NCIS New Orleans (2014) s04e14 Episode Script
A New Dawn
1 (upbeat jazz playing) It's Erica.
(speaking Arabic) I can't talk long; I think someone's after me.
(screams) (both grunting) (train horn blaring) (screaming) NCIS:New Orleans 4x14 A New Dawn (screams) Boom, boom, boom, boom Bang, bang, bang, bang Boom, boom, boom, boom How, how, how, how Hey, hey You gotta come on.
TAYLOR: New Orleans is a city rich in tradition, rich in culture.
It's also rich in corruption.
Which is why this special election is a chance to move past the same old way of doing things, as my opponent Mr.
Butler champions, and instead move forward into a new dawn.
One that includes all citizens, not just the select few who have profited at the city's expense for too long.
That's why I need your vote.
Thank you.
WOMAN: Please, ladies and gentlemen, let's thank the two candidates for joining us here today at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel.
(indistinct chatter) Latest polling shows us ahead in Lakeview, but Butler's leading Uptown and in the Garden District.
This is why I keep saying that we can't just rely on the media.
Volunteers have got to go door-to-door, too.
It's hard to get anybody to go door-to-door right now.
City's packed.
Why they would pick a special election during Mardi Gras-- what were they thinking? Lower turnout.
Rig Butler for the win.
It's why we need a new mayor, Loretta.
Please don't tell me we've got a case.
We got a case.
Thought I'd pick you up on the way.
(quietly): Sorry.
(sighs) Arthur, I'm counting on you.
We've only got two days, and Zahra needs every vote she can get.
I know, I know.
Brought chicory.
Thought you might need some.
It's got rum in it? (chuckles) Kidding, sort of.
(laughs) My support.
Thank you.
Hi.
WADE: Ah, this is hard, Dwayne.
I can't do two jobs at once.
I don't know what I was thinking.
You were thinking about more than just yourself, as usual.
Getting Zahra elected, moving past the damage Hamilton's done is a worthy cause.
Why would anyone want to reelect someone like Hamilton again is beyond me.
Old money and influence goes deep in this town, you know that.
Makes change that much more difficult and that much more important.
Dwayne, Dr.
Wade.
Haven't seen you around in a while.
What brings you here? Wait, don't tell me that you're a Taylor supporter, you'll break my heart.
(laughs) I'm a federal agent, Ron.
You know I'm not allowed to take sides.
Come on, Dwayne, who are you kidding? We both know who brought down Hamilton and why.
You know Vernon Butler, don't you? Of course.
Yeah.
Used to work for Dwayne's daddy, didn't you? That's right.
Ah.
Heard old Cassius is out of prison.
Yeah.
How's he doing, anyway? I wouldn't know.
Excuse us.
Doesn't Cook own half the TV stations in this town? Yeah.
Supposed to be unbiased.
Talk about old money and influence.
All the reason to get Zahra elected, sooner the better.
Chris, Gregorio, morning.
What do we got? Train versus human, never ends well.
Victim's Chief Erica Croft, cryptologic technician interpreter based out of D.
C.
Engineer said he came through on the 6:55.
Said it all happened so fast, she stumbled onto the tracks.
Thought it was just another drunken Mardi Gras accident.
GREGORIO: Except Erica wasn't here to play.
I just got off the phone with her C.
O.
Said she came into town to polish up on her Arabic at the refugee center down on Lakefront.
CTIs translate foreign communications, intercept counterterrorism Intel.
What are you thinking, King? What if this wasn't an accident? LASALLE: Then it's possible it's not a training mission, either.
SEBASTIAN: Well, it definitely wasn't an accident.
Found what could be the victim's phone in the gravel over there.
Probably slid away during the fight.
In addition to that, I found, uh, two sets of shoe prints scuffling in the dirt by the tracks.
Uh, I also found blood and hair on the ground and on the pipes.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's not just the victim's.
Means if Erica was in a fight, she could have been pushed.
Yeah, I'll run DNA, try to ID the second person.
Uh, by the way, where is, uh, Percy? Yeah, where's Percy? I don't know.
She's taking some personal time.
What does that mean? She okay? Yeah, sure, she's fine.
You know, personal's personal.
PRIDE: Why don't we just, uh, focus on the case.
We need to find out who would want to kill a CTI specialist and why.
You afraid she might have gotten wind of a terrorist attack? I don't know.
But no denying that the tricentennial Mardi Gras is a potentially prime target.
