Rookie Blue s05e01 Episode Script

Blink

- Previously on "Rookie Blue" Officer down! - We've got an officer down.
- Heard she got shot.
Is she okay? - We don't know yet.
You guys must have been pretty close.
- You could say that.
She's my wife.
- Whatever this is, I don't totally hate it.
- Me neither.
- So let's just keep open with each other.
- That's perfect.
- Collins.
- Ford, no! - Sam, I love you.
- Let's go, let's go! - Step aside please.
- Is everything okay? - I don't know.
There's no time for imaging.
We need to get the bleeding under control first.
- It's major surgery.
We're doing our best, but he's lost a lot of blood, and we haven't had any luck tracking down his next of kin.
- How much do you want? - Just anything with blood on it.
- I'm keeping my bra, I don't care.
- I am prepared to defend that decision.
Chris just grabbed whatever was in your locker so I'm not sure any of it matches.
- Well, I'm not sure any of me cares.
That's fine.
- This morning I was thinking, you know, my life's pretty good.
You know, nice boyfriend, no drama, just chugging along, no big deal.
A walk in the park.
Literally.
I was walking in the park with Chloe.
And I blinked.
- Hey, one more time, let's walk it through.
- Okay.
- Collins? In the Parade Room with Officer Cruz.
- I come to the door.
You don't see me.
- I'm Kevin Ford.
And then I say? - "Collins.
" - "Collins.
" And Swarek.
Where was Officer Swarek? - "Ford, stop.
" - I swivel.
One shot, bang.
- Bang.
- I fall back into the glass.
Give me a second, will ya? Detective Peck.
- Hey.
Into evidence please.
- You look terrible.
- Ah, thank you, Inspector.
That's a nice tie.
- Eh, got dressed in the dark, you know.
Didn't want to wake Jamie.
- Inspector John Jarvis, this is Detective Tracy Nash.
- It's nice to meet you.
I wish the circumstances were different.
- Were you guys around for this circus? - No.
- No.
- Good.
You can work it.
Where's Officer Collins? - He should be here any minute.
- Good, 'cause SIU needs a statement.
- Okay.
- All right.
- I wonder how he's feeling? - It it was a clean shoot, John.
- No, I mean about Swarek.
You know, balloons, bottle of whiskey.
It's hard to know what to get a guy who took a bullet for you.
- Chloe, this is This is good.
This is good.
Hey, the surgery went better than they hoped.
- Except for the fact that I now have a blood clot that could kill me.
- Just rest.
Okay? Doc says it might go away on its own.
- Why didn't they take it out? - It would have involved another surgery.
You know, your parents are not back yet, someone had to make the call.
- And that's what you decided? To leave it in there, inside of me like some sort of ticking time-bomb, Frank? - I didn't decide.
Your husband did.
- Sorry.
- Yeah.
Wes is here.
- But where Where's Dov? - He's here too.
They're both waiting outside.
- Just so you know, Chloe hates roses.
Just saying, she thinks they're predictable.
- Oh, yeah? Does she like bears? Cheap little bears made in China, "Get well soon.
" She like that? - It's 3:00 a.
m.
, man, not a whole lot of choice.
- Hence the roses.
- Fair enough.
- Any news? - Oliver's sleeping.
Sam just went into surgery.
- What about Chloe? - She's awake.
- Can I see her? - Dov, she's asked for her spend a little time with Wes.
Dov, I don't know what's going on with that girl.
I love her like my own daughter, but why she ever married that man is beyond my comprehension.
And if you ever quote me on that, you'll be working a desk until I retire.
- You know, I gotta get outta here, just for a few minutes.
I need some air.
- Yeah, yeah, go ahead.
Go get something to eat, both of you.
- I'm not hungry.
- It's an order, McNally.
There's a diner down the street.
Be back in 20.
Anything happens, they will call you.
Trust me, grilled cheese, a couple of Irish floats, it'll save your life.
All right.
- Irish float, I don't even know what that is.
- It sounds disgusting.
I don't care though.
I'm too tired to make a decision.
- Well, at least you've got a decision to make.
- Oh, yeah, what's that? - Andy, she's married.
My amazing, beautiful, hilarious girlfriend just got shot, and she's married to another man.
- I know.
It doesn't make any sense.
Which means you have to hear her out.
There's got to be an explanation.
Either way, I mean, there's no contest, the guy was holding a stupid bear.
- Yeah, which she probably likes.
Chloe Price, open book.
Enjoys, you know, long walks on the beach, cheap toys, and getting married and not telling anybody about it.
