SEAL Team (2017) s03e16 Episode Script

Last Known Location

1 - Previously on SEAL Team - Some jackass at the bar is talking his time up as a frogman.
- Excuse me.
- I'm just having a little fun.
What you're doing here is dishonoring the memory of our brothers - who died doing the things you claim to do.
- (GRUNTS) LINDELL: Well, you continue to impress me, Spenser.
You'd be an outstanding candidate for STA-21.
- Seaman to Admiral? - Being an admiral would give you the kind of influence it takes to make a real difference.
Can you die at your job? No matter what, I will always be with you.
My men and my mission come first.
CONNERS: What is it that you want, Jason? I want to make sure that my men come home.
You need to be open for a relationship to work.
And putting Bravo 1 first will never allow that to happen.
- (TRAIN WHISTLE BLOWING IN DISTANCE) - Move.
- Trent, set the charges.
- Roger.
(BEEPS) (BEEPS) Bravo 1, this is Bravo 2.
Position X-Ray is set.
Upper charge's set.
Havoc, this is 1.
I pass Musgraves and Underwood.
Bravo 5, both teams are inbound.
Stand by to move.
(ENGINE STARTS) (GUNFIRE) Contact from the rear! Move out! Go! Go-go-go-go-go! (GUNFIRE CONTINUES) SONNY: Exfil compromised.
I have an out.
Move on me.
Trent.
Nine-banger.
Last man.
Last man.
RFD still in range? We're good! Move, move, move, move.
Sir, we've got two enemy vehicles moving on Bravo.
All right, so much for a clean getaway.
Let 'em know what's happening.
All right, listen up.
I need all the eyes I can get.
We're passing McEntire.
Bravo 1, this is Havoc.
Be advised.
You've got what appears to be two enemy vehicles moving towards your location.
(TIRES SCREECHING) Copy, Havoc, we see 'em.
Let's go, move, drive.
Punch it! We need to slow 'em down.
A few frags might do the trick.
Hey, pass them out.
Let's do it.
Sir, we lost eyes on.
Call 'em.
Bravo 1, this is Havoc Base.
You still have enemy vehicles in pursuit.
JASON: Affirmative.
They're gaining on us.
They'll be overtaken before they hit the exfil point.
Bravo 1, this is Havoc Base.
New plan.
Return to last known location.
We are rerouting the extract helo to your infil point.
(GUNFIRE) That's good copy.
All right, call the helo, have them adjust.
Tell them it's gonna be a hot extract.
These guys don't quit, do they? Push them back! We're in serious trouble back here, Jace.
We can't break contact.
VICTORY 2-7: Bravo 1, this is Victory 2-7.
We are inbound to your new extract point.
- Two mikes out.
- Copy that.
We have two enemy vehicles on our six.
I'm gonna mark the friendly vehicle to identify it.
Got 'em.
VICTORY 2-7: Bravo 1, I see IR strobe on friendly vehicle.
Coming in hot.
Get ready! JASON: Trent, burn it! Move, move, move! Let's go! Thanks for the assist, boys.
Full Metal, turn steel.
Fire in the hole! JASON: Oh, no, no, no, no, no Oh, yeah, come on.
These dogs got to bark after that death march, boys.
Yeah, speaking of, you really pulled our asses out of the jackpot on that one, brother.
I tell you what, if I'd known that the reward would have been Sonny's stinky feet, - I would've left him behind.
- Whoa.
Yeah, well, be thankful that stink is coming from his feet - and not somewhere else, man, 'cause - (SONNY WHOOPS) - (CHUCKLING): Yeah.
- RAY: Hey, you know what? Speaking of which, perfect time to call same bunkmates as last deployment? - Yes? - Good move, mm-hmm.
CLAY: What? No-no-no-no.
Time out.
No, you-you can't put me with Sonny - three years in a row.
- JASON: I'm sorry, but it's called seniority has priority.
