As the Crow Flies (2022) s03e08 Episode Script
Season 3, Episode 8
1
[melancholy piano music playing]
You got Nunu, huh?
Let's talk.
[Kenan] Is that why you
said yes to our invite, Lale?
So you could get
a chance to poach Nunu, huh?
Nunu decided on his own, Kenan.
There's this thing we all have,
it's called free will.
I know you convinced him.
What can I say,
I have strong relationships.
Oh, I bet.
Your ego's intact.
Exactly.
That's right.
Can I get you something, Kenan?
[gulps]
What are we doing? My god.
Just moving toward something new.
Aslı and Güliz are going with, huh?
[sighs]
We're doing well and
we're getting very good results, you know.
We have to respect our audience's choice.
Jesus Christ, Lale.
Fuck you.
Why would you say that, Kenan?
Doesn't the opinion
of the audience reign supreme?
Aren't we supposed to honor their views?
Wasn't that literally our motto?
I didn't know you were staying.
Now you know.
I didn't hear from you.
I didn't want to tell you about it.
I realized
that without me,
birds still sing,
the world still just turns and turns,
you know?
Müge,
Gül,
you didn't care about that.
It could've been anybody.
I did my best, Lale.
I had no options.
Was I supposed give up and move on?
Well, no.
I think you made the right decision.
Bravo. Good work.
You're not mad about it, are you?
And here I was thinking
[chuckles]
because you showed up
wearing a pair of jeans
and you had that Band-Aid on your finger
I cut myself, that's right.
So, it wasn't about me?
I'm not saying anything about that, Kenan.
I'll have
whisky.
I'm sure I left a bottle here,
I know you don't drink much though.
Maybe you kept it around?
[Kenan] So what do you want now, Lale?
Just doing my job.
Wasn't this gonna be your last season?
Yeah, that's right.
This is the last hurrah, it's true.
Then I'm done.
Then what?
Haven't thought much about it.
So what do you want?
I've been pretty clear
about the things I want, Lale.
I know what I want.
Let's just forget about everything.
Let's talk like normal people.
Cause I'm curious.
I really am curious.
Why didn't you move?
All right.
Let's talk.
There's this man.
He's too harsh.
[sniffs] Too caustic and
and for a long time I was just
trying to do my own thing, but
but it hit me that my
my sense of ambition was
only about getting his approval.
All that mattered was
how much he loved me.
So, without this guy,
I was no one.
So I'm basically smothering you?
What do people say nowadays?
Toxic relationships or whatever, hm?
No, it's not that.
It's love.
Love. It takes over
every cell in your body.
Until you see
everything
through the eyes of that person.
You even see
yourself through his perspective.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it, right? Love, Kenan.
You think that's a bad thing?
Something you need to be saved from?
No, I'm not scared.
Love has brought
a lot of meaning to my life, you know.
It makes me feel present to every breath.
I mean, it's so
it's so all-consuming.
It's difficult to breathe.
It's difficult to breathe
It's really hard.
So that's
what you want.
So you just need to breathe a little more?
Lately, I always feel
like I'm not breathing.
Kenan.
You know, I'm not sleeping either.
I'm not living my life.
My life's about making things
making things easier, you know?
Things have been kinda tough
and I'm really feeling like
I need some relief from all of it.
I feel so overwhelmed
by everything, Kenan
I'm so worn out
and I'm afraid I'll lose
everything all over again and
I'm walking on eggshells around you
and all that matters, I'm so exhausted.
So ruined.
It doesn't matter what you do, I love you.
I guess I'm afraid I'll mess up,
or lose your love
if I don't make it through.
All that matters
all I want is to make you happy,
nothing more.
Everything I do,
I do it for your approval.
Everything.
And I'm so exhausted.
It's draining, you have no idea.
I want to take a break
and get off
this roller coaster for a second.
[Kenan sobbing]
I just wanna take a trip, drop everything
and fly off somewhere
and do whatever we want.
I just need a break from it all.
That would go a long way,
just a little rest,
you know what I'm talking about?
I've missed you so much.
[continues sobbing]
- I missed you, Lale.
- Hey, come on.
Come on.
If this's the only thing in our way,
I'll drop all of it, okay?
Let's leave, let's go away.
Let's do it, please. I want to.
