Heartland (CA) s05e02 Episode Script
Something in the Night
Previously on "Heartland": Hey, I'm back.
Shane? When're you gonna talk to him? You know, maybe for once, you should just Try not to interfere.
Look at you and Amy.
You guys are sorta back together, but neither one of you are saying you're actually back together.
We're closer than we've ever been before.
So, in that respect, yes, we're back together.
I'd love to go and show Renard what I can do with Spartan once Once I can actually do something.
We're you planning on telling me you're moving out? This is not Amy and I breaking up, Jack.
I think it's time to take it to another level.
(Horse whinnies) (Spartan nickers) ⪠⪠⪠(Spartan grunts and pants) Mallory: Amy, what're you doing out here? Amy: I'm trying to work with Spartan in a quiet place.
I'm not talking about Spartan! I'm talking about Ty moving out and you acting like everything is all good! It's just a couple of miles up the road, Mallory.
And, besides, we both agreed that this was the best thing.
Yeah.
If you love someone, set them free.
Then just sit there and watch as he takes off and keeps going and going and going Mallory, it's not like that.
I mean, we're not kids anymore.
We know how we feel and we trust each other.
Hey, where're you going? Grrr! Thank you! (Spartan whinnies) Jack: So, you heard from Miranda since Shane went back to Moose Jaw? Well, she called to say that they arrived.
Since then, nothing.
Jack: So, what? That's it? From now on, I have to keep lying to my granddaughters to protect you? I wouldn't call it lying, Jack.
I mean, I'd call it Not telling the truth.
Yeah.
Well, you'd call a spade a diamond if it wins you the hand.
This can't go on, Tim.
I'm getting sick and tired of pussy-footing around this whole issue.
Well, I'm trying, Jack.
(Phone rings) Just here, hang on a second.
I gotta take this.
Oh, surprise, surprise No, I'm not busy.
I'm Well, helping Jack.
Okay, yeah.
Bye.
What was that all about? Uh Oh, that was the track.
I gotta go.
The track? It's important, Jack, I gotta do this right now.
So? So? Miranda? Shane? Yeah, yeah.
I'm-I'm on it.
(Truck door closes and starts up) (Objects clatter) You're not gonna forget this, are you? Of course not.
Still fits.
You need to tilt it down a little.
- How's that? - Better.
Yeah? You know, I used to think I was gonna turn you into a cowboy.
I guess I should've figured you were more of a motorcycle helmet kind of guy.
(Mimics Caleb) Yes, I am.
Both: (Laugh) Hey, if I'm moving into Caleb's trailer, I gotta talk the talk, right? - Yeah? - Mm-hmm.
Just practicing.
Hey, can you gimme a hand with this stuff? - Yeah, sure.
- Thank you.
Ty: All right Ty: You got it? Amy: Yeah.
(Engine rumbles) So You never call, you never write, and suddenly, you're here? Good ol' Tim.
No kiss, no hug, not even a hello.
It's good to see you.
Good to see you too.
But I gotta ask you, what happened to California? Well, California was great-- plenty of work, tons of money-- but after leaving here, I just couldn't help feeling like there was something missing from my life.
Yeah, I know the feeling.
And then, I met Cisco here.
He's a two-year-old, and still growing.
So what, you You drove all the way up here to show me a horse you bought? Oh, I didn't buy the horse, Tim.
You did.
At least, that's what it says on the bill of sale.
No, wait a second.
You're giving me a racehorse?! Wow, Tim.
The way you picked up on that? (Inhales tightly) If he's half as fast as you, we're gonna have a real winner on our hands.
Ty: Well, I guess this about does it.
Yeah.
Are you sure you don't want me to come with you and help you settle in? Thanks, but I don't have that much stuff, Amy.
Look, I don't wanna make a big deal about this, okay? Yeah.
No, I know, you're right.
Just a change of scenery.
Yeah.
- Okay.
- Okay? Yeah.
Bye.
(Hats clunk, Amy chuckles) My bad.
You know, maybe I should just hang onto this, give you something to come back for.
