Project Runway: All Stars (2012) s04e04 Episode Script

Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve

Previously on Project Runway: All Stars How about this for an entrance? Your challenge is to create a couture-inspired gown which conveys feelings of wicked or good.
Let's make this a fashion face-off.
Oh, boy.
There's some stiff competition with sonjia.
It's making me really push myself.
Concentrate on that win.
But unfortunately, i have to beat Michelle.
We might be enemies in a day or two.
I really love this dress.
It looks really raw.
This is amazing, this dress.
Thank you.
Sonjia, you're the winner.
Yay! It's an epic failure.
Just because you spent so many hours on those ruffles doesn't make them good.
It's wonderfully, wickedly wrong.
The eliminated designer tonight is Chris.
14 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
And this time the competition is bigger than ever.
Each week their skills are tested to the limit as they compete for the largest prize in runway history.
Who will be cut, and who will have it all sewn up? This is Project Runway: All Stars.
This morning we head to midtown, and we are arriving at the hearst building.
Which is headquarters for Marie Claire.
I love this building.
Whoever wins Project Runway: All Stars will get a guest editor spot at Marie Claire, so I could be working in this building.
Oh, my God, it's Nina.
Hello.
Hi.
Both: Good morning.
Hello.
Hi.
Welcome to the heart of New York's publishing powerhouse, the hearst building.
This is home to our Project Runway: All Stars partner, Marie Claire.
This week's challenge is connected to your past, your present, and your future.
To introduce it, we have someone from your past [Laughter.]
Who holds the key to your future success.
Please welcome creative director of Marie Claire and project runwjudge, Nina Garcia.
Hi.
[Applause.]
I think we're in trouble.
The last time I saw Nina was when I was eliminated before fashion week.
Welcome, designers.
Hi, Nina.
Nice to see you.
Immediately I get a little bit nervous when I see Nina.
I don't really know if Nina likes me.
There are quite a few people that are not excited to see Nina.
You know who doesn't love Nina? People who suck.
Please welcome from zales, the diamond store, Scott Davies.
Hi, designers.
I'm delighted to introduce a special jewelry collection exclusively from zales.
It represents a couple's past, their presents, and the promise of their future.
Our past present & future collection features rings, pendants, and earrings, each piece with three dazzling diamonds.
Designers, your challenge is to create a colorful party dress for a celebration that must include your own journey of love.
We want you to include elements of your past, present, and future relationships.
The first person that I start to think about is my boyfriend.
We have gone through so much in the past six years.
All the losers that I've dated, you know who you are, I was able to get past them to be with somebody who is amazing to me.
We're engaged, and he pushes me to be a better person and a designer.
You have a budget of $100 to shop for fabric.
I'm going to be able to buy, like, a little swatch, like, this big.
And, designers, this is a party dress, so no black or white this week, and zales is generously offering a major prize for the winner of this week's challenge.
Zales is awarding the winner of this challenge a zales gift card worth $10,000.
Oh, my God, bling, bling.
My hands are sweating.
The winner will also receive an exclusive custom-made diamond pendant from the past present & future collection worth over $15,000.
Oh, my God.
What? Same as the one I'm wearing.
It's gorgeous.
I was looking at the collection.
It was just so pretty, and it's worth so much in dollars, so I want it.
So, designers, Nina and I will see you on the runway tomorrow.
So good luck.
All: Thank you.
Bye.
To make an emotion into something tangible is priceless.
Every relationship I've been in hasn't exactly ended well, and I just need, like, to put that from paper to garment and win this challenge, because that would be really awesome.
In a relationship, there should be freedom, and so I didn't want to make anything that was constricting.
I wanted there to be, like, this looseness and something that just envelops the body but allows the body to move freely.
I feel a little anxious because they do want us to put a very sensitive part of our lives on the forefront.
My look is definitely a balance on being hopeful and also the things that happened in our relationships and made them go awry.
Ladies and girls, we have 30 minutes.
Watch your head, girl.
Especially with this challenge, I'm taking lots of risks.
How much is this a yard? $8.
$8, so I'll take 2 yards.
I've never worked with vinyl and neoprene, so those fabrics are very new for me, but I love the look, I love the texture, so hopefully it works out.
Guys, 15 minutes.
A lot of people are choosing reds and pinks.
Give me a yard, please, of the tulle.
