Project Runway: All Stars (2012) s04e06 Episode Script

Luck Be a Lady

Previously, on project runway: All Stars We're going to London! There's big Ben.
[Laughter.]
Please welcome Sarah ferguson, the duchess of York.
[All reacting.]
We would love you to design an outdoor coat.
Oh.
I would love to wear the winning design.
Wow.
Oh, my gosh.
I think we should drink to new friends.
New friends! Can you just tell me if you're not gonna use it? Hurry the [Bleep.]
up, so that I don't have to compromise my design.
I'm a little bit jet-lagged.
Not hearing that as an excuse.
First thoughts? Really like it.
Oh, good.
[Electronic music.]
fabio, I'm mad about that sleeve length.
It's something I've never seen before.
Thank you.
Dmitry, I really appreciate this coat.
The winner is Fabio.
Yay.
There's something inexplicably drab about this.
I'm, like, offended by that.
From where I'm sitting, it looks like it could be a pair of curtains.
The eliminated designer is Benjamin.
14 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
And this time, the competition is bigger than ever.
Each week, their skills are tested to the limit as they compete for the largest prize in runwahistory.
Who will be cut? And who will have it all sewn up? This is Project Runway: All Stars.
Good morning, All Stars.
All: Good morning.
So far this season, you have designed upscale looks, party dresses.
You created outfits based on your own relationships and from construction site materials.
It definitely proves your versatility and that you never know what's coming next.
Here we go.
This week, each of you will select your own fabric and the event you're going to design for.
Thank God.
Yay.
But this is All Stars, and we're not gonna make it that easy.
This is a fashion gamble.
Oh.
[Laughter.]
Ah.
[Laughs.]
Dice? This week, we are turning the runway into a gambling table, and you'll take turns to roll both dice to discover which fabric you'll use and for what event.
I see tweed on there.
I see denim.
I see masquerade ball, all these things that I don't want to involve myself in.
You'll have a budget of $150 each and one day in the workroom.
Fabio? Yeah? You won last week's challenge.
Come on up.
Oh, my God, is that good? I am [Bleep.]
my pants because there are some doozy, doozy combinations here.
Fabric first.
Please roll something fun.
Denim.
[Laughs.]
[All laughing and jeering.]
And your event.
Oh, God, please be good.
Masquerade ball.
[Laughter.]
All right.
I don't even know what I'm gonna do with this.
Fabio, who's next? Sonjia.
Sonjia, your fabric is brocade, and your event is bachelorette party.
I could have had a worse combination.
I'm engaged to be married, and I love making things for myself to go out in.
Next is my big sister Sam.
Come on up, Sam.
All: Brocade! Brocade is a woven textile, and through the weave, you actually create a pattern, which can be a really heavy, stodgy fabric.
Awards ceremony.
I have a good event to go to, and it's just now figuring out the brocade part.
All: Lace.
Gallery opening.
[Groans.]
Okay, Justin.
Silk.
Gallery opening.
Good luck.
Brocade.
Ooh.
And dice number two's your event.
Awards ceremony.
Yes! I have the same exact one.
Mm-hmm.
Oh.
So an unofficial fashion face-off.
She makes gowns.
That's what she does for a living.
She got really lucky.
All right, Gunnar.
Brocade.
Masquerade ball.
I am a little concerned.
I'm sure that they don't want it to be a "costume," but you wear a costume to a masquerade ball.
Hey, you guys.
[Laughs.]
All: Denim.
[Laughter.]
Sunday brunch.
Sunday brunch.
That's fun.
He's going to Texas.
And that leaves dmitry.
Velvet.
[Laughter.]
Velvet? I'd rather shoot myself, to tell you the truth.
I think it's the hardest fabric to work with.
Gallery opening.
Oh.
Not bad.
Okay, good luck, everybody.
I'll see you on the runway.
All: Thank you.
Have fun.
[Overlapping chatter.]
I'm so happy.
In my mind, I feel like I'm making this dress for me.
For my bachelorette party, i want to wear something like this.
