Nashville s04e07 Episode Script
Can't Get Used to Losing You
- Previously on "Nashville" - I'm a little confused.
- What is this? - Fun.
Jeff: If I can just clean up this Juliette thing, I have a real shot at being the C.
E.
O.
of Luke's new company.
Deacon: I've been thinking about that bar of yours.
I want to buy in.
You really not gonna invite me in? There are lines I don't cross when it comes to clients.
Fair enough.
You're fired.
Move in with me.
Really? [Chuckling.]
Yeah.
What's wrong with Juliette? Nothing.
Why? She's the mother of my child, and she needs help.
The last time I saw her, she was in her room, and she was fine.
Juliette.
Don't do this.
No! - [Gasps.]
- [Gasps.]
[Knock on door.]
Man: Miss Barnes? Somebody get that.
[Knock on door.]
Juliette Barnes? Anybody?! [Groans.]
[Knock on door.]
- [Sighs.]
- Miss Barnes? Hello? [Knock on door.]
Hello? Miss Barnes? [Knock on door.]
[Sighs.]
Juliette Barnes? If this is about the crazed fan, contact my manager about it.
He's dealing with it.
He's who we're here to talk about.
Whatever.
Just make it quick.
I got a plane to catch.
Miss Barnes.
Mr.
Fordham died last night.
He's dead? Detective: [Echoing.]
Miss Grant? Has Mr.
Fordham ever tried anything like this before? [Normal voice.]
Miss Grant? Did you hear what I just said? Has Mr.
Fordham ever done anything like this before? I don't know what you mean.
We know he was fired earlier this year.
We also know he's in a lot of debt.
Wait, are you are you saying you don't think that this was an accident? No.
We were moving in together.
We we were making plans for the future.
I understand.
Sometimes people mask depression with false hope.
[Sighs.]
Gabriella: You fired me.
Luke: Mm.
And I'd love to hire you back.
I'm just not sure I'm ready to give this up.
[Chuckles.]
You want my advice? As a courtesy, since I'm no longer on the payroll.
Mm-hmm.
Let's not make too big a deal of this, okay? I mean, it was sex, and it was good Whoa.
Wait a second.
First of all, it was great.
- And fine.
- [Laughs.]
You can have your job back in an hour.
[Knock on door.]
Mm.
Mm.
You need to get back to your son.
And I need to put out a press release naming Jeff as C.
E.
O.
All right, all right.
Just tell me that's room service with some coffee.
It's the police.
- All right, keep them closed now.
- They're closed.
- All right.
They better.
- [Laughs.]
- Got your hands.
- Okay.
All right, don't look.
Don't look.
I'm right here.
Okay.
All right, you stay there.
Stay there.
All right, go ahead look.
A bar? Your surprise is a bar? It's not a bar.
It's my bar.
As of this morning, I am part owner in what is soon to be the best new venue in Nashville, baby.
Welcome to the Beverly.
You sure you want to do this? I don't need it anymore.
[Sighs.]
It's time to let go.
His girlfriend said he spent most of yesterday with you.
Was he acting out of character at all, or He was being his usual jackass self.
Did your manager have any reason to think his job was at risk? You can keep asking me these questions.
I'm still gonna tell you the same answers.
The last time I saw Jeff, he told me to stay in this room.
And I did all night long.
We'll circle back with you if we need anything else.
Thanks for your time.
Oh, and, uh I'm sorry for your loss.
Detective: We've gone through all his belongings, so feel free to take them.
Who is this? A guest of your brother's.
You must be Kate.
I'm Layla Gran.
I'm Jeff's girlfriend.
I'm sure.
Whom do I speak to about getting the body back to New York for burial? That would be the medical examiner's office.
I'll get you a number.
If you need help with funeral arrangements or anything, I Look, I don't know who or what you were to Jeff, but my brother never mentioned your name.
As far as the service, it will be for family only.
Now, please vacate the room.
I need to collect my brother's things.
Colt! [Door opens.]