That's really obvious.
I went straight to gold, because I think, when you find true love, it's like finding gold.
I think that's more what I'm after.
$99.
20.
Not a cent left.
All: Thank you, mood.
All righty.
[Laughs.]
I get to the workroom, and I unpack, and everyone is trying to stay focused, but at the same time, I can see in everyone's eyes that they're thinking about something really deeply.
I can't wait to see yours.
I know.
I'm so excited.
I am really missing my husband right now, so this challenge is kind of like my love note to him.
I'm making a cute little baby doll dress with a lace detail along the neckline and then some cute sleeves.
These garments represent so much more than just fashion.
This is our love life in a garment.
So, basically, in critiquing these dresses, they're also kind of critiquing how we interpret our love life.
Kate's known her husband since they were babies, yep.
Since preschool.
They actually came out the womb together.
Yeah, we're actually-- the same delivery room they were in at the same time.
Same hospital.
Yeah, we were holding hands in the Incubator.
That's why I'm making a baby doll dress.
It's gonna be a sexy baby doll dress, though.
[Chuckles.]
It's so funny how just, like, everyone's kind of, like, on the same vibe with colors.
This color, it is empowering, and it's beautiful, and, like, anyone could wear it.
With my relationships, I've always been, like, the one on the back burner.
My ex-boyfriend didn't even watch the show with me last season.
He didn't watch it? No.
Oh, my God.
And it's kind of like a reoccurring on-and-off thing, and I just kind of, like, threw in the towel and said I can't anymore.
And it's time to just, like, show my confidence and, you know, my self-worth through this beautiful garment.
Sophisticated fabric choices you got.
I know--I don't want it to read old, though.
The lace I used is kind of caged in, and I kind of wanted that to represent my heart in the way that in the past I was guarded, but then also, like, now my gate's closed, and I don't need to open it to anyone because, you know, I have the person that I feel like I need in my life.
It's gonna have to work.
You okay, Gunnar? Yeah.
As artists, we're very sensitive people, and I think that one of the biggest inspirations that we pull from is love.
I'm hoping to bring some closure, actually.
I am currently single.
Newly single actually.
I was completely invested and could still see it unraveling and couldn't do anything to stop it, and this challenge puts that, like, right in your face.
Ugh.
C I'm not a print person.
I like it though.
It's a subtle addition to it, and it's kind of chaotic.
Which is what wanted it to feel.
My breakup was very recent, and I think that I'm still in the process of trying to cope with that.
I feel like it's gonna help me, because I feel like this might be a little bit of closure.
No one's gonna forget that you're a bitch, Gunnar, don't worry.
[Both laughing.]
Are they gonna know I have a heart? The last relationship I had, it was very difficult, very tough, and I got this tattoo that says "love" afterwards, just to remind me that, like, I will fall in love again.
Don't let the tears distract you from the job at hand.
I'm gonna try to let them help me, actually.
Let them help you, yeah.
Yeah.
As of today, I'm not in love.
I'm as single as it gets, and at this point, I'm focusing on my career, but I think I am ready for the special person in my life.
My dress has a few sections.
The crisscross neckline represents my past, the choices I made, and the roads I took.
The middle section represents the relationships I went through.
And the skirt part of the dress, the big and exciting ruffle, represents my future, big and exciting.
Ooh.
Hi, All Stars.
All: Hi.
I believe this morning you were in my office.
You met with Nina Garcia, my colleague and friend.
She is an incredible person to work with and, as you all know, a very tough critic.
So I am here to help all of you get the best grade possible with Nina.
Hi, Gunnar.
Hi, Zanna.
Tell me about your, wow, your love story.
It got a little rocky at the end, so I'm showing kind of a bit of that in peaks of these red, kind of, folds that are happening on the top of the dress here.
I think the red is very pretty, but it's also not that surprising.
Right.
You need to bring an element of surprise into this.
There's a lot of red in this room.
I walked in--there is so much red in this room.
It's like Valentine's day in here.
Push it.
Think fashion forward.
You can do it, and then Nina will appreciate something that's pushed to your limits as well.
Okay.
I decided to embrace the best relationship I've ever had.
I'm going to be honest Yeah.
This dress is--it's fine.
You need something else to wow the judges.
The bad times is where the back comes in because by having the straps coming and knotting and creating almost, like, this cage, it signifies how I felt.
