Homicide: Life on the Street s07e02 Episode Script
Brotherly Love
That is the last time you drive me to a crime scene.
- What did I do? - What didn't you do? You tailgate, you change lanes without signalling.
- And you ran that red light.
- No, that light was yellow.
Yellowish.
- I've heard about your accidents.
- None of which were my fault.
You rear-ended a parked ME van.
How was that not your fault? Keys.
Who's the dead guy? David Ralston.
Single entrance wound, upper torso.
Who called it in? Neighbour knocked to complain about a TV.
No answer so he dialled 911.
Is that the murder weapon you got in your hand? This gun's fully loaded.
I found it lying next to the body.
- Any signs of a break-in? - No, nothing seems to be missing.
Has he got a wife or a roommate? Lives with his brother who wasn't home.
Aside from that, the next of kin is the mother, Mrs Faye Ann Ralston.
Lives on Eastern in Kent.
Is he talking to you, Doc? Gunshot to the chest likely cause of death.
No harm in going with the obvious.
It's funny.
There's two of everything in there.
Two chairs, two sofas, two matching ashtrays on two matching coffee tables.
Hoskins was just saying the guy lived here with his brother.
Two televisions? Maybe they couldn't decide between "Hercules" and "Xena".
All right, well, let's go ask Mom.
Hey, bag him up there, Doc! - Mrs Ralston? - Yes.
I'm Detective Lewis.
This is Detective Sheppard.
Baltimore City Homicide.
- Yes? - We're here about your son.
- What about him? - Your son was found dead this evening.
Mom? What is it? It's the police.
Can I help you? Biker magazine? Huh.
Stu, I always thought of you as a "Reader's Digest" kinda guy.
Hey, I'm not a "Reader's Digest" kinda guy.
Maybe I look like a "Reader's Digest" kinda guy.
But inside you're a red hot biker guy just waiting to break out.
Well, like Bayliss says, my outer self is no longer representative of my inner self, I need a change.
Homicide.
- I'm thinking of buying a motorcycle.
- Great.
OK, Easy Rider, let's go.
We got a dead teen over at Hopkins.
- What's that? - What's what? - That.
- That's a book that I got for Rene.
- "Zen for Beginners"? - She was asking me about Buddhism.
You're concerned with her wellbeing? Absolutely.
Probably I'm also thinking she might go out with me.
You're interested in Rene romantically? Yeah, yeah, why not? She's single, she's beautiful and she's very open-minded.
- I knew it about you all along.
- What's that, John? Beneath all that dogma, you're still a dog.
So, you and David were identical twins, huh? Yeah.
Dave was five minutes older.
Do you know who killed him? No.
Do you have any idea who might have wanted him dead? Of course not.
It must have been a burglar.
When did you last see your brother alive? This afternoon sometime.
You got here at five.
The drive's about 20 minutes.
So that means you left the house at about twenty to five? Yeah, that sounds about right.
What were your brother's plans for this evening? Er, his girlfriend Susan Dehen was coming over to the house.
That's why Adam was spending the night here, to give them privacy.
Do you know where Susan Dehen is now? If she wasn't at the house, she's probably home.
I'll get you her address.
Victim is Scotty Myers, gunshot to the head.
- He say anything about who shot him? - No, ADASTW.
- What? - Arrived dead and stayed that way.
His friend brought him in.
- Where's his friend? - Waiting in the hall.
- There's more to the story.
- How much more? Kid claims he drove the victim to the ER as soon as he got shot.
- What, you don't believe him? - Not with that much bleeding.
The bullet didn't kill him outright.
He bled to death on the way here.
Is this the kid? What's his name? David is dead and, as far as you know, I'm the last person to see him alive? What time did you leave David's house tonight, Miss Dehen? Probably around 7:00, 7:30.
Can anyone verify that? No.
You don't believe me? Well, it just seems a little odd, you know, you coming home from a date at 7:30.
- What can I say? I got fed up.
- Fed up by what? Too much twinnage.
David and Adam lived together, they worked together, they ate together, watched television together, went to bed at the same time.
This past summer David took me away for the weekend, a beautiful bed and breakfast in Vermont.
Guess who showed up? Adam spent the evening at his mother's house to give you two time alone.
I told David I wouldn't sleep with him with his brother in the house.
Tonight Adam wasn't in the house.
You still got fed up? I never had a chance with David.
He wasn't in love with me.
He was in love with his twin brother.