- Where were you? - You been drinking? - Dad - Damn it, Colt! What the hell's wrong with you? You know how much trouble you'd get in? Not only are you underage - Dad! - What?! [Breathing shakily.]
I saw Jeff Fordham fall off the roof last night.
What? Juliette was out there like she was going to jump, and then Jeff p-pulled her back, and then he just went over.
[Sniffles.]
And I went to find you, and you weren't there.
Where were you?! I-I went to go find you, and you weren't there.
I'm here.
I'm here.
[Sobs.]
I got you.
Hey, stranger.
Oh my God.
[Chuckles.]
I did not think that you could be any more beautiful.
[Chuckles.]
- Mm.
- I love it.
- Thank you.
- [Chuckles.]
- Welcome home.
- It's so good to be home.
But don't get used to it.
I, um I've decided I'm gonna go out on tour.
U-uh Okay.
Y-you think that you're ready for that? I actually can't wait to get back out onstage.
It'll be good.
Well, hey, if you're excited, then I'm excited for you.
Let's go celebrate right now, in fact uh, for lunch.
I don't have patients for a while.
I can't.
Uh, I have rehearsal all day.
We've got so much to do before we leave in a week.
- Um - Okay.
I could do dinner, though.
Dinner's good.
Good.
Come on, come on.
See that wall right there? That thing's coming down.
That's all the way gone.
Then we're gonna have a bigger stage, bigger sound system.
And a lot more seating.
[Chuckles.]
Come on in here.
Frankie Gray.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you finally.
You're going into business with your sponsor? Is that a thing? No, that is not a thing, which is why I'm getting me a new sponsor.
We've agreed to keep our boundaries clean so we can get this place turned around.
You're damn right.
Been kind of tough keeping up with all the new hipster joints popping up, but that's all about to change thanks to Deacon.
Hey, Frank, can you help me real quick? I want to measure this thing, see how high this is.
I'll just be a second, sweetie.
Okay.
- [Indistinct talking.]
- All right.
[Cellphone ringing.]
Hey, honey.
How you doing? Layla: [Voice breaking.]
I'm sorry.
I just I don't know who else to call.
Uh [sniffles.]
Jeff's Jeff's dead.
What?! How? What happened? I don't know.
I don't know exactly.
Sweetheart, I'm so sorry.
W-what can I do? I just want to get out of here, Ray.
I want to come home.
But there aren't any planes.
Well I-I'll call Luke, and and I'm sure you can come back with him.
Okay.
I'm I'm here for you.
Whatever you need, you you call me, okay? Okay.
Yeah, all right.
Thanks.
Bye.
What's going on? Everything okay? Jeff Fordham is dead.
Thought you were writing at Kevin's all day.
Change of plans.
[Sighs.]
[Plate clanks.]
You want to talk about it? No.
What do you got going on there? [Sighs.]
Just looking for an apartment.
W-why are you doing that? Come on.
The baby and I can't stay here forever.
This was always supposed to be temporary until we either moved back in with Juliette or we didn't, and we're not, so So it's all over, just like that.
- [Cellphone chimes.]
- You sure you don't want to talk? Whoa.
Jeff Fordham's dead.
What? How? I don't know.
That's all Layla texted me.
I'm gonna I'm gonna call her.
Um, you gonna call Juliette? No.
Moving on means moving on.
Authorities have identified him as Jeff Fordham, manager of singer Juliette Barnes, who's in Atlanta with Luke Wheeler's "Never Look Back" tour.
Police tell us hours before his death, Fordham attended a party [TV mutes.]
I guess I better call that detective.
I wouldn't.
We need to talk to Juliette first, get our stories straight.
You're telling me to obstruct justice? No.
I'm asking you to wait and see if justice unfolds without the world finding out that your underage son was drunk - when he saw an accident.
- [Sighs.]
- I wasn't drinking that much.
- You know what, Colt? Why don't you go grab a shower, and Gabriella and me, we'll figure this out.
Go on.
I've already received calls from investors who want to back out because you threw a party where someone died.
