Hudson and Rex (2019) s06e10 Episode Script
Who's Your Caddy?
1
[SOFT MUSIC]
- ALISTAIR: Woo-hoo!
- REPORTER: Wow!
Perfect.
- Great shot, Sossi!
- Thank you.
REPORTER: Grab some Broll? I'll be back.
- All right.
- Wow. She's good!
We're thinking five to seven
minutes for the segment.
Have your daughter playing the
greens that turned her into a pro.
The first Armenian Canadian pro golfer
- in the history of the LPGA!
- [ALISTAIR LAUGHS]
He is a proud papa.
You might have to interview him too.
[REPORTER LAUGHS] You know what?
We'll do a walk and talk along here.
The only think is
that shed in the back there.
That's a bit of an eyesore.
Any chance ?
Maybe slim but I'd love to remove that.
Of course! [ALISTAIR CHUCKLES]
REPORTER: Great. Get rid of it.
- Needs an upgrade anyway.
- Perfect!
Sossi! It's here!
Coming!
[ALISTAIR CHUCKLES] Great job, Sossi.
- Thanks guys.
- Thank you!
I've got a surprise for you.
Oh!
Ready?
One, two, three!
[SOSSI LAUGHS]
Sossijeeg, it's too much!
For my father, nothing is too much.
[RAFFI CHUCKLES]
Well, go on!
- Get in there!
- [JENNICA CHUCKLES]
Okay, phenom. Time for practice.
You know I wouldn't be a
phenom if it wasn't for you.
[JENNICA LAUGHS]
JENNICA: So, I rewatched
your game last night.
You should have used your iron on 9th.
In that wind? I had to go driver.
Well, it cost you a stroke.
You up for a twilight
round after range practice?
SARAH: Can I just move it?
No.
I wouldn't use the sand wedge.
I'd use a nine iron. I'd land
it short and let it roll up.
Yeah, I would do the exact same thing.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
All I heard is sandwich.
Okay.
[SARAH CLEARS THROAT]
Okay! Nice shot!
- SARAH: That's not bad!
- Not bad at all!
[THEY CHUCKLE]
Come on, buddy.
SARAH: Joe, this course is beautiful.
How long have you been a member?
Back when Camilla was born.
My boss at the time was a member
and so was most of the mayor's office.
- Wow! Networking central.
- Yeah.
Charlie, when are you
going to become a member?
Oh, I used to caddy back in high school.
Between the lousy tips and rude members,
I kind of got off the sport for good.
Oh, says the guy who's two under par.
- [DONOVAN LAUGHS]
- Rex, find it.
Beautiful.
JESSE: You guys know where my ball is?
- Have you seen my ball?
- In the woods.
[REX BARKS]
JESSE: Rex doesn't quite
have the hang of it yet.
Rex, the balls are over here!
[REX BARKS]
[OMINOUS MUSIC]
No, he's found something.
[REX SNIFFS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[UPBEAT THEME MUSIC]
DONOVAN: Jennica Malouf.
Her family owned a chain of
popular bakeries in Lebanon.
And she came over here to go to school.
I'll notify her next of kin.
What happened to her?
SARAH: Clear signs of
swelling and bruising
at the neck, petechiae on her eyelids.
It's consistent with strangulation.
[SARAH SIGHS]
She's missing an earring.
The sand is still damp in places.
We'll look for any impressions
that might have been
left when she was buried.
I couldn't find her golf clubs anywhere.
How long do you think she's been here?
Based on the bruising,
I'd say sometime last night
between 7:00 and 3:00 AM.
We'll know more once
we get the postmortem.
Strange that she'd be here at night.
Well, most clubs offer twilight play.
It allows members to play
as many holes as they can
- before the sun goes down.
- Charlie!
This is Baxter. He's
the head golf pro here.
He played a lot with Jennica and Sossi.
She was a funny lady.
This really sucks.
Did you see her yesterday?
No, I was off yesterday. I was
at the hospital with my wife.
My mother-in-law had surgery.
Okay.
- Thanks.
- Thanks.
Oh, Detective.
I found this divot tool
this morning on the cart path.
I didn't think much of
it at the time, but now
Same colour as the
rest of Jennica's gear.
It's definitely hers.
Where exactly did you find it?
[THUNDER RUMBLING]
[HORN BLARING]
[RAIN FALLING]
[REX BARKS]
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX BARKS]
Matches the victim's earring.
An earring and a divot tool.
You think this is where she was killed?
Yeah, we should get Sarah
down here to take a look.
[RAIN FALLING]
[REX WHINES]
You and Jennica were close?
Best friends. Ever since
she came here for school.
When I wanted to go on my amateur tour,
- she helped cover my costs.
- Mmm.
Sossi. Did Jennica have a boyfriend?
Was she seeing anyone?
No, she was taking a break from dating.
- [REX WHINES]
- Can you think of anyone
- who might have wanted to do this to her?
- Murder her?
No.
No way.
- Everyone loved her.
- Mmm.
- When was the last time you saw her?
- Yesterday.
We hit a couple of buckets
of balls at the range and then
- finished around four.
- Mm-hmm. Okay.
She asked me to play the
twilight round with her
but I had a gym session.
What if I'd gone with her?