Especially with hundreds of events going on all around the city.
And an upcoming election.
Loretta, I got this.
I know that you're swamped, but, uh Don't worry.
I am going to do your autopsy first.
Just keep the chicory coming.
You got it.
Chris, Gregorio, why don't you head over to the refugee center.
See if you can find out who Erica was talking with.
Keep a low profile.
Don't want to presume guilt, and don't want any of them to be more nervous than they already are just being here.
Copy that.
Yeah.
Sebastian, with me.
Need you to track Erica's contacts while I get Patton to see if he can pick up any local terrorist chatter.
Come on, people.
Let's learn things fast! MAN: Many refugees from many countries stay here.
The church welcomes all who need.
Although I specifically work with those from Syria.
How many are here? Uh, it changes, but usually around 20 to 30.
Erica befriended many of them.
They helped her with her Arabic and she helped them cope, feel safe.
News of her death will hit them hard.
We're not here to cast suspicion, Mr.
Petro, but we do need to try and find out who wanted Erica Croft killed and why.
Which casts suspicion, whether you mean to or not.
They know how they're perceived, Agent Lasalle.
They know how fear and ignorance can cause many to assume they're all radicals, terrorists, but I can assure you they are not.
Okay, but when a victim who specializes in intercepting counterintelligence is murdered, we have to check it out.
Yeah, especially when that victim was apparently on the phone with somebody here just before she died.
Sebastian just traced her last call to a burner phone that was purchased by the church.
Call ended abruptly at 6:55.
We provide refugees with cell phones for emergencies, also so we can stay in contact if they get lost.
Yeah, well, we got to find one of them because now they're a potential witness.
(knocking on door) Noora! It's Petro.
You sure you got the right person? If your agent's right about the serial number, the phone's assigned to Noora.
NCIS.
They're not here to hurt you, Noora.
They just want to ask about Erica.
No, I can't talk.
You don't have a choice.
(Noora yelling in Arabic) Freeze.
Freeze.
LASALLE: Back up, back up.
I'm going after him.
GREGORIO: Don't move.
Stay back, Petro.
He got away.
Why are you arresting her? One, because that was her son, Sharif.
And two, check out the cabinet.
Jihadi flag.
Yeah.
Keep looking.
Reading up on making bombs.
Looks like Erica really did stumble across something.
Yeah, and if that's true, then it means we got a terrorist on the loose.
(crowd cheering, music plays) LASALLE: It's hard for us to believe you didn't know this was in your closet.
I'm telling you the truth.
I did not know.
Why would I lie? I don't want to be deported.
Mrs.
Saadi, being deported's the least of your problems.
A counterterrorism specialist calls you, gets killed.
LASALLE: Then we come and knock on your door, your son runs and we find out he's researching bombs.
GREGORIO: The only way to help yourself is to help us stop whatever it is Sharif's planning.
I'm telling you the truth.
Sharif is not planning to hurt anybody.
Well, it looks like he hurt Erica.
Killed her when she found him out.
She was my friend.
Erica called me because she was worried about Sharif.
Worried that people were trying to force him to do something he did not want to do.
Then why'd he run from us? He was afraid.
We all are.
You judge us with your eyes, you decide before you know.
Sharif hates the radicals.
They killed his father, my husband.
That's why we came here.
Was Sharif with you when Erica called? No.
Mrs.
Saadi, if what you say is true, Sharif's involved in something, and if it's a threat, we have to do everything in our power to stop it.
Which is why we need you to help us find Sharif.
Not only so we can stop the attack, but to save him, too.
Save him to what? Arrest him? Take him away from me so I have nothing? Sharif is all I have left.
I will not help you find my son.
PRIDE: Keep me posted, Raymond.
Yeah.
Every agency should be coordinating Intel right now.
I'm hoping you got something out of the mother, because DHS and FBI haven't heard anything.
Patton not able to pick up on local chatter? No.
Could mean that Sharif's in this alone, or Or whoever he's involved with is done talking, and the attack's imminent.
Sharif's mom give you anything to go on? She's scared.
Doesn't trust us.
Yeah, but I get this sense that she wants to-- she just doesn't know how.
Problem is, her son's life just might depend on her trusting us.
Not to mention, we got to figure out where the attack's gonna be.
Well, with all the Mardi Gras events happening, that's gonna be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Only way to figure out what's really going on is to find Sharif.
Or his recruiter.
