Help! My House Is Haunted (2018) s06e06 Episode Script
Pit of Despair
You are not welcome.
I want you to go.
Help me, help me, please.
Across the UK
Woah.
What the..?
Did you hear that?
Oh my God!
..terrified homeowners
are being plagued by the paranormal.
I can see you.
I am scared to death.
I need to know, am I safe?
Thankfully,
there are three people
What was that?
I've got goosebumps.
No, I'm not going to get out.
Oh my God, Ian, don't leave me.
..who will stop at nothing
Someone's behind me.
Who's here with us?
Ahh!
What the hell was that?
..to return our homes
Can you just take the emotion
away from Jayne, please?
Two spirit forms.
Barri, you're scaring me.
Right next to you.
..back to the land of the living.
This is like
a horror movie, isn't it?
Guys, I feel that
there's gonna be an emotional link
to this property.
Ooh.
That's interesting.
Possibly like a family connection?
Yeah, maybe. I think
it's something to do with the owners.
In this investigation
Jayne, is that behind you?
What was that?
..a house plagued
by a poltergeist
There was an almighty bang,
I jumped, and my glass had smashed.
..and homeowners at breaking point.
The French doors
in the kitchen were rattling.
I was so frightened.
It's a compelling case
for the team
I can see you!
It says I can see you!
..as they discover
Please help. Oh wow.
..who is to blame.
What?
That says, "I'm sorry, you're dead."
Are we, um, dealing
with multiple energies in this case?
I'm seeing one
male spirit at the moment,
but I do see
these shadows behind him,
which could indicate that there's
multiple spirits or energies there.
Although Barri and Jayne
have seen case notes,
medium Ian relies
solely on his psychic senses.
I am aware of a gentleman
who I feel will need help.
He's looking desperate.
It's almost like
he's looking for something,
he's lost somebody,
or he's confused.
That's our job.
Mm-hmm.
Helping the spirits, helping people.
The team have been called in
to investigate
this modern detached home,
belonging to Dave and wife Linda.
We moved to Oakenshaw around,
er, two years ago.
There was a strange feeling with
the house from the day we moved in.
It had been left to rack and ruin,
and we've spent the last
two years doing the interior up.
But there's something in the area,
in the land, in the house,
is determined to work against us,
and it's doing its utmost
to disrupt everything we do.
You put things down,
you couldn't find them.
I've seen shadows
out of the corner of my eye.
I've had experiences
where something was growling
outside the French doors,
and the room went icy cold
for about 20 minutes.
Strange noises in the garden.
Prior to that,
we had a sunflower,
which my wife Linda had made
..fell off the wall,
smashed the sunflower.
You actually had
to physically lift it up
to lift it off the fixing,
so it couldn't just slide off.
The same night,
the dog started barking.
He had like a fearful look
on his face,
and he was just backing off
away from wherever it was.
There was obviously
something frightening him.
I think one of the things
that really sort of shook me up
was we were sat watching the telly,
I had a glass of wine
on the side table,
there was an almighty bang,
I jumped,
and my glass had smashed.
That really confirmed for me
that something
wasn't right with the house.
Round about three months ago,
I felt that somebody
was pinning us down,
and I was fighting and fighting
and fighting to sort of break free.
Er, quite a harrowing experience.
It feels like
it's draining your life force.
It just wears you down.
It gets to the point of,
is it worth it?
Shall we just call it a day
and find somewhere else?
I think now the team
is our final hope.
You wouldn't think anything
paranormal was going on here.
It just looks like
a lovely new home.
Yeah, it's a new-build property.
The land does feel weird though.
Does it?
Mmm.
While Barry and Jayne head off
to research further into the case
See you later.
See you soon.
..Ian is going to psychically
tune in to what's dwelling here.
Hello? Wow.
What a beautiful house.
There's doors everywhere.
Did you hear that, Adrian?
Yeah, upstairs.
Hello?
No way.
That's the stairs creaking.
It's here.
It's right here.
I can hear a female voice.
That door behind
you just knocked, here.
Hello?
To find out more
about what's happening,
I'm meeting Linda,
who is often alone in the house
while Dave works away.
Can you tell me
what is going on in your house?
It started about a week
after we moved in.
It was probably one
of the first nights
me and Beau, the dog,
were there on our own.
The noise that woke me up,
I didn't even know what it was.
The French doors in the kitchen
were rattling like that.
What, like someone
was trying to get in?
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
I was so frightened, and that
was kind of the start of it,
and then in the kitchen,
we've got like African
rattan balls on the walls.
One of them was off
and lying against the settee,
but the nail was still in the wall,
as if it had been pulled off.
Like it's been yanked off the wall.
Uh-huh.
That's incredible.
I sometimes think I can hear
people going up and down the stairs.
If I'm there on my own,
I shut the bedroom door.
I don't want to see out
onto the landing
when I'm there by myself.
It's freezing in here.
I think the fact
that I've walked into this house,
it's almost as if it's emphasised
all the spiritual activity in here.
It'sbuzzing.
There's a movement behind you.
A movement behind me,
along this landing.
It sounds like a dress.
There's whispering
in this bedroom here.
It's not a bedroom, it's a wardrobe.
There's a female voice.
I can hear it so clear.
Oakenshaw is a small village
which was built for families
who worked
at the nearby coalmine.
I've come to meet Tony Bell,
who works at Durham Mining Museum,
to find out more.
Thanks for meeting me, Tony.
You're welcome.
First of all,
why are we meeting here?
Well, in 1896,
Monday, April the 13th,
an explosion occurred
at Brancepeth A Pit,
which has links to this village,
because an upcast shaft
led from there.
Now, in the resulting explosion,
20 men were killed.
The chap who was stood
right next to the explosion
was completely blown
to smithereens.
And his colleagues,
and the resulting fireball,
it burnt all the skin
off their bodies
and killed them straightaway.
I'd like to get
some idea of geography,
of how close this explosion happened
to the house we're interested in.
On the map here,
this is approximately
where Brancepeth A Pit was.
OK.
And this point here
is the house in question
where the hauntings
has occurred.
Ah, so, what, about a mile?
About a mile.
Yeah?
Maybe a mile and a half at the most.
The explosion was a huge loss
of life for the area,
so it's possible it might be
connected to our case.
Tony's brought some amazing
19th century miners' memorabilia,
and it's given me an idea.
As part of our investigation,
it sometimes helps
if we've got something
that they might be familiar with.
Yes.
Like a mining lamp.
Yeah.
Would you mind if I took that?
It might not help, because
we may not be dealing with a miner,
but if we are,
it could help us.
Would you mind if I borrowed it?
Yeah, certainly,
whatever equipment you might need,
more than willing to help.
There's just something about
that land that gives me the creeps.
Out of my peripheral vision,
this way, into the garden,
I can see lots of men.
There's maybe about eight men
stood outside, looking.
They're attracted to my torch.
Now, are they seeing that
as a light,
like a spiritual light,
or does that mean something else?
It's almost like
they're drawn to it.
After several scary encounters,
David and Linda
did some research to find out
what could be causing the activity.
So, Linda,
do you know about the land?
Do you know
what's under the property?
I do, to a certain extent.
So there was an underground
explosion at Oakenshaw Mine,
which is the one near where
we live now, in the late 1800s.
People had died, and two,
there was a Thomas and William Laws,
father and son.
The son had died in the explosion,
and his dad had been one
of the recovery party
who brought his son's body out.
And you found out there are
two individuals related to
Was it your husband's family?
Same family, yeah.
David's family?
