Augie Malekovich.
Augie's up on the rope.
A quiet determination has given the homeland security agent-turned-financial adviser his shot at the ultimate prize.
Damn right, baby.
As long as I go out there and do the best I can, I like my chances.
[ All cheering .]
Donaldson: Chris Cheng dominates with the crossbow.
Chris Cheng.
I'm a self-taught I.
T.
geek.
Donaldson: Amazing natural talent has propelled the tech worker and recreational shooter to the final stage of the competition.
Chris: At the end of the day, it's really about whether you can shoot or not.
Donaldson: Gary shank.
His studious knowledge of firearms has made the civil war re-enactor Gary picks up another target! a force to be reckoned with.
Gary: The title is a lot more important to me than any of the prize money.
Money spends, pride is forever.
Donaldson: And Greg Littlejohn.
An unshakable resilience has brought the air force vet Man: Good job, Littlejohn, good job.
to the brink of victory.
I feel I have a good chance at winning this whole thing.
Donaldson: The time has arrived to find out History's Top Shot.
man: Oh, something smells good! Man #2: Oh, look at that! Whoo-hoo-hoo! That's what I'm talking about.
Chris: Before we started to eat, we took a few moments and we put Kyle's target up on the board.
Gary: Being two red and two blue in the final four is just kind of great.
It goes to show you how great this competition is.
It's so unpredictable, and the best shooters will actually make it to the finals.
Best wishes to all of us.
Yes, sir.
Cheers.
Best of luck to all of us.
Augie: To come out here, win this competition, I think it's a big chance for me in my life because I want my kids to look back on that and say, you know, "we can't be afraid to try things in life and put ourselves out there.
" Chris: This is where I saw myself at the beginning of the competition, and here it is.
I made it.
And I'm feeling really good, and I know the end is in sight.
Gary: I'm a firearms collector, as well as a competitor.
I own firearms as far back as 1858.
There's not a firearm you can put in my hands I wouldn't be able to tell you the history of.
So I think that is to my advantage in this competition.
Greg: Four to six years law enforcement, and then I was a weapons instructor.
In the military, I was a world champion grenadier.
I took first place.
I have a lot of experiences that a lot of the guys in this house might not have had in the past.
You don't want to put me in a pressure cooker with you.
I'm gonna win.
Come on in, shooters.
Welcome to the season 4 finale of History's "Top Shot.
" There are no more practices and no more experts.
The only thing standing between you and $100,000 are three consecutive challenges.
Here's the deal.
Losers of the first two challenges are immediately eliminated.
The remaining two marksmen will face off in one of the most colossal final challenges we have ever put together.
The winner of that walks away with History's Top Shot title, $100,000 grand prize, and a professional marksman contract.
This challenge is a "Top Shot" classic with a bit of a twist.
Normally, we run this challenge with a handgun, but this time, you'll be firing an icon of the old west the good old Winchester '73.
Gary: I see Colby standing in front of two 1873 winchesters.
I'm stoked.
I'm thinking, "I got this in the bag.
" I'm a cowboy action shooter.
I'm "corporal punishment.
" I've shot lever-action guns my entire life.
Donaldson: 50 feet downrange is a pair of dueling trees.
Each tree holds 6 steel disk targets for a total of 12 disks.
Two marksmen will compete head-to-head.
They will each be assigned a color.
Disks are orange on one side, teal on the other.
When hit, those disks are gonna flip around to the other color.
Using the Winchester '73, you will have to flip around as many targets as you can to your color, while your opponent is trying to flip those back to his color.
[ Gun cocks .]
Whoever has the most targets exposed to their color at the end of 60 seconds wins.
The loser of the first heat will go up against the loser of the second heat to see who stays and who goes home.
Here we go.
Chris, you'll be up first.
You'll be on the teal side.
You'll be taking on Augie.
You'll be over here on the orange side.
Augie: So, right now, I'm going up against Chris.
He's had a lot of good challenges lately, so he is on a little of a hot streak.
Let's do this.
Chris: In the past, it's always been with a pistol.
When Colby tells us that this is gonna be a lever-action rifle, I get really excited, because I just came out of a challenge against will where I got a lot of practice with the lever-action rifle.
