Falling Skies s04e03 Episode Script
Exodus
Previously on Falling Skies Where is she?! Whenever you asked about the hybrid, it feared the west.
That's where she is.
There is no war here.
Her DNA's a mutation -- part human, part alien.
I don't want these powers.
They're getting stronger.
The green barrier.
To go over it, you need one of these.
We are creating a new, frontline army.
You and your family can be spared from the great transformation.
.
I made a deal.
We're getting out of here -- all the way out.
Southeast guys are right on time.
Come on, guys.
Just a little bit further.
Come on, guys.
The wall's supposed to be down by now.
Come on! My favorite Zeppelin? "Led Zeppelin II.
" "Lemon Song" alone is enough to earn the title.
"II," huh? What about "IV"? You got "Black Dog," "Stairway To Heaven," I mean, come on.
When did you become a Zeppelin fan? The second I heard it.
I can tell you what my least favorite Zeppelin is.
Let me guess.
It's thatgiant alien one flying around, monitoring all activity in camp.
Actually, it's "CODA.
" "CODA's" pretty bad.
What was it like up there? Scary.
I learned a few things, though.
They're gonna be taking us out of here with plans to skitterize us all.
That's happening in 48 hours.
That Zeppelin is the command and control center for the whole perimeter.
And that tether -- we cut that tether, we cut the power to the walls.
You say that like it's pretty easy.
That's a tall order.
I know.
There's a lot that could go wrong.
I tell you one thing I'm not worried about, though -- it's you.
You're gonna do great.
When we get out of here -- we're gonna take the fight to them.
A Faraday suit works because the current from the fence distributes charges onto the suit in such a way that they cancel the current's effects inside the suit.
Okay.
I get that.
For how long, though? Uh, 90 seconds or so.
Or until what little copper solder we have fails.
So, what do you do, exactly? You just put on the suit and walk through the wall? No.
The wall's electrical current is concentrated at the center.
Yeah.
The suit can only withstand superficial contact.
That's why I have to climb one of those giant sticks, go right over the top, and climb down.
Aren't the obelisks electrified, too? No.
Well, yes.
But not at the voltage levels in the center of the wall.
The suit can take it.
I know.
I've done it.
Uh What kind of charges am I using to blow the tether? Ammonium nitrate.
Ammonium nitrate? You realize the volatility of ammonium nitrate? This suit isn't strong enough -- It's all we have.
This is a situation where every single thing must go right.
We don't have a choice.
Don't worry.
We can do this.
You are not the one wearing a homemade trash can for protection, my friend.
You found Lexi in the woods meeting with an Espheni.
Are you sure? I'm sure.
God, she's been telling us to lay down our weapons.
This whole time, she's been meeting with the enemy.
What do you think it means? Is she conspiring? I don't know.
On one hand, you've been safe here like she said you would be.
And on the other hand, she could be setting us up for something.
You were right.
Well, there's a first time for everything.
Um, we can't just go off half-cocked, you know? It's -- it's different here.
I can see that.
Let's just take a beat I thought you threw those away.
I was going to.
I almost did when she stopped that mech, but I guess I thought I needed to hang on to them, just in case.
In case of what? In case all this sanctuary here turned out too good to be true.
I got to say, you look more like yourself with those.
She lied to me, Ben, she lied to all of us, and I bought it.
I don't like being betrayed.
Let's just talk to her first.
If she's meeting with the enemy and she's not telling us about it, she's just gonna lie.
I'm not even sure she's capable of lying.
Let's just give her the benefit of the doubt.
She's earned that.
She's still my sister, Maggie.
Okay.
But I'm bringing my guns.
Today is a very special day.
One of our graduates has come back having done some exemplary work in the field.
I am sure you will all remember Sheila! Sheila has rescued several holdouts who were in bad shape.
They will be fed, clothed, seen to, and transferred to one of our transitional facilities.
She was also able to find some folks that are very special to her, personally.
Sheila, would you like to introduce our guests? This is Bill and Martha, my parents.
Now, Bill, tell the students what life was like out there before your daughter rescued you.
We were starving, sick.