Yeah.
Amazing coincidence.
So we contacted
the coal authority ourselves.
All they could tell us was
there were no underground seams
under our house,
but there were in the garden.
There was one that came
from the house next door
into the top of our garden,
then out again
into the farmer's field.
So there are coalmining seams
running underneath your property?
Under the garden,
not under the house.
Well, essentially it's still
the property boundaries, isn't it?
Yeah. Mm-hmm
Incredible.
Hello?
There's a woman here
that's not connected to the house,
that is looking for somebody.
My heart is racing.
Now I think that's excitement.
She's excited that I'm here,
and she's been trying
to get people's attention
for a long time.
But there's a man, also.
I don't feel as giddy in this room.
I just feel quite calm,
but I do feel there is a presence
in here with me right now.
There's a connection
with them in some way.
With an underground seam
running from David
and Linda's garden to the pit
where the explosion took place,
I can't help but wonder
if there's a link.
We know that 21-year-old
William Laws died
in that explosion,
but David's surname is Laws.
It could just be
a complete coincidence,
of course,
but what if it's significant?
I found the details
of the Laws family burial plot
and it's near the house.
So we have Thomas
and Christina Laws.
They're buried
with their son William,
who died in the explosion.
Another son is named Thomas,
but also a son that
isn't buried there, John Laws.
Now, he died in action
in World War I in France.
What if the Laws family
are there in the house
reaching out to David and Linda,
needing their story told?
Hello?
If I lived here, I would feel
very nervous in this kitchen area,
because I'm seeing lots of spirits
stood outside the kitchen window.
I'm drawn outside.
I need to go out there
and have a look.
Wow.
Definitely the land.
There's so much going on here.
So all the spirits I could see here
were walking into that direction,
but they knew I was stood
looking out of that window up there,
but I did have my torch on,
and they were drawn to this light.
After what we've all learned
about the case so far,
it's no wonder
Linda and Dave need our help.
Hiya.
Hiya, alright?
Yeah, very interesting.
Hi, lovely to meet you.
Lovely to meet you.
And you.
There's a lot going on here.
I saw a minimum of eight spirits
just stood at the garden looking in.
But there was a female
walking across the landing.
She was looking
for something or somebody.
There's also a man.
I felt they were connected,
but I don't know
how they were connected.
But there's an awful lot
of spirits here.
Wow.
Do you know what?
That probably explains a lot,
you said how many people
are in the garden,
'cause Beau the dog goes nuts
at stuff in the garden,
and there's nothing there.
You can't see anything.
He clearly is looking at something,
he's watching something.
Well, I think maybe
it's worth us letting Ian know
a little bit about
what you guys already know.
Yeah.
Well, there was a mining disaster,
and in that disaster,
which happened
not too far from here,
one of the miners that was killed
was William Laws,
who I believe, David
Yes.
..is a relative of yours.
We haven't distinguished
whether he's a relative or not,
but William
is a family name.
My oldest uncle was called William,
my grandfather
was called William,
so it is, like, William Laws
is quite a well-known name
within the family.
So your surname is Laws?
Yes, my surname is Laws.
And somebody in the disaster
was called Laws?
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah, William Laws, yeah.
OK.
Well, look.
Why don't we make a start?
We're going to record
for electronic voice phenomena.
Ian will call out first.
Can you tell me your name?
Can you tell me why you're here?
What was that?
What was that?
Did you hear that?
Yeah, like something metal scraping.
It was something in here.
Let's play this back
and see what we've got.
I can see you.
I'm calling
What?
It's right at the start.
What?
I can see you.
I can see you!
That says I can see you.
That, er, that sounds male.
Yeah, it does.
Just play it again.
"I can see you."
That's plain, isn't it?
That is an absolutely
incredible grade-A EVP.
Let's do another recording
and let's ask who can see us.
OK.
I'm calling out to the gentleman
who just spoke.
What's your name?
Who can actually see us?
Where are you in this room?
Please can you tell me
your full name, sir? Thank you.
I thought I heard a response.
There was a man here.
I heard something over there.
OK.
What did you hear?
Like a
Did you?
Like a tap.
OK.
I'm calling out to the gentleman
who just spoke.
Where are you in this room?
There.
Behind you.
Behind you.
Clearly, whoever this gentleman is,
he really wants
to come forward and speak.
I'm calling forward the male spirit.
We heard your voice.
You can see us, can't you?
Do you need our help?
Is there anyone with you?
Let's play this back.
You can see us, can't you?
That says yes.
Yes.
It goes, "Yes."
You can hear the "sss" at the end.
Very, very elongated response,
isn't it?
It's whispering, isn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
Is there anyone with you?
"Is there anyone with you? Yes."
There's a "yes" there.
There is a yes.
Is there anyone with you?
Yes. Yes.
You said there were
multiple spirits here.
There is.
And I'm not surprised that you feel
particularly drained here,
because with that amount
of spirits
So much going on.
..needing energy to communicate
and do things
and get your attention,
it's no wonder you're zapped.
Given that
you've experienced footsteps
and a feeling of being
watched around the landing
and the stairs area,
during your walkaround,
did you pick up on anything
on the stairs and the landing?
The stairs and the landing
is where the female is really active.
Well, let's go there then,
try and make contact with her.
Ian believes this lady
is looking for someone,
so I'm wondering
if it's William's mother,
Christina Laws.
Why don't we call out for Christina?
And it almost rules it in
or rules it out
that it's her
if we get any responses.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
Christina? Christina Laws,
are you here with us?
If your name isn't Christina,
can you tell us your name?
Can you tell us
what you're looking for?
The lady is here with us.
She's stood to my right
and she's trying to talk to me.
So she was stood here,
near the plant,
and I could hear
the word "son."
Wow, OK. See what we've got.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
What was that?
That's, that said "Christina" there.
The hairs have just stood up
on the back of my neck.
You've got really good hearing.
I have.
He has.
And he's just heard the name.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
Does say Christina.
Yeah, it was.
We think you might be the lady
that walks here,
that's looking for something.
What?
"I am. I am."
It's a whisper.
..that's looking for something.
You're right. It is "I am."
It is "I am."
"I am."
Christina is desperate
to tell us her story.
So why don't we actually
stand over in that corner there?
Because that's where I could just
hear the voice saying "son."
Using an ITC device,
we're going to see
if we can get
any further communication.
Recording EchoVox session,
upstairs landing.
I'm calling out to anybody
who can hear my voice.
Here.
Correct.
Thank you. Tell me your name.
(BROKEN VOICE)
What?
Let me just play that back.
Tell me your name.
His footstep.
It is "his footstep."
I heard "step",
"his" something "step."
His footstep.
I heard "his" and "step."
The man I saw
on my walkaround is here.
Ask the man to come forward.
There's a man.
The male spirit
that's listening to us now,
if you can see us,
please step forward and communicate.
"This man."
"This man."
Are you part of the Laws family?
"Help."
How can we help you?
Pray? Pray.
OK, I'm gonna end this.
So we know there's a male
who needs help,
and a female,
who we believe is Christina,
and she's looking for someone.
Out of interest,
whose is that bedroom there?
Ours.
That's our bedroom, yeah.
Because that bedroom
was really active for me.
Yeah, it actually felt somebody
was actually pinning us down
by my shoulders.
Wow.
Er, I've had the experience
where I felt somebody
touch my feet in the bed.
I was fighting to sort of get free,
and eventually I did get free.
It appears that there are spirits
that are trying
to get your attention.
Yeah.
Shall we head into that room?