So you were sitting in a parked car minding your own business, and somebody drove by and shot him? Yeah, and then I drove him here.
I thought he would be OK.
He was even talking to me in the car.
- What street were you on? - Eager.
Eager.
That's, what, ten minutes away? - They must have hit traffic.
- I don't think there was that much traffic.
Listen, the nurse told us that Scotty bled to death before he got here.
So if you drove him here after he got shot and there wasn't much traffic, what is it that took so long? Maybe there was more than I thought.
These are minutes I'm gonna be begging for on my death bed.
I think I'm gonna lock you up for shooting your friend.
- I didn't shoot him.
- Sit down.
Listen, Dean, why don't you just tell us what really happened tonight? All right, we weren't on Eager.
- We were in DC.
- Washington DC? Doing what? Buying crystal meth.
How did Scotty get shot? All right, we pull up to make a buy, and this dealer says he wants 9.
50 an ounce.
Scotty says, "Screw you, we only pay eight in Baltimore.
" This dealer freaks out, pulls out his gun and shoots Scotty in the head.
- And then what? - That's when I drove him here.
You drove him all the way to Baltimore.
There wasn't a closer hospital? If our parents found out we were scoring meth in DC, they'd kill us.
You think Susan Dehen murdered David Ralston? Out of jealousy? Yeah, maybe.
Or the twin could have done it.
I was thinking there was something real hinky about those two.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
They're inseparable, and then a girlfriend comes along.
Maybe Adam was jealous.
So what do we do now? Well, wait for the autopsy, wait for the crime lab.
Hope that some shred of evidence unerringly and conclusively points to a suspect.
- Until then we go home.
- Unless we try to make last call.
Thought you wanted to keep things professional.
I was talking about a beer.
Not foreplay.
Hey, Mike Giardello.
- I didn't know you were still in town.
- Hey.
I decided to stick around for a few weeks.
- I'm fixing up my cousin Mario's place.
- Well, good for you.
- Hey, Falsone? - Yeah? Buy you a drink? I never refuse free alcohol.
I'll take a Jack Daniels, rocks.
So what's up? I'm thinking of moving back to Baltimore.
I can understand that.
This is your home.
I want to spend some time with my grandmother.
And my father.
We can't have a relationship if I'm living in Arizona.
- Can the FBI move you to Baltimore? - I put in for a transfer.
The field office only has openings for agent liaisons to local PDs.
I heard about those agent liaisons.
I think Vice had a couple of Feds last year.
Thanks.
I'm thinking about one of those assignments to CIB.
Oh, yeah? If you ask my opinion, I'm all for it.
You'd be welcome.
You were a big help in your cousin's murder.
Actually we put it down because of you.
Well, I got an appointment tomorrow.
I mean, assuming the Bureau approves the transfer and the department has no objections, there's only one hurdle.
- What's that? - Breaking the news to my father.
Scotty was shot in this car in DC on an drug buying expedition.
But he wound up dead in a Baltimore hospital.
Kid bled to death on the way to the ER.
So this is a homicide.
Question is, is it a Baltimore homicide or a DC one? Can the friend that drove him identify the shooter? It was dark, he was scared.
He's not sure of the neighbourhood.
Well, this is looking more and more like it's not our jurisdiction.
Unless you want more red under your name.
Red's not my colour.
Call DC.
Be friendly, cooperate.
Share information and then stick them with the case.
I worked for David and Adam Ralston for five years.
They even had their desks side by side.
Those two get along OK? The only time they ever argued was when Susan came in.
I don't think Adam liked her.
Were the brothers friendly with their co-workers? David and Adam didn't need anyone else.
It was sort of sweet, actually.
Either sweet or perverted, I could never decide.
David was definitely the dominant twin of the two.
- If that's the term for it.
- What makes you say that? Well, any time David's girlfriend came over to the house, Adam would have to leave.
Adam never had a girlfriend? Never had a girlfriend.
Or boyfriend for that matter.
Guess you got to take that into account nowadays.
Adam was always looking up to David, watching him.
You got the feeling he was always trying to get his brother's attention.
Do you think Adam tried to compete with David's girlfriend? Yeah, I think Adam would have done anything to keep David all to himself.
A man with your reputation could have a real career in Washington.
- You were in Arizona because? - A personal relationship.
I see.
And now you want to stay in Baltimore because? I grew up here, my family's here.
- Your father's here.
- Yes.
If you come on to CIB, you're gonna be working with him in Homicide.
