Dynasty s08e10 Episode Script

The Fair

This morning, I met with the board of directors, and I proposed the creation of an executive committee with each one of you having one equal vote.
Now, as to who sits in this chair, it will be Steven.
Last time on Dynasty: Congratulations.
I love Adam very much, and I'd do anything for him.
God, how do you expect this marriage to work when there are three of you? You, Adam and this dreadful secret.
I know why you only told Alexis part of the story.
What do you mean? You were very much in love with that young man in high school.
So, of course, when you found yourself pregnant, you really had no choice but to resolve the problem.
What do you want from me? I don't want you to panic.
Your secret is safe with me.
Our sweet little daughter-in-law Dana can't have children.
I know that.
A botched abortion a long time ago I don't wanna hear any more.
Do you mind? I am not going to let you interfere.
We're talking about something terribly important for the future of our family.
I'm warning you, stay out of this.
- The other night was - Wonderful.
- That's all right, you can say it.
- I would, but I can't.
Because it can't happen again.
I know you and Jeff are going through a difficult time right now.
I don't even know if we have a relationship anymore.
I can't remember the last time we made love.
I'm here to talk about the deposition that you gave to Blake.
You think Blake Carrington paid me off? Let's just say that he needed a favour and so do I.
I don't sell that kind of favour, Mrs.
Colby.
The deposition said Blake's brother Ben was not with you on the night his mother died in that fire, but with another woman.
- I heard what you said to Cora.
- Really? I have something I think you'd be interested in.
This film was shot by an amateur.
I did what I could to bring up the quality.
Well, do you think you can recognise the faces? Yeah, I think so.
Let me run it for you.
This will do very nicely.
Well, according to the morning papers, we're gaining steadily in the polls.
- That sounds encouraging.
- Well, that's wonderful.
Excuse me, Mr.
And Mrs.
Carrington, there's someone here to see you.
Hear ye, hear ye.
Milady Alexis Colby Rowan requests the honour of your presence at the Olde English Fair.
Two days hence at half- past the hour of 7.
It will be a night of food, drink, and merrymaking.
No one could ever accuse Alexis of subtlety.
Yes, looks like it's going to be fun, but spending an evening with Alexis is the last thing that I want to do.
Or I want to do.
But the money will help the drug rehabilitation centre.
Yes, that's true.
We know how worthwhile that is.
But any time that woman does anything We always suspect the worst.
- And we're never disappointed.
- Heh.
All right.
We'll go.
We'd better start thinking about costumes.
Uh, I've done that already.
They're hanging upstairs.
Why is it I get the feeling that I don't make any decisions around this house? Well, I've got a decision for you.
You know that film that Alexis asked us to send over? Oh, yes.
The one she's going to show at the fair.
The one of us touring around the rehabilitation centre? I thought we agreed to give it to her.
I wonder if we did the right thing.
It's her affair, so why does she wanna show a film about us? I think we ought to ask for it back.
I say let her have the film.
I came by to ask why you quit, but it looks like you're quitting more than the football team.
I didn't think it'd matter to you.
You're wrong.
It does matter.
Look, don't do that, Sammy Jo.
We had our one-night stand.
That's all you wanted.
You made that clear.
Just because I didn't agree to run away with you, that means I don't care? Well, look who's running away now.
Why? Because it's just something I wanna do.
You wouldn't understand.
Oh, really? That's funny.
I know all about running away.
I wrote the book.
When things got rough, Sammy Jo got going.
Well, maybe you were right.
No.
I was afraid.
I wasn't sure where I belonged, so I didn't stay in one place long enough to find out.
I even left Danny behind.
I gave up three years of my son's life because I was too scared to fight for him.
I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself for that.
Sammy Jo, we're different people.
I have to go.
It's easier that way.
But it isn't.
Can't you see that once you start running, it gets harder and harder to stop? I do care about you, Josh.
I don't want it to end like this.
I can't believe that you're going to do this.
You and Jeff have been in love since you were kids.
We've been unhappy for a long time.
Well, you can't just throw a marriage away like this.
Get some help.
Work it out.
It's too late for help.
