The Voice US (2011) s07e03 Episode Script
The Blind Auditions, Part 3
1 Adam: I think that we, as coaches, tend to underestimate how big being on "the voice" is for everybody and how important it is.
Adam: You sang with all of this joy and all of this passion.
It was blissful.
That's what ignites us.
Pharrell: As a coach, this is what you dream for The total package.
And you are the total package.
Gwen: You could tell you're an artist.
And being on this show is a sign for me to be inspired by people like you.
Blake: There's no doubt in my mind that having Gwen and pharrell here at "the voice" This is gonna be the toughest season yet.
It's gonna be the best one to watch.
Daly: Last week, the world's greatest singing competition returned.
Stay with me Yeah! That's how strong my love is Daly: It didn't take long for the artists to bring our superstar coaches to their feet, as powerful performances aah! Had them climbing to new heights We did it! We won "the voice"! To get some of the best voices they've ever heard.
This would look so good on you.
Gwen's never even won one of these things.
[ Laughter .]
I know what to do with that voice.
All right, that's it.
Daly: Here's where the teams stand after the first week of blind auditions.
Ahh! Pharrell was on a roll, adding five to his team.
Pharrell: I can't believe I've been given the opportunity to work with all these artists.
And I can't wait to see what I end up with.
Yes! Daly: Blake scored four powerful singers.
Blake: I'm leaning pretty heavy in country at this point.
So I'm looking for somebody that doesn't, on paper, look like they fit in on team Blake.
Ahh! Daly: Gwen picked up four unique vocalists.
Gwen: I'm really looking to build a diverse team, 'cause, otherwise, I'm gonna have to put two people in the same Lane up against each other, and one of them is gonna get [ Clicks tongue .]
Yes! Daly: And Adam has the least, landing only three artists.
Adam: I don't pick anyone at this point who doesn't convey something.
If it means something, I'm there.
Daly: Tonight, the search for the greatest voice in America continues.
Uncondition-a-a-a-a-ally Daly: But with the teams filling up, the artists will have to give it all they've got.
Jessie: I'd be honored if anyone turned around, because I get to learn from the best of the best.
It's gonna change my life.
Blessing: I'm blind and I want people to know that we can all inspire each other.
You and I I loved your voice.
You're gonna kill everything.
I know what to do with that.
We know you.
This is the first time in the history of "the voice" I've ever said this.
Daly: The blind auditions continue Oh! This is gonna be so good.
Daly: Right now.
You can't be that nice.
I am being nice.
I guess I'm used to Adam.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Daly: It's night 3 of the blind auditions at universal studios Hollywood.
While our coaches get ready, they take a moment to catch up.
How are you enjoying the show so far? I'm feeling good.
It's so fun.
I get to sit next to that guy, who I am a huge fan of.
This doesn't even feel like we're working.
I was really hoping that they'd kind of have a little bit of, like, lag time so we could steal some people from them, but that's not happening at all.
All right, you guys ready to get back out there? Daly: As our coaches head to their chairs Let's meet our first artist of the night.
My name's John Martin.
I'm 25 years old.
I'm from Chicago, Illinois.
[ Beeping .]
I work for a shipping supply company called uline.
I am a forklift operator.
Plus, I pack boxes on the side.
I work 50 hours a week.
When I'm not at work, I'm doing gigs in random bars and house parties on the side.
Even though this is a great job, if I had a choice, I'd be doing music full time for sure.
I got into music playing in church with my dad.
He's a pastor.
I ended up going to college for music.
I majored in digital media with a piano and guitar emphasis.
But I did not graduate.
I ended up moving back home 'cause my dad lost his job.
It was important for me that I was there to support them.
Even though I do enjoy driving the forklift, it's not what I feel called to do.
Just to be able to work with those coaches and get on a team it would be a dream come true.
Aww.
[ Laughs .]
Wow.
[ Whistling .]
Sweet pea apple of my eye I don't know when and I don't know why you're the only reason I keep on coming home ooh I'm like the rock of Gibraltar, always faltering [ Cheers and applause .]
My words always get in the way yeah, I know I'm gonna crumble I'm trying to stay humble but I, I never think before I say yeah, yeah sweet pea keeper of my soul I know sometimes I get out of control you're the only reason I, I keep on coming no! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! You're the only reason I keep on coming oh, you're the only reason I keep on coming home [ Cheers and applause .]
Yeah! Yes! Oh! [ Laughs .]
Well, I don't really know for sure, but I'm thinking this is a good-looking man.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Thank you.
[ Laughs .]
What's your name, man? My name's John Martin.
Woman: Oh! That girl's done for the night.
Did you hear? [ Laughter .]
"My name's John Martin.
" Oh! [ Laughter .]
Dude, let me tell you something.
There is something so cool and so laid-back about what you do.
I am absolutely on board with it, man.
Thank you.
And luckily I got to see it, because I didn't sit back there and have to decide for most of the song I appreciate it.
Thank you Like these others did.
You're a pretty tall dude, right? Yeah, I'm like 6'2 ", 6'3" -ish.
[ Cheers and applause .]
You know what? These other two are too short for you, by the way.
Way too short.
Let me tell you why I delayed in pressing the button.
Because I was listening technically, and that's when you said You're the only reason And I said, "okay.
" You do have a great voice.
Your identity came through.
Thank you so much.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Hi.
Hi.
Do you sing full time? Are you in a band or I actually drive a forklift in a warehouse.
I thought you were gonna say, "I'm a male model," and then [ Laughter .]
That's great.
That makes you, like, way more badass, too.
Good.
I turned because I thought your voice was just delicious.
It had this real creamy, like, beautiful tone.
And you're a full package.
You're super-cute.
You got your own unique style, and I love that.
That's what I'm looking for.
I want real people, real artists, you know? [ Cheers and applause .]
Thank you.
I noticed three words that she said Not in succession and not referring to anything specifically.
But I believe "delicious" Oh, no.
Stop it"Creamy," and "package.
" All those things she said.
[ Laughter .]
I-I'm saying my parents are watching this.
Listen Sorry, mom and dad.
[ Laughter .]
Who turned first? Was it Blake turned a long time It was Blake.
Yeah.
And I usually try to do everything in my power to betray him.
[ Laughter .]
But because these guys are so good so fast at this, I'm a little threatened and intimidated by that.
It hurts me to say this, but this has never happened.
This is the first time in the history of "the voice" I've ever said this.
But I think maybe Blake would be great for you.
[ Laughter .]
[ Cheers and applause .]
Yep.
I love you.
I don't like it.
Hey, you're my boo.
[ Laughter .]
Pharrell: I agree.
He did turn around first, which doesn't always mean the most, by the way.
It's just a Yeah, it really does.
[ Laughter .]
No, because some of us were listening for other things.
And you want us to hear those qualities about you, and when we got it, we got it, right? Right.
Hey, let me ask you a question.
What kind of music do you see yourself doing? Just cheesy love music, I guess.
That's what I write! Me too.
[ Laughter .]
Cheesy love pop songs that's me.
That's, like, my whole existence.
So I can if that's, you know, so [ Cheers and applause .]
Wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
[ Audience shouting .]
It's time to pick a coach.
Oh, man.
