The Amazing Race (2001) s06e02 Episode Script

I'm Not His Wife -- He Doesn't Need to Scream at Me

Phil Keoghan: Previously on "The Amazing Race" 11 teams started out from downtown Chicago and raced all the way to the country of Iceland.
Iceland, baby.
Married professional wrestlers Lori and Bolo began in good spirits Lori: I was so cold my implants are frozen.
Phil: But the heat of the battle caused them to melt down.
Keep runnin' your mouth like a dumbass redneck.
Phil: On again, off again couple Adam and Rebecca made a costly mistake.
Is it gas or diesel? It's diesel.
Is that bad? Phil: Married entrepreneurs Jonathan and Victoria were at each other's throats.
See where it says Seljaland? I don't know! I'm not reading the map! Phil: High school buddies Avi and Joe made an alliance with father-daughter team Gus and Hera.
But when it counted most, Avi and Joe lost their trust.
I don't trust this guy 100%.
Let me go take a look around.
Phil: And checked in last.
Avi and Joe, you've both been eliminated from the race.
Now 10 teams remain.
Who will be eliminated next? Phil: This is Iceland, known as the land of fire and ice.
This country is built on a combination of glaciers and active volcanoes, and in the middle of this lava field are mineral hot springs called the Blue Lagoon.
This was the first pit stop in a race around the world.
Teams arrived here at the end of the last leg for a mandatory rest period.
The 10 teams waiting here have no idea what's in store for them.
They have to figure out how to get to the next yellow and red marker by solving clues they'll find in sealed envelopes.
Will Jonathan and Victoria's constant fighting slow them down or be a motivating force? And will Gus and Hera rebound from last place? Hayden and Aaron, who were the first to arrive at 4:57 P.
M.
, will depart at 4:57 A.
M.
Teams must now fly more than 1,000 miles to Oslo, Norway.
When they land, teams must drive themselves 35 miles to this Oslo icon, the Holmenkollen ski jump.
It is here they'll find their next clue.
Aaron: Hayden and I met 10 months ago.
I'm still learning new things about her.
Stop no, no, no.
Right here.
Don't yell at me.
You're telling me to calm down? You need to calm down, too.
Hayden can be bossy, but that's her personality, and I love that about her.
Fly to Oslo, Norway.
This is the road, right? This is the road.
Make a left here.
The fact that Kris and I don't argue a lot is to our advantage because it keeps us focused on what we need to be doing.
Fly to Oslo, Norway.
Oslo, that rocks.
So when we get out here, you're gonna take a left.
Lena has been good at listening to me when I give direction.
I wouldn't mind a little more input.
I feel like I'm the strong one making decisions.
Yes, mother.
181, let's go.
Perfect.
Going straight to the airport.
You're dead set on going straight to the Straight to the airport.
No doubt.
Freddy: It's important for me to be there for her in every aspect, as long as I'm proving to her I'm steady, it will calm her down.
And it always works.
Fly to Norway.
Here we go.
Jonathan: This race shows you all the things you don't like about yourself.
You need to try to rise above those things.
Let's go.
Stop panicking.
I'm not panicking.
Then stop whining.
I'm not whining.
Victoria: I hope that this race will evolve the relationship between Jon and I to a more positive place.
You have $181 for this leg of the race.
Bolo: What I love about Lori is her determination to succeed in life.
That's made me a lot stronger in my life.
Let's go to the airport.
Before I met her, I was getting put in jail and beating people up, and I want to win this for Lori because she deserves it.
Drive yourselves to Holmen your next clue will be there.
When push comes to shove, we come together.
We are a team despite our bickering.
There's no passing right now, Adam.
The speed limit is Rebecca! Rebecca, honey, can you sit back and enjoy the ride? Thank you.
Fly to Oslo.
Meredith: Maria is the best person to have by my side during this race because she knows me so well.
The men in Oslo are very handsome.
Maria: Meredith and I keep positive attitudes no matter where we go.
That is the best thing we have going for us.
Let's go.
Don thinks he's in charge of everything.