But thanks to Sheila, I realized how wrong it was to resist.
She helped me to see how important it is that we accept the new paradigm, join hands with the Espheni to forge a better world.
Bill and Martha are going to be escorted to an adult camp to learn more about their opportunities in the new world.
Sheila, how could you do this? You betrayed us! You betrayed everyone! Sheila! Don't worry, Sheila.
Your mom will understand in time, and thank you for your integrity and commitment to duty.
You've made the camp and me very proud.
And I know all of you out there will do the same.
This is the key to understanding the triskelion.
One entity can merge with another to make a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
We need to talk to Lexi.
Not now.
She's in the middle of a teaching.
I don't care what she's doing.
We need to talk to her alone.
Now.
We can talk now -- here, with everyone.
Last night, I followed you into the woods.
I saw who you were meeting with.
Yes? An Espheni.
Don't question Lexi like this, Ben.
Shut up, Lourdes.
Please drop the high-priestess routine.
You're not fooling anyone.
Yes.
I talked to an Espheni, just like I talk to all of you.
I'm the bridge between the species.
I trusted you, Lexi.
We all did.
And now we find out you're meeting with the enemy? I know you're angry.
But you're putting this place in danger.
You shouldn't have brought them.
You made a promise, Maggie.
What are you doing?! Lexi! Lexi, did you -- Did you break her wrist? She'll be all right.
I didn't throw them away because I had a sneaking suspicion there was a reason you didn't want us to get rid of them.
So we'd be easier to kill.
Put your gun down, Maggie, now! Everyone, calm down?! Maggie! You lied to me, Lexi.
When did I lie to you, Maggie? I told you we'd be safe here, and we are.
I told you that non-violence is the answer, and it is.
Why are you meeting with an Espheni behind our backs? Because He's a part of me.
It's who I am.
What do they really want? The same thing I do, the same thing we all do -- peace.
You expect me to believe that? Lexi, what are you doing? I can tell you this -- if you raise your guns again, this place will no longer be safefor any of you.
If you don't believe me, shoot.
You see how narrow that is? It's not gonna take a big charge to sever it.
Assuming that nitrate doesn't explode before you get there.
That metal coil attached to the zeppelin powers the entire camp's grid.
You take out that tether, I promise you the walls are gonna come down.
What about those skitters guarding the camp? Draw them off with a distraction.
What distraction? Me.
What kind of distraction will you be? The kind that baits an overlord into overreacting into an ambush.
It's basically the same strategy that Geronimo used against the Mexican army in Guadalupe.
The legend is it was the feast of Saint Jerome.
A local bishop and all the army brass are gathered together in celebration, all decked out in their finery.
Out of the desert comes this lone apache brave, unarmed, wearing a cotton shirt, breechcloth, moccasins.
Having already had a bit to drink, the Mexican soldiers start to taunt him, point at him, laugh at him.
From inside his shirt, the brave pulls out a small bow, shoots the bishop through the neck, and walks -- not runs, walks back into the desert.
The Mexican army jump on horseback and give chase right into an ambush in a bottleneck canyon.
The priests, women standing on the parapets could only watch as the entire Mexican army is annihilated in this Apache crossfire.
When it's all over, the brave stands on a rock above the dying soldiers, and he listens to them beg for mercy, pray to Saint Jerome, San Geronimo, for deliverance.
That's how Geronimo got his name.
That's how he got his revenge.
That's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna bait them into an ambush.
What if history doesn't repeat itself? What if they don't respond as you're predicting and I die doing something I didn't have to do? We're all going to die.
None of us have to do a thing.
Can't save everyone.
I have to think of myself.
We have to save everyone.
Look, let's say you put on your Faraday suit and you escape alone -- to what? To go and live in a cave until they find you and drag you back to another camp? I'll stay here, hole up till something -- Everyone left behind is gonna be skitterized by the Espheni in a matter of days.
That's how long the suit will last.
That's how long we have to climb the fence, assuming the bomb doesn't spontaneously combust, then we still have to get to the tether, set the explosive, and hope the charge is strong enough to actually cut it.
