NCIS New Orleans (2014) s04e03 Episode Script
The Asset
1 MAN: Yo, Alex.
We're cool.
- Okay? - I know.
For real.
You made it.
I don't know how, but you made it.
So just relax.
I'll feel better when we're there.
Look out the window.
That's New Orleans, man.
You're here.
Huh? Yeah.
Okay.
It's all po' boys and hurricanes from now on, right? There's nothing to worry about.
(tires squealing) (grunting) (gasps) NCIS:New Orleans 4x03 The Asset Boom, boom, boom, boom Bang, bang, bang, bang Boom, boom, boom, boom How, how, how, how Hey, hey You gotta come on.
Morning.
Where is everyone? Tammy and Sonja are moving into their new place today.
LASALLE: Where's Pride? Upstairs on a conference call with the deputy director.
Downloading on the Belle Chasse forgery investigation.
Showing D.
C.
that he could color inside the lines.
That's part of the deal Pride made when he decided to take the team again after the internal was done.
Full postmortem on every case.
Yeah, a bunch of bureaucratic BS.
Hey, the forgery case was straight up by the book, so we're good.
It was a glorified check fraud ring.
It took less than a day to clear.
It's not exactly a stress test to prove we won't bend the rules anymore.
Well, if Pride says we got to toe the line from now on, hey, we'll toe the line.
PATTON: Look, you know he cares too much about his work to be handcuffed.
Case gets complicated, he's gonna do whatever it takes.
SEBASTIAN: Yeah, it's in his nature.
It's classic scorpion and frog scenario.
You know, Scorpion promises not to sting the frog if he takes him across the river, but then the scorpion can't help himself.
Va, Va-Va, Va.
PRIDE: Just to be clear I'm a scorpion in this analogy? SEBASTIAN: Yes, but you are a scorpion for justice, so Huh.
Not sure how I feel about that.
How'd the phone call go, King? - Still got a job? - At the moment.
Wait.
What does that mean? It's a joke, Patton.
Call was cut short.
NOPD divers just pulled a Navy sailor out of the Mississippi.
SEBASTIAN: Come on, you got to give us more than that.
We've been walking on eggshells down here.
PRIDE: There's nothing to worry about.
No one's taking my job.
Okay? Now gear up, Frog.
Let's learn things.
(siren wailing) PRIDE: Loretta.
Dwayne.
I heard you got a call from the deputy director this morning.
Not you, too, Loretta.
Sure I don't know what you mean.
I had a call.
It went fine.
Good.
Your words say good.
Your tone says something else.
Why is everyone so concerned about this call? Because for years you've run your team your way.
Suddenly, you have to answer to the deputy director on every move you make? It's just temporary.
If you say so.
There's that tone again.
Well, perhaps it's the naturally inquisitive timbre of my voice.
Why don't you just tell me about our victim, Loretta? It's Yeoman First Class Justin Winters.
According to the report, he was posted at the U.
S.
embassy in Berlin.
Long way from Germany.
Cause of death? I'm guessing frontal skull fracture, cardiac contusion.
And at the very least, he died instantly.
Well, I don't see any other vehicle.
We looking at a hit and run accident? Well, hit and run maybe, but this was no accident.
We found some tire tracks.
Based on the skid mark pattern and the density, whoever hit Yeoman Winters was driving an SUV at high speed.
- This was intentional.
- Yeah, that's not all, King.
You're gonna want to take a look at the car.
Driver's side was caved in, sent the car over the guardrail and into the river.
SEBASTIAN: Yeah, that explains the damage to the vehicle, except for this.
Rear passenger window was busted, but from the inside.
And Winters was dead on impact.
Someone else was in the car.
SEBASTIAN: And managed to escape.
Yeah, but even if someone were able to break out of the car, chances are they'd be swept away in the current.
Well, unless we're not talking about an ordinary person.
Check out that front tire.
Someone cut the air valve.
