NCIS Los Angeles s07e19 Episode Script

The Seventh Child

1 (whimpering) (grunting) (door opening) (indistinct chatter) Could you get it off? No.
There's no way.
I can't do this.
Then we run.
We get away.
This way.
Now.
(grunts) (grunting) This way! No! Karim! (tires screeching) (explosion) Karim! (sirens blaring) NCIS: LA 7x19 The Seventh Child @elderman KENSI: You have a home office.
DEEKS: Yeah, you don't need a home office.
It's just another room for you to mess up.
I'm-- Maybe an extra bedroom then, for, like, your mom or something.
That's your argument? A bedroom for my mom? I'm just saying, if we're on top of each other all the time, this isn't gonna work.
Okay, that's interesting, 'cause I think we do our best work on top of each other.
Hey, we're at work.
No sex talk.
You want coffee? No, no coffee for me.
Besides, it doesn't matter.
Hetty's not even here.
We can talk about sex as much as we want.
What are you talking about? Hetty is everywhere.
You know that.
Um So you-you think we need a bigger place? Well, I mean, it wouldn't be my place or your place.
It would just kind of be Our place.
Is there, um something you want to tell me? No.
I just saw it, and I decided to buy it.
Oh.
Damn cute baby.
And I get it, it's a natural instinct.
And as the relationship progresses, we Right, and you have your Little Brother program.
Oh, the-the fost-foster Yeah, no, I definitely I You can do that, too, though.
Hang out with a foster kid.
You should do I mean, that's I mean, obviously, it's not as big a commitment as-as this would be.
Right.
ERIC: Ops.
Stat-- there's been an explosion downtown.
Um At 9:14 there was an explosion at the southwest corner of Pershing Square.
FBI asked Callen and Sam to the scene.
Do we know why the FBI asked for our help? Not yet.
So is it terrorist attack, or is it a gas leak? ERIC: No one's confirmed anything.
We're looking at security cams.
There's no clear angle of the explosion.
What about outliers on other cameras? Way ahead of you.
It's morning downtown, so the outliers are these two boys.
Looks like they're being chased by these men.
Can you get any tighter? Yeah.
(rapid typing) They're twins.
I know, they look 11 or 12.
Could these boys be the bombers? DEEKS: They're Caucasian-- could be domestic terrorism.
What about the guys chasing them? Facial-rec is running.
Maybe they're not involved at all.
Maybe they know something and the guys are just preventing them from warning people.
Yeah, but they're kids and it's a school day.
Like, what are they doing down there? KENSI: I mean, if one of them was carrying the bomb that exploded, that would mean He's dead.
Call us when you find the other boy.
(indistinct chatter) Agents Hanna, Callen.
Agent Rand, I wish we were seeing you under different circumstances.
This one is particularly bad.
What do you have? Witnesses saw the car hit the boy, and the accident triggered some sort of explosion.
Well, from the location of the blast, it wasn't the car's gas tank.
Kid must have been rigged with the explosives.
Techs say they found shrapnel and remnants of what appears to be a suicide vest.
The M.
E.
puts the boy's age at around 11 years old.
11-year-old suicide bomber? I know.
I I have an 11-year-old son.
All right, we're happy to help.
Why'd you call us? Initial tests indicate that the explosive was made of Binetex.
Binetex isn't on the streets.
Exactly.
And you worked a Binetex case with ATF in November.
And ATF said they recovered all of it.
Well, not so much.
Looks like the circuit had a wireless receiver.
Also found parts of a smartphone.
I've seen this before.
The phone acts as a dead man's switch.
If it can detect changes in anything it monitors-- kaboom-- bomb goes off.
What kind of changes are we talking about? Anything, pick an app.
Change the GPS, change of altitude It explodes.
SAM: It ensures even if the bomber doesn't pull the trigger, the bomb still goes off.
It means the kid was forced to do it.
I have other witnesses that say that he was with another child.
He could be wearing a vest, too.
KENSI: This is downtown Los Angeles.
This kid has to show up on a camera somewhere.
We lose him one block from the explosion.
Got a hit on one of the men from Pershing Square.
Name is Pritam Mondal.
CIA believes he is a member of al-Qaeda, operating out of India? These kids don't look Indian.
