removed from treatment,
and you've come a long way,

I'm nowhere near the player that I was,

am I ever supposed to compete?

tomorrow to improve.

many of you were starting volleyball,
track, or gearing up to
make championship runs.
The pain that comes with losing
your sport you love, that's
that's a hard hole to fall into.
But today, I've invited a special guest
that I hope will
encourage and inspire you

BUCKY: When folks talk
"greatest of all time,"
ain't no one on this God's earth
swing a bat finer than Josh Gibson.
Satchel Paige was another one.
He could throw harder
and meaner than anyone,
Don't mean I didn't take him deep.

Going back to sports and losses,
like, how did you handle missing
out on playing in the majors?
I mean, I know you had dreams
and aspirations of going pro,
and that being taken away from you?
[SIGHS] It was heartbreaking.
I was young, too.
I'd play with my friends,
and we'd pretend we
was in Yankee Stadium.
[CHUCKLES]
We all had our dreams.
To have that taken away from us
before we could build our legacies,
we wondered if anyone
was gonna remember us.
They say we athletes live two lives
a first life while we're playing
and a second life after it's all over,
and that ain't just athletes.
[KNOCKS ON DOOR]
BUCKY: At some point in time,
everybody has something happen to 'em
that split they life in two.
The before and the after.
And let me tell ya, it
don't come without loss.

BUCKY: If you decide to
fight for what you lost,
know that there's
only so much you can do
and that it has costs.

heartbreak weigh you down.

For us Black ball players,
we created our own safe space
the Negro Leagues.
MARCUS: And since retiring,
Mr. Belle has dedicated his life
to supporting the Negro League
Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
BUCKY: We weren't gonna let what we done
fade into history.
That's how I'm spending my second life.

They'll hire an exhibit-design firm
to create and install the
exhibits, but we have to pay.

Well, I guess it's time to rally
the troops and raise some money.

Our goal is to raise enough
donations to pay for the museum.
We'll start with the notable alum.
SGA has all their contact info.
And because of her
time on the pro circuit,
Thea has some connects with
corporations that's willing to help.

people opening their wallets
is seeing what they're donating toward.
But the museum doesn't exist yet.
That's why we need their support.
What if we did a proof of concept?
LANDO: Like a handful of exhibits
on HBCU athletes and teams.
We could put it up
in the Hall of Alumni.
And create an event introducing
the concept of the museum,
livestream it, a digital telethon.
KEK could research athletes to use.
PKZ can help with that, too.
NATE: SGA can come up with
the look of the exhibits.
JR: And the Sports Council can
get the word out on social media.

University star sprinter
who overcame polio as a child,
then went on to win 3
Olympic gold medals in 1960.

to a college title in 1959.