SEBASTIAN: And I'm thinking they used it as a makeshift breathing apparatus, just like Roger Moore in View to a Kill.
You suggesting we're looking for James Bond here, Sebastian? A boy can dream.
(chuckles) Well, the Mississippi is cold and treacherous.
Why would someone want to stay underwater long enough to need extra oxygen? Because something on the bank was more dangerous.
LASALLE: Whoever ran Winters' car off the road waited to make sure there were no survivors.
All right.
Process the car.
Call Sonja and Gregorio, have them pull surveillance.
Christopher, get with NOPD.
If the passenger did survive, we need to find him and Yeoman Winters' killer.
You got it.
We getting a new couch? No, the one I have is fine.
It sucks that Pride had to pull you guys away on moving day.
Sorry.
But, uh, on the other hand, when he gets here, do not ask him about that phone call to HQ, okay? It's kind of a sensitive subject.
Was it that bad? He claims it was fine.
Fine as in fine? Or fine as in screwed? I think more fine as in mind your own business.
Okay.
And so we should.
I pulled surveillance video in a two-mile radius of the crash site.
This is from the Coast Guard river cam a few minutes after the collision.
Okay, so this man swam clear across the river.
Doesn't stop there.
These are some Spider-Man moves.
Well, actually, I thought it was more like a James Bond kind of vibe, but really it's dealer's choice.
Okay.
Whoever it is, training like that could be military.
And he's clearly on the run, but from what? Yeah, well, based on the tire tracks, we know that an SUV ran Winters' car into the river.
Lasalle's with NOPD right now trying to find the missing vehicle and whoever was driving it.
So, unidentified victim and unidentified suspect.
Yeah, and we have no idea where either of them ran off to, so really we're in great shape.
I may not be able to tell you where he went, but I know where he came from.
I pulled the GPS off of Winters' vehicle.
Okay, so what? He left Fort Lauderdale last night and drove straight through to New Orleans? GREGORIO: And took the back roads the entire route.
Trying hard not to be seen.
Someone knew exactly where he'd be.
They ran him into the river.
Yeah, 'cause we weren't the only ones monitoring his movements.
I found a digital bug in his GPS.
Now, it went out when Winters hit the water, but someone was tracking his car the whole way.
Can you back-trace the bug? I'm a little hurt you even had to ask.
The signal's coming from Celeste Street.
Old industrial building.
I'll call Pride.
Patton says the signal's still active, coming from somewhere inside the building.
Gregorio and I will take the front.
We'll cover the back.
PRIDE: Eyes open.
We don't know who or how many are in there.
Got something.
River side of the second floor.
I'm moving in.
PRIDE: I'm on my way.
(gun cocks) BOTH: Federal agent, drop your weapon.
I don't care who you are; you better lower that weapon.
You first.
Not gonna happen.
Gregorio.
She claims she's a fed, Pride.
I am a fed.
Who's pointing a gun at me.
You're pointing a gun at me.
We'll figure this out after you lower your weapon.
ISLER: Pride.
Gregorio.
It's all right.
It's all right.
Special Agent Sarah Barns.
She's with me.
Isler, what the hell are you doing here? Good question.
GREGORIO: Sonja and Sebastian are going back to NCIS.
They'll keep searching for our missing passenger.
Good.
Fewer people that know we're here, the better.
Yeah, well, I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why you're here.
Afraid that's classified.
GREGORIO: Got a dead Navy sailor who's being tracked by the FBI.
- I think we're way past classified.
- It's okay, Barns.
We had a good reason for tracking your sailor.
Winters worked at the U.
S.
embassy in Berlin.
He struck up a friendship with his counterpart at the Russian embassy.
Alexander Petrov.
This is our missing passenger.
A few days ago, Alexander approached Winters, said he had valuable Intel, wanted to come in.
Winters contacted counterintelligence, landed on my desk.