- You don't think that'll be a problem? - I don't see why.
We're professionals.
Does Al know you've requested this assignment? No, I didn't want to bring it up if I was going to be turned down.
Well, we have no reason to deny the request.
We're lucky to have you.
As soon as we hear from the Bureau, we'll make it official.
- I appreciate the opportunity.
- No.
Your father, he is a terrific man.
Hell of a cop.
I've always been very supportive of him.
But he does have a tendency to disregard the big picture sometimes.
As FBI liaison, Colonel Barnfather and I need to be apprised of your case files.
Do we understand each other? I think I understand you perfectly, Captain Gaffney.
'Detective Ballard? Joe Landrewsky, DC Narcotics.
' Hey.
How are you doing? This is my partner, Stu Gharty.
I wasn't expecting you guys so soon.
- But here is the file.
- I don't want the file.
How are your boys gonna work the case without the file? - We're not taking the case.
- Hey, the kid was killed in your city.
- You have no proof of that.
- My witness says it occurred in DC.
Your witness also said it was a drive-by in Baltimore.
- He was lying.
- And he's not lying about DC? Look, my superiors sent me up here to talk to you.
- I've talked to you.
I'm going home.
- Excuse me.
Wait.
I have a 17-year-old boy lying in the morgue, nothing else.
You walk away from me right now, I've got less than nothing.
The least you can do is talk to my witness.
Give me 20 minutes.
- Ten.
- Deal.
- Opera singing.
- No.
- Clog dancing.
- No.
- A trombone solo.
- No.
OK, I give up.
What did you do for the talent competition? It was a long time ago.
I don't want to talk about it.
Did you juggle flaming chainsaws? - Well, it makes me miss the old days.
- Which old days? When my detectives worked day and night, exhausted, unwashed, unfed, tireless in their single-minded pursuit to close a case.
Oh, gee, Gee.
We're working here.
Then why is Ralston's name still on the Board in red.
We have a suspect, the twin brother.
Why isn't he in the interrogation room? We were hoping for more to go on, like some evidence or a weapon.
- What about motive? - Jealousy of his brother's girlfriend.
You have potential to make a fine detective, Sheppard.
Don't pick up on Lewis' bad habits.
What did I do? In the past few years I've been getting soft, letting things slide, accepting less than the best.
This year that's all gonna change.
Consider yourselves on notice.
I blame you.
What is it about Sheppard? It's her height, isn't it? - It's not her height.
- It's her hair.
- Right.
No, it's not her hair.
- It's her height and her hair.
You know, Terri, I came to you to ask for some insight.
- She's a woman, you're a woman.
- Oh, thanks for noticing.
And I have not had much success in the past with women.
Well, the only advice I can give you is to take a number, behind Lewis, behind Falsone.
She's too tall for Falsone.
- I knew it was the height.
- It's not.
I was kidding.
Isn't it all karma? If you were meant to be together, you'd be together.
Look, what I know about karma is that the future is shaped by the way that we choose to act right now in the present moment.
Yeah, so she's already got Lewis and Falsone panting after her.
If you want to impress Rene, treat her like a detective first.
- Yeah.
Yeah, I knew that.
- Right? You knew that? Getting in touch with the universe is working for you.
Up until now you didn't have a clue about women.
I know that.
- This must be difficult.
- Being without your brother.
- Y'all being so close and all.
- Yeah.
I guess you never figured you'd be making funeral arrangements for him.
No.
I don't know, I guess I always thought we'd die together.
Living together, working together, never being separated.
Yeah.
Well, except when David met Susan.
David and I were still together.
Just imagine how hard that would be, trying to choose between the two people you love most in the world.
He chose me.
He chose you, you're his brother, but Susan's a very pretty girl.
And as close as you and your brother were, there were some things you just couldn't share.
Intimacy, sex.
Look, if you're trying to say there were problems between my brother and me, you're wrong, OK? Nobody could come between us, ever! End of story, OK? Look, there are arrangements I have to make for David's wake, so Unless you're saying I have to stay.
No, I'm not saying you have to stay.
Good, so you'll let me know when I can get the body back? Yeah, I'll put in a call to the ME.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
Oh, Mr Ralston? Do you always wear two watches? One was David's.
Found it in his dresser.
He only got it because I had one.
He always thought we had to have two of everything.
- Where's the crime lab report? - On your desk.
Why? David's unfired weapon, the one we found next to his body, was loaded with copper-jacketed rounds, not.
38s.
