk and a sanitary engineer for the Arlington public zoo, all in the last year alone.
Well, hopefully, he'll stay employed at the trucking company long enough for me to check him out.
Thank you, Ira, good night.
Del Franklin? He works here.
What did he do this time? Nothing, Mr.
Taylor, I just want to talk to him.
Come on, what did he do, run over the Secretary of State? No, I just want to speak to him.
Thank you.
Hey! Franklin! Yes? Somebody here to see you! Park that rig and come over here! Franklin, your truck! Three months on the job and you still don't know how to brake a truck? I'm sorry, Mr.
Taylor.
It'll never happen again.
You said that when you dropped the oranges on the Maryland Parkway and when you rear-ended the owner's car with your car! I'm sick of hearing you say that, Franklin! You're through.
You pick your check up on the way out.
Mr.
Franklin? Yeah, you from the insurance company? No, I'm Diana Prince, I'm from the IADC, and I would like to talk to you.
Sure.
Like the man said, I'm not exactly on a tight schedule.
This is the fifth straight job you've lost? What's wrong? I don't know.
They say that I can't focus on my work.
I don't focus on my energy, whatever that means.
If they knew what my real problem was they'd freak! Your psychic abilities? You know? That's why I'm here.
Well, I guess you think like everybody else does at the Institute that I'm this lucky guy.
You got to think again.
How can I live with my conscience knowing that I can steal bits and pieces of peoples' lives? Seems to me that you could put your powers to good use somehow.
You think so? Let me give you a demonstration.
Think of someone you know, a friend, co-worker, anybody.
Okay.
I want you to think of their face I want you to think of their voice where they work how they walk.
Who did you think of? I can't remember.
Well, I can.
His name is Steve Trevor.
He's your boss at the IADC.
He is tall, he has dark hair, he's built like a football player and he has his office next to yours, and I hate him already.
You lifted that entire memory right from my mind.
That's right, Miss Prince.
I stole a piece of your life.
It might've been only a second, but what right do I have to do that? - Are you interested in a job? - Yeah.
What kind? It's an investigation.
It could be dangerous.
What do I have to lose but another job? Good.
First, I want you to call me Diana and, secondly, I want you to report tomorrow morning at the IADC at 9:00 a.
m.
In the meantime, if you have any questions that's my home phone number and address.
- Okay? - Okay.
Del? Are you okay? The weirdest flash just went through my mind.
Are you a member of the bomb squad of the IADC? Of course not.
Sometimes it seems that way, but I'll see you tomorrow at 9:00.
- Okay? - Right.
The guy's a real klutz.
I can't figure out what she'd want with a guy like that.
His name is Franklin.
Del Franklin.
- Did you say Del Franklin? - Yeah.
You know him? Yeah.
We both tested at that cheesy institute together.
He's a paranormal? - Yeah.
- What's his talent? Same as mine but not as strong, undeveloped.
Could he pose a threat to us? He might be able to turn up something in Borden's mind probe his subconscious, maybe.
All right, can you handle him if we get him here tonight? - Ain't no one I can't handle.
- As for the Prince woman we can't exactly invite her to the Styx, too.
The wisest move would be to eliminate her straight away.
Don't you think, Lance? Excuse me, sir.
Could you give me a hand? It made this terrible gasping noise, then it died.
Could you take look? I don't really know much about all that.
Please.
Just one look.
Just try.
Well, let's see looks like the engine, all right.
Maybe if you just fiddled around with it a little bit.
- Maybe if I- - Don't touch that! I mean it just looked really dangerous to me.
What about that thingamajig down there? - This, you mean the spark plug? - Spark plugs.
It was loose.
There you go.
- Can I try it? - Give it a go! Thank you, really, a lot.
- I don't know how to repay you.
- You don't have to at all.
I know! Are you busy tonight? No! I work at the Styx, it's a very exclusive disco.
You might have heard of it.
I'd love for you to come as my guest, then later we could go for a drink? My name's Kathy.
Here you go.
Just ask for me at the door.
I don't know your name.
I'm Del.
Del Franklin.
- Then I'll see you tonight? - Great! Maybe my luck is changing.
Just loosen up.
Just go where your feet take you.
Come on.
There you go.
I don't know about you, Steve, but I'm packing it in for the night.
Steve! How do you like that.
All this devotion to duty and no one around to appreciate it.
Now you know, just do some of this.
Some of what? - Just turn around.
- Now watch this.
Ready, set I really am sorry! I hope I didn't wrinkle your shirt? I'll wrinkle your face if you don't stop jumping all over the floor.
Were you dancing or having a spasm? Let's sit this one out.
We get guys like that all the time in here.
Really unmellow.
Don't let it get you down.
I don't belong here.
I don't know where I really do belong, but I know one thing, it's not in here.
