The A-Team (1983) s03e07 Episode Script

Trouble on Wheels

(Hoyt) You're gonna forget about what you've seen at the plant.
They've got men working in every department forcing them to steal new car parts.
Yeah, and then they wholesale them out to car dealers and auto parts stores, right? We've got one big problem.
Can l help you with anything? We call him Mayhem.
All right.
You want a war? We'll give you a war.
Suit yourself.
Nobody sticks his hand into my candy jar and gets away with it.
Okay.
You guys ready? Ready, Hannibal.
Well, l had to look the part.
l didn't want to get picked up for car theft.
(guard) You're under arrest for grand theft.
This is an emergency.
for a while.
lt's going to get hairy around here.
He's gonna get us killed! We really outdid ourselves this time.
(male narrator) In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.
These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground.
Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune.
If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them maybe you can hire the A-Team.
[gun firing.]
[car door closes.]
[engine revving.]
[tires screeching.]
(Hoyt) We've been keeping an eye on you, Rudy.
You've been real busy.
We did this little search found this notebook in your locker.
lt says that you're gonna tell a lot of people about what's been goin' on at the auto plant.
[sighs.]
(Rudy) l got nothing to say.
Well, Rudy, you and l see things differently.
You see, l think you got a lot to say.
Like saying you're gonna forget about what you've seen at the plant.
l'm the foreman.
l know what you're doing with the workers.
l know what you did with Charlie was no accident.
Charlie never learned to look the other way.
Now he's dead.
Now he's looking the other way.
[all laughing.]
You see what happens? You take an ex-con like Rudy here you make him a foreman, suddenly he thinks he's too good for us.
Probably thinks we're scum.
[all chuckle.]
Maybe we are.
[groans.]
l want no part of this.
Rudy, Rudy.
And you got a pretty wife.
l've seen her.
Seen her and the kid when they come to pick you up after work sometimes.
That's a cute little girl you got there, too.
What's her name? God help you if you put one finger on her.
Rudy, it's up to you.
You just back off, be a good little worker, and nobody gets hurt.
And just to make sure that you understand that very clearly.
[groans.]
[siren wailing.]
See your driver's license and registration, please? Yes, sir.
Here you go.
You're Mr.
Rudy Garcia? Yes, sir.
And is this your current address? That's right.
And where are you employed, Mr.
Garcia? At the National Auto Plant in Van Nuys.
You failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign back there on Elm Street.
l never noticed that sign there before.
Yeah.
That's what most people say.
Of course, it could be taken care of, if you know what l mean? l'd rather take the ticket.
Suit yourself.
lf you'd sign here, please? l don't believe it.
l like an honest man, Mr.
Garcia.
Follow us.
So they killed this guy in a two ton metal press? lt was so clean no one could tell it was anything but an accident.
l mean, these guys are real careful, and l don't know who they are.
l've never seen them before.
But l do know that they've got men working in every department forcing them to steal new car parts that are supposed to go into the cars.
Yeah and then they wholesale them out to car dealers and auto parts stores, right? Clever.
l did some time in jail on a big mistake l made once.
Now l'm trying to clean up my act.
So, when l heard what was going on l gathered evidence, but these guys were right on me.
They threatened my wife and my kid, unless l looked the other way.
And they got the other workers so scared especially after Charlie's accident.
l don't like it.
These are hardworking men who are just trying to earn an honest living.
We have to get jobs inside your plant and work undercover to find out who these guys are.
l do the hiring in my department.
l can get a couple of you guys inside.
l like that.
lt'd be just like James Bond.
Super-sleuthing and moving through the shadows.
But it isn't going to be cheap to pull this off, Hannibal.
That's why l took up a collection with the guys from the plant.
Now they're too scared to talk.
They just want this thing to stop.
Listen, the workers are honest men with families to support.
They want the nightmare to end.
Now, we're willing to take up a collection every week until your debt is paid off.
Resourceful, l gotta admit.
l'll cover the outside.
A guy like me would look out of place on an assembly line.
And l don't have anything in my wardrobe to go with grease and grime.
That's all right, Face.
Murdock'll help you press your overalls.
Mr.
Garcia, you've just hired the A-Team.
Okay.
Good morning.
Good morning.
l have some union documents for you to fill out.
Follow me down over here.
We're going to put you on the metal presses.
l think it'll be a lot easier for you to pick up on.
