NCIS Los Angeles s08e12 Episode Script
Kulinda
1 (indistinct crowd conversations) COUNCILMAN: Good morning.
Today we celebrate the new Los Angeles.
(applause and cheering) This generation, our generation.
We held our phones in our hands and we thought, by using social media, we were making a difference.
We became addicts, getting high off the followers.
And we all know what Jay said you can do with your hashtags and retweets.
(laughing and applause) But you you were the ones who put down your phones, got into the streets and met your neighbors, cleaned the beaches and the parks.
You fed your brothers and sisters who did not have the means to feed themselves.
You made L.
A.
more beautiful.
You made L.
A.
shine.
(cheering, applause) Thank you.
Thank you for your service.
So how'd I do? MAN: Good party, sir.
If this political thing doesn't pan out, you've a career in event planning waiting.
(tires screeching) Eyes up.
What's going on? Sir, we need you in the vehicle now.
Bomb! (car alarms blaring) (tires screeching) Second car! Shooter! (tires squealing) Newton.
NCIS: LA 8x12 Kulinda (panting) (knocking on door) Good morning.
Morning.
I got up early so I thought I'd bring you some breakfast.
Wow.
Thank you.
So I got bagels, but then I didn't know if you were gonna like bagels, but at that point I was already committed to this whole carb genre, so I got donuts and then (laughs) You know what? This is weird.
Um, me barging in with all this food.
Um, happy breakfast.
I'm just gonna go.
(laughing): Stop.
Please.
Let's eat.
I'm not usually like this.
I don't want to come off as The girl who only eats carbs? (chuckles) I know that I was the one that said that I needed some time.
I just moved here, and I wanted to take things slow.
But But? (chuckles) Am I just bugging you? God, I am that girl.
(softly): I also got croissants.
What do we got? Huh, huh, huh? What do you think? (whistles) SAM: See what happens when you practice.
Yeah, I'm what they call a natural shooter, so it doesn't matter if the lights are on, lights are off, eyes open, eyes closed-- when I shoot, bad guys go ouch.
(laughs) Yeah, it's a good thing I'm not a bad guy.
(laughs) So, how are things back home? Stuff back to normal? Yeah.
You know, for sure.
I mean, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to.
No, I mean, things are good, you know? Good.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm not gonna lie, things aren't great, but whatever.
Well, like I said, it's none of my business, I just thought if you wanted to talk, then Well, it's no big deal, it's just the things that we used to do together-- you know, the running and the hiking and the surfing-- we're just, you know, we're not doing 'em together.
No, it just takes some time, she was laid up.
She'll get those muscles firing.
No, it's not that.
She can still do it.
I mean, not the surfing part, but the running and the hiking, she just doesn't want to do it she doesn't want to do it with me.
She'll come around.
Yeah, I know.
I guess.
I know it's not my place, but can I give you a little advice? Yeah, for sure.
Don't bring it up.
None of it.
The biking, the hiking She needs some time to get there.
It has to come from her, it can't come from you.
Think granite.
Be granite.
Your rock-like support during these strenuous times in these storms of life, you'll-you'll be like the Frank to her Ocean.
Yeah, now you're just messing with me.
A little bit.
A little bit.
ERIC: Hey, guys, you're needed up in Ops.
All right, we're on our way up.
Uh, I saw on the cameras that drill that you guys were doing.
I'm wondering if you think I'm ready to start shooting in the dark? Well, you should probably talk to Callen about that, huh? Really? Oh, yeah, he can't wait to walk you through those drills.
Awesome, a one-on-one with Callen.
Yes! I am so all over this.
(chuckles) Where's Granger? I don't know.
He said he wouldn't be in today.
Let's get going.
NELL: There was an attempt made on City Councilman Tony Hill's life this morning.
A bomb was thrown from a car that then sped away.
ERIC: Directly after the explosion, there was a second attack.
Wait, so the guy that was shot, that was Hill's bodyguard? Yes, that is Mark Newton.
He was pronounced dead on scene.
SAM: It's pretty unusual for a city councilman to have a bodyguard.
NELL: It's still unclear if there was an ongoing threat or just a one-time occurrence.
