Welcome to Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking.

I'm gonna be really honest with you.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
It's been awhile since I've been in a classroom, you know? I used to go to this school.
We know.

What you don't know is that back when I came here, there were only two other Black kids in my grade, and it was horrible.
I felt unwanted.
I felt ostracized and really alone.
Things got really dark for me, and I honestly believe those experiences are part of what contributed to the depression I experience today.
But this this is not a sad story, because I eventually found my voice through filmmaking.
That movie that I screened here a few weeks ago, it gave me the opportunity to channel my pain into something that helped people.
That's really why I'm here, to help you have the same experience.
But the question is, do you believe that you have a story to tell? Okay.

How will my family take it? I-I Honestly, I have no clue.

Until today, I-I really doubted it.
But hearing what you said in class today about your journey and And seeing how your film helped you, I can finally imagine a day where I might be able to accept this piece of myself and and show it to everybody else.
It's a condition where feelings get really intense, you know? Like sometimes I feel really happy, almost too happy, and then other times, I feel really, really sad.
I feel those things pretty much every day.
Right, yeah.
Take those feelings and then magnify them by 50.
It's not fun to experience, and it's not that fun to be around either.
You know, uh, that sounds really scary.
It can be, but exercise helps, and so does good sleep.
And then there's my medication, which really just helps to smooth out the good and bad feelings so I don't feel like I'm too happy or too sad for the situation that I'm in.
That sounds good.
But then again, my dad said he had his alcoholism under control, too, and that didn't work out so great.
