1 Previously on "S.
W.
A.
T" Why are you two here so early? Wanted to get an extra workout in case Hicks throws another fitness test into the TLI competition.
Ah, you're really going all in? Just hoping there's still time to catch up to Street.
I think I was hit, too.
WENDY: I learned that you personally lobbied for Erika to fill in on 20-Squad the day that she got killed.
I can't sign off on you until you can process this situation.
You didn't say a word the whole drive in.
I'm not feeling very talkative.
You've been tossing in your sleep.
Normally that means you're nervous about something.
Look, don't worry about me.
Okay.
I love you.
I love you, too.
Chris, if you took that bullet and you went down and I lost you, I wouldn't have recovered.
I was on my way home to Molly when I came here instead.
But being with her feels wrong.
Stop.
'Cause all I think about is being with you.
Leave.
(MUFFLED SCREAMING) You don't need to do this.
(GUNSHOTS) Take a look.
Tell me what you think.
(GUNSHOTS) Decent shot, but not SWAT level.
Well, she's not here to be Annie Oakley.
She's here as a tactical emergency medical support.
A TEMS officer? With us? Is it official? Police commission approved an evaluation period.
Medically specialized officer to join SWA as a new life-saving component.
So, she's an experiment.
SWAT teams in other cities have already seen positive results.
We're lucky to get a TEMS as qualified as Fowler.
I want to start her off on your team.
Sir, I understand the value of adding this new element, but we just lost an officer.
The wrong addition at the wrong time could cripple this team.
We shouldn't be her tryout.
Adding her gives us zero wait time, for treatment in the field.
And, besides, your team's exactly where we should be trying her out.
It'll give everyone something new to focus on.
Instead of Erika dying? If this position had already been implemented, Erika Rogers might still be alive.
I'm sure you'll figure out how to make it work.
Yes, sir.
FOWLER: Sergeant Harrelson? Officer Nora Fowler, right? - Nice to officially meet you.
- You as well.
Head to the armory, get your gear checked out.
Additional body armor is also available.
We'll meet right after for pre-shift briefing.
Already done both, sir.
Really? Sidearm and body armor are good to go.
How ready are you to ride along with my team? - 100%, sir.
- And knowing that it may be temporary, why'd you sign up for this? I've seen combat as an Army medic.
I was an EMT for LAFD, finished first in my class in mountain rescue, in deep water So this is another notch on your resume, then? No.
I'm looking to save lives, and I'm told that's what SWAT does, too.
Our shift's starting.
Molly, hey.
I, uh, thought I saw your car outside.
Yeah, I'll be in and out all day, taking care of a couple work things.
How are you? I haven't heard much from you the last few days.
I know.
We need to talk.
- Listen - Jim.
It's okay.
I'm not mad.
- I know what's going on.
- Molly You're distancing yourself after losing Erika.
The same way you did when you lost your brother.
It's a little more complicated than that.
I'm sure it is.
I would love to be the person you open up to, but I learned last time, when you need space, you really need space, so I'm gonna give you that.
Consider us on a pause.
And when you're ready to have an honest conversation, call me, okay? Okay.
Thanks for understanding.
Hey.
Didn't expect to see you here.
- You back with us? - I wish.
(SIGHS) Dr.
Wendy hasn't signed off on me returning to duty yet.
She wants one last session first.
Will be good to have you back.
You doing okay? Yeah, just tired.
Had a late night studying tactics and training for my final TLI interview with Hicks, which is also today.
(EXHALES SHARPLY) You and Street, you're really going all out.
Bet Hicks wishes he could choose both of you.
Four months of grinding comes down to how well I talk today.
- You really want this, huh? - If I'm selected, I'll be traveling, I'll be busy, I'll be somewhere else.
Everything here Reminds you of Erika.
Yeah, I know.
She was my training buddy, my roommate.
I can't let her down.
I don't want this, I need it.
Then you make that interview about how you'll best represent SWAT.
Hey.
You're Chris Alonso, - Sergeant Kay? - Hi.
I'm Nora Fowler, tactical medic.
DEACON: Hey, welcome.
Grab a locker.
And, uh, everyone calls me Deacon.
Everybody calls me Fowler.
CHRIS: Oh, not that one.
Sorry, just pick any other open locker.