[ Audience shouting .]
Hey.
Thank you all, you guys.
I'm flattered, seriously.
But I choose [ Audience shouting .]
Blake.
Yes! Whoo, ooh, ooh, whoo this is gonna be the best day of my life I'm happy for you.
I did not expect three chairs at all.
It-it's absolutely mind-blowing.
It's gonna be a lot of fun, man.
Blake: John has such a unique voice.
I'm shocked that Adam actually helped me.
Something bad's got to happen out of this.
He's cute.
He is cute.
Even I'm attracted to him.
[ Laughs .]
I helped Blake.
I felt dirty afterwards.
I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, "who is this guy?" It's a damn shame.
Daly: Coming up I want to give you some love oh! Daly: Incredible artists Uncondition-a-a-ally Daly: Have our coaches fighting harder than ever to work with them.
You fit perfectly into my team.
I know what to do with that.
If you were on team Gwen, it could be so fun.
You know what you're doing, and I know what I'm doing.
Oh, shoot! This is gonna be so good.
[ Laughter .]
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet our next artist, whose music is steeped in tradition.
Michael: My name is Michael Stein.
I am 62 years old.
And I've been a cantor since 1990.
[ Singing in Hebrew .]
A cantor is a minister of music in the Jewish faith which lead the prayers for all of the worship services.
The music really touches me very deeply.
Whoa, whoa, yeah [ All cheering .]
You work with a lot of kids here, too? I work with the kids.
From a very early age, they learn the prayers and they learn the meaning of the prayers through music.
You write your own stuff? I write a lot of my own music.
I've written a country service with Hebrew lyrics.
[ Singing in Hebrew .]
I have a jazz service.
Daly: Wow.
I have a rock-'n'-roll service.
This is your gig, if you will.
Yes.
My three sons love to play music with me, and my wife sings.
And together, we have a group called the rolling steins.
[ Laughing .]
The rolling steins.
The rolling steins, yes.
Michael, you've had a lot of musical experience in your life, but I want to specifically ask you about your time playing fiddle for the United States Navy band.
That is an amazing job.
In 1976, the United States Navy band needed a fiddle player for the white house support unit called country current.
And I played with country current for 17 years and I played for four different presidents Jimmy Carter, father bush, Reagan, and Bill Clinton.
Spinning, spinning then we fall down What a great life you've had, filled with music on so many different fronts.
At age 62, what motivates you to take your talent to "the voice" stage? To maybe have a recording contract is very exciting to me.
I can influence people in a way that I didn't feel that I could when I was younger.
[ Exhales deeply .]
I feel that, musically, I have some unfinished business.
I would love my gift to reach the masses.
And I want the coaches to turn around and go, "what?! What is this?" Whoo! Yeah, baby! [ Fiddle playing .]
Whoo! The devil went down to Georgia he was lookin' for a soul to steal he was in a bind 'cause he was way behind and he was willing to make a deal when he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot then the devil jumped up on a hickory stump and said, "boy, let me tell you what "maybe you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player, too "and if you'd care to take a dare well, I'll make a bet with you" now, the boy said, "my name's Johnny, it might be a sin "but I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret I'm the best that's ever been" Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard Yeah! Yeah.
Come on, Gwen.
If you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold if you lose, the devil gets your soul [ Cheers and applause .]
Fire on the Mountain, run, boy, run the devil's in the house of the rising sun please, please.
They're not turning.
They're not.
Chicken in the bread pan pickin' out dough granny, will your dog bite? No, child, no [ Yodeling .]
Hey, hey, hey, hey-hey! [ Cheers and applause .]
Good job, pops.
What's your name? My name is Michael Stein.
I could tell whoever was up there was having the time of their life.
As much as I love that song, I guess I would have just liked to seen you do a song that could demonstrate a little bit more range.
Gotcha.
Pharrell: You have a great voice, and I think you're a great fiddle player.
But he's right.
The song limits the ability for you to show the world who you are as a person.
Gwen: I thought a lot of your personality did come through.
It was a little bit more chanty than singing, but I enjoyed it a lot.
It brought back memories, that song.
I wasn't sure if they had brought someone in to play.
So when I turned around, I was even more bummed, 'cause I was like, "oh, man, he plays so well.
" I wish I could have seen that, as well, 'cause it's a huge part of your performance.
But we really enjoy what you did.
So thank you very much.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Michael: I'm 62 years old.
I stood on "the voice" stage.
And after all the things that I've done, being on "the voice" is a nice accomplishment.
Group hug.
Daly: Coming up, a young artist goes from the streets to "the voice" stage.
I need to know now know now Daly: And later, the bromance has some competition.
Your voice sounded a lot like pharrell's voice.
I think that's why I loved it so much, 'cause I love you so much.
I love you, too, boo.
I think I'm gonna throw up.
[ Laughter .]
Daly: Welcome back.
While our artists eagerly wait for their blind auditions, let's meet 19-year-old Ricky Manning, who has never had a problem performing in front of people.
I come from a large family.
I have six siblings, and all of them play guitar, sing, or write songs.
We'll play together and jam.
I got into music in third grade.
I would sing Jackson 5 or Stevie wonder.
Of course, the girls liked it.
I was a ladies' man in third grade.
I really was.
Moved on to middle school and I did musical theater.
My parents got divorced when I was around 2.
My dad moved out of the house, and then my mom took us to Florida.
And that was that.
I did not go to college.
I told myself, "let's try music for a year.
" After high school, I moved to New Jersey.
And I'm living with my dad for free.
As long as I'm out there doing something with music, I don't have to pay rent.
I commute from New Jersey to New York three to four times a week to play on the streets or at the subway.
I thought I was gonna get a crowd, get money, and then somebody in that crowd would maybe work at a record label and want to sign me.
Thank you.
I'll never be king But you're background music, basically, until the train comes.
And then they're gone, and no one's listening to you again.
I can't just be out there busking for, like, the rest of my life.
That's not a career.
I've always been very supportive of Ricky following his gift.
But the year's coming up, so the clock is ticking.
I'll be shocked if he doesn't get a chair.
If this doesn't work out, I need to get serious about what I'm going to do for the rest of my life.
If there was a word stronger than "nervous," what I'm feeling would be probably 10 times that word, just because the coaches have so much to teach, and I just want to be one of the people who soaks it up.
Ricky! Come on, Ricky! Both: Whoo! Let's go, Ricky! Let's do it! Know I've done wrong left your heart torn is that what devils do? Oh, oh Whoa.
took you so long where only fools gone I shook the angel in you now I'm rising from the crowd rising up to you I need to know now know now can you love me again? I need to know now know now can you love me again? I told you once again oh, do this again oh, do this again no, no no-o-o-o I need to know now know now can you love me? Hey, hey! I need to know know now can you love me again? I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! Can you love me again? [ Cheers and applause .]
Nice.
Oh, my good lord.
You look like a young joaquin Phoenix.
[ Laughs .]
Hey, I'll take it.
Tell me about yourself.
My name is Ricky Manning.
I am from cape coral, Florida.
[ Cheers and applause .]
I got to tell you what made me hit the button is your runs were consistent every time.
Thank you so much.
