The Fosters s05e06 Episode Script
Welcome to the Jungler
1 Previously on The Fosters I'll make you a deal.
You don't play video games, - I don't get high.
- ANA: I did get this.
AJ: You guys are getting married? STEF: We're in a little bit of a situation with Cortney.
Gabe is back.
You need to figure out where she's sleeping tonight.
- Cortney, your ex-girlfriend? - So you are a human - who cares about other humans.
- Well, I care about keeping people from spreading hate.
So, what can I do? CALLIE: If your mom said that there was a witness - KYLE: Patrick Molloy.
- This is Gray's case.
He suppressed evidence in the initial investigation.
- Did you kill Martha Johnson? - What if I did? I am going to do everything in my power to get Gray and Molloy.
- Okay, what is your problem? - You're a liar, Mariana.
I have two things to tell you.
First, I've been working out with a roller derby team.
And second, Jesus had a seizure.
There are hospitals for intensive behavioral therapy.
You continue to act out like this, - and that's exactly where you're going! - I won't go back to school.
I can get my GED.
I'm 16.
I can drop out, it's my life! STEF: Did you know that dropping out of school is illegal? California is a compulsory education state.
You have to go to school until you're 18.
- What? So you're gonna arrest me? - If I have to.
Mama, seriously? The only way you can drop out is if you pass a proficiency test.
Okay, fine.
Okay, then you can take the test at school tomorrow.
Great.
Can I go now? Thank you.
Yeah.
I will be your bad cop any day, woman.
(SIGHS) What if he passes the test? He won't.
He's having problems with memory and comprehension.
The test is gonna show that, and we can use it to make our case for getting him an educational aide.
A few days ago, you didn't think he was ready to go back to school.
Well, a couple days ago, I hadn't threatened to send him away.
I don't think being trapped in the house is doing him or us any good.
He could still refuse to go, you know.
Well, if he does, I think you should arrest him.
I'm serious.
It's time for a little tough love around here.
(SIGHS) And now, they won't even let me see Emma, which is like total bull.
Because besides this with you and her, I have no life.
Well, it's Oh, whoa, whoa.
Hey, don't-don't touch that, buddy.
Mason, stay away from the tools.
I'm sorry.
He's hard to keep tabs on.
Well, that's not a problem.
We like having him around.
Oh, hey, um, I actually have something for him if it's okay.
- MASON: Donut.
- Sure.
Ok.
There you go.
- What do you say, Mason? - Thank you.
- Thank you.
- You're welcome, buddy.
And thank you again, for letting us stay here.
Yeah.
Thank Stef and Lena.
Okay.
Well, we gotta go.
'Cause they're a little judgy at school when we're late.
All right.
See you guys.
You know, I think what makes them so mad is that I'm not going back to school.
But I have a plan.
I mean, why don't we turn this into a business? You know, making tree houses? Uh, I mean, shouldn't you just finish high school? No, I can get my GED just like you did.
Yeah, in prison.
Look, I wouldn't do anything like I did.
I mean, I made a ton of mistakes when I was your age.
I think your moms are just trying to protect you, you know? Do you think you made a mistake with Ana? You know, like, not trying to be with her? Yeah.
Yeah, all the time.
Do you ever think about getting back together? (SCOFFS) She's with Mike.
Yeah, but they're not, like, married.
Here's the thing.
Choices you make today can stay with you your whole life.
And as far as Ana goes, do I wish It had been different? Yeah, I do.
You know, she was my first love, maybe the only one I'll ever have, but It's too late.
And you don't want to end up carrying around all that regret.
Trust me.
Oh, thank God.
- You win the lottery? - No.
I, uh, I wish.
I bought a thumb drive off a kid, full of pornographic films of boys.
We tracked down one of the boys, he gave us the name of the guy who made the videos.
- PD's bringing him in.
- I don't know how you do it everyday.
Yeah, me neither.
- What are you doing here? - So I asked Ana to marry me.
She said yes.
Wow, congratulations.
That's That's great, Mike.
You really think so? - Is she a lesbian? - No.
(LAUGHING) Then you're doing better than last time.
Does-Does Brandon know? Have you told him? Not yet, but Ana was gonna tell the twins today, if that's all right.