Everyone seems to stick by themselves around here.
Like l said, the workers are scared.
They don't know who to trust.
B.
A.
, you wanna paint? No, man.
l'm working on the molding.
l'll let you paint for a quarter.
Shut up, fool! lt's real neat, B.
A.
You just let your body flow with the paint can.
Let flow with the spray can spreading a smooth and even coat over the surface that you're working on.
lf you don't shut up, l'm gonna smooth this here over you-- Look at that.
That's something else you can do with the paint can.
You can play games with it, just like we're doing now.
[horn honking.]
You wanna play a game? We can play paint, man.
Murdock'll be the paint man.
Murdock is a dead man! [honking.]
Well, well, well, isn't this nice? l'm glad to see the two of you can get along without getting into any trouble.
Ain't no trouble.
Just gonna wring his neck.
Save me, Face, man.
Look, B.
A.
, could you wait a day or two before putting Murdock out of his misery? We gotta get this warehouse into shape by tonight.
Speaking of in shape, man, what you wearing? This.
You like it? l found it in the trunk.
Well, l had to look the part.
l didn't want to get picked up for car theft.
lt sounds like it's making all kinds of funny noises.
(B.
A.
) Man, l don't understand.
l thought you was supposed to be getting a sign for the store.
B.
A.
, this is the sign.
(Face) ''Otto's Auto Parts Store.
'' Get it, Otto's Auto? You guys think it's easy getting an auto parts sign during a lunch break? Actually, l think it was pretty ingenious of me.
Now, do you think it'll fit on top of the roof? Yeah, l think it'll fit perfectly.
[whistle blowing.]
[thudding.]
Boy, it really looked like they wonked the old Colonel, didn't it? Yeah.
[tires screeching.]
Look out! [tires screeching.]
(B.
A.
) You okay, little brother? We lost them.
Well, he's on his own now.
(announcer) Dave Moore, please report to the used car lot.
Dave Moore, please report to the used car lot.
[children chattering.]
[drilling.]
[seagulls squawking.]
(Hoyt) We've been watching you for close to a week now.
You're a lousy thief.
But even if you were good, we don't allow anyone to come into our territory.
Who are you? l'll tell you when you can ask the questions.
Who do you work for? Nobody.
[Hoyt sighs.]
(Hoyt) Nobody carts off 1 2 cases of the same auto part unless he's got a large-scale buyer.
Now, who you selling to? The guy gives me You've just been put out of business.
You see, we own the auto plant.
We don't allow competition.
Anybody that works there works for us.
You understand? Now you go back, you tell your buyer that he's closed down.
You tell him that you work for somebody new now.
Anything you steal, you sell to us.
We want that message delivered very clear.
He's not gonna like it.
That's too bad.
Maybe you can help us convince him.
[gasping.]
You said they'd be tough, Hannibal, but we didn't expect this.
Yeah.
What did the doctor say? He said no concussion.
Take two aspirin and go to bed.
Sounds exactly what happened to me.
The blindfold, the bright lights and then the beating.
Yeah, l figured they might use the same MO.
But instead of beating up my face, they pounded on my kidneys.
lt's a good thing you had the watch, Colonel.
l know they had you in the van but l hope you was able to pick up some sounds.
l don't know, B.
A.
l was out cold.
(Face) Well, l gotta admit analyzing the sounds on that tape that's one of your best yet.
(Murdock) lt's brilliant.
He's absolutely brilliant.
(Hannibal) Well, we'll see.
When we got there, l think we wound up in a warehouse.
Sure, if they steal auto parts, they'd need a place to stash 'em.
Well, how long is it gonna take, B.
A.
? Well, as soon as l get my hands on these components it shouldn't take more than an hour.
A multi-switch digital regulator, one oscillator, O and G mode generator, AC current amplifier a bypass switch for sound readout with an electrical base relay on O and G, point 3 OC 18? Simple.
(B.
A.
) l hear a car agency.
A school yard.
Must be Parkman Elementary.
l got a beach here.
l hear some kind of construction.
(Face) There's a high rise going up on Wilshire.
(Hannibal) No, Face, that'd be over here.
Waves and kids.
Venice.
An airport.
Stretches all the way and stops here.
lt's an industrial park near the harbor.
There's a lot of warehouses in that area.
Okay, mount up.
