MacGyver (2016) s03e10 Episode Script
Matty + Ethan + Fidelity
1 - Previously on MacGyver - Hey.
Hey, Mac.
Dragonfly, that's it.
Grab it, let's go.
JACK: What what is this Dragonfly, exactly? MATTY: That information is need-to-know.
My name is Ethan Reigns.
I'm making this video because tomorrow I start deep cover.
Code name Dragonfly.
Matty, this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
I'm so sorry.
I love you.
I love you, too.
("JINGLE BELLS" PLAYING) (BELL RINGING) All right, Dan.
What's so important that it was worth interrupting Christmas dinner with your family? You should know the Agency isn't gonna do anything.
- About what? - You didn't get this from me.
RILEY: Honestly, Bozer.
I don't know why you bother anymore.
How about next year we just keep it simple, order some takeout.
Yeah.
Yeah, man.
That way when some dingbat terrorist tries to steal an intercontinental missile or weaponize the weather, we're not stuck wasting four pounds of pastrami, trying to save the world in slacks.
Two things I never thought I'd hear in the same sentence: "intercontinental missile" and my Christmas pastrami.
Okay, I'm still not connecting the dots between Christmas and cured meat.
- Well, the secret's in the marinade.
- Please, don't get him started.
Yeah, trust me, you do not want to go down that road.
MACGYVER: Yeah, you're not gonna want to start that conversation unless your afternoon is clear.
BOZER: No, ignore the haters, Leanna.
As soon as we get back from dealing with these terrorists, I'll tell you the origin story of the greatest holiday tradition since mistletoe.
- On second thought, why wait? You know, when I was - Hey, guys.
I don't think this is about terrorists.
When Matty asked us to come in, it sounded personal.
(DOOR OPENS) Hey, Matty.
What's going on? Close the door.
Yesterday a man named Samir Verma was arrested for smuggling half a ton of heroin into Croatia.
My friend at the Agency passed me footage of Samir's interrogation from Lepavina Prison, where he's being held.
(MAN SPEAKING CROATIAN) Do we maybe want to run some translation software? Forget the cops.
Focus on Samir's body language.
RILEY: This guy got caught smuggling half a ton of heroin? What's the minimum sentence for that in Croatia? Decade.
Maybe even two.
JACK: Well, if that's the case, then what is this chucklehead smiling about? This.
Tell the American CIA that I know all about Ethan Reigns.
And I will start talking in 48 hours unless they walk me out the front door.
Are we supposed to know who Ethan Reigns Ethan Reigns is my husband.
Matty, d did you just say your husband? MATTY: Ethan and I worked together at the CIA until eight years ago when he accepted an undercover assignment and was inserted into the largest criminal syndicate in South Asia, S-Company, a group that profits from drug trafficking, kidnapping and politically motivated bombings.
Ethan's assignment was code-named Dragonfly.
BOZER: Dragonfly? That's the name of the file you sent us into Ghana to recover.
Ethan was only supposed to be under for a year, but as he rose up the S-Company ranks, he kept passing back increasingly valuable intel to the CIA, so they kept extending his assignment.
MACGYVER: Samir is threatening to expose Ethan as a spy if the CIA doesn't comply with his demands.
RILEY: Wouldn't take long for a rumor like that to get from the prison population back to S-Company.
At which that point, they would - Kill him.
- JACK: All right, hang on, now, hang on.
If the CIA sent you this video, that means they saw it before you did.
Why wouldn't they just send Ethan a signal warning him that his cover had been compromised? - Warning Ethan is not a possibility.
- Why not? Because two years, three months and 11 days ago, Ethan stopped communicating with his handler.
All efforts to locate him in Mumbai, where he was living at the time, failed.
The CIA's theory is that Ethan flipped sides.
But the truth is nobody knows why he went dark.
RILEY: Two years.
- Matty, I'm so sorry.
- My friend at the Agency passed me the footage because Uncle Sam is currently negotiating a new trade agreement with the Croatian government.
- What does that have to do with - Well, the U.
S.
government isn't gonna waste the political capital to transfer Samir to another prison.
Not when they have bigger fish to fry.