And it's kind of the symbolism of that being in the back is, like, it's behind me now.
Is it worth trying to do a few more straps? Is it, like, that network? It's confusing, and it's all these crossroads.
I thought of that.
Almost like a spider web.
I look at it, mm-hmm.
And I'm feeling a little bit mother of the bride.
Yeah? I mean, would you wear this? I'm hoping to get to the place where I would wear it.
Well, sonjia, I love the fabric, by that's about it because there is nothing to this dress but the fabric.
I mean, maybe with a little slip, sexy dress underneath it.
Take that--take the sexy.
Inject that into this dress.
Mm-hmm.
[Sighs.]
Someone's in love.
I mean, was.
Oh, really? Tell me.
Yeah, it's one of those.
My ex-boyfriend and I broke up when I had come back from season 12.
Sorry, I don't want to get emotional.
That's fine.
I mean, this is one of the most emotional challenges.
It's so personal.
My last relationship, it started, finished, and now this is new.
So as the lines kind of follow the body, they just end, and they're just like, "okay, what's next?" So this is representing the ups and the downs, the starts and the finish.
Exactly.
I know it's kind of silly, but-- no, look, you've got a reason for everything you're putting into this dress, and that is very important.
Mm-hmm.
It doesn't feel chic enough, and just because it's a party dress, we don't have to abort our taste levels.
Yeah.
But this looks a little bit too cheap.
You need to shrink this paneling, because right now it's just-- it's too obvious.
Yeah, it's all about the proportions.
I first walked over, and I thought, "oh, Kate's pregnant.
" [Laughs.]
Well, maybe that's the future.
Either that, or it's for Alyssa, 'cause it looks like a maternity gown.
As intricate as this lace detail is, it's still a bit of a snooze fest.
Okay, yeah.
I do look over at Kate's, and I just think golden girls.
I mean, it's got some sparkle and glitz, which always shows well on the runway, but her color palate is really old-fashioned.
Long story short, for the past, i didn't think i was capable of love, so-- why? Because I didn't want to be a burden to anybody.
You're crazy.
But I met a guy here.
We've been together for over five years now.
In a relationship it's all about communication, and he took the effort to learn sign language to be with me, so-- since I haven't seen my boyfriend for a while, the last thing that we signed was "I love you," which is this.
So what I did, I painted my hand, so I made it-- so the "I love you.
" Yeah.
Make sure it's clear to the judges, 'cause it's such a beautiful sentiment, that it has to be clear in the design.
Yeah, definitely.
How's the design going? Fabulous.
Tell me about it.
Tell me about your story first.
That's where I want to start.
Um, story, let's see.
I was in a marriage, got out of a marriage, and headed into another marriage.
I was married before and went through a divorce after coming off the show.
Here I'm gonna do it again, and hopefully this one sticks forever.
This girl does not mess around.
No, no, not at all.
We've been together for ten years.
Nice.
I feel like him and I, since we met, we've been like-- we've lived such parallel lives, so I wanted to create a piece that's truly symmetrical.
As you can see, the peek of the inside is almost like revealing myself more and more, because now that I'm in an open relationship, i feel like it's forcing me to be more vocal and honest.
What do you mean by an open relationship? Like, I have a partner, but we're not monogamously committed to each other, but-- does that work? It's been working for me, and it's been fun.
Note to everyone in the room, it works.
Like, when you love someone, you have to feel a connection and then, like that sparkle, so, like, it connects to the back, and then it brings in a sparkle here.
Is there anything personal to that story, or is that just more general? I think it's just how I feel about love.
My relationship status is taken.
Like, yeah, I'm in a relationship, and I'm super happy, and yeah.
You should be making poetry out of your past, present, and future.
Okay.
I have one observation to leave you guys with, and it's that I am not seeing enough of your personal journeys in these looks.
You know, like any good artist, you can be vulnerable.
If you guys do that and you become that vulnerable, the judges are gonna applaud you for it.
Don't be afraid.
Good luck.
All: Thank you.
Thank you, Zanna.
Zanna leaves, and I get back to work, and I have to finish this dress and prove Zanna wrong.
Okay, I need my model.
I cannot move forward.
The critique Zanna gave me, she said my dress looks cheap.
I am anything but cheap.
Hey.
