BUT WITHIN THESE TOWN LIMITS, ONE BUILDING RISES FROM THE GROUND LIKE A SORE, INFECTED THUMB.
ASHMORE ESTATES IS SAID TO BE THE SITE OF DEMONIC ACTIVITY, DATING BACK NEARLY 150 YEARS.
IN 1870, THESE GROUNDS WERE HOME TO THE COLES COUNTY ALMSHOUSE, A POOR FARM THAT HOUSED AND PUT TO WORK THE OUTCASTS OF THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.
(man) YES, IT WAS WHAT WAS CALLED AN ALMSHOUSE, WHICH BASICALLY HOUSED THE POOR AND INDIGENT PEOPLE WITHOUT FAMILIES, ALCOHOLICS, ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO COULDN' TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES.
SO A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD'VE DIED IN THIS BUILDING BECAUSE THEY SPEN THE END PAR OF THEIR LIFE HERE.
THE GROUNDS REMAINED A POOR FARM UNTIL 1959, WHEN THE COUNTY SOLD THE LAND TO A GROUP OF INVESTORS WHO TURNED THE BUILDING INTO A PRIVATE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL.
THEY HOUSED ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT PATIENTS HERE.
BASICALLY, THERE WAS AN OVERFLOW FROM THE STATE MENTAL INSTITUTION, AND THEY WOULD HOUSE THE, UM, MOST SEVERE PATIENTS ON THE THIRD FLOOR.
(woman screaming) (man) NO, NO, NO! (sobs) FORMER STAFF MEMBERS WOULD TALK ABOU HOW THERE WERE PATIENTS WHO THEY DESCRIBED AS BEING POSSESSED WHO HAD UNNATURAL STRENGTH.

WE SCANNED THE BOILER ROOM AS WELL AS THE THIRD FLOOR STAIRWELL, BUT IT ISN'T UNTIL WE REACH THE SECOND LEVEL, WHERE I WAS STATIONED, THAT WE CAPTURE SOMETHING COMPLETELY SHOCKING.

IF I WERE TO CAST A SHADOW FROM THE LINE OF YOUR SHOOTING ME, WITH THE ONLY LIGHT SOURCE BEHIND ME IS ON AARON'S CAMERA, IT WOULD BE PROJECTING MY SHADOW UP IN THIS REGION OVER HERE.