OK, M.
J.
, watch for the thing.
Is that the way we came in? No, we go left.
I let him know right away that's not the way it is.
Fly to Oslo, Norway.
OK, let's go.
Gus: Hera and I carry the same baggage that we had at the start.
And that's we're both stubborn.
Calm down.
I'm calm.
Take a deep breath.
I know.
I'm fine.
Just tell me where to go.
Follow the things saying airport.
Who is that? Turn here.
I don't think that there's gonna be a gas station there.
They're turning back there.
Because they don't know where to go.
I think there's blue-haired guy.
Are you sure? It was a blue-haired guy.
It's up here.
It's got to be up here.
Baby, where are you going? Go up here and make a left.
Let's go to Norway.
Let's go.
Got to be it.
Should we just park here? Come on, baby.
Let's go.
Let's go.
We need tickets to Oslo, ones we can get there the quickest.
We need to go to Oslo.
Come on, baby.
Come on.
Let's go.
I'm trying.
Let's go.
4 tickets.
4 tickets.
It looked as though there were a lot of seats left open, so we'll probably all be on the same flight.
Phil: All 10 teams are on the same flight to Oslo, Norway via Copenhagen, Denmark.
We got off the plane first.
This is parking.
Marked cars.
Right here.
Don, straight across.
What are you doing? I can't find it! Then why are you going there? Duck down.
Duck down.
It's up there! OK, here.
Right here.
OK, just calm down.
I'm driving? Let's go.
What's your name? Ollie.
I'm Lena.
We were approached by a man in the airplane, and said that if we like, his son could come with us and show us where to go.
Would you volunteer if we were big hairy men? No.
I don't know how to start the car.
We're not as good at driving stick as we are at driving automatic.
I'm not going to be any better at it.
Just stalled it again.
[Honking.]
What's going on? She doesn't know how to drive a stick.
What's going on? I can't even get the car to start.
Come on.
I stalled again.
Let's let them go around.
Guys, go around.
Which way? Straight.
Keep going straight.
There we go.
All right.
At least we're moving now.
Crap, we went too far.
We were supposed to get off there.
I can't believe we got lost.
This is horrible.
I'm looking for the ring 3.
How do I get there? Go back on the highway that way.
OK.
Thank you.
We're way off the map.
This was the part we were going to be good at.
We weren't going to be as strong as the kids, but we were going to be smarter.
What happened? Tell me where to exit! There's nothing on here.
There's nothing for me to go on.
Go back.
Yeah, go back.
You'll have a one We keep taking the wrong ones! Shut up! Victoria has some challenges within herself.
I'm upset you couldn't make a decision, and you're going to blame it on me.
Her worst quality is that she's a panicker.
I'm not going to blame it on you.
You are.
You're like Victoria, stop it! Just tell me where to go so we can go! I told you where to go.
Look where we are! I hope I don't stall out at the toll thing.
I did it.
I stalled.
Don't worry, you'll get it.
See the sign up there? Second on top Holmenkollen.
Holmenkollen.
It's up here.
We're going to make a right up here.
As a geography major in school, I know where we're going and how to get there.
Oh, yeah.
There it is.
Roadblock.
Roadblock.
Who's ready to perform an Olympian feat? A roadblock is a task that only one person may perform.
In previous races, teams chose, without restriction, which member of their team would complete the roadblock.
Now, no person can perform more than 6 roadblocks in the entire race.
In this roadblock, one team member has to climb to the top of the highest ski jump in Scandinavia, then ride a zip line 1,000 feet to the bottom, where they'll receive their next clue.
You do it.
You do it.
Go ahead, baby.
Go ahead.
All right.
I'm deathly afraid of heights.
I don't do things like this.
This is crazy.
Oh, my God.
3, 2, 1, go.
This is sweet! Go, baby, go! Damn, that was sweet.
Find the rock Viking village.
Phil: Teams must now drive more than 50 miles to the village of Brandbu and find this traditional Viking village.
Here they'll receive their next clue.
Let's go.