So the challenge today is to create a party dress-- and the dresses have got to be inspired by our past relationship, where we are in the present, and what we want for our future.
So this has been a very personal project.
Well, I married my high school sweetheart, but we've known each other since preschool.
Oh.
So that's why I went with, like, a baby doll dress because I was so young when we met.
She looks adorable.
I love it, but I can just tell that she doesn't feel sexy in it.
It's my job as a designer to make people feel better than they normally feel when they put on my clothes.
So I think I'm gonna chop it up.
Let's go for a little walk.
I talked through with Zanna the idea of spaghetti straps being knotted to create almost this kind of cage.
I think sometimes subtle detail is the most classy and elegant detail, but it has to be done right.
Ah.
That's quite sexy.
Bye.
See you in the morning.
Sleep well.
Bye, ladies.
Bye.
I'm gonna make something beautiful.
They're gonna be impressed by my craftsmanship and everything, and hopefully they understand, like, the sentimental value that I'm trying to convey.
One hour, everybody.
Somehow we always manage to pull this [Bleep.]
out of our asses, so I'm just counting on my adrenaline to be my friend today.
There's an hour left, and I basically have to drape a dress, pattern it, cut it out, and sew it.
It was, like, really cute on her, but I want to make it a little bit more sexy.
Make it sexcellent.
Sexcellent? Give me a sexcellent dress.
Sexcellent dress.
I'm just speeding away at the sewing machine, and I just need to sew this entire dress together.
That's no small task.
Five minutes.
Thanks, Kate.
Thanks, Kate.
I'm gonna faint.
Okay, guys, that's time.
Oh, all right.
All right.
Let's go home.
Okay.
Let's get back to work, people.
Did the elves finish it? So it's the morning of the runway, and I have to hem my dress, and I have all of the strap work in the back, so I've got to hand-knot those.
Benjamin's dress is interesting.
I really like the different straps in the back, but that's really the only thing that I like about it.
I'm freaking out.
I scrapped the entire bottom half of my design and need to resew it in three hours.
Good morning.
Can you turn around? I put my dress on my model, and then I have to take my dress back off my model, because I realize i have to put in a zipper, but I can't do this until I have the entire dress put together.
Gunnar's piece has a lot of stuff going on, but I think the most problematic part is the skirt.
Yesterday, I saw this beautiful cobalt blue fabric.
This will look really cute with this red, and I feel like it represents my past relationships.
All right, let's hit the chi hair care salon.
I'm thinking of, like, a messy, high ponytail.
Tease it and then just clip it, because it sounds like he wants a lot of fullness.
Good to see you.
I really want to have the hair slick.
Flip that back over like that.
But the hair at the back has to be up So let's do that.
Because I don't want to hide the feature of my dress.
Maybe a block or even darker in the center that kind of fades out? At the Mary Kay color design studio, I'm looking for a modern gothic look.
Maybe this? It's called whipped Berry.
Maybe something with a wet look on the eye, maybe in the Navy range? I love you, coastal blue.
It's beautiful.
You love that land? Yeah.
Okay, well, that's where we shall go.
Yes.
I need to find a shoe.
I need to find a clutch.
I need to find a husband.
[Laughing.]
From the QVC accessory wall, I'm grabbing coral shoes, strapless with an open toe.
I think this color really speaks well with my dress.
Dmitry's looks pretty bondagey, so I'm kind of curious what his love life's like.
Ten minutes, you guys.
It's down to the wire, and there's just, like, so much going through my mind.
This challenge is all about emotions and representing that in a tangible thing, so I hope the judges respect my story and what I'm trying to convey.
Okay, guys, that's time.
Let's go to the runway.
Bye.
Let's go.
The winner of Project Runway: All Stars will be given the chance to create their own capsule collection with QVC and will appear on QVC's spring fashion week; a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position at the magazine as contributing editor for one year; chi hair care will send the winner to stay in a luxury spa resort as a special guest at their international conference in Cancun, Mexico, plus product and staff for entire year of runway shows; from Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional makeup artist services for their debut show; and from Brother Sewing and embroidery, a complete sewing and crafting studio to launch their line; And $150,000 in cash.
Ooh.
All right.
All: Oh! Sparkle.
Yes.
So this week we asked you to show us your vulnerable side with a colorful party dress that includes elements of your past, present, and future relationships.