The ME pulled a copper-jacketed.
38 calibre round out of David's chest.
He was shot with a.
38.
It's a common model.
No, he was shot with exactly the same type of weapon as his own gun, the gun he had himself.
I didn't think nothing of it, but you said it yourself at the crime scene.
Adam and David own two of everything.
We only found one gun.
Adam's gun is missing.
If we tell Adam that we got the murder weapon, he knows we're lying.
But maybe his Momma won't.
We get her to admit she made up the alibi.
She's covering for her son.
Come on, let's go.
Let's pay another visit to old Mrs Ralston.
OK, so, Dean, you and Scotty were somewhere in DC.
You pulled over to make a drug buy and the dealer shot Scotty in the head.
- That's what happened.
- What did the dealer look like? - I don't remember.
- Sure you were in DC? Yeah, I'm sure I was in DC, definitely.
Let's get back to basics.
This dealer, he's black, white? He's black.
- There we go, that's a start.
- I'm pretty sure.
- What height? - I don't remember.
I was in the car.
Can you remember anything at all? The way that he was dressed? There was one thing.
One of his buddies on the sidewalk was calling him by his street name.
- What name? - Jojo.
- Is that it? Just Jojo? - Jojo? Jojo or Or Hojo.
You know, maybe it was Tiny.
Might have been Tiny.
- It was probably my fault.
- What was your fault? Well, I always treated them exactly the same.
I knew they were different.
If I'd treated them that way, like two separate individuals, maybe they wouldn't have felt they had to compete their whole lives.
You weren't surprised to hear about David's death, were you? I don't know what you mean.
Last night when we told you, you weren't shocked by the news.
- You already knew.
- No.
Look, if this was an accident, you need to tell us, all right? I have no idea what you're talking about.
- Adam was with me.
- You're his mother.
- Are you lying to protect him? - So what if I am? He's my son.
Well, what about your other son, huh? Don't you want his killer brought to justice? David's dead, Adam's alive.
I lost one son, I won't lose two.
I am a very convincing old lady.
I will get up on the stand and put my hand on the Bible and with tears in my eyes, I will swear that Adam was with me all night.
We need to go talk to Adam.
He's at the funeral home.
Those two could never stay apart.
- Hello, Al.
- Captain.
Just got a call from DC.
They told me you're trying to dump a case on them.
It's a jurisdictional matter.
A boy got shot in DC, wound up in a Baltimore hospital.
My detectives shouldn't take a case that occurred in DC.
DC should take the case.
My head is spinning, but none of that matters.
Chief of Police in DC put in a schmooze call to Barnfather.
They don't want this murder either.
Barnfather assured DC we'd figure it out.
How am I supposed to do that? You'll just have to figure it out.
By the way, Al, nice boy you got there.
- Really nice kid.
- You met my son? Didn't he tell you? - Tell me what? - I'm surprised he didn't mention it.
Mention what? Mike's applied for a transfer to Baltimore.
He's gonna to be a special agent liaison to CIB, including Homicide.
I think it is a real coup for the department.
He didn't tell you? Of course.
I just didn't know he was meeting with you about it.
A- ha.
Well Tootles, Al.
Naomi, get my son and tell him I want to talk to him.
And get Ballard and Gharty.
Tell them I want them in my office now.
This is a joke.
The shooting occurred in DC.
The kid was telling the truth.
What do I do? Arrest some nondescript black drug dealer named Jojo or Hojo? - Or Tiny? - I've heard enough.
Ballard and Gharty are working this case.
And being that this is a DC jurisdiction, Landrewsky, you're working it, too.
- What does that mean? - I mean that you're all working together.
One happy little law enforcement trio, all for one and one for all.
Work together? How are we supposed to do that? You'll just have to figure it out.
And not in my office.
- So what now? - We could take the kid to Washington.
- And do what? - Drive him around, trigger his memory.
There's a finite number of drug corners, even in DC.
Do you think that'll get us anywhere? - Do you have a better idea? - No.
- Well, come on, we can take my car.
- Yeah, come on, we can take his car.
Hi.
What are you doing here? Did you get a break on the case? - We need to talk to you, Adam.
- Sure.
- What do you want? - We talked to your mother.
We know what it was like with your brother.
She said she tried to treat you the same but it didn't work.
- You were different.
- We're not different.
- Oh, yeah, you are.
For one he's older.
- Stronger, smarter.
People liked him better than they like you.
And the girls liked him a lot better.
There were always girls around.