I'm being a little bit inspired by butterflies right now.
My plan is to make a wrap dress with a high low skirt that feels a little bit like a cocoon.
We are in week six of this competition.
We are the best of the best of the All Stars.
Like, the gloves are off, man.
I came here to win.
I'm designing a strapless bodice and a fitted skirt to the floor with some cool style lines.
My look is gonna beite fitted.
If I don't find the right fabric, then it's gonna make my girl look like a walking couch.
I might have the easier combination, but I don't want to take the easy route, so I'm going with a short dress because I want my woman to be able to walk around.
She's kind of conservative, but she's ready to party, have some champagne.
All right, guys.
It's time to go to mood.
30 minutes! Bye.
When you think of denim, you think of cowboys and construction workers.
I find this amazing, soft pink denim, which you don't really see that much.
I find this really kind of metallic velvet.
It's beautiful, but I know that it's gonna be a bitch to work with.
I'm getting four really ugly laces.
Most people would look at these four colors and go, "holy [Bleep.]
, grandma," but I think it's going to be spectacular.
I'm gonna make it Lacy and a little bit racy.
And then there's the brocade brigade.
There's, like, four different people that are using brocade.
Ooh, speak to me.
Speak to me.
I don't want to use the same fabric anyone else is using.
I picked two brocades.
One of them is, like, a very pretty gold, and the other one Whoo.
Who got this? You can't miss it.
Wow.
Five minutes! It's time.
Time.
All: Thank you, mood! Bye, swatch.
[Laughs.]
This was the most expensive.
That's pretty.
The problem with lace is it is completely transparent.
There are holes everywhere, and that makes for a really, really nude model.
So I have to do a lot of layering of lace so she's covered up in all the right places.
Come here.
Was that on the QVC wall? Yup.
I happened to find this beautiful pearl necklace from the QVC accessory wall, and instead of using it as a necklace, my crazy ass is gonna put it in her head.
Darling.
Oh, baby.
It is a little richer.
Right? The darker.
I want to do something soft, something feminine, so I'm making a jumpsuit.
I'm gonna drape the top.
It's gonna be asymmetrical, and then slouchy pants with pockets.
She wants to stand out.
She's gonna go to the strip club.
She's not going to the bachelorette party.
My girl is the bachelorette.
I want her to stand out.
So am I going with the shocking fuchsia pink, or am I going for this goldmember moment? The pink, for some reason, is speaking more to me.
I feel like I could have a really great shock value on the runway.
Done.
Everyone's fabric is so elevated.
I don't know, I think there's a fabric in here that's not what it's supposed to be.
Like-- I think it's my turn to use the, um-- [laughs.]
Sonjia does not have brocade.
Dima.
Is this brocade? It's quilted silk voile.
That's not brocade.
This is brocade.
As a friend, I need to tell sonjia that I don't feel like this fabric speaks to the challenge so that she can go back and fix what needs to be fixed.
Was your fabric on the brocade section? Yeah.
'Cause I don't think it's brocade.
It is brocade.
Mm-mmm.
Yes, sir.
Mm-mmm.
Everybody waited till I wasn't in the room to talk about my fabric and whether they thought it was brocade or not.
Mind your business.
Was your fabric on the brocade section? Yeah.
I don't think it's brocade.
I feel like as a friend, I need to tell her that I don't feel like this fabric speaks to the challenge.
It is brocade.
Mm-mmm.
Yes, sir.
Mm-mmm.
Sonjia doesn't take the information well.
Just a little bit of gratefulness that fabio's telling her now would be cool.
I want to bring it up to you so if you get, you know-- on the chopping block? Why everyone is concerned with my fabric is beyond me, but I don't want to go home.
I'm developing a color blocking denim dress that's fitted but is gonna flounce out from the waist down, and I absolutely hate the color combination.
This color is a little ho-hum.
So my game plan is ditch this.
Go do something else, 'cause you don't have a lot of time, and you have to make a ball gown.
So I think I'm gonna abandon my top.
I love the bottom.
I love the bottom.