- Can I help you? - Yeah, we'll get two grilled cheese, side of fries, and two Irish floats.
Thanks.
Okay, man, we've been up for 22 hours.
Okay, let's just get something to eat, and we'll go back and figure it out.
- Hey.
You hungry? - No.
I only want alcohol.
- Oh, it's It's up there.
But why don't you eat something first? - Yeah, okay, if it's got alcohol in it.
- You okay? - Yeah, I'm fine.
It's not like I'm the one who got shot.
- Maybe we shouldn't have left the hospital.
- Holly, there are 30 other cops waiting around.
There's really no point in me being there.
No one's looking for my shoulder to cry on.
- Gail - Mm.
You know what, though? We could go back as the big gay distraction.
Yeah, let's let's give people something to talk about.
I mean, now that I've come out to my brother, that juicy bit of news is just gonna spread like herpes.
There is no going back now, girlfriend.
There ain't no going back.
- Could we get a couple of glasses for these, please? - Nope.
- Will wonders never cease? - What is that, scotch? - Irish whiskey, vanilla ice cream.
Strangely, an elegant combination.
Rough night? - Not as rough as ours.
Not that I'm comparing.
- It's okay.
You can compare.
- It's fine.
I'm fine.
Four ginger ales.
- You catch that? - Uh-huh.
Pancakes, macaroni and cheese balls, three eggs, and four ginger ales.
So? - How high do you gotta be to wanna eat that? - Uh-huh.
You need to let this go right now.
Dov, I'm serious.
I don't feel like being a cop tonight.
Let it go.
- You got an ETA on Collins? - Haven't been able to reach him.
- Find him.
Last thing this division needs tonight is another problem.
- Inspector, there is no problem.
Collins will be here.
- Good.
'Cause SIU's waiting to clear him.
It's protocol, it's very simple.
You don't shoot a guy, leave, and then not come back, right? And if I were your boss, I'd tell you that you have half an hour to get him in here.
- And, are you? - Am I what? - My boss.
- Huh.
That's a funny question.
- Right.
- I wonder what else she didn't tell me.
Hey, maybe if I'd been there when she got shot, she would have told me about Wes, but - Dov, I was with her.
The only thing she said was to tell you not to worry.
In fact, you're the only person that she brought up.
- What about Swarek? You were with him in the ambulance, right? - Yep.
- Did he say anything? - No.
Not really.
I mean, I I might have said a couple of things.
- Oh yeah? - Yeah.
- Like what? - Just girly, gushy stuff.
You probably don't want to know.
- Such as? - Like, "I love you".
- Uh, okay, uh What about Nick? I mean, do Are you - We're great.
- Yeah? - Yeah.
Happy and I'm happy.
It's just I don't know, Dov, okay? I'm I'm I'm sitting there, and I'm watching Sam bleed.
Okay? And I'm I'm just slammed right back into how I used to feel.
I'm in the ambulance, and I'm I can't help but feel like, if he dies, then I will too.
So, yes, I said, "I love you.
" - Check it out.
They're not eating.
- Of course they're not eating.
They're high as bananas.
- Bananas? - Really, you're not going to give me a pass.
I'm a bit tired.
- Uh, hey, hey Could I get another side of these pancakes and some fries? - You haven't eaten anything I brought you.
- So? - So? - I'm out.
I'm not dealing with this.
And, in the spirit of not wanting to be a cop tonight, I got this.
- I asked you for pancakes.
- Okay, you know what? Is he gonna pay for this? - Are you the waitress? - Yeah.
- Did you take his order? Are you gonna get him some pancakes now? - Whoa, guys, can I - I don't need this.
- Are you really gonna argue this with me? - Can I help you? - Yeah.
Don't move.
Or I'm gonna shoot somebody.
Don't move! Don't touch your phone.
All of you sit down and shut up! - Wallet, watches, phones, anything you got, give it to Zach, and don't think I won't shoot you, I will.
- Gimme the watch.
In the bag, now! - What, are you kidding me? That's, like, 80 bucks.
- I'm sorry, it's been a slow night.
- No, no, no, no.
There's gotta be more money around here somewhere.
Move! - People, get get your stuff out and ready! In the bag In the bag! - He's looking for wallets.
- They see our badges, this gets worse.
- Okay, maybe they won't look.
Do you have a gun on you? - No.
You? - No.
- Empty your pockets.
Wallets, jewelry, come on! Watches, cell phones.
Let's go! - All right.
- I don't wear a watch.