I mean, if the mom's right and Erica called and said Sharif was being forced into it, he can't be working alone.
This kid loses his father, flees from a war-torn country, he's lost, angry-- certainly fits the profile of somebody who's open to being recruited.
Yeah, but we have zero leads to follow.
We got Noora.
She's got to know where Sharif is.
Right.
But I get the feeling she's not gonna trust anyone with a badge, King.
Then we have to find somebody who doesn't have one.
Funny, I was just about to call you, Dwayne.
Okay, but first I need to (phone rings) Uh, hold that thought.
Arthur, I'm sorry, I can't talk to you right now.
What? No.
Zahra absolutely must get to that meeting.
Call Estes.
Use a police escort if you have to.
Okay.
Sorry about that.
Uh, so, where were we? Ah.
The victim.
Uh So, I still haven't been able to differentiate any of the injuries from the train or the attacker.
But fortunately, Erica's lungs were a bit more forthcoming.
How so? I found this unusual tar-based substance in her left alveoli.
Trachea, too.
Meaning? Meaning that she must have inhaled it within an hour of her death-- otherwise her system would have absorbed it.
Metabolized.
Should help us narrow down Erica's last whereabouts.
Yeah, likely help us ID her killer, too, if she crossed paths with him there.
Any chance you can expedite the? SEBASTIAN: The analysis? Oh, yeah.
We're already on it.
After all, we got a campaign to run.
And by "we," I mean I mean you.
Sorry.
I'm just really caught up in all the excitement, you know? And stress, anxiety, pressure.
Sebastian! All right.
Dokha.
That's (clears throat) that's what was found in Erica's lungs.
Do-Dokha.
Uh, it's a rare tobacco blend.
It's more commonly found in the Middle East.
The high levels of concentration suggest she inhaled it in a closed room.
You mean like a car or apartment? Hookah lounge.
EinCarim Cafe.
It's a block away from the tracks.
We saw it when we were doing our perimeter search.
Ok-Okay, go check it out.
Thanks, Sebastian.
(chuckles) Oh.
Sorry, Dwayne.
I know you called me.
Was there something you needed? Just your help saving the city.
If you got a minute.
NOORA: You don't look like police.
Are you? (chuckles): Far from it.
(sighs): Ah, I hate guns, violence.
Partly, I suppose, because I see too much of it every day.
I'm a doctor.
Coroner.
But I don't understand.
Why did the agents call you? What do you want from me? I don't want to see your son ending up on one of my tables.
And believe it or not, nor do the agents.
And that's why they called me.
Uh, would you like some? Tea, maybe? We had a bakery in Damascus, my husband and I.
We were hoping Sharif would take it over one day.
Noora, I'm not gonna lie to you.
Time is not your friend here.
If what you say is true, then both your son and the city's in terrible trouble-- unless you help the agents find him.
But they will take him away from me forever.
Perhaps.
But at least no one else will be hurt, and Sharif will live.
Can you say the same for those who are forcing him? Do you think that they will not sacrifice his life for their cause? I have a cause, too, one that I believe in with all my heart, but one that is the opposite of those using your son.
I want to elect a mayor who believes in including all the people, not just the privileged and those in power.
But those from everywhere, no matter who they are or what they are.
Like you and Sharif.
You came to this country for a chance at a better life for you and Sharif.
Help us find Sharif.
Help us stop the attack by helping us find your son.
Don't get a lot of Navy types in here.
Not exactly sure what you're looking for.
How about a gas mask? Just need to see your surveillance tapes.
You said you were open 24 hours a day, right? Yeah, but we just keep the last seven days on cloud storage.
Only need to see around 6:00 this morning.
MAN (speaking Arabic): Sharif.
We were actually pretty busy this morning.
Not unusual for Mardi Gras.
Late-night partiers, early morning risers, businessmen.
What time did you say again? Just keep rewinding.
We'll tell you when to stop.
So, when's Percy coming back? I don't know.
She said she needed some time to think.
Think about what? Life.
Is this the time or the place? It's just a question.
GREGORIO: Wait.
Stop right there.
That's Erica 14 minutes before she died.
Hey, can you highlight that grid? LASALLE: She a regular here? First time I've seen her.
What is she doing? She's just sitting there by herself.
I think that's Sharif behind her.
Looks like she's eavesdropping.
GREGORIO: Sharif's trying to stop the guy from following her.
Could be Erica's killer.