And I can't say I blame them.
So no one's going to help Ethan.
No one but us.
You need us to break into that prison, grab Samir, break back out before he has a chance to tell anyone else what he knows.
My husband's life depends on it.
- - Give yourself a chance Shake, shake, shake Shake, shake, shake Shake your booty Shake your booty Oh, shake, shake, shake Shake, shake, shake Shake your booty Hey.
(SILENCED GUNSHOTS) - You can do it very well - (VOLUME INCREASES) You're the best in the world (MAN SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE) I can tell Oh, shake, shake, shake Shake, shake, shake Shake your booty Shake your booty (RAPID GUNFIRE) Oh, shake, shake, shake Shake, shake, shake - Shake your booty - (VOLUME DECREASES) Shake your booty Hey.
- Don't bother.
- (SILENCED GUNSHOTS) - Hey.
- KC and The Sunshine Band? Really? Who doesn't love KC and The Sunshine Band? My name is Ethan.
Shake, shake, shake Shake your booty Let's get you home.
Okay.
Shake your booty.
Now, they first met when Ethan saved Matty on an op that went belly-up.
You know, he and I had only crossed paths a couple of times at the CIA.
He had a reputation for being an exceptional agent with a certain pizzazz for getting under the ASAC's skin, which is something I kind of liked about him, to be honest with you.
But I was one of the only ones that knew that, uh, those two were an item.
That's not really condoned behavior at the Agency.
There were some grumblings that he was on a deep cover op.
I didn't know the details, but, you know I knew enough not to ask.
You know what I mean? Can't believe this.
- What, that Matty was married? - BOZER: No.
That Jack was able to keep a secret for that long.
(ALL CHUCKLE) I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that if this Samir guy never got arrested, - we never would've found out.
- BOZER: I know.
I feel like, all of a sudden, Matty's a totally different person.
Nah.
Same person, Boze.
You're just getting to peek behind the curtain, that's all.
Two years is a long time to wonder what happened to someone you love.
Especially since the CIA's official position is that Ethan flipped sides.
BOZER: I don't buy that for a second.
Matty Webber is a human lie detector.
No way she'd get married to a guy who'd bat for the bad guys.
But nobody's immune to what happens to your head when you go under.
Y you walk enough in the shoes of whatever role you're playing, soon enough, you're gonna see things their way.
Guys, I hate to say this, but there could be another reason Ethan went dark.
If he didn't flip, I mean.
He was exposed as a U.
S.
operative, and executed.
Yeah, there is that.
(SIGHS) She must have so many questions.
RILEY: Yeah.
Hey, Matty.
Blondie.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY) (SIGHS) I've been replaying all the conversations that we've had over the last year, while I was searching for my dad, and all the times that you've been there for me.
And then I realized that you've been living the same nightmare with your husband, and I had no idea.
It's okay, Mac.
You didn't know because I didn't tell you.
How did you do your job every day, like everything was fine? I'm in awe.
But I also wanted to tell you, I wanted you to know that I am going to do everything that I can to make sure that you get the answers you deserve.
Just like you did for me.
I know you will.
Bozer and I are in position.
RILEY: I'm behind the prison's firewall.
Now I just need to give myself super-user access, and we can really have some fun.
Good work, Riles.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Up, up and away.
(ALARM BLARING) (MAN SHOUTING) MACGYVER: Oh, yeah, yeah, that's that's high enough, Boze.
BOZER: What's worse your fear of heights, or running into all that razor wire? Do I have to choose? Just set me down nice, nice and easy.
No, no.
No.
No.
No, no.
No, no.
(GRUNTING) - Oh! - (ALARM BLARING) He's gonna feel that in the morning.
All right, guys, I think we might want to recalibrate the pitch on that thing.
BOZER: Yeah.
- Sorry about that.
- MATTY: You'll have to walk it off later, Mac.
We got to move.
Okay.
(ALARM BLARING) (MEN SPEAKING CROATIAN) All right, I'm in.
Emergency power just kicked on.
How do I find Samir, Riley? Uh, he's in cell block D, cell 14.
All right, Mac, I'm about ready to wipe these records.