Alexander would only hand the Intel over if Winters brought him in.
And only in New Orleans for some reason.
So you ran a counterintelligence operation with a sailor in my backyard.
Did you lose my phone number? BARNS: The Intel we're talking about is way too explosive to open the circle.
Isler.
Alexander had a list of every covert Russian agent operating in the U.
S.
, including the government.
BARNS: No one can be trusted.
I knew we had to go off book; Isler agreed.
PRIDE: Well, well.
Look who's gone rogue.
Nope.
I made a calculated decision to proceed with the utmost caution.
Potato, potahto.
Doesn't matter anyway.
The operation failed.
No.
Alexander's still alive.
He wanted to come to New Orleans, he must've had a reason.
And we can still find him and your list.
If you're offering to help, it's got to be off book, too.
You can't alert your superiors.
Well, that's kind of gonna be a problem.
We're sort of on a short leash these days.
Gregorio, it's fine.
What, did something happen? No, he just doesn't like to talk about it.
Gregorio.
Sorry.
Okay.
We'll work off book with you for now, Raymond.
But you need to behave and follow the rules.
Pride.
You're enjoying this little role reversal, aren't you? Now that you mention it.
(chuckles) Alexander Petrov was born and raised outside Saint Petersburg.
Trained for the Olympics in both swimming and gymnastics, he abruptly gave up his spot on 2008 team when he was conscripted into the army.
It's amazing.
I know, right? Ostensibly doing clerical work for various embassies.
But we believe that's his official cover.
In fact, he's a covert operative for the GRU.
Any questions? LASALLE: Yeah, the suit.
Does the FBI send you all to the same store? I mean, they give us guidelines.
Yeah, but you're from New York, right? New Jersey.
- Isler's got a type.
- Bam.
I'm sorry, what does this have to do with Alexander Petrov? Nothing.
More about how you're the spitting image of Gregorio before she joined NCIS.
I don't understand.
Well, I mean, it's not, like, a exact replica, you know.
More like a new model, Kind of like Tammy 2.
0.
LASALLE: Yeah, hair's definitely different.
Oh, it's totally different.
It's the part.
Okay, okay, okay, we've got a highly trained Russian operative loose in the city.
We should be talking about how to find him.
Not my haircut.
PATTON: Why can't we do both? I've been scanning surveillance throughout the city.
I think I found our man again.
He made a phone call? Short one.
Maybe, like, 30 seconds.
But then he fell off the grid again.
Any idea who he called? An online voice box.
He didn't leave a message.
He just stood there silently, then he hung up.
But I was able to get the name of the person who it was registered to, though.
Eveline Casey? Yeah, an old alias for someone we know all too well.
Who's Eva Azarova? Badass former Russian sleeper agent.
We worked with her before.
And against her a couple of times.
Any idea where she is now? Oh, yeah.
(lock buzzes, latch clicks) Special Agent Pride.
You know, most of my visitors bring gifts, but you you brought a man.
Deputy Director Isler.
FBI.
I'd shake your hand, but You get a lot of visitors, Eva? Sure.
CIA, NSA, DIA.
They bring me food and creature comforts, wild promises of a shortened sentence.
For my help in return.
We need your help, too.
Well, then I'll tell you what I told them.
I'm out of the game.
No more cloak and dagger.
I'm retired.
We're not asking.
You will cooperate.
Because, as bad as this place is, there are far darker holes that we could stick you in, lady.
I've been practicing transcendental meditation.
I've found inner peace.
The size of my cage won't change that.
I get it, Eva.
You moved on.
But I'm not just any fed coming to talk.
We have history.
Frankly, after the trouble you've caused in the past, you owe me one.
Alexander Petrov.
He came to New Orleans to defect.
Almost got killed.
Made one phone call before disappearing, to your voice mail.
Oh, see, I haven't checked my messages in, like, eight to 12 months, so Come on, Eva.
How do you know Alexander? We trained together.