- Girls aren't important to me.
- Did he ever tease you about that? - That would be natural.
- He didn't tease me.
Or maybe it was worse than that.
Maybe he felt sorry for you.
- No.
- Was that it? He felt sorry for the little brother, the weak one, the unpopular one, the runt? Or did he despise you, huh? I know a little something about that.
See, I'm an older brother.
I know what it's like to hate somebody cos they never gonna be like me.
Except I am as good as David.
I'm just as good as he is.
He had a life.
He had a relationship with a real woman.
He was more man than you are ever gonna be.
That's not true.
I know that's not true.
You want to lie to yourself, to me, to her.
Hmm? Come here.
Look at your brother, hmm? Look at him.
He knows what happened.
And he is never gonna forgive you for killing him.
He'll never forgive you.
- Anything look familiar, Dean? - No, these streets are so confusing.
- We got plenty more to cover.
- Wait, right over there.
- Do you recognise it? - No, never mind.
So, this is a drug-confiscated vehicle, huh? Yup.
The department has plenty of these cars.
I was thinking of buying a new car, or maybe a motorcycle.
Maybe I should get me one of these Mustangs.
I could use some shades, though.
- You want to drive? - Can I? - Sure.
I'll pull over.
- Stuart! What? 'Just take for a test drive, see how it fits.
' - I thought of something.
- What? The street we were on was near one of these monuments.
- What kind of a monument? - Sort of an old dude on a horse.
An old dude on a horse? You wanted to see me.
You went to see Gaffney before you come to me? It was chain of command.
Gaffney and Barnfather had to approve the assignment.
When was I gonna find out? See you at a desk working murder cases? - Come on.
Don't.
- Was I even gonna be consulted? Do you have a problem with my working in CIB? Hey, what if I did? If you don't want to work with me, of course I'll respect that.
Is that what you're saying? You don't want me? - No, that's not what I'm saying.
- Well, then what? All I'm saying is that I would have liked to have been consulted.
Oh, now you want to be asked.
All my life I had to make my own decisions.
I never consulted with you before.
If you're gonna work Homicide, you'd better learn to start.
- Hey, Bayliss.
- Hey, Rene.
Thanks for the book.
Oh, you're welcome.
So how's the case coming? I hear the suspect is the guy's twin brother.
Sibling rivalry gone twisted.
Could you murder your own brother? Hmm, I got a cousin who's like a brother to me, but I couldn't murder him.
I don't have any brothers.
I have an older sister.
Growing up, I hated her guts.
Still I don't think I could kill her.
Maybe wound her a little bit.
- Hey, Rene? - Yeah.
Glad you like the book.
Hey.
Hey.
- Sheppard, we gotta roll.
- What's up? Adam Ralston's holed up in his house with a gun.
Hey, Jasper, is all this hoopla necessary? Depends.
The guy kills himself, it's his business.
As long as he doesn't take anyone with him.
I know this guy.
I figure if I talk to him, maybe I can get the gun off him.
- I'm going in with you.
- You ain't.
- Would you say that if I were a man? - I seen enough people shot this year.
- Yeah, well, I'm going in anyway.
Look - Rene! I'm your partner, Meldrick.
I'm backing you up.
Let's go.
Hey, Adam? Remember me? Detective Lewis and Detective Sheppard.
- Go away.
- I can't do that, Adam.
Adam? I'm coming in, OK? I'm unarmed.
We just want to talk to you.
Don't come in here.
Don't.
Don't come in here.
What are you planning to do? What do you think? Blow my head off.
What happened last night with your brother? I didn't murder him.
He had a gun.
Why did your brother have a gun? Something happened, right? Some kind of argument? The guns came out and you didn't mean for this to happen.
He was pretty angry.
- What was he angry about? - Me.
He was angry at me.
What for? Did he have any reason to be angry with you? No.
And why should he, huh? - He's your big brother.
- Yeah.
He was the one that got all of the attention.
The one that got the girlfriends.
I could have got girls if I wanted.
Sure you could have had a girlfriend You could have had a girl.
You could have had maybe one like Susan.
Yeah, maybe.
Would you know what to do with a woman like Susan, Adam? - Yes, I would.
- Have you ever been with a woman? Have you ever had sex? I've had sex.
I had sex with Susan.
She didn't know it was me.
Two weeks ago in my brother's own bed I had sex with her.
- She didn't have a clue it was me.
- Last night you told David? Susan was coming back here.
I had to go to Mom's house.
