1 Previously on The Fosters: Ow! Ah! - That's a - Nail.
It's embedded several inches into his frontal lobe.
Yeah, I'm at an increased risk of having a seizure.
Stop hitting on my girlfriend.
You're about half my size on a good day, little man.
- I will break you.

Well, maybe you shouldn't be then.
I want to go to Juilliard more than anything.
- I got in! - (screaming) - So when are you taking the test? - It's tomorrow.
You know, I was kind of thinking that you could take it for me.

The consequence of which is no Juilliard, no college, period.

- I won't tell if you won't.
- I took some of Jesus's ADHD pills.
- Why? - To stay focused.
- Just get in the car.
No, leave me alone! I never wanna see you again! - What did you do to her? - Jesus! - Jesus! - I think my sister's missing.
I actually did see her.
They couldn't have gotten too much further.
- Hey.
- Aaron: Hey.
So I just got a call from the JJC.
- They got the DNA report back.
- And? - And Harvey is not a match.
- Oh.
But there was more DNA on the murder weapon, besides Kyle's.
They can't ID it, but it's from someone related to Martha.
A man.
- Oh, good.
Thank God.
- Huh? - No, I'm glad you found her.
- Found who? - Uh-huh.
- Okay, what? Callie, what are you talking about? - Did you hear what I said? - Yeah.
I'll be right back.
Mm-hmm.
Right back? What So it looks like they found her.
My sister.
Um So you can just drop me anywhere.
You've been so helpful, I don't wanna inconvenience you anymore.
- You know - Yeah, I just wanna know one thing.
Why are you so convinced that Kyle is innocent? I'm not.
I just It seems like he didn't get a fair trial.
- Okay, yeah, but you weren't there.
- You can just You didn't live through it.
I mean, I sat in that courtroom every single day and I heard every single piece of evidence.
- Yeah, sure.
You can just - And I'm telling you, I'm telling you that that kid is a monster! And that you need to let this go! - You understand? - Okay, you need to stop the car right now.
I mean, really, do you really want to let a killer back on the streets? - Please stop the car! - What the hell is wrong with you? Watch out! What the hell are you doing? (screaming) (siren wailing) Mom, do we really have to do this? I'm fine.
I'm sure you are, Jesus, but you know what? You passed out when Nick hit you.
All right? We're gonna get you checked out.
But this is this is ridiculous.
Humor me.
- It smells in here.
- What? Why does it smell like - Why does it smell like gas? - Don't look at me.
No.
I mean, like like gasoline, Mom.
It's awful.
I don't smell gasoline, love.
We're in a vehicle, so I'm sure that it, you know - (moaning) - What's wrong, baby? - Ow, damn! - What's wrong? Hey, hey, hey! Relax, relax, relax, relax.
You're okay.
All right? You're okay.
- (blood pressure cuff pumping) - Hey.
Just relax, sweetheart.
Just relax.
Just relax.
What's happening? What's going on? What's wrong with him? What's happening? Jesus! You have to stop this! - I got it.
- Jesus, Jesus! (beeping) (theme song plays) It's not where you come from It's where you belong Nothing I would trade I wouldn't have it any other way You're surrounded By love and you're wanted So never feel alone You are home with me Right where you belong (Callie panting) Woman (on phone): 911.
What's your emergency? Um, I have to, uh - Um, there was an accident.
- What's your location? It's, uh, off of Harbor Boulevard.
Um, near the blue glass building.
Hey! Hey! Ah! (indistinct chatter) Hey, can I help you? Oh, yeah, sorry.
Um, that's my dad's boat.
- Which one? - I'm sorry? Which boat is your dad's? Coconut Telegraph.
- So you're Jim's kid? - Yup.
It's nice to meet you.
He's told me a lot about you.
- (chuckles) - Go ahead.
Have fun.
- That was pretty good.
- Hey, if you're polite and you smile, it's amazing what you can get away with.
Yeah, when you have a smile like yours.
I mean, it's not as good as mine, but Whoa! This is amazing.
Not bad, huh? This is awesome.
Not bad, huh? (phone rings) - Hey.
- Aaron: Hey.
What'd you mean, "You'll be right back"? Is everything okay? Callie? Callie? What the hell is going on? You're freaking me out, please.
I'm right here, Jesus, you hear me? - Can you hear me? - Let's get him out.
Stay back.
- Okay, I'm right here.
I'm right here.
- Here we go.
Contact.
All right.
- Can you hear me? - Excuse me.
Here we go.
Okay, clear.
- All right.
- All right, what do we have? Male, 16, head trauma from a fist fight.
He's been seizing for over two minutes now.