Well, can you tell us where to find him? Nope.
I could show you-- if you put me in the field.
What happened to being retired? Like you said, I owe you one.
Right? Look, Alexander's the best the GRU has.
He's better than me.
If he's on the run, you won't catch him, but he trusts me.
Yeah? I'm not sure that I do, though.
You going? I am.
Have a great life, Eva.
ISLER: Pride.
Hey.
Let's get her out.
I said follow the rules and behave.
Putting her on the street is not behaving and not worth the hassle.
Do you want to solve your sailor's murder? You want to bring in the most important Russian defector in almost two decades? Do you want to bring down their entire network in the U.
S.
? No, we got to color outside the lines.
You're doing it again.
What? Sounding like me.
That's not a no.
(lock buzzes, latch clicks) GREGORIO: Okay, so, wait, we're sending in one deadly Russian operative to collect another deadly Russian operative? That's the plan.
I don't like it-- it's too risky.
Well, we don't have a choice.
Eva says Alexander won't come in unless he sees someone he trusts.
Uh, Eva says a lot of things.
He'll have an agent with him the entire time and a backup team moments away monitoring every step.
Well, we all know what Eva can be like in moments.
Last time we did this, she stabbed a guy.
Yeah.
But she hated him.
Seems to have affection for Alexander.
Affection? What do you mean? ISLER: Skip back.
Back up to the part where Eva stabbed someone.
This was your idea.
And I stand by it.
But we should frisk her again, just to be safe.
Are we gonna draw straws to see who rides with the assassin? I'll do it.
That was fast.
We have a working relationship.
I just, I know what to expect.
After you.
Thank you, Roy.
I told you we'd see each other again.
If this is your way of apologizing for not visiting me in prison, I accept.
Clear.
Sonja and Lasalle will be on your six the whole time.
You go in, you get Alexander SONJA: And we're bringing you right back to NCIS.
Let's go.
Who's driving? LASALLE: Just remember, Gregorio, if things go sideways, we're right behind you.
Copy that, Lasalle.
I'm good.
You look good.
- Don't.
- I'm just saying Just stop right there.
We're not here to, like, hang out or catch up or flirt.
We're here to do a job, and that's it.
EVA: Okay.
But admit it, you wanted some alone time-- that's why you volunteered.
No, I volunteered because I know you and I'm hip to your tricks.
Not all of them.
You buying Gregorio's explanation here? 'Cause I'm not convinced.
Yeah.
Well, I take my friends at their word, so What's that supposed to mean? Doesn't matter.
GREGORIO: We're stopping here.
Frenchman Street.
SONJA: Copy that.
We've got eyes on you.
This is our place.
- Got a safe house above Bamboula's.
- Okay.
LASALLE: All right, careful, Tammy.
Last time we were here, we found four dead Russians inside.
Not very safe.
It's the only place Alexander knows where to meet us.
All right, let's go.
You forgetting something? - No way.
- I can't go in there like this, looking like a prisoner.
He'll be spooked.
You try anything, I'll break your jaw.
I've missed this.
Never treat me very good Why don't you tell me why I should Hang around with you I'm so lonesome This is a strange place for a safe house.
They take cash, no questions asked.
Keys, please.
Thanks.
And bartenders make great lookouts.
Plus, I like the music.
I don't want a man to tease me Then leave me all alone (song continues in distance) Wait.
Send me roses to my door Instead I'm crying on the floor Just thinking about you.
NCIS! Drop the knife.
- Now! - Sasha.
Sasha.
(speaking Russian) (speaking Russian) English.
English, okay? Of course.
I'm gonna need you to put that knife down.
Sorry.
Habit.
Alexander Petrov, I'm Special Agent Gregorio.
We're bringing you in now.
Don't worry, it's okay.
Lasalle, Sonja, we've made contact with Alexander.
We're moving out.
Lasalle, Sonja, do you read me? Eva, what are you doing? Do you hear that? No more music.