Once you confirm you've found Samir, I'll make it like he was never even here.
(BEEPING) Samir? We got your message.
I'm here to get you out.
You are from the CIA? I need you to swallow this.
- What is it? - The key to unlocking this door.
Yeah, or it kills me - before I can tell anyone what I know.
- Look, you asked for help, and here we are.
You think arranging this was easy? That pill is the only way to get out of this cell, and time is a serious factor.
Now swallow it.
Samir, if we wanted you dead, you'd be dead already.
I work for someone who has questions.
Questions only you can answer.
But if you want to get out of this prison, you're gonna have to trust me.
GUARD: Hey.
Hey! - (SPEAKING CROATIAN) - Take the pill.
Swallow it.
Samir took the pill, but I've been made.
- (SHOUTING) - Things are about to get complicated.
(MEN SPEAKING CROATIAN) (SPEAKING CROATIAN) (GROANING) (SPEAKING CROATIAN) The guards think Prisoner 1138 was poisoned by someone posing as one of them.
Mac, what's your status? Not great.
If we don't get Samir the injection in ten minutes, 32 seconds, he really is gonna end up dead.
Uh, guys, we may have another problem.
- Samir made a phone call five hours ago.
- Who did he call? - I don't know.
- JACK: Maybe he got lonely and called his mom.
Even dirtbags have mommies.
Maybe isn't good enough.
If Samir called someone in S-Company, Ethan's as good as dead.
Riley, get me a name.
FEMALE VOICE: Send an ambulance.
An inmate is having Prison medics just reached out to the local hospital.
Jack, Bozer, Leanna, that's your cue.
(ALARM BLARING) (SIREN WAILING) (SPEAKING CROATIAN) (GURGLING) MATTY: Leanna, you got less than one minute before we lose Samir for good.
(SPEAKING CROATIAN) (SAMIR GROANING) - LEANNA: Done.
- All right, package is in hand.
- Let's get the hell out of Dodge.
- (SIREN WAILING) That pill what did it do? Are you even CIA? Riley.
(MAN SPEAKS INDISTINCTLY) SAMIR: Yes, hello.
This is Samir Verma.
We know some of the same people.
- MAN: What people? - SAMIR: It doesn't matter.
I'm calling to tell you, you have a CIA spy undercover in your organization.
He's been with you for years.
I will give you his name if you help me out of my current situation.
I only made that call because I didn't know you were coming.
If someone had told me It wasn't enough you asked the CIA for help, was it? You had to play both sides.
Can you really blame a guy for exploring all of his options? Besides, I didn't even give them the agent's name, - so what's the problem? - What's the problem? The problem is that now S-Company thinks they have a mole problem, which means, Samir, that you now have a "me" problem.
Nobody knows we pulled you out of that prison, so no one will ask a single question if you just happen to topple out the back of this plane.
Yeah, she's dead serious.
Now I'm gonna ask you some questions.
And what happens to you next is based entirely on how helpful I feel your answers are, do you understand? Good.
How did you learn that Ethan Reigns was an undercover CIA agent? He recruited me to introduce him to a business associate of mine.
This was years ago in Mumbai.
I realized then that Ethan was CIA.
Did some digging, but stayed quiet.
I figured, someday, I might be able to use the info.
Ethan's old undercover reports mention a CI he cultivated in Mumbai.
Is Reigns still alive? When's the last time you saw him? Face-to-face? A few years.
But he's done well for himself in S-Company.
Wasn't hard to keep track of.
Where is Ethan Reigns right now? - Last I heard, Cyprus.
- Leanna, give the pilot new coordinates.
You're gonna need to be more specific.
That's all I know, I swear.
I heard Ethan was sent to Cyprus to expand S-Company's territory.
They're making some big moves there.
If I knew more, I'd tell you.
I would.
(PANTING) Matty? Matty, hey, hey, hey, boss lady.
Oh, hey, what's going on? Now, deep breaths.
Deep breaths.
- Deep breaths now.
- The moment S-Company got that call, they would've started searching for the undercover agent.
It's only a matter of time before they realize that Ethan crossed paths with Samir.