I need to love the top.
I think the most time-consuming part of my look is just working with the fabric.
I don't want my model to look like a butterfly walking down the runway, but I want some, like, light, flowy aspects to be happening.
I don't know, but I'm, like, not ready for Zanna to come in.
Oh, hey.
Hi, designers.
All: Hi.
I've heard all about your little fashion gamble.
[Laughter.]
So I'm gonna take a fashion gamble of my own.
I'm working with Alyssa on a photo shoot for Marie Claire, and we've decided the winning look is gonna be featured on Alyssa in Marie Claire.
Oh, my God.
What? As a designer, that's an incredible opportunity.
The stakes are high, as always.
So I'm gonna come 'round and start with you, Justin.
Whoa.
Hi, Justin.
Hello.
Tell me about your fashion gamble.
I have silk and gallery opening.
They go hand in hand.
You lucked out.
I know, so many options.
So my concern for you is you have to push it, you know? Yeah, definitely.
You don't want to be predictable in any way, shape, or form.
Yeah.
See, I love casinos 'cause I go with my godmother pretty often.
What's your game? What do you play? She just taught me how to play Russian roulette.
Amazing.
She's really good at it, actually.
I know she means just roulette, not the stick a bullet in the chamber, spin it, and then point a gun to your head, but she keeps saying it.
Okay, but we don't want to play Russian roulette with our look.
No, my fashion gamble was brocade and awards ceremony.
So I decided that I'm just gonna bring the skirt straight to the floor and put a nice, high slit in the back.
In the back? Yeah.
I had denim, masquerade ball.
Let's discuss the color.
Mm-hmm.
It's reading a little bit pepto-bismol right now.
Immediately, I get a stomachache, and I wish i did have some pepto-bismol, but I'm just gonna stick to my gun and finish this gown because I personally love it.
I actually was really lucky that I got denim and Sunday brunch.
Ah, perfect combination.
But there's something about halter top, shiny fabric, and a skirt that makes it a little bit cheesy.
Um-- I am doing a young, hip gallery hopper who's maybe more there not to purchase art but to score the artist.
Ooh, I like her.
[Both laughing.]
Of all the designers remaining, I'm definitely intimidated by Michelle, because I feel like she always turns out.
She has a really good eye for color and texture.
And this is classy.
People often draw inspiration from animals when they go to masquerades Yeah.
And I've been, like, creating this almost fringe, and I'm planning on layering it, and it would almost, I think, look like feathers.
Gunnar's taking the biggest risk, making a top that's feathered, because I don't know how that's gonna read across to the judges.
You just have to place it right, though.
Right.
'Cause if you put it in the wrong position, then she's just gonna look like she's got a hairy chest.
Ugh.
Brocade is better when you're doing something structured.
If this is a wide leg idea, it's gonna look stiff.
Crazy.
She's gonna look like she's got square legs.
[Laughs.]
I'm doing a jumpsuit, but it might become a two-piece.
Right, talking about a jumpsuit, that's such a modern silhouette.
If you have time, go for a jumpsuit.
She's going to a bachelorette party.
Okay.
I like to put pockets in everything.
She's going to the strip club, so she might need to put her money in there.
She's going to the strip club? Yes, it's her bachelorette party, why not? I'm coming to your bachelorette party.
But if she's going to Vegas, she will blend right in.
There needs to be something pushed about this.
It still needs some "umph.
" You're right.
Okay, All Stars.
It's time to forget the hand that you were dealt, and it's time to focus on being super creative.
All right, on that, get to work.
All: Thank you.
Thanks, Zanna.
Do you realize that you said that you and your godmother play Russian roulette, which is where you put a bullet in a gun, and then you, like Did I say that? Pull the trigger? What? And Zanna's face was like, "okay.
" [Laughter.]
It was an accident.
I was tired.
She was probably "scurred.
" [Laughter.]
Nope, that's why she gave me a good critique.
[Laughter.]
Hey.
Hey.
Let's see how this fits.
It's gonna look beautiful against your skin tone.
You look good in some warm tones.