Blake: My favorite thing about your voice is how invested you are in what you're singing.
You've got something Thank you.
In here that you want everybody to hear.
And music is your way of doing that.
Thank you so much.
[ Cheers and applause .]
A lot of practice, a lot of hard work.
The reason I didn't press was I felt like there was this diamond in the rough, like, a kid that needs to do it a little bit more.
I think you're a really cool guy.
I think that you deserve to be on the show.
And I'm excited for you.
Thank you.
I heard a guy who knew that it was his moment, and you got lost in that moment until it was time to finish singing.
And, to me, you're gonna kill everything, man.
I know what to do with that.
[ Cheers and applause .]
All right.
And you know what? So does Blake.
So you can't go wrong with either one of us.
You're doing it again.
You're poisoning me or something right now.
Yeah, it's like you're you're good.
You can't be that nice all the time.
I am being nice.
I guess I'm used to Adam.
I want I want you to be on my team, but I'm just trying to tell you, like, the cool part about this show is that you definitely got a place on one of our teams.
Yes, sir.
Ricky: Wow.
Wow.
Who's it gonna be? [ Audience shouting .]
Okay.
The coach I'm gonna pick Is pharrell.
[ Cheers and applause .]
she's up all night to the sun she's up all night to get some Yeah! she's up all night for good fun Dude, this is crazy.
Thank you so much, man.
You killed it.
Appreciate it.
I can't wait to work with you.
Oh, my God! Oh, you're kidding me.
We're up all night to get lucky He was good.
He was so stoked.
we're up all night to get lucky His runs were so crazy.
we're up all night to get lucky Yo.
we're up all night to get lucky Adam: Ricky was a little all over the place, but I really wish I had turned, because I love to see someone we're up all night to get lucky Rise to the occasion and change and grow and evolve.
we're up all night to get lucky And being a part of that is really cool.
we're up all night to get lucky Pharrell is awesome.
I can't wait to see what they do together.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Whoo! Yeah! Yeah! Ricky: I've been watching this every season, and now I was on it and I got chairs turned around.
I'm out of words.
Look at us.
Tell me everything Daly: Coming up, a moving performance brings out Adam's charm.
is gonna be all right Look at that smile.
I love you.
Stop flirting with her.
Daly: And later, an artist who's overcome a lot I was born blind in this eye and I lost the vision in this eye when I was around 11.
Just the two of us Daly: Gives it all he's got.
You and I-I-I-I-I Daly: Welcome back.
Blake.
Yes! Daly: So far tonight, Blake, Gwen, and pharrell have each landed one artist for their teams, while Adam has been reluctant to push his button.
Adam: I'm holding out for something special.
Sometimes, you got to wait a little bit, and I need to be in love with something and fight for it.
Unfortunately for these next artists, he wasn't moved to turn his chair.
You got to be you got to be bad you got to be bold, you got to be wiser I used to get petrified and I freed myself up to think, "I'm just gonna have a good time.
" Things go wrong, but you get back up again, because the next time, you're gonna come here and make the alterations.
Thank you.
I can dream about you 'cause you know how to hold me just right I love you.
I do.
But I think there was some control issues, in general, but you are absolutely someone who can come back and blow us all away.
Thank you.
Oh, heads, Carolina, tails, California somewhere greener I will just tell you that you're a lot further along than I was at that age.
You don't want to hear what I sounded like at age 17.
It was disastrous.
So, you're here.
There's millions of people watching you.
You have a lot to be proud of.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Daly: Let's see if our next artist has what Adam is looking for 31-year-old Kelli Douglas from Dallas, Texas, who changed her whole life to pursue music.
Kelli: I am a single mom.
My son's name is Alexander.
He's 6 and he's a lot of fun.
He's not shy at all.
Go, Alex.
Go, Alex.
Go, go, go, go.
He's totally opposite of me.
I kind of had a quiet obsession with music.
I had a problem with stage fright, so I kind of am a late bloomer in performing.
I knew that I had this gift of music, but, for some reason, I was just scared of it.
So, I went to the university of Houston and I majored in corporate communications.
Soon after I graduated, I started teaching middle school.
I used music in the classroom a lot.
Some of my students with learning disabilities would have memory issues.
And so, as a teacher, you have to find a way to make the students learn.
I taught school for a total of six years, but I wanted to pursue music.
And it was a big decision to resign.
I cried when I left.
But I just didn't feel fulfilled.
My parents allowed me to move in with them and help out with my son.
[ Laughs .]
I know this is what I'm supposed to do.
[ Laughs .]
One of the main reasons I'm here is because I want my son to know that he can go for whatever it is he wants to go for.
Okay, Kelli, this is it.
Alexander: I like my mommy because she's a good singer and she has a great voice.
I love her more than anything.
Kelli: Stepping onto a stage with four megastars is definitely a scary thing, but I think a coach could help me a lot with my stage presence.
This is make or break for me, and I'm just gonna have to do it.
[ Cheers and applause .]
People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one and we've just begun I think I'm gonna have a son yeah, yeah and even though we ain't got money I'm so in love with ya, honey everything will bring a chain of love [ All cheering .]
And in the morning when I rise bring a tear of joy to my eyes and tell me everything is gonna be all right love the guy who holds the world in a paper cup oh, drink it up love him and he'll bring you luck whoa, oh even though we ain't got money I'm so in love with ya, honey everything will bring a chain of love yeah in the morning when I rise bring a tear of joy to my eyes and tell me everything I'll go.
Is gonna be all right [ Laughs .]
Oh, my God! [ Cheers and applause .]
[ All cheering .]
Yeah! You are so cute.
Look how cute she is.
What is your name? I'm Kelli Douglas.
Kelli Douglas, where are you from? I'm from Dallas, Texas.
Blake: Ho-ho! [ Cheers and applause .]
I didn't think I was gonna get through that.
[ Vocalizing "Dallas" theme .]
[ Laughter .]
Sorry.
Okay.
Blake's excited 'cause you live kind of near him, kind of.
[ Laughter .]
Oh, man.
What happened there was there was a guy [ Laughter .]
That pushed his button like six years before everyone else did.
You were ner-vous.
Oh, my gosh.
And here's what is awesome.
Even through how petrified you were up there And we'll work on that together, Kelli Douglas [ Laughter .]
Wait a minute.
Beautiful, talented, charming Kelli Douglas.
The hell you will.
She hasn't picked anybody yet.
That smile.
Look at that smile.
Look at that smile.
I love you.
Stop flirting with her.
Why don't you keep your trap shut over there, Shelton? I think there's some things that we got to work on.
And I'm excited hopefully excited to do that.
Thank you.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Gwen: First of all, I love your voice.
I love the raspiness.
I love how it breaks.
You don't look at all like that song.
That makes you so interesting, you know? Thank you.
But picking the right moments to do different things Those kind of technical things are things that I think I could help you with.
I don't have anyone like you.
And I would love for you to be on my team.
Thank you, Gwen.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Your voice is amazing and you're gonna lighten up either one of these three teams because your voice is so soulful.
It's so creamy.
[ Laughter .]
And and and you Hey, you didn't even hit your button.
What are you doing? I'm just giving her Save something for me to say.
And you're just beautiful.