Yeah.
Yeah, definitely.
Dave and Linda are experiencing
lots of poltergeist activity.
Guys, are you happy
to call out this time?
Yeah.
Yeah?
Using the Alice box,
which will announce responses
in the ether,
we're going to try
and find out who is responsible.
Christina, if you can hear me,
do you know who pulled
the things off the wall?
If it is Christina,
could you tell us what it is
exactly you want from us,
what sort of help
you're looking for?
"Difficult."
Oh!
Just let us know
what it is we can do.
We want to help you
or anyone who needs our help.
BARRI: What?
"Will."
"Will."
"Will."
William.
As in William?
William.
Yeah.
William.
"I was murdered"?
"I was murdered"?
Thank you for that.
Maybe it's Christina
looking for Will.
Could be Christina looking.
Christina, are you trying to give
us information about your family?
Why are you here in this house,
on this land?
"Angry."
Well, that would be the reason
why all your objects
are being pulled off the wall
Yeah, yeah.
..quite violently.
So she's angry,
trying to get people's attention.
This spirit trigger session
has already given us
lots of evidence.
So I think we've got a busy night
ahead of us.
Thank you both so much for
joining us for Spirit Triggers.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We'll see what we can do.
Darkness descends and Dave
and Linda leave us for the night.
To capture any unusual activity,
during the investigation,
I've placed cameras across
the entire property,
which will be
constantly monitored
by the team in our nerve centre.
Right, the crew are setting up
the remaining cameras
but I'd like to concentrate
our efforts on three main areas
in this property.
One will be the front room
because that looks straight out
into the garden area,
up here in the master bedroom
but also the kitchen.
And that's where I'd like to
begin the main investigation.
Yeah. Sounds good.
OK.
Let's head there now. Good.
Yeah.
Can we switch all the cameras
to infrared, please?
FEMALE: Yeah, copy that.
OK, let's do a quick EVP first.
Alright.
Ian, do you want to call out?
Christina?
Are you here with us right now?
Why are you frustrated or angry?
Can you tell me any of the names
of your family, your sons?
Thank you.
End recording.
Let's play this back.
(ON RECORDING)
Why are you frustrated or angry?
(WHIMPERING)
What?
What did you hear?
What?
Somebody just
It was like a whimpering, crying.
Hello?
Who's with us, please?
Who needs our help?
We can help you
if we have your names.
End recording.
Yeah. Let's play.
Do you want me to play that back?
Yeah, just like that
last maybe 20 seconds?
(ON RECORDING)
Who needs our help?
We can help you
if we have your names.
Was that you?
Don't think so.
Let's listen again.
Did I speak?
You said, "I'm sorry"?
Did you say, "I'm sorry"?
You didn't say, "I'm sorry."
I didn't say, "I'm sorry."
It was like (GASPS)
..and then she said, "I'm sorry."
That's a woman's voice.
Why would she say, "I'm sorry"?
That is so clear.
That is amazing evidence.
I've got a feeling
that she's sorry for being angry
and destroying stuff
in the house.
Mmm.
Linda said that sunflower, um,
it was like a sunflower,
er, pottery piece that
was on the wall in the corridor.
That came off,
smashed the floor tiles
and everything's broken.
She loves that
and it's made her really sad.
So she could be sorry
for doing all these things
Yeah.
..but it's just an
attention seeking.
Christina, can you tell me
what you're sorry for?
Do you want our help?
Did you hear something?
Yeah.
Yeah, I did.
Just review that now.
End recording.
I can see her here.
She's here.
(ON RECORDING) Christina?
I'm sorry.
What?
(GASPS)
That says "I'm sorry", again.
(ON RECORDING) Christina?
Oh, god. It does.
(ON RECORDING) Can you tell me
what you're sorry for?
Killed them.
"Killed them."
There.
There, there, there.
Oh, there!
"Killed them."
It does sayit does say that.
"Killed them."
I missed that.
Oh, my god.
After researching
this case earlier,
I've got two possible theories
for this answer.
Christina could either be telling
us about the mining explosion
and the disaster -
that it killed her son
and some other men -
or she could be referring
to her other son, John,
who was killed in France.
Mmm.
And that would make sense
to me having that feeling
she were looking for somebody.
Mmm.
She's looking for her son.
We move to the living room,
to try and establish which son
Christina is looking for.
Do you want to call out, Ian?
Now?
We've got the spirit box running,
which sweeps radio frequencies,
allowing communication
through the white noise.
I'm calling out
to any male spirit that's here.
Can you try and come forward
and talk to us?
"Help me"?
"It's a man."
"It's a man."
Thank you.
"We're lost."
Yeah, "we're lost."
That's really clear, that.
Do you need help?
Would you like us to help you?
Thought I just heard "overseas."
Thank you. End recordings.
Now, could this be because
one of the Laws boys -
John - died overseas and
wasn't buried with his family?
Yeah.
Because Thomas Senior, their dad,
Christina, their mum, William,
they're all together
and they have a headstone marking
all of their deaths together.
Right.
John is not there.
And if he's here in spirit,
trying to be reunited
with his family,
then he would feel lost,
if he can't find them, as well.
They're all lost.
We need validation
that this is John.
To the male spirit
that can hear my voice
..could you tell me your name,
please?
"John"!
Are you John Laws?
John Laws,
we know that you died overseas
fighting for your country.
"Miss them."
That said, "Miss them."
Thank you. End recordings.
So Christina and John are
not together in the afterlife
and they're looking
for each other.
I still find this whole story
absolutely incredible.
Christina, the mother,
William, John,
I mean,
the sons that were all lost
..but there's
a family connection.
Ian, didn't you say,
on the drive here,
that you felt
an emotional family connection?
I did but I couldn't understand
it at the time
but now I feel I do.
There's one last area we need to
investigate and that's upstairs.
Guys, this room is freezing.
Is it?
It's freezing cold.
I'm in the master bedroom
and Ian and Barri are on
the landing.
Oh, somebody's
just walked over me there.
Oh, crikey. Really big chill.
"Jayne"!
"Jayne"?
Yeah. (LAUGHS)
Ian's got an ITC device
and Jayne and I
have temperature meters.
Christina, are you here?
Come and stand next to me.
That was a fluctuation
in the electromagnetic field.
Oh, as you said that,
mine went from 0.3 to 1.7
Wow.
..and then went again,
almost like something passed
between us.
"Sadness"!
Wow, this could be Christina.
Yeah.
That's amazing.
Thank you, Christina.
Let me take some photographs,
using the full-spectrum camera.
Hold it there.
Christina, can you show yourself,
please?
Let us see you.
Spirits.
Oh!
What was that?
Jayne, is that behind you?
No, I don't think it's
in this room.
Either outside or through here.
'Area'.
Area.
'Area'.
"Please help."
Oh, wow.
"Land"?
"Land"?
Guys, do you think that
we actually need to go outside?
It feels like Christina
is trying to tell us
about the men Ian sensed outside.
It's possible
they might be victims
of the mining pit disaster.
We've talked about, you know,
them being drawn to the light.
Tony, who I met with,
gave me something.
We've got an old miner's lantern.
Really?
And if we light it
Wow.
..maybe it will draw them to us.
Well, it will because,
on my walkaround,
my light, spirit was drawn to it.
If we can draw
these spirits to the lamp,
we can help them and Christina
and John to pass over.
I'm calling out to the miners,
to the men who I sensed
earlier on my walkaround.
Do you recognise this light?
Can you follow this light?