ERIC: The other guard, Junior Sancho, was able to secure Councilman Hill.
Both Sancho and Newton worked for Kulinda Tactical Security, a high-end private security firm.
Fun fact: "Kulinda" actually means "to protect" in Swahili.
It kind of works out.
CALLEN: Look, I get that Councilman Hill's done a lot of good for L.
A.
, but why did we pull this case? Well, the victim was a navy reservist.
And the real reason? The councilman's father once played football with a man who is now a U.
S.
senator.
So, Hetty got a phone call.
There it is.
I want to take a look at that SUV.
It is still being processed on scene.
All right, Sam and I will check that out.
Deeks, why don't you take Nell, go talk to Councilman Hill.
On it.
Okay.
Thank you.
And you were outside his house for a while? Yeah, a couple hours.
Granger never showed.
He said he was gonna be home all night watching the game.
Yeah, maybe his plans changed.
He's been missing for three nights.
Plans don't change that much.
He's been looking pretty rough lately.
Something's up.
Think him and Hetty are working on something off-the-books? That wouldn't surprise me.
(sighs) I don't like that he missed work, that's not like him.
I'll check in on him again tonight.
G it looks like they taped some dynamite to a bottle of rum.
It's low-tech, but it's highly effective.
Big boom, lots of fire.
Okay, so the first car drops the explosive.
And it causes the bodyguards to scramble with Hill.
Which pushes them out into the open.
Second car has the shooter.
All right, so the car was right here when the shooter unloaded.
(automatic gunfire) LAPD said the first bodyguard took Hill over there for cover from the explosion.
Second bodyguard was here when he was shot.
That doesn't make any sense.
The shooter's got line of sight towards Hill, but then he pivots back to Newton.
Could have wanted to kill the bodyguard so he could, uh, kidnap him easy.
Yeah, but after Newton goes down, the shooter never fires again.
Maybe Hill wasn't the target.
Maybe he was here to kill Newton.
One, two.
One, three.
One, two.
One, two.
One.
One, two.
MAN: Councilman, you have visitors.
Catch.
Thanks.
Sure.
(indistinct chatter, music playing) I'm Councilman Hill.
You must be with NCIS.
I was told you'd be joining the investigation.
Detective Deeks, LAPD, this is Special Agent Jones.
Hi.
So, uh, you get right back after it, huh? No days off.
Can't afford to.
Every moment these kids are in here, they're not on the streets.
It's a game of moments, you know? I do, actually.
I do.
I gave LAPD my statement.
I know it's early, but any suspects named? We're still conducting the investigation.
Sir, may I ask what made you hire bodyguards? We've done a lot of great things, a lot of changes.
Many people are happy, but it's also created some vocal enemies for me.
Hmm.
Actually, we have reason to believe that you were not the intended target.
That the scenario may have been set up to take out Mr.
Newton.
Are you serious? They wanted to kill Mark? Were you close with Mark Newton? (sighs) Not real close, but he was a good man.
Everyone at KTS was great.
Harold Irvin made his company a a beacon for the community.
I want to help, but I have no idea why anyone would want to kill Mark Newton.
Fair enough.
Thank you for your time.
All right, thanks.
Thanks.
Get back in there.
Hmm.
Kensi? Hey.
No, you don't have to stop working out.
You're fine.
No.
Okay.
It's great to see you.
Yeah, you, too.
I didn't know you'd be here today.
That makes two of us.
(chuckles) So, uh, is this your first official day back? No.
Not yet.
How about you, you you're working today? Uh, yeah.
Hetty said she might have something for me.
Nice.
Yeah.
You have a wonderful team, Kensi.
I do.
Yeah.
I know.
(chuckles) Kens, you you know I'm not try I have to go to physical therapy soon.
So I'm gonna start my workout.
Sure.
Do you need any help with the No.
I'm I'm okay.
Thank you.
Hey.
Anna, they need you up in Ops.
Got it.
See you, Kensi.
Bye, see you.
Kensi? Kensi! Hi.
Hey, hi.
(chuckles) Hey.
(grunts) I didn't know you were, uh, gonna be starting back today.
I'm not.
Oh.
I'm just working out.
Okay.