Listen, there are a few quiet rooms in the back, maybe you and I could You've got better things to do than listen to me.
- What are you doing? - I'm gonna leave now.
Thanks for inviting me, and you're really a very nice girl but I'm sorry, I'm just no fun.
But wait! - Where is he going? - He walked out on me.
I can't believe it! He walked out on me! Well, he's got taste, I'll give him that.
Get him back.
Preferably in one piece.
Good evening, Miss Prince.
Del, what are you doing here? Some clown tried to force me off the road, then he ran into a fire hydrant I just hightailed it over here.
I didn't know where else to go.
Well, I've run into a small problem of my own! - What are you doing here? - Long story.
I got to take him back.
So take him.
I'll finish my business with her.
Let's go, lady.
I need a car.
Mine died getting here.
Take my car.
It's in the parking garage across the street.
And wait for me.
This won't take very long.
Come on, Mr.
Franklin, nobody's going to hurt you.
You, you're a different story.
Let's go.
I get car sick if I sit in the passenger seat.
Shut up.
Keep moving.
Do you mind if I ask you a question? Like, who do I work for, what do I do, that kind of thing? - No.
Where do you buy your shirts? - You're a very funny lady.
Too bad the world will be losing such dry wit.
You're going to kill me without even telling me why? That's not very fair.
Few things in life are.
My associate will be here in a minute.
You don't mind waiting, do you? The question is, do you? Del, get out.
Go after them! - No, it's all right.
- But they just killed Diana.
She's fine.
She's the one who sent me here.
The important thing is they didn't get to you.
What do they want me for? Why am I so popular all of a sudden? Obviously, someone doesn't want you to help the IADC in its investigation.
Diana said this was going to be dangerous.
I almost lost this job without even having to report for work.
Which is why the IADC had better make some special arrangements for you.
Ritzy little place, isn't it? It's not much, but at least you'll be safe here.
We've got two men in the lobby, - I didn't see anybody.
- You weren't supposed to.
How long do I have to stay in here? As long as it takes to clear this up.
You can help us by checking someone out.
Seems like top secret information has just vanished from his mind.
I'll bring him by in the morning.
That means Diana might be here? Afraid not.
It looks like whoever's after you found out about you through her.
She thought it best if I didn't tell her where you were being guarded.
You mean imprisoned.
I send you out to get one woman and one dummy and you come back with your tails between your legs.
The IADC has this Franklin person in protective custody by now.
Any ideas how we're going to get him out? I've got one.
We start doing things my way.
Think of somebody that neither of us could possibly know.
Think of a face their voice their walk.
brunette green eyes.
I think her name is Colleen.
That's my fiancée! Looks like we've got another believer.
All right, Mr.
Borden, I want you to relax.
Let me in deeper.
What's wrong, what did you see? Nick Carbone.
The other telepath? Diana said he was killed.
Probably what he wanted people to think.
Colonel, I think we've got our answer.
Here it is.
The Styx.
Its owner is a wealthy socialite named Angelique McKenna.
It's become a sort of Watering hole for Washington bigWigs.
Providing them access to government officials, from whom Nick Carbone rips off classified data.
Perfect cover.
Who'd suspect a disco fronting for a black market information broker? I say we get a warrant and turn this over to the police.
Just a second, Diana.
This is all still speculation.
To get a warrant, we have to have evidence for a judge.
What are we going to present: Del? You're right.
Telepathy isn't exactly admissible in court, is it? You should talk this over with John Wright in the Attorney General's office.
I'll talk to you When you get back.
Are you still here? I thought you said you'd have Franklin taken care of by noon.
It's only 11:30.
Nick.
Let's go.
Besides, my chauffeur was late.
Good morning.
I'd like to see Diana Prince, please.
I'm sorry, she's not in.
May I take a message? No, it's fairly important.
Who's her immediate supervisor? I'm sorry, I can't give you that information.
Well Nice meeting you.
Too bad you won't remember it.
Excuse me, can you - Col.
Trevor? - Yes.
I'm from Gen.
Markessen's office.
I have some documents for you.
Documents? I wasn't expecting a delivery.
There's been a mistake.
These weren't intended for me.
Maybe they were meant for Mr.
Franklin.
Mr.
Del Franklin.
- Just who are you, anyway? - Just relax.
At least you'll be safe here.
We've got tWo men in the lobby, 24 hours a day.
They got him stashed in some sleazy little place downtown.
You go up and get Franklin, and I'll take care of the two agents in the lobby.
Why don't you get Franklin and I take care of the guys in the lobby? Or maybe you don't want to meet this Franklin guy for some reason? You're real stupid, you know that, Lance boy? Real stupid.
Now shut up and drive.
I'm back.
Wait till you hear what the Attorney General's office said.
- About what? - About Del.
Del who? What do you mean, Del who? The guy you've got under lock and key.