I already have plenty to come back for.
Thanks, Mallory.
Okay.
Go on.
See ya.
(Engine sputters and rumbles) (Horn beeps twice) Mallory: You're right.
You should've kept the hat.
At least then you'd have a souvenir.
Mallory ⪠Original air date: September 25, 2011 ⪠⪠And at the break of day you sank into your dream ⪠⪠you dreamer.
⪠⪠Oh, oh, oh ⪠⪠You dreamer, ⪠⪠you dreamer.
⪠Janice: See? Looks like a champion.
He's got spirit, intelligence, and wait until you see him run.
Tim: Yeah, he looks good.
He looks real good.
I just can't help but wonder What I did to deserve such an extravagant gift? Well, he's not exactly a gift, Tim.
More like a business deal.
I'm a jockey; I can't legally own a horse.
I need a partner.
So why me? Well, maybe off the track, our relationship didn't turn out so great.
But on the track? We made a hell of a team.
Who better to hook up with? Well, I mean, he looks promising.
There's no doubt about that.
You know me, I can't pass up a good deal.
So that means? That means nothing.
Not yet.
Not until Scott looks at him.
You'd be a fool to agree to anything without getting him vetted.
Yeah, and a lawyer-- to look at the paperwork, make sure everything's legal.
Hey, yeah, sure.
It's all gotta be above board.
And Amy, I want her involved.
She really came through for me with Dexter.
Right.
You mean, when she turned him into a jumper? Not a good start.
(Snorted chuckle) Sure.
Amy.
Of course.
Hey, Lou.
Yeah, and how's my favourite niece? Okay, okay Yup.
Mm-hm.
And the in-laws? Oh, okay.
No, I understand.
I do.
You know what? I'm gonna call you back after dinner though.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bye.
Geez, she's in a good mood.
Mmm Expecting someone? For example, Ty? Uh No.
It's just got distracted talking to Lou.
(Door closes) Tim: Hello! Amy: Hey.
Tim: Mmm, beef stew Huh, somebody must've been reading my mind.
Anybody sitting here? So, Tim, what brings you by? You know, other than dinner? Tim: Well, I have a favour to ask you.
- Uh-huh.
- It's about a horse.
- Okay.
- I'd like you to look at him.
He's a two-year-old, hasn't run his first race yet.
Race? What, you're talking about a racehorse? Yeah, not just any racehorse, Jack.
We're talking about a horse that's gonna put me back in the winners' circle.
Yeah.
(Crickets chirp) (Phone rings) Hey.
Amy: Yeah, I kinda missed you at dinner.
And it's weird not seeing lights on in the barn.
Yeah.
It's gonna take a while to get used to.
Yeah, it must be weird.
Be so quiet, after living four years above a horse barn.
(Animal chatters) Actually, it's kinda noisy.
(Laughs) (Animal chatters loudly) Hey, Amy? Um, I'm gonna have to call you back, okay? Oh.
Okay.
Bye.
(Phone beeps off) (Animal chatters nearby) (Chattering) Whoa! (Hatch clunks shut) Hey, Caleb, what's up with the raccoon? Raccoons? A whole family of them? Yeah, they're back, man! You didn't tell me they were here in the first place! That's exactly what I'm looking for-- a way to get rid of 'em.
On the hook by the bed Okay.
Yeah, I got 'em.
Okay.
Thanks, man.
This is your solution? No, it's great, man.
Thanks.
No, thanks.
(Exhales, annoyed) Scott: Bingo! No problem getting in through here.
Ty: Might as well hang a welcome sign.
Well, we'll set the traps up along here.
Ty: Okay.
So, just like this.
And this stuff here is an oral rabies vaccine.
It's like killing two birds with one stone.
You know, without the killing part.
Hey, thanks for doing this, man.
Caleb said I should shoot 'em, but I couldn't do that.
Well, look on the bright side.
If a gun's your first option, maybe you're not cut out to be a vet.
So, let me ask you.