No problem.
She's just going through a lot right now.
FOWLER: Yeah, I get it.
You lost a teammate.
I know this is a tough time for all of you.
I'm not here to get in the way of anything.
How about you? You doing all right? Not really.
No.
None of us are, but, uh, just trying to help keep everyone focused.
A commanding officer of mine once told me that pain is how we honor the dead.
Personally, I just hope I never forget any of their faces.
You don't.
Maybe you can't.
Or shouldn't.
- My little man.
- Oh, yeah? Let me see.
Aw.
He looks just like you.
This is, uh, this is my crew.
Oh, got to hold it horizontal to get us all in.
(CHUCKLES) Wow.
Big family.
Not sure I'll get up to four anytime soon, but congratulations, it must be great.
- Well, yeah.
Sometimes.
- (LAUGHS) I dropped my phone and now the screen is cracked, and now the the Whose number is this? Move it! CASHIER: Sorry, but you need to wait in line.
I need to know whose number this is right now.
GUARD: Hey, buddy, why don't you walk over here Why don't you back off? I'm serious.
Hey! - (GROANS) - (GASPING) I need to know who this number belongs to.
CASHIER: I don't know.
All right, listen up.
Deacon and Street are securing the back.
Tan, I want you and Stevens to get a read on what's going on inside.
- Go.
- Roger.
Hondo, status? The armed suspect hasn't made contact with us yet.
What about the hostage? The security guard heard her crying inside right after the suspect dropped the metal screens.
It's been silent inside since.
I'm gonna send you the security footage before the suspect killed the feed.
- (GUNSHOT) - (GUARD GROANS) HICKS: We can't wait any longer.
20-David, clear for emergency entrance, - on you.
- HONDO: Understood.
We're ready to rock.
You testing for sound? Yeah, old Army trick.
I'm not gonna be why we lose the element of surprise in there.
Wait, hold on, hold on.
Nobody's gonna hear you, because you're gonna stay right here.
We'll radio if anyone needs medical assistance.
You understand? Move.
I got your six.
I'll cover the windows.
Tan, you're up.
25-David, only getting one heat signature, not moving.
One? There should be two.
TAN: (OVER COMMS) Maybe the suspect snuck out already.
HONDO: That or he killed the hostage and he's in there, waiting for us to enter.
Get out of there.
Deacon, Street, what's your status? DEACON: We're inside.
Give us a sec.
30-David in position, - ready to make entry.
- HONDO: Roger that.
Cleared for breach on your call.
Ready to breach.
In three, two, one.
Miss, are you okay? STREET: Hey, it's okay.
It's all right, I got you.
(WHIMPERING) - You all right? - Yeah.
Where'd the gunman go? I I don't know.
He must've left out the back door before we got here.
STREET: It's okay.
Come on.
Okay, come on.
Let's go.
He didn't want money.
- Inventory's all accounted for.
- What did he want? He had a phone number, wanted to know who it belonged to.
- Did you tell him? - I couldn't.
I only take payments.
Kept telling him I don't have access to that information.
HONDO: All right.
It's okay.
Do you remember what that number was? He had a gun in my face.
That's all I remember.
He couldn't have got that far.
Put out an APB.
Let's find him.
- (GUNSHOT OVER VIDEO) - (GUARD GROANS) (METAL CLANGING) MAN: I need to know who this number belongs to.
BURROWS: Phil Winter.
- You know him? - I do.
His ex-wife, Jess Winter, went missing five days ago.
He's our primary suspect in her disappearance.
And you didn't have him locked up or under surveillance? There was no money for a full-time tail, and we didn't have enough to charge him yet.
No body, no crime.
That's right.
I pressed him for a good ten hours, but no confession.
PHIL: You really think I had something to do with my wife's disappearance? Ex-wife.
No, we were talking again.
We were doing good.
We were thinking about getting back together.
Well, maybe you were thinking that, and maybe she wasn't.
That why you killed her? I didn't kill her! I didn't do anything to her! You're wasting time! Why aren't you out there looking for her? That was three days ago.
That's outside the 72-hour window.
The chances of finding her decrease by the minute.
HICKS: Well, we might have caught a break.
After the stunt this guy pulled at the cell phone store We can process a warrant for his place.
I'll send a couple of my guys to assist.