Face, bring your camera.
We're gonna pay these guys a visit.
Rudy, you better take a vacation for a while.
lt's going to get hairy around here.
Hannibal l'd like to stick this out, if you don't mind.
Okay.
[camera clicking.]
(Hannibal) You got them all? Yeah, l got 'em.
Okay, you guys ready? Ready, Hannibal.
[tires screeching.]
[gun firing.]
[groaning.]
All right, up against the wall! Nice and easy.
Who are you? We can make a deal here.
(B.
A.
) Tell us who you work for! Get lost.
(Hannibal) The man asked you a question.
(Hoyt) l got nothin' to say.
We've got enough pictures of you to put you away for good.
There's no way that we're gonna tell you who we work for.
Okay.
Take the truck.
We gotta find out who those guys are.
(Hannibal) Keep up with Murdock, B.
A.
We'll stash the truck at the auto store.
Hannibal, we had 'em back there red-handed and you just let 'em go.
That's part of the plan, right? Right.
They're working for some big shot.
They'd rather go to jail than give his name.
He's gotta be a real heavyweight.
A real bad dude? Yeah.
We'll let them go and get 'em all together.
Well, let's go, B.
A.
We got some pictures to develop.
(Hoyt) l want you to tell me everything you know.
(Matt) l swear to you l know nothing.
l do my job and l keep my nose clean.
Hey, man, l got a family! Man, l don't want trouble.
Well, those guys had to be hired heat.
l'm going to find out who is doing all the talking.
You tell the workers l'm gonna take it out of their hides.
You understand me? Yeah, man.
What's going on here? Nothing.
Just teaching this guy a couple of lessons.
About, uh, how to drop a transmission.
[chuckles.]
Break was over a half hour ago.
Oh, yes sir, Mr.
Foreman.
Don't push it, Rudy.
You don't know who you're dealing with.
Get back to your department, Matt.
Hey.
Everything is busted up around here.
l said get back to work.
Tell the company they owe me a quarter.
Matt.
Matt.
Rudy why don't you just mind your business? What goes down in this plant is my business.
Now you know what's going down, half the work force not coming in.
Yeah, maybe.
But you butting in is just going to make matters worse.
Look, l know you want to help, Rudy.
But just leave matters alone, all right.
lt's better that way.
(Rudy) Yeah, l know who they are.
That's Hoyt Plummer.
Williams.
McCormick.
All three work in the engine department.
l just had a run-in with them.
Look, you know it's all starting to make sense.
l just wonder if we're doing the right thing here.
Rudy, whenever you stand up against slimeballs you're doing the right thing.
Now we know who they are.
All we got to do is keep our eye on them until they make a move.
Well, they pretty much keep to themselves although they do hang out a lot in the lunch room.
Yeah? The lunch room.
(Face) You see, l think the real problem here is wiring connections.
Yeah, that'll get you every time.
Usually, it's a loose connection or it's corrosion or it's.
You know, it'll run perfectly for a time and then all of a sudden zappo! Nothing.
(Bobby) Looks like break time is over guys.
You, too, pal.
Go work at another machine.
Oh, yeah.
Sure.
Right.
Well, l think it should work now anyway, you know.
See, the problem was a loose connection in the chute mechanism.
Grab your tools and get.
Oh, yeah, right.
l can tell you about this some other time.
(Hoyt) Sweep the area.
[beeping.]
How we doing? Clean.
Okay.
Well, we've got one big problem.
The guys who ripped us off have got to know a lot about our operation.
Trouble is we don't know who they are or how much they know.
What are we going to tell Jimmy Durkee? l mean, man.
He ain't going to take it too well, us getting ripped off.
l'm telling you.
The guys who ripped us off aren't auto workers.
lt's got to be someone inside.
Someone right here in this plant and we're going to find out who.
l'm calling Durkee.
Darn machine.
Hey, it dropped the wrong soda.
Hey.
You know, you didn't fix the machine.
Gave me the wrong soda.
Oh, it did? Right.
l'll get on it.
l'll go find my partner and get on it right away.
They found no bugs, sir.
Clean as a whistle.
You gave him the wrong soda.
Yes.
But it doesn't matter.
Because l got everything they said right up here.
And l made 50 cents to boot.
l don't know.