I put her in the dress, and I really like it.
She looks like a Phoenix meets butterfly.
I think it's pretty.
I'm just trying to get the hemline right.
Not too short because I don't want her to be slutty, but not too long because I don't want her to be conservative.
I don't know if that's the material he chose.
Justin's model looks 50 pounds heavier than she is.
Jay's look is for a Sunday brunch, but she looks like she's going out to the club.
I'm giving you my friendly-- mm-hmm.
But it looks kind of club girl.
Okay, I'll fix it.
It's not fixing, it's just-- but-- there's nothing wrong with it.
Yeah.
I'm fitting my girl.
You don't need to come to me and tell me what the hell is wrong with my piece.
That's the last thing I need.
Sorry--no, it's-- sorry.
No, you're beautiful, and it looks amazing.
[Clears throat.]
All: Bye.
See you in the morning.
[Bleep.]
Called my [Bleep.]
a club girl look.
Who said that? No, it--I-- her.
She looks very fashion forwardFor brunch.
Oh, that's what you should have said, right? I was just looking out.
No, don't come at me like that.
[Bleep.]
Called my [Bleep.]
a club girl look.
Who said that? No, it--I-- her.
I was just looking out.
No, don't come at me like that.
Whatever.
But I appreciate you saying that to my face.
I wish you'd do that about other designers.
Oh.
Ooh.
I wasn't trying to insult you at all.
It's a beautiful dress.
Don't call me a bitch.
To bring it to that level is really rude.
I feel guilty for having made Jay feel insulted, but to respond the way he did was just totally unprofessional.
Don't come to me in the middle of my fitting and tell me my [Bleep.]
looks like a club girl.
Maybe she forgot to say, "country club.
" [Laughter.]
They have--they have brunch at country clubs.
This is the point of the competition where the knives are out.
Everybody wants that cash, and it's funny to see who goes at each other.
Hey, five minutes.
Okay.
I have so much [Bleep.]
to do.
I don't even have a top.
Really? Don't have a top.
It's the end of the day.
Normally, people are like, "oh, well, here's my to-do list.
Got to hem.
Got to maybe put in a zipper.
" I don't even know what this thing's gonna look like.
That's time.
Put your work down.
Let's go home.
Come on, dima.
All right, ladies.
Let's get it.
What happened? Oh, right, all my work's in the other room.
Excuse me.
It's the morning of the runway, and I have loads-- and when I say loads, I mean loads--to do on this bodice.
So here's to hoping I've got, like, a not-in-the-bottom-looking look.
I think I'm in the safe float zone meets bottom feeders.
Safe float zone meets bottom? Yeah, you never know.
I feel like Gunnar psyched himself out, because at the beginning of the workday yesterday, he had a really nice idea for the bodice, then he got changing it and changing it, and if you don't have focus, you're not gonna finish on time.
And when it comes down to it, it's all about the execution.
[Bleep.]
They could love it.
Hey, ladies.
Hi.
Yay.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, let's put this sucker on.
All right, I need to fit the pants first.
I like the shape this is giving you.
Okay, it's tricky with silk.
I mean, it's too tight, so it'll get all, like, puckery, and I hate that.
I want to keep the garment loose and not fitted, so I have a lot more to do.
All right, let's take it off.
Ow.
Yeah, it's a little tight, but that's okay.
They're either gonna love us today, Colleen, or they're gonna hate us.
They're gonna love us.
I hope they love us.
Yeah, take that off.
Aw, [Bleep.]
, that's what i should have done, okay.
I still don't know what this piece is gonna look like.
I know ultimately, it has to be on my model for me to make the final decision of how I will lay these front pleats down.
So it's starting to look like a real dress, which is good.
Let's go to the Mary Kay color design studio.
Okay.
Put your face on, girl.
She's going to a gallery opening.
I'm gonna base it all with the Mary Kay eye gel.
I want it to look like she wore it last night, and she woke up 12 hours later.
We're set.
Perty.
She has got kind of, like, a Phoenix effect happening with her dress.