Stay here.
Guys, we got trouble up here.
Do you copy? (grunting) (Eva and Gregorio panting) LASALLE: Gregorio? You okay? Where the hell were you guys? Someone took out our comm system.
Where's Alexander? In the bathroom.
Not anymore.
This was supposed to be simple.
Get in, grab Alexander, get out, and somehow you still screwed it up.
- You're blaming us? - I'm blaming Eva, because her Russian colleagues knew every move we were making.
First of all, they're not her colleagues.
Secondly, Eva's been in federal prison for the past eight months.
How would she contact them? You said it yourself-- she's tricky.
The Russians have been tracking us ever since Yeoman Winters arrived.
Now, however they're doing it doesn't change the fact that our defector is still in the wind.
And your quiet operation just got a lot louder.
NOPD wants an explanation about what went down at that bar.
Not to mention Deputy Director of NCIS.
ISLER: I'll deal with D.
C.
, make it clear that I'm responsible for everything.
Still doesn't help us find Alexander.
Sonja and Sebastian are at Frenchman Street pulling forensics and surveillance.
If Alexander left a trail, they'll find it.
That leaves the two GRU agents.
GREGORIO: Lasalle's at Mercy Hospital waiting for the operative to wake up.
Pretty sure I fractured his skull.
BARNS: The other operative is in interrogation.
I'll question her.
Well, this may be your case, but Yeoman Winters is my dead sailor.
And those operatives attacked one of my agents.
You can wait your turn.
According to your ID, your name is Callie Tillford.
25-year-old graduate student from the University of Tennessee.
Go Vols.
But you're actually a GRU sleeper sent here to New Orleans to take out one of your own-- Alexander Petrov.
I'm not gonna waste your time here, so please don't waste mine.
Eva Azarova told us everything.
Alexander's a top spy.
And you believe her? You saying Alex isn't a spy? Eva knows what she's talking about.
She's a former sleeper agent.
No such thing as a former agent.
Yeah, how would a graduate student know about that? You and your partner knew how to find my people at that bar.
I can only assume it was you who attacked Yeoman Winters yesterday.
How are you tracking us? You know I'm not gonna answer that.
You killed a Navy sailor and tried to kill an NCIS agent.
If you don't cooperate, you will be spending the rest of your life in prison.
Well, there are worse things.
You're a hired killer.
You think you're being loyal to some sort of a greater cause here? Let me ask you something.
If you sent agents thousands of miles away to live in a foreign country and do unspeakable things, would you control them with a cause? No, I'd use leverage.
They have your family? No, not me, Agent Pride.
I'm a graduate student from Tennessee.
But like I said, there's no such thing as a former agent.
(Sonja sighs) Sebastian and I scoured Frenchman Street and the surrounding areas.
No sign of Alexander.
But we did find the Russians' SUV parked a few blocks away.
Dented front bumper.
Same one they used to kill Winters.
Anything inside? Ooh, thank you.
Nothing but an encrypted phone.
Sebastian and Patton are trying to hack it now.
Any luck interrogating the operatives? Dude finally woke up at the hospital.
He didn't say a word.
- Don't know about his partner.
- Just finished talking to her.
Wouldn't say much, either, except Eva's holding back on us.
You can't think Eva's working with them.
I mean, she saved my life today.
That doesn't mean a thing.
Eva's always had her own agenda.
- What makes this case any different? - No.
She's definitely not tipping off the Russians.
Can you honestly tell me you think she's being above board? - Why don't you let me talk to her? - That's a bad idea.
We have a connection, and she trusts me.
Or she's using you.
It's sort of her thing.
Listen, I'm not a pushover.
And we don't have a lot of options.
Or time.
As soon as Isler and Barns are finished with Callie, they're gonna want to question Eva, too.
(sighs) Okay, Gregorio, go for it.
Okay, but not here.