Four guys jump out with submachine guns what am l supposed to do? Ask 'em their names, where they live? (Jimmy) It was your job to keep everything clean, Hoyt.
You were supposed to see that everything ran smooth.
lnstead l got no truck and no supplies to deliver.
That's very bad for business, Hoyt.
l know, man.
l know.
All right, find out who did this to us.
Find them fast and get the stuff back.
Now you got all that? l got it, Jimmy.
Don't worry.
l'm on it.
We'll find them.
l swear to you.
What do you say, Hoyt? Couldn't help but overhear.
You like to talk about it? Who are you to ask me anything? Well, listen.
l might know what happened to that truck of yours last night.
Where is it? Where? Hey, man, you're wrinkling the threads.
l've got some information for ya.
You ought to better listen, huh.
All right, talk.
Well, l got a hunch my old boss Crazy Willy Beano ripped off your truck last night.
When l told him that l was leaving his outfit to go to work for you, he went nuts.
Said he was gonna put you out of business.
And Crazy Willy's crazy enough to try it.
Well, he don't know who he ripped off, man.
The guy l work for handles half the action in this state.
Nobody messes with him.
Sounds like the kind of guy that Crazy Willy would eat for breakfast.
Where is this guy? He's got an auto parts store over at Fourth and Central.
l'll show ya where it is.
No, you wait here with Lucas.
Me and Bobby Joe'll pay this guy a visit.
l think l really ought to come with ya.
ln case we're not back in an hour, this is some kind of a setup put this guy's head in a drill press.
Right.
Fine.
Don't mind if l get a soda, do you? Why not? (Hannibal) Face.
There's been a change in plans.
l'm staying here.
What did you tell them? What else.
l got a crazy boss.
(Face) Oh, great.
And you're not going to be there to give the performance.
Who we gonna use? Well, l told him he was crazy.
l am Crazy Willy Beano.
Beano, you know, rhymes with Dino.
What's the matter, you don't understand English? Dino.
[ Everybody loves somebody-- [[ What's the matter? You think l'm wearing a piece? l'm clean.
l'm running a business here.
Not a shooting gallery.
All right, we're going to make this nice and simple.
We either get our truck back, or we bury you underneath this store.
Forgive me for not laughing but l always find the baby's first step to be a very serious thing.
Nobody comes in here and threatens me under my own roof especially when l'm eating a tuna fish sandwich.
Smith said this guy was looney tunes.
Looney Tunes, huh? What other TV program do you watch regularly? All right, l don't know what your game is but we want that truck back.
The only thing that Crazy Willy ever gives back is trouble.
You mess around with one of my boys l rip off one of your trucks.
Fair is fair.
[knocking.]
Can l help you with anything? (Murdock) This is a friend of mine.
We call him Mayhem.
All right.
You want a war? We'll give you a war.
All right.
Red and you're dead.
Take one off the top.
lt's your lucky day.
You don't even get to bleed on the carpeting.
Now, you tell your friends l sell auto parts.
lf they want some they should come down here and see me.
l'll provide the lunch.
Nobody sticks his hand into my candy jar and gets away with it.
You're supposed to see to that.
Jimmy-- l don't need punks around me who can't handle things.
Jimmy, l'm telling you, that Crazy Willy is bananas.
He's liable to do anything.
No.
The only thing he is going to do is bleed.
You understand? Now, get these guys together and arm them.
We're going to move in on that auto store today.
And one more thing.
Grab that foreman who started all this trouble.
We're going to put him in the ground.
Mommy and l went shopping.
l got a doll.
No kidding.
(Rudy) Let's see what kind of a doll-- Get 'em out of here.
(Bobby) Come on.
Let's go.
(Lucas) Give me the kid.
Move! Daddy, what are they doing? (man) lt looks good.
l think they're all in there.
Murdock, where were you? You were supposed to relieve me back there.
Yeah, but l lost my-- Yes.
l'll go get my gun.
Police officer, freeze.
All right, turn around.
Up against the wall.
All right now.
Move.
(guard) National Motors lnternal Security.
You're under arrest for grand theft.
(guard) All right now, nice and easy.
Over against the wall.
(Face) Now look you probably won't believe this, but what you see is really not what you see.
Yeah.
Yeah, right.
All right, let's go.
Hands up against the wall.
We've had you under surveillance since you started working at the plant.
l had no idea you had this big of an operation.