Well, you're back, you're not back.
Whatever.
(chuckles) I'll, uh It was good to see you.
Thank you.
You, too.
Mm-hmm.
Have a good workout.
Yep! It's nice coming in from this side of the building.
Variety's the spice of life.
You told Anna it was okay to park in my spot, didn't you? I did not.
But you didn't tell her it was not okay to park in my spot.
I did not.
Hey.
We have a new lead on the shooting.
Anna's waiting up in Ops.
Actually, it's just Callen.
Sam, Hetty has something else for you.
Where is Hetty? I don't know.
Uh, all she said this morning was that she had one last card to play.
She always does.
What's up, Nell? So, LAPD's Robbery Homicide has new Intel on KTS.
Mm-hmm.
Apparently, they've been hired muscle to several L.
A.
criminal organizations.
So, they're using their legit private security clients as a front.
Mm-hmm.
Although RHD hasn't been able to verify this.
Hmm.
Well, if that's true, the link could be what got Newton killed.
Yes.
And Hetty wants you on the inside.
Okay.
Am I backstopped? Mm-hmm.
Under your own name.
Rear Admiral Stern has placed a call saying that you're leaving NCIS and that you're in need of a new job.
Got it.
Uh, Sam? I've looked at the résumés.
Mm-hmm.
KTS is filled with SEALs, MARSOC, Delta.
All dangerous, all capable.
Then I should fit right in.
Mm.
And Sam.
You know that if anyone is dirty within KTS, they'll be suspicious of you.
These guys will not be afraid to come after you.
Hey, guys.
Anna.
Aloha, wahine.
Eric just got a hit on one of the cars from the shooting.
We're gonna go check it out.
Oh, where is Sam? Uh, he's going undercover in KTS.
You two are on Overwatch.
Got it.
Got it.
Okay, Eric.
We're in the plaza directly across from KTS.
ERIC: Copy that.
Sam will be arriving shortly.
Got it.
So, now will you give it a rest about my driving? I mean, the jury's still out, but I will concede that we got down here with all of our limbs intact.
Which, you know, is nice.
Yeah.
I'll take what I can get.
But I am getting my head molded to get that custom helmet.
(laughs) I got to say, digging the little bonsai trees.
Oh, those aren't bonsai.
Oh, no? No.
They're trees trimmed in a very specific way.
It's called niwaki.
Okay.
Now, you're just making stuff up.
No.
Scout's honor.
You're no Boy Scout.
What, so I can't be down with their honor system? (laughing): Okay.
Fine.
How is it that, all of a sudden, you're this expert in small Japanese trees? Because I actually spent a summer down here in high school, working with my buddy, Matt Akagi.
Okay Look.
I don't know what you're setting me up for right now, but I'm not buying it.
In fact, his grandfather, Mm-hmm? Mr.
Akagi, planted all those trees for the city.
Mr.
Akagi.
Yeah.
Really? Yeah.
It was in the 1940s, Mr.
Akagi moved his whole family down here, 'cause Leimert Park was one of the only places in L.
A.
that Japanese people could buy houses.
Mm.
And the punch line is? What? This is real? You really took care of these gardens for a summer? Scout's honor.
Guys.
Sam's pulling up now.
All right.
Thanks, Eric.
Mr.
Irvin.
How are you? Sam Hanna.
Hello, Sam.
Uh, first of all, I want to say I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
He was a good man.
A very good man.
Well, I'm here to talk to you about the You like coffee, Sam? Yes, sir.
Every morning I get a cup from the shop down the street.
Let's walk and talk, kill two birds.
What do you say? I could always use a good cup of coffee.
Didn't say anything about it being good.
(chuckles) Admiral Stern doesn't make it a habit of calling me to recommend men.
Yeah, well, he has a little too much time on his hands since, uh, the divorce.
You've built an incredible business here.
We're fortunate.
KTS is highly profitable.
We could be in Century City or Beverly Hills, but it's important we stay in the community.
I agree.
Why's it important to you? I hire strong, successful, good people.
The types of men and women that the youth in the neighborhood need to see, need to meet.
Mm-hmm.
Men like you, Sam.
That's who I hope these kids out here aspire to be.