TRENT: Clay, it's only three months, up close and personal, - with Sonny's nether regions.
- SONNY: Oh, yeah.
Navy leaves that part out of their commercials.
- JASON: Oh, yeah.
- It's not just a job.
It's an adventure.
Yeah, look, I'm gonna remember this, boys, next time the Tali-monster's tracking you down.
CLAY: Well, Sonny, haven't you heard? - The old Taliban's our friends now.
- SONNY: Oh.
Yep.
Gonna be strange making friends with them.
It's just not right.
SONNY: Well, that sure as hell takes the fun out of deployment.
It's like kissing your bearded sister.
(LAUGHS) A waste of the world's greatest assault force, - if you ask me.
- JASON: Yeah, well, nobody asked you, man.
Tip of the spear goes where it's pointed.
RAY: That's right.
SONNY: Know what's different? We leave in three days, and we haven't discussed a send-off barbecue.
Me cooking my world-famous tri-tip before we deploy is an institution.
- JASON: Mm-hmm.
- We-We're doing that again this year? JASON: Course we're doing it, man.
It is a Bravo Team tradition.
I have to check with the old lady and make sure she doesn't have anything planned.
I don't know if I'm gonna be plus one or a plus two.
With Mikey coming in tomorrow, he's gonna meet Natalie for the first time, so I don't know how that's gonna end up.
- RAY: You guys got to count me out.
- What? I got to get the family settled into the new house.
- JASON: What? Stop.
- Before we disappear, brother.
Just save me some leftovers for the flight, all right? SONNY: All right.
I'm making an executive decision.
Barbecue is tomorrow.
And some of you need to rethink your priorities.
The biggest priority is to make sure we get home and get everything in order with our families before we ship out and leave our lives behind for the next three months.
NATALIE: Everybody make it home safe from the op? JASON: Yeah, got in really late last night, so I just thought I'd come here and be your personal greeter.
'Cause we're only gonna have a few hours - before my son gets into town, so - Yeah.
A few hours of alone time for three months.
- No big deal.
- Yeah, you know what? Maybe I can get your friend Lindell to get some kind of a special assignment for you in J-bad.
You could come and help, you know? Work with that, that hip thing that I have.
- Oh.
- Those hip exercises? - Yeah.
- Get that movement going? - Oh, gracious, that hip.
- (PHONE BUZZING) Definitely needs a stretch, now that you mention it.
- Mikey.
Hold on.
- Okay.
Hi, buddy.
No.
Uh Minnesota? Okay.
But just do me a favor, you just call me when you get there, all right? All right, I love you.
Bye-bye.
Well, doesn't look like Mikey's coming home.
- Oh, no.
- Made some kind of an all-star team.
And they're playing the game in Minnesota, so - That's great.
- Yeah.
That sounds like a good opportunity for him.
Yeah.
Right.
You don't think it's so good.
Usually the kids are home, and we have this pre-deployment routine.
I'm not used to being so invested in a Team guy, and I don't know how any of this works, either.
- How what works? - Us.
7,000 miles apart for three months.
- Yeah, we'll make it work.
- (PHONE BUZZING) (GROANS, INHALES SHARPLY) Don't tell me you're spinning up again? Nah, it's, it's worse.
It's Lindell.
He wants to see me right away.
I got to go, okay? Didn't realize how much stuff we had until now.
It is daunting.
It's nothing we can't handle.
Here, can you mark that for the living room, babe? I'm so excited for my new canopy bed.
And so is Teena.
Ah, well, your new bed will be the first thing I set up in the new house, honey.
So you and Teena can have sweet dreams our first night there.
How long will you be gone? Three months.
Three short months, okay? Fighting bad guys? Uh, not every day.
Actually, where Daddy's going has gotten pretty boring.
Where will you live? On a big base with the rest of my team.
Yeah, it's like a big sleepover - with Uncle Jason every night.
- Yeah.
Only I won't get to sleep in a canopy bed, so boring.