Yeah.
Yeah, of course.
Hey, Brandon's gonna be okay, right? I mean, given his history with Ana? I think he'll be happy that you're happy.
I am.
Very.
(THEME MUSIC PLAYING) It's not where you come from It's where you belong Nothin' I would trade I wouldn't have it Any other way You're surrounded By love and you're wanted So never feel alone You are home with me Right where you belong Since the election, there's been a huge rise in incidents of racist, homophobic, and xenophobic harassment across our country.
We've seen graffiti with statements like: "Make America white again.
" Jewish cemeteries vandalized, and kids chanting "build a wall.
" Shiloh McCullen has referred to immigrants as "third-world trash," and she said that people of color have contributed nothing to society.
If our university will not block this woman from spewing her hateful speech on our campus, then we will.
Where does the hate stop? - Here! - Where does the hate stop? Here! You agree with that? You don't? No.
Hey.
I was thinking maybe we should do something for Mike and Ana.
- Like what? - I don't know.
Something to celebrate their engagement.
What do you think? Uh, yeah.
Totally.
I think we should.
All right.
I'll see you later.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Sean, this is Aaron.
Aaron, this is Sean.
Good to meet you.
Aaron's in the five-year law program.
Cool.
I hope you'll join the protest, if it comes to that.
I don't think so.
I disagree with you all on this one.
Really? You into hate speech? No.
Uh, I'm into free speech.
And I think the best way to fight hate is to confront the hater, debate them publicly, expose their ignorance.
No, but it's not a debate.
I mean, it's a lecture where students aren't allowed to respond.
So we're exercising our First Amendment right to protest speech that incites discrimination and violence.
By physically blocking the speaker from speaking? She can say all the hateful things she wants out in the world, but why do we have to give her a platform? So, UCSD isn't part of the world? You think it's okay that the student group who invited Shiloh McCullen is paying to give her that platform? She doesn't come here for free, you know.
- Progressive speakers are paid, too.
- Whatever.
He doesn't get it.
It's not like you have anything to lose, right? - That's not true.
- Ah, it's okay.
Just a difference of opinion.
If you change your mind.
- Talk later.
- Yeah.
(CELL PHONE RINGING) One sec.
Hello.
Hi.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
No, yeah.
I'll be right there.
What? Kyle's out.
He's home.
everything to belong to you.
With videos of young boys being coached to perform sexual acts.
You know anything about that? Nope.
We have an expert who can identify your voice.
We have boys who can identify you, and we have a warrant to search your apartment.
What do you think we're gonna find there? You're going down.
There's nothing you can do about that.
But for how long? That's partly up to you if you cooperate.
- What do you want? - Names.
Of the men you share these videos with.
(INDISTINCT CHATTER) - (DOOR OPENS) - Ah, hey.
- Hi.
- What's up? Um, is Mariana here? Ah, actually, no.
She She's not home yet.
Oh.
Okay.
Um Uh, can I ask you a question? About Gabe? Sure.
Do you still Like, have feelings for him? Oh, well, what do you mean? Well, I know you're with Mike, and he's a great guy, but if you still think about Gabe Well, I mean, he Still thinks about you.
Oh.
Uh, how-how do you know that? Uh, he told me.
He said you're the only woman that he's ever loved.
(DOOR OPENS) Oh.
Hey.
What are you doing here? I just was in the neighborhood.
And I thought I'd come by and say hi.
Oh.
Well, hi.
(CHUCKLES) Hi.
- Okay.
Samuel's coming up behind you.
- Uh, sorry, sorry.
TAYLOR: Use your ultimate! Use your ultimate! NOAH: Um Hmm.
I'm sorry I suck so bad.
I Hey, I'm just glad that you're playing with us.
How about we extend our no-games, no-pot pact, like, forever? Yeah.
No.
(CHUCKLES) You just have to learn how to use your jungler.
There's a guy on YouTube that uploads his play sessions, and then gives tips on how to play.
OZOSICK: Keep your jungler out of sight, and use your ultimate when you get close enough.
And, combo.
Boom! Sit your ass down.
He's got, like, three million subscribers? He's a big deal.
The jungler is best when he gets a stormcrown.
Oh.
Get off my ass, faggot.