"Someone"? Jeff was my friend, okay? I'm sorry.
But it's my job to make sure you understand how bad press like this is while launching a multi-million-dollar business venture.
Okay.
I know.
You're right.
And I'd like to protect my son.
So, what the hell do we do? Well, first of all, we need to keep Colt quiet for his sake.
I'll stay here and do damage control with the guests from last night.
But from now on, anyone associated with you or your label needs to refrain from commenting on Jeff's death.
What the hell is she doing? [Reporters shouting.]
[Camera shutters clicking.]
Reporter: Juliette, how do you feel? My manager just committed suicide.
How do you think I feel? Anchorwoman: We'll have more as this story continues to develop, but that was Juliette Barnes confirming that the death of her manager, Jeff Fordham, - was not an accident.
- [Exhales sharply.]
You guys got the wrong jet.
We need to talk about what you said to that reporter.
Oh, do we? You're his image consultant, not mine.
She's also a consultant for my label, and you're on it.
Look, we're all obviously pretty upset about what happened, but it's in all of our best interests not to go spouting off theories to the press.
What I told them was what the cops told me.
Why the hell would I know what happened to Jeff? Juliette, someone saw you on the roof with him.
Well, then, someone needs to get their eyes checked, 'cause I was in my room the entire night.
Anything else? Just avoid talking to the media if you can.
You know what I'd like to stop talking altogether, if people would let me.
Juliette, I know this has to be incredibly tough on you, and if you're not up to performing tomorrow night I've never missed a show.
Not gonna start now.
Noel: Well, if you can't do it, you can't do it.
Thanks anyway.
I thought Scarlett deciding to tour would make you less stressed, not more.
That's the trouble with making last-minute decisions.
It makes it really difficult to lock everybody in.
And I can't find a sound engineer to save my life.
You know anybody? Well, I know somebody who's just coming off Juliette Barnes' tour.
Probably out of our budget unless they want to do you a favor.
Is this a friend of yours? Yeah, friend.
A good friend.
Find out if they're interested.
[Chuckling.]
Wow.
You look Completely different.
We just spent a fortune on merch.
Feel free to call locks of love and tell them you need my hair more than a sick child does.
Y'all ready to rehearse? Hey, Talia.
It's Colt.
Um, Maddie's grounded, and she doesn't have her phone, so can you give her a message at school? Just tell her I'm sorry I didn't call her back.
It's a long story.
Um Yeah, and just just tell her I miss her.
Um, all right, thanks.
I'll talk to you soon.
[Clears throat.]
You know not saying anything to anyone includes your girlfriend, right? What about Jeff's girlfriend? You gonna tell her? [Clears throat.]
Listen, I was, uh, thinking about having a tribute tomorrow night for Jeff before my show, and you should come by [voice breaking.]
Doesn't make any sense.
Sorry? You saw us last night.
We were happy.
He was happy.
Yeah.
How could this happen? [Sobbing.]
Okay.
Rayna: I'm really worried about Layla.
- You talk to her again today? - Oh, yeah.
She called me right before they took off, said she's just gonna come home and crawl into bed.
She is a mess.
You know, we might want to think about fast-tracking Markus' album to fill her release date.
Probably gonna take her a while to recover from this loss.
Yeah.
Hey, Buck, did you ever know a guy named Frankie Gray? There's a throwback.
Yeah, I scouted him for capitol like a million years ago.
Did you ever sign him or anything? No.
I don't think anybody did.
Um, really talented guy, really heavy drinker.
Got sober later and bought a bar, if you can believe that.
I guess that's one way of holding on to your audience.
Yeah.
Well, Deacon just bought into that bar.
Frankie: it was so easy Oh.
When I was younger It didn't take much to feed the hunger [Indistinct conversations.]
Somewhere along, you lose the innocence No idea where it might'a went You spend your whole life lookin' for somethin' I'm holding on Holding on It's hard to admit when you can't control Holding on to what I can't hold [Scattered applause.]