We should have a sleepover in our new house.
All of us can sleep in my new bed tomorrow night.
(LAUGHS) I don't think we'd all fit.
Right? But you need extra good sleep for your job.
If you're tired, something bad might happen.
Uh, you know what, honey? A sleepover sounds like an excellent idea.
We're doing it.
(CHUCKLES) Sonny, any idea what the hell this is about? Uh, maybe he wants some going-away ideas for his precious Clay? Master Chief Hayes, Petty Officer Quinn.
Come on in.
At ease, gentlemen.
(DOOR CLOSES) Master Chief, I know you would normally receive advance notice about this, but as I've only just made this decision and we are short on time, I'm informing both of you that instead of deploying with Bravo Team later this week, Petty Officer Quinn will travel to Laughlin Air Force Base tomorrow for six weeks of advanced armory school.
The hell I am.
There's no chance I'm sitting out Sir, Bravo Team is deploying to a war zone in two days.
And a few weeks ago, Mr.
Quinn assaulted a patron at a Washington, D.
C.
pub.
And this is how I'm handling it.
You what? Some douche was stealing valor, okay? - And, sir, I barely even touched him.
- Sir, if I had known I imagine you would have done very little, much like after his altercation at the bar in Guam on your last deployment.
Quinn here has a pattern of behavior that's been ignored for far too long.
Sir, you should be patting me on the back instead of kicking me in the ass for putting that fraud in his place! Look at this as an opportunity to cool off and to prove to me that you are capable of handling the high-stress environment of Afghanistan.
What, are you trying to tell me I might not deploy at all? We have any other options, sir? We could open a formal disciplinary review into the incident.
No, sir.
Quinn will do his time in Texas.
You know, deployment really isn't a big deal.
It's not any more dangerous than a spin-up.
It's just a longer trip.
I know what I signed up for.
Me worrying isn't gonna make it any easier for you.
This is usually a much more difficult conversation.
Thank you.
Gives me one less thing to worry about.
Well, what else are you worried about? I need to give Lindell an answer about STA-21, and I don't have one yet.
What, you mean you haven't instantly made a life-altering decision? Point and shoot is about as life-altering as I'm used to.
Okay.
Well, then let's pro/con it.
Pro you're set to become an admiral.
Con? Well, I get pulled from the field and have to leave Bravo.
And end up where? Rhode Island for basic officer training first.
And then, uh over three years I'd be commissioned an ensign, have to do some more officer training.
But if you imagine yourself on a bigger stage, why is being pulled from the field a con? Well, a few months ago, I told my dad that I loved being a Team guy more than anything in the world.
I meant it.
You know, and I'm-I'm not I'm not sure that I'm ready to stop door-kicking permanently.
So wait.
Program's got an age limit.
So if I want to point the spear rather than be the tip of it, then, uh, it's now or never.
(BEEPING) I never seen you take it from a cake-eater like that.
- That right? - Especially one that's messing - with your team, buddy.
- I'll tell you what, you know what, you didn't give me much of a leg to stand on with Lindell.
Look, man, I saw what happened to you when you were away from Bravo, okay? And I-I'm not just so sure I can make it, Jace.
Well, you have to, all right? You got to suck it up and do it, all right? You'll be back in Texas, you'll be close to home.
- You'll make ribs - My brothers are gonna be in J-bad where I should be, Jace! And I just don't think I can just accept that! Well, you're gonna have to accept it! Lindell has got you in the crosshairs right now, right, and he's got an itchy trigger finger.
Do not give him a reason to put a bullet in you.
So I'm supposed to do what, just, just scoot on back to Texas and be a good ol' boy, - is that it? - That's right, that's right, you're gonna scoot on back to Texas and you're gonna be a good ol' boy, that's what you're gonna do, but right now you're gonna go have a nice barbecue with the team and you're gonna say goodbye to everybody, nicely.
