Project Runway: All Stars (2012) s04e02 Episode Script
The Art of Construction
Previously on Project Runway: All Stars How are you? I'm doing good.
We've invited two former winners of project runwato join you.
I think it's really unfair to have returning winners come back.
They're gonna [Bleep.]
up, and we're gonna be there to step right up when they do.
We're gonna split you into two groups.
Your collections will be inspired by either New York's uptown scene or New York's downtown scene.
Boys? Downtown.
Girls, you guys have the uptown collection.
I'll see you on the runway tomorrow.
[Bleep.]
.
This detail feels a little bit too bohemian.
Kate's dress would be the one dress that the uptown girl would not be wearing.
The winning collection-- the boys' downtown looks.
Fabio, I love your design.
This dress feels so free, and I love that juxtaposition.
Thank you.
This week's winning designer is fabio.
Thank you so much.
I think that's something you want to watch is your fabrication.
I don't really feel much from it.
Sadly, you missed me, because you made the dress too tight.
The eliminated designer tonight is Patricia.
[Shouting wildly.]
from Project Runway are back And this time the competition is bigger than ever.
Each week their skills are tested to the limit, as they compete for the largest prize in runwahistory.
Who will be cut And who will have it all sewn up? This is Project Runway: All Stars.
So what do you think today's challenge is gonna be? Uh-oh.
What's behind that gate? I see the All Stars sign, and I don't know what's behind this door.
All I can think is, "what in the hell did I get myself into?" [All pounding on door.]
Open the door! All: Whoo! The roller door opens.
Oh, my Before us is this massive, like, vacuous warehouse.
Hard hats? Oh.
Oh.
I don't want to lose a finger.
Good morning, designers.
All: Good morning.
Welcome to skylight at moynihan station, one of New York's most cutting-edge fashion week venues, where designers like Phillip lim and rag & bone show each season.
But as you can see, it is currently under construction.
So this is your challenge.
It's the one runway fans love, but all designers fear.
It's The unconventional challenge.
[Cackling.]
It's too soon.
Like, can I make a pretty dress or something, like, out of material that I shop at mood for? So, Jay, you won your unconventional challenge your season.
It was amazing.
Basically, I made trash bags look like leather.
Sam, you also won.
Yes.
We went to a hardware store and to a flower shop.
And, Helen and Kate, you worked together, right? We made a fabulous dress out of red sombreros.
I've been around the unconventional block a time or two.
It's really tough, but when you see that piece walking down the runway, it's all worth it, 'cause it's unlike anything you could ever do with fabric.
Well, the art of construction is a crucial aspect of the design process.
However, this is probably the least fashionable place I can imagine.
So your challenge is to take these masculine materials and turn them into the most feminine outfits possible.
Whatever you can find here, you can take to the workroom.
The construction workers? [Laughter.]
I would love to take a construction worker back.
In their work vest.
You know, maybe just look at 'em for a little bit.
Whoo! You got to leave the men, but you can take their clothes.
Oh! Take their protective gear.
But be careful.
The judges and I want to see how inventive you are, so you'll be judged on originality, as well as how feminine you can make your design.
And the QVC accessories will help Polish your looks.
You will have 15 minutes.
To what? What? To collect your materials.
I see lightbulbs and twine and all of these things that not in a million years would I think I could make a dress out of.
I will see all of you on the runway tomorrow.
Your 15 minutes Starts now.
[Air horn blares.]
[Imitating air horn blaring.]
Jeez, Louise.
Oh, my God.
Okay, let's do this, guys.
We go from team challenge, where everyone is working together, and it's like, "oh, let me help you" Wow, that was just rude.
Into, like, animalistic mayhem.
No, don't touch those! I'll kick your asses in! I can't even process what's there.
I'm just, like, grabbing random things.
I'll take this.
I saw all of the zip ties.
I thought maybe I can create some kind of a texture.
Oh, honey, give this to me.
[Laughs.]
Where does it end, for God's sake? Miss Alexandria gets a little possessed by the construction demons.
Hey! Hey, you're stealing my [Bleep.]
! Oh, this is--I'm sorry.
All right, you need to relax.
You don't really need to get that worked up about it.
I just feel like there's no need to talk to me like that.
It's just not that serious.
This is Project Runway: All Stars.
This isn't kiddie camp.