KTS is active in the community.
Absolutely.
School supply day, sneaker day, book day.
Few more.
Lots of our high profile clients, when they find out what we do, they help us out.
SAM: That's great.
Get that credit card ready, Mr.
Irvin.
Those LeBron Soldiers are as good as mine.
You get chemistry up to an "A"? Nah, he's still at a B-minus, Mr.
I.
Yeah, but we have an exam on Friday that I'm gonna crush.
B-minuses don't buy LeBron Soldiers.
(laughter) Sam, the admiral tells me you're looking to make a change.
You think KTS is a place you'd fit in? Most definitely, sir.
Let's give it a try.
Either of us doesn't think it's gonna work out, no harm, no foul.
Thank you for the opportunity.
I get why Eric lost the drive-by car down here.
Yeah.
Lot of warehouses and garages to ditch it in.
Yeah.
Hey, this weekend, how about How about what? (laughs) No.
You know what, never mind.
No.
Now you got to tell me.
No.
Uh-huh.
I'll just go another time.
What's up? Nothing.
Look, I-I just realized that this is totally not your kind of thing.
And we are definitely not at a point of our relationship where we feel bound to do a bunch of stuff we really don't want to do just because we feel obligated, which-- side note-- I'm really not good at doing, so Maybe I'll surprise you.
Look.
Where do you want to go? Carlsbad.
Carlsbad? Like near San Diego, Carlsbad? Yes.
And I told you What is What is in Carlsbad? Really? Like Like Carlsbad itself is not a deal breaker? You do know it's, like, two hours away.
Look, if you want to go to Carlsbad this weekend, let's go.
(chuckles) Okay.
All right.
Okay.
Now will you tell me what's in Carlsbad? LEGOLAND and an outlet mall.
LEGOLAND? Hey, man.
Sam Hanna.
Supposed to be working the detail with you guys today.
Have a seat.
That's Sancho.
I'm Byron.
Good to meet you.
SAM: Yeah.
Same here.
Look.
Guys, I, uh I heard about your brother.
I'm sorry for your loss.
(sighs) Thanks, man.
Newt was a great dude.
SANCHO: Okay, everybody, listen up.
Today we've got Poppy Gold, a YouTube star doing an appearance at an art gallery.
She's got 1.
7 million subscribers and a good 10,000 of them are solid haters.
Now, her management says they have had threats at past appearances, so be alert.
But mainly, we're looking at crowd control scenarios.
Linder, you'll be in the Chase SUV parked in the alley behind the store.
Roberts, you've got the principal's SUV, doing the drop-off.
Hanna, you're with me, and Byron, inside.
Copy that.
We'll meet in the parking lot in an hour to pick up the client.
Any questions? We're good.
Let's roll.
DEEKS: All right, what do you got, Eric? So, the first time I ran backgrounds on the KTS guys, nothing out of the ordinary came up.
Right.
But you didn't call us to tell us you got more of nothing, right? Right.
I think Junior Sancho is in a gang.
Or was in a gang.
Can you un-gang yourself? Absolutely.
Junior Sancho was arrested three times as a minor, which is why I didn't see it at first.
L.
A.
Sheriffs had him listed as "gang affiliated" with the Arlington Treys.
And then he enlisted in the marines.
Decorated service record, honorable discharge.
Looks like he left gang life behind him.
Or he didn't.
Where you going, Sancho? Nowhere.
Him and his partner must have been really close.
Looks like he took it hard.
Huh.
I wish I could say he's usually cooler, but he's always wound tight.
Hmm.
Never leaves before detail, though.
Well, we've got an hour.
Maybe he was just hungry.
Nah, not Sancho.
An hour to go, (scoffs) he'd be checking and triple-checking plans, equipment, vehicles.
Hmm.
Maybe he just needed to clear his head.
Hmm, maybe.
Hey, our gym's state of the art.
I wanted to get a lift in before we got to go, if you want to join.
All right, I'll catch up.
Cool.
Let me call my wife.
Ah.
I didn't know I was gonna have a job so quick.
(both chuckle) (quietly): Deeks, Nell, Sancho just went out of the back door.
DEEKS: Yeah, we just saw him.