It's funny.
With the whole cell phone, don't feel the need.
- Oh, my God.
- Shut up.
Earrings, take 'em off.
Come on! - Okay.
Fine, you can have 'em, they're fake.
- Really? You wear those every day.
- Well, hidey-ho.
What's your name? - Lewis.
- Lewis.
Lewis, I'm hurt because this makes it seem like you were holding out on me.
Zach, there's a safe.
Open it! - I I can't.
It's on a timer.
- Then give me the combination.
I said give me the combination! - Lewis, just give her the combination.
Okay? It's just money.
Nobody's gonna get hurt.
- Who asked you? - 11-27-63.
- Uh! What's wrong with this thing? - I told you, it's on a timer.
I can only open it once a night.
I take the cash out when I leave.
- What time? - 5:00 a.
m.
- That's an hour away.
- We'll wait.
- We can't wait.
- Why not? We're in it now.
Nobody's coming in here.
And nobody's leaving, not until we get what we came for! - Nick, this is my third message.
People are looking for you.
So get your ass back here.
All right? I'm starting to worry.
- Trace.
- Leo? - Hey, Mom.
- What are you doing here? Where's Stella? - If Stella's the babysitter, she's gone.
She just dropped him off.
- You were supposed to pick me up.
It's 4:00 in the morning.
Honey, you must be exhausted.
- I just want to sleep in my own bed.
- I know, I get that.
Okay, come here.
Come here.
Let's put you on the couch.
Okay? Uh - Can I play on your phone? - Yes.
Here you go.
But listen, just for a little bit 'cause you need to get some sleep.
- Okay.
- Okay.
Oh, I said I'd pick him up at midnight, , and I totally forgot to call her.
- It's a crazy night.
You get a pass.
- Well, still - What, you can't just drop him off at home? - Well, yeah, after I talk to every single witness.
- What, you don't want to call Dex? - That's a huge can of worms.
It's not his night, but he's gonna be fine.
It's just a few more hours.
- What about Jarvis? When he sees a kid in here, he's gonna get - What am I supposed to do? I'm his mother.
- Trace, I'm just saying.
- Chris.
Still, maybe don't mention it to him.
- Yeah.
Of course.
- Yeah.
- Gail? How much longer are you gonna be in there? Hey, please confirm existence.
I'm coming in.
- Who cares, right? It's only hair.
So this is happening.
- Yeah.
I mean, I saw your scissors, and I just thought, "Oh, yay.
There's something I could just rewind.
" You see this inch? This inch is from the Academy.
You know? This inch is from the first six months on the job.
This inch is from when I was dating Chris.
That part's when Jerry died.
And then, see these last few inches? That's round two with Nicholas.
- Okay.
But, honey - No, no.
No, look, look, look, look.
There's literally no bad inches, and I'm just gonna go back to the beginning, and I'm rewinding everything.
And, I Oh, my God.
What did I What did I do? - You cut off all your hair.
- All right I'm freaking out a little bit, aren't I? - Yeah.
No, she moved out about four months ago, which is great for me because she was a serious pain in the ass.
- Okay, you have a phone number for her? Hey.
Hey, we need to get outta here.
Let's just take what we got and go.
- Take what we've got? We've got nothing.
There's probably thousands of dollars in there.
- Okay, but I'll think of something.
- You're gonna think of somethin', Zach? - Hello? Excuse me.
- Your door is locked.
- What, we're going to go back to your mom's house? Go to her doorstep? Shut up.
We're closed! - Closed!? Come on.
- Hey, hey, hey! Where are you going? - I'm saving your ass.
Why don't you put the gun away? - You can't just walk out that door.
- I'm not walking out the door.
I'm gonna try to stop her from coming in.
Unless you wanna do it.
I can see you.
Come here and open the door.
It's freezing out here, okay? - Hi.
I I'm sorry, we're closed.
- What? - Yeah.
Sorry.
- There are people in there, I can see 'em.
- That's true, but actually the kitchen has run out of supplies, and so we're not serving anybody anymore: - Okay, I'm not sure what your problem is, but this is the only all-night place around, and I need a vanilla milkshake.
Lewis, hey.
Can I please get a vanilla milkshake to go? I'll get it.
I got it.
Sorry, this might take a second.
I'm new.
- That's okay.
I'll wait.
- Just let her get it and go.
- She's got two minutes.
- Hey, Dov, it's me again.
Just checking in.
Not every day a girl gets shot.
So I was kind of hoping to say Hola.
Anyway, just call me back.