Time's up, people.
If anyone needs anything, Alex has it.
[Yelps.]
I think that I thought of all the elements i need to make a garment, and if people want to judge that, that's fine.
I couldn't care less.
I'm here to win it.
Are you okay? [Laughs.]
Whoo! Where's my table? Look at all these fun tools.
I wish I had a concept at this point, but I just have a trash bin full of hardware supplies.
I have a wound from losing on season 12, so I'm here on All Stars to show the kids that I teach at camp couture that sometimes you don't win, but that doesn't mean you should give up.
And it's about trying again till you get what you want.
So here I am.
Since Project Runway season 12, I've been a professor at north Carolina state in the college of design.
I've been working on my own collection on top of that.
After my season, I did visual merchandising for a living-- dressing mannequins, doing product layouts.
Currently, I'm concentrating on making wedding dresses.
But winning this whole entire competition could catapult my career to a whole new level.
I want to make a piece of art, not a piece of crap.
I decide to go with a white color palette to create this gown that I'm working on, but I'm dealing with paper and plastic.
It's not gonna flow like chiffon.
It's just not.
Millions and millions of flowers.
This challenge is all about thinking outside the box, and Kate's doing another wedding dress.
2 million to go.
That's your piece, yeah.
I wanted some white fencing.
Thankfully, I had material that I could trade with him.
Thank you, sir.
So, all of a sudden, I'm thinking, "oh, my God, are we doing the same thing?" Well, mine's fitted.
Yours is gonna be fitted.
So I'm gonna have volume in mine, with black and white.
Maybe there's gonna be a vague similarity in part of the concept, but they're not gonna be the same thing.
Yes.
We'll see, won't we? Yeah.
I grabbed the blue tarp because it was the piece that's closest to fabric.
I want to create this feathery-looking piece, but as I was cutting it with scissors, the material's not fraying automatically.
Oh, interesting.
[Tarp ripping loudly.]
Sorry, guys.
Jay is, like, shredding this tarp, making probably the most obnoxious sound I've ever heard.
I had to rip the whole thing by hand throughout the whole entire morning.
It's going to be great, I think.
It's a lot of work.
I should start the draping on the form right away, because I know we don't have a lot of time.
So I have to act quick to see the idea that I have in my mind.
I've been wanting to do a chevron like this.
Oh, that's pretty.
With, like, hanging Tina Turner shaky beads Mm.
To give it some movement.
[Singing indistinctly.]
Exactly.
Yeah, exactly.
To create this textile, I'm first getting my color palette together, taking these construction-worker vests and painting the orange green, then creating strips of different colors.
I want there to be various-sized stripes in the chevron.
I really want this to be an interesting pattern, 'cause I think that's what's gonna make the dress.
I'm making the body of the dress from this tarp, and I'm almost done with it, but I think I hate it.
So I have to go with a plan "b.
" But hopefully with my amazing skills, I can make it happen.
I'm looking over at dmitry's mannequin, saying, "what is going on here?" It's like he looked at what I was doing and then started doing it.
Mother[Bleep.]
.
What's up? I'm gonna kill him.
Huh? He had a whole green dress going, but then he was upset about it.
He came over here, and he was looking around.
I noticed.
And then he did that.
Bitch stole your look.
Bitch stole your look.
Now what am I gonna do? [Bleep.]
.
I have to change it.
Chris, are you making your lower part of your garment from a different-- I'm making it red.
Right, okay.
Good.
Because I was making it black, but I guess you are, so No, originally, i had the green base and this rope on top, but I got rid of the green base.
Well The only reason that he's upset is that my piece looks better than his.
You okay? I don't know.
Since season 10 of Project Runway, I've focused on what I really wanted to do with my time, which is have a fashion label.
So I partnered with my best friend, and right away we put a collection out, but my company at home is hanging by a thread.
Last week I won the first challenge, so I do have what it takes to win Project Runway: All star, and that's what I hope for, and that's why I'm here.
Oh, my.
Hello, all-stars.
Hello.
All: Hi.
How we doing? So it's the legendary unconventional challenge, and it looks like you actually brought the entire construction site into this room.
Now, personally, I don't care if you've been given just tarps and nails.
I want to see them transformed into something feminine, dreamy, and most of all, fashion-forward.
So I'm gonna see how that's going.