There you go.
Thank you, pharrell.
Your voice is mysterious, to me, and it's haunting, but you still have some Texas things about the way you sing, too, those those little quick breaks in your voice.
They make you realize, "this girl knows what she's doing.
" We have that in common, Blake.
Thank you for bringing that up.
Kelli Douglas, you know what you're doing, and I know what I'm doing.
This is gonna be great.
Well, miss Douglas, it's time for you to pick a coach.
[ Audience shouting .]
I don't even know what to do.
Oh, my gosh.
This is the craziest decision I've ever had to make.
Um Okay.
I'm gonna go with [ Audience shouting .]
This is gonna be so good.
[ Laughter .]
I'm gonna go with my heart.
I'm gonna go with Adam.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Come here.
Adam: Kelli Douglas Fantastic, beautiful.
She's talented.
Thank you.
I can't even believe this.
Thank you.
She gets really nervous.
We're gonna get that out of there.
I want to give her that confidence and that sense of strength.
You're beautiful.
Hey, Gwen.
Thank you.
You too.
Congratulations.
I really wanted Kelli.
She was so beautiful and cool.
But I was happy for Adam.
Adam needed a really good one, and he got one with her.
Yeah.
I'm on the board! Yes.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Team Adam.
Team Adam.
Congratulations.
So awesome.
I picked Adam because he seemed real genuine with his comments, and he turned around first, even through all of my nerves and everything.
Welcome to the family.
All right.
Thank you.
[ Laughs .]
Daly: Still to come You were out of my league Whoa! Daly: Powerful performances Uncondition-a-a-a-ally Daly: That have our coaches in awe.
The electricity in this room was palpable.
I could feel that.
You sang like this was your one-and-only moment.
Your tone was so gorgeous.
I loved it.
I am a fan.
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
I feel really excited about my team right now, you guys.
You should.
You have a great team.
Each person has something that I feel I can connect with.
Yeah, I'm very thankful that the people that I have on the team chose me.
And I'm gonna try to service them the best way I can.
Daly: As our coaches reflect on their teams, let's see if this next artist can earn one of the few remaining spots.
Blessing: My name is blessing offor.
I'm 25 years old.
I was born in owerri, Nigeria, but I currently live in New York.
I'm blind, but getting around New York, I think, is much easier than most people think.
I memorized the entire subway system.
So, that was a fun thing to do.
When I first moved here, I played at every bar you could imagine.
I've gotten some really wonderful opportunities.
I've played at the Kennedy center seven or eight times and I received an international soloists award.
Music has been the north star.
It's been the thing I've wanted to do no matter what's been going on in my life.
When I was born, I was blind in my left eye and I was diagnosed with congenital glaucoma in my right eye.
My parents made a point to treat me as normally as possible.
They always just let me be a child, which was really great.
I moved to the states to live with my Uncle and get the glaucoma treated, and it was getting better.
But then I had an accident.
When I was about 9, I was shot in the eye with a water gun.
The stream of water detached the retina.
Eventually, the eye itself just kind of gave up.
I was left with no vision and I had to figure out what God meant by this.
But, you know, on the other hand, it made me do all this with music.
All right, so, what do you want out of this opportunity, blessing? Dude, I want to be able to play music for the rest of my life and write songs.
You're writing right now? I write literally every day.
I hung around Nashville for a few years to study songwriting.
My growth as a songwriter is because of the time I spent in that city.
I want people to know that everybody's an inspiration, and we can all inspire each other.
Well said.
Yeah, man.
Okay.
Thanks, guys.
Good luck.
Thanks.
You're gonna be a star.
Thanks, "b.
" Blessing: I love the idea that the coaches have to like my voice before they turn around.
I love soul music, but as funny as it sounds, I'd really love for Blake to turn around.
I really want to make sure I get in with someone who understands good songwriting and can help me pick some songs that aren't normally thought of as r&B songs and let me put my own twist on them.
I've had a few things in life to work through, and I think this is just another thing to work through.
He's the best, man.
I love this guy.
Come on, blessing.
I see the crystal raindrops fall and the beauty of it all when the sun comes shining through to make those rainbows in my mind when I think of you sometimes I want to spend some time with you just the two of us we can make it if we try just the two of us just the two of us just the two of us building castles in the sky just the two of us you and I Come on, blessing! We look for love, no time for tears wasted water's all that is and it don't make no flowers grow [ Cheers and applause .]
And good things might come to those who wait but not for those who wait too late we gotta go for all we know Turn that chair.
Come on! Whoo! just the two of us we can make it if we try just the two of us just the two of us just the two of us [ Cheers and applause .]
You and I-I-I-I-I yeah Oh, my God! Come on! Look! They all turned! [ Cheers and applause .]
[ Laughs .]
[ Cheers and applause continue .]
What's your name, bro? Blessing: Blessing offor.
I can't see you in case that wasn't obvious.
I got some good news for you, man we all turned around.
Oh, shoot! [ Cheers and applause .]
So, blessing, tell us your story.
Well, let me see.
I was born blind in this eye and I lost the vision in this eye when I was around 11.
Then music came along.
Then I decided I'm gonna be a songwriter.
Blake, I went to belmont university in Nashville, bro.
Do you still live in Nashville? I actually live in Brooklyn right now, but I go back just to write and do the thing, you know? Yeah.
Gwen: When you first came in, I thought your voice sounded so beautiful.
It sounded a lot like pharrell's voice.
It had the same kind of, like, beautiful tone to it.
Okay, so, Gwen is being super-kind.
No.
I mean, it really reminded me.
I think that's why I loved it so much, 'cause I love you so much.
Aww! I love you, too, boo.
[ Laughter .]
I think I'm gonna throw up.
[ Laughter .]
You have so much personality and you are very confident up there, so I wouldn't have to really mess with that too much.
Your tone was so gorgeous.
And I could share my experiences with you and coach you.
The electricity in this room was palpable.
I could feel that.
You guys are really loud.
They love you.
[ Cheers and applause .]
[ Chuckles .]
You were, like, maybe a half step off, but the way you recovered from that gave me the utmost confidence in your ability.
And the only thing that I really care about at this point on this show is getting involved with people who are passionate about music.
And I felt like I would have been missing out on something extraordinary.
And that is precisely what you are, man.
Man, thank you so much.
Like, straight up.
That's super-kind.
I'm very, very happy.
[ Cheers and applause .]
You talked to Blake about Nashville.
And that's where some of the best writers are born and migrate to.
Yeah.
However, I've not heard anyone sing a song that's written with country intentions but sung with a voice like yours.
You know, that's undiscovered real estate in that world.
And, for me, I know a couple things about mixing genres.
Okay.
Blake, tell me anything.
[ Laughter .]
Am I gonna lose this one right now? Probably not, because you won't let me talk.
[ Laughter .]
Okay.
The thing that maybe I'm plugged into that you would be interested in is that Nashville songwriting community that you feel a connection with.
Blessing: Yeah.
I'm gonna lose.
[ Laughter .]
Let's let's connect it.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Let's connect it.
Okay, so, who do you pick as your coach? Um [ Chuckles .]
[ Audience shouting .]