I'm doing this.
Oh, my gosh, I'm doing this.
3, 2, 1, and go.
Oh, my gosh! Whoo! [Screaming.]
All right, Kristy! I was so scared.
You don't understand.
Find the Brandbu Viking village.
Ollie! Ollie! We're going to the Viking village.
More gas.
I can't.
I can't.
I can't do it.
I can't do it, Mere.
It's OK, Maria.
I can't do this.
I'm so sorry.
So sorry.
There you go.
Good job, Maria.
There's the flag.
There's the flag.
Now let's play.
Yes, yes, yes! Do you see the flag? Come on, come on! Roll, roll, roll.
Adam, hurry.
Who's ready to perform the Olympic feat? Do it.
I'll do it.
Got to decide.
Go, go, go! Can you do it? We need to decide.
I understand that.
I guess I'll do it.
Are you going to wimp out on me? Are you committing to it? Adam: I got up there, looked down, and was like, what am I doing? Ugh, going to have a heart attack.
Tell my mom I love her, please.
The helmet.
Whoo! Bolo! You don't like the heights, do you? No.
Let's go! Oh, my God.
When I say go, you're going.
Come on, Adam! I love my mom.
3, 2, 1, and go.
Aah! Oh, no! Whoo! You did good, baby! I need an ambulance.
So proud of you! Viking village.
OK, let's do it.
Babe, are you proud of me? So proud of you.
Who's ready to perform an Olympic feat? You.
OK, go ahead.
Oh, man.
Roadblock.
Who's ready to perform an Olympian feat? I'm ready.
This is all you.
Yeah! Whoo! Yeah! And go.
Whoo! This is awesome! Viking village.
Thank you.
OK, let's go.
In here.
Here.
Here.
Ollie, you are a savior.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Bye! We love you! I see something up there.
Welcome to a traditional Viking village.
Phil: In the morning, the 10 teams here will be split into two large teams of 5.
It's up to them to pick which teams will race these two Viking ships across the fjord to this marked dock.
Here they will find their next clue.
Oh, boy.
The boats will not be allowed to depart until 7:00 A.
M.
OK, now what? Ring 3? Go right? Yes.
Isn't this where we were before? I have no idea.
See it up there? That's got to be it.
Up where? Who's ready to perform an Olympic feat? I guess it's me.
There it is.
Here.
Roadblock.
Who's ready to perform an Olympian feat? I'm going to have to do it.
But, Don! I was furious.
I wanted to do it.
I was here 52 years ago.
I came up the stairs a lot easier.
17 versus 69.
Whew.
Don and I had an agreement.
When it involved heights, I would do it because it doesn't require strength.
We got here.
He says, "I can't let you do this," and he's gone.
I'm pissed.
Seconds away.
We going down tandem, Jon? Whoo! Drive yourself to the Viking town and find the Viking village.
We made an agreement that I would do it.
It's right there! Stop it.
I cannot back up right here.
You're pissing me off.
I'm sorry.
The entire night Honey.
All you did was yell at me.
Yell, yell, yell.
How far away are we? Thank you, sir.
You're doing a really good job.
You are.
I held it.
I held it.
There you go.
There's someone there.
Ask them.
Ask them.
Excuse me? Go down to the triple thing, come around, and go to the left.
Jon, write it down.
You want a pen? Write it down because you're not going to remember.
I'm trying, Victoria.
You haven't written anything down.
Back off.
You're going to not remember! You didn't write anything down.
I know where I'm going.
I know what he told me to do.
This is what you wrote down? I mean, come on.
Show me which city we're going to.
You're not helping.
This is the road.
It's the map.
Can you see anything more than I can? So don't get mad.
How can this be? There's something up there.
No, we're on a dirt road.
This is obviously not right.
There it is.
It's right there.
Let's go! I've got to get the flashlight.
I got it.
I got it.
Wait for me! Yee-hah! We are number one.
No, we're not.
You're a whiner and a complainer, and we're number one.
We're not number one.
There's people here.
What number are we? We're 3? Yes.
