Hudson and Rex (2019) s04e07 Episode Script

A Stab in the Dark Web

Keep those knees up! We're almost there, friends.
Countdown is coming! You can do it! You've come this far! And six! - Come on Iris! - Five, four! And nicely done! Now we're going to drop onto our mat! Hello, my sweets.
(SPRAY BOTTLE MISTING) Look at you grow! (OMINOUS MUSIC) (REX BARKS) SARAH: Hey, Rex.
(REX BARKS) - He's in a good mood.
- CHARLIE: Yeah.
He's excited about the new toy that I got him.
(REX SNIFFING) New toy? Did I miss Rex's birthday or something? It's just something that we saw on TV.
The SPEECHxPET.
Suckered into a late night infomercial again? (THEY CHUCKLE) Do you have her name? Iris Cross, widow.
- Just shy of 70.
- Iris Cross? Is that the woman who brings the poinsettias to the station - during the holidays? - Yeah.
Yeah, she grew them all herself.
Yeah.
A fair amount of blood.
It's more than I'd expect from natural causes.
Yeah, wouldn't be too hard to break into the place.
Dirt around the body.
Signs of a struggle.
Time of death? Yesterday.
Late afternoon, early evening.
Who would who would have reason to kill a sweet old lady? What have you got, pal? (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) (CHARLIE WHISTLES) Wow.
Are those magic mushrooms? Rex, I think you've just sniffed out the city's newest psychedelic grow-op.
How's that for a reason to kill a sweet old lady? (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) (UPBEAT THEME MUSIC) DONOVAN: When I was with Drug Squad, we found our share of shroom grow-ops.
But never quite in a place like this.
An eighth was called a slice when I was in college.
Anyone got a slice with mushrooms on it? Or so I heard around campus.
Okay.
I bet.
Does Mike know about your wild past? Um, I like to maintain a little mystery.
(DONOVAN LAUGHS) Okay.
So this looks like more than she would need for personal use.
Okay so what's the street value here? An operation this size, could be anywhere from 20 to 40K.
So half of the trays are empty.
Looks like they've been dug out with bare hands.
Yeah, this crime scene looks like a robbery gone bad.
Yeah, but I just talked to the neighbour and she said that Iris wouldn't know the difference between a magic mushroom and a toadstool.
Okay, I got a clean thumb print from the cabinets.
Belongs to a Lewis Cross.
Yeah, this is Iris's grandson.
The neighbour said that he's a piece of work.
He have a record? Looks like a drug store B&E from a while back.
Rex, let's go have a chat with him.
Come on, pal.
(REX BARKS) Okay, got it, partner.
Is someone in there? Excuse me.
Police.
Can we talk a moment? Sorry to wake you up.
You Lewis Cross? - Yeah, that's me.
- You sleeping in your car today? I lost my house keys.
Is that a crime or something? - (REX BARKS) - No, but I think my dog smells one.
Will you pop this trunk, please? (REX BARKING) My granny Iris.
She can't be dead.
I just saw her.
- When was that? - Uh Yesterday afternoon, around 4:00.
She was about to do her exercises.
I thought she'd outlive us all.
Lewis.
We don't believe that she died of natural causes.
And from the sounds of things, you were the last person to see her alive.
I could never hurt her.
I owe her everything I have in my life.
That include greenhouse space for an illegal growop? Hmm? - Rex here is a trained K9 officer.
- (REX BARKS) His interest in your trunk isn't just his way of saying hello.
- You know what I mean? - Yeah.
Those are all from my granny's house.
All that's in there are some knitted baby clothes she sold on Etsy.
Well, no baby bonnets in here, Lewis.
Tell me about the psychedelics.
I'm innocent.
And I can prove it.
See? It's all in here.
It was all my granny's.
She wrapped her packages here and then she gave them to me to mail.
I didn't know there were drugs inside.
These bags do match.
All I did was take them to the post office.
(OMINOUS MUSIC) Looks like Rex is on to something.
Let's go.
(REX BARKING) - Hey, buddy! - (REX SNIFFING) Hey, you're so handsome! That's not for you! Could you get your dog to let go of the bag, please? CHARLIE: Ma'am, he's a cop.
He senses something of interest in your bag.
Let me see, pal.
What have you got? The parcel's the same as the ones in Iris's house.
Yeah, except this one is addressed to her.
Pills.
Ephedrine.
Diet pills.
These are basically speed.