Um I will pick Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Just the two of us Daly: Before the break, blessing offor gave an unforgettable performance You and I-I-I-I-I Daly: Getting all four coaches to push their buttons.
Yeah Daly: Now he has the difficult decision of picking his coach.
Blessing: [ Chuckles .]
[ Audience shouting .]
Um I will pick Pharrell.
Oh! You got it.
There goes the fire Thanks, guys.
Blake: Blessing got four chairs to turn, and, selfishly, I wish he would have gone with me, but pharrell was probably the perfect match for him.
Right here in front of you.
Thank you, man.
Appreciate it.
Your voice is crazy.
Man, your voice is crazy.
Nah.
You're out of here.
Blessing his voice was super-soulful.
His musical tastes are much different than one would expect.
I think that'll be really interesting to be able to mix the two worlds together.
Hey, man.
Mr.
levine.
Yes, sir.
Bro.
I'm pretty freaking excited.
[ Laughs .]
I picked pharrell because his track record, at this point, is undeniable.
So we can work well together.
Wow.
I'm really looking forward to learning from him especially.
How lucky are we, dude? It is mental right now.
It's crazy.
We're having a freak-out moment How lucky we are to be on this show.
It's so fun.
It's amazing.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Woman: Awesome! [ Laughs .]
Dreams do come true, guys.
[ Laughs .]
Daly: While blessing celebrates Let's meet our next artist, who hopes to stand out among the competition.
Troy: My name's Troy ritchie.
I'm 21 years old.
I'm from trabuco canyon, California.
And I truly love to entertain people.
[ Cheers and applause .]
I can do a couple impersonations.
[ As stewie Griffin .]
Uh, my name's stewie Griffin.
And, um, I'm very happy to be here today.
[ As Cleveland brown .]
Oh, that's just nasty, Peter.
[ As Christopher walken .]
I'm so happy to be at "the voice.
" Ow! [ Normal voice .]
Oh, I can't do that right now.
Never mind.
So cool.
When I was in sixth grade, my mom and dad bought me a guitar.
I was obsessed with it.
Just honed my skills.
You wouldn't think of me as, like, a metal person, but since I was really into guitar, I noticed that there was some shredders out there.
I wanted to be able to just, like, melt people's faces off.
I grew my hair out.
I was headbanging to, like, metallica in my bathroom.
Right now, I'm living at home.
I bus at a restaurant and also play there on Saturday nights.
And, also, I'm a childcare leader for this after-school program.
I'm here at "the voice" so I can live my dream of becoming the entertainer I'm trying to be.
I'm so proud of you.
My first choice for coach would be pharrell, 'cause we would vibe pretty well, musically, as far as I can tell.
I've never had a vocal lesson in my life, so to be able to work with one of the coaches would be a mind-blowing experience.
I've been working so hard at it.
I've been playing and singing every day.
And it would just mean the world to me.
It'd be amazing.
[ Cheers and applause .]
More than just a dream whoo, ooh-ooh-ooh Whoo! Forty days and forty nights I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life recall the days I waited for you you know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you you were out of my league all the things I believe you were just the right kind yeah, you are more than just a dream [ All cheering .]
you were out of my league got my heartbeat racing if I die, don't wake me 'cause you are more than just a drea-a-a-a-m ohhhh, oh-ho, whoa ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh you were out of my league all the things I believe you were just the right kind yeah, you are more than just a dream yeah, yeah, yeah you're more than just a dream ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh [ Cheers and applause .]
[ All cheering .]
Oh, my God.
I'm not sure I would say I thought I knew what you were gonna look like.
But I can definitely say I knew it wasn't like this.
[ Laughter .]
Did you follow that? [ Laughing .]
Yeah.
My name's Adam.
What's your name? My name is Troy ritchie, and I'm from trabuco canyon, California.
What's up? [ Cheers and applause .]
Congratulations.
Thank you very much.
Gwen Stefani likes you.
[ Laughs .]
That's got to be exciting for a dude from California, 'cause we all know she's the queen of anaheim and the world.
[ Laughing .]
Oh, my God.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Aww.
You're awesome.
That was great.
That was really interesting, too.
I had no clue what was gonna happen when we turned around.
I was like, "what is going on?" I didn't, either.
I had no idea.
I just knew that I don't have a lot of guys yet on my team and I really liked your voice.
I thought it was so seamless, the way you could go from your chest, your head voice so easily.
And it was so strong when you went up to the top.
Yeah.
And I just was like, "you know what? I'm gonna press my button.
" Well, thank you so much.
I appreciate it.
We're stuck together.
That's it.
[ Laughing .]
You don't get a choice.
But it's good.
I have a lot of experience and I have been surrounded by boys my whole life.
I just want to make a comment about that, by the way.
You have three boys.
Yep.
You're married to a singer.
You're in no doubt, surrounded by dudes.
And now you're on "the voice" with three total dorks.
It's absolutely crazy.
There's so many dudes all around all the time.
I'm so sorry about that.
I had to hire four harajuku girls to hang out with me.
I know.
This is the only time I ever got to hang out with girls.
You know what? I have to applaud you on that.
Thank you.
That's a lot of guys all the time.
Anyways, it's gonna be so much fun.
I'm excited.
Oh, man, you got a strong voice.
The entire time, when I was listening to the song that you picked, I was like, "this is so good for Gwen.
" Congratulations.
Thank you so much, pharrell.
Yes, sir.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Blake: Oh, here it is.
Team Gwen.
It's all the rage these days.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Pharrell.
He's like Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Wow.
You get a shirt.
You get a team Gwen shirt.
Thank you so much, Gwen.
It's gonna be fun.
I'm just really excited.
Congratulations.
It's gonna be great.
He's blushing.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Gwen: Troy deserved me to turn around because he had a really solid performance, and I don't really have anyone like him on my team.
Yeah! I feel like I got two really good people so far.
It's gonna be so fun.
I can't wait to get to that next part, where I actually get to know them.
Thank you.
Adam.
Troy: When Gwen turned around, I was like, "don't stop playing.
Just keep going.
" I can't believe it.
And this is a really cool shirt.
I will wear this.
[ Cheers and applause .]
He had so much control up there.
Yeah.
Adam: He has, like, a big voice.
Yeah.
He was so excited when you gave him a t-shirt.
You know, like, when you see in the movie where the whole world disappears and it's just the one He was like he was like, "Gwen.
" [ Laughter .]
Daly: Coming up Gwen thinks you're cute, bro.
You're super-cute.
Daly: Gwen sets her eyes on another guy.
I forgot what the hell we were supposed to be doing here.
Gwen: I know.
Is this the evening wear or what is this? Daly: Welcome back.
Let's head to southlake, Texas, to meet our next artist, 16-year-old Cole wilkinson.
Cole: I'm the oldest of four boys in the family.
I do like it because I always have people to hang out with.
My family calls this "the funny farm.
" My house has a lot of land.
It's like 5 acres.
We have a lot of animals.
But I think the responsibilities of living on a farm have helped me be more diligent with my music.
In the sixth grade, I decided to join a performing-arts school.
I got to do dancing, acting, singing, and music.
I love the feeling of being onstage.
So excited.
Music is the one thing that I enjoy.
And I just want to keep doing that for the rest of my life.