I knew that the teams were not smart enough to find this.
She had no confidence in me.
But I knew.
I'm so proud of you.
This game teaches you about yourself.
I cannot believe it.
You owe me an apology.
I'm sorry.
You owe me a big apology.
I'm really sorry.
You need to look inside yourself and do something different.
Lena: We actually like Victoria, but Jon is pretty mean to her, so we don't like him.
He is just really aggressive and harsh.
I am so proud of myself.
OK, there's the box.
Welcome to a traditional Viking village.
Who's ready to perform an Olympian feat? I'll do it.
And go! Hayden: I'm frustrated because Aaron and I were first yesterday.
I have no idea if we're last right now.
I'm sure we can get it worked out if we can get through this.
As long as we're not last.
Sweet.
Let's go.
Welcome to the traditional Viking village.
Whoo! Hey, guys.
Welcome to a traditional viking Village.
Welcome to a traditional Viking village.
Let's go.
Welcome to a traditional Viking village.
Good job.
There's a flag.
Go left.
Right over here.
Who's ready to perform an Olympian feat? I am.
Take a zip line 1,000 feet to the bottom.
Oh, my gosh.
What did I get myself into? Meredith: She needs an exciting end to today because she worked really hard.
She's a good teammate.
Do you feel me shaking? Keep your eyes open.
Oh, my God! Aah! Yeah, Maria! This is awesome! Yeah! Oh, yeah.
All right.
On our way.
Oh, my God.
I hate this place.
I think we're last.
Welcome to a traditional Viking village.
Baby, don't act mad.
Yeah, that's it.
Down to the left.
We found the Viking village, thankfully.
That was exciting to know that we weren't so far behind.
The tension right now is high.
We've combined up in different teams of 5.
We've got myself and Lori, Rebecca and Adam, Hayden and Aaron, Kris and Jon, and the two sisters.
On my boat we have my father and I, Jonathan and Victoria, the two New York girls, Freddy and Kendra, and the older couple.
Bolo: All the strong people will be on the first boat, and all the out of shape people on the second, so that's going to cause some hell.
[Blowing horn.]
Bolo: OK! Steady.
Let's speed it up.
Lori: Everyone was working together, staying in sync with each other.
And we were all there for one purpose, and that was to beat the other boat.
Gus: We had the worst rowing crew in the history of rowing.
Jonathan: Stop it! Victoria: I'm trying.
Pick it up and don't do it.
Meredith: Jonathan was yelling at me, and I was already emotional.
Man: OK, oars on board that side.
Pull them in.
We did a great job, and kicked their butt.
Route info.
Take a train to the town of Voss.
Phil: Teams must now find the train station in the town of Honefoss and take a train to the town of Voss.
Once there, they must drive approximately 5 miles to this bridge and find their next clue.
Wait for us! We'll travel together to get ahead of this other group.
Jonathan: What's going on on this side? Can't do it if you don't follow me.
The person in front of you is leading! Freddy, grab everything.
I'll take everything off.
Take the train to the town of Voss.
What happened to the clue? You have it.
Might have dropped out.
I didn't give it to you? Go back to the clue box.
Got a new one.
I'm sorry.
Didn't seem like there was a lot of spirit in the boat.
There was no spirit in the boat.
And Jon was yelling at the girls.
Jon is yelling at me, and my oar gets caught, like I meant to do that.
He's screaming at me.
I'm not his wife.
He doesn't have to scream at me.
I see where it is on the map.
That's good.
- Left or right? - I don't know.
Which way? Why'd he go back in here? Driving around like idiots.
Stay on Lori's ass.
Turn around.
Left, left, left! - It says Honefoss station.
- Take a right.
Good eyes.
Good eyes.
Hi.
Two to Voss.
Hey, the girls are here.
Good job, guys.
The other teams aren't here yet.
Really? Guess what I lost? Your sunglasses? I took them off because you told me to, and they fell in the boat.
If you ever tell me to take glasses off again, I'm never going to talk to you for the rest of my life.