Wait so Iris wasn't just selling drugs, she was buying them too? (REX SNIFFING) That package is also identical.
Yeah but this one is addressed to a Sal Costa.
What do you know about these packages? MAILPERSON: Used to see them one or two times a month.
But now it's two or three times a week! Oxy.
- Another home run, Rex.
- (REX BARKS) Since when did illegal drugs start moving through the mail? JESSE: Meet the future of drug trafficking.
It's called Tempest's Way.
It is a dark web black market for drugs and other illegal services.
Think eBay for all your illicit needs.
And this was on Iris's laptop? Yeah, yeah.
Seems like Granny liked the dark web.
She even knew how to hide her activity with a secure browser.
CHARLIE: So she was selling mushrooms on the Tempest's Way and she was using the same site to buy diet pills.
Yeah, exactly, and without the fear of detection.
See, Tempest's Way is a premium dark web spot for buying and selling psilocybin.
Now, it's used to traffic other drugs too but it started with psilocybin which could be why it was the perfect fit for Iris's crop.
Now a secure browser like Tor would get you onto the dark web.
Once you're there, you can access the site's listings and create your own.
Listings are visible to any and all users from in this city to across the country to around the world.
- (COMPUTER PINGS) - Once a sale is made, the website offers specific instructions to the user on packaging to avoid detection.
DONOVAN: This is why all the packages look the same.
CHARLIE: With no return address and printed labels.
- It's complete seller anonymity.
- JESSE: Exactly.
Just drop it in the mail and let the postal service do the rest.
Now for the buying of drugs, Iris used the site the same way.
Illegal substances are a simple scroll away.
For Iris, it was the ephedrine pills.
And you pay for it using Bitcoin.
A digital, untraceable currency.
DONOVAN: Leaving no financial connection between buyer and seller.
CHARLIE: And the drugs are just delivered right to your door.
It seems Iris's murder led us to a thriving online drug bazaar.
I wouldn't be so sure about murder.
Iris suffered a druginduced seizure from that ephedrine.
The pills I tested had three times the fatal dosage.
DONOVAN: Poor woman had no clue.
That's what happens without regulation.
What about the excessive blood at the scene? She was on anticoagulants.
So it wasn't a homicide? SARAH: No, I think the seizure must have caused her to drop her pots.
And just give it the appearance of a struggle? Hold on.
I don't care if no one laid a hand on this woman.
This was not an accident.
Administering an illegal substance causing death is criminal negligence.
If not manslaughter.
And Tempest's Way is to blame.
CHARLIE: We've got to shut the site down or else there's going to be victims like Iris all over the Rock.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC) DONOVAN: So I spoke to some friends at departments around the country and from Toronto to Montreal to Vancouver, they're are all starting to see Tempest's Way's telltale packaging.
- What are the contents? - It runs the gamut.
From college students who are trying to buy Adderall to athletes who are trying to buy experimental pain meds.
Okay, so Tempest's Way is popular.
Yeah and it's growing.
But no one's seeing numbers quite like us.
We're confiscating packages at a rate of three to one.
Yeah, and because we're confiscating more packages than other regions, there's a good chance the founder is in our own back yard.
I mean, sites like this often start local then expand.
CRAIGSLIST: San Francisco.
KIJIJI: Quebec City.
So catch the person who's at the top.
Find the founder, find the server.
Shut down the server, shut down Tempest's Way for good.
But the system is anonymous.
Yeah, I mean the real identity of the guy running Tempest Way is anonymous.
But he's all over the site.
His username is Mercurius.
Oh, Roman god of commerce and thievery.
Oh, you guys call me a nerd! Oh, who's the nerd now? Yeah.
People regard him as a god and he happily plays the part.
Well, if he's active on the site, then it's just a matter of infiltrating it, right? Yeah, what are you thinking, Joe? DONOVAN: If we gain his trust on the dark web, we can find some information that we can use in the real world to get an arrest.
Lucky for you, Tempest's has an online chat function.
SARAH: So can we check Iris's chat history then? Maybe she's been in contact with Mercurius.
No, messages get deleted once someone replies to them.
There are no archives.
I have a feeling that someone of Iris's age would have trouble with a chat-deleting feature.
If she's anything like my grandmother, she writes everything down.
Maybe I'll go through her stuff, see if she has a notebook.
- That's a good idea.
- In the meantime, I will get you started on a Tempest's Way username.