NELL: Just got a facial-rec hit on one of the boys.
He's Israeli.
His name is Tomar Zahavi.
He's a son of David and Rachel Zahavi.
NELL: Okay, David Zahavi he's an Israeli diplomat.
He's been to the United States seven times in the last four years.
Where is he now? ERIC: Um Tel Aviv.
I want to talk to him.
It's 9:00 there.
Wake him up if you have to.
Okay.
I'm running a SVTC connection through the state department.
That way, he'll know we are who we say we are.
DAVID ZAHAVI: Please identify yourself.
NELL: David Sahavi, this is the NCIS Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles.
I have Special Agent Kensi Blye for you.
I would like a visual.
Mr.
Zahavi, I'm Special Agent Kensi Blye.
Is this about the explosion? Yes.
I'm watching news coverage of it now.
Was it a bomb? It was a bomb.
And there's no easy way to say this, but your son may have been involved.
My son, Tomar? He's 11 years old.
I'm LAPD Detective Martin Deeks.
Uh, is your son in Los Angeles? No, of course not.
He's here with me.
(sighs) This is absurd.
You don't believe me? Just for clarification, your son is with you right now? Is Tomar still awake? (woman speaking Hebrew) Just bring him in here.
He looks just like the other two boys.
Yeah, except he's 7,000 miles away.
Is the Israeli boy related? ERIC: We're still trying to locate birth records, but according to tax records, Tomar is David and Rachel Zahavi's only son.
GRANGER: So he's just a doppelganger who has nothing to do with this? Granger, the boys at the site looked like twins.
Lot of twins and triplets coming out of fertility clinics.
Just got a hit on the boy from the park.
He is six blocks away from Callen and Sam.
Get them his GPS.
Blye, Deeks-- Find out if there's a connection between the three boys, got it.
Any way the Zahavis had other kids that weren't documented? Unless the dad was hiding something, he would have mentioned it.
They'd have to be identical triplets.
Which would be rare.
That would mean the Zahavis gave up two of their boys for adoption.
I'm still trying to locate the hospital where Tomar was born.
It shouldn't be this difficult.
It just seems odd that they would have given up two of their boys.
A mother's instinct? (sighs) Yeah.
Something like that.
Give us everything you have on Tomar Zahavi.
Social media, photos, school records-- on the back screen, please.
ERIC: Coming at you.
(beeping) Looks like a pretty happy childhood.
Yeah, but having kids means the end of a lot of amazing things.
Like our partnership? I don't know if I'd make a very good stay-at-home dad.
Sam has kids.
Yeah, Michelle had to leave the CIA because of those kids.
So what are you saying? That it's just not gonna happen at all? I didn't say that.
Having kids is also the beginning of some amazing things.
So what does that mean? What are you saying? I don't know.
Are we sure we want to go here? I think we're already here.
How did that happen? (chuckles) You know, like, we woke up this morning, and we were not here.
I know.
Definitely not here.
And all of a sudden, we are very much here.
(chuckles) The Zahavis are well off, they're married, and they're established.
Which means, even if they weren't expecting triplets They would never give up any of their kids.
Because the truth is those kids would be the most important thing in the world to them.
(siren blaring) We're here, Eric.
All right, he went inside the building, got on the elevator, heading up, 19 minutes ago.
NELL: And he got off at the top floor.
(indistinct conversations) (elevator bell dings) You seeing anything? I got an audiologist, an accountant, an insurance company I got an employment agency and escrow company.
If he doesn't know anybody up here and he needs to hide Why's he coming to the top floor? He didn't, he went to the roof.
I got nothing.
Okay.
He doesn't want to detonate the bomb.
First thing I'd do is take off the vest off.
Well, FBI and LAPD are combing the area with dogs.
They haven't found a vest.
Maybe he can't take the vest off.
Then he'd want to deactivate it.
How? And if he's a smart boy, he'd try to submerge it in water.
How you doing? I'm a federal agent.
Not gonna hurt you.
My name is Callen.
What's your name? Nadir.
Nadir.
How you doing, Nadir? I'm going to come down there, all right? You're going to kill me.
No, no, I'm here to help.
I see your gun.
I'm not going to bring my gun, okay? Not going to bring it.