If she hadn't been alone,
maybe she'd be alive.
- RAFFI: Sossijeeg.
- [SOSSI CRIES]
SOSSI: Papa.
I should call Jennica's dad.
RAFFI: Of course.
- [REX WHINES]
- Yeah, go ahead, pal.
Are you up for a few
questions Mr. Chopjian?
RAFFI: Anything I can do to help.
Raffi, I know you that you
drive the course each night
after you close.
- Did you do that last night?
- RAFFI: Of course.
CHARLIE: Did you see Jennica?
RAFFI: Around 7:30. On the third hole.
I feel bad now because
I got upset with her
for not pre-booking the twilight round.
She said she decided last minute.
Was she playing with anyone?
RAFFI: She was alone.
I finished my rounds, 9:30
maybe? Then I went home.
CHARLIE: How could you
be so sure that she wasn't
still on the course when you left?
RAFFI: I saw the cart
that she was using returned.
So, I assumed she left.
ALISTAIR: Raffi. Baxter just texted me.
Jennica. My God.
Joe is investigating her murder.
ALISTAIR: Murder?
You're certain it wasn't an accident?
Yeah. You're going to have
to close down the 13th hole
while our forensics
team processes the scene.
Absolutely. Yeah, no of
course. Whatever you need.
Wow, what a tragic loss.
I was just actually just speaking
about Jennica's sponsorship of Sossi
- at the bar last night with that reporter.
- [RAFFI SIGHS]
[PHONE BUZZING]
It's Monica, my wife.
She must have heard the news. Excuse me.
Hi, honey.
Yeah.
Thank you for your time, Raffi.
We'll be in touch.
Jennica's clubs aren't on the course.
- She has those pink Titleists, right?
- RAFFI: She does.
But I did notice last night
that she wasn't using her own clubs.
Maybe demos?
Thanks.
[RAFFI SIGHS]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
DONOVAN: Hey, Charlie and
Rex are trying to track down
Jennica's clubs and cart.
Why would the killer go through
the trouble of moving them?
I don't know. Maybe to hide the
fact that Jennica was missing.
Well, if her clubs and
cart don't came back,
then people start asking questions.
But if the killer knew that
then they would have had
- to have been familiar with the course.
- Yeah, okay.
So, likely a club member
or someone on the staff.
- Right.
- Okay.
Yeah. So, Jesse, we need to find
out who was at the club last night.
Um, any luck with the CCTV?
Not a lot. I mean,
there's one at the clubhouse patio
and then a gatehouse camera
capturing arrivals and departures.
- [KEYBOARD CLACKING]
- Okay, well, we'll start
with the gatehouse camera
because we need to find out
- who was at that club last night.
- Okay.
CHARLIE: Track it.
[REX SNIFFING]
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
[REX BARKING]
Those are the new trial hybrids.
You've got to get on a wait-list
to try those bad boys out.
Rex tracked Jennica's
scent to these clubs.
Did she have them yesterday?
Not according to the logs but,
it wouldn't be unlike Jennica
to take what she wanted
without letting the staff know.
Is there anything
logged for their return?
Yeah. The trial hybrids
were returned this morning by Luke.
- [DOOR OPENS]
- Groundskeeper.
Ah, he's right there.
Hey, Luke!
This cop has got some questions.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Rex.
[ROCK MUSIC]
[REX SNARLING]
[LUKE GASPING]
[FABRIC TEARING]
Yeah, I see it.
On your feet. Come on, let's go.
- What's this about?
- [REX BARKS]
What exactly is in here?
Nothing!
- It's nothing.
- [REX BARKS]
Well, that's not what he says.
Open it up, let's see.
Drugs.
[ZIPPER OPENING]
And a dead woman's wallet.
- I can explain everything, I swear.
- Come on.
[ENERGETIC MUSIC]
- [CAR ENGINE ROARING]
- CHARLIE: Come on.
I only ran from you and the dog
- because I had drugs on me!
- His name's Rex.
And you shouldn't have had those drugs.
- Personal use man, I swear.
- Uh-huh.
Where were you last night?
At a concert. I wasn't at work!
Well, you have keys to get
in and out of the golf course
before or after any concert.
There's about 30 TikTok
videos of me and my friends
before and after the concert.
- Is TikTok an alibi?
- We'll see.
What about today? Where
did you find the clubs?
In the pro shop this morning.
They were in the wrong spot so, I
put them back and logged them in.
Anyone see you?
Mmmm.
Uh-huh.
Where did you find this?
I was restocking toilet paper in
the women's locker room and saw it.
I knew it was Jennica's. I was
going to give it back to her.
And was this before any
of the female members
came into the course this morning?
So, nobody can verify this either?
I know this looks bad but I dug Jennica.
I mean, if anyone had it
out for her, it was Raffi.
I caught him and
Jennica arguing yesterday.
I recorded the whole thing.
RAFFI: You're a crook!
You're stealing from Sossi.
Ten per cent is highway robbery!
JENNICA: Barron, chill.
This isn't theft.