All right.
(GRUNTS) Hey, so, uh, Hondo said you'll be rolling with SWAT for a while? Yep.
Supposed to be floating between teams, starting with you guys.
Now I just have to figure out - how best to fit in.
- Well, listen.
I saw your look when Hondo had you wait outside this morning.
I just want to say hang in there.
He needs time to figure out how to assimilate you.
I'm used to paying my dues.
I had a pretty rocky start when I first got here.
Tried too hard to prove myself, didn't I? Oh, it wasn't pretty.
But once I bought into SWA as a family, they opened their arms to me.
Jury's still out on that one.
So, what can you tell me about Sergeant Harrelson? Hondo? What'd you want to know? First off, why Hondo? Where's that name come from? - You'll have to ask him that.
- (PHONE BEEPING) Warrant just came in to search Winter's apartment.
Burrows got called away, but we're good to go.
See you.
STREET: PD swept the apartment.
No sign of Phil Winter.
Maybe something here will point us to where he might've gone.
- After you.
- Thank you.
(GRUNTS) Hey, Tan.
That guy wasn't ready for it to be over.
Got to know when to pull the plug on a relationship.
Yeah.
TAN: Hey, Bonnie texted.
Said you guys canceled plans tonight? Yeah.
Sorry.
Something came up.
Yeah? 'Cause I saw Molly leaving HQ this morning, looking a little upset.
Yeah, we're just, uh, we're just working through some things.
It's not a big deal.
All right.
Well, hopefully her father sees it that way.
Especially with your interview coming up.
He has an eerie way of knowing what's up.
- (BEEPS) - It's locked.
Bag it.
Forensics will crack it.
(KEYBOARD CLACKING) STREET: I'm in.
What? How'd you get in? It's called stellar police work.
(TYPING) This isn't his dating profile.
It's his ex-wife's.
He must've hacked it.
Had to find out who she was seeing? That confirms why he was at the phone store this morning.
Must be hunting for the dude.
Yeah, except it doesn't look like she ever met up with any of these guys.
Look, she never even exchanged numbers.
Hey, what's that down there? A flirty text exchange between Jess and some dude named Sunshine.
Look, he offered to take her on a trip.
What's his number? It's a screenshot.
I can't see it.
Well, we better figure it out and find the guy before the jealous ex-husband does.
Well, everything looks great on paper.
You won your climbing cadre, weapons competitions.
You've exemplified leadership qualities on and off duty.
- Thank you, sir.
- But I want to it hear from you.
Why do you think you're the best person to represent LAPD as a Tactical Leadership Institute liaison in Europe? For months, all I cared about was everything you just read.
The accolades, winning.
But after Erika But after Officer Rogers died, I realized I was being selfish, and I lost track of why I truly wanted this.
Erika always reminded me that we had to be the proof that women can be SWAT.
When I was first coming up, there was a female L.
T.
in K-9 division, Lieutenant Miller.
Yeah, I knew Miller.
Good officer.
I remember the day I first saw her on a case.
She took command, and because of her, we were able to find this missing little boy.
And in that moment, it hit me.
If another woman can lead like that, so could I.
I want to win this thing on merit, because that's what'll inspire other female cops to raise the bar for themselves in their own way, which makes the entire department stronger.
And if I can't win on merit, then I'll get better, do better on the next thing.
(BULLET SHELLS CLINK) (DOOR OPENS) - Hey.
- Hey.
Don't leave me in suspense.
How'd it go? Come on, it couldn't have been that bad.
I was too emotional.
I talked about Erika way too much.
Hicks barely reacted.
I'm sure you did fine.
Fine's not gonna beat Street.
So, I've been reviewing every day - to improve on that.
- (PHONE BUZZES) Wait a sec.
It's Molly.
Is everything okay? Yeah.
Why wouldn't it be? Continue.
Okay.
GENNA: I can't believe she's been missing five days.
We're following a new lead, and we think Jess may have had a new guy in her life.
GENNA: My sister was dating? That would've made Phil insane.
I saw how super-obsessed he was after Jess left him.
You recognize the nickname Sunshine? GENNA: Yeah.
That's what she called this guy she worked with.
They flirted but nothing serious.
- You know his real name? - Joe.
Joe something.
Joe I don't remember.