For my blind audition, I will be singing "classic" by mkto.
I really like the energetic pop stuff.
I just need to remember not to overthink it and give a great performance.
Good luck.
This is what I want to do.
There he is.
There he is, man.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Let's go! Ooh, girl, you're shining like a fifth Avenue diamond and they don't make you like they used to you're never going out of style I wanna thrill you like Michael I wanna kiss you like prince let's get it on like Marvin gaye like hathaway write a song for you like this you're over my head, I'm out of my mind thinking I was born in the wrong time one of a kind living in a world gone plastic baby, you're so classic oh, baby, you baby, you're so classic four dozen roses anything for you to notice all the way to serenade you doing it Sinatra style I wanna thrill you like Michael I wanna kiss you like prince let's get it on like Marvin gaye, like hathaway write a song for you like this Adam's liking it.

[ Cheers and applause .]
Aww! Hi.
Blake: Hey, buddy.
How you doing? What's your name, man? I'm Cole.
Cole wilkinson.
I thought you said, "I'm cool.
" You're that, too, clearly.
How old are you? I'm 16.
Oh, wow.
Gwen: Wow.
Where where are you from? I'm from a town outside of Dallas, Texas, called southlake, and I live on a farm.
And I have three little brothers, mom, and dad, and Aww.
Oh, that's so cute.
And then I have 14 goats [ Laughter .]
Two donkeys, a horse, three dogs, and two cats.
That is some specific information, man.
[ Laughter .]
That's awesome.
Yeah! Thank you.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Wow.
Man, you know I forgot what the hell we were supposed to be doing here.
I know.
Is this the evening wear or what is this? You're definitely an entertainer.
I can tell you that just by what happened with the crowd.
And it sounded like you were being pretty active on the stage.
Oh, yeah.
I wish we would have seen what you were doing.
Can you show us some of your moves? Yeah, what'd you do? The audience freaked out.
[ Cheers and applause .]
I want to thrill you like Michael I want to kiss you like prince let's get it on like Marvin gaye See, we can't he we can't hear that.
Yeah.
[ Laughs .]
That's the only problem, man.
Yep.
Dude, you are 16.
You're gonna come back here.
You're gonna not move as much, maybe.
[ Chuckles .]
'Cause you do have a great voice, you know? Espe when you were hitting those higher notes and you were really using your full voice, it really sounded amazing.
Yeah.
You're totally cute.
You got a good style.
Gwen thinks you're cute, bro.
You're super-cute.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Yes.
Thank you.
So, you know what to do next year, right? Plant your feet on the ground and give them your soul.
Okay.
And you'll be right back.
Awesome.
Thank you.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Cole is a great singer, and I think he has a lot to offer.
Thanks, man.
Sing it.
[ Voice breaking .]
I really wanted to be on a team.
I'm gonna work on it and come back next year.
But he has the whole package.
He's cute.
He can dance.
Yeah, he's got great Great rhythm, too, man.
Seems like a good kid, too.
Yeah.
Daly: Still to come [ Screams .]
Yeah! Daly: Artists that fire up all four coaches.
I need that voice on my team.
I definitely want you.
How much fun could we have? How much fun can we have? We had a little moment right there.
You got to admit it.
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
If I even had this platform, I would have never gotten Oh, my God.
No, I'm I can't I couldn't You know what I'm saying? Imagine.
Like, it's a lot of pressure.
It is a lot of pressure.
It's a whole different thing.
It's scary.
But even if you didn't get picked, if you can make it on nbc in front of millions of people It's unbelievable.
It is true.
You can do anything.
You made it.
You are so positive.
I'm gonna hang out with you for the rest of my life.
Daly: As our coaches head back to their chairs, let's see if this next artist, 19-year-old California native Mia pfirrman, can handle the pressure.
Mia: My mom and dad were musicians growing up.
My parents' band was called September.
I would always make fun of my mom because she just had that big, like, '80s hair.
Along with my dad, they would do these really funky dance moves.
You know, everyone knows about it.
We just had to, like, kind of leave that lifestyle to pay bills and do stuff like buy food [ Both laugh .]
Pay rent, that kind of stuff.
I currently go to a community college.
I'm in a class called pop rock, and we learn different kinds of music.
My teacher books these gigs for us for the weekends, and it's such good experience.
I really hope that all that I've been taught, I can really nail my blind audition.
Since I am still trying to figure out who I am as an artist, I really do think it would be such a good help to have a coach guide me.
I would absolutely love to work with pharrell.
He's a great producer, and it would be an honor.
Love you.
I love you.
I've been waiting for this moment for so long.
Give it all you've got.
Bye.
Bye-bye.
My parents gave up everything that they loved for me and my family.
I think that if I got a chair to turn around, it would almost be like me carrying out their dream.
Oh, my God! Come on, baby.
She looks so pretty.
Oh, no did I get too close? Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside? That was good.
All your insecurities all the dirty laundry Come on! Oh, my God! Never made me blink one time unconditional unconditionally I will love you unconditionally yeah so open up your heart and just let it begin open up your heart and just let it begin open up your heart and just let it begin open up your heart uncondition-a-a-a-ally yeah, I will love you unconditionally yeah, yeah, yeah there is no fear now let go and just be free yeah, I will love you unconditionally yeah [ Cheers and applause .]
Wow.
[ All cheering .]
What's your name? Hi.
I am Mia pfirrman.
I'm from temple city, California.
Gwen: Oh, cool.
California! Just so you know what was going on back here, I was looking at Adam the whole time going, "oh, my God.
"That was that was really good, right? "When are we gonna start hitting our damn buttons here, you know?" And I think the one thing Maybe there wasn't as much finesse, but the fact that you were able to do a live performance of that kind of a song is incredible.
And the fact that I just said all that means I probably should be your coach.
[ Laughter .]
Because we had a little moment right there.
You got to admit it.
I mean, it was there.
Everybody saw it.
California, though, is nowhere near where you're from.
He loves to use geography.
It's just so incred it's like 2,000 Miles away from Oklahoma.
What are you talking about? I'm 20 feet from her right now.
[ Laughter .]
It's perfect.
Damn! [ Cheers and applause .]
You know what's really interesting is The moments that were really spectacular were, like, really spectacular.
I'm talking about world-class spectacular.
Wow.
But I'm gonna be as brutally honest with you as possible.
Even though it does need work, it's so good that I don't think it would have been fair for you to have gone home.
It needs refinement, though.
It does need refinement.
Thank you so much, Adam.
I feel like I can't wait to try a different song on you and see what who you really are and who you want to become.
You know, when I was your age, I was still trying to find myself.
And I could help you with that.
I was you, basically, back then.
I was you, too.
[ Laughter .]
No, I wasn't.
You took a lot of chances, vocally.
You were really pushing it with a lot of those notes.
At a certain time, I just had to be like, "okay, I got to turn around.
I got to see who this is.
" You sang like this was your one-and-only moment.
He hit the nail right on the head.
And it's astonishing how good these guys are at this.
When we see that quality in somebody Coming out here like it was their last time We know that that's how determined they are to make it.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
How much fun could we have? How much fun could we have? How much fun can we have? [ Laughter .]