Read the contract you signed.
RAFFI: I don't need to read anything!
I'm going to kill you if you
don't give the money back!
Watch me!
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
RAFFI: You're stealing from Sossi.
- Ten per cent is highway robbery!
- JENNICA: Barron, chill.
This isn't theft.
Read the contract you signed.
RAFFI: I don't need to read anything!
I'm going to kill you if you
don't give the money back!
- That is not the Raffi that I know.
- [REX WHINES]
- How old is this?
- That was recorded at 5:20 yesterday.
Right after Sossi finished
hitting balls with Jennica.
JESSE: Look, I did some digging.
The contract refers to
the terms that they drew up
when Jennica sponsored
Sossi's amateur career.
Now in return for the sponsorship,
Jennica gets to keep ten
per cent of Sossi's winnings
in perpetuity.
I just cannot believe that
Raffi would kill somebody!
- Not for money!
- CHARLIE: I mean if Sossi
is going to be the
next Brooke Henderson,
ten per cent of her earnings
could be worth millions of dollars.
Joe, I know he's your friend, but
Jesse, tell him what you found.
JESSE: The gatehouse CCTV.
It shows Raffi leaving at 11:00 PM.
He said he left at 9:30.
[JOE SIGHS]
[REX WHINES]
Bring him in.
Sossi's mom was good
at the business stuff.
I never was.
When she passed, it became my job.
I'm ashamed. I signed
a bad deal with Jennica
as far as I could see.
You run a golf course and
you have a staff of 60.
Joe tells me you're a pretty smart man.
Street smart. People smart. Not
fine print smart.
You threatened to kill Jennica
on the same day that she was murdered.
That didn't sound street smart to me.
That sounds like you're serious!
I say a lot of things when I'm mad.
When Luke did a sloppy
job of the water hazard,
I threatened to key his car!
[RAFFI SIGHS]
You stayed at the golf course
until 11:00. Why'd you lie to us?
Paperwork must have taken
longer than I thought.
I didn't mean to lie.
I have nothing to hide.
Look, Jennica and I fought.
But then I called Sossi
and she explained everything.
Jennica only gets a cut from winnings.
Every other dollar that
Sossi earns from endorsements,
appearances, books, is Sossi's.
And that's where the real money is.
So, Sossi confirmed
everything that Raffi said.
A daughter protecting her father?
Maybe, but without motive,
we need hard evidence
to tie him to the case.
Well, cause of death is asphyxiation
caused by a thin, straight rod
being pushed down on her
neck with great force.
Thin straight rod, kind
of like a golf club shaft?
Yeah, that would be consistent.
The killer pushed the club on her throat
until it fractured her hyoid.
Now, I processed the set
of clubs that Jennica used.
There were various prints
on all the club grips except
for the putter.
Nothing there.
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
DONOVAN: You think the killer
wiped it clean to cover their tracks?
Those are my thoughts exactly.
Then there's what I found when I
turned Jennica's body over. Here.
Look at this.
These bruises and scrapes
would have happened either right
before or during the murder.
They're not consistent
with the course turf.
I think Jennica
was run over by a golf cart
before she was strangled.
- Good Lord.
- I know.
Anyway, I don't think
this was premeditated.
I'm gonna process the cart lockup.
Find the cart the killer drove
and maybe that can help us with an ID.
Yeah.
Jesse, have you reviewed
Raffi's financials?
Well, uh yeah., From what I can tell
I mean, he's in solid shape. No debt.
He pays his bills like clockwork.
So, he has no money pressure?
No, no. The Chopjian family
lives well within their means.
I mean Sossi, she sprung
for a new car for her father
after her big win but other than that
It sounds like the only
thing they couldn't afford
was Sossi's amateur run.
Yeah and Jennica took care of that.
You said Jennica's
family is in business.
Yeah. They're very wealthy.
From what I understand,
she lived off of a trust
fund while she was in school.
So, we are satisfied
that Raffi didn't have a
motivation to harm Jennica?
Raffi has a temper.
By his own account, Joe. Look
He might not have
been motivated by greed
but he was afraid that
he'd let his daughter down
by agreeing to an unfair contract.
- Was it unfair?
- JESSE: It didn't seem shady to me.
Agents get ten per cent, right?
Yeah, I'm just impressed that
Sossi and Jennica
actually had the diligence
- to make a formal agreement.
- I know, I don't even do that
when I lend my friends money.
Hey, never lend your friends
more than you're willing to lose.
Oh no, I know.
Some of my buddies are a gamble.
Brandon.
Hey, what about that groundskeeper
that Rex found the drugs on?
JESSE: Luke. Yeah, I'm
checking his TikTok alibi.
I just need to verify the post
times against other sources.