There are things that have happened between us that Well, I don't want to talk about it.
I'm not sure I'm in love with him anymore.
Now, how can you say that? How many times have you told me Jeff was the best thing that ever happened to you? I told you what you wanted to hear.
But sometimes it wasn't true.
I didn't wanna tell you then because I know how much you love Jeff.
I never wanted you to live a lie because of me.
I know that.
I wanted you to be proud of me.
I still do.
That's why it's really important you understand this is for the best.
I'm trying to understand, but I just can't accept.
I love you both very much.
That doesn't have to change.
Is Jeff going to move out? After the campaign.
We don't want this to affect the election.
And you're going to stay together and just pretend? - We'll work it out.
- To please me? Fallon, that campaign doesn't mean a damn to me if it continues to make you and that boy unhappy.
Now, please, don't live any more lies because of me.
- Daddy - I mean that.
Now, you and Jeff work it out.
But be honest with yourselves.
Don't use me as an excuse.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's a free agent now.
That's a definite possibility.
Listen, uh, can you get right back to me on this? That'd be great.
Thanks a lot.
I gotta talk to you.
I'd have thought you'd be miles out of town by now, Harris.
I wanna play on Sunday.
Wait a minute.
I thought I heard you say you quit the football team.
Was I imagining that? No, I said it.
Look, I've been acting like a jerk, but I'm back now.
I'll do whatever you want me to do.
Well, it's too late.
That phone call you interrupted was about your replacement.
- You wanna win on Sunday? - What do you think? You bring in a new quarterback now, you're kissing the playoffs goodbye.
Look, Steven, I know that game plan inside and out.
I'll be at practise an hour early.
You see something you don't like, you tell me.
I'll listen.
Just out of curiosity, what was it that turned you around? I ran into an old friend.
We'd been out of touch for a while.
You might know him.
His name's Josh Harris.
Yeah, I remember him.
Hell of a football player.
The best.
Yeah? Yeah, put him on.
Hi.
You did? Well, listen, um, I've changed my mind.
We have our new quarterback.
I just checked to see if the film has arrived.
I'm so glad you're on top of everything, darling.
Have you heard from our guests of honour? Oh, yes.
"Mr.
And Mrs.
Blake Carrington will be pleased to accept your invitation to the fair.
" Hmm.
Actually, the pleasure is going to be all mine.
Well, I'm not surprised.
You've always been able to handle at least a dozen things at once.
Right.
Yes, 7:00.
We're both looking forward to it.
Bye.
Are you okay? Adam, I went to the doctor's office with Karen earlier.
And? And I felt the baby move.
For the first time, I felt the baby move.
Oh, that's great.
No, it was incredible.
I mean, Karen and I were sitting there talking I can't even remember what about.
- And she took my hand and put it on her stomach and our baby moved.
Adam, this is really happening.
We're really gonna have a baby.
Oh, I like the way that sounds.
We are going to have a baby.
I think this calls for a celebration.
Oh, then let's celebrate.
Well, that's the plan.
I just got off the phone with mother, and the four of us are gonna have dinner tonight.
Oh.
I hoped you'd be pleased.
Well, is this Alexis' idea? No, as a matter of fact, it was mine.
Oh, well, I'll be honest.
I'm not really in the mood to have dinner with your mother or her husband.
What is that supposed to mean? Don't you like Sean? - It isn't Sean.
- Well, is it Mother? Adam, this is our celebration and I don't feel like sharing it with anyone else.
I'm sorry.
I should have talked to you first.
Then please call her back and tell her we're not coming.
I can't do that.
No, of course not, we mustn't disappoint Alexis.
Dana, it's very important to me that the two women I love most get along.
Whatever there is between you and Mother, please try.
For me? All right.
Thank you.
Tonight, just the four of us.
Intimate family dinner.
Mr.
And Mrs.
Blake Carrington are shown here on a recent tour of the Hampton Springs Drug Rehabilitation Centre.
As chairman of the centre's fund-raising committee, Krystle Carrington has been responsible for raising nearly half a million dollars toward the construction of this new larger facility.