I'm not a homo, homo.
You like this guy? You just kind of have to ignore what he says.
TAYLOR: Yeah.
Why? - He's calling people faggots.
- That's right, bitch! Now go make me a sandwich.
Or better yet, sit on my face.
Wow.
Hey, can I borrow your phone so I can text Emma? No.
I'm already in enough trouble because of you.
Hey, what do you think about Scariana Adams Fost-gore? For what? - My derby name.
- Come on.
Moms are not gonna let you do roller derby, not after what happened to me.
Hey, uh, so did you guys hear about Ana and my dad getting engaged? What? Seriously? That's so cool! I mean, you're cool with that, right? Yeah.
I-I-I guess.
I wonder why didn't Ana tell us.
She was here earlier.
So are you Are you sure? That's what AJ told me.
(CELL PHONE VIBRATING) Uh, hang on.
Hey, Grace.
I wonder if Ana didn't tell us because of what I told her.
What did you say? That Gabe still loves her.
- He does? - Yeah.
That's what he said to me.
It'd be kind of cool if they got back together, right? Not for Mike.
Yeah, I know, but I mean, they were each other's first loves.
Wait.
That doesn't mean that they should be together now.
People rarely ever marry their first loves.
Some do.
As long as they don't screw it up.
Yeah, well I want to have lots of loves before I get married.
I don't.
I-I didn't know what to say.
Gabe insisted that she stay.
Yeah.
It-it's okay.
I get it.
I would like to meet her, though.
W-why? Because she's obviously gonna be in your life because of Mason.
Why don't you invite her to our thing tonight? - Really? - Yeah.
Why not? So use a different item.
Impressive.
I didn't know a girl could do that.
TAYLOR: Wow.
And who knew a homo could do that? And the crystal mine is ours.
We win.
Boom.
(LAUGHING) And that's how you kick ass in Vainglory without being a misogynistic, homophobic, douchebag.
- I love it.
- It's so awesome.
And now for the finishing touch.
TAYLOR: You're gonna tag him, right? JUDE: Uh, yeah.
We gotta make sure he sees this.
Hey, I didn't see you raised your skill tier last week? Yeah, almost tier ten.
(KNOCK ON DOOR) Cort? (INDISTINCT CHATTER) (INDISTINCT CONVERSATION) - Okay.
- Alright.
- So when did you get home? - Couple days ago.
Took a while after the judge um, - Vacated your conviction.
- Right.
We had to wait and see if they were gonna retry me again.
Well, why would they do that? Troy Johnson confessed.
They never like to admit they're wrong.
But you could sue them for wrongful conviction.
No.
No way.
I'm not gonna give them a reason to set me up again.
I'm gonna just lay low.
Maybe get out of state where they can't touch me.
I'm sorry.
For all the stuff that I said when you came to see me in Folsom.
I should have told you about the money I took.
It's okay.
Sheila gave me some make-up, but I can't cover it up too good.
I'm gonna get it removed.
Can I ask you Why did you want me to think you killed Martha? I guess since I'd given up on myself I just wanted you to give up on me, too.
- (KNOCK ON DOOR) - Hey.
You look snazzy.
Snazzy? I'm gonna change now.
(LAUGHS) Where you off to? Ah, Grace and I are performing at an open mic.
Oh, sounds fun.
Cortney's coming.
- Cortney? - Yeah.
Grace wants to meet her.
You know Yeah, I know.
Friends close, ex-girlfriends closer.
Hey, so there's something I want to tell you.
Ana and I are engaged.
Yeah, I, uh, I know.
You know? AJ told me at school.
I'm sorry, B.
I wanted you to hear it from me first.
- It's okay.
- Is it? You're okay with Ana? What do you mean? B, I know she took money from you.
But I want you to know, she's not the same person she was when she was using.
Yeah.
No.
- I know.
- So you're happy for me? Yeah, Dad.
Of course.
Good.
'Cause I want you to be my best man.
(LAUGHING) Hey, Cal? Hi.
How was Kyle? You saw Kyle? Yeah.
He's out.
And he's scared.
Sheila says that he's too afraid to leave the house.
He thinks that Gray's gonna come after him.
It's so unfair what Gray did to him.