Kenan, please, come on,
you can't just run away.
[Kenan sobs]
Think about it.
We could live right on the Aegean Sea.
We could start an olive oil business.
I'll do anything, I don't care,
just let me be with you, Lale.
I can't live without you.
You'd become obsessed
and you'd need to make
the best olive oil in the entire world.
And we'd start fighting again.
[emotional piano music playing]
[Kenan sobbing]
Then we make love and forget about it.
[Lale sighs]
We don't have to do anything.
I love you so much, Lale.
I do.
You have no idea how much.
It's endless.
Nothing else matters.
Come on. Stop it.
But
one more year of this
and we'll move away, c'mon.
Let's just get back together.
I need you, Lale.
I've missed you, you have no idea.
You have no idea how much, Lale.
I need you so bad, Lale.
Please, don't leave me, okay?
I'm begging you, don't leave me.
I think I can't live without you, Lale.
I'm begging you, don't leave me.
Oh, baby.
You're everything to me.
- It's okay.
- Lale, you're everything to me.
- Okay. All right.
- Okay.
Come on. You're okay.
[Kenan kissing]
All right.
Come on.
- Come on.
- I'll do anything you want, I promise.
I swear, Lale, I'm serious.
- I believe it.
- I promise you.
All right.
[Kenan kisses]
Come on. I'm here.
I'm here.
AS THE CROW FLIES
[Yusuf] Honey?
[groaning]
[cell phone ringing]
INCOMING CALL
GÜLİZ
- [yawning]
- [Aslı gasps]
[cell phone continues ringing]
[Aslı clearing throat]
Oh hey, good timing.
[Güliz] You still haven't found her?
[Aslı] Sorry, what do you mean?
What? How do you not know what I mean?
Oh, I'm sorry, my bad.
I'm looking into it,
I don't have much at this point.
Honestly, I'm kinda
worried about you, Güliz.
Maybe you should put this behind you.
I mean, is he really worth it?
Aslı, you need to do something right now!
You insisted you'd find her.
Oh fuck it!
[exhales]
- Let's go. We gotta get up, all right.
- Hey, wait up.
Why don't I talk to Güliz? Nice and easy.
Are you serious, Yusuf? Don't be stupid.
Get your phone out, hurry, post a story.
- I bet she's stalking you like a crazy
- What if I don't?
We can't risk it, Yusuf.
It'll look like we have something to hide.
Come on, come on, let's go.
[tense music playing]
[camera clicking]
[camera clicking]
Hey, I made you breakfast,
I don't know if you
I'm late, I really have to go.
- Yeah.
- Come here.
- [Lale] See you.
- See you.
[Lale] All right, I'll have you
on a live call on the show tonight.
I'm good. Yeah, we've got your number.
- Talk to you soon.
- [knock on door]
Bye-bye.
- God, finally, here you are.
- Sorry, I overslept.
C'mon, I've got
an interview with Resul in an hour.
I can make it. Is Güliz here yet?
I dunno.
Why does that matter?
I should probably check in,
I'm pretty sure she's furious.
- Wait, don't go.
- Huh?
Listen to me.
You're just sucking up to her,
what's up with that?
You're better than that.
You matter, and you really need to
learn how to treat yourself with respect.
[exhales]
Sure, but I should probably check on her.
[tense music playing]
[narrator] The bird knows
how small and delicate she is,
she could be devoured in a single bite.
That's why, no matter how tough she is,
she can never carry herself
with the confidence of a lion.
And that fills her with dread,
anxiety, and paranoia.
[Aslı] Oh hey, girl.
[music fades]
[Aslı] How're you doing?
You look a lot better, you know.
You're put-together.
Tell me who you're screwing, huh?
[suspenseful music playing]
I wanna hear Aslı's little love story,
I think it'll make me feel good.
Oh, uh
I'm single.
Oh, stop it, you think I'm blind?
You do seem pretty blissed-out though, no?
It's obvious your mind
is somewhere else, girl.
[chuckles] Man, you're
really observant, I'm floored.
Okay, I'll admit I've been having fun.
Not with anybody in particular.
Mostly casual flings.
Just to blow off some steam.
[Güliz] Whatever.
Are you making progress
on what we talked about?
Yeah, maybe, um
it was casual and they broke it off.
Is that possible?