You're quilting it? I have to, like, wind the twine here.
[Laughs.]
Yeah, yeah, I know.
It's a contraption.
I don't want it to look too mummified.
Right.
She looks like she's just been wrapped in muslin.
So I was immediately attracted to these cords in all different colors.
Wow.
So I've macrame'd the front, and all these loops are gonna be corseted together with rubber surgical tubing.
Love a corset.
I like things that are tight and sexy.
But I need it to look like fashion, and I don't want it to look like you're just looking at a load of rope.
Yeah.
So where have we ended up? Well, I'm kind of knitting the whole piece.
Wow.
So I don't know if I'll be able to finish it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I hear the concern.
Look around the room as well, and make sure it's different from everyone else's bungee dresses.
I don't think it's a big deal, because a lot of people are using the same materials, so They are, but your two, for me right now, feel the most similar.
Tell me about this belt hardware detail.
I really wanted to just come up with, like, an accessory with a hard edge.
This is a standout for me right now, but you just need something else that's feminine as well.
Okay.
I don't know.
I don't like anything sharp.
I think you have to do whatever's gonna make it not look like burlap with tiles stuck on it.
It looks like two hands, like, grabbing round.
In a bad way, though? Right now in a bad way, yeah, because she's completely naked.
Right, right, right.
You've got to have an undergarment that really looks quite expensive.
Okay.
I don't want it to look like one of those curtains that separates two rooms in a cheap bar.
[Gasps.]
This back is beautiful.
This will be lined with this, the whole thing.
Okay.
Just be careful with this as a lining, 'cause, you know, I don't want to be able to see trash bags underneath her.
Oh.
So you've created your own fabric.
I have, and it'll go on a chevron pointing down towards the hemline.
Does that feel a bit sporty? It does.
I'm a bit sporty.
I hope the judges don't think my kind of sporty style is a non-feminine, more masculine style.
That would be a tootin' shame.
All right, so the netting will be on the outside of the dress? Yes, yes, yes.
It's kind of goth and a little bit spooky.
Okay.
Just because something's black doesn't mean it's gothic.
Yeah, you don't want to send a witchy look down that runway.
You want to keep it more Marchesa.
I'm feeling that this cinderella-esque moment, I've seen you do many times before.
You have to get out of your wheelhouse.
Otherwise, Georgina, Isaac, and Alyssa are gonna just hammer you for not doing something new and original.
It's a runway, Kate, not a wedding aisle.
[Laughs.]
Tell me what this was.
This was the vest that the construction workers wore.
[Laughs.]
That's great.
I can't tell it was a vest.
Yeah.
Do you think it's feminine enough? Okay, all-stars, the issue now is to make these pieces look like runway-worthy fashion.
Good luck tonight and extra good luck on the runway tomorrow.
All: Thank you.
Thanks, Zanna.
After Zanna leaves, sonjia is pretty, like, heartbroken.
I didn't get a wow factor from Zanna, and because she didn't make me feel that great about it, i just felt like I had to change it up a little bit.
Sonjia scraps her entire design and starts over with caution tape, which could look and read just like caution tape.
I'm really concerned.
And she's only got, like, two hours, so Holy hell, girl.
This will be the first and last time that I ever use construction items.
That I can promise you.
Hi, watch out for the paints.
Hi.
Watch your step.
You're in a danger zone.
[Squeals.]
How are you? Mwah.
Good to see you.
We went to a construction site where there were two gorgeous construction workers, and we had 15 minutes-- did they whistle at you? No, they were busy working.
Cute.
It's gonna be heavy.
Whoo! I'm okay.
I hope that you have something to wear tomorrow.
By the end of the day, i will have a skirt.
Promise.
All right.
Thank you for helping.
Go, team.
[Chuckles.]
Can I have you just hold it up right there? Alexandra's look-- she look like a rat running around in a subway with, like, [Bleep.]
Chicken wire around her waist.
Turn to the side when you walk through doors, girl.
She doesn't fit.
Ah.
Alexandria's dress looks like the girl was out all night long, she might still be a little drunk, and fell into a construction site and was like, "oh, i got fence on my skirt.
Oh, damn.
Ugh.
" Walk normal.
I mean, not normal, but, you know, like a-- i am freaking out, 'cause nothing wants to do what I want it to do.