Um What was it? The idea of actually having to pay rent? Or just getting out while the getting was good? What're you talking about? Well, sometimes, you stay in one place too long and Well, what I'm trying to say is, you don't want your girlfriend to think of you as the charity case in the loft.
Or the hired hand? Yeah, I know what you mean.
To be honest, it was just starting to feel too comfortable, you know? Well, no worries about that happening in this place, that's for sure.
Thanks.
Have fun.
Janice: By the way, did you ever get things sorted out with your son? Tim: Yes sorta.
Just keep it under your hat, will you, Janice? You still haven't told your girls? I haven't told anyone, except for you and Jack.
You know, Shane was here, a couple weeks ago, visiting.
He and his mom moved to Moose Jaw.
You kidding me? Moose Jaw? She left me a phone number and an address, but It's not gonna do me a lotta good.
'Cause she won't take my calls anyway.
Jack thinks I should go after her.
Tim okay, it's none of my business, but whatever arrangements you have with this woman, - I mean-- - Miranda? Yeah, Miranda.
Look, whatever you choose to do, it's your decision, not Jack's.
I know you got a big heart, Tim, but dragging your kid off to Moose Jaw to get away from you? I'd say that's a pretty definite sign to let this whole thing go.
Well, that's Sort of along the lines I was thinking.
Janice: You go chasing after somebody who doesn't wanna be caught, it's only gonna lead you to a world of pain.
(Horse whinnies nearby) (Gentle command) (Gentle command) Good boy.
(Gentle command) Jack: Surprised to see you in the round pen.
Yeah.
You know, I was doing great with him, and then he decided to take off on me and I had to run after him.
(Pen latch clanks) So you decided to take it back a couple of steps? I guess I just lost my focus.
Well, I guess you got a lot on your mind these days, what with Ty.
You know, I I didn't think it was gonna feel like this.
I didn't think I was gonna hurt this much.
Well, Ty's a young man.
He's gotta find a place for himself in this world.
And whatever he's looking for, I can guarantee it's not an excuse to get away from you.
(Reflective sigh) (Hoofbeats) Janice: You see that? Told you he had speed! Yeah.
He's blowing pretty hard though.
You think you're pushing him a bit? Janice: Pushing's what you gotta do to get a young horse in shape.
Besides, it was only an eighth of a mile.
I don't know.
A racehorse? It's a lot of work.
You know, I'll have to think about this.
Come on.
Take him.
Tim, I know what I'm doing, and you know he can run.
So how much thinking is this gonna take? Tim: We still gotta get him vetted.
But if there's no problem there Okay, I'm in.
You wanna seal the deal with a handshake? Yeah, it's a business deal, that's how people normally Well, I don't know 'bout normal people, but it isn't at all how I thought we'd be doing this.
Scott: Well, he's got strong bones.
Still got some growing to do.
So far, so good.
What'd I tell you? But you're gonna have to keep an eye out for that swelling around his joints.
You don't worry about that, Scott.
Janice has been taking him slow, working him gradually.
Yeah, I'm gonna ice Cisco's joints after every workout.
Poultice and wrap 'em and dose him with bute.
Keep him comfortable and ready to run.
Scott: His schedule sounds a little heavy.
If he was my horse, I I'm not sure that'd be the way I'd go.
Yeah, well, we're on a strict budget, so we can't wait forever to get him on the track.
I'm just saying, put too much mileage on a young horse, you're gonna pay for it in the end.
Tim: Well, Amy's a part of this deal.
She's working closely with Janice.
And you know Amy, she'll always put the animal first, no matter what.
Yeah.
No worries about Cisco here, with Amy onboard.
So all we need from you is a straight answer.
Is the horse sound or isn't he? Yeah.
He's fine.
Just don't work him too hard, okay? Thanks, Scott.
Amy: That's what I'm talking about, Ty.
Look at Zenyatta.
They waited until she was in her third year before they raced her, and then she won everything she ever ran in except for the last one.
Exactly what Scott was trying to tell your dad.
He thinks by doing training as fast as possible you save money, but you end up spending it on therapy and medication in the end.
Yeah, but a two-year-old horse shouldn't need to be drugged and wrapped.