Do you understand me? Thanks, Rebecca.
Thank you very much.
I have no glasses.
- Got your bags? - Get your bags.
Let's go.
OK, here.
Is there a senior discount for old people? Yes.
Wonderful.
Getting old is great.
Our relationship is so bad all the time.
It's not bad all the time.
It's not.
And it's going to be so over very soon, I think, because I can't do this.
What was the name of that town, Voss? I'm losing my feel for you.
It's going away.
Maybe it'll come back.
I don't know.
It's going away, and I don't know what to do about it.
It makes me not want to be with you.
Do you want me to jump in the tracks? I'm going to jump in the tracks.
You're such a drama king.
I'm gonna jump in the tracks if that'll make it better.
OK, we're all in here.
This was a big fight, but when he's sorry, his whole demeanor changes, and he's a different person.
And he's very caring and loving and very remorseful.
I can feel it.
Go, honey, go.
How'd they get out? I don't know.
I think I'm first.
I think we're in first.
I have no clue.
I don't see anyone in front of me.
That's the lake.
Here's the bridge.
That's the bridge right there, Lori.
Drive, drive, drive.
Don't worry about it.
There you go.
That a girl.
- Let's go.
- Here we go.
- Detour.
- Endurance or accuracy.
Phil: A detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons.
In this detour, teams have to choose between endurance and accuracy.
In endurance, they have to roller ski.
Once they've completed a 1 3/4 mile course, teams will receive their next clue.
In accuracy, teams must successfully complete 3 games traditionally played by Vikings.
In one, they must toss the sticks to knock over these logs before knocking over the king in the center.
Then only one team member must throw an ax.
Once the ax is stuck, the other team member shoots an arrow into this target 30 feet away.
We're gonna do endurance.
I don't know how to roller ski.
Let's do accuracy.
But you've got to be accurate.
Roller ski.
Let's go.
Roller ski.
Roller ski.
Would make sense.
It's faster.
OK, let's do it.
We'll roller ski.
I don't know how to roller ski.
It's archery and stuff.
Are you good at that? Who cares? Let's try it.
The one in the middle, you have to take it last.
Damn it! Sorry, babe.
What is it with me? Let's do accuracy.
Come on.
Let's do accuracy.
Your legs are hurting.
They actually played this in ancient times? This is the biggest waste of time I've ever seen.
Good job.
Come on, baby.
Ski like you're water skiing.
Pick up your toes to turn.
Keep your balance.
This is not easy! I know, girl.
I was trying hard not to laugh, but it was hilarious watching her bounce across the pavement.
This is stupid! I can't ski.
Kristy, snowplow.
Step apart.
We're switching.
This is not safe.
Aaron, come on.
You can lift them up like a shoe.
This is not safe.
We're doing two miles of this? Are you joking me? Sweetie, come here.
Snowplow.
I'm sorry.
I thought we could do this.
He's falling.
Come on, baby.
Honey? Aaron, baby? Come on, baby! Baby? Aaron, do you see what I'm doing? Yes! Well, you're not answering, honey.
Pass her.
Bolo: Come on, Lori.
Keep your feet up.
Come on, they're catching up.
I think we can do the Viking games.
I have no aim.
Good.
Done.
Slow down.
I can't.
Sweetie, be careful.
Go, girl.
Yes, yes, yes! I'm going to throw the ax.
Gus: Oh, God.
Take both hands like this, and pitch it like that.
My father is very good at accuracy and skill.
One thing this race has made me realize is he sometimes does know best.
Done.
Yes! You do it.
Don't go anywhere near that king.
I'm sorry.
Dude, we've got to roller blade.
What do you think? Keep them together.
Rebecca! Slow and together.
Oh, yeah! Nice shot.
OK, let's go.
Drive yourself to the next pit stop.
Phil: Teams must now travel 15 miles to Nesheimstunet.
This 1,000-year-old traditional farm in the Norwegian countryside, is the pit stop for this leg of the race.
The last team to check in here may be eliminated.
Thank you.
That was good.
The last team is eliminated.