And I don't think it's fair to say, "hey, go make a cake, and make it taste really good, but use soap.
" Good [Bleep.]
luck.
Both: Bye.
No clubbing.
Bye, sweetheart.
Love you.
No clubbing, no hickeys! Don't ruin their fun.
Hey, guys, 30 minutes.
So much [Bleep.]
to do, it don't even make sense.
You better work, bitch.
Everyone's a little frantic.
You know, I think that people who have these grand ideas were not able to execute all of them as fast as they wanted to, and you see that little bit of nervousness starting to, like, peek its way through.
[Whimpering.]
Are you exhausted? No, I'm not exhausted.
I'm just tired of people looking at mine and then copying it.
[Gasps.]
Ooh, snap.
I hear you.
It's better to be stolen from than to have to steal.
Right.
I don't want it to look bridal-like.
So, thankfully, i got some black zip ties, and I just started adding that to the top part so it looked like the ombre effect.
It should make it a little bit more feminine and elegant at the same time.
Sonjia, do you think maybe just even, like, stitching it with yellow thread once? Like, aren't you possibly worried the tape might just-- I am now.
You giving it a little stress test? Oh, it just untaped a little bit.
Did it? Oh, see? That's the worry.
This girl could end up naked halfway down the runway.
A naked girl is not a good look.
Guys, it's time to go.
It's time to drop the glue guns and wire cutters and-- the hope? And the hope.
[Laughter.]
How the hell did this happen? Ooh, such a mess.
It just looks crazy.
It looks a hot mess.
Oh, my God.
Where were the magic elves? Who left this mess? I'm back.
[Tarp ripping loudly.]
Anybody home? [Chuckling.]
How you doing, Justin? Good.
Just have to weave all of this, then put the lining, and then I'm good.
Benjamin and I had a similar idea at the beginning, but toward to the end of the day, our look became so different.
And we are both very relieved.
I need my model.
Hello.
Good morning.
Hey.
Still trying to finish here.
Like, at home, I would never do something like this.
Get it over your bust.
I'm in a really good place.
I'm not running around frantically.
I'm actually setting myself up, what I think, for success.
Yes, kasey.
Good job.
I'll put on my fierce face.
Yeah, get that fierce face on.
I think in order for Kate to not make another wedding-dress look, we need a challenge that has to do with, like, funeral or something.
Sorry.
You're caught.
Oh.
[Laughs.]
[Laughs.]
Alexandria's look-- i think it's atrocious, and I think it's missing a bird in the cage.
Time to take the models down to the chi hair care salon.
I think maybe we should go very young and effortless.
She's off to a cocktail party.
Like a messy knot.
Soft, not so '20s that it screams it.
You love it? I love it.
I go into the Mary Kay color design studio.
Really simple, soft.
First blush.
Love it.
I want her makeup to be a little bit edgier.
Do the black right in the center.
Perfect, yeah.
What's the feeling? Geisha.
Little bit of firecracker? Pretty.
Don't be afraid to, like-- [Laughs.]
It looks amazing on her.
I am feeling very confident with my look because I know the amount of work I put into it.
I mean, I can't even feel my fingers right now, so that must mean something.
Oh, my God.
Justin is a genius.
You have no idea what these materials are, and I think that that's a true transformation.
I really wish I had thought of that.
Ten minutes, guys.
Ten minutes.
But she's still getting her makeup done.
I would go get her.
Let me know, like, if the sleeve's a little out of control.
Jay's look is not even a little feminine.
It looks so harsh that it's almost like it walked out of a die hard movie.
I'm making a mess.
Completely afraid of what the judges are gonna say when they see that walk down the runway from me.
[Sighs.]
Five minutes, guys.
Like, seriously? How heavy is it-- like, scale of one to ten? Nine.
My only goal was to be done and actually have an outfit.
Time's up! Runway! But I feel really good about it.
I'm like, "wow.
" Like, "go, girl.
You go, girl.
" Wait, we need a clutch.
We need a clutch.
This one.
All right.
Let's go.
The winner of Project Runway: All Stars will be given the chance to create their own capsule collection with QVC and will appear on QVC's spring fashion week, a fashion spread in Marie clairand a position at the magazine as a contributing editor for one year.