Too bad Janice doesn't think like that.
Janice? Tim's Janice? Yeah.
The horse that dad's looking at, Janice brought up from California, and he wants me to work with him.
Jack: Because he's concerned she's putting too much pressure on the horse? Well, I'm not so sure about that.
Tim seems pretty adamant about moving things along as fast as possible.
So I guess that means you'll get caught right in the middle of all this? Well, I haven't even seen the horse yet, but Yeah, I guess that's what it's like.
And there's one more thing, Jack.
Judging from appearances, it kinda seems like they're Mallory: Let me guess.
Amy's dad and Janice-- it's more than about a horse.
Well, it kinda seemed that way, yeah.
Mm.
I can't help thinking that that woman does not bring out the best in your father.
Tim: I say tomorrow we run him four furlongs, so he doesn't get all tied up.
You know, the one thing about working at the track is you just always end up taking work home with you.
What do you mean, taking work home? Are you talking about me? Oh, is that the way you see this? I spent four months, Tim, going through a whole range of emotions, from denial to rage to acceptance.
Now, being here with you, I just Realize it was all just a huge waste of energy.
Well, let's not forget who walked out on who.
(Scoffs) I haven't forgotten for a second.
But my biggest mistake was not realizing that all I had to do was turn around and come back up here.
And I'd know what I shoulda known all along.
- So are you inviting me in? - Yeah.
What the hell do you think I was just doing? Tim: (Chortles) Okay, okay.
Now take it easy, take it easy.
It's been awhile.
Tell me about it.
Tim: Whoa! You know, I've had my fair share of dinners at Heartland and, uh I was thinking that maybe next time I could make you dinner.
At my place.
Are you like asking me on a date? Yeah, I guess I am.
Dinner and dancing.
Whatever.
Dancing? Well, I got a radio and about a square foot of floor space.
Both: (Laugh) What do you say? Six, seven o'clock? I'll be there.
No you won't.
I'm gonna pick you up; That way it's a date.
Not just you dropping by.
- 'Kay? - Okay.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
Mallory: Okay, he opened the car door He's getting in No, he's turning around.
And there's the kiss.
All right, Mallory, enough with the play-by-play.
I just thought you may be concerned about your granddaughter's social life.
Well, I'm not.
But what I am concerned about is how, with Ty moving out, I need to find someone to help take care of this place for the next couple of days.
Are you going somewhere, Jack? Like I said, I need someone to give Amy a hand.
Well, my job is to make sure the dude ranch is good while Lou's gone.
So, I'm afraid the answer's no.
No it isn't.
The answer is "Yes, Jack, and thank you for the extra responsibility.
" (Soft creaking, raccoons chatter loudly) Ty: (Annoyed groan) (Sighs) Quiet!! (Raccoons squeal and chatter) Ungh! That's it, guys! I've been patient I've been patient with you guys, okay? Not anymore.
Not anymore! You hear that? How 'bout that? Huh? (Trailer door slams shut) Okay (Cocks gun) I warned ya.
(Gunshot blasts echoes through the night) Yeah! That got your attention, didn't it? Ah ha ha! All right.
Okay.
(Exaggerated relaxed sigh) (Calming breaths) (Raccoons start squealing and chattering) Okay, guys, that was my last warning shot! The next one's for real! So please, get in the cages and shut up! (Infuriated howl) (Muffled growl) (Horn blasts) Tim: (Dazed grumble) What? What is so important you gotta call me at 6 A.
M.
? Well, it's been so long since I've seen ya.
I'm heading for coffee, I figured you might like to join me? Coffee? I got Jan Come on.
Oh.
Okay.
You're buying.
Don't I always? (Groans) I'm having breakfast.
Full package deal.
Amy: I'm sure Peter's mom means well, Lou.
Well, she's a grandmother; Comes with the territory.
Yeah.
Yeah, I gotta go.
Okay.
Yup.
Bye.
Hey.
Hey.
If you're looking for your dad, he took off awhile ago.
Well, actually, he asked me to come out and have a look at Cisco.