That's my guess.
All right.
See you.
[dramatic music playing]
[dramatic tone]
[music intensifies]
[door opens]
[Güliz] Your present for the celebration.
[door closes]
I was wondering,
do you guys know each other?
Let me remind you
that you were Büşbüş too.
Büşbüş?
What is that?
Never mind.
Things from the past.
We never got close enough to talk
about his personal life like that.
I want you to find out
what Yusuf is up to.
Re-really, I don't
Are are you guys not together, or?
I don't think you'd understand.
We're meant to be.
[Aslı] C'mon, he's a jerk,
you don't need him anymore.
You're gonna be fine, Güliz.
[Güliz]Tell me who you're screwing.
[Aslı] Not anybody in particular.
Mostly casual flings.
Just to blow off some steam.
[music continues]
[music stops]
[intense music playing]
Lale, where's Aslı?
Well, good morning to you too.
I need to find her. Tell me.
She's working right now.
Where is she? What's she up to?
You really expect me
to share her personal information?
[bangs counter]
[yelling] I need to know
where Aslı Tuna is right now!
Where is she!? Where is she?
Someone get me
her goddamn schedule, come on!
No personal information
should be shared by anyone, okay guys?
Understood?
Excuse me, what?
I'll say it louder for you.
Today, a new policy
is officially in effect.
No information from this office
will be shared by anyone,
nor will any employee
be compelled to share.
This rule applies to the board as well.
You understand me?
Get it together, okay?
Hear me? You're being a fool.
Now leave, will you?
Okay, everyone, show's over!
Let's get back to work.
Let's go, let's go, let's go!
[Resul] This has happened
plenty of times in history.
- Like, for example
- [cell phone ringing]
I'm sorry.
Just one moment.
Go ahead, continue, please.
As I was saying,
this kind of thing
has happened in history before.
Precautions have been taken by
farmers in all kinds of civilizations
[buzzing]
GULIZ' ASSISTAN
Oh my gosh, sorry.
All right, continue.
Um, I was talking about
- Precautions in agriculture.
- Right.
Farmers took measures to preserve crops.
A series of technological
advancements produced
[cell phone buzzing]
Just text me, I'm busy right now, okay?
[assistant] Aslı, Güliz wants to see you,
right now. She said it's urgent.
Come back to the office.
- You should drop what you're doing.
- I'll be there when I'm done.
Resule, I'm so sorry.
All right, it's taken care of,
now let's keep going.
All right, technological advancements
Yes, technological advancements
have produced breakthroughs
in agriculture and livestock breeding
[suspenseful music playing]
- [Güliz] Tell me who you're screwing.
- [Aslı] Oh, uh I'm single.
[Güliz] Oh, stop it, you think I'm blind?
You do seem pretty blissed-out though, no?
It's obvious your mind is somewhere else.
[music continues]
[intense music playing]
Uh, ma'am, I can't drive you.
Why not?
They asked me where you were.
Did you tell them?
They told me to stay here.
All right.
Wait, ma'am.
[car chirps]
[driver] Ma'am!
[engine starts]
Look at that slut.
[tires screeching]
[horn honking]
[metal crunching]
[tires squealing]
[tense music playing]
Oh, did you see that?
That one car got hit from behind.
[car doors slamming]
- Hey, isn't that Aslı Tuna?
- Oh, yeah. That news anchor, right?
[bystanders gasping]
[indistinct murmuring]
[man] Oh look, there she is.
She's not seriously injured.
Why are you running away, parasite?
Are you fucking crazy, Güliz?
Yeah, I am, cause I'm about to tear
you a new one, little fucking asshole!
You listen up now, whore,
you're gonna wish
you'd died in this crash today.
You slut and that scumbag Yusuf,
think you can go behind my back?
It's eye for an eye.
Don't even think about running,
I'm gonna destroy you.
You're as good as dead.
You're ruined. Ruined!
Güliz, honey.
He loves me, not you, okay?
Now you know that not everything is yours.
He's not into you, okay?
You don't even exist for him.
So you're
the parasite.
[intense swirling music playing]
[panting]
- [man] Whoa!
- Güliz.
- Güliz?
- Is she okay?
- [man 2] Someone help her!
- Are you alright? Can you hear me?
- Uh
- [man 2] Ma'am, is she hurt?