We just play with these blushers.
Really pop it.
I really loved her look from last week.
So just kind of gel Same feel.
Piecey, and then back.
Twisty, twisty, twisty, really tight.
Today at the chi hair care salon, I'm gonna really need their help.
I really want this to go on her head.
Sounds beautiful.
One hour, guys.
One hour to the runway.
Ooh, hoo.
[Laughs.]
Wow, way to pull it out of your ass, sonj.
Sonjia, she definitely succeeded with the bachelorette party look.
It's very gold, gold, glitter.
Okay, this is good.
She's one of the biggest competitors at this point because no matter what, she always [Exultant cheer.]
I am a changing room.
Michelle, i like what she did with the layers of laces, but I don't really like that she's putting horsehair in the hip area.
Let's try one thing.
Why do you want to make her ass look three times bigger than it is? I'll be right back.
Okay, I didn't get a chance to finish this side, but I'd rather have clothes on you than you go naked.
Walk to me, love.
I love it.
Gunnar's final look.
I just wish that his design matched his fabric choice.
It's a little student work.
It's different.
All right, guys, we have three minutes.
Three minutes.
Pooty pooty.
That goes to the back.
I know it feels very comfortable, but please don't sit.
That fabric is out of this world.
Thanks.
When I think masquerade, i think masks and sex with strangers and fun, and that's none of those things.
It's, like, uptight bridesmaid in the '80s.
Early '90s.
All right, guys, that's time! Let's go.
Sonjia, you turned it out, girl.
I hope they think so.

[Indistinct.]
.
All: Hi.
Hi.
All right, All Stars.
This week, we asked you to prove that you can handle anything with your very own fashion gamble.
You rolled the All Stars dice to decide your own fabric and the event to design for.
The stakes are high this week [All chuckling.]
So let's meet tonight's judges.
First, cofounder and designer of luxury brand Marchesa, Ms.
Georgina Chapman.
Hi, designers.
[Applause.]
Welcome back.
Thank you.
Next, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, Mr.
Isaac Mizrahi.
[Applause.]
Hi.
Hey.
Our guest designer this week has married critical acclaim with commercial success.
He's collaborated with major brands: Uniqlo, gap, Barney's, and gant.
Please welcome cfda winner Michael bastian.
Hey, designers.
[Applause.]
All right, high rollers.
I'm gonna be wearing this design after I give birth [Laughter.]
For a photo shoot in Marie Claireso don't let me or yourselves down.
It's time to go all in.
Have a great show.
All: Thank you.
My goal was to be safe, but as my look's coming down the runway, I'm like, "hey, now, hey, now.
She's looking pretty good coming down that runway.
" Get it, girl.
I feel like maybe I do have a chance to win.
Oh, that's gorgeous.
I love my look.
It's a very old look, and I'm hoping the judges will appreciate it.
I love what I did, but I also have this concern.
It's a masquerade piece, and I'm up against pieces that are going to a sophisticated art gallery.
I'm either set up for compete success or complete failure.
Ooh-LA-LA.
Where's she going? An awards show to win all the awards.
I see my model on the runway, and I'm kind of like, "okay, the cherubs can come out from wherever they're hiding and just, like, swoop around her.
" I like what I did.
It's easy, and I think it's very modern, so I'm happy.
Wow, looks like liquid.
She looks like she's going to a fancy Sunday brunch.
I'm so excited that she's not looking like she's going to the club.
My girl looks like she's going to the vmas, she's gonna get photographed, and everyone's gonna love it.
I think, like, "is my outfit something that would look good on Alyssa?" And I'm like, "hell, yeah, it is," like, it would look super cute on her, and I really hope that I win.
Oh, my God.
Look at that color.
Shine.
Yup.
I really like the color.
I think it plays out with her natural skin color.
She looks absolutely stunning.
If someone came to my studio telling me that they want to go to a masquerade ball dressed in denim, this is exactly what I would give them.
Man, everything shines on that.
I love it.
I think my model looks really great walking the runway.
She's got a lot of color, it pops, this material looks just awesome.