Blake Carrington, a candidate for governor of Colorado, is spearheading a drive to create a state-wide task force on substance abuse.
It's good.
It's, uh, very effective.
Alexis already has a copy.
Jeff.
Blake told me about you and Fallon.
I'm so sorry.
Fallon just thought that it would be better if we lived apart for a while.
How do you feel about that? Oh, Fallon and I have been on a roller coaster ever since we were 14 years old.
I'm tired, I don't want any more ups and downs in my life.
And she's looking for her independence and I'm looking for someone who's there just for me.
Does that sound selfish? No.
But maybe you're asking her for something she can't give right now.
Well, maybe nobody can.
I mean, I grew up expecting that the husband works hard, and he takes care of the family, his wife is there to support him.
- It's just not that way.
I just feel lost.
- Well, you're not alone.
Relationships aren't that easy anymore.
Jeff, the one question you have to ask yourself is: Do you still love her? Part of me wants to walk away.
On the other hand, there's a bigger part of me that wants to grab Fallon and jump back on that roller coaster and start all over again.
- It's crazy, isn't it? - No, it isn't crazy.
There are no simple answers.
I want you both to be happy.
Jeff, if you still love her, fight to keep your marriage together.
The sheriff and his posse left town an hour ago.
Where did you get that outfit? Thrift shop.
What do you think? - You like it? - Oh, I love it.
I love it.
Steven told me you're back on the team.
- Yep.
- I'm glad.
Well, I owe it all to you.
Thanks to you, I'm practising like a mean, mobile, hostile football player.
And now, I'm even, uh, ready to ride.
You wanna join me, little lady? Uh, no, I really don't feel like riding.
Thanks.
Good.
Josh, I can't.
Why are you always fighting me? I mean, we're so good together.
When I'm with you, I feel like I can take on the world.
Why are you making this so difficult? Because I'm in love with you.
And I know you're in love with me.
You're just too dang stubborn to admit it.
You just won't listen.
I heard everything I needed to hear last night.
You care about me, I know you do.
- Marry me.
- Heh.
What? Maybe this'll help.
Sammy Jo, I want you to be my wife.
Josh, it can't be.
Don't you understand that? Yeah.
I guess I understand plenty.
Yesterday was just some kind of big joke.
Boy, you and Steven must've laughed your heads off.
Just give old Josh a pep talk and the fool will think you're in love with him.
I was trying to help you.
Can't you recognise that? Yeah.
I recognise everything.
Thanks for your help.
- It's not what you think - Forget it.
And legend has it that with a fine brandy just the right temperature, you can close your eyes, take a deep breath, and clearly see your future.
What do you see for yourself, Sean? Mm.
I don't know.
It generally gets much clearer after four or five brandies.
In that case, I don't think you'd better tell your story about the Irish whisky.
This has been the most wonderful evening.
We're glad you could join us.
I'm glad too, darling.
But I'm gonna see you tomorrow night at the fair.
Oh, by the way, why don't you ask Karen? - Karen? - Yes, the surrogate mother.
Oh, Karen is busy, I think.
Uh, but I'll make sure that she knows she was invited.
All right.
- Would you like to dance, Mother? - Mm.
I'd love to.
- And so? - What do you want from me? What do I have that you could possibly want? I have a little assignment for you.
I want the minutes from the board meetings at Denver-Carrington.
And I want you to bring them to me tomorrow at the fair.
Are you kidding? You're asking me to spy.
And any memos or notes regarding Blake Carrington's divestiture.
What if I say no? Then I suppose you'll have to weigh the consequences of what you know against what I know.
That's blackmail.
You're wrong, Dana.
That's life.
The budget on the Grodin Project appears to be in order.
Oh, and Leslie, dear, please inform Sales and Marketing that Mrs.
Colby strongly requests that they cut down on their longish lunch hours or their fat expense accounts will be part of the past, heh, as it were.
That's not how I would say it, Leslie.
I thought you'd be gone changing for the fair.
So that you could come into my office and have a little fun playing me? I know I shouldn't have.
I'm sorry.
No, you shouldn't, actually.
Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery, Leslie.
It's actually a sign of tremendous insecurity.