Yeah, we'll hang on to him
for drug possession for now.
[REX BARKS]
CHARLIE: Yeah, golf course?
[REX WHINES]
Golf course.
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
CHARLIE: Yeah, I agree.
This wasn't premeditated.
There are better ways
to get away with murder
but the evidence shows
that the killer knew
- the ins and outs of the club.
- [REX SNIFFS]
- [REX BARKING]
- The cart lockup.
- The sand pile.
- You still think it's Raffi?
Well, he's the only person that we can
place at the club at
the time of the murder.
Looks like the cord's been cut.
[INDISTINCT PA]
Somebody cut the security
cameras to cover their tracks.
[SARAH SIGHS] Okay. Well,
I'll start with the steering wheels.
If the killer was smart enough
to wipe down the golf clubs
then they probably did
the same thing here.
So, you just look for the odd cart out.
- The one without any fingerprints.
- Yeah.
JESSE: Hey! Boss, I
have something you should see.
I don't think anyone should see that.
What's wrong with orange?
Rickie Fowler wears orange.
Okay. What I wanted you to see is this.
I got to the CCTV from the side
patio of the clubhouse.
This is from the night of the murder.
That's Ulla Joyce!
She's a club member.
Old money.
- What's she doing?
- Well, I have her entering the clubhouse
- at 6:40 PM.
- What time does she leave?
Nothing on there but the
gatehouse cam catches her
driving off at 1:00 AM.
That does put her on the course
at the time of the murder.
So, Raffi wasn't the only
one there after hours.
- Yeah. I'm giving Charlie a call.
- Okay.
Okay, well I guess my work is better
than my fashion sense, huh, boss?
I wasn't gonna say anything, but
[QUIRKY MUSIC]
[INDISTINCT PA]
Based on her tee-off time,
Ulla's foursome should
be finishing up about now.
Yeah. There they are.
I should have remembered to
mention Ulla to you, Detective,
when I talked to you earlier.
What were you gonna mention to me?
[BAXTER SIGHS] Ulla and
Jennica were suing each other.
Hi, buddy!
Hi! Oh my gosh!
Ladies, excuse me.
Detective Hudson.
I'm looking for Ulla Joyce.
She stopped playing a few holes ago.
Said she wasn't feeling well.
BAXTER: Her clubs are right here.
CHARLIE: Rex, track it.
[REX SNIFFS]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
- [REX BARKS]
- [ULLA GASPS]
[ULLA GROANS]
[ULLA SIGHS] This place is cursed.
I really need to switch
to the other club.
What do you mean by cursed?
Six divorces among
members in the last year.
Now Jennica's murder and then
that caddy who disappeared,
what, 15 years ago?
It's a dark cloud.
- [ULLA GROANS]
- You feeling okay?
Can I sit down?
Please.
[ULLA SIGHS]
Can you tell me about your
lawsuit against Jennica Malouf?
She sued my catering company
for breach of contract
but I was suing her
right back, for slander.
- Did you have a case?
- You bet I did.
I catered her birthday party.
It went off without a hitch.
After I sent her the invoice,
she starts to complain,
Oh the canapés were cold.
The ceviche was mushy.
- She just didn't want to pay me.
- Mmmm.
After Jennica started
badmouthing my food,
seven members cancelled
their bookings with me.
One of those cancelled
bookings was 200K alone.
Two wow.
And the hit to your reputation as well.
You ever think about killing her?
I wouldn't kill Jennica for money.
That's what the lawsuit was for.
What were you doing
at the club last night?
Um
I had a few too many at lunch yesterday.
So, I was sleeping it
off at the clubhouse.
Were you sleeping it off
in your car today as well?
I was but it's not a crime to
sober up or to be litigious.
The only reason Jennica
was suing me to begin with
was because she's broke!
I thought she had a trust fund.
That's what she wanted
everyone to think.
I'm the club treasurer.
Jennica was six months
behind on club fees.
She was this close to being kicked out.
Why wasn't she?
Because her fees were finally paid.
By who?
Alistair Waite.
He loves to be the
knight in shining armour.
That's how he won over his wife, Monica.
[REX WHINES]
[ROCK MUSIC]
Sure, I paid Jennica's overdue fees.
She said her stepmother
froze her trust fund.
And she needed a loan.
[REX WHINES]
[REX BARKS]
Not now, pal.
Well, you might as
well join me, Detective,
while we talk.
You and Jennica must have been close.
Not really. Again, it was only a
loan until Sossi started winning.
- I mean, I'm sentimental, not stupid.
- Mmm.
[REX WHINES]
Nice shot. [ALISTAIR CLEARS THROAT]
Rex, let's go.
You know, there was no guarantee that
Sossi was gonna make enough money
to pay off Jennica's loan to you.
Sure, it was a bit of a gamble
but I can afford the risk.
Besides, I know what it's like when a
parent tries to control
a child with their money.
You're a legacy member, right?
Yeah. Three generations.
Ulla mentioned a caddy who