Oh, my God.
You already know who you're gonna choose, right? Honestly, I thought I did when I came out here.
Yeah, but right now, I have no idea.
Let me help you out.
[ Laughs .]
[ Audience shouting .]
Aah! Go, baby! Come on! No, no, no! Me.
No.
Wait! It would be such an honor to work with all of you.
I wish I could.
But [ Audience shouting .]
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh.
Um I pick Adam.
Yes! If you gave me a chance, I would take it it's a shot in the dark, but I'll make it Really? Why? Adam: Awesome.
You're so good.
Four chairs.
What? Yo, your voice is crazy.
I really honestly thought I was gonna go with pharrell, but Adam totally spoke to me, and he was really persistent.
There's no place I'd rather be I'm losing it.
[ All cheering .]
That was so crazy.
Are you shocked? Yeah.
I didn't even know that they had all turned around.
My eyes were closed, so I didn't know.
Mia took on a really beastly song.
What's cool about it is that it showed her range as a singer.
Four chairs.
Four chairs.
[ Cheers and applause .]
You know, as much as Adam gets under my skin, I have to give him props, and it's literally driving me to drink.
Congratulations.
You deserved that one.
Whew! [ Coughs .]
When love takes over Daly: Adam continued to beat Blake and won over restaurant hostess alessandra castronovo.
Very rarely do we find someone with that type of just sheer power.
You are gonna blow their minds.
Thank you.
And I told you to be patient Daly: Pharrell beat Blake and Gwen to win over surfer jordy searcy.
I pressed the button 'cause I thought you were different.
Relying on your feeling during a performance is so important.
It's a very good trait.
Awesome.
Thank you so much.
I got my mind made up and I can't let go I'm killing every second till it sees my soul daly: Then Blake picked up his second artist of the night, high-school senior Kensington Moore.
That gravel that you have in your upper register, your voice starts to shred a little bit I love that.
Thank you so much.
Daly: Coming up, a singer with an inspiring story Bree: My dad taught me to not give up on your dreams.
Someone to open each and every door Daly: Hopes to move our coaches.
Come on, Gwen! And later I want to give you some love Daly: An artist comes back for a second chance like no other.
We know you.
Yes, you do.
Daly: Welcome back.
We're on our way to orange, California, to Bree fondacaro's house.
Bree comes from a family with a rich musical history, one that she's hoping to add to with her blind audition.
Someday will come along I come from a very musical family.
My dad is a little person, and my mom is of average size.
It's been really beautiful to see their love still so strong to this day.
When did you guys meet? Sal: We met in college.
She was with the choir, so we went on tour.
Music brought us together.
It brought us together.
How long have you been together? We've been married a little over 36 years.
My dad is a piano and vocal teacher.
Yes, mi Amor He brings me in with helping his students.
You want to me make sure that your diaphragm You're expanding out.
Daly: So, your dad inspires you, obviously, musically, but I'm sure in other ways, too.
He's been that person that has taught me, you know, to not give up on your dreams and it's given me such a strong backbone.
I have been gigging locally for about eight years.
But I just feel like this opportunity offers crazy exposure.
And to be able to work with a coach would be amazing.
If my parents get to see me turn a chair today, it's going to be a dream come true.
With the example they've set for me, I feel there's nothing that can hold me back.
Sal: Yes! Come on, Bree.
You can do this.
Go away from my window leave at your own chosen speed I'm not the one you want, baby I'm not the one you need you say you're lookin' for someone who's never weak but always strong to protect you and defend you whether you are right or wrong someone to open each and every door but it ain't me, babe no, no, no it ain't me, babe it ain't me you're lookin' for, babe you say you're looking for someone Come on, Gwen! Come on, Gwen! Come on, Gwen! each time you fall a lover for your life and nothing more but it ain't me, babe We're good! We're good! Way to go, Bree! It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe ohhhh [ Cheers and applause .]
Aww.
Hey.
All you need is one.
I was so close.
Like, I was like, "ugh!" Me and Blake are like You got Blake.
He's awesome.
I know, I know.
[ Cheers and applause .]
What's your name? My name's Bree fondacaro.
Where you from? I'm from orange county.
Yeah.
Wow.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Oh-ho-ho! I'm from orange county.
That's where I'm from, orange county.
"O.
C.
" What's up? What's up? [ Laughs .]
I feel like no doubt are, like, the ambassadors of orange county.
I feel like we are, too.
You know you know that we've got the key to the city of anaheim? Bree: Are you kidding? I swear.
And we got the key, and nothing happened.
It didn't open anything.
It was so weird.
There's no keyhole.
[ Laughter .]
But it was awesome.
That's rad.
I was really close to turning.
I loved the originality in your voice.
I really enjoyed the whole thing and I'm looking forward to watching you sing some more.
Thank you, Gwen.
Congratulations.
[ Cheers and applause .]
I'm always a fan of anything that I hear that's different, and it was.
And I always want to push, and whatever For some reason, I didn't.
But the good news is that someone did.
It's that guy over there, and he's an awesome coach.
And you should be very, very happy.
You've got the attention of a master, so Congratulations.
Your voice has a-a rawness to it that reminds me of someone like Bonnie Tyler.
And I think that you're completely unique to this competition.
You fit perfectly into my team.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Thank you so much.
All right, Bree, baby! Yes! Blake: I think Bree's gonna be one of those artists in this competition that is gonna sneak up on people.
Congratulations, sweetie.
Then, all of a sudden, everybody's gonna be wondering where this girl came from.
You sounded great.
Gwen: For Bree, I was really close, but I felt like I already had an artist sort of in that Lane.
So I just left it.
Blake is so awesome.
I love him.
Really nice to meet you.
Congratulations.
Nice to meet you.
Thank you very much.
[ Cheers and applause .]
When Blake turned, I was very relieved and excited.
I can't wait to see how he could get me to the next step.
Daly: Nice job! [ All cheering .]
Just remember you're on your way now.
On your way.
We're very proud of her.
It's a dream come true.
And now that she's made this step, who knows how far she'll go? But I know this she's got the determination and she's got the the willpower to to to accomplish it.
All: Team Blake! She's got something.
And even though we ain't got money I'm so in love with ya, honey Daly: You can download full versions of tonight's blind audition songs on iTunes.
Know now can you love me Uncondition-a-a-a-ally Daly: Still to come hey! We told you to come back, and you're here.
This is crazy! Daly: A comeback performance years in the making blows our coaches away.
What have you been doing since Blake and Adam didn't choose you? Oh, boy.
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Before we meet the night's final artist, here's where the teams stand.
Yes! Wow.
Daly: Adam scored soul singer Kelli Douglas Pop hopeful Mia pfirrman And powerhouse alessandra castronovo.
Yes! Blake landed pop vocalists John Martin and Kensington Moore and indie artist Bree fondacaro.
Oh, my God! Yes! Gwen picked up indie pop singer jessie pitts and pop rocker Troy ritchie.
[ Cheers and applause .]
And pharrell added pop vocalist Ricky Manning, soul artist blessing offor, and singer/songwriter jordy searcy.
Our last artist is a familiar face back to give it another try.
Anita: My name is Anita antoinette.