Then you're gonna go to Texas and you're gonna walk the line for six weeks, so you can come back and rejoin us.
You keep your nose clean, do not give me a reason to replace you permanently.
(DOOR OPENS) Well, it might not be that bad, Sonny.
Easy there, Blackburn.
My tri-tip is always three-star Michigan quality.
It's, uh, Michelin, not Michigan, Sonny.
Michelin? Well, what in the hell's a tire company know about meat? I was talking about your punishment, not your meat.
Yeah, I know what you were talking about there, Blackburn.
'Cause nobody ever questions the quality of my meat.
Well, just think of it as time to recharge.
You know, get a fresh perspective.
(CHUCKLES) Perspective I got: Lindell, well, he's looking for scalps just to prove he's boss.
Just watch your back, boys.
Hey, yo.
Gonna miss you, knucklehead.
(GRUNTS) Didn't think you were gonna make it.
Yeah, well, Naima gave me a hall pass when she heard the news.
Couldn't let you leave without saying goodbye.
Wow! Wow, look at that right there.
Unbelievable, I finally got somebody on my side.
Hey, Ray, you want a beer? Yeah.
I just wish you'd make it easier on yourself by not sticking your hand in the hornets' nest, thinking it won't get stung.
Well (CLEARS THROAT) you see, I did not join Bravo to be a wallflower, Ray.
Yeah? And you know what? Your Texas-sized anger management issues put us a man down at the worst possible time, Sonny.
All right, come on.
Get something to eat.
You know I'm right.
Who do you love? Hey, want to head over to the barbecue together? Uh I don't think I'm gonna make it.
What, work? Do you think terrorist activity in Afghanistan is too quiet? Hmm, well (CLEARS THROAT) I'm not as up to speed on the big picture as you are, but yeah, in general too much stability in a country that hasn't seen peace in decades, that would ping my radar.
This is what I've been saying.
But the popular opinion up chain of command is that the calm is the benefit of peace talks with the Taliban.
And that I'm too green to know any better.
Getting a lot of "stay in your lane, little girl"? You know, this is my first time in this role on deployment.
Maybe they're right.
Screw 'em.
Intel is your lane.
Follow your instincts.
See where the evidence leads.
I'm about to hop on a call with the Intel officer on the ground over there, get the lay of the land.
Do you think you might be able to stay, be a second brain on it? Whatever you need.
All right, well RAY: These questions Jameelah's asking, man, they're just getting harder and harder to answer.
I feel like I'm already under fire, and I haven't even deployed yet.
Yeah, you and me both.
Where's Lindell get off standing Sonny down without reading me in first, huh? It's messed up that he bypassed you, but, you know, Sonny, he-he made his own bed.
- Okay.
- All right, ladies and gentlemen, - the meat has been prepared.
- (ALL CLAMORING) What's up, Clay? SONNY: Oh, look who decided to show up! Last in, first out it's the new Clay Spenser way.
Heard the news, man.
It's a tough break.
That's the best you got, huh? REBECCA: Well, Sonny, if it makes you feel any better, I think Clay's gonna miss you more than me in the next six weeks.
JASON (CHUCKLES): That's cute.
No, it doesn't make me feel any better.
Okay, but I tell you what, when your livelihood is ripped away from you, I'll come around and I'll start making jokes - about it, how about that? - Hey, Sonny! - Easy, man, easy.
- What? You know, I-I'm actually curious.
I'm just curious it's been on my mind here.
How in the hell did Lindell find out what happened in D.
C.
, huh? You happen to tell him in one of your private meetings there, golden boy, hmm? Why would I do that? Well, the teacher's pet does need his star, doesn't he? Heard somebody from the bar called DoD.
- Oh, really? - We don't talk about you, Sonny.
Mmm.
Then what do you talk about, hmm? You're always talking about how he has a shine on you.
Huh? All these opportunities.
So you ain't narcing out your brothers, - then what the hell you talking about?! - That's enough! - That is enough! - JASON: Sonny, take it easy.