went missing a few years ago.
- Were you around for that?
- Ulla.
Ulla loves to gossip.
I bet she told you I can't resist
a damsel in distress, either.
- [CHARLIE CHUCKLES]
- Hey, don't knock it till you try it, okay?
The knight act, it's my wife Monica's
favourite thing about me.
So, this caddy that she had mentioned?
Yeah.
That was Jack Costigan.
What do you remember about him?
Jack was a friend of mine.
He was a good guy.
But he didn't disappear.
He skipped town.
My guess, he was running
from gambling debts.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Oof!
[ALISTAIR LAUGHS]
I could use him for my short game.
What's his caddying fee?
Any luck?
SARAH: I found Jennica's prints
on the top of the
enclosure and the seat.
I also found a strand
of hair resembling hers
- on the headrest.
- Hmm.
So, this could be the cart
that she took on her twilight round.
Any prints on the steering wheel?
No, wiped clean like we expected.
Oh, I also found this
down the back of the seat.
Drugs.
- Jennica's?
- Nothing showed up on her tox screen.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[INDISTINCT PA]
[REX BARKS]
What have you got, pal?
[REX BARKS]
[REX BARKS]
Yeah, I see it.
[FABRIC TEARING]
[REX SNIFFS]
[REX BARKS]
I think I know who these belong to.
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
Hey, Luke. Uh, the drugs
that Rex found on you,
they weren't for personal use, huh?
Was Jennica a client?
We also discovered that
the carts lockup's security
camera was disabled.
[LUKE SCOFFS] That wasn't me.
Hmmm.
You know, Luke, you're
facing some pretty serious
drug charges right now. So,
now would be
a really bad time time
to lie about a cable.
Fine.
Yeah, I cut it.
I deal out of the lockup.
Members text me the cart they've booked.
I slip the pills in. No contact,
- low risk.
- Mm-hmm.
I don't think you found that wallet.
I think you went into Jennica's locker
and you took it to settle up her tab.
And remember,
now is not the time to lie.
Fine.
Yeah. I went in her locker.
That's when I found her pregnancy test.
She was knocked up.
She had a positive pregnancy test?
Yeah. I don't deal
to expecting mothers, okay?
But I took the test to confront her.
But I didn't get the chance.
Where is this test now?
I tested Jennica's HCG
levels. She wasn't pregnant.
- Then whose was it?
- There was a partial print on it
- but it's not in the system.
- Sossi.
We've been hearing this entire
case how close the two were.
But if Sossi wanted to hide a pregnancy,
why do the test at the club?
Well, maybe she wasn't hiding it.
Maybe she did the test
with her best friend.
Didn't think twice.
But why would Jennica keep it?
What was the value of a
pregnancy test that isn't yours?
Convince someone you're pregnant?
Didn't Sossi tell you
that Jennica was single?
Yeah, I guess there's
gotta be more to the story.
Hmm.
[REX GROANS]
JESSE: So, you were telling me
that you became a club member
for the networking
and not for the gossip?
Do I even want to know
what you've found out?
Yeah, you do.
I mean, duelling
lawsuits, financial ruin.
- Maybe even a secret love child.
- Wait, financial ruin?
I exaggerate but
Yeah, Jennica's parents, it turns out,
turned off the tap. She was
scrambling to pay her bills.
Oh yeah, it turns out
that Alistair Waite
paid for her club fees this year.
Out of the goodness of his
heart, according to him.
I don't know. Maybe there's
something else going on there.
I'm sorry, Alistair?
CHARLIE: Yeah.
No, I've never met a man
more doting on his wife than Alistair.
Everyone loves him and Monica together.
Okay. Uh, well Alistair aside,
I mean, Jennica was in need of money
and she could have
used the pregnancy test
as leverage over someone she was seeing.
Sossi's on her way in right now.
I'll see what she has to say.
JESSE: Oh, by the way, I
corroborated Luke Gill's TikTok alibi
with other social media from
the concert. It checks out.
So, now all he has to worry
about are the drug charges
and finding another job.
Oh, speaking of club employees,
I spoke with Ulla Joyce.
And she said something about
a caddy who went missing at the
golf course years ago?
A missing caddy?
No, that must have been before my time.
You think that has something
to do with Jennica's murder?
It was probably before
her time, too but
- [PHONE BUZZING]
- Jesse, see what you can dig up on it.
- Yeah, I'm on it.
- Joe Donovan.
Okay.
Thanks.
- That's Sossi. She's on her way.
- Great.
[JESSE CHUCKLES] Admit it.
- You joined for the gossip.
- No, I joined for the networking.
I stayed for the gossip.
[REX GROANS]
Yes. I'm pregnant.
My dad's already making
plans to train a new golfer.
My boyfriend and I share
the same sports agent.
So, we're just taking
our time announcing.
Congratulations.
Uh, have a seat.