We just passed that guy out there.
I heard him talking about Sharif.
He's gone.
Yeah, well, we'd better find him fast, because if King doesn't find Sharif either All right, I'll take the pipe for prints.
NOORA: He should be here any minute.
You promise you will not arrest my son? Loretta? Noora, now, we talked about this.
Dwayne has a job to do, a city to protect-- he has to take Sharif in for questioning.
But if you're right about him being innocent, then neither one of you have anything to worry about.
In fact, if he ends up helping us stop the attack Then Sharif will be a hero.
And I guarantee Mayor Taylor will do everything she can to help you both become permanent residents.
If she gets elected.
She learns fast.
I see that.
Sharif! (speaking Arabic) Mama.
Mama.
(both speaking Arabic) Thanks for helping out.
I-I know you're crazed right now (tires screeching) Noora! (Noora screaming, men shouting in Arabic) (tires screeching) (crying) (panting) Are you all right? Sharif! You have to stop them! You have to save him! He said they were going to make him kill your mayor! Wait, Zahra? Appreciate anything you can do.
BOLO's out on the van.
Didn't have any plates.
- I need you to pull surveillance.
- First things first.
- Are you all right? Wade? - Yeah.
We're both fine.
Noora's in shock.
Loretta's gonna ride with her to the hospital so she won't be alone.
Poor girl.
She's probably scared to death.
She is.
But Noora was right about Sharif-- he's not doing any of this voluntarily.
They forced him into the van.
But he wouldn't let 'em hurt his mother.
That's pretty consistent.
I mean, clearly, he was trying to save Erica this morning at the bar, too.
Obviously not a radical-- ISIS is known to seduce prospects without knowing their cause.
Once they get onto it and want out, it's too late.
Yep, forced recruitment.
Could be Sharif had no idea what he was getting himself into.
Doesn't change the fact that they're forcing him to go through with the attack anyway.
Yeah, well, it's not just any attack.
They're targeting Mayor Taylor.
Wait a second.
What? Noora said Sharif kept yelling that to her as they took him.
Does Wade know? Yeah.
She's counting on us to save the mayor and Sharif now.
The only way to do that is to stop the attack before it happens, and we can't find Sharif's recruiter or Then we'd better figure it out.
According to Noora, she contacted her son on a messaging app.
Terrorists had to hack into it to know that Sharif was gonna be here.
I'll try to get Patton to trace it.
I'll pull surveillance.
There's plenty of cameras around the square, help us find the van.
And then get Sebastian out here, all right? He needs to turn this place upside down.
Tire tracks, trace evidence.
We need something.
Okay, but where are you going? Someone needs to warn the mayor.
All right, Dwayne, I canceled on a veterans group, which no doubt my opponent's gonna want to hammer me on, so what was so important you couldn't tell me over the phone? Someone's trying to kill you, Zahra.
TAYLOR: What? The first black female mayor this town's ever had? Somebody who wants to change its corrupt ways? Hell, there's probably a long list of people who want to kill me just for running my mouth.
Not people.
Not people.
Zahra.
ISIS.
ISIS? Are you sure about this? What I'm sure about is a local refugee is being forced into it.
He was taken, he warned his mother that you were the target.
That doesn't make sense.
A terrorist attack's supposed to have some sort of ideology behind it.
Why would killing me? New Orleans is a high-profile target.
You know that.
And for all the reasons you just said, you are the high-profile center of it all.
So, what do you want me to do? We don't have a choice.
You have to stop campaigning.
What?! No way.
Zahra, it's too dangerous.
I said no, damn it.
If I stop now, I'll let down everyone who's fought so hard to make this city better, to change it for the better.
I've come too far.
This city's come too far to back down now.
My team's working around the clock.
We're doing all we can to stop the attack, but the only way to really protect you The election's one day away.
One day.
I have a speech in Jackson Square in an hour, strategy session with my staff, then dinner You can't with donors, phone calls, knocking on doors, a rally in Laketown in the morning.
Dwayne Pride, I'll be dammed if I'm gonna let anyone try and scare me off.
You understand? I say something funny or? No.
No, you just reminded me why I need to do everything I can to help get you elected.
All right, now, thank you.
And don't forget to vote.
All right.
I'll be right there.
I'll be waiting.
Pride, where's she headed? Where are you going? I'm going to protect her.
And I'm counting on you all to figure out how to stop the attack.
Whoa.
Hold up.