I'll, um probably just hang out here for a bit, yeah.
- Hey.
I'll be out in a second.
You'd think he could wait five minutes for his pregnant wife to get a milkshake.
- Sorry about the wait.
- No worries.
- Don't forget your receipt.
- Okay.
- Let me get that.
- Are you sure? - Yeah.
Yeah.
My girlfriend and I are thinking about having a kid ourselves.
- Okay.
Thank you very much.
Have a good night.
Have a good night, Lewis.
Good luck training the new guy.
- You dumb bastard! Anyone else? - That's it.
Statements from everyone who witnessed the shooting, except Andy.
She's still at the hospital.
- Who's Andy? - Officer McNally.
I said it was fine.
- Well, get him in here.
- She'll be back when Swarek is out of surgery.
- What about the shooter? - Excuse me? - Officer Collins.
- Sir, we still haven't located Officer Collins.
- Is this typical of the tight ship that is 15 Division? - Look, I assure you, Inspector, a very tight ship.
- Where is he? - Dex, he's fine.
- Who's fine? - Stella just dropped him off.
He's sleeping up in my office.
- Traci, he's not fine.
Look, he called me to come and get him.
- Leo called you? - Sir, did anyone stop you at the door and tell you that this was an active crime scene? - No, they didn't need to, I mean, it's 4:30 in the morning, right? And you got blood and glass all over the floor.
And hey, Traci's here, and so is my kid.
So I kind of figured it out.
- Hey, pal.
You need to get out of here.
- Yeah.
I do, and so does my son.
And in the morning I'm calling my lawyer.
- Dex, calm down.
- Leo would be better off with me, and you know it.
- Again, Inspector, it's it's been a long night for everyone.
- Ah sure, I understand.
- Babe.
- 11-27-63 - Come on, we gotta go.
- I know what you're thinking.
This is on him, though.
This isn't my fault.
- Dov? - Uh, he's lost a lot of blood, and it's not stopping.
- Courtney, we have to call an ambulance.
- No way.
- I don't think he has that long.
- I do! We do! Zach? Sit down! - No, hold on a second.
I have an idea.
Why don't you just take the whole safe? Rip it out of the wall.
- You know how to do that? - We could try.
Do you guys have any tools in the back? Maybe, um, a crowbar? - Yeah, yeah.
I think so.
- Okay.
- Get your tools, go.
Zach, follow her.
Yeah.
- You really think we can get this thing out of here? - I have no idea.
Chloe Price.
As I live and breathe.
Hey.
Wow.
- Hi.
- Looking good.
- Oh, yeah.
I know, right? - Oh, you're wired up.
- Hey, check it out.
Boom.
- Oh, wow.
Nice.
That is going to be a very sweet scar.
- Uh-huh.
What about you? - Uh, you know, this.
- Yeah.
- I had a pretty decent concussion.
And some chafing from the cuffs.
Nothing cool.
Not like that.
But it's no big deal.
- Hey, how'd you get out of your room? - Oh, I'll tell you how I got out of my room.
I pretended to be asleep.
- Oh, yeah? - Pretty devious, eh? - Mm-hmm.
- 30 seconds later, and Celery is out like a light.
Swear to God.
I must be like human melatonin or something like that.
Anyway, I wanted to check on Sam.
- Yeah.
- He's still in surgery.
Where's Epstein? - Ah, I have no idea.
- Are you kidding me? - No, it's fine.
- Really? - It's fine.
It's just - Dial nine.
- It's It's a little bit complicated.
- You know what? Everything is complicated, darling.

- Yes, I know.
- And he gets Just, I have enough problems - That's part of his charm.

- Okay.
- I got this.
Hey, Dov, it's me.
Just Just lying here, dying.

- What do you mean? - We're not close.
- Yeah? Why not? - I'm guessing you don't know my brother very well.
He's hard to get to know.
And I'm worse, so.
Are you okay? Yeah? - Yeah, no.
Just wondering why he's not picking up.
- I don't know.

It's okay, you You don't you don't have to be sorry, all right? I mean, I had two really long minutes to to really think about everything.
And the only thing that matters is that you're okay.
I don't care if you choose Wes - Dov.
or if you never want to see me again, that's fine.
- It was never a choice.
It was always you.
I told Wes to go home, I just I just needed to get it over with before I saw you.
I mean, I know that I am technically married.
But if you were willing to overlook that fact and the fact that I didn't tell you, that would make me really, really happy because I just want to be with you.
- Me too.