What do you think of Breaking Bud? (REX GROANS) I think it's terrible.
JESSE: Okay! You're just about good to go.
Just need to set up that username.
I'm more interested in how to get Mercurius's attention.
Someone like him, he's probably getting hundreds of messages a day.
Well, the website's code is rudimentary.
I mean he's a self taught coder, I think.
So maybe pose as a programmer willing to help.
Me? Pose as a programmer? Yeah, right.
Never mind.
Plus, pointing out the flaws in his work will only serve to bruise his ego.
We should be looking to appeal to them.
JESSE: Mmmm! Flatter the criminal entrepreneur? (KEYBOARD CLACKING) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Your username is Janus? Yeah.
If Sarah was right and Mercurius is a fan of mythology, then he'll appreciate the handle.
Janus was the Roman god of new beginnings.
How is that supposed to help us? Well, I'm posing as a tech investor with a proposal to buy the website.
And if he doesn't sell, then the god of new beginnings will be meeting a dead end.
- You know you can go at any time, Jesse.
- Sure.
- You want a coffee or anything? - I do not want a coffee.
What? - Iris printed everything.
- Yeah, I'm looking at receipts from Christmas '98.
What have you got? Every single password she ever used, it looks like.
And everything's tennis-related.
RogersCup85.
FedererSwiss.
(SARAH CHUCKLES) Michael would love that.
(REX WHINES) - Oh yeah? He's a tennis fan? - Yeah, big time.
Uh, not that I would share case details, but - He'd dig this.
- Oh yeah.
Sounds like - things are going well with Michael.
- Yeah! - We're seeing a movie tonight, actually.
- Ah! This could be, turn into something, huh? Yeah, I mean, it's still new, but you know he's fun, he's smart.
We both like to run.
What's this? It looks like Iris took screen grabs of a conversation she had with a Tempest's Way customer service rep.
User Starling9.
Let's see.
Oh, it looks like the rep is answering Iris's questions about how to price mushrooms.
- (REX WHINES) - Wait a second.
A customer service rep would work with Mercurius.
They'd know who they were.
We should probably get this to Jesse.
Oh hey, wait.
You've got a movie to get to.
You go.
I'll take this.
- Are you sure? - Yeah, you go.
Okay, I appreciate it.
Good night, you two.
(REX WHINES) Mmmm.
Okay, buddy.
I think I've finally got this figured out, okay? Ha.
Ready? Okay, so this one here that's food.
Ready? TOY: Bathroom! That's - I don't know what's going on with this thing.
- TOY: Bathroom! Everything is online now.
- (REX WHINING) - No pal.
It doesn't actually mean go to the bathroom.
(REX BARKS) All right.
Okay, yeah, we can go.
Easy, pal.
Any luck with Mercurius? No, no contact yet.
But I'm hopeful.
Jesse, any news on Starling9? Well, they're really, really good at hiding themselves.
I was doing some thinking outside the box and outside the dark web.
See, most people are loyal to their usernames.
I mean, they start using them even before they know how to hide themselves online.
Tell me Starling9 is one of these people.
JESSE: I found the username attached to an email in an old Reddit thread discussing experimental pharma.
- And that told you who they are? - JESSE: Better than who.
Where.
That same email is currently using an IP address that I traced to the wifi at a hookah bar on Water Street right now.
- Well, we should go pay them a visit.
- JESSE: If we do, do you think we can try to apprehend Starling9's laptop? They're constantly answering users' questions on Tempest's.
CHARLIE: Which means there's a good chance that they're logged in to the site at the bar.
And if we can confiscate the laptop while they're logged in, then we can hopefully get in through the back end of Tempest's Way and find Mercurius.
Anybody on the dark web would be suspicious of a police presence.
(REX WHINES) - Unless a friendly dog throws them off.
- (REX BARKS) A friendly dog and his incognito police friend? - Sure.
- (REX BARKS) - I'm not wearing a wig though.
- (SARAH CHUCKLES) (BHANGRA MUSIC) JESSE: Okay, Charlie.
Come in, Charlie.
Yeah, I hear you, Jesse.
How is the Rex Cam working? Well, I am getting a clear shot of the whole perimeter.
- Try to blend in.
- Apple, please.
(COMPUTER PINGS) Starling9 just answered a question on the site.
Do you see anybody typing on their laptop? Yeah, I see somebody right in front of me.
(KEYBOARD CLACKING) Okay, I am grabbing a screenshot of her to run through our database.