Chi hair care will send the winner to stay in a luxury spa resort as a special guest at their international conference in Cancun, Mexico, plus product and staff for an entire year of runway shows, from Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional makeup-artist services for their debut show, and from Brother Sewing and embroidery, a complete sewing and crafting studio to launch their line, and $150,000 in cash.
[Chuckling.]
All: Aw.
How cute.
Oh, you guys, that's so sweet.
You're gonna make me cry.
Thank you.
[Laughter.]
Hi, designers.
All: Hi.
This week we took the art of construction to new heights with the notorious unconventional challenge.
You were asked to transform traditionally masculine materials into feminine fashion.
Let's meet tonight's judges.
First, designer and cofounder of luxury brand Marchesa, Georgina Chapman.
Hi, designers.
All: Hello.
Next, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, Isaac Mizrahi.
All: Hi.
Our first guests have simply become pop-culture phenomena.
From the Jersey shore to the red carpets of Hollywood, both have taken their popularity and turned them into major brands.
On their hit TV shows, they're known as snooki and jwoww, but tonight welcome Nicole polizzi and jenni farley.
Hi, guys.
Hey, guys.
[Laughter.]
Our next guest came to New York with just $30 in his pocket.
He now runs the largest design studio on fifth Avenue.
Please welcome back a friend of Project Runway: All Stars, elie tahari.
Hi, designers.
This is one of the most anticipated runways of the season, so let's get started.
Good luck.
[Smooches.]
All: Thank you.
I think the whole look is really strong.
It's dramatic and edgy.
She's a warrior, a geisha warrior.
I love it.
It's perfect.
It's absolutely perfect.
It's a fun, flirty silhouette.
I'm in really good shape.
It fits her perfect.
The whole picture-- you had the hard.
You had the soft.
It really embodied the challenge.
I'm really proud of this look.
It does look like fabric.
It doesn't look like tarp.
It looks like leather.
It's kind of cool.
I'm very happy.
It's stunning.
I think she's absolutely adorable.
It's charming, and it's something that I want in my closet.
I love it.
I think it's super cool and futuristic.
It just looks fierce.
I mean, the fit is impeccable.
I honestly feel like I could be in the top.
I feel like I have a very modern design.
The concept could translate very easily into high-fashion fabrics.
I feel like my chances could be good.
My model's walking like she's Beyonce.
It's a really, really pretty look.
The chains are slapping the floor when she walks.
It's awesome.
I like how it looks.
I wish that I had more time.
From the waist up, it's amazing.
I just really wish that I was able to do more with the skirt.
I'm just hoping that I'm safe today.
I'm a little bit disappointed that I did not do as much as I wanted to do.
Ooh.
Oh, hello.
[Chuckles.]
Oh, my God, her ass is showing.
I wish I had done more and that I could've done what I originally set out to do.
I'm really bummed out and frustrated.
I love the way it moves.
I feel like I really took the challenge and turned it into this very feminine pretty dress.
I'm proud of myself.
So pretty.
It looks beautiful on her.
The lighting is making the zip tie glitter.
She looks amazing on the runway.
I am very happy with it.
Now, if I call your name, please step forward.
Dmitry and fabio Gunnar and Benjamin Helen and sonjia And Sam [Laughs.]
The seven of you are safe.
Thank you very much for your work, and we'll see you next week.
All: Thank you.
Good luck.
Designers, one of you is the winner this week, and one of you is going home.
Kate, tell us about your materials and how you used them.
For the bodice, it's the back of what tiles are on.
The flowers that you see are made out of drawer liner, as is the skirt, and then the bust cups are made out of these lightbulb cages.
I love and Adore that you took the back of tiles to make a souffle.
That's fabulous.
I would like to see it longer somehow.
It looks like a little girl getting married.
It's not a mature person.
For me, this is arts and crafts-y and almost a little lingerie-esque.
Georgina, what do you think? Do you agree? No, I don't, actually.
[Laughing.]
I don't.
I think it's very sweet.
You managed to transform it into something very pretty, which is so against the grain of going to a construction site, and I think that's what i like the best.
It's fun.
It's light.
When I think of dainty, woman, pretty, that's what I think of.
Totally agree.
And I'm in bride mode.
So that's all she thinks-- so I have to say, this is my favorite, and I want to wear it for my wedding.
[Laughter.]
Thank you, Kate.
Michelle, let's move on to you.
