Well, it's not hard to figure out what the desire was here.
Well, the killer was clearly trying to send a message.
That he couldn't stand this couple's relationship.
So, what? We think maybe she had a jealous stalker? Or an angry ex.
We need to talk to anyone who had a problem with this relationship.
See, we've got this, Lieutenant.

Which one of them was married? Well, no weddings rings, so, neither of them, obviously.
But good on you for participating.
Has anyone checked their chest cavities yet? What? Why would we do that? In the 50s, there was a guy named Clark Hoffman.
He was known for making his victims swallow their wedding rings.
Right, the Broken Hearts Killer.
PIERCE: By the time they caught him, he'd killed seven cheating couples in L.

His crime scenes were about as gruesome as this.
Wow, you really know a lot about this.
The cop who solved the case was an old mentor of mine.
And didn't Hoffman die a few days ago in prison? Making him a particularly useless addition to this conversation.
Unless his death inspired a copycat.
Or maybe they're using this as an MO to throw us off.

Place was wiped clean, just like the first crime scene.
I mean, this killer, you guys, whoever he Or she is, total pro.
Well, Emma's alibi checks out.
There's no obvious connection between the couples.
I just wonder how the killer's picking his targets.
Well, Lieutenant, as our resident Broken Hearts expert, wouldn't you say it's time to enlighten us with your wisdom? No one knew how the original killer chose his victims.
I guess we just got lucky we caught him when we did.

We got to get back to the station, figure out a connection between these victims.

Because, unfortunately, we don't have enough evidence to arrest him.

He would sit in that booth right there - with his old files when Nana worked.
- [CHUCKLES.]

It's a radio show that sets up cheating couples.
See, Chance brings someone on who thinks their spouse is cheating, and then, he calls the cheater pretending to be a candy shop giving away free chocolates as a promotion, and asks who they should send it to.
- How thrilling.
- Right? And then, the person either names their partner and "Aw, happy ending," or they name someone else, and expose their dirty, cheating ways.
Oh, it's so juicy.
So it turns out, both couples had a significant other that appeared on the show.
LUCIFER: So we're assuming that our killer listens to this juvenile program? We've narrowed our suspects down to anyone who doesn't have satellite radio, and Ms.
Lopez.
Actually, the addresses are beeped out.
Probably for reasons like this.
Okay, so the killer has to be somebody that works on the show.
Someone with access to this info? Right.
So we need to make ourselves the target, and flush the killer out.
Great idea.

We'll give out my home address and lure the killer there.