I just thought maybe we could work out his schedule and his diet.
Well, yesterday, I galloped him for a mile, then opened him up for an eighth.
Did the same thing today.
I plan on doing the same thing tomorrow.
You know, maybe, uh Maybe should ease back a little, take every second, third day off, and put him out in a paddock.
You don't put racehorses in paddocks, especially not with other horses.
They could get hurt.
He already is hurt or you wouldn't be icing him.
(Clears throat) You know what, Amy? I really appreciate your input.
But I've worked with dozens of racehorses, so I think I know a little more about it than you do.
I'm just trying to help, Janice.
Fine.
You wanna do some massage or whispering or give him his vitamins and minerals or whatever, be my guest.
(Truck rumbles) Tim: Hey! Hey! What happened to the coffee? Nothing.
Except it's in Moose Jaw.
Okay.
All right.
Pull the truck over, Jack.
Let me out.
Hey, you want out, you're gonna have to jump.
- Oh, I will.
- Go ahead then, tuck and roll.
Trust me, I will.
And you'll be responsible for my death.
Promises, promises.
Let me outta the truck, Jack! Just think of it as a friendly intervention And an opportunity for you to settle this Shane thing once and for all.
All right.
Moose Jaw it is.
Actually, your timing couldn't be better 'cause I didn't get much sleep last night.
There's nothing like a long, boring drive to make up for it.
(Exhales) Kinda like the old rodeo days, huh, Jack? (Laughs) Me driving, you sleeping one off? Well, you just remember it was your idea.
So don't expect me to pay for gas.
Ha ha! Exactly like the old days.
They kept me up all night! And I checked the traps.
Nothing-- No footprints or scat anywhere near them.
Scott: There might be too many other options, in terms of food.
I mean, they didn't choose the place for the view.
(Diner door closes) Ty: Hey.
Amy: Hey.
Ty: Aren't you supposed to be at the track? Yeah.
Aren't you working with Janice? I thought I was, but Janice didn't.
I mean, she treated me like I was some horse crazy little girl! Well, she wasn't exactly interested in my professional opinion either.
Yeah, your dad knows a lot about horses, but he went along with her.
Yeah, it's 'cause as far as he's concerned, they're not doing anything wrong.
They're not breaking the law, they're not doing something that everyone else isn't doing.
It's just the way racehorses are trained.
And (Sighs) I don't know.
Maybe I'm making a big deal about nothing.
Maybe I should just forget about it.
Well, that sounds like a good idea, Amy.
You just leave it alone.
Probably best for everybody concerned.
Oh, very funny, guys.
Scott and Ty: (Laughing) Ty, my dad hired me to do a job, okay? I can't just sit here and watch this happen.
I'm gonna go deal with it.
I'll see you tonight.
Okay.
(Diner door opens) Jack: Okay, so just remember now, she's been a single mother for a long time now.
So you don't wanna dredge up the past and blame her for the way things worked out.
Yeah, I know.
Now's not the time to set her straight on how to raise her son.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, like I said, you want to build bridges, not burn 'em.
(Cell phone rings) Else the next time she moves, you might never find her.
Yeah, just hold that thought, Jack.
Hello.
Whoa, whoa, Janice Slow down, honey.
Well, I, I realize it's important.
But there's nothing I can do about it right now because I'm in Moose Jaw.
Well, it's just gonna have to wait 'til I get back.
Well, maybe you should hear what Amy has to say.
I mean, that's why I included her in the deal.
Janice: She doesn't know what she's doing! Okay (Janice shouts) Okay Okay, yeah.
Well, I gotta go.
Yeah.
I'll talk to you later.
Wow! Wouldn't you know it? You get me out on a road trip and everything starts to fall apart back home.
Okay, Amy, what the hell do you think you're doing? Amy: I told you.
My dad wants me to work with this horse and so far, you've ignored everything I've said.
Scott told you to ease back and I said the same thing.
So I'm just acting in my dad's best interest and taking the horse to Heartland.
Well, I think your dad's gonna have something to say about this.