I know, but we're gonna get to Cyprus, and we're gonna find him before they connect those dots.
I promise, okay? Hey.
I promise.
It's gonna be all right.
You hear me? - Okay.
- Okay.
There you go.
It'll be all right.
(LAUGHS, SPEAKS GREEK) Honey, I'm home! Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
- (GROANING) - Nobody moves, or it's your last day breathing.
Who's Lutsky? - I said, who's Lutsky?! - Me.
Who the hell are you? Who the hell am I? - (GRUNTS) - I'm the guy who's asking the questions.
(LUTSKY GROANING) We're all good in here, Mac! Nice fastball, Mac.
Actually, in cricket, it's called a Never mind.
Oh, lookie there.
That's not a terrible plan, but a few minor problems, though.
This corner they built a guard tower so this guy would be seen coming a mile away.
LEANNA: Plus, we broke out Samir last night.
JACK: You hear that? We beat you to it.
That's how we knew Samir called you from prison, dum-dum.
Samir made a big mistake calling here.
You know, we've always known that S-Company communicates on a custom-built cellular network, which is why it was always so impossible to run digital surveillance on you and your scumbag pals.
- (GRUNTS) - We never had a way in, - until now.
- (GROANS) You're gonna write down the names of everyone you spoke to after you hung up with Samir.
I'm I'm left-handed.
Not today, you're not.
(GRUNTS) Get to writing.
RILEY: Hey, good news, Matty.
The data we mined from those devices cracked S-Company's cell network wide open.
I'm looking at communications here dating back years.
Gonna take time to untangle all this fresh intel, but it looks like a treasure trove.
Man, these guys are into some dark stuff.
What kind of dark stuff? Abductions.
Murders.
Looks like this S-Company's willing to do anything to protect the expansion of their trafficking business into Cyprus.
(COMPUTER CHIMES) I just got 37 mentions of Ethan's undercover name in texts and e-mails, all pointing to one IMEI number.
- Wait, you got Ethan's phone number? - Yeah.
But before you get too excited, as of yesterday, S-Company's been snooping - on all their people's cell traffic.
- MACGYVER: Well, yeah, they're looking for a mole.
If we call Ethan on his cell phone, we'll out him.
Yeah, but it's not all bad news.
I can track his cell phone in real time.
Judging by his speed, he's in a car.
Great work, you two.
I'll get the van.
You okay, Matty? Since the day Ethan left, I've imagined what it would be like to see him again.
And now that the moment's almost here, I don't know if I'll be able to get a word out.
(SHUDDERING EXHALE) MACGYVER: (SIGHS) Look, I don't really want to bring this up, but we want you to be prepared.
For? Eight years undercover is no joke.
You spend all that time looking over your shoulder.
It can weigh on you.
It can affect any person.
- You know what I mean? - What I get is that you two are trying to dance around telling me that surviving in S-Company this long means Ethan's seen things, done things, things that likely turned him into a very different man than the one I fell in love with.
That pretty much sums it up, yeah.
I've ran spies for decades.
I know what could be waiting for me.
I've known since the day he left.
But I can't think about that now.
Let's save his life today.
We'll figure out the rest tomorrow.
MACGYVER: According to this, he should be on that street over there.
(BRAKES SQUEAK) Ethan.
- - (WHISTLING) - - All I'm saying - is that there's other musical choices out there.
- Boogie wonderland And if we're gonna be sharing a life, you may want to consider expanding your musical horizons.
That's all I'm saying.
Okay.
All I'm saying is that everything, whether it's rock or rap or house, it all comes back to disco anyway, so why not just stay there, at the source? How did you get like this? You were, like, six when the '70s ended.
My parents listened to disco when I was growing up.
It just reminds me of them.
I'm sorry they couldn't be here.
It's okay.
I don't need a big, fancy wedding with a bunch of guests fawning all over us.
I just need you.
And Padre What's-his-name.
What is his name? I have absolutely no idea.
- (CHUCKLES) - Aquà estás.
Thank you.
Gracias.
- Wait, wait.
Um - Hmm? Huh? Before we drink, we need to talk.