Marksmen, ready, set, go! Both men grabbing the Winchester '73.
Chris hits a target.
Augie slaps one back.
Now Chris hits them.
Augie and Chris both engaging the same tree.
Chris in a bit of a lead.
Augie's gonna have to play catch-up.
Chris having to reload.
Now Augie's having to reload.
Chris has 10 targets exposed.
Augie has two.
Chris back up.
Augie cranks them back up.
Chris still leading.
Cease-fire! Cease-fire! Very good.
[ Laughs .]
Augie: The first round against Chris, I got smoked.
I mean, there's no other way to say it.
It's just such an incredible feeling to move forward in this competition and see what's next.
Chris with a dominating performance.
You are safe and moving on.
Augie, in order to continue in this competition, you're gonna have to beat the loser of the next heat.
Head back over to the bench, fellas.
Greg, Gary, step on up.
Augie: Good luck, guys.
Go get 'em.
Get it, buddy.
Greg: Lever-action something new.
I have never fired a lever-action rifle ever.
And going up against Gary, I'm going up against who's supposed to be the cat's meow with this weapon.
I am not down and out.
I'm not gonna fold.
I am gonna make Gary work his ass off to beat me.
Marksmen, ready, set, go! Donaldson: Both men loaded up the '73.
Gary's shooting across the course.
He's hitting some targets, flipping those over to teal.
Gary got a bit of a lead.
Very accurate.
Gary spot on with the Winchester, but now it's time to reload.
We are all tied up as both men reload the Winchester '73.
Who's up first? It's gonna be Gary back on the course.
He hits.
Now Greg strikes.
Gary hits again.
Greg: I noticed my tree is the only tree moving.
Gary and I are running up and down this thing like Jack rabbits.
Donaldson: Both men shooting very well.
This thing's going down to the wire! Greg: I'd shoot it pink! and he'd shoot it right back pink! Both men reloading.
Gary barely has a lead.
Greg's back up.
Now he ties it up.
Cease-fire! Cease-fire! [ Laughs .]
Wow! Greg: Good shooting.
Gentlemen, you both ended up with six targets.
So, the good news is you get to run it one more time.
[ Laughs .]
We'll reset the course, get the guns loaded up, and do this again.
Greg: Gary turned that target to make it 6-6 with .
01 of a second left on the clock.
.
01 of a second? God! Donaldson: Coming up on "Top Shot" There is nothing better.
I was so geeked up.
Pink, pink, pink, just going to town.
Donaldson: Gary ties it up.
I loaded one round.
Cease-fire! Cease-fire! A rematch between Greg and Gary.
Greg: There is nothing better.
I was so geeked up, full of adrenaline.
Marksmen, ready, set, go! Gary gets some good hits on target.
Greg also effective with the Winchester.
We start out pink, pink, pink, just going to town, running up and down the tree again, running up and down.
Donaldson: Gary's got a bit of a lead here.
Gary's out of ammo.
He's gonna have to reload.
Greg catches back up and passes Gary.
Now both men are reloading.
Greg has eight targets flipped to his side.
Gary has four, but he's back up on the range.
Gary ties it up.
Now Greg's back on the course.
Gary with a bit of a lead.
Oh! Gary leads by one.
Now we're tied up again! Both men reloading! This thing's going down to the wire one more time! I loaded one round, came up, missed.
Greg shoots, misses.
Cease-fire! Cease-fire! Oh! Man! Good shooting, brother.
Good job.
Heck yeah.
Oh, crusher.
He won, 5-7.
Donaldson: Gary, you're moving on, brother.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Gary, head over to the bench.
Greg, stay up here.
Augie, come back up.
Come on, aug.
Augie: Greg has been hot and cold the entire competition.
Sometimes, he's done really well.
Sometimes, he's done not so well.
I'm kind of hoping he does not so well this time.
Here we go, guys.
Marksmen, ready, set, go! Both men loaded up with the Winchester.
Greg strikes first.
He takes a bit of a lead.
Now Augie's coming back.
We're tied up! Greg: Me and Augie are going back and forth.
Augie figured out what he needed to do to hit his targets to make a race of this.
Donaldson: Augie now takes the lead from Greg.
These guys duking it out.
It's a battle, you know? They call them battling trees, you know, for a reason.