This is a light
to your freedom
..for your conditions
to be lifted,
your suffering to be gone
and for your story to be told.
Can you see the light inviting
you to walk forward?
Shall we move slowly towards
the house?
Just bit by bit.
Yeah.
And then maybe
they will follow us.
Helping these miners
will ensure the negative,
oppressive atmosphere
that Linda, Dave and their dog
Beau have experienced out here
will be gone.
Are they close, Ian?
They're here.
They're stood around us, Jayne.
Let's take them in.
OK.
Now we've drawn
all the spirits in
..with the power of prayer,
we're going to send them,
Christina and John, to the light.
Asking for the miners
who fell to a disaster,
we thank you for following us
and following your light of love.
We need you to walk through
into that light,
where your friends,
family and loved ones
will be there waiting for you.
We now ask Barri
to say a few words
for the Laws family.
Christina,
thank you for communicating
with us this evening.
Thank you for sharing
your story and your sadness.
I would like to reunite
you with your son, John
..who died in the War.
To rest in peace.
Amen.
The next morning,
after analysing all our evidence,
Linda and Dave return.
Good morning.
Morning.
DAVID: Morning.
Good morning, both.
Morning.
Well, we had
a very interesting evening.
We've got loads to show you,
and, er,
I'll hand it over to these guys.
Well, as you know, of course,
you joined us initially,
both, didn't you
Yes.
..for our Spirit Trigger session.
How did you find that?
Amazing.
That was really,
really interesting.
It puts you at ease a bit
'cause you know
that you're not imagining it.
You certainly
weren't imagining it.
(THEY LAUGH)
Well, during the course
of Spirit Triggers,
here in the kitchen,
we called out.
This one
we didn't hear at the time.
I want to play it for you.
(ON RECORDING) Please can you
tell me your full name, sir?
John.
I hear "John."
(ON RECORDING) Full name, sir?
John.
Full name, sir?
John.
Full name, sir?
Yeah.
What we didn't know initially,
Barri and I,
when we read the details
of your case,
was that William Laws,
who was killed in the tragic
local mining explosion,
had a brother called John
who'd been killed in action
in France.
Yeah.
He was, yeah.
So we made our way up to
the landing area and the stairs
because I think Ian heard
footsteps during his walkaround
but that's also something
you guys have experienced.
I've heard that, yeah.
Linda, you have?
Yeah. It's when I'm in bed.
I haven't heard it
any other time,
other than when I'm in bed
and it's definitely more than
one person
going up and down the stairs.
It's an adult,
it's not children.
It's heavy footsteps,
two, maybe three,
up and down the stairs.
So, at the top of the stairs,
we decided to do
another EVP experiment,
to see whether
or not we could communicate
with the female energy that Ian
had sensed on his walkaround.
And, straightaway,
we played back a response
that we thought said "Christina",
if you remember rightly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
This is the response now,
I'll play it for you.
I'm gonna boost it slightly.
Yes, Christina. Christina.
(WHISPERS) Chris-ti-na.
It's definitely a "Christ"
at the beginning.
You can hear that as well.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you can. Yeah.
We knew, of course,
from the family headstone,
that Christina Laws
had been William's mother,
John Laws' brother.
We thought, well, actually,
we can't ignore this now.
This sounds very much like it is
the Laws family here in spirit.
You eventually left us for
the night, didn't you?
Yeah.
And we continued
our investigation.
Now, Ian, Jayne and myself sat
on the sofa area.
Now the next EVP
absolutely blew us away.
I'm gonna play this for you.
(ON RECORDING) We can help you
if we have your names.
I'm sorry.
There's a lady there saying,
"I'm sorry."
You hear an intake of breath,
like (GASPS)
..and then it says, "I'm sorry."
But we think that
that's Christina
because we were communicating
with her throughout the evening
and we were calling out
and asking why is she here?
Yeah.
But the "I'm sorry" puzzled us
because she didn't do anything,
to our knowledge,
that she should
feel remorseful for.
But we thought, well,
possibly she's sorry, actually
Sunflower.
Exactly!
Oh, bless.
..for her presence here
in your house
Causing us
..causing you problems
and causing
this oppressive energy,
that has been affecting you.
You think it was her?
Mm-hm.
How does that make you feel?
Sad.
Does it?
To think that she didn't mean
Yeah.
..to actually make you
feel like
Yeah.
I've even said, so many times,
"That was aimed at me.
"Shewhoever knew how much
I loved that sunflower."
And that is just so (SIGHS)
And this is the thing,
you know, sometimes,
with spirits and hauntings
and activity.
It can be perceived as
Aimed at you.
..angry or something to fear
and, a lot of the time,
it's just a build-up
of frustration.
Right.
And even your experience, David,
of being pinned to the bed,
may well have been
a desperate attempt
just to get your attention.
Right.
It's a cry for help.
Yeah.
Yeah.
From this kitchen area,
we thought,
"We're gonna try and investigate
around the front room."
And it backs out onto the garden.
We used the spirit box.
We had some amazing ITC responses
during this session.
I want to play this for you.
(ON RECORDING) John Laws,
we know that you died overseas
fighting for your country.
I'm
I was calling out to John Laws,
so the brother of William,
who was killed in France.
And as I'm calling out,
trying to speak to John,
to establish whether he is here,
someone says, "We miss him."
So, we wondered,
is this actually
a case of a family in spirit,
who aren't together,
because, on that headstone,
it tells us, actually,
that John was buried in France.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Now, we called out for John.
We got his name.
(ON RECORDING) My name's Jayne.
"John!"
Yeah, no doubt.
And then another one.
ENTITY: John.
IAN: That's clear, that one,
isn't it?
Yeah, really.
Yeah.
JAYNE: Yeah.
As Jayne explained,
John had died in France
during World War I
and this response validated just
where he was laid to rest.
ENTITY: Overseas.
Overseas.
"Field"?
We hear "overseas."
"Overseas."
Yeah, yeah.
All those years ago that they've
been estranged, separated.
I think that's what you was
feeling and sensing as well.
Her feelings.
That heaviness
Yeah.
..is her sadness.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, as Ian said,
he'd seen early on
during his walk round,
many spirits in the garden
Right.
..and we knew, of course,
about the coal seams
and the coal mining tragedy.
And we thought, well,
actually we need to help
all of these spirits,
not just the Laws family
but all of these lost souls
that are outside.
So we actually lit
an old mining lamp
Right.
..'cause Ian had said
that they were being drawn
To the light.
..to the light.
We went out into the garden
and asked them to follow us.
Barri held the lantern for us
and I asked spirit
to come forward,
to follow the light.
And, within seconds,
there were so many miners stood
in your back garden.
It was very emotional
to see them.
I opened the doorway to heaven
and they was all going in,
one by one, one by one.
But then it was the family
we needed
toChristina's family,
we needed to send them
to the light.
Thank you.
Thank you, yeah.
This would have
just continued on,
if you hadn't come.
It would have.
It would have justwe would
have sold the house
Yeah.
..eventually,
'cause you can't live this way.
Out of interest, has your doggy
been in the garden today?
Beau has been in the garden
this morning.
Yes, he has been in the garden.
Yes.
And he hasn't been barking
out the window.
Wow.
So where's Beau?
Let's get Beau.
Beau?
Beau.
Beau?
Beau.
(THEY LAUGH)
BARRI: Hello!
JAYNE: Hello.
NARRATOR: It's been
a fascinating investigation
Got some brilliant evidence,
I'm glad we helped them.
I know, fresh start.
So many miners, though.
..but who knows
what the next case will bring?