Let's meet tonight's judges.
Georgina Chapman is sorry she can't be with us this week, but instead, we have someone very at home in the judge's chair.
It's creative director for Marie Claire and project runwjudge, Nina Garcia.
Hi, everyone.
Happy to be back.
Next, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, designer Isaac Mizrahi, looking super dapper tonight.
Thank you, Alyssa.
Our first guest's fashion blog has become one of the hottest online diaries in the world.
Over 1/2 million people follow her instagram posts every single day.
Please welcome creator of weworewhat, Danielle Bernstein.
Hey, guys.
Thank you for having me.
Our next guest took the crown in his season of runway, but it was his Project Runway: All Stars win last year that really helped his career take off.
Please welcome designer Seth Aaron Henderson.
Hello, everybody.
The judges and I are looking at how you convey your own journey of love in your party dresses.
So without further ado, let's get the party started.
Good luck.
[Techno music.]
I love what I see.
The dress looks very cool, very modern, and I think any girl would love to wear it.
Dmitry's first vinyl.
Yeah, I'm not a virgin anymore.
[Laughter.]
Seeing it all together, I'm like, "oh, my God, like, how did I create this?" The blue just looks amazing to me.
Everything about my dress encompasses my past, present, future, and it's love.
It's love in a dress.
I really don't know what else the judges could want from me.
I'm feeling great about this.
I'm sitting next to Michelle, and she's like, "it looks great, girl.
" I think it's great.
Every girl wants to be her.
I love everything that I do, but I felt like every single detail about this dress, perfect.
I was like, I [Bleep.]
nailed this one.
I really love the way my look turned out.
I think it's adorable.
I would totally wear it.
The only thing I wish is that I had time to finish hemming the chiffon.
My look is like, "it's party time.
" And everybody else, they look like they're going to a dinner party.
All: Ooh.
Okay.
Cheeky.
I go to the wrong party.
I'm loving my dress down the runway.
The raspberry and dark maroon are really romantic and speak to the challenge.
I think it's the best constructed garment up there.
I love the way that it's laying on her.
The red is complementing her skin tone beautifully.
There are a few things that I would like to change if I would have had more time, but I think it's a solid look, and I'm proud of it.
It's a party dress, and so it's kind of lightweight and feminine.
So sexy, so, like, nighttime.
But I am a little concerned about the bust area.
The most professional decision that I had to make with this challenge was to let my emotions out.
Just, like, take it out of me and put it into this.
Designers, I want to say thank you for baring your souls for a very personal runway.
It was a great show, and zales, the diamond store, thought so too.
They were so impressed with your work, that in addition to the grand prize of a $10,000 gift card and the beautiful diamond pendant, they're gifting $1,000 gift cards to all of you.
Oh, wow.
Really? Aw.
So nice.
That's very sweet.
Now back to business.
If I call your name, please step forward.
Michelle.
Justin.
Sam.
Jay.
Fabio.
You are safe.
Thank you very much.
You can make your way to the backstage lounge.
We'll see you next week.
Thank you.
The rest of you have the highest and the lowest scores of the week.
That means one of you is the winner this week, and another designer will be sent home tonight.
Sonjia, we're gonna start with you.
I kind of did that blue on the inside, because I felt like it represented my past relationships of losers I've dated.
The red represents love.
For the future, I feel like sequins is bright, and it represents a bright future for me.
I really loved what you did here.
Really? It feels very edgy.
It feels very modern.
This is so beautiful.
Thank you.
Really fabulous.
Turn around please.
The back is divine because it doesn't look tight.
It doesn't look like a housewife.
I love how you cut the lace, I love the silhouette, and you're completely rocking my world.
Thank you so much.
It's sexy, but it's elegant, and the pop of color underneath is not something I would expect.
When it first came out, it just seemed so simple, but, I mean, the more I'm looking at it, there's a lot to it.
Let's move on to Gunnar.
I recently got out of a two-year relationship.
It was really chaotic, and I wanted to have this kind of chaotic fabric, and red represents my love over all the chaos.
I like your dress.
I like the irony and the fact that it's sort of shaped like a heart, right? But what bothers me is that people default to asymmetry because it's the easiest way to make a dress fit.
You just kind of sew it down somewhere when that is really not the point of asymmetry, and somehow this got away from you.