G, I should be in there.
Let me try and talk him down-- I might be a little less intimating.
Here.
All right, Nadir.
No gun, okay? I'm coming down.
Eric, I need the bomb squad now.
Stay away from me.
I'm not going to hurt you, just want to talk.
How's the water down there? It's very, very cold.
You like to swim, Nadir? I've never swam before.
Really? Ooh! Yeah.
That's cold.
You never swam, but you came down into this water.
That's pretty brave of you.
Don't come any closer.
I know why you're in here.
You have a bomb vest on you, is that right? My clothes for my trip to heaven.
Look, I can get some experts down here that can safely take that off you, all right? Nobody's touching me.
We just want to help.
You are the great Satan, and I would rather destroy us both than let you touch my body.
We're just going to take off the vest, that's all.
Your touch will prevent me from entering the kingdom of heaven.
And I will die before I let that happen.
All I have to do is lift my thumb off the phone.
(sirens wailing) The kid's wearing a bomb vest.
He's up inside the roof's water tank.
He was trying to deactivate it.
Get the street shut down, get LAPD to clear out this building first and then work outward to all the surrounding buildings.
Yes, ma'am.
Callen's with him in the tank.
He's trying to talk him down.
I want one agent to go up there and support Callen.
I don't want SWA spooking this kid.
I'll do it.
Hold on.
You sure? That bomb goes off If I can't save this child, then why am I doing this job? Where are you going? I'm going back to the site.
I need to find out if this bomb is still viable.
DEEKS: So Tomar's birth certificate from Israel says he was born in Mumbai, India.
But on all the documents from the Indian government the birth mother's name's been redacted.
I actually read about this.
There's a lot of couples going to India 'cause of the lower cost of surrogacy.
Well, that tracks.
The men from the park are part of an Indian al-Qaeda cell.
(typing) And according to the airline records, the Zahavis traveled to India two days after the birth.
So what about Mumbai Hospitals? I'll check with Eric.
I mean, there has to be some sort of record or indication of who adopted the other boys.
That would explain why David didn't say anything.
I mean, he probably didn't know the other babies were even born.
Okay, Eric already checked.
No record of Tomar Zahavi in Mumbai hospitals.
Well, somebody could have erased the records.
Or the surrogate could have given birth in another city in India.
Or could have had a home birth.
That's what I would do.
What? You-You wouldn't want the support of a trained professional in case anything goes wrong? Please, women have been giving birth for millions of years without doctors.
I think I can handle it.
You think that you could Wow.
Are we really Are we really having this conversation? Seems like you are.
Why would I want to put our child in danger? I'm just saying that a hospital is a safer place to have a kid.
That's funny, I thought we weren't having a kid.
I never said that.
(computer beeps) Hold please.
No records on Tomar Zahavi in any hospital in India.
GRANGER: Well, there must have been a doctor in Mumbai who handled the surrogacy.
Okay, I will look into fertility clinics in Mumbai.
What's your view on, uh, circumcision? I don't know.
You go first.
I think that mutilating-- Answer that and you're fired.
(indistinct radio transmissions) (distant siren wails) Look at this circuit.
See the way it's covered in oxide? That means it was coated with silicone.
It was heated during the explosion and then turned to oxide.
Yeah.
You hear that, G? Yeah, it's covered in silicone.
That means water won't interfere with the circuit.
The bomb is still viable.
Got it.
Look, Nadir my partner is telling me that submerging that vest in water is not going to stop the bomb from exploding.
How do you know that? Because we can talk to each other through this.
How does he know? Because he's looking at what's left of the bomb that that killed your brother.
Look, I'm sorry.
He was my twin.
I know.
I can't live without him.
Yes, you can.
I know what it's like to be out in the world alone.
I never knew my parents.
I didn't even really meet my mom.
I didn't even know my first name until-- I don't care about your name.
My brother died today.
I understand.
Karim was all I had.
My parents abandoned us.
Nadir I get it.
You gotta trust me on that, okay? Now, what do you say I bring someone in here that can safely take that vest off you? I-I-I know that's what you want.
And then I will find the people that killed your brother.
They didn't kill my brother.
They sent him to heaven.
That's just not true.
My parents were devils who didn't even care about their own children.