He's just gonna get away with it? I'm trying to make sure that he doesn't.
How? (SIGHS) Scariana? It's my derby name.
Hopefully? Of a bicycle built for two It's built for two (CHEERS) That was The Accidental Quartet.
Nice blend, ladies.
Up next we have Matt Coxswain.
(CLEARS THROAT) So where did you hear about this place? Ah, Grace found it.
- They have really good bagels.
- Oh.
(PLAYING POLKA) The acts are really eclectic.
The plan is to work out the kinks and then play at a small club.
I try to do one thing a day that scares me.
Well this is mine for the day.
I'm kidding.
That's so sweet of you to bring wine.
Oh, yeah.
I got it from work.
Figured we might want some.
Good thing it's a screw top.
Oh, just Just a little.
I'm a lightweight.
By the way, Mason is so adorable.
- You know Mason? - Yeah.
We babysat him together.
Oh.
How nice.
Uh, cheers.
Cheers.
I just don't think I should be making any trouble.
You wouldn't be.
But I'd, like, be wearing a wire? Yes, but I would be close by, and I'm not gonna let anything happen to you.
Kyle, listen, if we get what we need on tape, you are gonna get justice, justice that you deserve.
And you're not gonna have to be afraid of Detective Gray anymore.
Hi.
Um We're Grandon Ol' Opry.
Still working on the name.
(CLEARS THROAT) Come what may But I can't look away No, no 'Cause when you smile I lose perspective of time From the fact that you're mine When you Smile There's no feeling like this You might not catch 'em although we'll never miss No, no We'll never miss (GROANS) Too much Middle English? I think I just read anold-timey fart joke.
- Seriously.
- Mm-hmm.
(CELL PHONE CHIMING) One of your comrades? No chance you wanna go to civil disobedience training tomorrow? No.
And I think you should be careful.
Some of these protests are turning violent.
Well, that is what the training is for, to teach us how to peacefully resist.
I'm just saying.
Sean and his P-SAC group, they're not the most level-headed people on campus.
I'm sorry about what Ximena said today.
Intolerance rubs both ways.
It doesn't mean I don't get it.
I know.
I think she just sees you as Like a privileged, white male.
Yeah, but that privilege can be instantly taken away if I'm arrested or if I get in a car accident.
I know.
But if any ICE agent asks her if she's undocumented just because she looks Latina She's not undocumented if she's enrolled in DACA.
Okay, but they did deport a DACA student recently, and he did nothing wrong.
- Look, I'm on your side.
- No, I know, I know.
But, um, she can't hide that she's Latina.
You think that I'm hiding? No.
It's not deceptive of me to not disclose my private medical information.
No, I am I'm sorry.
I didn't mean it that way.
I'm just saying, like People look at you and they have no idea what you've been through or how hard you've had to fight - to be who you really are.
- Which is why people need to talk about things, not just dismiss each other.
They need to hear from the people they might be hurting.
I don't think they wanna hear from the other side.
Or they would come to debate, not to give paid speeches.
We need to stand up against these people and stand with the people who are less protected and fortunate than we are.
Just be careful how you stand up.
Because after what happened with Kyle and Diamond This isn't the same sort of situation.
And I'm not ashamed of standing up for Kyle or for Diamond.
They're both - better off because I did it.
- I'm not And I'm not breaking the law or putting myself in danger, okay? I'm exercising my right to peacefully resist, okay? - So please do not patronize me.
- Wha We'll never miss (VOCALIZING) We'll never miss All right.
Anyone else out there who didn't sign up, who wants to perform? We have the place till 10:00.
You guys were great.
EMCEE: How about you in the brown dress? You look like someone who's got talent.
- Oh, no, I can't sing.
- Yes, you can.
No excuses now.
Um, I'm not going up there alone.
You should go.
It'll be fun.
Plus, you get two free bagels.
Okay.
- MAN: All right.
- (APPLAUSE) What will you two be performing? Well, um We kind of only know one song.
(PIANO PLAYING BRIGHT MELODY) Animal crackers in my soup Monkeys and rabbits loop the loop Gosh, oh, gee, but I have fun Swallowing animals one by one BOTH: In every bowl of soup I see Lions and tigers watching me I make 'em jump right through a hoop Those animal crackers in my soup MAN: All right.