Captioned by AI-Media
ai-media.tv
I want you to go.
Help me, help me, please.
Across the UK
Woah.
What the..?
Did you hear that?
Oh my God!
..terrified homeowners
are being plagued by the paranormal.
I can see you.
I am scared to death.
I need to know, am I safe?
Thankfully,
there are three people
What was that?
I've got goosebumps.
No, I'm not going to get out.
Oh my God, Ian, don't leave me.
..who will stop at nothing
Someone's behind me.
Who's here with us?
Ahh!
What the hell was that?
..to return our homes
Can you just take the emotion
away from Jayne, please?
Two spirit forms.
Barri, you're scaring me.
Right next to you.
..back to the land of the living.
This is like
a horror movie, isn't it?
Guys, I feel that
there's gonna be an emotional link
to this property.
Ooh.
That's interesting.
Possibly like a family connection?
Yeah, maybe. I think
it's something to do with the owners.
In this investigation
Jayne, is that behind you?
What was that?
..a house plagued
by a poltergeist
There was an almighty bang,
I jumped, and my glass had smashed.
..and homeowners at breaking point.
The French doors
in the kitchen were rattling.
I was so frightened.
It's a compelling case
for the team
I can see you!
It says I can see you!
..as they discover
Please help. Oh wow.
..who is to blame.
What?
That says, "I'm sorry, you're dead."
Are we, um, dealing
with multiple energies in this case?
I'm seeing one
male spirit at the moment,
but I do see
these shadows behind him,
which could indicate that there's
multiple spirits or energies there.
Although Barri and Jayne
have seen case notes,
medium Ian relies
solely on his psychic senses.
I am aware of a gentleman
who I feel will need help.
He's looking desperate.
It's almost like
he's looking for something,
he's lost somebody,
or he's confused.
That's our job.
Mm-hmm.
Helping the spirits, helping people.
The team have been called in
to investigate
this modern detached home,
belonging to Dave and wife Linda.
We moved to Oakenshaw around,
er, two years ago.
There was a strange feeling with
the house from the day we moved in.
It had been left to rack and ruin,
and we've spent the last
two years doing the interior up.
But there's something in the area,
in the land, in the house,
is determined to work against us,
and it's doing its utmost
to disrupt everything we do.
You put things down,
you couldn't find them.
I've seen shadows
out of the corner of my eye.
I've had experiences
where something was growling
outside the French doors,
and the room went icy cold
for about 20 minutes.
Strange noises in the garden.
Prior to that,
we had a sunflower,
which my wife Linda had made
..fell off the wall,
smashed the sunflower.
You actually had
to physically lift it up
to lift it off the fixing,
so it couldn't just slide off.
The same night,
the dog started barking.
He had like a fearful look
on his face,
and he was just backing off
away from wherever it was.
There was obviously
something frightening him.
I think one of the things
that really sort of shook me up
was we were sat watching the telly,
I had a glass of wine
on the side table,
there was an almighty bang,
I jumped,
and my glass had smashed.
That really confirmed for me
that something
wasn't right with the house.
Round about three months ago,
I felt that somebody
was pinning us down,
and I was fighting and fighting
and fighting to sort of break free.
Er, quite a harrowing experience.
It feels like
it's draining your life force.
It just wears you down.
It gets to the point of,
is it worth it?
Shall we just call it a day
and find somewhere else?
I think now the team
is our final hope.
You wouldn't think anything
paranormal was going on here.
It just looks like
a lovely new home.
Yeah, it's a new-build property.
The land does feel weird though.
Does it?
Mmm.
While Barry and Jayne head off
to research further into the case
See you later.
See you soon.
..Ian is going to psychically
tune in to what's dwelling here.
Hello? Wow.
What a beautiful house.
There's doors everywhere.
Did you hear that, Adrian?
Yeah, upstairs.
Hello?
No way.
That's the stairs creaking.
It's here.
It's right here.
I can hear a female voice.
That door behind
you just knocked, here.
Hello?
To find out more
about what's happening,
I'm meeting Linda,
who is often alone in the house
while Dave works away.
Can you tell me
what is going on in your house?
It started about a week
after we moved in.
It was probably one
of the first nights
me and Beau, the dog,
were there on our own.
The noise that woke me up,
I didn't even know what it was.
The French doors in the kitchen
were rattling like that.
What, like someone
was trying to get in?
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
I was so frightened, and that
was kind of the start of it,
and then in the kitchen,
we've got like African
rattan balls on the walls.
One of them was off
and lying against the settee,
but the nail was still in the wall,
as if it had been pulled off.
Like it's been yanked off the wall.
Uh-huh.
That's incredible.
I sometimes think I can hear
people going up and down the stairs.
If I'm there on my own,
I shut the bedroom door.
I don't want to see out
onto the landing
when I'm there by myself.
It's freezing in here.
I think the fact
that I've walked into this house,
it's almost as if it's emphasised
all the spiritual activity in here.
It'sbuzzing.
There's a movement behind you.
A movement behind me,
along this landing.
It sounds like a dress.
There's whispering
in this bedroom here.
It's not a bedroom, it's a wardrobe.
There's a female voice.
I can hear it so clear.
Oakenshaw is a small village
which was built for families
who worked
at the nearby coalmine.
I've come to meet Tony Bell,
who works at Durham Mining Museum,
to find out more.
Thanks for meeting me, Tony.
You're welcome.
First of all,
why are we meeting here?
Well, in 1896,
Monday, April the 13th,
an explosion occurred
at Brancepeth A Pit,
which has links to this village,
because an upcast shaft
led from there.
Now, in the resulting explosion,
20 men were killed.
The chap who was stood
right next to the explosion
was completely blown
to smithereens.
And his colleagues,
and the resulting fireball,
it burnt all the skin
off their bodies
and killed them straightaway.
I'd like to get
some idea of geography,
of how close this explosion happened
to the house we're interested in.
On the map here,
this is approximately
where Brancepeth A Pit was.
OK.
And this point here
is the house in question
where the hauntings
has occurred.
Ah, so, what, about a mile?
About a mile.
Yeah?
Maybe a mile and a half at the most.
The explosion was a huge loss
of life for the area,
so it's possible it might be
connected to our case.
Tony's brought some amazing
19th century miners' memorabilia,
and it's given me an idea.
As part of our investigation,
it sometimes helps
if we've got something
that they might be familiar with.
Yes.
Like a mining lamp.
Yeah.
Would you mind if I took that?
It might not help, because
we may not be dealing with a miner,
but if we are,
it could help us.
Would you mind if I borrowed it?
Yeah, certainly,
whatever equipment you might need,
more than willing to help.
There's just something about
that land that gives me the creeps.
Out of my peripheral vision,
this way, into the garden,
I can see lots of men.
There's maybe about eight men
stood outside, looking.
They're attracted to my torch.
Now, are they seeing that
as a light,
like a spiritual light,
or does that mean something else?
It's almost like
they're drawn to it.
After several scary encounters,
David and Linda
did some research to find out
what could be causing the activity.
So, Linda,
do you know about the land?
Do you know
what's under the property?
I do, to a certain extent.
So there was an underground
explosion at Oakenshaw Mine,
which is the one near where
we live now, in the late 1800s.
People had died, and two,
there was a Thomas and William Laws,
father and son.
The son had died in the explosion,
and his dad had been one
of the recovery party
who brought his son's body out.
And you found out there are
two individuals related to
Was it your husband's family?
Same family, yeah.
David's family?
Yeah.
Amazing coincidence.