I created the textile and the dress using construction-worker vests, paint, and a lot of sweat.
It's very, very creative.
It actually reminds me of duct tape.
I duct-tape everything.
I definitely think it's feminine, which I like to wear.
To pull material from construction and to create this color story, it's amazing.
The colors are beautiful.
Yeah, I think you did a really beautiful job with the textile.
I just feel like the silhouette was an afterthought.
I expect so much from you.
This is not enough.
It just looks like another pretty dress on the dress floor in any department store.
You could've done something very graphic and very clever.
I just think you need to up your game a little bit.
Thank you, Michelle.
Justin.
I used zip ties and white fencing.
It looks amazing, and she look very elegant.
Can you turn around? I just want to see the back of it.
I love that.
That's like some kind of wonderful bird.
The one thing I would watch is the bustline.
Under her arms, it's getting a little bit funny.
There's this area that a woman is really sensitive to, and I call it boob fat.
We don't want any boob fat.
No boob fat.
Yes, I hate the boob fat.
It doesn't look right.
I don't like it.
But otherwise, it's perfection.
I love this dress.
It reads like futuristic bird feathers, and the proportion is absolutely perfect.
This dress showed what a smart designer you are.
You picked the right silhouette for the material.
It's absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Alexandria, you're up.
I used tarp for the dress and paint to make it black, and I used a plastic fencing material for this part of the dress.
The main part of your body-- which is a wonderful idea of having this little black cocktail--is not terribly flattering on her.
And the silhouette is taking it so '80s that it's almost becoming a caricature of itself.
There's something about the texture of that black dress that is upsetting.
You're supposed to make it beautiful, and I don't think this is beautiful.
I'm sorry--I can't find anything I like about it.
It reminds me of a spider, and I'm arachnophobic.
[Laughs.]
And I feel like it's just a little too costume-y.
Elie tahari.
I think that she's very smart.
It's feminine.
It's original in design.
So you hit the mark on those things.
Thank you.
Jay.
I wanted to create this feathery look to it by fraying the tarp, and I wanted to juxtapose it with this really hard necklace, using nails.
Lots of people did use the tarp, but I think that you're the only one that used it really, really well.
And that necklace [Gasps.]
It's amazing.
Thank you.
The lightness of the dress with the heaviness of the necklace, I think, works very well.
It takes it away from being a tarp.
It almost reads like a lacquered tweed.
I love the sleeve.
I think that makes it fresh.
I don't like the necklace.
I'm not one to kind of like a very sharp thing around someone's neck.
I guess there's something dangerous.
That's why you like it, Alyssa.
She likes dangerous clothes, right? Like my men.
I don't.
Ooh, okay.
[Laughter.]
Do you remember when we tried to make a garbage-bag dress? Did not look anything like that.
This looks like a fabulous garbage-bag dress.
[Laughter.]
Chris.
What I used were these cords, cable ties, some wire.
I like this effect.
It kind of looks like beading a little bit, so that's why I did it that way.
This actually looks like something i would wear at 3:00 A.
M.
with Nicole at a nightclub.
I don't see the high fashion.
The breast on her left, it just feels like there's gaps and I'm trying to look for a nipple.
I feel like--it's supposed to be that way? It's lined with stuff so you can't see the nipples.
Well, I'm trying to look for it, so it's distracting.
I don't like the top.
I don't think it works in any way, but the skirt, to me, is so fabulous.
The materials look like the materials, and I'm not sort of looking, trying to figure it out.
It looks to me like this isn't what you wanted to do.
Yeah.
Okay.
And I changed my design, because after I had been working on mine all day, a couple other people changed their designs, and they looked like mine.
And I didn't have time to finish.
The advice I give to you is, forget what other people are doing.
Just be you, Chris.
Thank you.
Thank you, designers.
Obviously, there's a lot of mixed reviews here, so we have a lot to talk about.
You guys can go hang out in the lounge, and we'll call you back.
Hey.
Hey, guys.
Hi.
It was a mixed range.
I have never won one challenge in the entire Project Runway.
Oh! So I'm crossing my fingers about it.
Crossing.
Crossing for you.
Let's start with Kate.
I was the only one that didn't like Kate's.
I thought it looked expensive.
I thought that it was an interesting-- you did? Yeah, I really did.
I thought it looked Frederick's of Hollywood catalog.