- [REX BARKS]

CHARLIE: We think it was moved from

Rex found a finger bone there
and tracked it to a new burial site.
The skeleton belonged to an adult
male based on the pelvic bone.
How long was it under the shed?
Buried bones are susceptible
to seasonal decay.
The freezing and thawing
over time creates tiny cracks.
It looks like longer than a year
but I'll have to get a sample
under a microscope
- to be more precise.
- So, why move the body now?
The course was gonna get a facelift
and the maintenance shed was
scheduled to be torn down.
So, the body would have been found.
[REX WHINES]
The place where Jennica
was struck by the golf cart
is between the maintenance
shed and the new burial site.
DONOVAN: So, maybe
Maybe she caught them in
the act of moving the body.
That's why she was
killed. She was a witness.
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
So, if Charlie's theory is right,
- the motive is strong.
- So, the killer
takes the shovel from
the maintenance shed,
uses it to dig a hole in
the woods to bury the body?
Yeah but, Jennica interrupts them.
They run her down, strangle
her and then use the
and then use the very same shovel
to bury her where we found her.
And then Raffi shows up!
And it spooks them and they
leave the shovel behind.
But the killer knew that
their prints would be on the shovel.
So, that's why they took
it from Raffi's office.
- Right, right.
- [JESSE SIGHS]
Do you have the missing persons report
from the Williamswood caddy case 2008?
- Yeah. Yeah, I do, here.
- Thank you.
Jack Costigan.
28 years old from Corner Brook.
His parents have since passed.
Yeah, members of the
club gave statements.
They said that his car was
found on a ferry two days later.
And Jack was never heard from again.
So, maybe that car was
planted on the ferry
in order to derail the search.
Our skeleton is Jack Costigan!
CHARLIE: Jack Costigan's
been missing for 15 years.
Well, that's consistent with
the age of the bone sample.
I'm still waiting on dental
records to confirm the ID
but here, have a look at this.
The hyoid is fractured.
Jennica Malouf's hyoid
was fractured too.
Yeah, and I also found
signs of skeletal trauma
on the C4/C5 vertebrae
which is consistent with the bruising
on the C4/5 on Jennica's spine.
So, they were killed in the same way?
We can tie the manner
of death to both murders.
Jennica and Jack were likely
killed by the same person.
CHARLIE: The only person who knew
where Jack was buried was the killer.
And that's who killed Jennica.
So, the attack on Raffi
presumably rules him out.
Yeah well, at least he wasn't
the one who knocked out Rex.
[REX WHINES]
Plus Raffi and Sossi were
in Armenia 15 years ago.
JESSE: Based on the police statements
from Jack's missing person case,
you know, before he disappeared,
Jack liked to gamble.
He was even known to make
bets with club members.
Do any of his family
members corroborate that?
JESSE: No. No, they didn't
believe he had a gambling problem
or that he'd have any
reason to leave town voluntarily.
They figured he was happy
and in love with a woman
who worked at the club.
What was her name?
I'll check the statements.
Jack's clothing has
deteriorated over time
but I did find some debris of a
decaying scorecard in his pocket.
So, he was playing a round
of golf when he was killed?
Could have been.

Jennica only gets a cut from winnings.
Every other dollar that
Sossi earns from endorsements,

And that's where the real money is.
So, Sossi confirmed
everything that Raffi said.
A daughter protecting her father?
Maybe, but without motive,
we need hard evidence
to tie him to the case.
Well, cause of death is asphyxiation
caused by a thin, straight rod
being pushed down on her

Thin straight rod, kind
of like a golf club shaft?
Yeah, that would be consistent.
The killer pushed the club on her throat

Well, uh yeah., From what I can tell
I mean, he's in solid shape. No debt.
He pays his bills like clockwork.
So, he has no money pressure?
No, no. The Chopjian family
lives well within their means.
I mean Sossi, she sprung

It sounds like the only
thing they couldn't afford
was Sossi's amateur run.
Yeah and Jennica took care of that.

Yeah. They're very wealthy.
From what I understand,
she lived off of a trust

So, we are satisfied

Raffi has a temper.
By his own account, Joe. Look

he'd let his daughter down
by agreeing to an unfair contract.

Well, he's the only person that we can

Looks like the cord's been cut.
[INDISTINCT PA]
Somebody cut the security
cameras to cover their tracks.
[SARAH SIGHS] Okay. Well,
I'll start with the steering wheels.
If the killer was smart enough
to wipe down the golf clubs
then they probably did
the same thing here.
So, you just look for the odd cart out.
- The one without any fingerprints.
- Yeah.
JESSE: Hey! Boss, I
have something you should see.
I don't think anyone should see that.
What's wrong with orange?
Rickie Fowler wears orange.
Okay. What I wanted you to see is this.
I got to the CCTV from the side
patio of the clubhouse.
This is from the night of the murder.
That's Ulla Joyce!
She's a club member.
Old money.
- What's she doing?
- Well, I have her entering the clubhouse
- at 6:40 PM.
- What time does she leave?
Nothing on there but the
gatehouse cam catches her
driving off at 1:00 AM.
That does put her on the course
at the time of the murder.
So, Raffi wasn't the only
one there after hours.
- Yeah. I'm giving Charlie a call.
- Okay.
Okay, well I guess my work is better
than my fashion sense, huh, boss?

What were you gonna mention to me?
[BAXTER SIGHS] Ulla and
Jennica were suing each other.
Hi, buddy!
Hi! Oh my gosh!
Ladies, excuse me.
Detective Hudson.
I'm looking for Ulla Joyce.
She stopped playing a few holes ago.