They left us for dead.
But that doesn't mean that you have to die.
If I wasn't holding this, I would be dead now.
Tell me that isn't true.
I don't shoot children.
Your country has killed children.
You can't deny it.
Innocent children, in their homes.
So why not me? Tell me.
Tell me! All right, we're looking for a doctor named Yatin Baral, an O.
B.
practicing out of Mumbai, India.
He's a fertility specialist.
And the clinic connects surrogates in India to couples in Australia, America England, France And Israel.
Make sure Callen and Sam are getting this.
CALLEN: Keep going.
I'm listening.
I'm hearing it.
NELL: The Human Rights Commission has opened an investigation into Dr.
Baral.
It seems he's accused of impregnating very young women with many more embryos than is ethical or safe for the girls to carry to full term.
ERIC: And the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation also has a case against Dr.
Baral, for selling babies on the black market.
So he impregnates young women with multiple eggs, they carry to term GRANGER: And he gives the parents one of the children.
And then the son of a bitch sells the rest on the black market.
He could be selling to other couples who want babies.
Use for child labor.
Or he raises them to be human bombs in the United States.
How certain are we about this? DEEKS: About the boys being related? I mean, based on the photos, I'd put money on it.
M.
E.
is sending DNA from the bomb blast to the FBI crime lab.
The Zahavis also sent their son's DNA, and it's being processed now.
And how long till we get the results? You don't have time to wait, Agent Callen.
Proceed as if we're right on this, for your own sake.
Nadir, I need you to listen to me.
You were not abandoned.
Your parents did not give you up.
You don't know anything about me.
Well, actually, I do.
I have my people looking into your background.
I know who your parents are.
They didn't care about me and my brother, so I don't care about them.
Nadir, it's much more complicated than that.
They left us on the street to die-- what's complicated about that? That is not true.
Your mom and dad didn't know you were born.
How can a mother give birth and not know about her son? Your mom was not able to carry a baby, but your mom and dad really wanted children.
So your mom and dad's DNA was put into another woman, and she gave birth to you and your brother.
What's DNA? DEEKS: Callen, this kid was raised in isolation-- he has no reference for any of this.
Tell me now, why I shouldn't take my thumb off this phone.
Nadir, just hear me out, okay? SAM: We got a problem.
The cell phone is a dead man' switch, and as soon as the battery runs down, the bomb goes off.
I'm going to need some help down here.
SAM: Okay, hold tight.
Kensi, get me the parents.
So there is nothing concrete that says Dr.
Baral actually did this? KENSI: No, Mrs.
Zahavi, but you saw the pictures.
There are a lot of people in this world who look alike.
There are agents' lives on the line here.
(sighs) We'll do whatever we can, but at this point, we're not getting our son involved.
He doesn't even know he was born from a surrogate.
Um, listen, there's no halfway on this.
You have to make sure he believes you're his parents.
We understand.
It's coming down.
(grunts) Who's that? That is my partner and my friend.
What are you doing? You might not understand what I've been telling you, so there's somebody I want you to talk to.
Eric, we good? You're on.
Nadir, I want you to meet your parents.
Hello, Nadir.
I'm David.
I am your biological father.
And I am your mother.
Please let the men take that vest off you.
Prove it.
We're running a test now, but we do believe that you are Believe? Believe what? That you are our son.
How do you know? Because you have another brother.
A twin.
Or a-a triplet, I guess.
Let me see him.
Where is he? Why doesn't he talk to me? Uh I don't want to do that.
It's-it's a lot for him to understand.
But for me it's okay? No, it's not, but you're in a bad situation.
I'm trying to help.
(beep) The DNA results are back.
Callen, DNA tests are in.
It's confirmed.
They're brothers.
David, Rachel, we have the results.
Nadir is your son.
RACHEL: You're sure? 100%.
RACHEL: Oh, my God.
Nadir, you are our son.
Please let them take that vest off of you.
Please, I'm begging you.
I don't believe you.
Y-You say a test came back.
How do I know that means anything? We're running out of time.
But we can show you the-the results.
The-the test, it-it compares your It's just words.
They're gone.
Where did they go? David? Rachel? Guys? ERIC: Mr.
Zahavi.