- Hey, Dov, what just happened? - Oh, nothing.
You know, it was a little cardiac arrest.
- Like Like a heart attack? - Yeah, yeah, like a a small heart attack.
- Did I die? - For a second.
But you came back to life.
- Were you scared? - No - Was I scared? - Well, you were dead, so - That's not funny.
- Ugh.
Life.
- I know, right.
Who needs it? - I mean, you can plan, plan, and prepare, but it doesn't really matter 'cause things just go where they wanna go.
- Yep.
Sort of like this cowlick.
- I'm sitting in a bathtub waiting to hear if my friends are still alive.
Drinking bourbon with the coolest chick ever.
And I have no hair.
- Not exactly a fairy tale.
- Nope.
- Hmm.
Still kinda beautiful, though.
- Oh, really? - Yeah.
Come on.
Let's wash this mess down the drain.
- What are you doing? - Oh, gee Oh, my God! It's freezing.
- He's still in surgery, but they're saying he should be out soon.
- I can't do it.
Sorry, you came all the way to get me, and I thought I could, but I - Sarah, Sarah, you're his sister.
You're family.
- Yeah, you keep saying family like we're normal, but we're not.
Okay, we're messed up.
- All families are messed up.
- Nah, you haven't met ours.
And you really don't know my brother, do you? - No.
No, not very well.
- Why are you doing this? - 'Cause the guy needs somebody.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Thanks for finding me.
- Hey.
What are you doing here? I thought you went back to the station.
- Oh, uh, next of kin.
Hospital said they couldn't find Swarek's family so I went and found his family.
- Who? - His sister.
She's in the waiting room.
The guy saved my life, it's the least I could do.
Yeah, SIU's still waiting to talk to me, so - Wait a second.
Just wait.
I, uh I have to tell you the truth.
When I was in the ambulance with Sam, I had to keep talking, you know, to keep him awake.
Uh, I didn't really I didn't really know what to say, but I ended up I ended up telling him that I still loved him.
- Do you? - Yes.
- I'll see you around.
- Oh.
- So Dex took him home? - He's going to He's going to He's going to get custody.
- He'll cool off in a day or two.
- No.
Not this time.
I can tell.
Between chasing bad guys and getting Leo to swimming and hockey, I don't know when I'm going to have time to find a lawyer.
I love how not having a job makes him the superior parent.
- Traci, you don't have to do this alone, you know.
I'm I'm serious.
I'm solid.
I'm not going anywhere, okay? Hey, I love kids.
- Steve - What? - come on.
You don't want this.
This is a mess.
This whole thing is - Don't Don't tell me what I want, Nash.
I know what I want.
I know what I want.
And I want you.
And I want everything that comes with you.
Everything.
It'll work out.
Okay.
Well see? There he is.
- I'm gonna kill him.
- And Jarvis will be fine, okay? I I got your back.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
- Yeah, hey, it's Steve.
Yeah, listen, I need you to dig into someone for me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Background check, the whole nine.
Dexter Dexter Slade, S-L-A-D-E.
- Frank, got a minute? - Yeah, come on.
Have a seat.
- Collins finally showed up.
He's in with SIU right now.
In the meantime, I've reviewed everything and gone through it all with the investigators, and I guess my question here is, are you guys going to be heroes, or are you going to be screwups? - I don't follow.
- Well, I figure we've got two ways to spin this.
Door number one, this is a division of heroes.
Under siege, protecting the public, hunting a hunter, taking bullets for the team.
- That isn't That isn't spin, that's true.
- I don't know.
There's certainly another way to look at it.
- Which is? - Well, an armed man, posing as a police officer walks into a secure building and opens fire.
Some might argue that was a screw-up of massive proportions.
Atop-down catastrophe of conflicting loyalties, poor communication, and weak leadership, resulting in multiple injuries, and at least one death.
And while I have a strong feeling that Detective Swarek may be at the heart of it all and withholding information, bipolar girlfriend now under SIU investigation, I'm still gonna have a very difficult time pinning this gong show on a wounded hero.
You probably know where I'm going with this.
- I'm starting to get the idea.
- I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll try for door number one, but I've got to take something upstairs.
I gotta give them something.
- This what you're after? - For now.
No rush.
Take your time.
HR will be in touch.
- Hey.
- What time is it? - It's almost morning.
- Where is everybody? - They're around.
Everybody's fine.
- It's really good to see you.
- You too.
- McNally.
I I don't want to waste anymore time.
And I I I don't wanna be sad anymore.
- Me neither.