I thought it was interesting that she came out with something so feminine from such masculine materials, but that's really as far as I would take it.
I wouldn't say it was one of the best, but it was-- it was the best.
[Laughs.]
Get out of bridal mode.
Bloop.
Justin.
Justin just made it look so beautiful.
I think it was a perfect little dress.
I like the fact that the black bled into the white.
If you noticed, when she was walking, it actually made noise.
[Dress rustling.]
People are gonna see you, but they're also gonna hear you, and I like that.
I saw, like, sort of Jennifer Lawrence on the runway, falling in that dress.
[Laughter.]
Only if she's falling.
Jay.
I think he was the only one that used these tarps in an interesting way.
It was a great marriage, i thought, of silhouette and fabric and color.
That color will look good on any woman, I think.
It's true.
It's so striking.
It's very complementary.
He did a wonderful job.
Now let's talk about our low scores.
Chris.
There was something very creative.
Just the ropes going around, it's a beautiful silhouette.
The top was a disaster, but there is something about that design that I found, personally, very compelling.
I'm interested in who that girl is.
Alexandria.
[Inhales sharply.]
This was, like, one of my favorites.
I was so disappointed to hear all of the negativity.
That dress had the glamour, had the femininity.
Definitely very strong.
It should've been a feminine shape, but unfortunately, it flattened her chest.
It made her look straight up and down.
She took tarp and made it look worse than tarp, you know.
[Chuckles.]
We're gonna have to fight for this one.
Michelle didn't take a risk.
She went with something I saw on Austin powers a thousand times.
Alexandria's dress-- I couldn't rest my eyes on it for very long, because I would start screaming if I had to, seriously.
At least it gave you a reaction, where I feel like Michelle's didn't even give me a reaction.
I'm looking at it like, "I just saw 20 of those.
" You're going boring, but there is something elegant about Michelle's dress.
I think it's a good length.
It shows her arms beautifully.
Instinctually, I go, Michelle seems like she could bring something to this.
Okay, which one would you go to a black-tie dinner with? I would stay home.
[Laughter.]
I would starve.
So are we all comfortable with that decision? Let's bring 'em back out.
Designers, one of you is the winner this week, and one of you is going home.
Designers, this challenge really tested your skills as all-stars.
Some of you rose to the challenge, and others.
.
Not so much.
Kate, you're safe, and you can leave the runway.
Thank you all.
Good job.
Thank you, guys.
Good luck.
Jay and Justin, one of you is the winner this week.
And that designer is Justin.
Yay.
[Chuckles.]
Congratulations.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you.
I'm happy that I finally won something.
Yay! [Laughs.]
It's about time.
Chris, you had a low score But you are safe.
Oh, my God.
Thank you.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you.
Michelle and Alexandria, tonight one of you will be in, and one of you will be out.
Michelle, this week you delivered a perfectly fine simple striped dress, but that was exactly the problem.
You didn't take a risk.
And again, as a previous runway winner, we expect so much more from you.
Alexandria, your design concept was creative and clear, but the challenge was to present a feminine look, and your dress was more like an '80s costume.
This week the eliminated designer is [Suspenseful music.]
Alexandria Which means, Michelle, you can stay in the competition.
Thank you.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you.
Alexandria, thank you so much for joining us here on All Stars.
I wish you all the best for your future.
I'm a huge fan of yours.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I don't feel I deserve to go home.
I know what I'm capable of, and I know what I do, and I know what sells.
[Applause.]
I'm not a construction worker, guys.
Oh.
Oh, stop.
There's absolutely no tears.
Like, I know what I can do-- just not construction.
I'm not a crafter at all.
I can't be defined by tarp and plastic mesh.
I don't do plastic.
I do wonderful things.
I know I do.
Next on Project Runway: All Stars How about this for an entrance? Oh, my God.
Your challenge is to create a couture-inspired gown which conveys feelings of wicked or good.
Let's make this a fashion face-off.
Oh, boy.
We might be enemies in a day or two.
It sucks that I have to go against Chris.
He's one of my closest friends here.
This is boring as hell.
It's dullsville.
Everybody else seemed to conform to the couture-gown thing except you.
You're surprised? This dress was not right for this challenge.
It's wonderfully, wickedly wrong.
For more information on tonight's show, go to mylifetime.
com.