I feel like I need to make her feel a little more comfortable.
Sorry about the mess.
Sonja and I just moved in today.
You live together? Yeah, we're just roommates.
Are those bullet holes? Oh.
Damn it! Landlord told us that he'd get these patched up before we moved in.
We like a place with character.
Aren't you afraid I might try something? You better not.
Hey, why don't you go in the back room? I'm gonna talk to her for a second.
All right.
- What? - What are you doing? Interrogating the witness.
Is wine some kind of secret FBI tactic I don't know anything about? (quietly): I told you.
I need to make her comfortable.
Yes, but not too comfortable.
Oh, stop.
You stop.
You just got to (clicks tongue) (clicks tongue) Keep it professional.
The most professional.
I got this.
What is this? You take me into your bedroom and you get me tipsy on wine, and I-- what-- I reveal all my secrets? That's the general idea.
Okay.
Pride thinks you're holding back on us.
What do you think? I know you're holding back.
The way you hugged Alexander-- it wasn't just a colleague.
You guys have history.
Jealous? This is not a joke.
Whoever he is to you, he's in real danger, so you need to be honest with me.
Alexander's my brother.
He's not GRU.
He's an athlete and an army clerk that has the bad luck of being related to me.
We're gonna help Alexander.
No, you're not.
You're gonna use him.
You're gonna use him for the Intel that he smuggled in, and then, you're gonna lock him up, just like me.
Okay, so he's out there somewhere hiding Mm-hmm.
waiting for you.
Mm-hmm.
- Let me ask you a question.
- Yeah.
How'd you plan on getting out of here? Were you gonna fight your way out? No, I thought I'd seduce you.
Oh, I'm not that easy, baby.
Look, I am the only person in the world that Sasha can trust, and he's the only person that I can trust.
All right, so let's say you did get out of here, elude me, NCIS, FBI Where would you go? Honestly? Yeah.
Montana.
All that open space, mountains and horses.
You want to be a cowgirl? I want to be free.
Yeah, you were wrong about one thing.
Alexander's not the only one who has your back.
Oh, yeah? What, you have my back, too? No doubt.
That's why you're gonna tell me where he went.
PATTON: Oh, yeah.
We did it.
Don't know how, and it took us half the night, but we did it.
SEBASTIAN: It's exhilarating.
Must be how Hillary felt when he peaked Everest, but with, you know, less frostbite.
Well, what exactly did you do? We broke the encryption on the Russians' phone.
Yeah, we found a text chain.
LASALLE: Any idea who from? No way to back-trace the source.
Whoever it is, though, knows every move we've been making.
And that's not all we found.
Yeah, somebody else was on this text chain.
Our operatives are not working alone.
There's another hit team out there.
Alexander still has a target on his back.
Yeah, not just him.
If they knew that we were going to the safe house, then they'd probably know that Eva's with us.
She's in danger, too.
We need to get her back here to NCIS.
Got it, Lasalle.
I will grab Gregorio and Eva, and, uh, we're coming right in.
Don't mean to disturb whatever it is you're doing in there, but we need to head back to NCIS.
Hey, ladies? We need to go now.
There's another hit squad out there.
I'm coming in.
(sighs) Oh, man, this is not good.
You allowed Gregorio to take our federal prisoner, who is a former Russian spy, to her apartment for questioning, and now they're gone? It was a judgment call.
- It was a bad one.
- Gregorio can handle herself.
If she went with Eva, she's got reasons.
Or she was compromised.
There is a relationship there.
Maybe Eva turned her.
SONJA: No way.
Look, I don't know why Gregorio did this, but she didn't turn, right, Pride? I'll ask her myself.
NOPD just located Gregorio's car.
You put out a BOLO without consulting me? I don't know how they do business down here, but I'm following protocol.
Their agent went off the grid with our asset.
I'll find them.
SONJA: Mm.
You're not saying anything.
We need to stop her.
She's doing her job.