Uh, guys, I don't know what happened.
Nadir, I want you to meet your brother.
His name is Tomar.
You're my brother.
And you are mine.
It's true.
DAVID: Yes, it is.
I promise you, we didn't abandon you.
We will never abandon you.
Please, take this off me.
Please.
Sam, get the bomb techs down here now.
That's good.
That's all we need.
(grunts) Here you go.
Step up on the blocks.
(exhales) That's not good.
SAM: That's a second dead man's switch.
BOMB TECH: It's sending a wireless signal to the phone that's monitoring his pulse.
BOMB TECH: If it's removed or if something happens to him, causing his pulse to slow or stop, the bomb will go off.
C-Can you still get it off? SAM: Yes.
These men are the best in the world at this.
Nadir, the men who put this vest on you, d-do you know where they live? Do you know their address? I'm not from here.
We only came from India two weeks ago, and they forced us to stay inside the house.
Do you remember any buildings, any-any landmarks? A-a park, a store.
Anything? We were close to a football stadium.
Football.
Soccer? All he knows is soccer.
Anaheim, Dodger Stadium, the Forum.
Was it covered or open-air? Open, but it was a football stadium.
And do you remember any other details about it? It was big.
There were these circles.
One on top of another.
Olympic rings.
The Coliseum.
On it.
We can't disarm it.
If we interrupt the circuit, it'll go off.
(sighs) If we take it off and try and detonate it It'll sense his pulse stopped and it'll go off.
Am I going to die? (beeping) All right, comparing cell phone records from Pershing Square at the time of the bombing to cell phone records from the towers near the Coliseum, we've got five matches.
KENSI: And one burn phone that only made four calls.
Three from Pershing Square this morning and one from an address near the Coliseum.
Have FBI meet us there.
Sam, we have an address.
Execute with extreme prejudice.
I have to go.
BOMB TECH: Lucky you.
Send in my guys.
Will do.
Wh-Where is he going? Is everybody leaving? Nadir, look at me.
I'm not leaving.
Everything's gonna be okay.
I promise you.
I will be with you the whole time.
(engine revving) (tires screech) Landlord's in the back house.
He's been contacted and vacated.
Radar says there are four targets on the bottom floor and four or more on the top.
All right, we pulled the city permits.
We got two staircases to the second floor.
Back one is gonna be tough, because it's a single man.
All right, I'll take it with my team.
All right.
The most cover is to go from this house over the fence into the backyard.
We got two teams in the front, one in the back.
SWAT's ready to roll.
Well, let's do this.
(grunts) In position.
Execute, execute, execute.
Federal agents! Freeze! Stop! Don't move! Federal agents! Drop that weapon! Drop that weapon! Get down on your knees.
Down on your knees.
Down on your knees! You strap a bomb to a child but not so willing to die yourself, huh? AGENT: Clear.
Clear.
Federal agents! Stay away from us! Deeks, get everybody out of the house and clear the surrounding homes.
You heard him.
Everybody out.
Yes, sir.
Let's move.
Deeks, you, too.
Move.
Okay, I'll be close.
Put your gun down.
Now.
Okay.
Okay.
Let's just talk.
Okay? Putting the gun down.
All right? Let's just talk.
You are a follower of the prophet? Alayhi as-salam.
Yes, I am.
Then prepare to meet him in paradise.
(sighs) You inside his phone? Yeah.
BOMB TECH: We're taking a digital representation of Nadir's fingerprint from the phone and feeding the print back into the phone.
So the phone will think he's still holding it.
Exactly.
Done.
He can take his thumb off the phone.
Okay, here's the tricky part.
We're gonna need to hear his pulse.
(muffled heartbeat) What will help is if you can become as relaxed as possible.
That'll slow your heart, give us space between beats to roll in a recording of your pulse.
I don't know how to do that.
What do you like to do back in India? I like to I like to draw.
You like to draw? That's perfect.
Okay, here's what I want you to do.
Close your eyes and draw something.
What? Well, what do you normally draw? Animals.
Great.
Close your eyes and draw me a crocodile.
I love crocodiles.
I like 'em, too.
They're the best, right? And, you know, they're the closest thing we have to a dinosaur.