All right, we're following him.
Uh Quick call.
Yeah, I left a message.
She wasn't home.
Let's go check out that gym.
Cool.
I sit back and I wonder if the man gonna call my number Like, will I rise or just fall under? We got Harold Irvin.
Mm-hmm.
Put it up.
Sound's coming in.
I'm livin' life to the fullest NELL: Ooh.
That's loud.
That's because he's blasting music the second he started talking.
This guy doesn't miss a beat.
So I keep it funky like Parliament (engine starts) DEEKS: All right, we're gonna stick with Sancho.
Eric, you keep tabs on Ervin in that Ford Raptor.
ERIC: I'm on it.
Hey, maybe they didn't ditch the cars from the drive-by shooting.
Maybe they're chopping them up instead.
(power tool whirs in distance) Hey.
(camera clicks) Eric, I'm sending you a photo.
Cross-reference it with the crime lab photos from LAPD.
I'm on it.
Doing it now.
It's a match to the shooter's car.
(power tool whirs) (door squeaks) (indistinct chatter in distance) In position.
Two guys in the center.
On my mark.
CALLEN: One, two Federal agents! Put your tools down.
Put your hands behind your back slowly.
Look at that, the cars from the drive-by.
CALLEN: Doing time for chopping up cars, that's easy-- you make a move towards us, that's life.
They look too smart to go away for life.
Right? Yeah, we'll see.
Here's what's gonna happen.
If you're smart, you put your hands behind your head, and you move to us.
If you're dumb, you stay where you are.
Let's go.
Right here.
Turn around.
One out of two is not bad.
Don't do anything stupid.
(grunts) (automatic gunfire) (both grunting) Have you ever been to LEGOLAND? Firas Barmuk is the guy who paid them to chop up the two cars in the shooting that killed Newton.
That name sounds Syrian.
Uh, yeah, Barmuk was born here, but he has ties to a Syrian money-laundering group that's been making a big push into L.
A.
lately.
Why would a money-laundering group want to kill Newton? What's the link? Oh, well, there's not a link, per Se, more like a like a threat.
Like a thin threat.
Kind of like a spider web kind of thing that CALLEN: Eric.
Focusing.
Anyway, I wasn't able to link Barmuk to the victim, Newton, but I did find this.
LAPD arrested this man, Sayid Lajani, in a sting.
Now, he's part of that same Syrian money-laundering group, but get this.
He was arrested with members of the Arlington Treys.
That's the same gang that Sancho at KTS was a member of before he enlisted in the marines.
If KTS was working with the Arlington Treys, and they had a deal with Syria that went sideways The Syrians would want revenge.
Yeah, they decide to go after KTS because they were the muscle behind the Treys.
And they kill Newton.
Hold on, guys.
I was searching through KTS' phone records, and huh.
It looks like Newton, Sancho and Firas Barmuk were all in contact with one man.
His name's D'Andre Linton.
What do we know about him? No arrests, but he was kicked out of his high school a couple years ago for running a sports gambling operation.
D'Andre could be the middleman.
Do you have an address? Sending it to your phones now.
Nice work, Eric.
It's just what I do.
(indistinct chatter) Must be hard getting back to work right after everything happened.
Wasn't hard.
I asked to be put on the schedule today.
Mm.
Okay.
But if you ever need someone to talk to Look I don't trust you, Hanna.
Newton gets killed, and you come waltzing right in.
Don't feel right.
Byron, how you looking? My section's good to go.
All right, Roberts is circling off Melrose.
We're live in five minutes.
All right.
There it is, 4118.
Federal agents.
D'Andre Linton, we'd like to ask you some questions.
D'Andre ain't there.
He left.
Shh.
Come here.
What's your name? Joey.
Who are you? Ah.
I'm Anna.
I'm a federal agent.
Can you tell me when did D'Andre leave? When those men came for him.
They the ones that busted his door.
But D'Andre's fast.
He ran.
And when did that happen? Why are you asking about D'Andre? You like him, don't you? He doesn't treat me like a kid.
He gives me his old kicks.
They don't fit yet, but they gonna.
I clean 'em up real good.
Do you know where he might have gone? Man, I'm talking to the lady here.