Well, if this is you trying to stay inside the lines, I got a news flash.
We're way outside right now.
Focus on what we can deal with.
Alexander's still in the wind with a hit team on his trail, who seem to know every move we make.
Get with the rest of the team, see what they know.
(scoffs) What is it, Raymond? You got an angle.
I don't know what it is, but you've definitely got one.
Hey, I think I got a bead on our hit team.
Russian nationals just landed at the airport.
Tattoos look like they're Special Forces.
That's great.
But I got to catch up with Barns.
She put a BOLO out on Gregorio.
Yeah, that's what I would have done.
Treat Gregorio like a fugitive? Of course not.
But what if Eva took her hostage? Gregorio trusts Eva.
Don't know why, but I trust Gregorio.
You can give up on her-- I'm stopping Barns.
Hey, I'm not giving up.
I'm just trying to keep her from getting killed by these guys.
What's your problem? My problem is when you take someone's side, you stick with them no matter what.
You don't just drop them when things get complicated.
We still, uh, talking about Gregorio here? Who else would I be talking about? Well, we're not dropping anyone.
All right? We're focusing on doing what we can for the greater good, no matter what our personal feelings are.
Are you still talking about Gregorio? Of course.
Am I interrupting something? - Yep.
- No.
All right, well, this can't wait.
I've been trying to locate Tammy's phone, but it's off-- I have no idea where she is.
I was able to pull her calling history.
She made one call last night before she went dark.
To Pride.
EVA: Alexander had a passion for American amusement parks.
Nothing in Russia really compares.
And I sent this NOLA Funland coin to him when I first moved here.
Funland's been shut down for years.
Perfect place to lay low.
Perfect place for an ambush, too.
Kind of wishing your brother had a thing for five-star hotels right now.
And I'd be more comfortable if you'd given me a weapon.
Yeah, well, I know we're tight and everything, but I can't let you pack.
Something goes wrong, just hug the ground, and I'll protect you.
I'm touched.
Don't be.
Too much paperwork to fill out if you get killed.
(clattering) ALEXANDER: Eva.
Sasha, you're okay.
It's okay.
(speaking Russian) English.
English, remember? Sorry.
I'm so happy to see you.
I am, too.
But you're supposed to be in Berlin, living a normal life.
I had to come save you.
Save her from what? My post at the embassy gave me access to intelligence briefs.
One of them was a list of Russian operatives in America.
Your name had a red line through it.
It means I'm marked for death.
I had to come find you-- offer up the list to get you protection.
Well, that was very brave and extremely stupid.
Because Eva was already protected, serving 60 to life.
Is that true? It's a long story.
Now you're marked for death, too.
Eva is the only family that I have.
And I haven't seen her for ten years.
So the risk was worth it.
All right, well, we can compose the Hallmark card later.
Right now we go to NCIS.
I'll call Pride and let him know.
I turned this phone off when we hit the road.
You saw that, right? Yeah.
Someone turned it back on.
SEBASTIAN: You've got a lot of explaining to do.
You knew Gregorio was going off the reservation with Eva.
Yes, but no one else can.
SONJA: I don't get it.
Why would you let Barns put a BOLO out on her car anyway? Gregorio's nowhere near her car.
She and Eva are getting Alexander and bringing him back.
So I'm good enough to be her roommate, but not good enough to be in on the secret plan.
My call.
Fewer people who know, the better.
Hey, man, that ship has sailed.
Gregorio's phone has been remotely accessed.
- The Russians have her location.
- What? How? Someone placed digital bugs on all our electronics.
They're monitoring the whole team.
LASALLE: I thought we had firewalls.
We do, Lasalle.
It's an inside job.
All right, figured it out.
You people know exactly where Gregorio and Eva are.
I thought I was the only one going off book this time.
Yeah, way too far off book, since you've been bugging NCIS.
That's ridiculous.
We're supposed to be on the same side.