I mean, she said he was just a friend.
I'm never gonna see her again, am I? Listen, I have sisters, too.
And if anything happened to either one of them I need you to do whatever you can for Jess.
Can you do that? Try to remember.
What's Joe's last name? Started with an "F," I think.
Falcone! Joe Falcone.
- Thank you.
- Please find her.
- We're gonna do everything we can.
- Okay.
Got Falcone's address.
That's where our guy's heading.
Let's go.
- (SIREN CHIRPS) - (TIRES SCREECHING) - (SIRENS APPROACHING) - (CAR DOOR CLOSES) (ENGINE STARTS) Dress to kill (TIRES SCREECHING) The drinks flow People forget That big wheel spins The hair thins People forget - There he is, silver Impala.
- He's making a run for it.
Hang on.
The news slows (TIRES SCREECHING) TAN: 20-David.
Vehicle in pursuit of the suspect, Phil Winter.
Turned down an alley between Glendale and Colorado in a silver Impala.
Hopes are dashed People forget Forget they're hiding Behind an eminence front STREET: 26-David to 20-David.
Closing in on your position.
We'll head the suspect off on Colorado.
It's just an eminence front An eminence front TAN: Suspect cut through a park, heading south towards Warner Avenue.
We're right behind you guys.
An eminence front An eminence front It's a put-on STREET: Branching off.
We'll get ahead of him on the other side.
TAN: Roger that, we're on him.
It's an eminence front (PANICKED CHATTER) It's a put-on, it's a put-on Come and join the party Dress to Come on, join the party Dress to Come on, join the party Dress to Come on, join the party - STREET: Out of the car! - DEACON: LAPD! STREET: On your knees! Hands behind your head! I didn't kill my wife! I'm trying to save her! She doesn't have much time left! Dress yourself to kill Upbeat music Molly.
That's a nice surprise.
Hey, Dad.
Everything okay? Have you seen Chris around? I saw her earlier.
I think she might be in with Dr.
Wendy right now.
Just looking for a little insight into Jim.
I know they're close.
Oh, God.
I can't believe I'm gonna ask this.
Are you and him having issues? I'm sorry.
Used to always hit up Mom about these things.
I know.
It just might not be my specialty, you know? But, um, I'm happy to give it a shot.
What's that idiot gone and done? He's not an idiot.
It's nothing like that.
He's just been so distant since Erika's funeral.
Things aren't the same now.
We hardly talk.
Well, grief's a tricky thing.
I'm aware.
I told him I'd give him space.
I just didn't think he'd be so quick to want it.
If you love somebody, don't you need them there for you when you're hurting? Of course.
I mean, as far as I'm concerned, nobody's worthy of my daughter.
(CHUCKLES) I'm sure that's probably not helpful, but you listen to me.
You've always had great instincts, so you trust that.
Okay? Um, Chris will probably be done with Dr.
Wendy pretty soon, and, you know, maybe she'll have a better take on all this than me.
Okay.
Thanks, Dad.
I appreciate you trying.
Yeah.
I didn't do anything to her.
Come on, Phil.
Prisons are full of people that didn't do anything, until a jury said they did.
She's alive.
(LOUD THUD) You're wasting time.
If she's alive, then where is she? I was trying to find her.
This guy she worked with, Joe Falcone, he took her.
Why do you think that? 'Cause he's a creep.
Joe was always sniffing around Jess, even before the divorce.
You think it's a coincidence he was at her house the day she disappeared? Come on, I just saw him an hour ago on the doorbell footage.
Doesn't prove anything.
PHIL: Except he's a creep.
If you get my phone, I can prove it.
Jess called me this morning from a number I didn't recognize.
That's why I was at the wireless store, to find out whose number it was.
So, what, you're saying that she called you from Joe's phone? BURROWS: And this voice message Jess left you, it's gonna verify your story? It wasn't a message.
We talked for, like, five seconds.
I asked her where she was, and he must have snatched the phone, because she screamed and the call cut off.
And we're just supposed to take your word for it? Phil, help me understand something here.
If you had this proof, why didn't you - just call 911? - Because the second a woman goes missing, you guys automatically want - to pin it on the husband.
- BURROWS: Ex-husband.
And everything points to you.
Are you even looking at other suspects? Oh, my God.