What's a dinosaur? I'm gonna tell you all about it when we get out of here, okay? Just close your eyes.
(sighs) There you go.
His heartbeat's slowing down.
Good job.
(computer beeps) I'm recording.
(beep) Got it.
I'll loop it and sync it to his live pulse.
Uh, he's speeding up a little.
Try to keep his beats per minute the same.
Have you ever seen a crocodile in real life? uh, no, I-I wanted to.
My brother and me would look at them in a book.
His pulse is going up a lot.
I-I want my brother back.
I know how you feel, Nadir.
I do.
(beep) I can't sync it now.
I-I'm scared without him.
When I was your age, I spent a lot of time being scared.
What did you do? Well There will be people who come into your life.
And you'll know you're safe when you're with them.
It's slowing down.
All right, let's do this.
(beep) I'm ready to switch over.
It's gonna be okay.
(beep) Done.
It should be okay to remove the sensor.
It's over.
(sighs) Let's get you both out of here.
Let's get you up the ladder.
Let's get you out.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
I see movement in that window.
Get those people out of there.
SANJAY: Life is nothing compared to heaven.
(indistinct conversation) We have no choice now.
Of course you do.
You always have a choice.
It is not a choice to serve God.
You know Mohammad, alayhi as-salam, never sent children into war.
We can only serve through our jihad.
By taking your own life? Do you want to die? Do you want to die? Do you really want to die? You know the prophet, alayhi as-salam.
said a person who commits suicide is doomed to all eternity to repeat his death over and over.
Don't listen to him! Americans lie.
ERIC: Sam, using images from your body cam and their entrance visas, we've matched three Make that four.
Sorry, four children, using their birthdays, to the same clinic where Nadir was born.
Means they have parents.
Use it.
You have a family out there.
No, we don't.
That's a lie! Listen, it's difficult to explain We will go to heaven now.
Allahu Akbar! No, no, no, no! Don't do it.
No, no! Release your vengeance! I'm telling you there are people out there that love you.
He's lying! Wait, wait, wait! Just wa Just wait.
Stop.
Just do this for me.
Imagine Allah in your heart.
What does he feel like? Is he loving? Does he care for you? Does he want us to take care of one another? Or does he want us to destroy one another? Feel with the heart that Allah gave you.
I don't want to do this.
Please.
We're gonna get that thing off of you, okay? Deeks, send up the bomb squad.
T-Take it off me, too.
DEEKS: Kensi, send 'em up now.
I-I don't want to die.
Take this vest off me.
We will.
Bomb squad is two seconds away.
It's gonna be okay, I promise.
You said we had families? Is that true? Yes.
Don't let me die.
I won't.
I promise.
Let's get this thing off him.
(sighs) That was a crazy day.
Yeah, I know.
I mean, not crazier than we've had before, but Yeah, but still, it's like Too crazy for two people to have a baby.
I mean, I I don't know.
Was it too crazy for two people to get married? What did you say? Just wanted to know if you think it's too crazy for two people to two people to get married.
No, I I-I don't think it's too crazy for that, no.
Sorry, is that-is that is that Are you saying yes? Not gonna saying yes in the hallway at work without a ring on my finger.
Oh, so you want me down on one knee? Be a good start.
You want the beach and the sunset with the ring.
Yeah.
Maybe then you'd have a chance.
Okay.
Hey.
That's still a yes.
(door opens) Huh? Baby? Uh-huh, that's a yes.
Your new clothes a little stiff? Well, you wash 'em a couple times, they'll feel better.
You okay? What if when I finally meet them, they don't want me? They're your parents.
They're going to want you.
I promise you.
(knocking) (door opens) Hello? Is this the place? Yeah, come on in.
DAVID: Hi.
I'm Agent Callen.
David Zahavi.
How are you? Hello.
Nadir, this is your mom and dad.
And this is your brother.
Can we give you a hug? I'll leave you all alone for a bit.
Callen.
Remember how you said there would be people that would come into my life and I know I'd be safe with them? Yeah.
You were right.
Your mom and dad are gonna keep you very safe.
I meant you.
Did you ever find out your first name? Yeah.
It's Grisha.
But, uh nobody calls me that.
Then I will.
Thank you, Grisha.
CALLEN: Thank you, Nadir.