Good.
Come on, Rex.
(HOOKAH BUBBLING) (HOOKAH BUBBLING) What flavour? - Apple.
- Ooh.
Taking off a point for that.
- How many points do I have? - One less now.
(CHARLIE CHUCKLES) Two if you don't stop flirting with me.
You just can't stop smiling at me.
(WOMAN CHUCKLES) What's your dog's name? - Rex.
- Hi, Rex.
What a cutie.
Does your owner use you often to help pick up strangers? I don't need a dog to pick up.
Rex, do I need a dog to pick up? - (REX BARKS) - Apparently, I do.
(WOMAN LAUGHS) Ah, thanks pal.
He called you out, huh? Oh, no.
She has a USB kill switch.
Okay, as soon as she pulls the USB out, the content on the laptop gets deleted.
That USB has to stay in or else the whole operation's toast.
- Do you understand? - So you've met Rex.
Charlie, and uh I'm (OMINOUS MUSIC) - (PHONE BEEPS) - I'm leaving.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) I'm leaving.
He a problem? Not really.
Just a guy who can't take no for an answer.
Okay, Charlie, don't go anywhere without getting that laptop.
Listen, why don't you join Rex and I? - I wish I could.
- (CHARLIE WHISTLES) - Bye, Charlie.
- (REX GROWLS) Your dog! Rex! Charlie! Will you get him off me? Okay, uh Starling9 just pulled the kill switch.
Detective Hudson.
I'd like to have a word with you.
(EVA SCOFFS) Why am I here? Because Eva Reed, username Starling9, you work for Tempest's Way.
It's a dangerous website.
We want to shut it down.
Dangerous? No, dangerous is the police operating a sting on a law abiding citizen.
You help traffic illegal drugs.
Not exactly the definition of law abiding.
Unjust laws are not laws at all.
That's St.
Augustine.
You're a libertarian.
Do I lose a point for that? You know, you may think as a customer service rep that you have no responsibility for what your employer does, but you talked to this woman here, Iris Cross.
Look at her.
Username magicmoonball3.
You helped her learn how to use the site.
- It's not a crime to help people.
- No, it's not.
After you helped her, she bought unregulated pills and those pills killed her.
What? Oh, no.
I remember this woman.
She was a sweetheart.
Oh, no.
Are you charging me with anything? Help us.
We'll take it into consideration.
You tell us what you know about Mercurius.
Charge me if you want but I'm not interested in helping the police.
(REX WHINES) Except if Rex wants a scratch.
(REX WHINES) (EVA LAUGHS) DONOVAN: We have a new problem, people.
An hour ago, Mercurius posted this death threat worth two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in Bitcoin.
It's a hit on Eva? JESSE: The reward is for anyone who eliminates her for good.
Mercurius says that Eva's in police custody divulging sensitive information.
- She hasn't divulged a thing.
- Doesn't matter.
He thinks she's flipped.
And now he wants her dead.
(REX WHINES) (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) We need to protect Eva from whoever might take this post seriously.
Well I mean, it's the dark web.
Consider any and all views potentially serious.
Right.
Mercurius said he was tipped off.
JESSE: Crap.
Guys.
Eva's been doxxed.
Mercurius just posted everything an amateur hitman could want.
A photo of her, her address, her driver's license, her arrest report.
The contract hit has over a hundred views.
Should we move her to a cell? No, arrest report means we've likely been hacked.
We should assume that all cells and safe houses have been compromised.
Yeah, we need a new, private and secure location fast.
Hold on.
What about your place Charlie? Okay.
A few ground rules for your protection.
No going outside.
Turn your phone off.
No electronics.
Can't risk a security breach.
And other than that, I don't know.
Make yourself at home.
Rules are not going to protect me from a hitman's bullet.
No bullet is going to find you here.
Why do cops always exude hubris? I don't know.
Maybe it's because they didn't teach us Greek in the Academy, so we just don't know any better.
Hey.
How many views has the post had? You really want to know that? You know, the site's grown really fast but no one's ever put a hit on it before.
I can't believe Mercurius would do this.
Allowing handgun and weapon sales? Yeah, I believe that.
But this? That's why we want to shut it down.
Well maybe you will.
The question is, will it be too late for me? (REX WHINES) Look, Rex and I are going to protect you.
Okay? We've got a surveillance team in place.
They're in the van outside.
- What do you think about her? - Hmm? Well, I read her posts.