Well now, if you'd see Rudy Garcia.
l mean, he's the foreman at the plant.
He can explain a lot of this.
Rudy Garcia, huh? What are you guys trying to pull? We just got word that Rudy Garcia and his wife and kid were kidnapped.
And you guys are the prime suspects.
Look, man, we didn't kidnap nobody.
Wait a minute.
l've seen you three before.
l've seen your pictures before.
l don't believe it.
You guys are the A-Team.
l've caught the A-Team.
My lord! The A-Team? l've heard of them.
They're them fugitives that are wanted all across the country.
You mean, l've been standing here working side by side with members of the A-Team? There's a reward out for all the guys.
l will never believe it.
Here l am just a dumb clerk.
l wouldn't have believed it.
Never in a million years.
Of course l always had my suspicions.
Never did trust this one.
lt's them beady eyes.
Hold on, be careful.
l know their reputation.
They're deadly.
We're going to have to tie them up.
Okay.
We'll use this chain.
[groans.]
(Face) Good work, Murdock.
[B.
A.
screaming.]
Shh, shh.
Keep it down, B.
A.
Keep it down.
Once you find one security guard, so then shall you find another.
My foot, l think it's broken.
Take it easy.
Just take it easy.
l can't walk at all because of you.
Now you know it was just an accident.
Now let me see this here.
Let go of my foot.
You're going to make it worse.
Now listen, l can help you.
But you have to listen to me.
Do you understand? Pain is in the head.
So if you think it hurts, it's going to hurt.
Now, you got to think nice things.
Just think happy thoughts.
Go ahead.
Okay.
l'm thinking you got hit by a bus.
Well then, you ought to be feeling better already.
Now, tell me when it hurts, all right? Hey, Hannibal! Tell this fool to leave me alone! Well, that guy's going to have a headache when he wakes up.
But right now, he's sleeping like a baby.
What are we going to do, Hannibal? They got Rudy and his family.
We will have to mount an attack on them right away.
Attack.
What kind of attack? A classic.
The reverse frontal assault.
That's a great one.
Reverse frontal.
Yeah.
Now listen.
Here's the plan.
l got to say we really outdid ourselves this time.
Well, Hannibal, we got a full supply of ammo and the guns are greased and ready.
But one problem.
l don't think l'll be able to drive with my foot like it is.
Face? This is an emergency.
[Hannibal chuckles.]
[tires screeching.]
[[[country music playing.]
All right, everybody, pack it up.
We're moving out of here.
Come on.
(Hannibal) Murdock, can't you go any faster? He's gonna get us killed.
Just relax B.
A.
[tires screeching.]
(Hannibal) This is Smith.
Come out with your hands up.
You've got five seconds.
lt's that guy Smith.
What, is he nuts? (Hannibal) One two three What the hell is he going to do? four five.
[engine revving.]
[tires screeching.]
[guns firing.]
[guns firing.]
Things are looking a lot better, huh, Murdock.
[tires screeching.]
[guns firing.]
[explosion.]
[tires screeching.]
l didn't do such a bad job, did l, big guy? [grunting.]
l love it.
Did you see the way l handled that baby? l ought to be a racecar driver.
The way all of you put that car together, you got a lifetime job here.
l mean, with Hoyt and his men put away, we got some job openings.
l'll keep that in mind if l'm ever out of work.
Where's my wheels? Wheels? Yeah, my van.
You said they towed it and fixed it.
Well, your wheels are here.
Face will tell you.
He knows where it is.
l don't see it, man.
Yeah, well, l told Murdock to park the van somewhere out of sight.
And that's kind of what he did.
Where's my van? You know every auto plant has a place where they send defected and damaged automobiles.
lt's a real big area.
Ain't it, Face? They put my van there? Well, to keep it out of the sun.
Right? What'd they do with my van? You see, they're very thorough here, B.
A.
, you see and they strip the defective cars and they re-use the parts.
lt's fantastic.
Where's my van? We know where your van is.
Yeah.
Most of it.
l know where it is! l mean the carburetor's in a.
We put the radio in a.
l know that the doors are on a brown four-door sedan.
[car engine revving.]
See, your wheels.
You crazy fool! We've got them attempting to retrieve all the old parts.
All you have to do is be patient.
Sit and wait for a while.
Come back! You a dead man, Murdock! Come back here, you fool.
Come back here.