You've already lost everyone you've ever cared about.
The only thing that's kept me going these last three years has been the 2nd Mass -- my new family.
I want you to be a part of it.
Without family, life's not much worth living.
Oh.
No, thanks.
Save it.
It's quiet.
It's too quiet.
That's what people in movies always say before the bad guys attack.
That's why I said it.
Good to get this waiting over with.
We have to just keep heading to the west.
The skitter told Denny Lexi is to the west.
Anne, are you okay? I'mI'm fine.
Hey.
Turn over.
When was the last time you had something to eat? Anne.
I don't -- I don't remember.
You didn't get any rations? Anne.
Anne! Anne! They're going to break us.
No.
We just have to stay strong.
They brainwashed a girl into betraying her parents, and the other kids clapped.
I know.
I've seen it before.
Well, it was my first time.
And I am not sticking around for another.
What if the next Bill or Martha is someone we know? Your family? What if we become Sheila? I'll die before they turn me.
Maybe you're tougher than me, but I feel like the longer I stick around, the more they're gonna get to me.
I know how I am.
I have got to get out of here before they break me.
I was the same way when I first came here.
But I didn't give in.
The more I told myself to be strong, the stronger I got.
You're stronger than you think, Mira.
I saw some wire cutters in the maintenance shed during chore detail.
Tell me you didn't take them.
Mira, they don't miss anything around here.
Of course not.
I'm just saying We could cut the fence -- How far do you think we're gonna get? I thought you wanted to escape.
I do.
But we got to play along right now.
Okay? Listen.
We graduate from the camp with honors, and then they set us free to go round up terrorists.
But when we're out, we're gonna warn everyone about the sick crap that's going on here.
The earth is a gift.
The new coalition must protect it with our Espheni brothers.
Joined together, we will build a beautiful world.
Everybody up! Now! Get up! Hurry up! Fall in! Found it! Under an empty bed, sir.
Who took these? Someone confess or you all will be punished for one person's crime.
I'm gonna count to three.
One two Those are mine.
I had high hopes for you, Matt.
I'm very disappointed.
I'm afraid your training is gonna be much more unpleasant from here on out.
What you're looking at is a model of the ghetto we've been living in for the past four months, ever since the walls came down.
Tomorrow, I have a summit meeting with our overlord to report on my progress convincing you all to surrender.
But instead, I'm gonna initiate a confrontation that should bait every skitter sentry in the ghetto into giving chase.
I'll travel north along the main street here, and then turn east at their main guard tower here.
skitter-guard shifts -- that's our window.
If I time it just right, I should be able to draw them all together here, at the exact same time.
When they're focused on me, Dingaan, wearing his Faraday suit, is gonna climb over one of the big posts that generates the electrical fence right here on the opposite side of the ghetto at the closest proximity to the tether.
Colonel Weaver, Tector provide cover from the alley just opposite if he needs it.
Pope, you'll join them.
With what weapons, there, Chief? We've pieced together a pressure Cannon we can rig up.
Should buy Dingaan a little time.
After Dingaan makes it over the wall, he's gonna find his way to the base of that tether, and he's gonna set the explosives that will sever it.
That will bring the wall down, allowing you, Hal, a chance to lead the entire population out through the sewer tunnels before the Espheni ever realize that they're gone.
And how are you gonna get away with all these skitters chasing after you? And you got the reenforcements from the outside that are gonna be on your ass like that.
'Cause I'll be leading them into a trap -- Here, where colonel Weaver and I spent two months in solitary studying every single nook and cranny.
Structural weaknesses.
Exactly.
This building's gonna be rigged with explosives.
So, knock on wood, if everything goes as -- Sorry, uh, for a minute there, I thought I was passing by a graveyard.
Look, if Dingaan doesn't cut this tether, you're the one who's trapped.
Dingaan will cut the tether.
I will draw their attention, and you'll lead everybody out through the sewer tunnel.
Why intentionally have every skitter in the vicinity chasing after you? 'Cause if they're chasing after me, they won't be chasing after you.
Well, I think it's great.
I think it's a fantastic plan.