Pushed 2 milligrams Ativan, but no luck.
- He had a nail in his head.
- Oh, right, uh, frontal lobe.
- He had a nail in his head? - Yes, from a nail gun.
But they took it out, he's fine, he's been fine.
- Where was he hit? During the fight, ma'am? - What? - Where was he hit? - He was hit in the forehead.
If you could head to the waiting room, okay? - He's my son.
I'm staying here.
- Please, ma'am I'm not going anywhere! So, please do not ask me again! - It's fine.
- One, two, three.
- Grab the board.
Grab the board.
- Got it.
- Throw him back.
- Clear it out.
Okay.
(indistinct chatter) - You good? Okay.
- Yeah, we're good.
Go.
- (sobbing) - Oxygen! Oxygen! Ma'am You gotta get her out of here.
Get her out of here, please! We got this, go.
(indistinct) He's gonna be fine.
He's gonna be fine.
How do you say goodbye? Will anybody teach me? 'Cause the holy water's gone dry The cathedral's empty If I could build a tower To heaven, I would Maybe build a ladder Past the sky Look God in the eyes Try to change his mind Maybe he will let you Come back with me tonight How do you say goodbye? - So, I noticed your hair.
- Oh, yeah.
Gabby came over last night.
We got in the wine Looks good.
So, uh I think I got in a little over my head here.
I know.
- I care about you so much - I know you do, Brandon.
I know.
I just feel like I'm afraid if I stay, I'm always gonna feel like it's my job to take care of you and Mason.
- I never asked you to do that.
- No, you're right.
It's just whether or not - I go to Juilliard - In fact, I told you not even to get involved with me.
- But you just you had to keep - I know.
I'm sorry.
I never wanted to be the thing that holds you back.
- I'd, uh, like to help with the rent.
- No.
- I can find another job.
- No.
You've done enough.
- I really want to help.
- No, I'm not helpless, Brandon! Okay.
Would it be okay maybe if I came over sometimes to hang out with Mason? I don't think that's a good idea.
I don't want him getting more attached to you than he already is.
Yeah.
Okay.
Actually, I should go check on him.
He should be getting up from his nap soon.
Okay.
What are you doing here? Don't worry.
He's fine.
He was wide awake and talking.
Complaining, actually, when they put him in the ambulance.
Mariana, why don't you text Mom, find out where they are.
- Mariana.
- Huh? - Are you okay? - Yeah, totally, I'm just No, she isn't.
Why not? What's going on? Nothing.
I just She's been taking Jesus's ADHD meds.
What? - Mama.
- Don't "Mama" me.
- Why on earth - No, Mama.
What? (upbeat rock music plays) - Hey.
Look.
- Nice! (both laugh) (gasps) Whoa! Check it out! Wasted, breaking off chains and making my way On my own Changed it, copied and pasted Oh, my God.
I totally feel like this is my fault.
No.
I'm the one who did it.
And I'm the one who made the decision.
It's on me.
All on me.
(toy squeaks) I mean, why else would Troy show up at BayFest? To get me in his car.
No, he has something to hide and he wants me to shut up.
Maybe.
But Callie, things aren't always what they seem.
Okay? Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Hey, you okay? Yeah, I'm just a little sore from the accident.
But I'm fine.
You should probably go to the police, give them a statement.
It's the right thing to do.
And you've done nothing wrong.
Just don't say anything about Troy and the murder and the DNA evidence.
It'll make you sound crazy, and it could get us both in a lot of trouble.
Okay.
Um, I just wanna talk to my mom first.
Yeah.
Of course.
Hey, did you find Mariana? Okay, good.
Wait, what about Jesus? Oh, my God.
So? Hey.
Um He was doing fine, and then he had some kind of a long seizure.
And he's still unconscious.
But they're running blood tests and CAT scans and EEGs or whatever they're called.
They think that the nail in his head was what caused the seizures, and that perhaps the injury compromised the brain somehow.
But he's gonna be okay, right? Honey, he's young and he's strong.
They're doing everything they can.
He's gonna be all right.
I know it.
Are you Jesus Adams Fosters' parents? - Yes.
- Yes? - I'd like to ask him a few questions.
- About what? - The assault of Nick Stratos.
- Assault? No, I'm sorry.
That's insane.
Nick Stratos cut off his ankle bracelet.
He violated his parole.
That's really a separate issue.
And according to both Nick and Jesus's sister, who was there at the time, Jesus threw the first punch.
Now, if you don't mind, I just wanna ask him a couple of questions.
Wait, no, that's not what I said.
- And you are? - His sister.
Well, according to the officers at the scene, - you and the victim - The victim? Nick Stratos the vic ? No, no, no.