There we go.
So I sort of had a fight with Aaron.
Am I supposed to care? Okay, I'm sorry I went off on you the other night, after the party.
I was being judgmental.
And self-righteous, and hypocritical - and - Okay, I'm trying to make up.
Okay.
I forgive you.
So does Ximena know you didn't tell moms that you were practicing with the team? If I tell you, are you gonna go off on me again? So she doesn't.
I thought you needed, like, a permission slip? I might have forged their signature.
Mariana, why? Because I don't have any friends at school anymore.
And I need to feel like I belong somewhere, that somebody wants me on their team, and everyone at derby's so supportive of each other.
- I need that.
- (KNOCK ON DOOR) Hey.
Uh, I just wanted to say good night and, uh, talk to you.
So, I, uh, I spoke to Mom about.
I'm afraid the answer is no.
I'm sorry, honey, but after Jesus and everything he went through with his TBI, we just can't risk you getting hurt.
- Whoa.
- (CHUCKLES) - (SIGHS) - You okay? Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
- That wine was so delicious.
- Oh.
Yeah.
How much did you have to drink? Not that much.
I don't - What - Oh.
- Hey.
- (GRACE COUGHING) - Sorry.
- Oh.
It's okay.
We've all been there.
You are so pretty.
So are you.
You guys sounded so good together.
Uh So did we.
We sounded good together.
You sounded great together.
- Really? - Yeah.
- Really? - Yes.
Okay.
Oh.
- (GRACE COUGHING) - Okay.
Hey, thanks for, you know, taking care of her and stuff tonight.
And for coming out, I know it's kinda rough on a Mason-free night.
I understand why she wanted to meet me.
She's sweet.
Young.
She's a year older than me, actually.
She's just kinda Grew up sheltered, I don't know.
She's not used to partying in bagel shops.
No, it's a good thing.
You're too mature sometimes.
Well, good night.
Night.
I've been squashing trolls all day, but every time I block one, three more pop up in its place.
Yep.
That's what happened when I came out at church.
It's why I hate the Internet.
And someone took our video down from YouTube.
I did.
Why? It's rule number one, don't feed the trolls.
But taking it down, showing them that they've won? That's like a troll feast.
Yeah, but it's my account, I don't want the hassle.
We were right to post that video.
Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you.
Though I guess that makes us even since you obviously broke our deal so you could raise your tier or whatever last week.
Okay, I'm sorry, but does it really matter what I do when we aren't together? It does if you lie about it.
Pat.
Kyle.
Oh, my God.
I heard you were out.
How you doin', man? I'm okay.
Um, you got a sec? There's something I wanted to ask you.
How come you didn't testify at my trial? Don't you remember I was at the Boys and Girls Club? - We watched the Clippers game.
- PAT: No.
That's why I didn't testify.
I didn't remember that.
I'm sorry, man.
You wanted me to watch it with you, alone.
Now, what's all this about, man? I just want the truth.
Did Detective Gray offer you a deal not to testify for me? Look, I just want to understand.
I ain't mad.
I ain't gonna tell anyone.
I just want the truth, and then you'll never see me again.
I I just gotta know.
I don't know what you're talking about.
And if you come around here again, I'm gonna call the cops.
Maybe I'll even call Gray himself.
You got that? Hey.
Hey.
Look, I'm really sorry about last night.
Me, too.
I really wanna be supportive of everything.
- You mean that? - Yes.
Yeah? Do your moms know that you're here? Did you sneak out? No, no, no, I didn't.
I didn't.
I had to take a proficiency test, so that I can legally drop out.
(CLEARS THROAT) How'd you do? Uh, good, I think.
Um, but anyway I have something for you.
(GIGGLES) I know it's not fancy, but I made it with Gabe.
It's beautiful.
I wanted to give it to you, as a promise ring, you know, until I can get you something Nicer.
Emma.
I don't wanna have any regrets in my life.
And I know that you You're the one, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
- Hi.
- You forged your permission slip? I'd like to talk to your moms.
MJesus, we're Only 16.
Yeah, yeah.
I know.
I'm not saying that we'll get, like, married right now.
I'm gonna go to college.
- Maybe far away.