I'm from Kingston, Jamaica, and I currently live in Boston.
Some people might remember me from the third season.
What brings you back? A chance to sort of do it right.
Let's watch that performance.
Let's do it.
Come on! Say everything's gonna be all right everything's gonna be all right say n-n-n-n-n-no woman, no cry The spirit of what's being said in that song, which is very heavy and very important, wasn't being delivered.
I want to be crying when I turn around.
One thing I remember about this is that you kind of sang it again, remember? If I could just do this a cappella Go for it.
Everything is gonna be all right say n-n-n-n-n-no woman, no cry [ Cheers and applause .]
Come back next year.
That was beautiful.
You're crying.
What's wrong, Anita? It's just so emotional.
Yeah, it really is.
Talk to me.
I was disappointing not making a team.
It was like all of my dreams crashed at once.
I was so all over the place.
For two years, I've been battling with severe stage fright.
I haven't been performing because of that, which I do regret.
But music's my calling.
It's what I'm supposed to do.
I knew, at some point, I would have to come back.
I'm the type of person that if I start something, I just have to finish it.
Joan: Sometimes, things happen in life for you to get more experience and come back even stronger.
I love you.
My mom left when I was 2 to come to the U.
S.
and work.
I was about 8 years old when my mom sent for us.
She only had an eighth-grade education, and because of her, I graduated from berklee college of music.
I am very grateful for everything that she's ever done.
And I know that I hardly tell her that.
For my blind audition, I'll be singing "turn your lights down low.
" It's important for me to sing another Bob Marley song because it speaks to me.
And I would love for Adam to turn around.
I'd love for him to be like, "oh, my God! You did it, and I'm on your team!" [ Laughs .]
I love you.
Just go out there and do your best.
The fact that I get this chance again is not something that I take lightly.
It could be my last shot to just be great.
Everybody gets nervous, but I've turned that into fuel.
I just want to sing.
Go, girl! Come on! Turn your lights down low [ Cheers and applause .]
And open your window curtain Whoo! [ Both cheering .]
Oh, let your moon come shining in into our lives again saying, baby, I want to give you some love No, no.
No, no, no, no! I want to give you some good, good love [ Both cheering .]
Oh, I oh, I oh, I-I-I-I I want to give you some good, good love And check it.
Loving you is a like a song I replay every 3 minutes and 30 seconds of every day and every chorus was written for us to recite every beautiful melody of devotion every night Po, po, po! It's potion like this ocean that might carry me this wave of emotions to ask you to marry me I want to give you some love love I want to give you some good, good love Oh, my God.
[ Cheers and applause .]
That's crazy! Whoo! Whoo! Hey, we know you.
Yes, you do.
Yes.
We do! We do know you.
That's right.
Yes.
My name is Anita antoinette.
Yes.
Yeah, yes.
[ Laughs .]
And we told you to come back, and you're here.
That's cool.
Anita: Yes.
And we all turned around.
Congratulations.
That's unbelievable.
This is crazy! What?! Gwen: That's cool.
Oh, my God.
Gwen, pharrell.
Oh, my God.
I think I would have probably picked you then.
I would have had that instinct.
Ooh! I felt it right away.
I was like, "ooh! I need that cute voice on my team.
" Oh, my God.
Thanks.
Yeah.
It was so heartfelt.
You really were owning the song, and that's super-hard to do when you're doing that song.
Thank you.
Really, I loved it.
I loved it.
I am a fan.
I was all stressing out and stuff.
You didn't look stressed at all.
Thank you.
Where do you live now? I live in Boston, but I sound like I'm from the South when I'm nervous.
[ Laughter .]
I don't know why.
I'm from Jamaica.
I don't get it.
Well, interesting you should say that, because I-I do have a special place in my heart for the one-and-only tessanne chin, who is a Jamaican that we love.
[ Cheers and applause .]
The winner of "the voice," season 5.
[ Laughing .]
And she was on my team.
[ Laughing .]
Yeah.
It's no big deal.
It's fine.
What have you been doing since Blake and Adam didn't choose you? Oh, boy.
Anita: Ooh! She's good.
She's she's good.
So, what do you want to do? Like, what kind of music? I love music that touches people, that doesn't have the glitz and the glamour, but just has the message.
I love you.
I love what you're I love what you're saying.
Honestly, that's what I'm looking for.
Sorry, pharrell.
I love you so much, but I Seriously, that's exactly what I want.
I'm a songwriter.
Me too.
I'm a songwriter.
Me three.
[ Laughs .]
Okay, you said that you wanted to make music that touches people.
I'd love to help you do that.
Whew! [ Cheers and applause .]
I'm a country artist, and and that's what country music is.
It's about some stories and connecting a lyric to an artist and making people feel what you're trying to express up there onstage.
It's so important.
I think I could help you be even better at that.
Pharrell: You know what? It is true that a lot of roots/reggae artists They do cover country and folk songs.
So, to Blake's point, I mean, he could be great for you.
What are you doing to me right now? This is you're sneaking.
You're doing something.
No.
It's true.
They do.
But you're a really interesting artist, and I definitely want you.
What's interesting and what I loved about you You're about blending styles together.
I did that a lot.
Yeah.
That's why I really wish you'd be on my team.
Oh, God.
And if you don't pick me, I'm gonna steal you away from someone eventually, so Well, the thing is that when she picks me, I'm not giving her up.
So, you know, she's not gonna be available.
I just want to say one more thing to you.
See? He's going for it.
Damn right I'm going for it.
Well, she's gonna be on my team.
[ Laughter .]
Your head is in the right place, your heart is in the right place, and you can really accomplish anything at this point.
Look, you know what? This is a great day for you.
'Cause you have four people that can take you all the way there.
Who do you pick as your coach? We love you.
[ Cheers and applause .]
Oh! [ Audience shouting .]
This is so hard.
I got this.
I got this.
I'm so sorry.
Um I pick Gwen.
[ Screams .]
Yes! Yes! [ Laughs .]
Damn! And then it goes back and then it goes back I'm so excited.
Oh, my God.
You're beautiful.
You are.
I named my son Kingston after Kingston, Jamaica, so I feel that Anita and I are meant to be.
I'm so happy.
Oh, my God.
She likes that music, and so do I.
So it's perfect.
Thank you so much.
Good luck to you, sweetie.
That is insane! I thought I was gonna go with Adam.
I did.
Oh, yeah! But I felt more of a connection with Gwen in that moment.
Just a like a wavin' flag [ Laughs .]
Daly: All right! Yeah! Whoo! [ All cheering .]
Finally, you made it.
Finally.
[ Laughter .]
She is the real deal.
That's the thing.
How did I get her? I finally won my first four-chair turn, and that's a hard thing to say, okay? Try saying it.
Four-chair turn.
Oh, my God! I'm so happy right now.
She's awesome.
Anita I felt connected to her because we gave her that advice to come back, and it was so nice to see her kind of resurface.
She's in a good place with Gwen, though.
[ Groans .]
It will just be a joy to watch her progress and sing.
Let's go! Aww! Hi.
Blake: Hey, buddy.

[ Laughs .]
That's the only problem, man.

What have you been doing since Blake and Adam didn't choose you? Oh, boy.