That's what we're doing.
Donaldson: Greg's having to reload.
Now Augie's out of ammo.
Both men reloading.
Gary: Come on, Greg.
And we are completely tied up as they reload the Winchester '73.
Augie's back up.
He hits the target.
Augie takes the lead.
Now Greg's coming back.
It is neck and neck, and it's really exciting to be watching both of these really great shooters just duking it out.
Both men very accurate.
Augie's out again.
Greg's out.
He's having to reload.
Greg's got the lead.
Augie's got to come back.
Cease-fire! Cease-fire! [ Exhales deeply .]
Augie: I got it with my last bullet.
Colby says "time.
" I set the rifle down.
I realized how close it was and that I did lose.
Donaldson: Nice shooting, gentlemen.
Greg, you're still in this thing.
Rejoin these guys over here.
Good job.
Good job.
Good shooting.
Greg: I'm excited to be in the top three.
If I'm meant to win this thing, I will.
I'm gonna put the best of Greg Littlejohn out there I possibly can.
Augie, you have proven yourself a worthy competitor.
Unfortunately, you have fired your last shot.
You now have been eliminated from "Top Shot.
" Say goodbye to these three guys on your way out.
Augie: You know, I came here wanting to win and expecting to win, so though I got this far, it is a little disappointing that I didn't win the whole show.
Brother, it's been fun.
Good luck.
Oh! Good luck.
You know, as a financial adviser, there's a little saying that it's time in the market, not timing of the market.
So when you're down, you can't stay down.
You got to get back up, brush yourself off, and, you know, keep going.
Greg: Great guy.
Chris: Yep.
The quiet competitor.
We are now down to three.
You guys can head back to the house, get a good night's sleep.
Tomorrow brings the last hellacious test before the final monumental challenge.
See you guys then.
Good job.
Thank you, Colby.
Whew! Good shooting, brother, good shooting.
Right here.
Good stuff, guys.
[ Pounding .]
Here's to a good shooter.
Gary and Chris are not gonna be an easy challenge.
Not one of them can you shrug off.
Final three, boys.
Chris: Final three.
Can you imagine we're actually here already? I am very big into history.
I do believe that's what defines us.
So some of the things I've done are a lot of living history and civil war re-enactments.
Firearms are history, and they actually tell a story as you see the evolution of firearms throughout history.
It really doesn't matter what your background is and how much training you may have been through.
Shooting is shooting, and it's something that anyone can pick up and be good at.
But here on "Top Shot," it really is about who is the best.
And we'll see what happens.
We're the last three standing.
Way to go, guys.
Good stuff.
Rock out.
Gary: As we're walking up to the challenge, I notice an old Western saloon sitting there with all kinds of great interactive targets.
This is what I've been dreaming about since day one.
We've kind of talked about it sitting around the house that that's what they've done every season that we've seen.
I know what's in store in the back of my mind, and I'm excited to do it.
Afternoon, Colby.
What's up? This saloon has become a "Top Shot" tradition.
The weapon, the target, the distance it is all your call.
There are six weapons from previous challenges to choose from.
The Lee-Enfield The m14 The Benelli m4 The Browning buck mark The m1911 And the fn five-seven.
This "Top Shot" classic is played a lot like the game of horse.
The contestant picks a weapon, chooses a target, and calls out a distance.
Make the shot, you get a point.
Whether you make that shot or not, the other two shooters also have the opportunity to try to make that shot.
If they do, they get a point.
The shooter who ends up with the fewest points is sent home.
Greg, you're gonna start things off.
Chris, you'll be shooting second, which means, Gary, you're bringing up the rear not a bad place to be in this challenge.
All right, fellas, belly up to the bar.
Let's do this.
Greg: Colby draws me first.
I'm excited.
I get my first pick what I want to shoot.
I just think it might give me a little bit of an upper hand.
Get in there, get a point on, put some pressure.
Donaldson: Coming up on "Top Shot" There's your rifle.
Greg: I think I can hit this target.
Donaldson: In four seasons, I don't remember anyone calling out a shot this difficult.
Are you out of your birdcage? All right fellows, belly up to the bar.
Let's do this.
Greg, you're up first.
What'll it be? It's gonna be the m14 Okay.
the jar of peanuts, at 200 yards.