Joey, can you tell me if this was one of the men that came for D'Andre? Yeah, that's him.
He's the one that kicked the door.
Thank you, Joey.
It's a big help.
You're not gonna hurt D'Andre, are you? No.
You done talking to the lady? Maybe.
What's it to you? (chuckles) Thank you.
(pop music playing, crowd shouting indistinctly) Hey.
Hey, fam.
You're the best, Poppy.
Thanks, fam.
Hey, want me to sign 'em, fam? You don't even remember, do you? What? You asked for these, so I sent them to you for free.
And then you do a 30-minute slam blog about how my jeans are lame.
It's not my fault your designs are last-minute.
My entire company went bankrupt because of you.
(alarmed cries, gasps) Stop it! You okay? Yeah, thank you.
And that's why you hire the pros to watch your ass, fam.
(sighs) MAN: Yeah, Poppy! (cheers and applause) Yeah, Poppy.
NELL: Man, these KTS guys are pros.
Fast seamless moves.
If they are working with the Arlington Treys That is muy no bueno.
SÃ.
Although they did just avoid what could have been the next Pigeon Dunk riot.
I'm sorry, what? Really? Respect the history.
You got to look that up.
Although, what I don't understand is all of this.
Like, what is that? So-so she films herself shopping, and then, what, people show up to take a selfie, like she's Beyoncé? No, she doesn't film herself shopping.
She does "unboxings.
" Wh-What is What the hell's "unboxing"? Maybe you should look it up.
Oh Oh, touché, Nellasaurus.
So she orders clothes and shoes to her house, and when they arrive, she takes them out of the box, films herself talking about the clothes and the shoes.
Hmm.
I feel like I'm more confused after you explained it.
- It's really not that complicated - No, no, no.
No more words.
'Cause you know why? There are some things that Deeks does not need to understand.
What do you got, Eric? ERIC: Callen, I just got a hit on Harold Irvin's credit card at a parking meter.
He's parked on Degnan next to the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center.
We're on our way.
Have Deeks and Nell stay on Sam.
Copy that.
(footfalls nearby) (footfalls approaching) ANNA: Federal agents.
CALLEN: Drop the gun! D'ANDRE: Don't come any closer! Not any closer! D'Andre, put down the gun.
Please, just stop.
Is Irvin here with you? No.
I need you to listen to me, D'Andre, very carefully.
You cannot raise that gun, do you hear me? You put your gun away, please.
I can't do that.
Drop the gun, D'Andre.
(inhales sharply) D'Andre, look at me.
Look at me.
I need you to set down that gun.
Okay? Don't raise it.
You set it down, and no one gets hurt, I promise you.
Just got to trust me.
This whole thing is my fault.
It's my fault.
(sobbing) (sighs deeply) Mr.
Newton and Mr.
Sancho, they're like my big brothers.
Why'd Barmuk come after Newton? 'Cause of me.
This is all on me.
Mr.
Newton was just trying to protect me.
I-I screwed up, I needed money.
I agreed to be a lookout on a cash run for those Syrian dudes.
When Mr.
Newton found out what I was gonna do, he went to Barmuk.
Told him I was out, told him to stay away from me.
When was that? Two days ago.
Then they killed him today.
Barmuk ain't stopping, he came after me today.
Why did you run here? Mr.
Newton and Mr.
Sancho said this place is safe.
If I ever needed a place to lay low, to come here.
Oh, that sounds like some good guys to have in your corner.
Yeah, man.
All those guys ever did was protect me, and it got Mr.
Newton killed.
What about Irvin? Today was the first day I met Mr.
Irvin.
Sancho told him about you.
About what happened.
Yeah.
Now Irvin's after Barmuk.
D'Andre? I think Mr.
Irvin's gonna go kill him.
He's gonna kill Barmuk.
CALLEN: Yeah, I'm here with D'Andre now.
So Sancho and Byron are clean.
KTS wasn't working with the Arlington Treys? No, and Irvin knows that Barmuk killed Newton.
Irvin's gonna take him out.
Yeah.
Where? D'Andre thinks Barmuk's probably laying low at his girlfriend's place on 6th Avenue.