Thank you.
[Exhales.]
Hey, man.
That's a great set.
I'm not sure they know that.
Yeah, well, don't worry about them.
We're gonna have this place full of people that are here for the music, all right? Not that bottom-shelf booze you're serving over there.
[Chuckles.]
I'll start serving better stuff when we start bringing some people in here willing to pay for it.
All right, that's a deal.
Speaking of which, I think we need to get them in here earlier.
All right, I'm thinking about a happy hour with music.
I can even try one out tomorrow.
I like it.
All right.
- Hey, let me ask you something.
- Mm-hmm.
You didn't think it'd be a good idea to run all this by your old lady first? [Car alarm chirps.]
[Dog barking in distance.]
Erin: Hey.
I got your message.
What what are you doing here? What do you mean? I was in the neighborhood, and you called.
To tell you about the the job running sound for the tour, yeah.
Oh.
You mean there really is one.
A job? [Chuckles.]
Yeah.
Why why wouldn't there be? Because you've used that line before.
[Both chuckle.]
That's cool.
I need the work.
Well, I mean, it's not a done deal yet.
You'd have to meet my bandmate, and she'd have to approve.
Okay.
Fine.
Just let me know when.
So Should I go? Since this was just a business thing? [Indistinct conversations.]
[Chuckling.]
I'm so sorry.
We got stuck between the transition to two songs, and it just took forever.
Well, you're here now, so - To Scarlett.
- Oh.
May the exes' future be as bright as your smile.
[Chuckles.]
Thank you.
[Cellphone chimes.]
[Groans.]
Oh, good.
Gunnar's sound person can meet us tomorrow.
Excellent.
- [Cellphone clicking, bloops.]
- Are y'all ready to order? Uh, she hasn't had a chance to look at the menu.
- [Cellphone chirps.]
- Could we just have one more minute? [Sighs.]
Sorry.
Where were we? Well, why don't you look at the menu, - and then we'll - Oh.
[Cellphone chimes.]
- [Chuckling.]
Wow.
- I have to answer this.
I'm sorry.
I mean, man, if it's this hard to get your attention now, what's it gonna be like while you're on the road, huh? - [Cellphone chimes.]
- I'm just gonna turn it off.
- [Cellphone chimes, clicks.]
- I'm not [sighs.]
Noel just said a bunch of paperwork had been sent through that has to be signed and sent immediately.
All right, you know what? Let's, um, place a to-go order, and then we can just go home.
Uh, waiter.
[Door closes.]
Will: What's all this? [Breathing shakily.]
He wanted me to live with him.
He called the movers for me.
Isn't that thoughtful? Look, what Jeff did wasn't rational.
You and I both know - when someone's feeling that - No! Look, I don't think he's been feeling that way, okay? I've been thinking a lot about it, and he just [Voice breaking.]
He wouldn't have left me.
- Layla - Just stop, okay? Look, it doesn't matter.
Whatever happened, he's still gone.
[Sighs.]
Do you think that Kevin will mind if you stay tonight? Uh, that it won't be a problem.
Want to stop anywhere on the way home? You know what? I think I'm just gonna stay in a hotel.
I'm real sorry about Mr.
Fordham.
I didn't get a chance to know him well.
Were you close? What is wrong with you?! No, not really.
I'm sorry I bought a bar without telling you.
[Scoffs.]
Sprung that one on you, huh? A little bit, yeah.
[Chuckles.]
We really haven't had a chance to talk, though, since everything.
I just want to make sure you're okay.
You're grieving, you know.
But this is helping.
I wish you could've seen this place in Natchez.
Beverly was like [Chuckles.]
a star there.
I want that for her here.
Yeah, I get it.
[Smooches.]
I got that prescription for you.
Thanks.
Just, um Just leave it on the table again.
Am I taking you to see Avery and Cadence before the concert? No, just pick me up for sound check.
Okay.
[Door opens.]
[Door closes.]
It comes with parking? Two spots and a storage unit.