You're putting yourself in the line of fire, too? I believe in what she's fighting for, so I'm fighting with her.
Besides, I know who's after her, which means being by Zahra's side might be the only way to save her if you can't.
You find out anything about Sharif or the van? Surveillance came back empty, but we're still waiting on Sebastian's forensics.
Yeah, Patton's still trying to trace who hacked into Noora's message app.
Afraid I don't have an ID on that yet, but I do have one on the guy who was sucking on that water pipe.
Sharif's recruiter? Yeah, but nothing I found indicated he's with ISIS, though.
Check it out.
Yossuf Abbas, born in Amman, but he's a U.
S.
citizen who's not even on the FBI's terrorist watch list.
Still doesn't mean he's not ISIS.
I mean, we don't know every embed.
Yeah, but we do know they've got Sharif and they're targeting Mayor Taylor.
I'll check her itinerary, see if I can't narrow down likely vulnerabilities.
You stay on Sharif, Abbas and the van.
Keep me posted.
Okay.
Not exactly the way I planned on celebrating my Mardi Gras, worrying about saving Pride's life, too.
Yeah, we need more, fast.
All right, call Sebastian.
See if he found anything from when they grabbed Sharif.
Sebastian.
Aah, God! Give us something good.
All right.
Well, two things.
One is I'm turning off auto answer because that just scared the hell out of me.
And two, I might have actually found something.
You find the van? No, but I might have a lead on where it was before the attack.
Mineral deposits left behind by the skid marks showed trace evidence of nitrogen, phosphorus, magnesium, ammonium nitrate Fertilizer? Yeah, and I'll take bomb-making materials for a thousand, Alex, because I found hydrocarbons mixed in with it, too.
So they're making a fertilizer bomb.
Has all the earmarks of one, yeah.
And if so, they'll have to place it close to the mayor before they ignite it.
Yeah, but there's no way they could drive in with a car or truck, not with all the street closures and security.
Unless the bomb is already in position.
Sounds like a pretty specific group of materials.
You think you can trace where the fertilizer came from? Will do.
Find the fertilizer, find the terrorists? Got to hope.
It's our only chance of stopping the attack before it's too late.
(upbeat jazz playing) LASALLE: Last fertilizer plant.
This has got to be it.
GREGORIO: If not, we're back to square one.
LASALLE: We don't have time for square one.
It's Election Day.
We've got a mayor to save.
Think we found the van.
Yeah, obviously trying to cover their tracks, which means the attack's still in motion.
No sign of Sharif.
Well, the van's still smoking.
They got to be close.
(engine starts) Oh, my God.
That's Sharif.
Yeah, in a boat loaded full of explosives.
Any idea where this canal leads to? Yeah, and it ain't good.
(birds squawking) (cheering and applause) It took us 300 years, but we're almost there, aren't we? Aren't we? (crowd cheering) And who are we? We're French, Spanish, American, African, Indian, and we're proud of that.
(phone rings) And we can no longer allow the privileged few, 'cause I don't see them out here today.
I don't see them.
Find something, Chris? Yeah.
Are you at the rally? Yeah, we're right in the middle of it.
We're proud of that New Or Why? Because Sharif is headed your way in a boat loaded full of explosives, ready to blow everything up to kingdom come.
Sharif-- a-are you sure? Yeah.
Gregorio saw him, too, King.
You want me to call the Coast Guard? To corrupt who we really are anymore No, it's too late.
Get everybody out of here.
Everyone, we need to leave the park right now.
Safely but quickly.
Please.
Get the mayor off the stage right now.
Get her to safety.
Hurry.
Loretta, go with her.
Go, go, go! What the hell is he doing? All right, listen to me.
Gonna fire a warning shot.
Do not hit the boat.
It is rigged to blow.
Dwayne! Go, Loretta.
You got to go now.
Everybody, go! Fire at the boat.
Fire! (crowd screaming) (crowd clamoring) MAN: Our city's safety should be of paramount importance, but not to Mayor Taylor, whose idealistic, open door policies and Kumbaya mentality led to this near tragedy.
COOK: Uh, I highly doubt that voters agree with Taylor that welcoming refugees and criminals into our city is the kind of change we want It's not fair that they're blaming Mayor Taylor for everything that happened.
Especially since Mayor Taylor almost died.
That's cold.
Yeah.
That's Butler.
He'll do or say anything to get elected.
Mayor Hamilton, the sequel.