[ULLA GROANS]
[ULLA SIGHS] This place is cursed.
I really need to switch
to the other club.
What do you mean by cursed?
Six divorces among
members in the last year.
Now Jennica's murder and then
that caddy who disappeared,
what, 15 years ago?
It's a dark cloud.
- [ULLA GROANS]
- You feeling okay?
Can I sit down?
Please.
[ULLA SIGHS]
Can you tell me about your
lawsuit against Jennica Malouf?
She sued my catering company
for breach of contract
but I was suing her
right back, for slander.
- Did you have a case?
- You bet I did.
I catered her birthday party.
It went off without a hitch.
After I sent her the invoice,
she starts to complain,
Oh the canapés were cold.
The ceviche was mushy.
- She just didn't want to pay me.
- Mmmm.
After Jennica started
badmouthing my food,
seven members cancelled
their bookings with me.
One of those cancelled
bookings was 200K alone.
Two wow.
And the hit to your reputation as well.
You ever think about killing her?
I wouldn't kill Jennica for money.
That's what the lawsuit was for.
What were you doing
at the club last night?
Um
I had a few too many at lunch yesterday.
So, I was sleeping it
off at the clubhouse.
Were you sleeping it off
in your car today as well?
I was but it's not a crime to
sober up or to be litigious.
The only reason Jennica
was suing me to begin with
was because she's broke!
I thought she had a trust fund.
That's what she wanted
everyone to think.
I'm the club treasurer.
Jennica was six months
behind on club fees.
She was this close to being kicked out.
Why wasn't she?
Because her fees were finally paid.
By who?
Alistair Waite.
He loves to be the
knight in shining armour.
That's how he won over his wife, Monica.
[REX WHINES]
[ROCK MUSIC]
Sure, I paid Jennica's overdue fees.
She said her stepmother
froze her trust fund.
And she needed a loan.
[REX WHINES]
[REX BARKS]
Not now, pal.
Well, you might as
well join me, Detective,
while we talk.
You and Jennica must have been close.
Not really. Again, it was only a
loan until Sossi started winning.
- I mean, I'm sentimental, not stupid.
- Mmm.
[REX WHINES]
Nice shot. [ALISTAIR CLEARS THROAT]
Rex, let's go.
You know, there was no guarantee that
Sossi was gonna make enough money
to pay off Jennica's loan to you.
Sure, it was a bit of a gamble
but I can afford the risk.
Besides, I know what it's like when a
parent tries to control
a child with their money.
You're a legacy member, right?
Yeah. Three generations.
Ulla mentioned a caddy who
went missing a few years ago.
- Were you around for that?
- Ulla.
Ulla loves to gossip.
I bet she told you I can't resist
a damsel in distress, either.
- [CHARLIE CHUCKLES]
- Hey, don't knock it till you try it, okay?
The knight act, it's my wife Monica's
favourite thing about me.
So, this caddy that she had mentioned?
Yeah.
That was Jack Costigan.
What do you remember about him?
Jack was a friend of mine.
He was a good guy.
But he didn't disappear.
He skipped town.
My guess, he was running
from gambling debts.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Oof!
[ALISTAIR LAUGHS]
I could use him for my short game.
What's his caddying fee?
Any luck?
SARAH: I found Jennica's prints
on the top of the

I also found a strand
of hair resembling hers
- on the headrest.
- Hmm.
So, this could be the cart
that she took on her twilight round.
Any prints on the steering wheel?
No, wiped clean like we expected.
Oh, I also found this

[LUKE SCOFFS] That wasn't me.
Hmmm.
You know, Luke, you're

drug charges right now. So,
now would be
a really bad time time

Fine.
Yeah, I cut it.
I deal out of the lockup.
Members text me the cart they've booked.
I slip the pills in. No contact,
- low risk.
- Mm-hmm.
I don't think you found that wallet.
I think you went into Jennica's locker
and you took it to settle up her tab.
And remember,
now is not the time to lie.
Fine.
Yeah. I went in her locker.
That's when I found her pregnancy test.
She was knocked up.
She had a positive pregnancy test?
Yeah. I don't deal
to expecting mothers, okay?
But I took the test to confront her.
But I didn't get the chance.
Where is this test now?
I tested Jennica's HCG
levels. She wasn't pregnant.
- Then whose was it?
- There was a partial print on it
- but it's not in the system.
- Sossi.
We've been hearing this entire
case how close the two were.
But if Sossi wanted to hide a pregnancy,
why do the test at the club?
Well, maybe she wasn't hiding it.
Maybe she did the test
with her best friend.
Didn't think twice.
But why would Jennica keep it?
What was the value of a
pregnancy test that isn't yours?
Convince someone you're pregnant?
Didn't Sossi tell you
that Jennica was single?
Yeah, I guess there's
gotta be more to the story.
Hmm.
[REX GROANS]
JESSE: So, you were telling me
that you became a club member
for the networking
and not for the gossip?
Do I even want to know
what you've found out?
Yeah, you do.
I mean, duelling
lawsuits, financial ruin.
- Maybe even a secret love child.
- Wait, financial ruin?
I exaggerate but
Yeah, Jennica's parents, it turns out,
turned off the tap. She was
scrambling to pay her bills.
Oh yeah, it turns out
that Alistair Waite
paid for her club fees this year.
Out of the goodness of his
heart, according to him.
I don't know. Maybe there's
something else going on there.
I'm sorry, Alistair?
CHARLIE: Yeah.
No, I've never met a man
more doting on his wife than Alistair.
Everyone loves him and Monica together.
Okay. Uh, well Alistair aside,
I mean, Jennica was in need of money
and she could have
used the pregnancy test
as leverage over someone she was seeing.
Sossi's on her way in right now.
I'll see what she has to say.
JESSE: Oh, by the way, I
corroborated Luke Gill's TikTok alibi
with other social media from
the concert. It checks out.
So, now all he has to worry
about are the drug charges
and finding another job.
Oh, speaking of club employees,
I spoke with Ulla Joyce.
And she said something about
a caddy who went missing at the
golf course years ago?
A missing caddy?
No, that must have been before my time.
You think that has something
to do with Jennica's murder?
It was probably before
her time, too but
- [PHONE BUZZING]
- Jesse, see what you can dig up on it.
- Yeah, I'm on it.
- Joe Donovan.
Okay.
Thanks.
- That's Sossi. She's on her way.