It's a mess.
The back of it just doesn't make sense to me.
It doesn't feel very flattering.
It's like the top was your idea, and the bottom just didn't quite work out.
Those darts, I can't imagine those were intentional.
That does look chaotic.
I'm sorry you feel that way.
Benjamin.
Growing up in Sydney, that was when I had my first love, and I kind of wanted to reference Sydney with this kind of shot of blue underneath, but then not everything is a dream in love.
So in the back, I kind of wanted to put this detail which is almost like a cage, because sometimes you can feel a little trapped, and the freedom with the cut of the dress, that's what I'm seeking for my future.
I love the fabric that you chose.
This handkerchief hem, though, feels very Project Runway 101.
The blue that you chose looks like it's a mistake.
Looks like it's a lining that fell off.
This dress had beautiful runway appeal.
As it just stands here, it does go into a little bit of a dance costumey.
The back of the dress is so pretty.
It would have been prettier without the chains around her neck.
The chains make it into a kind of disco moment.
Now let's move on to Helen.
I wanted to make a silhouette that was strong-- it almost gives, like, an armor appeal--but is still vulnerable.
With the off shoulder, I kind of wanted to indicate the highs and lows of a relationship, and as Nina knows from my finale collection, this color was of great sentiment to me, and I wanted to give it a new life.
It's a powerful romance that you have here.
The dress has a lot of presence.
The sleeves are absolutely beautiful.
Of all the dresses today, I felt like this was the most emotional one.
There is something tragically romantic about this dress.
I really like this neckline.
It's so new.
Whatever those experiences were that inspired this dress, you got a good dress out of it, so it was worth it.
Thank you, yeah.
Let's move on to Kate.
I've really only ever had one romantic relationship, and that's my husband, Zach.
The silhouette of this dress is really inspired by the innocence when we first met in preschool.
The color is inspired by Florida where we grew up together, and the back is open.
It alludes to our future.
It's open.
I love the top half, how it has a vintage feel to it, and you could definitely see the work you put into it.
The top is just-- it's beautiful.
And then you got the bottom, which is not well executed.
Explain to me how that color gives the beach in Florida.
Well, it's more to me like the smell of the air at the beach.
Okay.
It feels more like a neutral to me than it does a color.
This color is poor.
Worse than poor.
It is sad.
It also doesn't help that you're next to the Ferrari here.
I mean, it really doesn't.
And why the hanging appendage? I wanted to do something that was a little bit edgier, I guess.
Midway through your design, you've decided to go edgy? No bueno.
Now on to the Ferrari.
As my bust, with this crisscross, it's the choices i made in my personal life.
The bustier part, it's the road and all kinds of relationships I had, and I hope my future is gonna be as fun as this skirt.
Sharp.
Fiery.
Sexy.
Impeccable.
It's really unbelievable that you could accomplish this in such a short amount of time.
What I feel makes it a little bit kind of common, is the flounce, and the back, that is not doing anybody's butt any favors.
I disagree with Isaac because I think that's what makes it flirty.
No, if it was straight down, it would be like something off the runways in Paris, but as it is, it looks like, you know, the real housewives of something.
Superb tailoring.
Cute.
Sophisticated.
I love head to toe.
We appreciate you putting yourself out there, but, of course, we're critiquing your final designs, not your stories.
So we obviously have a lot to talk about, so you can wait in the backstage lounge.
Thank you.
[Indistinct chatter.]
Who's up? Who's down? It's obvious from the critiques.
Bottom: Gunnar, me, and Kate.
It's between you and I, Kate.
I know.
It's one of us going home.
It is.
Our low scores, Gunnar.
This dress I really disliked.
Me too.
It seemed like there was a certain amount of pride that he was taking in that dress, which concerns me.
And then the back of the dress, the back of the dress.
That weird slit and then those two pleats.
I only like the top half.
Yeah.
Not even.
Not even.
I'll say it, it was a mess.
How about Kate? Choosing that color for this and speaking about it as though it's, like, this wonderful sort of South beach thing.
Crazy.
Am I nuts or is that, like I mean, it was pretty bland.
Neutral? It's a neutral dress.
It looked like she took the scissors and-- it was jagged.
I wish I saw this before she decided to change it.
Yeah, when it was the baby doll.
Because I imagine it would have been way better.
Benjamin.