Chris: Nice.
Go big or go home.
There's your rifle.
Greg: I think I can hit this target.
I'm very confident with the m14 because the other guys are more pistol shooters.
I just think it might give me a little bit of an upper hand.
Marksman, ready, set, go! Gary: I'm thinking this is gonna be a pretty difficult shot.
It's gonna be hard to see, for one, and it's gonna be a very small margin of error at that kind of yardage.
Oof.
Greg: I missed.
It's ridiculous.
I have no excuses, nothing.
Donaldson: Chris gonna see if he can take it out with the m14.
Oh.
Greg: Gary's coming up.
Gary has seen both of our impacts.
He might adjust his aiming point.
[ Clicks .]
out at 200 yards.
Greg: He goes high, as well.
[ Exhales deeply .]
Thank God.
All right, Chris, it's your turn to pick your poison.
All righty.
We're gonna go with the Benelli m4 The shotgun.
with a slug.
Okay.
We're gonna go 75 yards.
All right.
We're gonna do the jar of bolts and washers.
Mason jar of hardware, Offhand, standing.
Oh, he's calling it offhand, no support.
Okay.
Let's do it.
Chris: I decided to make the shot freehand because that just ups the ante even more.
In four seasons of "Top Shot saloon," I don't remember anyone calling out a shot this difficult.
Good luck.
Are you out of your birdcage? Offhand, standing.
This is absurd.
So, Chris misses.
I'm not surprised.
Gary, what'd you think when Chris called this shot? Think he's nuts.
Man, that thing was hard to see.
How the heck were you gonna hit it? Oh! Chris: Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Just to the right.
Gary almost pulls off the amazing shot.
[ Greg sighs .]
Nope.
Chris: After my shotgun shot, I'm thinking we need to start putting some points on the board, and I'm expecting Gary to choose something a little bit more reasonable.
But Gary one-ups me.
We're gonna go with the remington 1911, we're gonna go from 75 yards, and we're gonna go with that orange juice, offhand.
What is the matter with you guys? I have no idea.
I picked a realistic shot.
We make it, we're gonna be legendary.
This is a trick shot.
This is something that you have to train and repeat over and over and over again before you can get it down.
At this point, we know we need to get down to business.
We're trying to make impossible shots.
It's insane.
The weapons are disappearing.
We're halfway through with this thing, and you guys are all sitting on goose eggs.
We have $100,000 and a pro shooting contract on the line.
It's time to step up.
There we go.
I'm gonna go with the Lee-Enfield rifle at 100 yards At the jar of cheese balls.
All right.
The only rifle left the Lee-Enfield.
Nerves are ungodly.
Adrenaline's pumping.
There is zero room for error.
[Bleep.]
Chris: I'm expecting Greg to nail this rifle shot, but he opens up the door for both me and Gary to put a point on the board and start putting some pressure on.
Donaldson: Chris hits the base.
Finally, we get a point on the board.
I am feeling really good that the pressure is now on Gary, and we'll see how Gary does.
This is incredible.
I have a 1-0-0 lead, and I'm up next.
All right, Chris, what's it gonna be? Let's do the 22 pistol Browning buck mark.
the glass of Jacks.
All right.
Let's do 35 feet.
Nice shot.
Chris picks up a second point.
[ Exhales deeply .]
I own a Browning buck mark.
I'm gonna be able to shoot it That's a big-enough target.
And whiff.
I don't know what happened.
Gary fails to shatter the glass.
Greg: It's down to one shot at a glassful of Jacks and a ball.
Don't miss, Greg.
Donaldson: Greg also misses with the buck mark.
Okay, gentlemen, this is where we're at.
Chris, you might as well have a beverage.
You're safe.
Yeah, give me the beer behind the bar.
You don't even need to shoot in this final round.
This is a shootout between you, Greg, and Gary, all right? And I believe it's your call, isn't it, Gary? It is.
The last gun up on the board's the fnh five-seven.
Tel me what distance you want and what target you want to shoot at.
Why don't we just do and we'll go with the cherries.
You got it.
Little maraschino-cherry jar, Now it's getting down to real business.
It's myself and Greg.
He's been to so many eliminations, and he can handle the pressure.