It has zero chance of success, but, uh, what the hell? And what's this Faraday suit? How do we know this thing's even gonna work? It will.
Yeah, and how do we know that Dingaan here's not just gonna hop the fence and skedaddle? He won't.
Why do you -- all of a sudden, you trust this guy.
You've known dingo here for what? Five minutes.
I've been with you since the beginning.
You don't trust me? No! I don't trust you because all you do is drive people apart like you're trying to do right now.
The only way that we're gonna survive this, obviously, is if we all work together, regardless of how we may feel about each other personally.
We have no choice.
In two days, this entire camp is scheduled for processing, whatever the hell that means.
Mutation Into God knows what.
Humanoid skitters.
According to you.
And I, for one, am not buying into the scare tactic.
Anybody got any real questions about this mission? No? Good.
We got a lot of work to do in the next 24 hours.
Let's get to it.
Oh, now, this is what I call Hell's Kitchen.
Rock sod, duct tape, baking soda, acetone, ammonium nitrate.
Let's make some bombs.
Come on.
Hurry.
Let's go.
Hurry.
Come on.
Let's go.
Come on.
Next group will be along in 15 minutes.
Take care of each other.
Yeah.
I told you not to make these groups too big.
If any of these skitter guards find out that the entire population's trying to escape through the sewer, the whole thing's over.
You got that? Don't be seen, okay? Okay.
Here's some more charges.
You got to be careful when you're handling them, though, 'cause ammonium nitrate is very -- Unstable.
No juggling.
Got it.
Careful with that.
That's the last of the load-bearing beams.
We don't want this place to collapse yet.
You forget I was a general contractor for 10 years.
We got about That should be more than enough to pulverize this joint.
Ooh-whee! Hal, how goes the exodus? Well, we moved the first half of the population into the tunnels in groups of 15 to avoid detection.
They're snuggled up, waiting for us for tomorrow.
See that? He does listen.
Do another sweep, make sure nobody gets left behind.
Yes, sir.
Why are you awake? Hard to sleep when you got rats in your brain.
Oh, well, maybe this will help.
What?! Have you been holding out on me? To this mission.
The mission.
Yeah.
Let's see.
And to your daughter On her birthday.
Thanks for remembering.
I can't forget.
I wonder what Anne's doing.
Probably kicking back on a beach somewhere, deep into her third Mai Tai, helping the cabana boys adjust their umbrellas.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Is it a fever? I don't think so.
She's been going too hard.
Her body finally shut down without her permission.
It's okay.
Make sure she's warm.
It's a powerful thing -- the maternal instinct.
Such a beautiful baby.
Don't touch my baby! What? Who? It's not your baby.
It's our baby.
I almost didn't recognize you without your costume.
You've made the right decision to submit, Tom Mason.
Resistance will only ensure the extinction of your species.
The deal's off, and this is your last chance to surrender.
And this is your last chance to recant before you're taken from this prison and sent away for processing.
I take it that's a "no"? Aah! Sound the alarm! I want all arms brought to bear on Mason! Take him alive! I want him! Bring him to me! That's our cue, boys.
"Go" time.
You all right? My hand! Southeast guys are right on time.
Whoa, northeast guys are a little early.
I can't feel my hand! Someone needs to get into the suit now or Tom will die.
I just missed my turn.
No.
No, no, no.
You are not putting on no suit.
You got a heart condition.
Nothing wrong with my heart.
Hearts work on electrical pulses.
The wall could kill you.
I'll go.
This whole damn thing goes sideways, right, guess I won't have to be here anymore.
Yeah, I get it.
You'll get out, you'll just skedaddle, huh? Just like Tom said, right? You know, we all got to start trusting each other.
It starts now.
Give me the damn suit.
He's right.
Okay.
You want the suit? Go ahead.
Give me the suit.
Come on.
Help me put it on.
Remember, you only get one chance One chance.
With this charge.
Right.
Green wire, red wire.
Red wire, green wire.
No! Green wire, red wire.
Twist.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, boom.
Okay? All right.
Boom.
Beep, boom.
Got it, yeah.
You only get 90 seconds.