What is it?! You look like you got something to say! Spit it out! He's pushing me for STA-21.
I knew it! Yeah.
Listen up, brothers, listen up.
Clay Spenser ain't nothing ever good enough for him, is it? No, no, no.
Yeah, why don't you eat some cake, huh? Eat that cake.
Yeah.
I haven't said yes.
SONNY: Well, no, you haven't said no, either, have you? Because Bravo's just been another rung on the ladder, hasn't it? - Hasn't it? - RAY: Hey, hold up.
Just because you're content where you are - doesn't mean Clay has to be.
- Oh, shut your mouth! Roger that there, Warrant Officer Perry! Okay, you know what? Hey, you're out of line.
Take a walk, cool off.
You put yourself on the sidelines, all right? Take a walk.
SONNY: You know, a few years ago, a guy on Bravo getting shivved like this right before deployment, there would be a mutiny.
A mutiny.
And it'd be led by you.
And you're just sitting on your hands.
You're sitting on your hands, and every one of you is acting like I did something wrong.
- You did.
- I did? Yeah, and the team's paying for it.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Well, I guess I'm just going on about about nothing, right? Ain't that the thing, yeah.
Because if I ain't got the brotherhood to protect, then ain't no reason for me to stick around.
Yeah, you were not joking with the peace with the Taliban party line.
I mean, do you see what I'm up against? (PHONE BUZZING) Why is The Boom-Boom Room in your contacts? That's a long story.
So, how do I prove them wrong? (SIGHS) Well, first, you're gonna need a credible line of facts to follow.
Next, thick skin.
They're gonna accuse you of chasing ghosts.
Worse, if you're wrong.
Well, it looks like I need to start crossing my Ts and dotting my Is.
Might be another all-nighter.
(SIGHS) We leave for Afghanistan for three months in less than 48 hours.
The work will be there when we land.
You're taking a break tomorrow night.
Well, all the meat is gone, - but we still have some salad left.
- (LAUGHS) Those guys are like a pack of hyenas.
Yeah, I'm glad my plant-based initiative was such a roaring success.
(LAUGHS) Well, at least Sonny's tri-tip was better than his attitude.
- Definitely not his finest hour.
- Not his finest hour because he's being torn away from his Bravo family.
That's why.
Now hearing you want to go? Take it you're against STA-21? I'm not against it or for it, I just don't see you doing it.
What, you don't think I can handle it? - I don't understand why you'd want to do it.
- All right Wars are won on the battlefield, not in the conference room.
Maybe my experience on the battlefield's useful - in those conference rooms.
- That doesn't matter.
Teams, our mission, the brotherhood, it's who we are.
It's who you are.
You know, I told you this before.
There's a lot that can take you out of this job.
Don't take yourself out of it.
RAY: Box six.
Kitchen.
NAIMA: Check.
When are the movers gonna get here? Not due for another hour, sweetheart, and staring out that door's not gonna get them here any faster.
- Go play, okay? - (PHONE BUZZING) Ah, it's Cheryl.
Full-service real estate agent, probably calling to wish us luck on our new house.
Hey, Cheryl.
You, uh, offering to help us unpack this afternoon? What? Uh, well, is there any way they can fix it today? No, um, yeah, I understand.
Just, uh, keep me posted, would you? Yeah, thanks.
Um, the water main broke - at the new house overnight.
- What? There was flooding, the house took on a lot of water.
Raymond, how bad is it? We're gonna need to get a contractor to fix the damage before we move in.
I-I should've known not to get a new house before I got my promotion this is so st Hey.
Stop that.
This is just a little hiccup.
We'll manage.
Yeah.
I'll cancel the movers.
We're not moving today? Uh, it doesn't look like it, honey.
But you're going away tomorrow.
NAIMA: It's out of our hands, honey.
No! We can't move without you, Daddy! What if you die over there? The new house will have no memories of you.