Okay, this young man was stalking my daughter.
He broke into our house.
- He was arrested - Whoa, okay, okay, okay.
Look.
But according to your daughter, she and Nick were sitting on the grass when your son jumped out of the car and started swinging.
- Mariana? - No, that's not Jesus thought that Nick was gonna hurt me.
- So we just wanna talk with him.
- Okay, well, he's unconscious right now, so he's not gonna be very helpful.
Excuse me, I just wanna let you know that your son's awake and talking.
I can take one of you to see him now.
Fine.
Then I'm gonna go with you.
Because I'm a cop too.
And no one questions my son without me being present.
- It's just a few questions.
- Great.
Then it won't take long.
- Okay? - Lena: Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Um, have you heard from Brandon or Jude? Um, no.
Let me try and get a hold of them now.
Okay? Thank you.
(both panting) (sighs) (cell phone rings, vibrates) - Hello? - Callie: Hey, it's me.
Where are you? - Mat: Hey.
- Hey.
Are you all right? What happened? Mariana.
Mariana.
You need to come with me.
Huh? Why? Mat just got here.
Because I'm having you checked out by a doctor, that's why.
Mat will still be here when you get back.
Come on.
- Why's she, um - You'll have to ask her.
- (upbeat pop music plays) - Mm! Oh, my God.
Like, why are potato chips like the most delicious thing ever created in the history of the world? Like, why do we ever need to eat something else? (laughs) Wait.
What if we, like, invented a potato chip that would give you all the nutrition and nutrients and vitamins that you needed every day.
Then you wouldn't have to eat anything else.
(both laughing) Prayers with a light-up Rosary I'm sleeping in my car to save my money I never wanted you to stop You to stop loving me But my hiccups got real bad For you to flee - You sure you wanna ? - Yeah.
(footsteps above) - Oh, God, what are we gonna do? - Um So you didn't throw the first punch? Uh, no, I did, but it was Because according to him, you were the aggressor.
And your sister is corroborating Mr.
Stratos' version of events.
My sister? Like, Mariana? What Dude, why are you He was gonna hurt her! - It's the only reason I did - You need to calm down.
- You calm down! No! - She said she was in no danger when you showed up.
Well, that's bull! That is a complete load of bull! Like Why does it smell so terrible in here? - What, baby? - Why does it smell like gasoline in a hospital? Okay, you need to get out of here.
I need a doctor! Please, I need a doctor! He's seizing again! Please, I need a doctor, somebody! Voicemail: Hey, it's Jude.
You know what to do.
Jude, it's Brandon.
Where are you? How about you pick up the phone sometime? We gotta get to the hospital, Jesus got hurt.
Call me as soon as you get this.
- We'll find him.
- Where is he? Should we, like, maybe, like, hide in the closet or something? (footsteps) Um, I don't think hiding's gonna work.
Go! Go! You make me happy, oh, so happy - I wanna do a little dance - Nice shorts! You make me happy Oh, so happy I wanna do a little dance right here Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh You look so lovely - Hey, what's going on? - The boat's sinking! The boat is sinking! - Hey, Jim! What's going on? - Go, go, go! - I don't know! Gonna pull over! - Are you all right over there? Let me look! Billy, we got a couple of kids broke into a boat or something.
I'm going after 'em.
This is ridiculous.
- Wait, stop! - (shouting) Stop, stop! Jude! Over here! Go, go, go! Get in! Get in! Get in! Get in! - Man: Hey! - Go! Go, go, go! Drive, drive! - What is going on? - That! Go! - Drive! - Okay, okay.
Jude: Go! (laughs) Brandon: I don't even wanna know.
Okay? Jude: Dude, that was awesome! So how long has this been going on? - (beeping) - Not long.
Is this why your brother's pills went missing from the mail? (sighs) Of course it is.
- And how many did you take? - Can I see your - I don't know.
- You don't know? - A few.
- What does "a few" mean? - Like, two or three.
- Well, two or three? Which is it? - Three.
- (sighs) And I only did it because I was falling behind in school and I hadn't been sleeping, and I won't do it again, okay? You're damn right you're not gonna do it again.
You're sure it was just a few? Really? (beeping) Her blood pressure's a little high and she's very dehydrated, but she doesn't seem too badly off.
You're lucky.
- Is that it? - For me.
Just gonna send the phlebotomist in to take your blood.
And that should tell us a lot more.
He'll be right in.
- Excuse me.
- Mm-hmm? Um, do you know if anyone's been brought in from a car accident? Off of Harbor Boulevard? - Are you family? - No.
I can't tell you anything, then.
Sorry, sweetheart.