Designers, if I call your name, please step forward.
Jay.
Dmitry.
Sam.
You guys are safe.
Thank you.
We'll see you next week.
You can leave the runway.
Both: Thank you.
The rest of you will receive this week's critique.
One of you is the winner this week.
And one of you will be going home.
[Dramatic music.]
Helen, let's start with you.
What was your fashion gamble? Brocade and award ceremony.
So lo and behold, in mood, I found this amazing textured brocade.
By using the face of the fabric and the back side, I thought it would give it a little more dimension.
I do like the concept of a skirt and a top.
I think that's fresh.
I am a little concerned about having a slit and having a midriff showing and a corset with a deep plunge.
I think perhaps you could have edited and made one choice.
Right.
The skirt does look a little tight, but I love the seaming on the skirt.
When you say the word "brocade," my brain explodes.
You know? I want it to be something so luxurious, you know, sort of Catherine the great, and here, I'm thinking, like, sort of comfy English sofa.
You know, probably in Georgina's apartment or something.
[Laughter.]
You mentioned something that I'm a big believer in, which is if you have a fabric, always see what it looks like on the back side.
So I'm really happy you experimented with that.
Thank you.
Let's move on to sonjia.
So I rolled, and I got brocade and bachelorette party.
I just kind of thought, "well, I'm engaged.
Why don't I make something that I would wear for a bachelorette party?" And I'd go to Vegas.
And she'd have a pocket where she can store her ones to go to the strip club.
[Laughter.]
Why not? You certainly achieved what you set out to achieve.
And I love that you brought Vegas up, 'cause I was gonna bring Vegas up too.
I feel like this girl is the bachelorette party.
I think you're the one to beat.
You've been in the top how many-- three times.
Yeah, well, that's pretty good.
When you bring up Vegas, I think like, "oh, yeah, it might look really kind of edgy," and a short dress might look tawdry or something, but this doesn't.
This looks really super young and super rich.
The only comment I would make--the draping is a touch heavy up on the shoulder.
On the neck? Maybe if you'd had more time, you might have cut away some of the fabric underneath.
Thank you.
Justin, let's move on to you.
For the fashion gamble, the fabric I got was silk.
The event I got is a gallery opening.
I found this fabric, which is very architectural.
And that became the inspiration for the silhouette.
My favorite part of this dress is the neckline.
Can you turn slowly? I mean, that's beautiful.
I will say I feel like you're missing, somehow, on the proportion of the whole dress.
Something about the cross bust looks matronly.
I think it just wants to lose a sleeve.
I think that's what's the problem.
I think it just feels a bit heavy with the dress.
Okay.
Of all of the designers, your dice kind of rolled kind of the easiest combination.
You had silk, and you had a gallery opening.
And I would have expected you could really have found some great stuff to put together.
Okay.
Gunnar.
I got a brocade, masquerade.
I was originally thinking about, like, masquerades that were based on animals, and when we went to mood, I found this fabric.
I saw that the edges were fraying, and I liked the colors that were coming through, so I started to make this trim detail almost to kind of give it that feathery vibe, and then I chose to do a high low so that it would kind of bounce as she walked, almost kind of reminding me, like, a butterfly wing.
I like the dress.
I'm not a huge high low fan just because it's hard for short people to wear high low.
This dress, I just think, is like, for me, a miss, because there is something, like, so weirdly unresolved about that fringe.
It's such a good idea.
It looks like you made that fabric into something completely else, but somehow, it looks inexpensive.
It just does.
It's made the top look incredibly unflattering.
You built up her waist so she looks very straight up and down, which is a shame.
Could you turn around to the side, please? My one criticism of the dress is how you reconciled those diagonal strips kind of coming together.
All of these are hand-tacked on, so it's not tied.
I kind of wanted-- so it's supposed to feel kind of random? Yeah.
Maybe it needed to be just a touch more random then.
Michelle, time for your critique.
I rolled the die and got lace and gallery opening.
Taking four different laces, I did the gradation where she would need coverage the most.