How's the park up the block? It's great they just redid the playground last year and put in one of those splash zones, which the kids love.
Yes, they do.
Don't they? - [Laughs.]
- [Giggles.]
Gosh, you look just like your mama.
I'm sorry I totally recognized you because I'm a huge Juliette Barnes fan.
[Sighs.]
Is she meeting you here? No.
No, she's, uh She's pretty unavailable.
Right, with the concert tonight and all.
So, are you two renting this for grandparents? 'Cause I can show you an A.
D.
A.
unit.
No, thanks.
Actually, I'm running late for another appointment.
Well, let me know if you have any questions, and please tell your wife we'd love to see her around here.
Okay.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, I thought I'd get this started for you.
Did I overstep? I just thought it'd be best if, um Everything was back the way it was? No, it was really nice of you.
You must've been up all night doing this.
I needed the distraction.
[Clears throat.]
How you feeling? [Voice breaking.]
Lost.
[Knock on door.]
- Hey.
- Hey, Rayna.
Nice to see you.
[Sniffles.]
Well, Layla, I should I should get going.
Thank you.
Tell Kevin thanks for me, too.
Yeah.
I will.
Bye.
[Sighs.]
It's just awful.
I'm so sorr No, you know, I know that you hated Jeff.
You don't Listen, none of that matters.
Only thing I care about is you and how I can support you through this.
His family won't even acknowledge that I exist.
They won't let me into his house.
I don't have anything of his.
They won't even tell me where he's gonna be buried.
It's like I'm not even allowed to grieve him, you know? You played such an important role in his life.
And that deserves to be acknowledged.
So, you must've been on the bigger, higher-end tours? Yeah, I started as a runner, and I was lucky enough to be mentored by some great sound guys.
And what they always told me was that even in a stadium, it all comes down to monitors and house.
Yeah, well, it's gonna be pretty much the exact opposite on this tour small venues, no perks.
Trust me, pre-show Sushi does not make up for what some of the stars like to put their crews through.
Oh, I toured with Juliette, too.
[Chuckles.]
And you don't have to worry about me and Gunnar.
I mean, we're super-chill.
Oh.
Okay, I-I should go.
Thank you for taking the time to meet me.
It was very nice to meet you.
Just so you know, she's not my girlfriend.
It's just casual.
Oh, I don't care if it's casual or you're planning a wedding.
I care about the tour, and if I'm gonna be hitting the road with somebody for 50 dates, I want to know that they're taking it as seriously as I am.
Wait you don't think I'm taking all this seriously? Scarlett, this has been my dream longer than it's been yours.
I know what an opportunity this is.
If you don't want to mess it up for both of us, you make sure you can concentrate on the music while Erin is around.
[Scoffs.]
Colt! Car's here.
Let's go.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna sit this one out.
I don't want an argument.
And I don't want to watch you lie to your fans like you did to Layla.
I didn't lie to her.
You didn't tell her the truth.
Son, we already talked about this.
Until we know what happened We know exactly what happened! I saw it! Yeah, after you'd had a hell of a lot to drink! And for the record, Juliette says she wasn't there.
So you're gonna take her word over mine? Why why do you even want me to go to this stupid concert if you don't believe me? 'Cause you're not staying here alone.
So you don't believe me and you don't trust me? You getting drunk doesn't give me much reason to! So unless you want to lose your phone, your driving privileges, and any chance of seeing the outside of this house until you're 18, get in the damn car! - Hey.
- Hey.
I thought you were gonna be too busy to come watch me play.
I don't think I can come tonight, babe.
Well, that's all right.
I mean, plenty of other nights.
[Chuckles.]
You know I-I don't think I'm gonna be able to go into that bar.
What are you talking about? Deacon, you're an alcoholic, and you've been fighting this disease your whole life.
Baby, listen to me.
My sister died giving me her liver.
Do you honestly think I'm ever gonna drink another drop again? - Because I am not, okay? - You know that's not the way it works.
It's one day at a time.