See? You want to keep me another ten hours? Because that is time Jess doesn't have.
Joe knows she called me this morning.
Check my phone.
Please.
Jess needs help.
Commander? Can I talk to you about my involvement on 20-Squad? I don't think it's the right fit.
And you came to this conclusion after a few hours? It's not what I signed up for, sir.
Well, what is it you signed up for? Not to be left on the sideline.
Right now it feels like I'm only here so your department can check whatever box needed checking.
Well, first off, I don't play politics.
And secondly, I handpicked you for this team to help them through all this, because I know you can relate to how they're feeling right now.
I read what happened to you overseas.
Be patient.
Give it time.
If things don't improve, I'll assign you to another team.
Phil Winter's phone record indicates that he received an incoming call at 8:48 this morning.
And it only lasted 14 seconds.
I think the guy's telling the truth.
Which means Jess is out there somewhere alive.
Are there any other leads on Joe Falcone's whereabouts? I just touched base with Miami-Dade PD.
Falcone moved here in August from Florida.
HONDO: The Sunshine State.
Yeah, sounds like the guy really is a creep.
One of his coworkers down there filed two stalker complaints.
She ultimately had to get a restraining order.
All right.
The last time Falcone's cell pinged a tower was way out here, north of the city.
That's a big area to canvass.
His DMV records list two addresses, one in the city, and the other right near that last ping.
That's the middle of the desert.
(JESS GASPS) (SHUDDERS) You need to eat.
I don't want you starving yourself.
I brought you here to make you happy.
You said your ex never did anything like that for you.
I won't call him again.
I'm so good to you.
Why can't you see that? I do see it, Joe.
But I need to go home now, Joe.
When can I go home? You made me feel like you wanted to be with me, but it's still him, isn't it? Isn't it? - I just want to go home, please.
- Too late, Jess! (SHUDDERING) - (ALARM BLARING) - (YELLS) - (SOBBING) - Quiet! No sign of movement.
Windows and doors on the west and east sides.
That's Joe Falcone's car.
HONDO: Looks like our best approach is the one-side.
All right, Tan, jump back in Betty.
Lead us to the one-side on my call.
Form a stick.
We enter on the porch toward the front door.
Fowler, stay back until we're clear.
I'm trained to go into hostile situations.
Yeah, well, you haven't trained with us.
If there's a medical situation, you'll come in right away.
Let's move.
Street, check the three-side.
STREET: LAPD! Search warrant! Open up! Tan, door.
LAPD! LAPD! HONDO: Kitchen clear! DEACON: Bedroom clear! Food's warm.
Stove's still on.
DEACON: Lights left on.
Someone just left.
- We're too late? - (GUNSHOT) That's not good.
They're out in the desert.
20 David.
I need Airship 20 to land.
I need my guys' eyes in the air.
We found tire tracks leading out to the desert, headed east, same direction as the gunshot.
We'll follow the tracks in the SWAT SUVs.
Go.
Where are the checkpoints? Local PD's got roadblocks, set up here and here.
HONDO: All right, let's expand it to a 15-mile blockade.
Block exit ramps from Route 15 to the east of the 10.
Hop on that bird and check the surrounding area.
Relay if you see anything.
Hey.
Hey! Where you going? Two more eyes can't hurt if you want to find her.
Okay, but you stay close to me.
I'm good.
Let's go.
HONDO: Stop.
Stop.
STREET: What do you got, boss? Suspect stopped here.
And then he backed up, and then he kept going.
Stopped here for what? To get rid of evidence.
Let's spread out.
Grid search up the hill.
Suspect could've been looking for a place to dump her body.
Nothing on his property.
We're heading east to search the desert.
HONDO: Roger that, Deac.
Hold on.
I might have something.
Vehicle spotted, two o'clock! Head towards that pickup truck.
Let's head towards the road.
Might find something over there.
TAN: Wait.
Shell casing.
Tan, Tan.
Drag marks.
(THUMPING) Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Something's hollow under here.
Let's get it off.
(BOTH STRAINING) 26-David, we might've located the victim down an old mine shaft.
- Hey, Jess! Can you hear us? - Jess! Jess Winter! Get the gear.
I'm going down.
Lower us down so I can see inside.
That's our guy.
That's Falcone.