She definitely drank the Tempest KoolAid.
She must have.
Mercurius puts a hit out on her life and she still hasn't given him up.
Yeah, I don't know maybe she doesn't know who he is.
I think there's more to it than that.
Okay, thanks.
Just let me know if anything changes.
Any news from your cop friends? Uh everything's fine.
There's nothing to worry about, but, the sooner we catch this guy, the sooner you're free to go.
So why don't you tell me about Mercurius? You ever off the clock? What's that thing? - Hey.
- That? This is some toy Rex saw on TV.
It's supposed to like help him talk.
- If it worked.
- Aww.
Poor Rex.
Your human doesn't even know how to program a simple toy.
Well, okay.
Rex, let's try this again.
Come here, pal.
Ready? Food.
TOY: Bathroom! That's impressive.
(REX BARKS) - No, pal.
I didn't mean to - (REX BARKS) Uhhh okay.
Just one sec.
I'll be back.
(DOOR CLOSING) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) (KEYBOARD CLACKING) Yeah, I know, Camilla.
When in doubt, order takeout.
That's your solution to everything, I know.
(COMPUTER PINGS) You know what, honey? I've got to go.
- (KEYBOARD CLACKING) - Thanks.
What's your price for the website? A billion? Who does he think he is? Your website is not worth that yet.
Then you need my help.
I have resources.
Congratulations, Janus.
You have entered the inner circle of trust.
Okay.
- Hey Eva, what did I say about ? - Relax.
I'm just finishing the job you started.
I fixed the glitch.
TOY: What is free choice, Charlie? I think I liked it better when it just said bathroom.
(EVA LAUGHS) I'll put the app on your phone.
Then you can adjust it from anywhere.
- Is that really something I have to do? - Yes.
You can watch me do it.
You and your dog have a special relationship.
But he needs a voice too.
(PHONE PINGS) - Hmm.
- APP: Food! Impressive.
How much time did you spend on Tempest, Charlie? - Not longer than I needed to.
- That's a shame.
If you had, you'd have seen the good in it.
I saw how a good woman died because she was sold lethal pills on it.
How many people have died because of the war on drugs? More than one Iris.
Still doesn't make it right.
No.
But it doesn't compare, not to the millions of families ripped apart or the communities broken all in the name of getting drugs off the street.
You think that Tempest's Way solves that? The lack of law and order on that site allowed a hit to be place on your head with relative ease.
The site wasn't always like that.
Ads for guns and hard drugs only started in the last little while.
Okay, well, however it happened, it's out of control now.
(EVA SCOFFS) Look, I I see that you believe in it.
Here's your chance.
You want to tell me why? My brother has depression.
His whole life.
Just when he thought he was getting better, he lost everything.
His job.
His friends.
And I was scared that I was going to lose him.
And we tried everything.
But microdosing psilocybin worked.
So you were a customer on the site before you started working for it.
Something like that.
I didn't know Iris as much more than a username and I am sorry that she died.
But when the world abandoned my brother, Tempest saved him.
Okay, I get that.
- But it's not going to stop you, is it? - No.
Oh! Okay.
Uh, they're kissing.
We should look away.
But I don't know.
I mean, we're supposed to be monitoring it.
That shouldn't be happening.
- Yeah.
- I mean, Jesse, - she's a witness.
- (PHONE CHIMING) Hang on.
It's Donovan.
Hey.
DONOVAN: I've made contact with Mercurius.
Oh, that's great.
Yeah, but now I'm locked out of the site.
That's not great.
Okay, let me check.
One second.
That's weird.
Yeah, the whole site's down.
EVA: Charlie.
I'm sorry.
I really didn't think (DRAMATIC MUSIC) This is a weird day all around.
(REX GROWLING) (REX BARKS) (REX WHINES) (REX BARKS) Grab Rex.
Rex, get her out of here! (EVA COUGHING) (CRACK) Ahhh.
Ughh! Uhh! Ahhh! Ahh! Uhhh! Ughhh! - (SIRENS IN BACKGROUND) - Aghhh! You're under arrest.
- How are you feeling? - Nausea's worse.
Everything's blurry.
SARAH: Must be a reaction to the smoke.
We should get you to the hospital.
I'm going to follow you in the car.
Rex, stay with Eva.
She still needs police protection.
Go on, pal.
(ENGINE STARTING) - Take care of her, pal.