Just what we don't need.
Maybe this election needs a little Russian-style hacker meddling.
Just joking.
Sort of.
Yeah, well, I'm not in the mood to joke.
Still don't understand why Sharif did this.
I thought he was being forced into it.
Well, that doesn't mean he wasn't still.
I mean, who knows what kind of leverage they had on him.
Yeah, but why risk even warning us? He knew we'd try to stop him.
Just doesn't make any sense.
No, it doesn't.
Follow me.
I kept replaying what happened over and over.
It didn't add up, just like you said.
Sharif had to know that we'd try to stop him, which means the terrorists had to know, too.
It's all too neat.
I had a hunch.
Let's see if I'm right.
What'd you find out, Loretta? I found the best news of all, Dwayne.
It wasn't Sharif driving the boat.
Wow.
LASALLE: But wait a second.
I thought y'all saw him.
We saw a red hoodie.
That's what they wanted us to see.
Knew we'd blow the boat before we could get a clear look at who he really was.
Well, tissue samples show that the real driver of the boat was a man named Zaid Farhi from Houston.
Any affiliation to ISIS? SEBASTIAN: A couple garden variety felonies and assaults.
No obvious links.
Wait, hold on.
Slow down.
So, this Farhi guy was set up to look like Sharif? Why? I mean, if he wasn't ISIS, why would he sacrifice his life? Tox screen indicated that he was drugged, uh, most likely unconscious at the time.
SEBASTIAN: Yeah, and most likely with his hands tied to the wheel.
So, I found this floating near the debris field.
I-I can't confirm it yet, but I'm I mean, I'm guessing that this thing's gonna show that the boat was controlled remotely.
All right, so this bad guy named Farhi was knocked out and then tied to a boat full of explosives.
And made to look like it's Sharif.
To send him towards Mayor Taylor, knowing that we would try to stop him.
Yeah, well, the terrorists knew that we were onto them.
Needed to find a way to make us think that we averted the attack.
Yeah, hoping we would let down our guard, thinking the threat was over.
And that Sharif was dead.
But he's not dead, Dwayne.
He's still alive.
But why? What do they still need him for? The terrorists couldn't possibly expect to use him to make another attempt against Mayor Taylor.
That makes even less sense.
Then we make it make sense.
Loretta, I need you to explain all of this to the mayor and get her to lay low.
On Election Day? I'll try.
But I'll call Noora first, let her know Sharif's okay.
No, no, not-not just yet.
We can't risk letting the terrorists find out that we know.
Otherwise, we might not be able to save him from whatever they got planned.
You want me to keep trying to break this down, see if it leads anywhere? Yeah, go.
You backtrack how they intercepted the message Sharif's mom left for him yet? I narrowed the IP address down to a few locations, but nothing concrete.
I need your best guess here, Patton.
There's too much at stake, and we're running out of time.
We got to find those terrorists.
I'm on it.
ARTHUR: They tried to kill you, Zahra.
That doesn't make them all bad.
I will not denounce an entire community of refugees because of the actions of one.
It's profiling, and I won't stand for it.
Even if it costs you the election? Even if it costs me the election.
I'd like the room, please.
Pride send you to try and talk some sense into me, too? As a matter of fact, yes.
Sharif was not the one who tried to kill you this morning.
It was made to look like him.
Why? For what reason? Dwayne doesn't know yet, but they were obviously using Sharif as some kind of scapegoat.
Dwayne'll figure it out.
In the meantime I'm not standing down, Loretta, so don't even try.
Zahra You know me better than anyone.
You know I don't ever walk away from a fight.
As a matter of fact Where are you going? I'm going to do exactly the opposite of what everybody wants me to do.
I'm going to go stand with the refugees and let them know I support them, and let whoever's after me know I will not be intimidated.
Oh, boy.
Geez.
(upbeat jazz playing) PRIDE: If Patton's right and the terrorists are here, they'll have Sharif, too.
(man speaking Arabic) Federal agents! Drop your weapons! (shouts in Arabic) It's not worth it, Abbas! Get your hands up.
Now.
Slow! On your knees.
I got him, King.
You all right, Sharif? Hey, you okay? My mother What about your mother? Pride, not to profile, but these guys seem more like mercenaries than terrorists.
Could be sympathizers.
Except he doesn't seem to have any radical affiliations.
Neither did the guy on the boat.
Someone's trying to make it look like it's terrorists.