Oh, God, I'm going to run into the hay.
Honey, I'm so sorry.
Please find the humor in this.
Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry.
Let's go.
You do the bow and arrow, and I'll throw the ax.
Mary Jean: I've never hit a target in my life.
Yes! You got it? I know you can do it.
Let's go.
The bow.
Are we the last? The New York girls are still on the pegs.
There's a gas station.
Go, go, go! Take E-16 all the way.
The E-16.
The ax sucks.
Not even getting it in.
I'm not good at this.
You should have had me do the other thing.
Take your time.
You're doing great.
Leave me alone, please! I spent an entire semester of college.
I never hit the bail.
How many times have I told you that? Where we made our great mistake is not remembering Mary Jean had difficulty with the bow and arrow.
Who made the mistake? I did.
Thank you.
Yeah! Last team may be eliminated.
Please tell me you know where this is.
To the left.
There was no coordination in that.
That last team may be eliminated.
To the right.
Right? The last team may be eliminated.
Where do I go? Left.
Warning, the last team may be eliminated.
Tell me where to go.
I have no idea.
Get the map out and look.
Welcome to Norway.
Thank you.
Phil: Kris and Jon you are team number one.
You are the lucky winners of a 7-night cruise in Alaska, courtesy of Royal Caribbean International.
That's it! Warning, the last team may be eliminated.
Go west.
They're still there.
Yes! Yes! Oh, that's Gus.
We can beat them in a running race.
We've got to get out quick because there's a car right behind us.
What's up, Phil? Phil: Jonathan and Victoria, you're team number two.
Phil: Gus and Hera you're team number 3.
That's good.
Phil: That's real good.
Aim it down some.
There you go.
Yeah! Ha ha ha! Drive yourselves to the next pit stop.
Come on, let's go.
We need to stop at the first place we can and find out where this place is.
I think we're heading in the wrong direction.
Yes! Let's move on.
Neck and neck with us.
It's a race to the pit stop.
Does that count? Yes.
It stuck in there.
Quickly, quickly.
Grab your shoes.
Let's go.
Come on.
Come on.
Where's the car? Move.
Move.
This isn't our car! This isn't our car.
What? This is not our car.
You've got to be kidding me.
This is ours.
Yeah.
No, this isn't ours.
This one? OK.
This is not your car! We've got to go back.
No, we don't.
We can't pick up their stuff.
It's stealing.
This is not good.
That's our car! That's our car! This is our car! You took our car! Go, go, go.
Quickly, quickly.
Come on! Pull the brake! Where are we going? It's OK.
Do you know where that is? Go to the right.
There's a road there? Yes.
Thank you so much.
Phil: Hayden and Aaron you're team number 4.
Phil: Lori and Bolo you're team number 5.
That works.
That's better than 6.
Do we go back this way? Yeah.
We went in the opposite direction as we were supposed to go.
I hope we're not last.
Phil: Freddy and Kendra you're the sixth team to arrive.
However, you have broken a race rule.
The rules clearly state that you can only take one clue from the clue box, and after the Viking ships, you went back and took a second clue.
For that, you're receiving a 30-minute penalty, so I cannot check you in at this time.
You have to step off the mat and stand over there, and wait 30 minutes.
Thank you.
You don't think in 30 minutes 4 more teams will be here? It's possible, yeah.
I'm sorry I yelled.
I deserve it.
No, I'm sorry.
We're doing the best we can.
OK.
I really love you.
And I don't care if we win or lose or what.
I mean, I really don't.
I love you, and I've loved every minute we've been doing this.
And I apologize.
I'm so sorry.
I am, too.
Phil: Adam and Rebecca you're team number 6.
That's M.
J.
and Don.
Phil: Don and Mary Jean you're team number 7.
Yes! All right, Maria.
The last team to check in may be eliminated.
We should probably go left.
Follow the E-16, then get off on the 13.
We are praying that this is the pit stop.
It's OK.
It's OK.
Thank God we bought this map at 4:00 A.
M.
It's come in handy.