So we contacted
the coal authority ourselves.
All they could tell us was
there were no underground seams
under our house,
but there were in the garden.
There was one that came
from the house next door
into the top of our garden,
then out again
into the farmer's field.
So there are coalmining seams
running underneath your property?
Under the garden,
not under the house.
Well, essentially it's still
the property boundaries, isn't it?
Yeah. Mm-hmm
Incredible.
Hello?
There's a woman here
that's not connected to the house,
that is looking for somebody.
My heart is racing.
Now I think that's excitement.
She's excited that I'm here,
and she's been trying
to get people's attention
for a long time.
But there's a man, also.
I don't feel as giddy in this room.
I just feel quite calm,
but I do feel there is a presence
in here with me right now.
There's a connection
with them in some way.
With an underground seam
running from David
and Linda's garden to the pit
where the explosion took place,
I can't help but wonder
if there's a link.
We know that 21-year-old
William Laws died
in that explosion,
but David's surname is Laws.
It could just be
a complete coincidence,
of course,
but what if it's significant?
I found the details
of the Laws family burial plot
and it's near the house.
So we have Thomas
and Christina Laws.
They're buried
with their son William,
who died in the explosion.
Another son is named Thomas,
but also a son that
isn't buried there, John Laws.
Now, he died in action
in World War I in France.
What if the Laws family
are there in the house
reaching out to David and Linda,
needing their story told?
Hello?
If I lived here, I would feel
very nervous in this kitchen area,
because I'm seeing lots of spirits
stood outside the kitchen window.
I'm drawn outside.
I need to go out there
and have a look.
Wow.
Definitely the land.
There's so much going on here.
So all the spirits I could see here
were walking into that direction,
but they knew I was stood
looking out of that window up there,
but I did have my torch on,
and they were drawn to this light.
After what we've all learned
about the case so far,
it's no wonder
Linda and Dave need our help.
Hiya.
Hiya, alright?
Yeah, very interesting.
Hi, lovely to meet you.
Lovely to meet you.
And you.
There's a lot going on here.
I saw a minimum of eight spirits
just stood at the garden looking in.
But there was a female
walking across the landing.
She was looking
for something or somebody.
There's also a man.
I felt they were connected,
but I don't know
how they were connected.
But there's an awful lot
of spirits here.
Wow.
Do you know what?
That probably explains a lot,
you said how many people
are in the garden,
'cause Beau the dog goes nuts
at stuff in the garden,
and there's nothing there.
You can't see anything.
He clearly is looking at something,
he's watching something.
Well, I think maybe
it's worth us letting Ian know
a little bit about
what you guys already know.
Yeah.
Well, there was a mining disaster,
and in that disaster,
which happened
not too far from here,
one of the miners that was killed
was William Laws,
who I believe, David
Yes.
..is a relative of yours.
We haven't distinguished
whether he's a relative or not,
but William
is a family name.
My oldest uncle was called William,
my grandfather
was called William,
so it is, like, William Laws
is quite a well-known name
within the family.
So your surname is Laws?
Yes, my surname is Laws.
And somebody in the disaster
was called Laws?
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah, William Laws, yeah.
OK.
Well, look.
Why don't we make a start?
We're going to record
for electronic voice phenomena.
Ian will call out first.
Can you tell me your name?
Can you tell me why you're here?
What was that?
What was that?
Did you hear that?
Yeah, like something metal scraping.
It was something in here.
Let's play this back
and see what we've got.
I can see you.
I'm calling
What?
It's right at the start.
What?
I can see you.
I can see you!
That says I can see you.
That, er, that sounds male.
Yeah, it does.
Just play it again.
"I can see you."
That's plain, isn't it?
That is an absolutely
incredible grade-A EVP.
Let's do another recording
and let's ask who can see us.
OK.
I'm calling out to the gentleman
who just spoke.
What's your name?
Who can actually see us?
Where are you in this room?
Please can you tell me
your full name, sir? Thank you.
I thought I heard a response.
There was a man here.
I heard something over there.
OK.
What did you hear?
Like a
Did you?
Like a tap.
OK.
I'm calling out to the gentleman
who just spoke.
Where are you in this room?
There.
Behind you.
Behind you.
Clearly, whoever this gentleman is,
he really wants
to come forward and speak.
I'm calling forward the male spirit.
We heard your voice.
You can see us, can't you?
Do you need our help?
Is there anyone with you?
Let's play this back.
You can see us, can't you?
That says yes.
Yes.
It goes, "Yes."
You can hear the "sss" at the end.
Very, very elongated response,
isn't it?
It's whispering, isn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
Is there anyone with you?
"Is there anyone with you? Yes."
There's a "yes" there.
There is a yes.
Is there anyone with you?
Yes. Yes.
You said there were
multiple spirits here.
There is.
And I'm not surprised that you feel
particularly drained here,
because with that amount
of spirits
So much going on.
..needing energy to communicate
and do things
and get your attention,
it's no wonder you're zapped.
Given that
you've experienced footsteps
and a feeling of being
watched around the landing
and the stairs area,
during your walkaround,
did you pick up on anything
on the stairs and the landing?
The stairs and the landing
is where the female is really active.
Well, let's go there then,
try and make contact with her.
Ian believes this lady
is looking for someone,
so I'm wondering
if it's William's mother,
Christina Laws.
Why don't we call out for Christina?
And it almost rules it in
or rules it out
that it's her
if we get any responses.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
Christina? Christina Laws,
are you here with us?
If your name isn't Christina,
can you tell us your name?
Can you tell us
what you're looking for?
The lady is here with us.
She's stood to my right
and she's trying to talk to me.
So she was stood here,
near the plant,
and I could hear
the word "son."
Wow, OK. See what we've got.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
What was that?
That's, that said "Christina" there.
The hairs have just stood up
on the back of my neck.
You've got really good hearing.
I have.
He has.
And he's just heard the name.
Recording spirit triggers
upstairs landing.
Does say Christina.
Yeah, it was.
We think you might be the lady
that walks here,
that's looking for something.
What?
"I am. I am."
It's a whisper.
..that's looking for something.
You're right. It is "I am."
It is "I am."
"I am."
Christina is desperate
to tell us her story.
So why don't we actually
stand over in that corner there?
Because that's where I could just
hear the voice saying "son."
Using an ITC device,
we're going to see
if we can get
any further communication.
Recording EchoVox session,
upstairs landing.
I'm calling out to anybody
who can hear my voice.
Here.
Correct.
Thank you. Tell me your name.
(BROKEN VOICE)
What?
Let me just play that back.
Tell me your name.
His footstep.
It is "his footstep."
I heard "step",
"his" something "step."
His footstep.
I heard "his" and "step."
The man I saw
on my walkaround is here.
Ask the man to come forward.
There's a man.
The male spirit
that's listening to us now,
if you can see us,
please step forward and communicate.
"This man."
"This man."
Are you part of the Laws family?
"Help."
How can we help you?
Pray? Pray.
OK, I'm gonna end this.
So we know there's a male
who needs help,
and a female,
who we believe is Christina,
and she's looking for someone.
Out of interest,
whose is that bedroom there?
Ours.
That's our bedroom, yeah.
Because that bedroom
was really active for me.
Yeah, it actually felt somebody
was actually pinning us down
by my shoulders.
Wow.
Er, I've had the experience
where I felt somebody
touch my feet in the bed.
I was fighting to sort of get free,
and eventually I did get free.
It appears that there are spirits
that are trying
to get your attention.
Yeah.
Shall we head into that room?
