- Previously on Walker
- What the hell is going on?
Detective Luna, Corpus Christi PD.
- Hey.
- I'm calling with some news.
Hollis Miller just died.
You remember that case I told you about?
- The Jackal?
- Yeah. But that was years ago.
Not so much anymore.
What the hell, Stel?
Witt. The gas. The matches
That's how Witt died.
Who the hell is after us?
Look at this. It's from Detective Luna.
It says he has a crime
scene down in Hayward.
Some motel where he thinks the
Jackal spent a few nights at.
KELLY: I lost my
husband to this man once.
I am not losing him again.
- Kelly, what you're asking is
- Is exactly what Larry did
when Emily passed. He
protected Cordi from himself.
Guys, why all the secrecy?
Who are we keeping in the dark?
Captain James.
Witt?
Just drive.
Hands ten and two.
Don't try anything.
Please, please don't.
You're alive.
Do you have any idea

- I do.

We're on the same side.
Oh, God. Oh, no, no, no.
You know, I really wish you'd led with,
"Hey, Cass, that serial
killer investigation,
we're keeping it from Captain James."
Because had I known that,
I would have given you a
more appropriate response,
which of course would
have been, "Hell no!"
- Cassie
- No!
And that hush-hush warrant
I said I'd pull strings
at the FBI to get,
- also a "hell no" to that.
- Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- You're doing take-backsies?
- Yeah.
We're saying Detective
Luna got us a solid lead
I don't care about a "solid lead"
on some "Jackal" from
some "Detective Luna."
What's with all the air quotes?
I don't know. I'm a little on edge here.
I've barely settled back
into the Ranger rhythm,
and now my first big case back,
you guys want to go and change the song?
Wasn't the whole Grey Flag thing
like a masterclass on "why we
don't lie to Captain James"?
Okay, okay, hold on. First off,
this isn't your first "big case back."
And it's happening to me now
- Oh
- Cass, we just want to look into a lead.
You have no idea how bad
this case screwed up
James the first time.
That's why I know he will understand.
- How can you be so sure?
- Because he did the same thing for me.
Listen, I was in a bad
place when Emily died,
and around that time, James
got a lead on a suspect
that he thought may have murdered her.
So he and Liam went all
the way down to Mexico
to check it out, and
they kept it a secret
because they knew telling
me before confirming it
would have sent me spiraling.
And that's all we're trying
to do with Captain James
- is just protect him from needless worry.
- (PHONE RINGS)
- He already knows.
- No, he doesn't he doesn't know.
But I, but I probably should take this.
Trey, can you fill in Cassie?
- Yeah, yeah.
- Great.
Larry, hey. How's the conference?
This seriously doesn't worry you?
No, it doesn't, actually.
Because there's another reason I
know we're doing the right thing.
His wife expressly asked
us not to say anything
until we knew for sure.
Kelly said that?
Yeah.
(SIGHS)
I never wanted anyone to get hurt.
I know it didn't pan out that way.
Yeah, well, you kind
of forced Stella's hand.
I don't deny that.
After I was shot and you both left,
I got myself to a van,
where a driver was waiting.
- You had somebody to help you?
- Not quite.
I was begging him to drop
me off at the hospital.
I swore I'd keep my mouth shut.
But he was dead set on
getting to the rendezvous,
- to the woman who hired us.
- Who hired you to rob Geri?
I have no idea. I never met the lady.
But Jordan, the driver,
was terrified of her.
He wanted to get there to prove
that he wasn't the one who screwed up.
I was freaking out.
Bleeding out.
We argued, I grabbed the wheel.
It happened so fast.
I crawled from the burning
van, went back for Jordan,
but he was dead.
- I hadn't meant
- You hadn't meant to kill him.
I hate myself for it.
I was in over my head.
I switched our wallets, I took his gun.
- I shot him where you shot me.
- Wh ?
It was pure panic. I
fled. I-I knew the area.
I had a friend I could trust.
A nurse that was nearby.
Wouldn't the DNA not match?
Jordan burned beyond recognition.
The only salvageable DNA
was my blood on the door.
- That's convenient.
- Why are you telling us all this?
Because Jordan was right.
She's coming after me.

Well, two weeks ago,
Luna found one of the
Jackal's calling cards
at a motel in Hayward.
- What was the calling card?
- A jackal tooth.
- That tracks.
- Yeah.
There were no other leads,
but the motel manager
remembered seeing a car
parked in front of the room,
weird medical gear in back.
Which you think is connected to
- What did the Jackal use?
- Digoxin.
It's a pharmaceutical he
uses to paralyze his victims.
And the motel manager also saw
a parking pass on the
dash for a different motel.
Where you're supposed to meet Luna.
As far as we know, the Jackal plans
and stages his murders from motels.
And this one may still be active.
Now, that's what we gotta find out.
The second we do, we call James,
tell him everything.
Just got off the phone