- Baby.
- Hey.
I'll talk to her.
DAVIS: Hey.
- Yo.
- You make it home okay? Or you, uh, stumble in from the strip club this morning? (EXHALES) Well, I'm glad you're more concerned about my time at the jiggle joint than you are with coming to the barbecue to say goodbye.
Goodbye? We're flying to J-bad together tomorrow.
Yep, not me.
Lindell is shipping me off to Texas to go to armory school.
What? What, you're not deploying? Nope.
I got six weeks of hard time for defending the Trident.
And I'm never gonna make that mistake again, I'll tell you that.
My God.
Sonny.
This sucks.
I am, I am so sorry.
Look, I know that being away from Bravo is already your worst nightmare, but, you know maybe don't throw any more gas on the fire.
What the hell is that supposed to mean? It means getting so wasted at the strip club that they have to call your emergency contact may not have been the smartest choice.
(CLEARS THROAT) Look, just trust me, the last thing you want is to face a DRB.
I'll tell you what.
The last thing I want is to have one more person tell me that I'm wrong.
Okay? 'Cause I got enough of that from my team already.
Enjoy your time in J-bad, there, Davis.
I'll see you around.
(DRAWER OPENS) (KNOCKING ON DOOR) Come on in.
What's on your mind, Master Chief? Oh, you're messing with the chemistry of my team, sir.
Not the best way to send Bravo outside the wire, by benching Sonny and filling Clay with the ideas of STA-21? They're professionals.
We'll have a body in-country fill in for Quinn until he rejoins the team if he rejoins the team.
He's a loose cannon, but he's the ultimate Team guy.
No, he's a poster boy for a culture that needs to change as the war on terror enters its third decade.
Right, I'd hate to see how the war on terror would've gone without pipe hitters like him.
We no longer operate fully in the shadows, and every PR nightmare undermines our ability to execute our duties effectively.
When my men are under fire, I'm not thinking about any kind of PR or headline, sir.
And that's a shortsighted attitude, Master Chief.
The needs of the Navy are evolving.
And chemistry or no, not everyone on Bravo will continue to fit the bill.
Are you here to win a war or get a promotion? Men like Perry, Spenser, they'll have no problem adapting.
But the sun is setting on the cowboys and the knuckle-draggers stuck in the past.
All that fruit salad you got on your uniform is because of cowboys like me.
Looks like you've been spending a little bit too much time behind that desk to know that we are on the same side.
Oh, I know we're on the same side.
Why do you think I've been trying to help you - figure out what's next? - That's right, sir.
You've been pushing me out the door.
How'd you put it? "Hang up your wetsuit".
I've been trying to wake you to a reality that you refuse to accept.
Sooner rather than later, the old guard will have to step aside so the next generation can take us into the future.
Sir.
(BEEPING) (DOOR OPENS) NATALIE: There you are.
I've been looking for you.
Is this part of your pre-deployment routine? Say goodbye to your stuff before you leave? Yeah, something like that.
Well, I'm done for the day.
Do you want to get out of here? I was thinking maybe a nice dinner out for our last night together.
Sounds good.
All right.
I thought we'd just go to a bar, but your idea's way better.
(BOTH LAUGH) Yeah.
Bar's not really my scene these days.
Oh, just as well.
Healthier way to clear my head.
Yeah? What needed clearing? Just getting ready for our next deployment, after having blown up my career on the last one.
Ray actually gave me some good advice.
He said, uh, "Rounds downrange stay downrange".
Don't let your last shot impact your next one.
You're, um, an asset no matter what your role is.
Thank you.
Speaking of rounds downrange Sonny? What about him? That club's his haunt.
You didn't take the call.
Uh, the truth is, I need all my focus on work in Afghanistan.
And Sonny's baggage is a distraction.
Well you're gonna do great over there.
You got this.
I found a contractor who said he can get the repairs done in three weeks.
Still waiting on two other bids.