Can't you just have a little bit of faith in me here that I know what I'm doing, Rayna? Of course I have faith in you.
This is me doing something to honor Beverly, and right now, there's a bar with her name on it, and it's full of people just waiting for me to show up and to play, so whatever we do, I got to go right now.
[Sighs.]
You know what? I'm gonna start with the red one.
I'm sick of all this depressing black.
Hey.
I didn't expect to see you here.
Yeah, Luke told me that there was a tribute before the show for Jeff, so I just figured I'd come for it.
You know, be with other people who feel as lost.
Tell me about it.
I got to get a new manager.
[Scoffs softly.]
I'm sorry.
I forgot you two had a little something going on.
Are you okay? No.
Um Look, I was just wondering if you could do me a favor and reach out to Jeff's family for me.
I want to find out if I can attend his funeral.
You need me to do that? Why? You were his biggest client.
I mean, you're the big star.
They'd have to know who you were to him.
[Door opens.]
They won't acknowledge me.
Okay, I'm gonna do you a favor And not contact his family, because it's not gonna do you any good.
Okay, Jeff's gone, he's not coming back, and the best way for you to get over him is to just pretend that the two of you never happened.
[Sighs.]
What? [Door closes.]
That was great advice.
That's pretty.
Oh.
Noel had the stylist send over a few things for the tour.
[Sighs.]
What are those? An apology.
For being overly sensitive about the tour last night.
- You don't have to say anything about that.
- I do.
I do.
Because I really want to make this work.
I took a look at both of our schedules, and if we get really creative with my frequent flyer miles, the longest that we'll have to go without seeing each other is 10 days.
We are gonna crush long distance.
Yeah.
[Laughs.]
While I'm still here, you want to try dinner again tonight? - I would love that.
- [Chuckles.]
So, Scarlett cut her hair and turned into a crazy person.
What? And to accuse me of not caring about this tour? I mean Why would she say something like that? Well, because she thinks that I'll get distracted if Erin runs sound for us.
Erin, your "one-night stand who you've just spent the last three nights with" Erin? Yeah.
But it's it's casual.
Oh.
I think we've established that you don't do casual.
First Scarlett, then Zoey.
I mean, why on earth would you bring your girlfriend on the road in a professional capacity? Because we need a sound engineer, and she is not my girlfriend.
Why why is everybody making this such a big deal? Because you are.
Gunnar, you come slamming in here like the worst thing in the world just happened to you.
Well, guess what.
It hasn't.
It's not like your boyfriend just jumped off a building or your wife abandoned you and your child or the guy you blew up your whole life for just dumped you.
What? You and Kevin broke up? No, I just I just saw you guys high-fiving over your co-write getting cut by Luke Wheeler.
Well [Sniffles.]
Before you go pulling somebody into every part of your life, just think a little bit about how it's gonna feel when it's over.
[Country music playing, indistinct conversations.]
I don't know how in the hell you did it.
Been a long time since we had this many people in here.
- Maybe never.
- Yeah, well, I just asked some friends to tweet about it, you know? We got to keep up with the times, brother.
We can't fall behind.
Hey, you want me to put Rayna down here or you want me to put her in the back? No, she ain't coming.
Hey, partner.
If you want to back out of this I don't want to back out, all right? Let's do this thing.
Come on, now.
Hey, you guys ready up here? Man: Yeah.
Let's do it.
Everybody, how y'all doing tonight? [Cheers and applause.]
Thank you for coming out.
For those of you that don't know, I am the part owner in this place, along with my friend Frankie right there.
Give Frankie a big hand, if you will.
- [Cheers and applause.]
- I also want you to know that this place is gonna be known as the Beverly.
Tell all your friends in a city full of great music venues, this is gonna be one of the best.
- [Applause.]
- If it's all right with you, I'd like to christen this place with a song of my own.
["Like New" plays.]
Gonna take about a million midnights And a good, long whiskey rain It's gonna take a hurricane sky so blue And I'll be just like new [Audience cheering.]