So darker here, getting to the lighter.
And then opposite.
I think you picked probably the most difficult color to work with, but then you really did an excellent job.
Beautiful construction.
It looks expensive.
There's nothing I don't love about this.
Awesome.
I love the kind of little, dirty bra showing.
It's a dirty, little wink.
Yeah.
And I think that's who you are.
You're like a dirty, little wink, you know.
Yes.
[Laughter.]
And one thing I will kind of talk about a little bit is the fit of the skirt, and I understand.
I get it, everybody wants to do padded hips, but they're very, very tricky.
To do them right, you have to have a lot of time.
I thought, "how smart," how you took this almost neon chartreuse.
It's brilliant with the gold.
I love it.
Thank you.
Fabio.
I rolled denim, and my girl's going to a masquerade ball.
So that was a challenge in itself.
Obviously, when we think of denim, it's kind of, like, mundane, everyday fabrics, and I wanted to elevate that to, like, a high ball kind of level.
I think you know the dress is fine.
I do feel that to get denim and masquerade is such an interesting juxtaposition that I almost wish you had just used denim and just really gone for it and given us something really unusual.
I've been in the mood denim department, and there's every kind of denim, and somehow you found the least denim-y denim, if that really is denim.
I think the thing that works against you is that this denim looks like bubblegum pink taffeta, and had this dress been made in pink taffeta, I don't think you would like it even.
I think Georgina's being nice when she says that that dress is okay.
I don't think it's okay.
I really don't.
There are a load of things wrong with that dress on that girl, and I am divorcing the terrible styling from it.
You know? It doesn't look finished.
It looks like a muslin or something, like you were in process of thinking of the actual dress, and you tried this, and it was like, "whoa.
You know, let's move on to the real dress.
" Thank you to all of our designers.
It's time for the judges and I to deliberate.
You can wait in the back stage lounge.
We'll call you back.
Hey, guys.
Hi.
Sonjia? They liked it.
I went through a whole process with having a different fabric, so I'm glad I changed the fabric.
Well, I want to say this on behalf of fabio and I-- they were not in the mood for a masquerade.
I'm still happy with it.
You know, like, it's exactly-- I love mine too.
I think that we all are attached to our pieces.
It's just how it is.
Yeah.
So this week's challenge was quite a gamble, huh? Let's talk about our high scores.
Shall we start with Helen? I like this idea of taking something fussy potentially and giving it that midriff.
The idea felt fresh.
And I could see it at an awards ceremony.
There were a few too many ideas in there for me.
It was a little bit of a mess.
I don't think the average person would go in there and pick that color.
You know, she really took a risk there.
Let's talk about Michelle.
I love the color palette.
I thought that that was really original.
I'm always impressed when someone can take a color I naturally am opposed to and make me like it.
I just thought it was so smart and original, and the way she degradated that fabric was so clever.
The skirt needs revisiting, but that's okay, because this is such a fresh idea.
I really got a sense there was a lot of joy in the finished product.
Okay, so let's talk about sonjia.
It was fabulous, that dress.
Everything about it was just plum, right? Like, the drapery, the skirt, the pockets.
She had the balance.
And it was perfect for the challenge.
Or as you would say, it was very snappy.
Snappy, yes.
I'm missing something with this dress.
When she said Vegas, I was already kind of You were there.
Halfway there with, like, Caesars Palace cocktail waitress.
I wasn't getting that chic vibe from it so much.
The bottom's super hard this week.
I know, it really, really is.
This might take a long time, darling.
Should we pee first? Maybe.
No, seriously, do you have to pee? No, I'm good.
Okay.
Let's start with Justin.
I just didn't feel anything from this dress.
I didn't hate it.
I didn't love it.
I hate this word, but it felt common, you know.
Very.
It was like we've seen it a million times, you know.
And not done well.
And he was handed kind of the easiest roll of the dice.
Yeah.
That, to me, just feels lazy.
Let's talk about fabio.
That was an epic failure.
What happened? I don't know.
I don't believe that's denim.