Oh, do we have to? We're having such a good time.
We're having such a good time because we don't know anyone down here, Ethan.
- Mm-hmm.
- Eventually, we have to go back home.
So what are we gonna tell the Agency? Well, as far as they are concerned, we're on an op.
And I don't think they're gonna go looking for a marriage certificate in the Osa Peninsula.
(CLICKS TONGUE) Um aren't you forgetting about something? (POPS LIPS) What if we only wear them when we're not working? Oh, it's a good idea.
- Deal.
- Deal.
To you.
Dance - Aah! - Let's go dance.
- MACGYVER: Let's go.
- JACK: All right, hang on.
Matty, something tells me that Ethan and his pals are about to break a few major laws here.
MACGYVER: That's a lot of firepower.
Do we abort? S-Company can realize Ethan's a spy any moment, at which point those men will turn on him.
Go.
Secure the asset.
JACK: Riley, you got eyes? Just got behind the building's security system.
Ethan's entering the office of a biotech firm on the fifth floor.
Patching in the van now, Matty.
MACGYVER: Any idea what they're doing? Guessing they're here to steal something, Mac.
JACK: Oh, man, I'm wearing this peashooter and we're about to get into a gunfight with a bunch of guys with automatic weapons? That is not gonna go well for us and I'm an optimist.
- Clearly.
- So, how are we doing this? If I can separate Ethan from his guys upstairs, can you take care of the ones guarding the exits? JACK: Yeah, yeah, I'm pretty sure I can clear you an escape route but how do you propose on doing said separating? I got a plan, but it kinda sorta hinges on Ethan actually wanting to come with us.
Kinda sorta? That kinda sorta sounds like a terrible plan, man.
I'm not super loving it, either, but it's what we got.
I'll get out of here.
Yeah.
(PHONE RINGING) (DRILL WHIRRING) Nay.
MAN: Merry Christmas and congratulations.
You've just won a free cruise to the Bahamas, courtesy of Dragonfly Cruises.
- (SPEAKS GREEK) - MAN: That's right.
Dragonfly Cruises think you deserve to get away.
We're offering you a chance to escape all your troubles at the end of the hall on a luxurious upper deck.
Come on, Ethan.
(PHONE BEEPS) Don't move.
Don't move.
Matty Webber sent me.
S-Company knows there's an undercover CIA agent in their ranks.
Doesn't matter what you've done or where your allegiances lie.
They will kill you when they find out it's you.
Nod if you understand.
Good.
Then you understand you have to come with me.
All right, Jack, asset's secure.
Headed your way.
How's it looking down there? (MAN GRUNTS) Shh All right, good work, Mac.
I'll have the building perimeter clear by the time you hit the lobby.
(WOMAN SCREAMS) - Riley, what was that? - RILEY: It's bad, Mac.
The janitor just accidentally walked in the middle of S-Company's robbery.
(MEN SPEAKING GREEK) They're talking about killing her.
BOZER: Mac, they're gonna execute this woman right now; you can't leave.
If you do, she dies.
(SIGHS) Take the stairs to the lobby.
Our van's across the street.
(WOMAN SCREAMS) (SPEAKING GREEK) (ALL GROANING) Come with me.
Riley, the elevators.
(ELEVATOR BELL DINGS) (CRIES OUT) Tell Matty I'm sorry.
MACGYVER: Guys, Ethan's in trouble.
He outed himself to save me.
I don't have him.
Do you copy? All right, I got eyes on Ethan.
(RAPID GUNFIRE) (GRUNTS) (TIRES SCREECH) I can't get close.
These guys are packing too much hardware.
MACGYVER: Matty, I'm so sorry.
I couldn't save them both.
- I had to choose.
- Mac, we're past that now.
We have to stop them from taking Ethan, or they will kill him.
(GRUNTS) (TIRES SCREECH) (GRUNTS) (RAPID GUNFIRE) Ethan, look out.
- Ethan.
- Matty.
There's so much to say.
I'm so sorry, there's no time.
I need your help.
They're gonna kill my family.
S-Company beat us here.
MACGYVER: You know, your family could've made it out.
No.
They wouldn't run.