No one in the passenger seat.
He's alone.
- Gun! - (GUNSHOTS) DEACON: Hold on.
30-David.
ID'd Falcone in the truck.
We're taking fire.
HONDO: Are you good? DEACON: Yeah, yeah, we're good.
FOWLER: All your assessment gear, everything you need is in here.
All right, I got it.
If she's alive, I'll treat the bullet wound first, stabilize her neck, put her on the litter, and get her up to you.
Don't worry about stabilizing.
If there's a spinal injury, it's already done.
What I'm worried about is internal bleeding and extraction time.
She'll be in shock.
Got to get her out as quickly as possible.
All right, stay on comms.
Let's go, Street.
(PANTING) Get me down there.
(WHIRRING) Looks like her clothes got caught up on these planks.
Might've softened her fall.
FOWLER: Hopefully it kept her alive.
TAN: How you doing, boss? I'm good.
I'm at the bottom.
Lower down a little more slack for me.
(WHIRRING) Jess.
Jess, can you hear me? Jess, can you hear me? She's alive.
She's got a strong carotid pulse, but her breathing is slow.
I also see multiple abrasions on her torso, and her shirt's covered in blood.
Her skin is dusky, mottled.
It could be internal bleeding.
Have you located the source of the wound? Shot to the back, through and through, it looks like.
I'm gonna seal the bullet wound.
Come on, Jess, stay with me.
Just listen to the sound of my voice.
Come on, Jess.
I got you.
(OVER COMMS) I'm right here.
All right, I'm going to BVM.
Jess, stay with my voice, all right? Just keep listening to my voice.
(PANTING) Can you move your fingers? Jess, can you move your fingers, anything? Anything to show me that you can hear me.
Come on, Jess, come back to me.
Come on, Jess.
Come on.
(JESS INHALES DEEPLY) Okay, there she is.
There she is.
I see you, Jess.
All right, I got you.
I'm right here.
You stay with me, Jess.
Where exactly is the bullet wound on her back? It entered her rib cage on the right, came out her chest.
FOWLER: And her breathing? Ten, 12 breaths per minute? - No.
More like five or less.
- FOWLER: Less than five? The bullet must've punctured her thoracic cavity.
She needs to be treated down there right away.
Hondo was a medic in the Marines, he knows what he's doing.
Come on, Jess.
Come on.
Send that litter down here.
We got to get her out now.
No, she needs a needle T, or she won't make it by the time we get her out.
All right, come on.
DEACON: Get out in front of him.
I need a clear shot at that engine before he makes it to that neighborhood.
One shot could take us down.
Get us as close as you safely can.
Fowler, what are you doing? - I said we got to get her out.
- FOWLER: Slack! This is what I do, Sergeant.
I know you run the show around here, but you need to trust me, or she won't survive.
All right, go, go.
Do your thing.
Okay, right side has diminished breathing.
Hey, Jess, can you hear me? Okay, you did well treating the bullet wound, but air is still getting into her chest cavity.
Collapsing her lung.
Exactly.
It's a tension pneumothorax.
Her chest is filling up like a balloon.
Her own breathing is killing her.
All right, let me help you.
I can help.
Disinfect as well as you can.
Once I insert the needle into her chest, it should release the trapped air, but even if that works, we're gonna need to get her to a hospital right away.
This is 20-David to dispatch.
Alert the hospital.
Female victim in her mid-20s, suffered a GSW, tension pneumo and possible spinal injury.
Great, now prep the C-collar.
Gently, gently.
(GRUNTS) - Good.
- All right, we're good.
- We're good.
- Okay.
All right, there's the clavicle.
Okay.
Found my spot.
(AIR ESCAPING) Air release is a good sign.
Hey, Jess? Jess, can you hear me? - Jess? Jess - (GASPS) There you go, there you go.
That a girl.
Keep breathing.
Just keep breathing.
Okay, we're not out of the woods yet.
Let's get her up.
He's gonna hit a highway soon.
Just keep her steady.
(BULLET RICOCHETS) PILOT: We've been hit.
We're too close.
When we lift her, keep her super straight.
Got to keep her cervical spine stabilized.
All right, I got it.
We're gonna get you out of here.
Tan, Street.
Get Jess and Fowler up.
Let's go.
All right, easy.