It was neither denim nor masquerade ball.
I'm baffled.
To put a bubblegum pink dress Right? With these sort of mauve gloves Yeah, no, that's bad.
And then stick a necklace on your head.
That was bad, yeah.
It just felt so unoriginal.
Fabio's is aggressively awful.
But Gunnar's is somewhat clueless.
Well, here's the deal.
I feel like Gunnar was really going for something.
He mentioned feathers and butterflies, which to me, is very masquerade ball.
I did think it was very smart the way that he took that fabric and did something interesting with it, but it felt very juvenile, and it wasn't flattering.
That fabric did not look okay.
In a way, it's, like, an insult to every bird and butterfly I ever saw, you know? [Laughter.]
What do you guys do when it's this close? We slap people.
We start slapping people to agree with us.
Sometimes, a cage just comes down, and we wrestle.
[Laughter.]
Or, like, you're on a trap, and the trap might just open Right.
And there you go.
Problem solved.
Exactly.
So I think that means we've come to a decision, right? Okay, let's bring them back out.
[Dramatic music.]
Designers, one of you is the winner this week, and one of you will be going home.
Designers, you took your fate into your own hands this week.
So it's time to find out if your fashion gamble paid off.
Helen, you're safe.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We'll see you next week.
Nice to meet you.
Michelle, sonjia, I'll be wearing one of your designs in a Marie Claire photo shoot.
This week's winner is Sonjia.
Really? Yeah.
Thank you guys so much.
Congratulations, good work.
You're gonna look fabulous.
And great job to you too, Michelle.
Thanks.
Thanks, see you next week.
Thank you.
It feels amazing to feel like the judges really appreciate my work.
I feel like I've grown so much from my season to now, and I feel like I really have a chance of taking home the gold.
I really do.
[All cheering.]
Congratulations.
I can't believe it.
It happened--is it for real? Congrats.
Ooh, sorry.
Justin, you had one of the low scores, but you are safe this week.
Thank you.
You can leave the runway.
And that leaves Gunnar and fabio.
Tonight, one of you will be in, and one of you will be out.
Gunnar, you took a really interesting approach to fabric manipulation, but the design and the proportions of your dress felt so random.
Fabio, we do appreciate that you set out to do something different, but your bubblegum pink fabric missed the mark.
The eliminated designer is Gunnar.
Whew.
Which means fabio, you can stay in the competition.
Thank you guys You can leave the runway.
So much.
I love you, fabs.
I love you too.
Gunnar, thank you so much for joining us on All Stars.
Thank you, this has been an incredible experience, and it's such an honorable panel of judges to be critiqued by.
Thank you.
So thank you guys for having me.
I'm actually gonna try to get up and hug you.
Isaac, help me! Uh-ohh.
I'm kidding, I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay.
Seriously.
I'll duck down anyway.
Thank you so much, Alyssa.
Thank you.
Take care, bless you.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate it.
Being eliminated, for me, is not a closed door.
It's a hundred of them opening.
Hi, love.
I am so grateful to have gotten to experience this, and I feel proud of myself for going so full force as a designer.
Here's the way I look at it, it is a competition, and as long as you love what you did and you understand that we're winning by being here, it's an incredible accomplishment for all of us.
I'm not devastated over this.
I actually feel really optimistic.
I love you all.
Love you too.
Bye, guys.
I see this experience like a Phoenix.
They rise from their ashes, and that's what this is for me.
It's a rebirth.
I'm excited to see what comes.
Next, on Project Runway: All Stars.
You'll design outfits for two singles about to go on their first date.
That means we're dressing a man.
Maybe I should do menswear.
It's something that I can do.
I have no idea what I'm doing.
I'll just be happy if I get something on this man.
I don't design around a penis every day.
What the hell are you thinking? It'll look like she just won a pageant.
He looks like he's been married for 20 years.
It doesn't look like a first date.
It looks like a first trimester.
Was there a kiss on the date? Not yet.
Now, did you want a kiss? If things don't work out, you should call me.
Oh, my God.
[Laughter.]