- (REX BARKS) What did the intruder have to say when you cuffed him? He said that he saw the post on Tempest's Way.
That doesn't explain how he knew Eva was here.
Yeah.
Think somebody could have followed us from the station? - SARAH: No, we would have spotted a tail.
- Hey, guys.
No one was following us, it was Eva.
She must have been in a hurry if she didn't bother covering her tracks.
She logged in using your laptop to launch a DoS, a denialofservice attack on Tempest.
That gave away her location.
She said she was just programming Rex's toy.
That was obviously just a cover.
Why cyberattack Tempest now? A DoS attack could mean revenge on Mercurius.
Or I don't know, a way to disable the site - so that no one could see the hit? - If that was the plan, - then why didn't she just tell us? - No idea.
But Donovan made contact with Mercurius.
The answer could be there somewhere.
- I'm heading back there now.
- Yeah, I've got to catch an ambulance.
Okay.
JESSE: Hey.
I just logged in to Tempest.
When did it get back online? About ten minutes ago.
And Mercurius messaged me as soon as it did.
Sorry.
Had to combat a DoS attack by CoF.
Nuisance will be gone soon.
What does that mean, Jesse? In English this time? But the DoS attack was by Eva.
CoF isn't standard lingo.
Oh, no way.
(PHONE CHIMING) - Jesse.
- JESSE: We have a problem.
Eva isn't just a customer service rep.
- She's Tempest's Way's cofounder.
- What? She was lying to us, Charlie.
That's why she wouldn't give up Mercurius or any information to help us.
Because the website's hers too.
She doesn't want us to shut it down.
So why does her co-founder want her dead? CHARLIE: I'll ask her for you.
I just found the ambulance.
(REX WHINING) I know, pal.
She fooled me too.
Let's get you out of there.
Eva's on the run.
Charlie, you're on speaker phone.
The entire team is here.
CHARLIE: If she ran, I guess she's feeling better.
SARAH: Why escape police protection after an attempt on your life? She's facing a long prison term for founding that website.
CHARLIE: She was willing to go to jail for a lot less.
We need to figure out why she attacked her own website.
Well, a DoS attack is like a giant pause button.
It buys you time but it's not a permanent solution.
- Huh.
- DONOVAN: In my experience, there's only two reasons kingpins fight.
Turf and money.
I'd go with money.
Look at those commissions.
I don't know.
What are you thinking, Charlie? CHARLIE: Eva was moonlighting as a customer service rep helping people like Iris.
I don't think it's about getting rich for her.
No, no, no.
It is for Mercurius.
He told me that his revolution is worth a billion.
They're wrestling for control.
Mercurius wants to expand and get rich and Eva just wants to help people like her sick brother get access to the drugs that they need.
But that's if you believe her.
Huh.
Do me a favour.
Can you find the address of Finn Reed? - Who's he? - CHARLIE: Eva's brother.
She said he's the reason she got involved in the website in the first place.
SARAH: 1818 Glengowan's Way.
Keep us posted.
Wow wow.
Okay! Yes, I Wow, um We have to go.
I'll explain in the car.
I told you.
I haven't seen Eva.
- You're sure? - She hasn't been by in a while.
Maybe a few weeks? (REX BARKING) Don't open that.
There's just fishing rods and Good find, pal.
I'm guessing Rex just sniffed out Eva's gobag.
Let's see.
Passport.
Huh? Yeah.
Not seeing those fishing rods though.
Come on, Finn.
I don't want to charge you as an Accessory After the Fact.
Don't ask me to sell out my sister.
(REX WHINES) (REX BARKS) Hey.
Hey, big guy.
You like attention, hey, bud? Rex is sensitive to people under mental distress.
Yeah? Must have been all over Eva.
He was.
Because you're not the only one that's sick.
- Eva is too.
- Yeah.
That's why she founded Tempest.
SARAH: So you said a DoS attack makes a website more vulnerable - to data leaks, yeah? - Yes.
Yes, that's how I found the server.
Without Eva or Mercurius catching you? Well, I mean, the site's code is good.
It's not impenetrable.
- Some of it leaked after Eva's DoS attack.
- (PHONE CHIMING) So I found the IP address.
Led to here.
That's Charlie.
- Hey.
- CHARLIE: Hey, Sarah.
Eva's brother Finn just told me that Eva's at the Terra Nova Data Centre.
Yeah, we're here too.
Jesse tracked the server.
We're about to go inside.
Eva's after the server.
Okay.