Easy.
All right, let's do it.
I'm right here, Jess.
I got you.
You all right? Yeah.
You're doing great.
We're gonna get there, okay? (EXHALES) (ENGINE RATTLES) (ENGINE GRINDING, WHIRRING) Get us down.
DEACON: (OVER SPEAKER) Hands in the air.
This is the LAPD.
Get out of the car, show me your hands.
Don't think, just do it.
(COUGHS) This is 30-David.
We've got code four on the suspect.
STREET: Almost there.
We got this.
TAN: Come on, come on.
I got you.
I got you.
STREET: Helicopter's on its way.
- HONDO: Is she good? - She's good! All right, I'm all set.
Get me out of here.
(WHIRRING) Jess? You're doing great, all right? Stay with me.
(GRUNTS) - (HELICOPTER BLADES WHIRRING) - Hey, here comes the bird.
Let's go! PILOT: Come on.
Let's go.
Heard back from the hospital.
Jess Winter is gonna survive.
Now, I was told you were a big part of that.
Thanks, sir.
There's some good people here.
Think I'm fine giving it some time.
Good.
They're gonna announce the TLI winner in a few minutes.
Alonso! I was hoping you were still here.
I missed being out there today.
I was just heading over to, uh, Eagle's Nest to hear you announce the TLI result.
I'm glad I caught you first.
You were wrong in your interview.
About what? Well, when you compete, when you battle and push yourself against some of the best athletes this city has to offer, the way you did, that doesn't just inspire women cops to raise the bar.
It inspires everyone.
It's the journey that inspires others.
It's not just the destination.
I understand.
(CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Yeah! Alonso! (TAN LAUGHS) Yeah.
(WHOOPS) (WHISTLES) The LAPD would be honored for you to represent this department overseas as our leadership liaison.
Is that something you can do for us? Yes, sir.
Thank you.
Tough break.
Now you got to go babysit Luca.
Ah, I'm more than happy to do it.
- It's all about the journey.
- Congrats.
Who had money on my girl Chris? - TAN: Yeah! - Yeah! Well, we'll work out the details when you start, but for now, enjoy.
Good stuff.
- Congratulations.
- Thanks.
Erika would be proud.
And thank you for the advice.
- Congratulations.
- Thanks.
Congrats.
You deserved it.
Can we talk? Yeah.
Sure.
What are you doing? Are you with Molly or not? She came and chewed my ear off today looking for advice about you and her.
She thinks you're on some pause.
We are.
Her choice.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
She doesn't want a pause, whatever the hell that is.
She just doesn't know what's going on with you.
- Are you gonna hear me out? - I've heard enough.
You put me in a position where I had to lie to her today and I don't appreciate it.
I'm sorry.
I didn't realize that she would come to you.
She's too good of a person to deserve any of this.
And this pipe dream about us is never happening.
I don't want to be in the middle of this anymore.
Hey.
You guys coming? We're gonna celebrate.
(SIGHS) Sorry, not me.
I, um I'm gonna have a night to myself.
- Pretty wiped.
- Yeah, cool, do your thing.
Congratulations.
Street? Yeah.
(CLOSES ZIPPER) HONDO: Someone you knew? Your K.
I.
A.
bracelet.
Yeah, he was.
Where were you deployed? Afghanistan.
Attached to the Ranger 3rd Battalion.
Heard you were a Marine.
Oorah.
(LAUGHS SOFTLY) Good first day, Army.
Thanks, Marine.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Hey.
MOLLY: Hi.
I probably should've called, but, um I was thinking maybe we could go grab a drink, talk? Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea.
The drink, anyway.
But we should talk.
There's something I need to say.
What's wrong? I know that you said that you'd give me time and space, but it's not Not what? (INHALES SHARPLY) You're breaking up with me? That's what you're doing? (SOBBING) Can you at least tell me why? I don't love you the way you deserve to be loved.
- I'm sorry.
- (EXHALES) Say something.
(SNIFFLES) (DOOR OPENS, CLOSES) (GRUNTS) You're not staying? Late at night, a pale suffusion You never even told me your name.
Yeah, I know.
Well, I'll just get your number, then, in case.
There won't be an "in case.
" Tide ballooning through you (SIGHS) Something looms Something's wrong Late at night