I hate handkerchief hems.
Me too.
That just, to me, just screams sweet 16, bar and bat mitzvah.
Screams dancing with the stars for me.
He picked a good fabric, but there was really not much design there.
Should we talk about the highs? Dmitry.
It's kind of amazing what he does.
So polished.
Impeccable.
So impeccable.
It's a Ferrari, and I like a Ferrari.
It's a Ferrari, you're absolutely right.
Was it my favorite dress up there? I don't think so.
It wasn't my favorite either.
It was one of my favorites.
It was one of my favorites.
I don't know.
It's just another red dress.
Should we move on to Helen? I think this invention was fabulous.
It was completely new, and that is a really big accomplishment.
It's like the shoulder line was, like, a frown.
That was the sadness.
Yes.
That's why I kept saying it.
That's the sadness.
She was, like, frumpy without being frumpy at all.
It's this push and pull between this hard and the soft.
She put her heart on her sleeve.
Sonjia.
I just want to wear that dress, and the blue underneath was completely unexpected.
And I also got party dress from it.
It was happy, definitely.
Happy.
Yes, sonjia's is very cool, but it doesn't look so special.
I think for this particular challenge, Helen's is very on target.
It's emotional.
Yes, but you don't get to show a fashion audience your story.
You get to show them clothes, and the best dress always wins.
I don't care what you say to me.
I am removing the emotion from it.
Fast-forward five years, I think Helen's dress will still look fantastic.
We might not feel the same Oh, yes, we will.
About sonjia--no.
In five years, you might feel very differently about it.
Oh, my God.
No, I think you're wrong.
I think it's the exact opposite.
No.
[Laughs.]
So we have our decision? Let's bring them back out.
Designers, one of you is the winner this week and will receive a $10,000 gift card from zales, not to mention a custom-made diamond pendant worth $15,000.
And I'm sorry to say, another designer will be eliminated and sent home tonight.
Designers, one of you is the winner this week, and, I'm sorry to say, another designer will be eliminated and sent home tonight.
Dmitry, you're safe this week.
Thank you.
Good luck.
Helen and sonjia, one of you is the winner of this week's challenge and will receive the prize from zales worth $25,000.
And that designer is Helen.
Whoo! Congratulations.
Thank you.
And congratulations to you too, sonjia.
Thank you.
We'll see you both next week.
Okay.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you, guys.
Thank you.
Bye, Nina.
Winning this is incredible.
I've been working really hard, and I take every bit of the judges' criticism to heart.
Benjamin, you had a low score, but you are safe.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We'll see you next week.
Thanks.
And that leaves Kate and Gunnar.
You guys are both talented designers, but as you know, only one of you can stay.
This week the eliminated designer is Kate.
Thank you for being here with us, and we can't wait to see what comes next.
Gunnar, you stay in the competition.
Thank you, you can leave.
Thank you, guys.
And I'm a huge fan of your blog, by the way.
Oh, thank you.
Thanks.
Kate, thank you so much for joining us on All Stars.
Thank you, guys.
I really appreciate all of your feedback.
And I will say, the third time getting eliminated, it hurts a little bit less, so that's good, and I've learned a lot.
So thank you.
Bye, sweetheart.
Bye, guys.
Being eliminated the third time around, it's kind of like being stabbed in the same place three times.
You just stop feeling it.
Hey, guys.
Aw.
I'm going home.
Sorry.
I definitely learned a big lesson today.
I was a little overambitious in redesigning and couldn't finish my garment.
I guess I have to go clean up my workspace again.
I hope I don't slip on some tulle.
I know myself as a designer.
I know exactly who I am.
I shouldn't have second-guessed myself.
Not on Project Runway: All Stars.
Next on Project Runway: All Stars Paddington bear? A bear? We're sending you to Paddington station in London, england.
[All screaming.]
Please welcome the duchess of York.
Hi.
I saw it in the window.
Can you just tell me if you're not going to use it? Hurry the [Bleep.]
up so that I don't have to compromise my design.
Everything gets better with a cup of tea and a biscuit.
We're having tea with the duchess.
Insane.
All: Cheers.
I'm a little bit jetlagged, I think.
Jetlagged, I'm not hearing that as an excuse.
It will work out.
But one day, it's not going to work out.
I don't love the front of the coat.
It's something I've never seen before.