SEBASTIAN: Yeah, well, someone's using FBI tech to monitor us, so it's either you or It's Barns.
Sebastian, get us Gregorio's exact location now.
Isler with me.
Let's go.
(rapid gunfire in distance) (gunfire) Get down! Get down now! Three rounds.
I saw at least three guys.
All right, listen, I'll draw their fire.
Get Alexander back to the car and get the hell out of here.
It's not up for debate! Go! It's okay.
Coast is clear.
- Gregorio? - She's behind us.
Good.
ALEXANDER: Eva! No! (Gregorio yelling) Alex, get out of here! Go! (grunting) Get down! Alexander, you're all right.
We're NCIS.
You're safe now.
Listen, where is Gregorio and Eva? A woman attacked us.
Eva's dead.
Pride, we secured Alexander and one suspect.
Gregorio's in the park with Barns.
She needs help.
PRIDE: Copy, Sonja.
On our way.
Come on.
(grunting) PRIDE: Drop it now! I can explain what happened here.
She shot Eva is what happened.
No, she was gonna attack me.
Load of crap! Shut up! I'm telling the truth, Isler.
You're a double agent, Barns.
PRIDE: Put the gun down now, or we will shoot.
I'm sorry, I can't do that.
(grunting) You don't get off that easy.
You got too much to answer for.
(Barns groaning) Alexander? Safe with Lasalle and Sonja.
Hey.
You okay, New York? Honestly I don't know.
(panting) PRIDE: I'll let you know about her ETA.
Yeah.
I appreciate that.
Y'all get anything out of Barns? Uh, took a while, but, uh, she finally opened up.
Yeah, Russian intelligence caught her in a honey trap a few years ago.
She's been feeding them Intel ever since.
Got freaked when she heard about the list of operatives that Alexander had taken since her name is on it.
Well, we got the list and Barns.
Not bad for government work.
I say, let's celebrate.
The FBI director doesn't share your optimism, Percy.
I'm on the first plane back to D.
C.
for an official inquest tomorrow morning.
Ah, what you got to worry about? You flushed out a double agent.
Who happened to be my protégé.
She fooled me for months.
Convinced me to run an off-the-books operation that killed a sailor and almost took out your team.
No.
I'm screwed.
You know we got your back.
Willing to put a word in up in D.
C.
on your behalf.
Mm.
Somehow that doesn't fill me with hope, but thank you.
You still want to celebrate, King? Got a conference call with deputy director.
Need to debrief him on our little adventure.
Yeah, but this one wasn't exactly on the books.
How you gonna explain it? Selectively.
(sighs) You, um, want to talk about today? Feel like there's a lot of tension between us.
Absolutely not.
Just leave it be.
(inhales deeply) EVA: Whatever you do, don't open it.
Whoever's in there doesn't look anything like me.
Cadaver from a medical school.
Best I could do on such short notice, Tammy.
It's not every day I'm asked to falsify death records on a woman who's clearly in the pink of health.
I'm Eva Azarova.
No, you're not.
Eva Azarova died heroically in a U.
S.
counterintelligence operation.
Well, whoever I am now, I just want to thank you.
Don't thank me.
Thank Dwayne and that one for working it all out.
I'm just filing the paperwork.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to transfer your body to the FBI.
Thought you'd be gone by now.
Yeah, the marshals wanted to move us as soon as possible, but, um, I couldn't leave without first returning this to you.
(laughs) Sorry.
I think I kind of broke it.
No.
Keep it.
Might come in handy.
Not where I'm going.
They sending you to Montana? You know, they won't say, but I'm sure it's somewhere out west.
I have you to thank for that, too.
No.
You and Alexander helped take down a major intelligence network.
It's only fair that you get a shot at a normal life.
Yeah, but the problem is, I don't know if I'll ever see you again.
Never say never.
(sighs)
We're cool.
- Okay? - I know.
(sighs)