[JESSE CHUCKLES] Admit it.
- You joined for the gossip.
- No, I joined for the networking.
I stayed for the gossip.
[REX GROANS]

My dad's already making
plans to train a new golfer.
My boyfriend and I share
the same sports agent.
So, we're just taking
our time announcing.
Congratulations.
Uh, have a seat.
So, will this affect your tour?
No, it wont affect any
- of the days on the circuit.
- Hmm.
Do you have any idea
how your pregnancy test
got into Jennica's locker?
No.
I have no clue why she would
have taken it out of the trash.
She couldn't have been
trying to convince anybody
that she was pregnant? You're
sure she wasn't seeing anybody?
Well
[CHARLIE SIGHS]
Sossi.
I'm going to need you to
tell me the whole story.
Okay.

CHARLIE: We think it was moved from

Rex found a finger bone there
and tracked it to a new burial site.
The skeleton belonged to an adult
male based on the pelvic bone.
How long was it under the shed?
Buried bones are susceptible
to seasonal decay.
The freezing and thawing
over time creates tiny cracks.
It looks like longer than a year
but I'll have to get a sample
under a microscope
- to be more precise.
- So, why move the body now?
The course was gonna get a facelift
and the maintenance shed was
scheduled to be torn down.
So, the body would have been found.
[REX WHINES]
The place where Jennica
was struck by the golf cart
is between the maintenance
shed and the new burial site.
DONOVAN: So, maybe
Maybe she caught them in
the act of moving the body.
That's why she was
killed. She was a witness.
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
So, if Charlie's theory is right,
- the motive is strong.
- So, the killer
takes the shovel from
the maintenance shed,
uses it to dig a hole in
the woods to bury the body?
Yeah but, Jennica interrupts them.
They run her down, strangle
her and then use the
and then use the very same shovel
to bury her where we found her.
And then Raffi shows up!
And it spooks them and they
leave the shovel behind.
But the killer knew that
their prints would be on the shovel.
So, that's why they took
it from Raffi's office.
- Right, right.
- [JESSE SIGHS]
Do you have the missing persons report
from the Williamswood caddy case 2008?
- Yeah. Yeah, I do, here.
- Thank you.
Jack Costigan.
28 years old from Corner Brook.
His parents have since passed.
Yeah, members of the
club gave statements.
They said that his car was
found on a ferry two days later.
And Jack was never heard from again.
So, maybe that car was
planted on the ferry
in order to derail the search.
Our skeleton is Jack Costigan!
CHARLIE: Jack Costigan's
been missing for 15 years.
Well, that's consistent with
the age of the bone sample.
I'm still waiting on dental
records to confirm the ID
but here, have a look at this.
The hyoid is fractured.
Jennica Malouf's hyoid
was fractured too.
Yeah, and I also found
signs of skeletal trauma
on the C4/C5 vertebrae
which is consistent with the bruising
on the C4/5 on Jennica's spine.
So, they were killed in the same way?
We can tie the manner
of death to both murders.
Jennica and Jack were likely
killed by the same person.
CHARLIE: The only person who knew
where Jack was buried was the killer.
And that's who killed Jennica.
So, the attack on Raffi
presumably rules him out.
Yeah well, at least he wasn't
the one who knocked out Rex.
[REX WHINES]
Plus Raffi and Sossi were
in Armenia 15 years ago.
JESSE: Based on the police statements
from Jack's missing person case,
you know, before he disappeared,
Jack liked to gamble.
He was even known to make
bets with club members.
Do any of his family
members corroborate that?
JESSE: No. No, they didn't
believe he had a gambling problem
or that he'd have any
reason to leave town voluntarily.
They figured he was happy
and in love with a woman
who worked at the club.
What was her name?
I'll check the statements.
Jack's clothing has
deteriorated over time
but I did find some debris of a
decaying scorecard in his pocket.
So, he was playing a round
of golf when he was killed?