Carry her to the backseat.
- Put her in the car, careful!
- Right, got her.
Güliz, hey.
Just be careful.
Güliz, can you hear me?
- Güliz?
- [engine starts]
[car horn honks]
[tense music continues]
[knocking]
Aslı?
Aslı?
WHERE ARE YOU? WHY IS
GULIZ LOOKING FOR YOU?
ARE YOU OKAY?
ANSWER ME. THIS IS NOT OKAY.
Aslı TUNA AND GÜLİZ TÜMER'S
SCANDALOUS ACCIDENT
Aslı TUNA WAS UNINJURED.
MEDIA MOGUL'S SOCIALITE DAUGHTER GÜLİZ
RECOVERING AT HOME
LOVE TRIANGLE AT MON5
WHERE IS YUSUF TUNCA?
NEST OF BETRAYALS
WHO'S SLEEPING WITH WHO?
IT'S SUCH A MESS. CAN SOMEONE SUMMARIZE?
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, YUSUF.
THE MORE THE MERRIER
CAN'T EXPECT SERIOUS NEWS FROM YOU.
YOU HAVE NO SHAME!
[music fades]
[melancholy music playing]
TRENDING TOPICS: Aslı TUNA, GULIZ TUMER,
LOVE TRIANGLE, CRASH, YUSUF TUNCA
[Nail] Great, thank you.
Honey, hey.
Listen, hon, there's absolutely
no reason for you to worry, you hear me?
You can trust these guys
will handle everything, okay, sweetie?
This is a great attorney team honey.
You're my princess. I'll take care of you.
So, whatever it costs,
anything I can do it's not a problem.
Well, do you
have some ideas?
Well, with their employment contracts,
we can exploit a range of penalty clauses.
You'll bury them in debt.
The penalties are extremely severe.
OFFICIAL NOTICE
You could sue for defamation as well.
You'd have a good case.
[doorbell ringing]
I'd consider including
something about your recent car crash
in the lawsuit as well.
I'm sure we could
also file a criminal case.
[Nail] I state
LET ME COME OVER
AND SEE YOU. PLEASE.
all of the above.
[phone clicks]
[Güliz] All of the above.
Yeah, I'll do all of it.
Let's just make them powerless.
That's good with me.
Hello.
Yusuf, hi, I'm calling to see
if you wanna get together
at my place in a little while and talk?
Just to catch up.
We've been together since the beginning.
I mean, since Büşbüş, a while back.
Bravo.
Can you believe
those guys put us through this
knowing everyone with a phone will see it?
Unbelievable.
So we're screwed, basically.
Wh what do you guys think?
[inhales]
Take it easy, all right.
It's okay.
I maybe should've
said something from the beginning.
You should've.
Anyway.
Just think, okay?
I need you to walk me through how
things went down from the very beginning.
Do you mind?
[somber piano music playing]
[man on phone]
There's nothing we can do, ma'am.
I suggest you start selling
whatever assets you have.
Even if you do,
it's still a huge amount of debt.
It'll take a long time to pay it off.
I'll try my best
to keep you out of prison,
we'll ask for
the latest due date possible.
I truly wish you all the best.
[Aslı sobbing]
[sniffling]
[sniffling]
[sighs]
[Aslı] "Please don't call me.
I'm done, I'm out."
"Just go and apologize to Güliz."
"Just save yourself.
She loves you, so she'll forgive you."
Ask her for forgiveness. ""
[sniffling]
[music fades]
Go back to her, say you're sorry,
an apology could solve the whole thing.
She's clearly in love with you.
Don't worry, she'll calm down.
[sighing] Lale?
Yeah, I think talking to her
could be a good place to start.
Ultimately though, I think you just need
to make the decision you want to make
and do what you want to do, Yusuf.
This part of your life
is nobody's business,
these are your relationships.
They did go behind her back, though.
You should've just come clean right away.
Yeah, but, c'mon, would it really have
made any difference if they'd been honest?
Güliz is totally out of her mind,
you know how she can be, Kenan.
She would have
attacked them anyway, I think.
Yeah, besides, isn't it
just as humiliating for me
to go bow down to her?
That's how life goes, dude.
There are just days
when you have to give in.
Lale?
Basically
you should do whatever feels right, Yusuf.