Well, I guess if the truth were known, I'd much rather be you than me.
That's because you haven't reached your goals yet.
Now, if you are going to one day be an executive here, perhaps even my personal assistant, you've got to learn how to dress the part.
For example, your skirt.
- It's too long, isn't it? - Yes.
It's much too long.
Now, Paris says that skirts are up this year.
You've got to raise them and show those pretty knees.
Heh.
- Up, up, up.
- Heh, like this? - Yes, like that.
Well, look at that.
We seem to be wearing the same bracelet.
Except that mine costs, uh, $24,000.
I admired it so.
It's a copy of yours.
Imitation again, Leslie.
Always go for the real thing.
But yours cost $24,000.
I mean, that's nearly a year of my salary.
For now, it is.
Take it off.
Thank you.
Now, put this on.
- How's that feel? - Oh, it feels wonderful.
- Yes.
- Thank you letting me try it.
No, no, no.
I want you to keep it.
- What? - Yes.
It's a present from me.
It's a taste of your future.
See you at the fair.
- I told you, I can't see you tonight.
- Look, I'm coming over.
I won't be here.
Steven and I are going out.
I need a chance to explain about yesterday.
You don't owe me any explanations.
I just think it's better if we don't see each other for a while.
Look, don't say that.
Sammy Jo, I have to see you.
Well, do I look as ridiculous as I feel? Sorry.
- I've gotta go.
- Sammy Jo, wait.
- Everything all right? - Yeah, everything's fine.
And your outfit is definitely you.
Definitely.
What a beauty.
Let the fair begin! Blake.
Oh, I'm so glad you could come.
Alexis.
And Krystle, a little page boy.
How cute.
Oh, you know Sean, don't you? We've been looking forward to this evening.
Enjoy it.
Thank you, I'm sure we will.
Make sure your staff is attentive.
I don't wanna see anyone waiting for food.
Don't worry about a thing, Miss Carrington.
I've done hundreds of these affairs.
All I'm concerned about is this one.
Oh, look at that.
Isn't it amazing? How does he do that? Oh, that's so dangerous.
I'd hate to do that.
- Your Majesty.
- Yes? I hope you're not gonna have my head for this.
We'd like you to indulge us in a little sport.
A little sport? In front of all these people? - Pick a number.
- Oh, sounds intriguing.
What for? - A struggle to the finish.
- Oh.
Oh, no.
I promise to be good.
Candied apples.
Who'll buy my candied apples.
I don't believe my eyes.
Alexis.
Now's your big chance.
Oh.
Ha, ha.
Don't tempt me, Dex.
Ladies and gentlemen, it appears the lady has no confidence in her ability to bring me down.
Some balls for the queen.
Oh, yes, I do.
I've done it before.
All right, everybody, stand back.
There she goes.
One! Ooh.
Two! Ha, ha, almost got him there.
And third time lucky.
Aw.
Oh, well.
- Close.
Maybe next time.
Is that what took so long? I mean I mean, it looks beautiful.
In the middle of getting dressed, I guess I started to think.
- About what? - Us.
And the treadmill we're on.
I'm not happy with the arrangement either.
Then I suggest we do something about it.
I'm glad you said that.
After the campaign I don't wanna wait until then to file for divorce.
File for divorce? I thought we were talking about giving it another try.
Then I guess we haven't been listening to each other.
Once again.
But why now? Because we have to get on with our lives.
Have you talked to Blake? Daddy would like for us to live happily ever after, - but it's not his decision.
- Or mine.
I think in a lot of ways, it is.
You're just not willing to admit it.
Well, it must be nice to have all the answers.
The only thing I know for sure is we both deserve more than we're able to give each other.
Well, we'd better get going.
I hate to miss a good party, even after all this fun.
Ladies and gentlemen, try your luck.
- Steven, darling, you look wonderful.
- Hello.
What a great costume.
Hello, Sammy Jo.
Alexis.
I'm late, Steven, and it's my turn in the kissing booth.
How appropriate.
I'm expecting you to be very charitable tonight.
See you in a little while.
Mother, why do you find it so hard to be nice to Sammy Jo? Force of habit, I suppose, darling.