Now I got to see if I can.
Oh! I missed my target and I know I just opened the door for Greg to earn himself a spot in the final two.
Your window, buddy.
Take it out.
Donaldson: Here's your chance, Greg.
Greg: This time, I'm backed into a corner that's deeper than I care to be in.
Whew! That's a hit.
Good shot, Greg.
Wow! What a turnaround from lows of lows to highs of highs.
Chris and Greg, congratulations.
You are moving on.
Gary, you've had a hell of a run, but you have fired your last shot.
You've been eliminated from "Top Shot.
" Take a minute to say goodbye to these guys.
Fellas, good luck.
Gary: I'm proud to have made it this far in "Top Shot.
" It's a great opportunity to go out there and give it your all.
And to be able to survive this long in this competition is such an honor for myself, and I'm just very proud to have done it.
And we are now down to two.
Let me assure you, we have saved the biggest and baddest for last.
This time tomorrow, guys, one of you is gonna be $100,000 richer.
You can head back to the house for the very last time.
We'll see you at the challenge tomorrow.
Wow! There's a lot on the line.
Whew! I'm looking forward to go head-to-head against Greg and see who comes out on top.
Donaldson: Coming up on "Top Shot" It is time to prove your mettle as a marksman.
I need to really focus and bring my best game.
I'm a nervous wreck.
Thank you, sir.
So, Greg and I are going to the finals.
Who would have thought? Greg: We are the last two standing, and everybody thought we were the weakest two shooters in the house because of that one challenge.
Here's to the vaquero.
[ Laughs .]
Oh, brutal.
Go all the way back to the first episode.
Donaldson: Chris Cheng can win this for the red team.
He hits his first target.
Ohh! Man: This is it, Greg! Greg: Me and Chris were the last two men standing on that podium, needing perfect runs with the vaquero.
Donaldson: That's it! Red team wins! Greg: Tomorrow's challenge is the finale.
That's awesome.
I was a military weapons instructor.
I'm a federal law-enforcement officer.
And I'm going to do my best to win tomorrow.
And I will be shocked if I don't.
Chris: After watching an episode of "Top Shot," I tell my friends that, "hey, I think I'm gonna audition for season 4.
" And they all look at me and say, "Chris, do you think you're really that good?" And I look at them and I say, "well, I'm not sure, but trying out for 'Top Shot' is sure the best way of finding out.
" I'm an I.
T.
guy and I'm behind a computer all day long, and I don't have many opportunities to shoot.
Not having any police training or military or law-enforcement training, the fact that I ended up in the final it really proves to me that I can compete with the best.
I would love to be able to say, "I'm History's Top Shot.
" Words can't explain some of the feelings that are going through my body right now.
I'm just gonna do what I do best, and that's shoot.
Chris: Greg looks calm and collected, and I'm hoping that his nerves may get the best of him, like they have in previous challenges.
Donaldson: Come on in, fellas.
Chris and Greg, welcome to the final and ultimate "Top Shot" challenge.
As you can see, we have an audience for you guys here today.
Your fellow shooters who reached the individual stage are all here to cheer you on.
Hello.
[ Gabriela laughs .]
Why, hello.
Augie: Chris he had no formal training or anything like that, but Chris deserves to be here because he's been pretty steady and consistent throughout the whole competition.
Also watching today is one of bass pro shops' professional shooters, world-champion shotgunner Allen Treadwell.
[ Applause .]
How you doing, Allen? Hey, Colby.
Thanks for joining us.
It's a pleasure to be here.
I'd like to wish the final two contestants the best of luck in the finale.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
The final challenge is a collection of the most intense, grueling challenges you guys have faced thus far in the competition all rolled into one.
Stretching across the range the size of a football field are seven side-by-side shooting stations.
This will be a head-to-head race.
You must knock out all the targets on one station before moving on to the next.
On my signal, you'll take off from the starting line.
You'll run to station 1, where you'll find the Kentucky flintlock pistol.
You'll have to hit two 1-gallon jugs at 25 feet.
Once you do that, you're on to the second station.
There, you'll use the good old 1860 Henry rifle to knock down two 3-part bull's-eyes 50 feet downrange.
Nail those targets, you're moving on.