Otherwise -- to get over the fence.
It's fried Pope.
No! Vaporized Pope.
Understand? Here's your bomb.
We'll be ready to give you cover in 30 seconds.
Good luck.
Go.
One, one thousand, two, one thousand, three, one thousand, four, one thousand, five, one thousand, six, one thousand, seven, one thousand Let's go.
He needs cover.
You ready? Fire! Boom! Yes! Aah! Aah! No! Oh, man, you dropped the bomb! No, no! No explosive.
No escape.
Over here.
All right.
Come on, people.
Get the lead out.
Be careful.
Help each other.
It's all good.
Is that everybody? We did a final sweep.
It's everybody we can find.
Come on, guys.
Just a little bit farther.
He's gonna bail, save himself.
I knew I should have gone.
I thought I was gonna have to shoot him.
Oh, he's not gonna have enough time.
Before the suit falls apart.
Good work, today, guys.
Looked good.
Hurry up, Ellen.
All right.
Now we wait.
Don't rush me, Henry.
Okay.
They're gonna leave us.
He's only got a few more seconds.
Come on, Pope.
Come on.
His suit's falling apart! Oh, he's out cold.
What was that? You're hearing things again.
Skitters! They followed us in! Hey, watch out! I'm coming through! Everybody get to the back! Fall back! Fighters, follow me! Henry! Henry! Help me barricade the door! Get up.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, baby.
Pope! Get up! Get on your feet! Up! Get up, P ope! Get up! Come on! Come on.
Come on, you.
Pope, you get that bomb on there! Get that bomb on there! Red wire, green.
Wire.
Beep, beep Beep, beepBoom.
Beep Beep, boom.
Oh, you got to be kidding me! No, no, no! Stack it up! Come on, guys.
The wall's supposed to be down by now.
- You do not quit! - Pope, what are you doing? You hear me? Pope, hurry! Come on! Quick! Come on.
Come on.
Stupid! Kick! Son of a All right! It's working! - Yes! - You did it.
Whoo-hoo! Glad you could all make it.
Yeah, the wall's down! Whoo! Pope, you did it.
Oh, I never doubted you for a second.
Son of a bitch.
Pigs can fly.
She's close.
Hey, guys.
Anne's awake.
Hey, take it easy.
I'm okay.
I feel better.
Don't bite off more than you can chew.
What do you have to chew? I'm starving.
Let's get Anne some chow.
Anthony, send three scouts to explore the area out to a perimeter of five miles in every direction but east.
Of course.
Thanks, Denny.
Why? Lexi's close.
Well, how do we know Lexi is close? I had a dream.
Son of Tom Mason.
Lexi, I want to believe that you're the reason the Espheni haven't attacked us here, but you can't blame Maggie, or anyone, for being uneasy.
Shh.
Listen.
I don't hear anything.
Listen.
They're almost here.
I hear things that you can't.
I see things that you can't.
It scares me.
I need you.
Brother.
Sister.
Lourdes.
Oh, Lourdes! Anne? Ben! Anthony! I can't believe you're here.
Well, you better believe it.
Are you all right? I'm okay.
Anne, this is gonna sound crazy, but this is -- I know who it is.
Denny.
It's my daughter.
Come on, enough.
Will you? - Give me a break.
Enough, already.
- Hey.
Hal? Where's Hal? Hey.
There he is.
You all right? Yeah.
How did it go? It was easy.
I'm ready to liberate another ghetto right now.
Don't worry.
We will.
Hey, hey.
Everybody make it out? No, not everybody.
Most everybody? Yeah.
Focus on that.
Yeah.
Well, John Pope.
You're like a box of chocolates -- you just never know what you're gonna get with you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, you should, uh, trust more.
Yes.
You can't beat them alone.
Good idea.
Why didn't I think of that? Man, I thought we were toast when you dropped that backpack, though.
You dropped the backpack? I dropped nothing, all right? I recovered my own fumble.
Thank you.
You did it.
You should get that hand looked at, huh? Oh, yeah.
I think we've got a medic around here somewhere.
You all right? Yeah.
Just thought I heard something.