If she's here, we'll find her.
(DOG GROWLING) Oh.
Maybe I spoke too soon.
Anybody got any bright ideas? (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) Well, we had to have learned something about dogs working with Rex all these years.
Yeah, well, Rex is not the snarling type.
Okay.
Rex does love a good scratch behind the ears.
- Maybe if we - (DOG GROWLS AND BARKS) No no no no.
I take that back.
Charlie said that Rex likes jazz.
Maybe I can pull up something on my phone.
Wait, guys.
Yes.
It's food.
It's always food.
Okay.
Um (DOG SNARLING) - Oh boy.
- Here you go.
(DOG BARKS) Come on.
Come here.
- (REX SNIFFING) - Track it.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) (REX SNIFFING) (REX BARKS) JESSE: Each server is attached to a specific IP.
So once we match the address I have to the server - Game over? - JESSE: Exactly.
Cadence.
Wait, that's him! Mercurius! Stop! Police! JESSE: I'll take that.
- It's empty.
- MERCURIUS: Yeah.
We're all too late.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC) (REX SNIFFING) (EVA EXHALES) You're not one for goodbyes are you? Say, if you and I met in a bar somewhere, some other time, how would that go, Charlie? I'd let you buy me a drink.
I bet you would.
I talked to Finn.
He's not the only one who needs psilocybin.
Why didn't you tell me? I had to save something for the next time we're locked in a house together.
I didn't lie to you, Charlie.
Finn did lose everything.
What about you? I'm myself again.
The world isn't just a giant fog.
I won't let you shut Tempest down.
That site is too important to too many people.
It has to stay online.
I can regulate it.
No more diet pills.
- No more weapons.
- Why wasn't it regulated from the start? Max! Mercurius! We had rules when we started.
But once the money started coming in, nothing else seemed to matter to him.
Is the server in your bag? It's safest with me.
I'm not just here for the server, Eva.
You know I've got to take you in too.
You think they'll let me microdose in prison, Charlie? Because I don't.
We'll figure something out.
According to what's best for me? Or according to what your laws allow? We'll figure it out.
The drop from here's only about a 100 feet.
A human can survive a free fall from 186.
A dog though can't.
If I jump, and you follow, will Rex know to stay back? (REX WHINES) Tell them you never found me.
Damn.
For a second there I thought maybe.
- (GUNSHOT) - (REX WHINES) Ughh! (REX GROWLS) (COCKING GUN) SJPD! Drop your weapon! Rex! Don't let her get away! EVA: Rex! Ughh! Here, take it! - Goodbye Rex.
- (REX GROWLS) (REX BARKS) - (REX WHINES) - Eva? Eva! (REX WHINING) Rex, track the shooter.
Go on! (DRAMATIC MUSIC) DONOVAN: Come on.
- I was creating a new world order.
- Right, get in the car.
You're going to jail for a long time, Max.
Charlie.
I'm glad you and Rex are all right.
- (REX MOANS) - SARAH: At least you were there to make sure that the shooter didn't get away.
- Hmm.
- SARAH: Yeah.
- CHARLIE: Hey, Jesse.
- Yeah.
- Here's the server.
- Ah, thank you.
Yeah, we'll get the evidence we need off of this and shut down Tempest's Way for good, huh? So I called in a dive team, Charlie.
Yeah, I probably should have stayed with her.
DONOVAN: Hey.
There's nothing you or any of us could have done.
Okay? Jesse, I think I'm going to ride with you.
JESSE: Sure.
Trust my driving? I trust my driving.
You want me to ride with you and Rex? (SOFT GUITAR) (REX BARKS) (CHARLIE CHUCKLES) Yeah.
Let's go, pal.
TOY: Food! - (REX BARKS) - Oh.
No more infomercials for us, pal.
(REX BARKS) Here you go.
(REX SNIFFING) EVA'S VOICE: How about that drink some time, Charlie? EVA'S VOICE: How about that drink some time, Charlie? (REX BARKS) Next time on Hudson & Rex Luka! It is good to see you come as advertised, son! - (CHEERING) - We all know this play.
Alcohol and testosterone do not mix.
Especially when you add jealousy and the loss of 50 grand.
The team is devastated by this unfortunate accident and that is what it is, - an accident.
- (REX BARKS) You know Thomas Ming? Enough to know he had nothing to do with Luka's murder.
Well, I never said it was a murder.
Looking for this? (REX BARKING)