Amy: Yeah? Why don't we call him then? Get him over here, we can work this out.
Don't bother.
I already talked to him.
Like I said, he left early this morning, so he's not coming back anytime soon.
(Door squeaks and clunks shut) All right.
Well, I'm still taking this horse to Heartland.
(Huffs) You know what, Amy? Fine.
Do what you want.
It's your dad's horse, if you wanna take this horse back home and give him some R and R, it's between you and him.
Who knows? Maybe while you're at it, you can teach him to jump a few fences like you did with Dexter.
(Truck engine starts) This is it? This is it.
And just in time too looks like.
Tim: Wish me luck.
Jack: All right.
Tim: Can I give you a hand? Miranda: What're you doing here? Tim: I wanted to see you, Miranda.
I wanted to talk to you.
You know, sort things out.
I wanted to see Shane.
Well, Shane's at school.
I'm hoping to get an early start tomorrow morning.
Well, why? Where're you going this time? Oh, see? This is exactly what I was trying to avoid.
Having to account to you for every little decision I make about where Shane lives or what he does.
No, you don't have to account to me for anything.
I just wanted to see my son-- our son.
I mean, that is why you came to Heartland in the first place, isn't it? Yeah, it was.
But now it's just a little more complicated.
Well, we're all trying to do our best here.
Yeah.
But you're just trying a little too hard, Tim.
Ever since you got that horse back for him, if he had his own way, he'd get on that damn bus every weekend and visit you.
I say he can't, and then suddenly you're the hero and I'm the bad guy.
Well, I'm not trying to turn him against you.
I mean, that's the last thing I wanna do.
Well, I guess he's just doing that on his own.
You know what? I don't get you.
First of all, you don't even tell me that I have a son.
And then you want Shane to have a dad, instead of filling his head with all these stories about some pretend rodeo star.
Except, Miranda, I'm the pretend rodeo star! Yeah.
Well, as far as I'm concerned, you're as fake as those stories.
So how about you just go back home to your real family and leave us alone.
You can't lie to him! I'm his father! I have proof! Agh! (Sighs heavily) (Door slams shut) Well, I guess you just love the smell of burning bridges.
(Ignition starts) Amy! Do you know what time it is? What're you doing? Amy: Well, the first plan would be to get him out of the trailer and all settled into the barn.
This is Cisco, my dad's new racehorse.
I think there's something wrong with his legs.
I don't care about the horse, I don't care about its legs.
You have a date with Ty; You need to get ready.
Ready? Mallory, I am ready.
It's just Ty.
He knows what I look like.
I don't have to put on something fancy.
You can't take him for granted! Mallory, I've got work to do.
Okay? Ty will understand.
I know I wasn't down with the whole Ty moves out thing, but now that you've made that choice, you have to make it work.
So I'll take Cisco, you go get ready.
And I don't mean ready like you don't stink too much of horses and manure.
I mean really ready.
Date ready.
(Sighs) Thanks.
(Spits) (Timer dings) (Oven door squeaks shut) (Under his breath) There we go.
All right Whew.
(Raccoon chatters quietly) Hey, Mallory? Is Amy around? She's in the house.
I'm glad you didn't overdo it.
Because if you show someone you care, next thing you know, they've torn out your heart and they're line dancing on it.
Ty.
You look great.
So do you.
Ty: No, really.
You look great.
So do you.
Mallory: Oh please! Get out of here now, or I swear, if I hear how great someone looks one more time, I'm gonna hurl! Come on.
Ty: Oh.
Let me get that.
Amy: Oh, thank you.
Ty: I got a pie for dessert, and it's your favourite-- Saskatoon Berry.
There is nothing too good for my girl.
Come on.
(Chattering) (Dishes clatter, glass shatter) Ty: Where'd he go? Wow.
And I thought Caleb was a slob.
Amy: Where did he go? Oh! Geez! Ty! (Laughs) He's under the bed! Oh! Okay, just, just Go really slow.
We don't wanna spook him.
And take the pressure off when he goes the right way.
Okay, we wanna make him think it's his own idea.