Take a break.
It's our last night.
I can't leave you with this mess, honey.
I'm a Navy wife.
I can handle the move while you're away.
I'm not just talking about the move, honey.
- This whole Jameelah thing.
- Also won't be fixed in three weeks or two months.
Or even with one slumber party in the new house.
Yeah, but it might've helped.
(SCOFFS) Not settling into the new house with the family? I mean, just add it to the list of stuff I've missed.
(STAMMERS) Jameelah's first steps, the doctor confirming you were pregnant with RJ.
H-How many anniversaries and birthdays have I missed? This is the life we've chosen.
I never feel like I'm on my own.
But you will be, while I'm over there trying to help hand power to a group of people that I've been fighting since before you and I met.
I mean, the scales just don't feel balanced, honey.
- I-I - I-I'm gonna let you have this pity party tonight but tomorrow you need to trust that I can do my job.
So that you can do yours.
Not in the mood? With you leaving tomorrow, a girl might take it personally.
No, I just, uh, was just thinking about Sonny.
(STIFLED LAUGH) Probably not the best thing to say when we're in bed.
(CHUCKLES) He was out of line last night.
Yeah, I know.
It's just, uh, I feel bad for the guy.
Getting yanked off deployment, away from the team, the job he loves.
It's just (EXHALES) Let's hope he doesn't hit the self-destruct button while he's away.
Are you worried that giving up operating for the STA-21 is you hitting the self-destruct button? I mean, o-operating's all I've ever known.
You know, so if I get off the path that I'm on and I wind up lost, then where does that leave me? Well, you know where your current path leads you.
Where's that? Jason Hayes.
(DISTANT LAUGHTER, CHATTER) (HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING) Five, bro.
There we go.
- There we go.
- Hey, boys.
You know where, uh, room 111 is? Guess that makes us roommates.
(CHUCKLES) I'm Rashad.
It's down the hall, to the left.
I'd invite you to join the game, but, uh, we're on day three.
- (GROUP LAUGHS) - Yeah.
Yeah, I, uh, I prefer the live-action version.
MAN: Day three's about to end, bro, I'm gonna finish this.
(MELLOW MUSIC PLAYS) Mmm.
Wow.
I'll tell you what, that right there, - that's delicious.
- I can tell.
Okay.
You want some of this instead of that? This is also delicious.
- Oh, is that right? - You want to try some? No, you know, I'll tell you what, - I got too many greens on my plate as it is.
- Mm.
Plus, you know, I-I got to save room for dessert.
Always hit the soft serve spot around the corner before I ship out.
Well, we'll see if you finish your vegetables first.
All right.
Can you not just ? - Can I not ? - Just stop messing with what works for me.
Okay? Look, I got Sonny and Clay Ray, you know, all putting themselves before Bravo, I And Lindell, he's pushing me out the door.
(CLEARS THROAT) What do you mean Lindell's pushing you out? He's telling me to step aside, that's what he's saying.
You know, he's saying that change is coming and that I have to, uh step aside.
That's what he's saying.
Jason, I Well, I am not I'm not sure what to say.
What are you gonna do? How's that even a question? What do you mean, what am I gonna do? Look, I've done my job.
I filled your tank back up so you can operate into the foreseeable future.
- But I know Lindell, okay? - (EXHALES) And if he says changes are coming, they are.
Yeah, well, that's great.
You know what, I can't focus on that noise.
It's just With my team deploying tomorrow, I don't need to hear that.
Okay, I hear that.
But at some point, you are gonna have to step aside, and if these changes - are gonna make you miserable - Whoa.
I'm sorry.
"Step aside"? He put you up to that? - You been talking to him? - What? Yeah.
- Of course not.
- No? Look, I'm just saying, it's not like you have anything left to prove on the battlefield.
First of all, it's not about proving anything.
All right? Team needs its leader.
I take my eye off the target and people die.
- Jason, what about what you need? - They die.