Please.
They have my mother.
You have to stop them! WADE: Zahra, I know how strongly you feel, but you are too exposed.
We've had this conversation, Loretta.
I'm here because it's the right thing to do.
Now, which one is Sharif's mother? Loretta, which one is Sharif's mother? Second to last table on the right.
Noora? May I call you Noora? What are you doing here? I'm Zahra, and I wanted to come here and tell you personally that I'm on your side.
I'm not going to let anybody turn your son into a scapegoat.
I-I do not understand.
Do you want to tell her, or shall I? Dwayne said specifically not to tell Your son is alive, Noora.
Alive, and we're doing everything we can to find him and to stop these people who No, you can't.
This is the only way to save Sharif.
Noora, what are you talking about? I have no choice.
Forgive me.
How did you know the mayor would go to Sharif's mother? Huh? Answer me! ABBAS: Those who know her say she's predictable.
They were right, and you're too late.
We have to find a way to let her know I'm safe! TAYLOR: Let's try and talk about this.
Noora, she didn't come here to hurt you or Sharif.
She came here to help.
This is the only way to help Sharif.
This is the only way they let him live.
Noora I am his mother.
I have to protect him.
This won't save your son.
If they don't kill him, they'll return him to the country you sacrificed so much to rescue him from.
Noora, please.
I understand this-- the love of a mother-- but you can't do it like this.
Please, I have lost so much.
(crying): I cannot lose Sharif, too.
(phone ringing) (gasps) Uh, please, please.
Just-just let me answer the phone, I beg of you.
It-it it could be about Sharif.
(phone ringing) NOPD's on their way.
Come on, Loretta.
Pick up, damn it! (phone ringing) Dwayne.
Yes, Loretta, we've got Sharif.
Put Noora on the line.
It's Sharif.
Hello.
Mama? Habibi.
(speaking Arabic) (speaking Arabic) (sobbing) (speaking Arabic) (Sharif speaking Arabic) I love you.
(speaking Arabic) (sobbing) NEWSWOMAN: We feel quite confident here to project Zahra Taylor as the winner of this election.
Ron.
Quite an upset considering the Dwayne.
Didn't turn out the way you'd planned, did it? Did everything you could to keep it that way? I don't know what you're talking about.
Sure, you do.
Tried to make the refugees look like terrorists, scapegoats.
Tried to use them to kill Mayor Taylor.
Mayor Taylor.
All so you could stay in control of the city.
Again I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
That's all right.
You can explain it to the U.
S.
Attorney, 'cause you're under arrest, Mr.
Cook.
GREGORIO: Conspiracy to commit murder.
Oh.
And add on election fraud and domestic terrorism charges.
Abbas turned State's evidence, threw you under the bus.
We know you hired him to set up Sharif.
GREGORIO: We really messed you up when we got on this case, didn't we? When you couldn't get Sharif to kill the mayor, you used him to force his mama to do it instead.
Yeah, you figured the mayor would go to her out of the goodness of her heart.
Knew she would stand by the refugees.
And even if she didn't, a suicide bomber blowing herself up at an election would sway voters.
PRIDE: Tried to make it look like terrorism when it was all just about you getting your candidate elected.
If you think you can bring me down like you did Hamilton, you got another thing coming.
This doesn't change anything.
It changes who's in control of this city finally, and it sure as hell isn't you.
Get him out of here.
Come on.
NEWSMAN: Acting Mayor Zahra Taylor is now officially Mayor Taylor, the first African-American woman to lead this city.
Quite an achievement.
(crowd cheering) (upbeat jazz playing) All right, can't very well celebrate the tricentennial Mardi Gras without a king cake, huh? PATTON: All right.
Now you're talking, baby! Man, that's a good-looking cake.
Where'd you get it, Randazzo's? No.
Noora.
Mm-hmm.
She and Sharif wanted to show their gratitude.
Combined a little of the hometown bakery with one of the oldest traditions in their new town.
Isn't that fantastic? Might have a little more basbousa in it than nutmeg, but it sure looks good.
That's what I love about this town, man.
Everyone adds their own flavor, you know? Hey, it's too bad Percy's not gonna get to enjoy it.
Keep fishing, Lasalle.
Keep fishing.
Hey, five bucks says she's with a new flame.
Not that I'm gambling.
I'm not gambling.
It's totally gambling.
(laughter) To a new dawn! To a new dawn! - New dawn! - All right.