(Raccoon trills loudly) Amy: Get up, get up, get up! Where'd he go? (Distant chattering) Ty: He's over there.
(Raccoon trills) (Whispering) Okay okay.
Go from this side.
Okay.
(Chatters and squeals) Where'd he go? (Gasps) Geez, Ty! He's right here.
(Ty yelps, raccoon chatters) So much for our big romantic date, huh? What, you're not gonna bail on me, are you? We could always go back to Heartland and eat leftovers with Mallory.
Is that the best you can come up with? Well, what do you have in mind? Ty: I didn't know you liked die chop woi chow mein.
Amy and Ty: (Laugh) Amy: And I didn't know you were so good with chopsticks.
Ty: Well, when I was living with my dad, we ate a lot of takeout.
Too much takeout, actually.
That's why I taught myself how to cook.
You know, this plan of yours is working.
You move out and suddenly, we're learning all these new things about each other.
(Cell phone rings) Ah, it's Lou.
So, pick it up.
Hey, Lou.
(Exhales) Okay, well, I, I can't talk right now.
Uh yeah.
I'm sure Peter's mom is a total monster.
Come on.
No, look how Peter turned out.
It can't be that bad.
(Laughs) Kay, well, I can't talk.
I'm on a date right now.
No, with Ty.
Hey, Lou.
No, it's not unbelievable.
It's good.
It's nice.
Okay.
Bye.
Sorry.
It's good? Just nice? It's perfect.
But I just didn't want Lou to feel bad about being stuck in Estevan.
(Laughs) (Car rumbles by) Jack: Well, we're good to go.
The place is practically empty.
Tim: I wonder why? Well, it must be my lucky day.
I get to stay in some fleabag motel on the outskirts of Moose Jaw.
Jack: It's the only place with vacancies.
It's really starting to remind me of the old circuit days now, Jack.
Hey, all we need's a mini-bar that neither of us can afford.
You got yourself into this mess, so You only have yourself to blame.
Tim: I'm not blaming myself, Jack.
I'm blaming you.
(Grunts) You get the floor.
(Sighs heavily) (Birds chirp) (Door opens) (Keys jingle) (Truck rumbles off) Amy: Yeah, and then he looks at us all offended, like he owned the place and we just interrupted his private little raccoon dinner party.
You do know that raccoons are the number one carriers of rabies in North America? Oh, Mallory! There hasn't been a single documented case in Alberta! Okay? And you should've seen him.
He was so cute! Well, tell me how cute they are when you're writhing on your deathbed, foaming at the mouth, body twisted up like a pretzel That's gross.
Yeah.
You know what, Mallory? You've been like the voice of doom for days.
What's going on with you? Remember that Spring Fling? Amy: Yeah.
You went solo with Jake? Mallory: Yeah.
I know I said he was just giving me a ride.
But really, I was hoping that we could spend some time together and we could pick up where we left off.
I'm guessing that didn't happen? Mallory: The ride to the dance was great.
But as soon as we actually got there, I'd reminded him so many times that we were going solo he actually believed it.
The second we got out of the car, we didn't talk, we didn't dance.
I barely even saw him.
So much for if you love someone, set them free.
Well, maybe you should just be straight with him.
Maybe then he'll come around? Yeah, yeah.
And if he doesn't? It wasn't meant to be, aka the story of my life.
Mallory, these things take time.
These things take time? That's it? The pep talk? That's the best you've got? Wow, that sucks! Okay, maybe it did.
But I do know one thing.
What happened with Jake, that's not gonna be the story of your life.
Promise? No guarantees.
But I'll bet in a few weeks, you'll have forgotten all about him.
(Cell phone rings) (Phone beeps) Or not! It's a text from Jake.
He wants me to meet him at Maggie's! Can you please give me a ride? (Knocking) (Dog barks in the distance) Oh Jack, not you too.
Ah Miranda, wait.
Please, get your foot outta my door.
You can close the door on me.
But if you close the door on Tim, you'll never know what could've been, you'll never know if you made the right decision, and you'll never know how much your son could've gained from getting to know his father.