Diana, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh, come on, Steve, you're the one who Oh, no.
Are you sure this is the right number? If what you say is true, and there's someone in our safe house you didn't know about, that's the number.
He's not there.
Good afternoon, Mr.
Franklin.
Welcome back.
Where's Nick? He isn't here? He took care of the IADC agents, then split.
Told me he'd be here.
How odd.
Almost as if he didn't want to face Mr.
Franklin.
I'm the kind of man that likes to be prepared.
Can somebody tell me what's going on around here? You can prepare by saying a few words a few last words.
Same old Franklin.
Still working those grubby little jobs, and still messing up.
I always knew you'd end up in a place like this.
You never cared what you took or who you hurt.
What about you, Del? You like living in those dives? Driving those beat-up old cars? You like being alone? You like being broke, and too scared to use the one thing you got that's special.
I want him killed.
Now.
What's the hurry? Maybe he can be of some use to us.
You don't need him.
You've got me.
He's nothing.
He's a klutz.
What are you afraid of? Someone's going to take away this empty little kingdom of yours? You want him dead so bad, do the job yourself.
I leave the menial labor to you, Lance.
I'll be back tonight and I expect him to be disposed of.
Just a minute, Moreno! Since when do you give the orders here? Since now, lady.
And you'd better get used to it.
I want Nick eliminated today.
Every minute that he lives, we're in danger.
Take Mr.
Franklin downstairs.
Give him suitable accommodations.
Treat him like one of the family.
Which is what he's going to be.
The guards at the safe house don't remember a thing.
Nick must've gotten to them, too.
About all we can do is report Del missing.
I'll bet anything that he's at the Styx.
We send the police over there, and Del's likely to wind up dead.
- Looks like I got a big night ahead of me.
- You're going undercover? I'm going dancing.
Hello, Lance boy! I Want Nick eliminated today.
Every minute that he's alive, We're in danger.
Take Mr.
Franklin doWnstairs.
Give him suitable accommodations.
Treat him like one of the family.
Which is What he's going to be.
You lousy little punk, you.
I could take so much out of your mind you wouldn't know what to do with a pacifier let alone a gun.
What's three plus two, Lance boy? - Hey, you're quite a number.
- Yes.
Unlisted.
I like that.
Want to dance? That's what I'm here for.
Dinner.
I can't.
I just can't.
May I? - What's the matter? What're you afraid of? - Nothing.
The way you shrink from my touch, you'd think I was going to hurt you.
I couldn't hurt you, could I, Angie? Maybe I'll just wipe out a year of your life? Leave you stranded in time? I'm tired, Nick.
I want- Maybe I'll take you back to a quieter time.
Adolescence, infancy, childhood.
I'll make a nice, calm, quiet little No worries.
No fears.
- That's almost what happened to Lance.
- Don't hurt me, Nick, please.
You should've thought of that, baby, before you tried to have me killed.
Del! Wonder Woman! We've got to stop meeting like this.
Come on.
I'll take care of him.
- Going somewhere, Nick? - Stay away from me, you little creep! I scare you, don't I? That's what they said at the Institute.
Get lost, man.
That if we ever used our power over each other, we'd cancel each other out.
You're scared that I can take away the one thing that makes you the big man.
Just leave me alone.
I won't do anything to hurt anybody, I swear.
I've felt like a freak for as long as I can remember.
You think I'm going to blow the one chance I've got to become human? You're nuts.
- I'll take care of her.
- Put that away.
You can't use that here.
What do you want me to do, throw records at her? I don't care if you have to drown her in club soda, just get her! Hey, baby, you're good.
You want to boogie? - Not right now, thanks.
- I'm not into negative emotions.
- I don't recognize the word "no.
" - Maybe it's time you started.
Leaving so soon? Here, now.
You stay.
Somebody will be by to take your order.
- Are you all right? - I'm fine.
I think for the first time in my life, I'm fine.
And so is he, except I just don't think he realizes it yet.
- Well, I think someone, probably- - Hey, baby! I've been disco-hopping for years.
I've never seen anything like you.
I got this great little place over in Woodburn Well, it appears that the effects of your psychic powers are only temporary.
Seems that Borden and the others are slowly regaining the memories - that were taken from them.
- My ex-psychic powers.
Me and Nick are now normal people.
Nick took it kind of hard.
It must be quite a shock learning to live without a talent you've depended on all your life.
It is, but now that it's over I can see that my power was never part of my problem.
It was more of a convenient excuse.
What do you mean? I never really liked myself much before.
When I was trying to get away from Norman, and I had to choose between being like Nick, just for that moment, or being me I chose me.
Del, I think you made an excellent choice.
- It's all right, Diana, really.
- I'm sorry, it was silly of me.
So whatever deep, dark secret of yours I picked up from before is safe.
Forever.
You probably would have been disappointed anyway.