When the sun stops shinin' When the liars quit lyin' When I finally face the truth I'll be pushin' up roses When I start gettin' over you And I'll be just like new Ooh ooh ooooh [Door opens.]
Oh, please come right in.
From Gabriella your speech for the tribute.
[Sighing.]
Oh.
"Jeff Fordham was more than just my manager.
He was a dear friend and" - [Scoffs.]
God help me.
- [Bottle clinks.]
You know what? Try and make it sound sincere.
And if you're gonna wear that for the tribute, you might want to think about covering up, considering the occasion.
That was what to do and what to say.
You gonna tell me what to think and feel next? - Listen - Why did you lie to my dad? - Damn it, Colt.
- Excuse me.
Why does everyone think that they can just - barge into my dressing room? - I saw you on the roof with Jeff! - Out now! - I saw you! Get out! You memorize the damn speech and save the booze for after the show! [Door slams.]
Avery: I can't have her grow up thinking that she can depend on her mother when we both know that she can't.
[Horn honks.]
[Indistinct voices.]
[Breathing shakily.]
Sorry about you and Kevin.
Gunnar's got a big mouth.
[Sighs.]
Why didn't you tell me? - [Cadence coughs on monitor.]
- Well, I don't know.
Part of me felt like if I if I didn't say it out loud, maybe Maybe it wouldn't be true.
Yeah, I wish.
Can I ask you something? How is it you're handling everything so well? I'm raising my daughter alone, you know? There's not a lot of time to be sad or upset.
I guess you have to postpone it or, uh, push it all out of your mind you know, all the hurt.
[Sighs.]
I thought you two were a great couple.
Thought you were gonna make it.
Right back at ya.
You know what the hardest part is? It's just letting go of forever.
'Cause that's what I thought when we got married.
I thought we'd be together for the rest of our lives.
It's what my parents have.
It's what I always wanted.
It's what I-I believed.
It's just not gonna happen.
And I'm sitting here with this ring still on my finger just for appearances.
[Cadence crying.]
[Sniffles, exhales sharply.]
[Sighs.]
I got her.
[Sighs.]
[Sniffles.]
You, uh you just take your time.
[Crying continues.]
[Sobbing.]
- I know it's not really your job.
- Anything you assign me is my job.
I don't need a babysitter.
The fact you shot off your mouth proves otherwise! Straight home! No phone, no computers, - no devices, no leaving your sight.
- You got it.
- [Door opens.]
- This is such B.
S.
! Not another word! Tribute's up, boss.
Time to take the stage.
Will: I'll be there when you learn to crawl And when you're walking like a wind-up doll Sweet girl of mine I'll be with you on your first day of school And in the summer, when you pee in the pool Sweet Sweet Girl of mine Sleep tonight Till the morning light morning light Sleep tonight sleep tonight It's gonna be be All right [Sighs.]
I'm, uh, sorry I lost it before.
Oh, don't be.
Even when things end for the right reasons, it doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
[Chuckles.]
Especially if you're still in love with that person.
We're gonna get through this.
Yeah, we are.
[Clears throat.]
Hey, I was thinking, um Gunnar's gonna be on tour.
[Sighs.]
It'd be awful quiet around here if you and Cadence leave, too.
Are you saying we should stay? I'm saying you need help with her, and I could use a friend.
Bucky: I have calls in to all those guys, and, really, it's just logistics, so we can deal with all that when we get a little bit closer.
Um, we're all set with pine studios, so you and Markus can get in there and record whenever you're ready.
Are you okay? Um, yeah.
I'm sorry.
I'm just I'm just really upset about this bar and Deacon, and I mean, you remember how he was.
Yeah.
I do.
The idea of him in a bar is a nightmare to me.
I also know how he is now, and I know how the two of you are together.
Well, yeah.
I mean, we've come so far.
I don't want to screw that up.
I think if there's two people that can deal with something like this, it's you and Deacon.
I assume we are meeting here so you can buy me a "I got the job" drink? - [Chuckles.]
- [Giggles.]