This is just one of many curveballs
life's gonna throw at you.
You need to figure out who you want to be.
So that you can choose
to respond honestly.
Let your heart decide. Hear me?
You can't decide
based only on what we say.
And the thing is,
if we just keep giving you advice,
I'm worried that in the end it's only
going to make things worse for you.
So I say
just stay cool,
own up to what you did,
and you'll be all right.
You got it?
[emotional piano music playing]
[music fades]
[door opens]
Good morning, ma'am.
How are you?
[man] Good morning.
Is Kenan coming this morning?
They said he probably won't.
I haven't seen him around today.
[melancholy piano music playing]
Ma'am, I I keep covering this up,
but maybe we should do something else
What?
Well, obviously it's up to you, but I, um
but I wonder if mesotherapy would help?
It's okay.
Ma'am?
Never mind, I'm fine with this.
But you know it's gonna look
It's okay, thank you.
This is okay, I'm good.
Hey guys, um, thanks for everything,
but I won't be needing you today.
[woman] Let's go.
[narrator] There will
come a day for each lion,
when it will have to relinquish
its power in the jungle and step aside.
The weak ones will have to admit defeat
and will finally be forced
to abandon their territory.
[dramatic music playing]
[Nihal] Hey, um, Müge, wait!
Excuse me!
- Uh, good morning.
- Oh, hi there.
I was wondering when you're coming back,
cause I'm pretty sure Kenan's missing too
I need your approval for this
because the guys are waiting for a story.
I think I'm done.
Uh, but
- For good.
- Wait, but Müge, wait.
I need this approved right away.
This is very important.
[Müge] Hmm.
It's not.
Nothing's that important,
because in the grand scheme
of things, it's meaningless.
Is it worth more than our happiness?
I guess you're just
too young to understand.
But it really doesn't matter at all.
Now you should just
take the day
and go out with your boyfriend
or whatever you wanna do.
Don't waste one more second
worried about getting approval.
I I am sure
life's not supposed to be this hard.
It's not worth it.
It never is.
Uh, but
[dramatic music continues]
[clattering]
[dramatic choral music playing]
[narrator] But there are some lions
who will do whatever it takes
to rule over the jungle to the bitter end.
[narrator] Every flight upward
will eventually end in a fall from grace.
The bird must pay a price
for taking a shortcut,
covering the distance as the crow flies.
Because there is always a cost
for a life like that.
[music fades]
Look at you! Oh honey!
[gasps] Oh!
Here. Come on in.
Dad's gonna be home shortly.
And here are your slippers.
Just gimme a minute to check the stove.
[narrator] There are two types
of tragedies in this world.
The first is not getting what you want
the second
is getting everything you want.
[tense music playing]
[sighing]
[seagulls calling]
[waves lapping]
[cell phone chimes]
MY PRINCESS, IT'S ALL DONE.
THEY WILL NEVER FIND A JOB
OR LIVE IN ISTANBUL
Titi!
Titi!
Hey, where are you? Get the hell out here!
[music fades]
[wings fluttering]
[bird calling]
[Lale] Looks good, thanks.
I guess you're the only anchor now.
Guess so.
So you're back at the helm now, and you
you want to quit
and just give it all up again?
[seagulls calling]
This is Lale Kıran's
final show on our network, everybody.
All of us feel extremely privileged
to have had the chance to work with you.
Lale.
You
you will always be a true hero to us.
All right, everybody,
one more show. Let's count it down.
Go.
[applauding]
[Nunu] In ten,
nine
[emotional music swelling]
[applause continues]
[Nunu] Two, one.
You're on, Lale.
[narrator] Perhaps this
is the true nature of the jungle.
Some lions will always
persist and find their way,
until their very last breath.
Until they, and all
lions like them, vanish.
Welcome, everyone.
Recent studies show the climate crisis
is responsible for both regional droughts
and the sudden increase in flooding.
NASA surveying images,
which span a 20-year period,
have decisively shown
the effects of record-high temperatures,
including soil erosion,
which is known to exacerbate flooding.
I'm Lale Kıran.
And this is The Other Side.
[indistinct chatter]
[tense music playing]
Okay so, I just sent the
verification code directly to your phone
[inaudible dialogue]
I'M NOT APOLOGIZING, NOT AT ALL
[music continues]
[inaudible]
You're probably all well aware that
roughly every ten years or so
societies will experience
a serious change in values.