I'm sorry.
I really will try and be nice to her, I promise.
Thank you.
Terrific party.
- Well, that remains to be seen.
I told you, I have everything under control.
Yes, but it's not here yet.
Trust me, darling, everything is going exactly as we planned.
Good.
Excuse me a minute.
Wonderful.
There he is.
Amazing.
Gives me chills.
Sorry.
- Hello.
- Hi.
I have to apologise to Mother for being late.
It's lovely to see you too, Fallon.
- Jeff, I wanted to talk to you.
- No.
- Where's the bar? - You just passed it.
Kisses.
Five dollars a kiss.
Thank you.
Get your kisses here.
Oh, thank you.
Generous.
Oh, come on.
Care to try your luck, Mr.
Carrington? Yes, yes, why not? I used to be pretty good at this game.
- Very good.
Let's try again.
- Ha, ha.
All right.
This happens to be one of my favourite games.
Well, go right ahead.
I've had more practise on this side of the booth.
Oh.
- Care to try again, Blake? - All right.
Ha, ha, must be my lucky day.
Luck has very little to do with most games.
Again? - Mm-hm.
- But this time, let's make it a little more interesting.
How about your ring? - Well - Worried about your diamond? Sometimes the hand really is quicker than the eye.
Sometimes, but, uh not always.
There you are, Fallon.
Have you seen Adam? No, but it looks like the rest of Denver is here.
Yes, it does, doesn't it? That's what I'd hoped for.
But I'm really worried about Adam.
This was an evening when I wanted all my children to be here.
Where have you been? I went to visit the maternity ward to see what it was like.
But why now? We were supposed to be at the party an hour ago.
I guess having this baby is more important to me than your mother's party.
Well, it is to me too, but it's not gonna be born tonight.
Well, Adam, to tell you the truth, I don't feel too terrific.
Can't we just spend a quiet evening alone? Dana, you know how important this party is to Alexis.
Go without me.
She's not going to mind.
Nonsense.
Can't you at least try and get along with her? I did try.
I went to dinner last night and that was a disaster.
I was there too.
I didn't think it was so bad.
You're making her out to be some monster.
You know, she's not.
Adam, I don't wanna go.
That was lovely, but, um Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
The meter's running.
Come on, it was better than that.
Thank you.
Oh, look at that.
You're going to do what? Well, all I know is that I drew a number and Alexis drew the matching number.
And you're gonna engage in a struggle to the finish? That's what it says.
Get your hands off me.
What are you doing? Isn't that Josh Harris? - I got enough money for 10 tickets.
He's the quarterback.
There's that guy.
Plays on Steven's team.
Hey.
Hey, would you just get your hands off of me? He looks terrible.
- Sammy Jo? Sammy Jo, l There you are.
I think so too.
- Yeah, I knew that you would be here.
I think you've had too much to drink, Harris.
Me? No, boss.
I don't even touch the stuff.
That's a nice suit This is a kissing booth.
Why isn't he in a costume? That's what I wanna know.
There.
How much will that buy? I will get in my costume.
Hey.
Hey.
That's enough.
Not from the woman who's gonna be my bride.
I want you out of here.
Hey, boss, look, I'm on my own time.
I do what I want.
Not with Sammy Jo, you don't.
Hey, just take your hands off.
Leave me alone.
Get your hands off me! Hey! I could have handled him myself, Steven.
Could you? Harris said you're gonna marry him.
Is he out of his mind or is there something you haven't told me? I don't wanna marry Josh, but I do think I can help him.
He's out of control.
I'm sorry this happened tonight.
For the first time in a long time, - I thought that you and I might - Sammy Jo.
You're wrong about Harris.
And you're wrong about me.
You can't change either one of us into what you want.
She just isn't feeling very well.
Twenty-four hour flu, I guess.
She did seem a bit quiet at dinner last night.
I hope she's going to be all right.
- Alexis, hello.
I'm sorry I'm late.
- Are you okay? Well, you seem to have made a miraculous recovery.
No.
I just realised how important it was for me to be here.
Well, that's very brave of you.