Deena knows to go right to the panic room if anything happens.
We'll go around back, you guys take the front door.
All right.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
(POWER TOOL WHIRRING) (GRUNTING) (POWER TOOL WHIRRING) Hey, Bob Villa.
(GRUNTS) Home improvements are over.
(WHIRRING) (WHIRRING) Huh? (GROANS) (GUNSHOT) ETHAN: Safe room's over here.
- It won't open.
- Yeah, it took too much damage.
That's not gonna work.
Just give me a second.
Hang on.
We're gonna get you out, okay? - GIRL: Daddy? - ETHAN: I'm here, baby.
We're gonna get you out of there.
Okay, Mac, what are we doing here? MACGYVER: Transferring energy from this power drill into spreaders that'll have enough mechanical energy to pry open this door.
Yeah, if you say so.
(WHIRRING) Daddy.
Hey, hey.
Mm, mm.
Are you okay? You okay? BOZER: How long has it been? Almost an hour.
Has Matty ever been late for anything? No.
No, but she's never had a conversation like this before.
I mean, she's about to find out whether or not she still has a husband.
Know what I mean? There she is.
Mac.
Can I talk to you? Yeah? Flying to Croatia, you asked me how I kept my focus while Ethan was away.
Here's my answer: the only thing that makes all the sacrifices this job requires worthwhile is knowing that I am helping innocent people, saving innocent lives.
What you did in that office building, choosing to save that woman, that was the right thing to do, and I'm sorry, because I should have said that sooner.
(LAUGHS SOFTLY) Thanks.
(SIGHS) The agents who debriefed you said you never stopped stockpiling intel against S-Company.
Even after you stopped reporting back.
That intel will help us to strike some serious blows against the organization.
Maybe even give us a map into placing another UC agent inside.
Good.
I'm glad.
You look good, Matty.
New job, all of this, I'm really proud of you.
I love what I do.
Ethan, what happened? You need to know that I didn't plan any of this.
- Things got complicated.
- Wow.
That's vague.
Try again.
At first, I was just playing the role that was required by the assignment.
I did what was needed to fit in with those men.
Eventually, I met Deena, and then our daughter was born two years, three months and 12 days ago.
And after that, it became too dangerous to contact my handler, so I just stopped.
And then, all of a sudden, the role that I was playing in order to survive long enough to get back to you, it just became my life, just like that.
But I need you to know I never stopped loving you.
Not for one day, not for one second.
And I'm so, so sorry.
You have nothing to apologize for.
The direction our lives took was as much my fault as it is yours.
Ethan? E, what's wrong? Ops director is sending me to India.
Non-official cover in Mumbai for 12 months.
- You want to take it.
- I speak Marathi.
And I ran that false flag against Lashkar-e-Taiba last year and I got an itch for it.
Any way you look at it, this is a career maker.
And I could easily get any chief of station job if I wanted, after this.
But? But four years ago, the best thing that ever happened to me walked into my life.
And I don't want to put off having a family anymore.
So I'm gonna tell the CIA I'm done with deep cover.
You can't turn down the job.
Matty Ethan, you're exceptionally good at what you do.
Better than anyone the Agency would send to Mumbai in your place.
So you're gonna take the assignment.
You're gonna do whatever you have to do to stay safe, to stay alive and then to come home to me.
Then we'll pick up where we left off.
Are you sure about this? We have forever together.
What's one year? Hmm.
(QUIETLY): One second.
(IPOD CLICKING) Just wait.
("SHAKE YOUR BOOTY" PLAYING) KC and The Sunshine Band.
- Mm-hmm.
- Really? Who doesn't love KC and The Sunshine Band? Shake, shake, shake Shake, shake, shake Shake your booty Shake your booty Go.
You belong with them.
(EXHALES) JACK: So? (CRYING): He's going back to his family.
Well, you know yours is right here.
(SNIFFLES)

As soon as we get back from dealing with these terrorists, I'll tell you the origin story of the greatest holiday tradition since mistletoe.
- On second thought, why wait? You know, when I was - Hey, guys.
I don't think this is about terrorists.

(SNIFFLES)