I'm done.
(CLEARS THROAT) It's not just your body that's been scarred by decades of combat.
Would it really be the worst thing in the world if you chose to stop operating? Tell you what, in my world, yes.
- Of all people, you should know that.
- What are you Will you No.
Here.
That should cover - for your salad and the green beans.
- Can we please talk about Well, speaking of dirt and trash, my dear You're a ringtail leader 'Cause when it comes to slingin' mud, babe I've slung with the best of the slingers (HORSE NEIGHING) Son of a bitch.
Easy, easy.
Easy, easy.
Are you crazy? He can't see you.
You'll spook him.
He already looks pretty spooked.
Okay, then.
Get trampled.
Easy, easy.
Just move this way.
That's it.
Slow.
Slow.
That's it.
That's it.
See, we're gonna split his field of vision.
Yeah, it's okay.
It's okay, boy.
(CHUCKLES): Hey.
Good boy.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
(PATTING HORSE) You're okay.
Yeah, good boy.
Oh, you're spunky.
You're a spunky guy.
- (CHUCKLES) - You're welcome.
Yeah.
You're good.
Hey.
I didn't even realize that you were in town.
Training assignment at the base.
Well, uh, pretty long drive.
(CHUCKLES) You know, just laying your eyes on a place you haven't been to in years.
Yeah.
I got to get to work.
Okay, then.
Good luck to you.
Yeah.
You, too, Dad.
(ENGINE TURNS OFF) (CAR DOOR CLOSES) Hey.
Hi.
That wasn't how I wanted to spend your last night in town.
Yeah, you know, I shouldn't have stormed off, but, uh, we're getting into a conversation that That we don't have time to finish.
Look, I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I'm not Team Jason, because I am.
Yeah, I know you are.
I know.
It's just, you know, stepping away decision's not just about me.
(SIGHS) I almost lost half of Bravo this past week, and if I hadn't worked the problem, things would have been worse.
I have a list of names that are in my phone of brothers that aren't with me anymore, and if I'm not out there, that list grows.
I split focus.
Look what happens when I split focus.
I mean, you know, Sonny gets benched.
He goes off the rails.
I almost lose him.
Lindell is poaching Clay.
I Okay, "split focus".
You You mean me.
I You're the one that wanted to be all in.
I really thought that I could be all in with Bravo and with you.
I was wrong.
Bravo Team needs me more than you do right now.
But what about you, Jason? What do you need? I don't know.
I don't know what I need.
(CAR DOOR OPENS) (ENGINE STARTS) (INDISTINCT CHATTER OVER RADIO) This oddly feels like when I was 12 and my boyfriend went to summer camp.
Did you just compare my kissing to a 12-year-old boy's? Mm.
Glad to see your terrible sense of humor is back, now that the weight of the world is off your shoulders.
The decision was the easy part.
Now I just got to figure out how to tell the guys.
Smart guy like you? You'll figure it out.
Gonna miss you, Admiral Spenser.
RAY: Don't you grow up too fast, little man.
And take it easy on your mommy while Daddy's gone, okay? Okay.
I love you.
(GRUNTS) Hey.
I love you.
I love you, too.
Be safe.
Always am.
Hey.
I don't want you to go.
I know, baby girl, but Daddy has to.
You're definitely coming back? Promise you won't die over there? I promise.
Teena says she'll go with you and keep you safe.
Baby, I-I don't Oh.
(SIGHS) I love you, baby girl.
I love you, too.
(INDISTINCT CHATTER) RAY: Jason.
How many times we done this walk? Too many to count.
- This one feels longer.
- Yeah.
Looked a little rough back there for you.
Yeah, a lot more trouble than usual.
Yeah.
Saw you drove yourself in.
- Yeah.
- Everything okay with Natalie? Got the flu.
- Sorry to hear that, brother.
- Yeah, me, too.
- You want to talk about it? - Nope.
Just want to go to work.