I hope the party's not gonna be too much for you.
Excuse me, darling.
- Thank you.
- You were right.
I knew that as soon as you walked out the door.
My darling, you're shaking.
You are coming down with something.
No, I'm fine.
I love you.
I love you too.
I want you to always remember that.
My lords and ladies, your attention please.
We now present the special event of the evening.
And these two lovely ladies have drawn the winning numbers.
Ah.
This is ridiculous.
I knew I shouldn't have drawn that number 13.
Well, you could back out.
Oh, you know me better than that, Krystle.
- Are you ready? - Yes.
- Yes.
- Get a good grip on the rope.
Then Wait for it.
Begin! Pull harder, Krystle, we're betting on you.
Pull.
Pull that rope.
You can get her in there.
Come on, Alexis.
Pull harder.
Come on, we're betting on you.
Don't let her get the better of you.
Come on, you can do it.
Pull it.
Pull harder.
Come on.
Alexis, go.
Alexis, come on.
Pull harder.
Pull harder.
You can do it.
Almost got her.
Oh, my.
You're stronger than I imagined.
Ah.
Never underestimate your opponent, Krystle.
Congratulations.
You won this round, but the night is still young.
Well, ahem, you look like you're having about as much fun as I am.
Mauled by a quarterback and criticised by an ex-husband.
My kind of evening.
Well, it hasn't turned out the way I planned either.
Fallon wants a divorce.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Hmm.
Does it ever get any easier? You're asking the wrong person.
The more I try to simplify my life, the more complicated it gets.
I really believed that if I kept my family together, that would be enough.
Oh.
Well, living under the same roof isn't enough.
We both found that out.
Then why is it so hard to let go? Now you're asking the wrong person.
Well, this must be a full-time job for you, Fallon.
Keeping up appearances.
But then again, heh, what else do you know how to do, hmm? You know, I just find it amazing that you and Alexis could even remotely be related.
Poor Leslie.
You have no idea how obvious you are.
Look at yourself.
You may see Alexis, but everyone else sees a pathetic imitation.
You have no identity, Leslie.
You've tried to take one woman's style and another woman's husband, and you've failed at both.
Come one, come all.
Nobody's dunked me yet.
Oh.
Oh, my God.
I didn't mean to.
I'm so sorry.
Well, I guess there's no one else I'd rather be dunked by.
But, madam, you do not know your own strength.
How does he do that? Now, there's your apple a day for you.
Ha, ha.
One of these times, he's gonna bite into one of those pink balls.
Dana.
I haven't seen you all evening.
- Are you avoiding me? - Now, why would I do that? Did you bring what I asked? - No.
- That wasn't very smart.
I will not be blackmailed.
Well, perhaps we should discuss this with Adam.
Please don't do this.
Adam, your wife just accused me of trying to blackmail her.
I see.
What deep, dark secret have you discovered? But if I tell you, I won't get what I want from Dana.
Now, will I? What do you want from my beautiful bride, hmm? Shall we tell him? Well? A small favour to have your charming wife join me on the dance floor.
I think you should give the gentleman exactly what he wants.
Don't fight me, Dana.
I want that information.
And the money that you've all so graciously donated tonight will make it possible to enlarge the Harmon Springs Drug Rehab Centre.
And, of course, none of this would have been possible without the help of our hostess, Alexis Colby Rowan.
Alexis Colby Rowan.
And Mrs.
Krystle Carrington.
Who, along with her husband, Blake, the next governor of Colorado.
Their continued support has been invaluable.
In fact, we have a short film tonight of their most recent visit to the centre.
May we begin, please? Mr.
And Mrs.
Blake Carrington are shown here on a recent tour of the Hampton Springs Drub Rehabilitation Centre.
Blake Carrington, a candidate for governor of Colorado, is spearheading a drive to create a state-wide task force on substance abuse.
The Harmon Springs Drug Rehabilitation Centre is not the only place Blake Carrington has recently visited.
Blake Carrington often takes time off from his busy campaign schedule for a little rest and relaxation out of town at Cora Van Heusen's house of prostitution.
Stop that film! What the devil is going on here? I have no idea.