Not exactly.
It's because I told Scarlett about us, right? I mean, you're exes.
You're the exes.
It's not her decision.
It's mine.
You know, I'm just not that good when it comes to dating people I work with, or or working with people I'm dating.
Gunnar, we're not dating.
You may have a problem, but I don't.
Work is work.
Play is play.
[Chuckles.]
I promise I won't let it get messy.
It takes a lot of people to put together a tour like this.
You don't know most of them, 'cause they work behind the scenes, but we spend so much time away from our own families that we become one on the road.
And a few nights ago We lost a member of this family.
[Camera clicks.]
Tonight, we want to remember my manager, Jeff Fordham.
He'll be missed.
- [Applause.]
- Thank you.
[Scoffs.]
Jeff did practically everything for you.
That's all you can say out there? He did it because he was paid.
What do you want me to tell them the truth? The truth is, Jeff Fordham didn't give a crap about me.
That sound better? [Band playing.]
[Audience chanting "Juliette!".]
Excuse me.
I have a concert.
[Chanting continues.]
Jeff: Juliette? Don't do this.
Please.
No! [Grunts.]
[Screams.]
[Chanting continues.]
- [Audience chanting "Juliette!".]
- She's locked in her dressing room.
Won't come out, won't let anyone in.
Then I guess we're scrapping her set.
I'll extend mine.
How fast can you change the stage over? Audience is gonna start throwing cups before then.
I can do an acoustic set.
I just need to borrow a guitar.
Layla, I don't think you're in the right frame of mind.
Luke, that wasn't a tribute.
There's something I need to say.
Come on.
[Chanting continues.]
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
Uh, listen, I I know, uh, y'all are expecting Juliette, but as you can imagine, uh It's a very emotional night for her.
So we're gonna have another artist come out here and sing for you tonight.
[Audience boos.]
Some of y'all might already know this young lady.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thanks, Luke.
My name is Layla Gran.
And Jeff Fordham was my manager, as well.
But he was so much more than that to me.
[Voice breaking.]
He was my heart, he was my compass he was my love.
And I was his.
["Too Far From You" plays.]
Some nights, I don't sleep at all I lie awake with my eyes closed Some days, I'm inside a cloud So tired, I just float around And I'm lost again I'm lost Too far from you [Cellphone buzzing.]
I thought time would Go ahead.
Fade your face Was sure that Hi.
Hey.
Uh, look, I thought about everything you said, and I really think I can make it work with Erin on the road.
felt so deep, it's bronzed Thanks.
They're Gunnar's.
what's going on And I'm lost again I'm lost Too far from you All right, after "drink this beer," we'll add the Johnny cash medley we worked up for the little rock show in '03.
[Breathing shakily.]
I need help.
All this time, I still can't shake [Sobbing.]
I was so wasted.
I was so wasted, I didn't remember being there.
But I was there.
I tried to kill myself.
Jeff died saving me.
And I'm lost again I'm lost Too far from you [Cheers and applause.]
That's what you call some business right here.
Vibe's a little different.
[Chuckling.]
Well, yeah.
Don't see anybody I know.
What are you talking about, man? There's Barbara Breegle, Pat Young.
Rayna Jaymes.
Man: Hey, Rayna.
Hey.
Hi.
Hi.
Come here.
I know, baby it scares you.
I get that.
Scares the hell out of me.
But I've never let a little fear get in my way, and nothing's ever gonna keep me away from you.
If this is what you want I'm gonna do everything I can to support you.
Thanks, Andre.
Good luck.
Yeah.
Juliette told me what happened.
[Sighs.]
I'm so sorry I doubted you, Colt.
This mean you're gonna tell Layla? Well, can I tell Maddie? What about the cops? We should let them know.
Uh, Juliette's had a hard enough road as it is.
She doesn't need it splashed across headlines.
Better for her if it stays private.
Better for her or for your brand? Welcome to Horizons.
I called ahead for Juliette Barnes? Yes.
Are you ready? No.
No.