You were angry they put you out of the house? So you came back and, to punish David, you told him about you and Susan.
He said she must have known.
She didn't know.
She thought I was David.
- What did David do, Adam? - Got his gun.
Said he was going to kill me, kill her.
I told him it was just a joke, like when we were kids, but he was so angry.
So I got my gun and I I pointed it at him.
And then what happened? I told him I was just as good as he was.
I told him Susan was moaning his name when I was in bed with her.
He leapt at me.
I pulled the I loved my brother.
It was an accident.
It was It was just an accident.
This car is me.
This is the car I should be driving.
Er, this or a Fiat.
- I guess we're back to square one.
- The kid recognised the neighbourhood.
- Yeah, well, what now? - I'll run names through the computer.
Have the kid look at some books.
We'll close this thing yet.
We have to.
I'll never hear the end of it if we don't close this case.
We'll keep working until we do.
I'll call you at the end of the week.
By the way, can I have my shades? Oh, yeah.
Thanks.
- See you, Ballard.
- Bye.
What? I don't know.
Something about Landrewsky makes me want to date outside my own backyard.
I think you should do whatever makes you happy.
I left Flora this morning.
Stu, what? Yeah.
Ever since I got shot I've been trying to pretend that everything's the same.
It isn't the same.
I almost died.
You know? I don't know how much time I got left on this earth.
But I'm not gonna spend it in a marriage that went stale on routine half a lifetime ago.
How did Flora react? She seemed relieved.
I don't know what to say.
You want to talk about it? I don't know.
- Not now.
Maybe later.
- OK.
I gotta go home and pack.
I'll see you tomorrow, Laura.
It's official, isn't it? - The FBI approved the transfer.
- Yeah, I got the call this afternoon.
I am now officially assigned as an agent liaison to the Baltimore PD CIB.
- All right.
Welcome.
- Thank you.
So how did your dad react? Same way he reacts to everything he's unsure of, like a sphinx.
Yeah, well, you can be a little sphinx yourself.
I know.
My cousin Mario, he was more like a father to me than my own father.
I never needed Dad.
It never occurred to me that maybe my father needed a son.
Of course he never told me.
Hey, you know, every day I try to be a better father to my son than my old man was to me.
But I gotta tell you, most of the time I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing.
Yeah, but your son knows you love him.
Oh, see, no, that, that is the one thing I'm sure of.
I mean, you know that about your father, right? I guess that's why I'm here.
After all these years we still matter in each other's lives.
I just wish we could find a way to say that without hurting each other.
How the hell could Susan Dehen not know she was sleeping with the brother? You said they look exactly alike.
Yeah, but in bed there's a lot more going on than the visuals.
Sound.
- Taste.
- Smell.
- Touch.
- Cable.
- Besides, I think she knew.
- What, and she didn't say anything? Say what? She was probably embarrassed she got fooled.
Maybe she figured spilling the beans would kill the thrill.
Either way, she's not talking now.
I got a date with Billie Lou.
Close up for me? You got it, Munchkin.
- I think David's death was an accident.
- Not me.
I believe Adam wanted to kill his brother.
- How can you tell? - I felt the same way about my brother.
He's been 20 years at Sheppard Pratt.
Schizophrenia, bipolar doctors aren't really sure.
I'm sorry.
About a year before we had him committed, he tried to kill himself.
Jumped out of a window.
Funny thing is, I just stood there and just let him fall.
- You didn't kill your brother.
- I didn't do nothing to stop him.
- That's not the same thing.
- Sometimes it feels like it is.
But you know, that's just one of the depressing thoughts that I have, coursing through my brain as I sit there in my dark, depressing room, reading Bukowski and drinking cheap wine.
Hey, Rene, how are you doing? Sorry, am I interrupting something? - Actually - No, nothing at all.
Have a seat.
OK.
Ah.
I guess the next round's on me.
Great.
Where's Munch? He's got a date.
- This is your office.
- All right.
Naomi will set you up with supplies.
Fill you in on paperwork, that sort of thing.
Oh, you don't have to worry about that.
I'll find my way around.
- I'm not worried.
- OK.
- Is there anything else you need? - Yeah.
Is it all right if I drink Homicide's coffee? Hey, Mike.
I heard that you're joining us.
It's very good to have you.
- Thanks.
- And Oh, if you're going for coffee, don't drink the sludge.
- Go across the street to the Daily Grind.
- Right.
Homicide.
- Right.
Homicide.