Yeah.
Yeah, definitely.
Dave and Linda are experiencing
lots of poltergeist activity.
Guys, are you happy
to call out this time?
Yeah.
Yeah?
Using the Alice box,
which will announce responses
in the ether,
we're going to try
and find out who is responsible.
Christina, if you can hear me,
do you know who pulled
the things off the wall?
If it is Christina,
could you tell us what it is
exactly you want from us,
what sort of help
you're looking for?
"Difficult."
Oh!
Just let us know
what it is we can do.
We want to help you
or anyone who needs our help.
BARRI: What?
"Will."
"Will."
"Will."
William.
As in William?
William.
Yeah.
William.
"I was murdered"?
"I was murdered"?
Thank you for that.
Maybe it's Christina
looking for Will.
Could be Christina looking.
Christina, are you trying to give
us information about your family?
Why are you here in this house,
on this land?
"Angry."
Well, that would be the reason
why all your objects
are being pulled off the wall
Yeah, yeah.
..quite violently.
So she's angry,
trying to get people's attention.
This spirit trigger session
has already given us
lots of evidence.
So I think we've got a busy night
ahead of us.
Thank you both so much for
joining us for Spirit Triggers.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We'll see what we can do.
Darkness descends and Dave
and Linda leave us for the night.
To capture any unusual activity,
during the investigation,
I've placed cameras across
the entire property,
which will be
constantly monitored
by the team in our nerve centre.
Right, the crew are setting up
the remaining cameras
but I'd like to concentrate
our efforts on three main areas
in this property.
One will be the front room
because that looks straight out
into the garden area,
up here in the master bedroom
but also the kitchen.
And that's where I'd like to
begin the main investigation.
Yeah. Sounds good.
OK.
Let's head there now. Good.
Yeah.
Can we switch all the cameras
to infrared, please?
FEMALE: Yeah, copy that.
OK, let's do a quick EVP first.
Alright.
Ian, do you want to call out?
Christina?
Are you here with us right now?
Why are you frustrated or angry?
Can you tell me any of the names
of your family, your sons?
Thank you.
End recording.
Let's play this back.
(ON RECORDING)
Why are you frustrated or angry?
(WHIMPERING)
What?
What did you hear?
What?
Somebody just
It was like a whimpering, crying.
Hello?
Who's with us, please?
Who needs our help?
We can help you
if we have your names.
End recording.
Yeah. Let's play.
Do you want me to play that back?
Yeah, just like that
last maybe 20 seconds?
(ON RECORDING)
Who needs our help?
We can help you
if we have your names.
Was that you?
Don't think so.
Let's listen again.
Did I speak?
You said, "I'm sorry"?
Did you say, "I'm sorry"?
You didn't say, "I'm sorry."
I didn't say, "I'm sorry."
It was like (GASPS)
..and then she said, "I'm sorry."
That's a woman's voice.
Why would she say, "I'm sorry"?
That is so clear.
That is amazing evidence.
I've got a feeling
that she's sorry for being angry
and destroying stuff
in the house.
Mmm.
Linda said that sunflower, um,
it was like a sunflower,
er, pottery piece that
was on the wall in the corridor.
That came off,
smashed the floor tiles
and everything's broken.
She loves that
and it's made her really sad.
So she could be sorry
for doing all these things
Yeah.
..but it's just an
attention seeking.
Christina, can you tell me
what you're sorry for?
Do you want our help?
Did you hear something?
Yeah.
Yeah, I did.
Just review that now.
End recording.
I can see her here.
She's here.
(ON RECORDING) Christina?
I'm sorry.
What?
(GASPS)
That says "I'm sorry", again.
(ON RECORDING) Christina?
Oh, god. It does.
(ON RECORDING) Can you tell me
what you're sorry for?
Killed them.
"Killed them."
There.
There, there, there.
Oh, there!
"Killed them."
It does sayit does say that.
"Killed them."
I missed that.
Oh, my god.
After researching
this case earlier,
I've got two possible theories
for this answer.
Christina could either be telling
us about the mining explosion
and the disaster -
that it killed her son
and some other men -
or she could be referring
to her other son, John,
who was killed in France.
Mmm.
And that would make sense
to me having that feeling
she were looking for somebody.
Mmm.
She's looking for her son.
We move to the living room,
to try and establish which son
Christina is looking for.
Do you want to call out, Ian?
Now?
We've got the spirit box running,
which sweeps radio frequencies,
allowing communication
through the white noise.
I'm calling out
to any male spirit that's here.
Can you try and come forward
and talk to us?
"Help me"?
"It's a man."
"It's a man."
Thank you.
"We're lost."
Yeah, "we're lost."
That's really clear, that.
Do you need help?
Would you like us to help you?
Thought I just heard "overseas."
Thank you. End recordings.
Now, could this be because
one of the Laws boys -
John - died overseas and
wasn't buried with his family?
Yeah.
Because Thomas Senior, their dad,
Christina, their mum, William,
they're all together
and they have a headstone marking
all of their deaths together.
Right.
John is not there.
And if he's here in spirit,
trying to be reunited
with his family,
then he would feel lost,
if he can't find them, as well.
They're all lost.
We need validation
that this is John.
To the male spirit
that can hear my voice
..could you tell me your name,
please?
"John"!
Are you John Laws?
John Laws,
we know that you died overseas
fighting for your country.
"Miss them."
That said, "Miss them."
Thank you. End recordings.
So Christina and John are
not together in the afterlife
and they're looking
for each other.
I still find this whole story
absolutely incredible.
Christina, the mother,
William, John,
I mean,
the sons that were all lost
..but there's
a family connection.
Ian, didn't you say,
on the drive here,
that you felt
an emotional family connection?
I did but I couldn't understand
it at the time
but now I feel I do.
There's one last area we need to
investigate and that's upstairs.
Guys, this room is freezing.
Is it?
It's freezing cold.
I'm in the master bedroom
and Ian and Barri are on
the landing.
Oh, somebody's
just walked over me there.
Oh, crikey. Really big chill.
"Jayne"!
"Jayne"?
Yeah. (LAUGHS)
Ian's got an ITC device
and Jayne and I
have temperature meters.
Christina, are you here?
Come and stand next to me.
That was a fluctuation
in the electromagnetic field.
Oh, as you said that,
mine went from 0.3 to 1.7
Wow.
..and then went again,
almost like something passed
between us.
"Sadness"!
Wow, this could be Christina.
Yeah.
That's amazing.
Thank you, Christina.
Let me take some photographs,
using the full-spectrum camera.
Hold it there.
Christina, can you show yourself,
please?
Let us see you.
Spirits.
Oh!
What was that?
Jayne, is that behind you?
No, I don't think it's
in this room.
Either outside or through here.
'Area'.
Area.
'Area'.
"Please help."
Oh, wow.
"Land"?
"Land"?
Guys, do you think that
we actually need to go outside?
It feels like Christina
is trying to tell us
about the men Ian sensed outside.
It's possible
they might be victims
of the mining pit disaster.
We've talked about, you know,
them being drawn to the light.
Tony, who I met with,
gave me something.
We've got an old miner's lantern.
Really?
And if we light it
Wow.
..maybe it will draw them to us.
Well, it will because,
on my walkaround,
my light, spirit was drawn to it.
If we can draw
these spirits to the lamp,
we can help them and Christina
and John to pass over.
I'm calling out to the miners,
to the men who I sensed
earlier on my walkaround.
Do you recognise this light?
Can you follow this light?