- That's fine.
Then I'll go wherever you're goin'.
I mean, I can do construction literally anywhere.
- So much can change.
- Not if we don't let it.
I want change.
I want grow and learn and We're good.
We 'Cause we could do all of that together.
Not if you drop out of school.
Education is Extremely important to me.
And I (SIGHS) Can't really see myself marrying someone who's Willfully throwing that away.
Are there bruises? Yes.
But they heal.
And what they leave behind is a feeling of empowerment.
Roller derby is a place you can be yourself with no judgment, where girls become brave, confident, and strong.
It's like what Mom was trying to teach me with self-defense, - but it works.
- (SCOFFS) Okay.
What about concussions? XIMENA: They happen, but not a lot.
We've been trained in recognizing the signs.
If a girl takes a blow to the head, she's out of the bout and examined immediately.
You can fall and hit your head anytime, Mama.
XIMENA: I understand you're worried, but in the short time Mariana's practiced with us, I've seen her confidence grow.
I've seen a girl who I think feels safer in the world.
And I'm surrounded by girls who look like me.
I've never had a group of friends that were all badass Latinas.
And they all have my back.
XIMENA: Derby's like a family.
- Please, Mama.
- (SIGHS) Okay.
Let me Let me talk to Mom.
- (CELL PHONE CHIMING) - Thank you.
Um, we have something on campus, - so I won't be home for dinner.
- Okay.
- Thank you so much.
- De nada.
You need to get me a real signed permission slip.
And if you make the team, you'll sit out the first game, at least.
Okay.
Sorry.
And thank you.
Bye.
(JUDE SIGHS) Okay.
You ready? TAYLOR: Three, two, one.
JUDE: Hey, everyone.
We're GirlAndGayGuy.
And welcome to our Vainglory play session.
Our live streams are for you guys out there who love playing the game, but without all that other negative baggage.
And to all you OzoSick Stans, we're not afraid of you.
All right, you take a lane, I'm gonna jungle for a while.
Jungler Jude, got it.
I'm banning all new nicknames.
Um, I'm ignoring that ban.
Call out if you get rushed.
- I'm gonna go and CP your weapon.
- I'm gonna CP this time, but I might change it up if they've got a lot of defense.
Looking good, looking good.
Ah.
Got 'em.
TAYLOR: Now don't forget to use any help you can find.
JUDE: Yeah, you totally need your allies to get into enemy territory.
This is bonkers.
Kyle, listen to me.
I will not let anything happen to you.
I'm gonna get Molloy, and when I do, I will make sure that he turns on Gray, - and we're gonna put 'em both away.
- I never should have done this.
- I promise you.
- You've got nothing on them.
How can you promise? Hey, so, I'm not gonna drop out of school.
- Hard test? - No.
Well, I mean, yeah, kind of, I guess.
But no, I-I-I ran into Emma, and she won't marry me if I don't finish school.
So I'll get assessed, get a babysitter, whatever it takes.
SEAN: The goal of civil disobedience is nonviolent resistance to authority by the people.
Gandhi used it to expel the British, and Martin Luther King used it in the fight for civil rights.
And we'll do the same if we're not heard.
All right, let's lock it up.
So when a police officer lays a hand on you, you go limp.
Do not resist, but don't help the police either.
Make them carry you or drag you away.
Thank you.
Everyone's gonna need a plan.
You need phone numbers of people you can call to come bail you out.
Wait, um Sorry.
Are saying there's a chance we could get arrested? More than a chance.
Getting arrested is the goal.
- Arrests mean more attention.
- MAN: Yeah.
Real change, it doesn't happen without real resistance.
Anyone here not willing to do what needs to be done, you are welcome to leave.
You okay? Hey.
So, uh, has Ana told you guys - about her and my dad yet? - No.
I hope Jesus didn't confuse her.
Hmm, what do you mean? I guess Gabe told him that he still has feelings for Ana, and then, he told Ana.
I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.
She loves your dad, and she obviously said yes.
You know, Jesus, ever since his TBI, he's confused.
- Yeah.
- Ugh.
No one ever takes the trash out.
I'll do it.
Thanks.
(WOMAN CHUCKLES) Hey! (THEME MUSIC PLAYING)