At the third station, you'll shoot the webley mark vi pistol to take out nine 16-ounce jars on a moving grid At the fourth station, you'll use the colt peacemaker to score a perfect run on two rows of six targets.
One row has 10-inch targets, the other 8-inch targets.
[ Gunshots .]
Remember, you miss a target, the ones that you've already hit in that row will pop back up.
This was a challenge you guys both struggled with.
This is your chance for redemption.
At the fifth station, you'll find a strykezone 350 crossbow, which you'll have to load and fire at three 8-inch targets on rotating arms.
At the sixth station, you'll get into a prone position to fire the Browning automatic rifle at two 8-inch exploding targets downrange.
One of them's at 125 and the other at 150 yards.
Smoke those, and you're off to the seventh and final station.
Here, you will employ milcor's m32a1 grenade launcher to engage two exploding targets The first person to successfully make it through the entire course wins the title of History's Top Shot.
Let's do this.
Shooters, move to your starting positions.
Going into today's challenge, I'm a nervous wreck.
My heart won't slow down.
I need to really focus and bring my best game.
Donaldson: Coming up on "Top Shot" Go! Chris: I don't think you could make a challenge any closer or any more exciting than this.
Donaldson: No question one of the best finals we have ever had on "Top Shot.
" Chris and Greg, the moment of truth has arrived.
It all boils down to this the final challenge.
Seven stations, seven weapons.
It ends with the first to explode their last target.
Here's what's at stake a contract to be a professional marksman for bass pro shops, a $100,000 grand prize, and, of course, the title of History's Top Shot.
Here we go, fellas.
On my call.
Marksmen, ready, set, go! [ All cheering .]
Greg and Chris making it to the first station the Kentucky flintlock pistols.
At the first station, my heart is racing.
I just need to stay calm and make this shot.
Donaldson: Both men loading up.
As long as it takes you to load the Kentucky flintlock pistol, making an accurate shot at this first station could be the difference.
Gabriela: Yes! Chris hits on his first attempt.
Greg takes out his first target.
Both men getting it done.
Greg: Chris was quicker at loading.
I've just got to stay calm.
If you get worked up, you're gonna fall behind, and you can't do that.
Donaldson: Chris very quick on the reload.
He's already back on the course, engaging his second target.
And he hits that.
[ Gun cocks .]
Chris Cheng now engaging with the 1860 Henry.
Greg takes out his target.
Chris has already hit 2 of his 6 targets at the second station.
Chris takes out his third and his fourth.
Chris, two targets remaining with the Henry.
He gets one.
And the other.
Greg: Chris finishes.
I still have four targets up.
Uh-oh.
Donaldson: Chris already through the second station.
Greg's still struggling to finish his targets.
He better hurry if he plans to catch up.
Donaldson: Greg now closes out the second station.
He comes over to the webley.
Both men tied up, engaging the third shooting station.
I missed my first few shots, but then I quickly settle in and start hitting targets.
Donaldson: Chris first to strike with the webley.
Takes out three targets in a row before he has to reload.
Greg now takes out his first target with the webley mark vi.
He's having to reload.
Chris leads by two targets on the third station.
He's already back up and engaging.
Connects on that shot.
with the webley.
Takes out a third target.
Chris has six targets down make that seven targets.
Two targets remaining for Chris.
Greg takes out his third and his fourth.
And his fifth! Greg catching up on the third station here.
Two targets remaining on the third station.
Takes out one of those.
Greg: Here, Chris is down to one.
I have four left.
I shove six rounds in.
Donaldson: Now trying to clean up his final targets.
Greg now back on the board.
Chris has one target left.
Can he take it out? We're all tied up at the third station! Greg now having to reload.
Chris takes it out.
He's moving on to the fourth station, the colt peacemaker.
Man: Man.
Good call, Greg.
I still have a decent lead on Littlejohn, but he has closed the gap.
Donaldson: Both men now at the fourth station with the colt peacemaker.
We are completely tied up! They are halfway through the fourth station.
Both men knocking Both men reloading.
This could not be any closer halfway through this challenge.
I know both of us want clean runs, and we are going to town on those plates.
I'm like, "oh, my God.
Who's gonna win this?" This is too close.
Donaldson: Six targets remaining on the fourth shooting station.