This is a light
to your freedom
..for your conditions
to be lifted,
your suffering to be gone
and for your story to be told.
Can you see the light inviting
you to walk forward?
Shall we move slowly towards
the house?
Just bit by bit.
Yeah.
And then maybe
they will follow us.
Helping these miners
will ensure the negative,
oppressive atmosphere
that Linda, Dave and their dog
Beau have experienced out here
will be gone.
Are they close, Ian?
They're here.
They're stood around us, Jayne.
Let's take them in.
OK.
Now we've drawn
all the spirits in
..with the power of prayer,
we're going to send them,
Christina and John, to the light.
Asking for the miners
who fell to a disaster,
we thank you for following us
and following your light of love.
We need you to walk through
into that light,
where your friends,
family and loved ones
will be there waiting for you.
We now ask Barri
to say a few words
for the Laws family.
Christina,
thank you for communicating
with us this evening.
Thank you for sharing
your story and your sadness.
I would like to reunite
you with your son, John
..who died in the War.
To rest in peace.
Amen.
The next morning,
after analysing all our evidence,
Linda and Dave return.
Good morning.
Morning.
DAVID: Morning.
Good morning, both.
Morning.
Well, we had
a very interesting evening.
We've got loads to show you,
and, er,
I'll hand it over to these guys.
Well, as you know, of course,
you joined us initially,
both, didn't you
Yes.
..for our Spirit Trigger session.
How did you find that?
Amazing.
That was really,
really interesting.
It puts you at ease a bit
'cause you know
that you're not imagining it.
You certainly
weren't imagining it.
(THEY LAUGH)
Well, during the course
of Spirit Triggers,
here in the kitchen,
we called out.
This one
we didn't hear at the time.
I want to play it for you.
(ON RECORDING) Please can you
tell me your full name, sir?
John.
I hear "John."
(ON RECORDING) Full name, sir?
John.
Full name, sir?
John.
Full name, sir?
Yeah.
What we didn't know initially,
Barri and I,
when we read the details
of your case,
was that William Laws,
who was killed in the tragic
local mining explosion,
had a brother called John
who'd been killed in action
in France.
Yeah.
He was, yeah.
So we made our way up to
the landing area and the stairs
because I think Ian heard
footsteps during his walkaround
but that's also something
you guys have experienced.
I've heard that, yeah.
Linda, you have?
Yeah. It's when I'm in bed.
I haven't heard it
any other time,
other than when I'm in bed
and it's definitely more than
one person
going up and down the stairs.
It's an adult,
it's not children.
It's heavy footsteps,
two, maybe three,
up and down the stairs.
So, at the top of the stairs,
we decided to do
another EVP experiment,
to see whether
or not we could communicate
with the female energy that Ian
had sensed on his walkaround.
And, straightaway,
we played back a response
that we thought said "Christina",
if you remember rightly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
This is the response now,
I'll play it for you.
I'm gonna boost it slightly.
Yes, Christina. Christina.
(WHISPERS) Chris-ti-na.
It's definitely a "Christ"
at the beginning.
You can hear that as well.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you can. Yeah.
We knew, of course,
from the family headstone,
that Christina Laws
had been William's mother,
John Laws' brother.
We thought, well, actually,
we can't ignore this now.
This sounds very much like it is
the Laws family here in spirit.
You eventually left us for
the night, didn't you?
Yeah.
And we continued
our investigation.
Now, Ian, Jayne and myself sat
on the sofa area.
Now the next EVP
absolutely blew us away.
I'm gonna play this for you.
(ON RECORDING) We can help you
if we have your names.
I'm sorry.
There's a lady there saying,
"I'm sorry."
You hear an intake of breath,
like (GASPS)
..and then it says, "I'm sorry."
But we think that
that's Christina
because we were communicating
with her throughout the evening
and we were calling out
and asking why is she here?
Yeah.
But the "I'm sorry" puzzled us
because she didn't do anything,
to our knowledge,
that she should
feel remorseful for.
But we thought, well,
possibly she's sorry, actually
Sunflower.
Exactly!
Oh, bless.
..for her presence here
in your house
Causing us
..causing you problems
and causing
this oppressive energy,
that has been affecting you.
You think it was her?
Mm-hm.
How does that make you feel?
Sad.
Does it?
To think that she didn't mean
Yeah.
..to actually make you
feel like
Yeah.
I've even said, so many times,
"That was aimed at me.
"Shewhoever knew how much
I loved that sunflower."
And that is just so (SIGHS)
And this is the thing,
you know, sometimes,
with spirits and hauntings
and activity.
It can be perceived as
Aimed at you.
..angry or something to fear
and, a lot of the time,
it's just a build-up
of frustration.
Right.
And even your experience, David,
of being pinned to the bed,
may well have been
a desperate attempt
just to get your attention.
Right.
It's a cry for help.
Yeah.
Yeah.
From this kitchen area,
we thought,
"We're gonna try and investigate
around the front room."
And it backs out onto the garden.
We used the spirit box.
We had some amazing ITC responses
during this session.
I want to play this for you.
(ON RECORDING) John Laws,
we know that you died overseas
fighting for your country.
I'm
I was calling out to John Laws,
so the brother of William,
who was killed in France.
And as I'm calling out,
trying to speak to John,
to establish whether he is here,
someone says, "We miss him."
So, we wondered,
is this actually
a case of a family in spirit,
who aren't together,
because, on that headstone,
it tells us, actually,
that John was buried in France.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Now, we called out for John.
We got his name.
(ON RECORDING) My name's Jayne.
"John!"
Yeah, no doubt.
And then another one.
ENTITY: John.
IAN: That's clear, that one,
isn't it?
Yeah, really.
Yeah.
JAYNE: Yeah.
As Jayne explained,
John had died in France
during World War I
and this response validated just
where he was laid to rest.
ENTITY: Overseas.
Overseas.
"Field"?
We hear "overseas."
"Overseas."
Yeah, yeah.
All those years ago that they've
been estranged, separated.
I think that's what you was
feeling and sensing as well.
Her feelings.
That heaviness
Yeah.
..is her sadness.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, as Ian said,
he'd seen early on
during his walk round,
many spirits in the garden
Right.
..and we knew, of course,
about the coal seams
and the coal mining tragedy.
And we thought, well,
actually we need to help
all of these spirits,
not just the Laws family
but all of these lost souls
that are outside.
So we actually lit
an old mining lamp
Right.
..'cause Ian had said
that they were being drawn
To the light.
..to the light.
We went out into the garden
and asked them to follow us.
Barri held the lantern for us
and I asked spirit
to come forward,
to follow the light.
And, within seconds,
there were so many miners stood
in your back garden.
It was very emotional
to see them.
I opened the doorway to heaven
and they was all going in,
one by one, one by one.
But then it was the family
we needed
toChristina's family,
we needed to send them
to the light.
Thank you.
Thank you, yeah.
This would have
just continued on,
if you hadn't come.
It would have.
It would have justwe would
have sold the house
Yeah.
..eventually,
'cause you can't live this way.
Out of interest, has your doggy
been in the garden today?
Beau has been in the garden
this morning.
Yes, he has been in the garden.
Yes.
And he hasn't been barking
out the window.
Wow.
So where's Beau?
Let's get Beau.
Beau?
Beau.
Beau?
Beau.
(THEY LAUGH)
BARRI: Hello!
JAYNE: Hello.
NARRATOR: It's been
a fascinating investigation
Got some brilliant evidence,
I'm glad we helped them.
I know, fresh start.
So many miners, though.
..but who knows
what the next case will bring?