Well? I just hope they're okay, the people in the other car.
Maybe the police will be able to tell you something when you give 'em your statement.
Okay, so I've been thinking.
Troy might not have even told them that I was there.
At the accident, I mean.
No, think about it.
If he really does have something to hide, then the last thing he'd wanna do is draw attention to himself and have me saying that he wouldn't let me out of his car, right? Maybe.
But that's a big risk, Callie.
I really think you need to tell your mom.
He cut off his ankle bracelet and just showed up at BayFest? How'd he even know you were there? I don't know.
Jesus must have told him, I guess.
Why would he do that? Did he hurt you or something? Is that why your mom wanted you to see a doctor? They found out that I was taking Jesus's ADHD pills.
What? You were taking his pills? Why? Just stupid, I guess.
(Jude laughing) - Thanks for taking Noah home.
- Cort: Mm-hmm.
No worries.
- Okay, I'll text you later.
- Okay, bye.
Bye.
Hope Jesus is okay.
Hey, thanks for this.
Okay, I'll call you later.
Doctor: His brain is swelling, so we have to relieve the pressure right away.
We're gonna put Jesus into a medically-induced coma, and then insert a bolt into his skull which will monitor the pressure and let us know if we need to take any other action.
I'm sorry, you're gonna put a bolt into his head? We have to.
If the swelling continues, it can press down on the spinal column severing the connection between the two, which could be fatal.
- Oh, my God.
- But this is gonna relieve that, right? Not exactly.
It'll monitor the pressure and let us know if we need to drain fluid from the brain.
And if this doesn't work, we can always do a craniotomy, where we remove a piece of the skull and allow the brain room to expand.
But we hope that won't be necessary.
Okay.
How long until we know if it worked? Hours, days, weeks.
Nurse, we're ready.
We just don't know.
Okay.
Love you, baby.
Love you.
We love you, baby.
Okay? He's gonna be okay.
(soft music plays) Put your arms Around Something Breathing I am here With you It's always Our present, past We've tried escaping And if I let this phase me My whole life starts replacing - You and I - You and I You and I Get these memories out of my head Make me more alive than dead - You and I - You and I You and I Know that we'll survive If we can let the dead just lie And focus on the life that lies ahead I wanna I need to go pray.
I know you don't want to, but I need to.
That's fine, love.
Okay.
- Hey.
- You left this in my car.
Oh.
Thanks.
- Can we talk for a second? - Yeah.
Listen, I think today was kind of a mistake.
A big one.
- Uh, okay.
- I mean, nothing's changed.
That's not true.
I mean, everything has changed.
Yeah, well, first of all, I kinda feel like I'm your back-up plan or consolation prize or whatever.
- You're not - You hurt me, Brandon.
And I told you over and over that you shouldn't get involved with me, that I had a kid, that it was too much for you to take on.
But no matter how many times I said it, you came back and you said, "No, I want this, I can do this, I mean it.
" But I was right, you couldn't.
So you hurt me and you hurt Mason.
And I'm never getting over that.
I gotta go.
I think I'm just gonna wait out here.
What? Why? I don't think Callie's really gonna wanna see me right now.
Why, what happened? We got into a fight.
Or we broke up, I'm not really sure.
Wow.
Must have been one hell of a fight.
What was it about? That dude Aaron you were asking me about.
- Is something going on with them? - No.
I don't think so.
But She said if she wasn't going out with me, she would consider going out with him.
I see.
But she is going out with you.
So? Well, she said she'd consider it if she wasn't going out with you.
- But she is.
- And? That's still a really mean thing to say to somebody.
(sighs) I don't know how mean it is.
Okay.
I mean, dumb, yeah.
But don't you think maybe you overreacted a little bit? I mean, if Ana broke up with me every time I said something stupid, we'd need a revolving door at my apartment.
Come on.
Hey.
Are you okay? What was that about? We broke up.
I thought you already broke up 'cause of Juilliard.
It turns out I'm not going.
You're kidding.
Why not? It's a long story.
Um I took the SAT for someone because Cort and I needed the money, and I got caught.
Oh, my God, Brandon.
Don't tell anyone yet, okay? Mama knows, but I haven't told Mom.
And I don't know how I'm supposed to now.
Yeah.
- I'll be back.
- Mm-hmm.
- I'm sorry.
- Me too.
I'm sorry! I never should have said that.
That's not what I meant.
I know.
Me neither.
I just I was being stupid and jealous.
- What I was trying to say - It doesn't matter.
No, it does matter.
'Cause I never wanna make you feel like that.
Okay? He just picked me up and is dropping me off, okay? It's not I know.
I know, I just I should probably go talk to him.