Anna and I are about ten minutes out.
I alerted LAPD.
All right, Nell and I are on it.
I'm going now.
(Barmuk grunting) SAM: Irvin! Irvin! Stop right there, Sam.
Irvin.
Where you going, Barmuk? (sirens wailing) This doesn't concern you.
Irvin.
Irvin.
This lowlife killed a good man.
Shot him in the street.
Why does he deserve any better than what Newton got? (tires screech) I got this, I got this.
Hold up.
He's with us.
OFFICER: All right.
Irvin, throw the gun away.
This man is not worth it.
Yeah, but doing him would be worth it to me.
Look.
It's not right.
Brother! Look around you.
Look at all these people.
Look at these kids.
Showing these people what's right, being an example, that's who you are.
That's how you've lived.
Right until this moment.
That's exactly what they've seen you as, an example.
Don't undo all that.
Don't change.
Be that light.
Be that beacon.
For them.
Put the gun down.
Put it down, Irvin.
(grunts) Come on, all right, all right, all right, all right.
(indistinct radio transmission) Irvin.
All right.
Hey, uh, Kensi.
- Hi, Nate.
- Hi.
What are you doing here? Hetty asked me to come in, so Cool, did she have an assignment for you? Yep.
She tell you what it is? Yeah.
And? (chuckles) I'm your assignment.
(softly): Yeah.
Uh here.
Wow.
It's a good thing I came in tonight to work out again.
How did that go? Good.
Great, actually.
I mean, I feel strong, really strong.
That's good.
Yeah.
I'm ready to come back, you know? It's time.
Yeah.
Why rush it, though? I mean (chuckles) Right? I don't feel like I'm rushing it.
Kensi, I read your file.
You suffered a serious injury, and I just want to make sure that Yeah, no, and I battled back, you know? And I did it and I'm here.
And sometimes the body heals faster than the mind.
Have you had any anxiety about coming back to work? No, because I'm ready.
And there's really only one way to find out for sure.
That's not really how we do things here.
We? What do you mean by "we"? Now it's your decision to make? Yes.
All right.
What do I need to do to prove it to you? Just talk to me.
What do you want to know? How are you really doing? You know, with everything that happened to you? I'm grateful.
I lived.
I could've died and I got a second chance at life.
You did.
Not to say that I'm not frustrated sometimes and even maybe, like, a little bit depressed, but, I mean, who wouldn't be after a situation like that? I mean, I've done everything that my physical therapist told me to do, and will I be back to being as good as I was before? I have no idea.
And you're okay with that? Well, I will be 100%.
I will be, at some point.
And what if you're not? That's not really an option.
Any doubts you might have about your physical ability can affect your decision making.
I never said I was having any doubts.
Nate, you can't take this away from me, you can't.
I just want what's best for you and the team.
And, unfortunately, they may not be the same thing.
Listen to me, I belong here.
Not yet.
IRVIN: If you hadn't been there, Sam SAM: Nah, you would've still put that gun down.
IRVIN: I don't know.
You know all that good we've done here would've been torn up.
Yeah, you would've never let that happen.
Great working with you, Sam.
Hey, you ever think about a career change, for real, always got room for you.
Thanks, Byron.
Sancho, we good? My gut told me not to trust you, that you were a plant, and you were.
We got a youth basketball tournament next weekend.
Could use another ref.
I'll be there.
We'll see.
(Sam chuckles) Thanks, Irvin.
Thank you.
(Sam laughs) Hey, hey.
(laughs) CALLEN: Put a plate aside for you before these guys ate it all.
Hey.
Hey.
(laughs) We'd be doing this food a disservice if we didn't try it all, right? You good? Yeah.
DEEKS: You should definitely try the jerk chicken, it's not hot at all.
(laughter) Mmm.
That's amazing.
Is that Ackee Bamboo? For my money, best Jamaican food in the city.
It's actually my money 'cause I paid for it.
Enjoy.
DEEKS: Can I have that plantain? SAM: Yeah.
DEEKS: Really? It's gluten-free? (Anna laughs) DEEKS: Cheers.
NELL: Cheers! (laughter) DEEKS: So I heard you guys were going on a date to LEGOLAND.