Systems gradually become corrupt,
change starts to occur internally,
before you know it, there's a struggle.
Uh, whoever needs to go will be ousted.
Change itself can be a loaded word
because it often implies
volatility.
You know, as all of us go
through changes of our own
integrity is the only thing
that really matters.
Thinking about the age we live in,
the two most important virtues
are integrity and fairness.
All of us are desperate for them.
As journalists, we have to learn to
work inside a system and understand it.
The profession changes all the time, and
and you have to change with it
because that's what
healthy ecosystems need, right?
Of course, most of all,
it's important to be strategic,
uh, we have to think about what we need
and what we can get rid of,
about which values we want to uphold,
and what to do next.
We have to be very smart about it.
Um, if you can create for yourselves
a set of values,
a few principles to orient you,
then you'll never need to be afraid
of change for the rest of your lives.
Cause they'll always be there for you.
So, if you can develop and
maintain your own moral code,
you'll be able to overcome any obstacle,
and weather any storm you encounter.
I hope you all
live fantastic, exciting lives
you can be proud of.
Try to protect your values.
Thank you so much,
it's been an honor to talk to you today.
I wish you the best.
[crowd applauds, cheers]
[cheering continues]
Ms. Kıran!
- Here you go.
- Ah.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
- Have a great afternoon.
- Yes, you too.
[sighs]
[soaring piano music playing]
[music fades]
I didn't expect you to be here.
Thought I'd pick you up.
[chuckling] Really?
Why not?
So, uh
I guess I'm curious
what comes next for us.
- I made some plans.
- [Kenan chuckling]
Ah, same old, same old.
You're not wrong.
I guess we're staying put then?
I mean, we're not moving.
Let's stick around.
There's so much more to be done here.
[Lale laughs]
[narrator] For the lion,
this battle never ends.
It will keep moving forward
until it takes its last breath.
That's its nature.
The hunt, the chase,
it's what the lion lives for.
It will defend its territory
until it gets defeated by the jungle.
It will always find new lands to roam,
and never stop fighting.
[uplifting music playing]
[seagulls calling]
[music fades]
[faint indistinct chatter]
Hey girls, listen up, okay.
[knocking on door]
Oh, Aslı. That's probably Nurfer.
Get the door, honey.
[doorbell ringing]

We have to be very smart about it.
Um, if you can create for yourselves
a set of values,
a few principles to orient you,
then you'll never need to be afraid
of change for the rest of your lives.
Cause they'll always be there for you.
So, if you can develop and
maintain your own moral code,
you'll be able to overcome any obstacle,
and weather any storm you encounter.
I hope you all
live fantastic, exciting lives
you can be proud of.
Try to protect your values.
Thank you so much,
it's been an honor to talk to you today.
I wish you the best.

Ms. Kıran!
- Here you go.
- Ah.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
- Have a great afternoon.
- Yes, you too.

[soaring piano music playing]

I didn't expect you to be here.
Thought I'd pick you up.
[chuckling] Really?
Why not?
So, uh
I guess I'm curious
what comes next for us.
- I made some plans.
- [Kenan chuckling]
Ah, same old, same old.
You're not wrong.
I guess we're staying put then?
I mean, we're not moving.
Let's stick around.
There's so much more to be done here.
[Lale laughs]
[narrator] For the lion,
this battle never ends.
It will keep moving forward
until it takes its last breath.
That's its nature.
The hunt, the chase,
it's what the lion lives for.
It will defend its territory
until it gets defeated by the jungle.
It will always find new lands to roam,
and never stop fighting.

Hey girls, listen up, okay.
[knocking on door]
Oh, Aslı. That's probably Nurfer.
Get the door, honey.
[doorbell ringing]
[boy] No, wait for me!
[Aslı] Hey, Emre, slow down!
[boy] Hey, no fair, it's my turn!
[Aslı sighs]
[soft piano music playing]
There you are.
Now I'm the one who decided to stop by.
What's that?
[chuckles] It's tea.
You want some?
Yeah, I'm really tired.
Thanks.
Drop that.
I actually need you.
For what?
Aslı, come back.
Listen,
it's time to fight.