To apologize.
(sighs) I just came to check on everyone before I had to go in to work.
- Where's your moms? - Uh, they're back with Jesus.
I got everybody's stuff.
I broke down the booth at the festival, I figured I'd just take the rest of it home for now, huh? Yeah.
That was nice of you, Dad.
Thanks.
I, uh I got you something.
I was gonna give it to you earlier, but I found it in a bookstore about a year ago.
I, uh, turned down a few pages of cool stuff we could do when I come visit.
Uh, you bought this a year ago? How'd you know I was gonna get in? I just did.
I'm so proud of you.
- Hey, man.
- Hey.
- I'm sorry about today.
- Oh, uh, it's cool.
I probably shouldn't have said all those things.
Yeah, you probably shouldn't have.
And I definitely shouldn't have made that crack about your size.
To be fair, I didn't know you were trans, so I just mean that if I'd have known, I never would have said those things.
When Callie told me, I felt like an ass.
Anyway, I'm sorry.
- We good? - Yeah.
Yeah.
We're good.
All right.
I know you're only supposed to give me things I can handle, but I can't handle this.
Don't you dare take my son.
Do you understand? Don't you dare.
Hey.
He's gonna be okay.
- How do you know? - What? How do you know that he's gonna be okay? He wouldn't have even He wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you.
- But I was just - You were just what? You were just seeing Nick all the time? You were just lying to everybody about it? You were just making your brother keep all your secrets? All he ever did was try to protect you, and now look where it got him.
What did she mean, you've been seeing Nick all this time? Uh - Hey.
I'm gonna take off.
- Okay.
- Unless you want me to - No.
That's okay.
- If you wanna go, that's fine.
- Okay.
- I'll, uh, check in with you tomorrow.
- Yeah.
Um, actually, listen.
You can't go around telling people that I'm trans.
Okay.
Sure.
Sorry.
It's just not your story to tell.
Got it.
Of course.
People literally get killed for being trans, so it's a really vulnerable thing to share with someone.
Oh, my God.
I'm sorry.
It's okay.
I just had to say something.
No, I'm glad you did.
Um - Let me know what happens with Jesus? - Yeah.
- Okay.
Bye.
- Bye.
Sorry.
Newscaster (on TV): Two people inside this hospital are fighting for their lives after a hit and run crash that happened over on Harbor Boulevard this afternoon.
The only witness who drove past the scene reported a Caucasian male, approximately 30 years old, driving away in an older blue sedan.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
We've put a tipline number at the bottom of your screen.
We're now reporting at St.
Michael's Hospital, this is John Nichols.
Hey.
Guys.
So he made it through the surgery.
And the doctor said that he did as well as could be hoped.
Where is he? Can we see him? Uh, not right now, honey.
He's still in the ICU.
And and it could be a few days before the swelling - Okay, baby.
Please, sit.
Sit.
- (sobbing) Okay, guys, there's nothing else for us to do right now but wait.
That's all we can do, so I think it important that you guys go home, get some rest.
Okay? No.
No, I wanna stay.
Sweetheart, you can't see him anyway.
There's no visitors in the ICU.
And you need to get some sleep, young lady.
- You all do.
- Yeah.
Okay, well, pack it up.
And listen, please, please, please, for the love of God, no more trouble.
It's the last thing your Mama and I can handle right now.
Okay? Is more drama.
Our plates are full.
Yes? I wanna hear you guys say it: no more trouble.
- Yes, Moms.
- Okay.
Thank you.
Go ahead.
I love you guys.
Love you.
(soft music plays) - Can I help you? - Yes, um I need to make a statement about an accident.
What kind of accident? A car accident.
A hit and run happened this afternoon off Harbor Boulevard.
Oh.
Take a seat.
Someone'll be right with you.
God, I just want him off those machines.
I just can't get over what the doctor said, just that, uh even if everything goes perfectly, there still could be consequences to a head injury like that.
Learning disabilities, having to learn to walk and talk again.
Personality changes, anger.
Just I just want our boy back.
- So what's up? - I thought you might wanna know about this.
This girl comes in to give a statement about the hit and run on Harbor Boulevard this afternoon.
Says she was a passenger in the car that caused it.
- Uh-huh.
- Next thing I know, she's talking about the Martha Johnson murder case.
That she was in the car with Martha's grandson, he was trying to kidnap her or something.
- Are her parents with her? - No, came in on her own.
So she left the scene of an accident.
- Does she know that's a felony? - I don't think so.
It's embedded several inches into his frontal lobe.
Yeah, I'm at an increased risk of having a seizure.
Stop hitting on my girlfriend.
You're about half my size on a good day, little man.