I'm sorry.
Then listen to this.
If you let Tim into your life, Shane won't just be gaining a father, he'll be gaining a whole family.
Yeah, that's the whole problem right there.
From your point of view, Shane stands to gain a whole new family.
Which is a good thing, yes.
But have you thought about what that does to me? I can't compete with you guys.
And I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my son in the process.
I understand how you feel.
I I do.
But now that the door's been opened, I'm not so sure you can close it again.
Believe me, Jack, I've thought about that.
A lot.
I know it's a tough decision.
But I'm here to ask you to think about it a little more before you decide.
Okay, I promise I'll think about it.
Okay.
You know you're not at all like the hard-ass son of a bitch Tim used to tell me about.
(Chuckles) Come on.
(Tv show plays) (Horn honks twice) (Horn honks) Tim: Whoa! God! What's going on? I thought you ditched me.
Where the hell you been? I picked up some breakfast.
So come on, we can eat on the road.
You've been gone for hours.
Now, suddenly, you're in a big rush? What about Miranda? Think we should try that one again? I don't know that that's such a good idea.
Shane needs to know who his father is.
Well, maybe it's Miranda's responsibility to tell Shane, and your responsibility to tell your daughters.
Okay! All right! I'll tell 'em.
As soon as Lou gets back.
Speaking of which, you know, Estevan's just a few miles up the road.
We could just stop in Meet the new in-laws.
Jack: I don't think so.
(Hoofbeats thud) Ty: Well, I'm still not sure how this is helping Cisco get ready for the track.
Amy: He's just getting used to the saddle and bridle and being around other horses.
And he's getting used to not being distracted by new things.
Well, maybe if you stopped blocking my way, I could help you out.
Well, he's gotta learn how to be the leader, not the follower.
Ty: Kinda like you? What does that mean, like me? Ty: You say you're trying to teach the horse how to be in the front, but I think it's you who wants to be in the lead.
Amy: No, that is not true at all.
I'm just seeing if has a competitive spirit.
Ty: Well, you know there's only one way to find out for sure.
Ty Ty, no! (Groans) Okay, fine.
Woo-hoo! (Raccoons squeak and chatter) Okay.
It comes down to two choices: Somewhere really close to Janice's trailer Or out by the Sheep river.
I call heads.
(Raccoons chatter) Heads it is.
Sheep river wins.
Best two out of three? Janice: So, you wanted to show me something? Tim: Cisco.
He's getting along well with the other horses, the swelling in his leg's gone down.
I'm glad you worked your differences out with Amy.
Well to be honest, Tim, lightening up the schedule, letting him be a horse for awhile None of that was really my idea.
Well, you didn't stand in her way.
Yeah.
Well, we'll just Take it slow, see what happens.
You all right with that? So far, so good.
(Cell phone rings) - I gotta take this.
- Sure.
Hello? Yeah.
Miranda, hi.
Yeah.
Oh, so you're not moving? Okay, good.
Good, great.
See? We're communicating now.
(Laughs) Okay, good.
Bye.
Ty: I don't know.
Are you sure about this spot? Well, yeah.
The river's right there, so they got lots of food and water.
It's okay, little guys.
And there are no houses around here, so I'd say it's pretty much perfect.
I guess.
(Raccoons squeal) Amy: You're not gonna miss these little guys, are ya? No way! I'm just making sure we're far enough away so there's no chance of them coming back.
'Cause if they show up again, I'm going for the gun.
Yeah, right.
Stand back.
Okay.
(Raccoons chatter and squeal) Amy: Bye, Rocky! Bye, Bullwinkle! Rocky? Bullwinkle? What're you talking about? Well, why not? Well, 'cause Rocky's a squirrel and Bullwinkle's a moose.
Yeah, so if Rocky's a squirrel, why can't Bullwinkle be a raccoon? (Laughs) ⪠I miss you when ⪠⪠I miss you when you're gone ⪠⪠I miss you when ⪠There he goes.
⪠I miss you when you're gone ⪠(Chatters)
