Listen.
I have something to tell you.
Don't get mad, all right?
Uh-huh.
Wayne Collins reached out to me.
What do you mean?
What'd he want? It's been 20 years.
He's doing a 12-step program,
wants to make amends
for everything that happened
back when we were dating.
Yeah, like a half-assed "Sorry" makes up
for smacking you around.
Well, I hope you told him
where to stick his apology.
Mom.
He sounded sincere.
Said he's been clean for a while.
I said I'd hear him out,
so I invited him over
tomorrow night to talk.
God, Mom, after what he did
I lost count of all the nights
I'd wake up to hear you crying.
Now you're just gonna let him
back into your life?
That's not what I'm doing.
It's-it's not like
we're getting back together.
This is only to help his recovery.

Those girls just arrived.
They're still bright-eyed and trusting.
They'll be changing

She was about to tell me something.
Morris has to be lying
about the trafficking ring,
about Kate, all of it.
I agree, but we need proof,

Bryce Morris is smart.
So far, he's managed
to evade the police.
And from what we can tell,
he's been keeping
these cam girls working
by pumping them up with drugs
and empty promises.
What starts out as
fairly innocent content online
quickly turns X-rated.
Cam girls don't have
that long of a shelf life.
Once they burn out,
he's probably trafficking them.
It just feels so crazy that none
of these women are catching on.
Although, in Kate's voicemail,
it sounded like she was
getting wise to Morris's plan.
That was only a few days ago.
What if he still has her
trapped in his house
waiting to line up a buyer?
Could be why he didn't let us in.
All right, keep looking into Morris.
Hidden holdings, shady connections.
We need hard evidence
to get inside his operation.
Any luck finding something
that'd get us into Morris's house?
Not yet, but take a look at this.
This is the girl I talked to

That's why Bryce is pushing you

I'm not gonna tell you again.
[TAN] Come on, Alex, you "Fell"?
I've seen your videos.
I thought actors
were more creative than that.
Look, some guys jumped me
out of nowhere.
Okay? No big deal.
These guys look familiar?
They're after Kate.
But I think you
already know that, right?
I don't know where Kate is.
Aren't you Kate's boyfriend?
How do you not know where she is?
[CHUCKLES] Boyfriend?
Wow, I guess even cops
believe everything
they see on the Internet.
I'm gay.
Okay, Kate and I met in an acting class.
All directors care about
is your follower count,
so we put together some flirty
videos to get a bunch of views.
So when's the last time you saw Kate?
A month or so, give or take.
Kate started hanging
with this producer guy,
promised to make her a famous actress.
I told her it was sus.
She didn't believe me,
and she should've.
The guy never got her any real roles.
I mean not that she could
tell her family about anyway.
What does that mean?
ALEX: Guy from acting class found it.
Look, I'm not trying to judge.
You do what you got to do
to make your money,
but Kate just never seemed
like the type.
Didn't drink, didn't do drugs.
The producer could be a predator,
coercing Kate into making these videos.
- Do you know his name?
- I don't remember,
and the bikers didn't seem to
know anything about him either.
Did you show the bikers this video?
I had to. I told them
the club she worked at
and her agent's name.
- Who's her agent?
- Susan Connor.
A medic will take a look at you.
We got to find this agent, and fast.
Deacon says Sue Connor's not at home.
Her wife said she came
into the office this morning.
No one's answering the office phone.
Think I know why.
[TAN] 22-David.
Nightclub shooting suspects
are at 24405 Cestaneda Street.
Making entry.
- Agency's up there. Go.
- Copy you.
Last man.
- LAPD! Stop!
- [CABRERA] Don't move!
[GUNSHOTS]
I'm on him. You two go after them.
Copy.
[TAN] I'm LAPD. Hang in there.
You're gonna be okay.
22-David. Need an RA at my location.
Got a female with lacerations
to the face.
Help is on the way. Where'd he go?
That way.
All right, get out of here.
[TIRES SCREECH, HORN HONKS]
[GUNSHOTS]
[INDISTINCT SHOUTING]
This way!
- Move!
- [SCREAMS]
[TIRES SCREECH]
Out of the car!
- [GAMBLE] Get out of the way!
- [CABRERA] Out of the way!
Go, go, go!
54-David. Suspects stole
a silver pickup.
Plate number 2-Delta-Delta-Tango-4-5-6.
[BOTH GRUNTING]
[YELLS]
Tell me why you're after Kate,
and why you want to hurt her.
What are you talking about?
I'm not trying to hurt her.
I'm trying to save her.
I'm her brother.
- Did you talk to Kate's agent?
- [DEACON] Yeah.
She's shaken up, but thankfully,
she wasn't critically injured.
Turns out, she's Kate's ex-agent.
She was lured away by some producer
who promised her a faster rise to fame.
She hasn't heard from Kate in a month.
And soon after Kate
linked up with the producer,
she popped up on this cam girl site.
[HICKS] Wish I was surprised.
So many young girls come to this city
with stars in their eyes,
only to get chewed up and spit out,
- or worse.
- [DEACON] So, in her videos,
Kate seems high.
Slurred speech, eyes glazed over.
Producer could be drugging her
to get his way,
or make money off of her.
I saw similar scams on Vice.
These guys draw girls in,
cut them off from their old life,
then force them into porn
or pimp them out.
Reach out to your
Vice contacts, Tan.
See if they got any leads
on this producer.
If you're right, Kate
might not be the only victim.
So, while Kate was with her agent,
she only booked a couple of acting jobs,
but it did earn her residuals,
and she had those checks
sent to a P.O. box.
Gamble's got the number.
She's looking for an owner.
If we find the producer,
we can get ahead of the bikers.
In the meantime, grab Hondo,
talk to Kate's brother.
See if you can convince him to call off
his biker friends
before they kill again.
[HONDO] Ben, make the call.
Tell your buddies to stand down.
We will bring your sister home.
You wouldn't even be looking
for Kate if it wasn't for us.
And I'm not gonna leave her fate
to a bunch of cops that I don't trust.
[DEACON] Trust us or not,
we are putting all of our
manpower into finding her.
Yeah.
You know, we did some looking into you.
You're not part of their club.
Are you really willing to
take the fall for these guys?
At least I know
they'll get the job done.
They will find my sister.
Look, you're worried
and you're angry, I get it.
We know about the adult videos
she's been making.
She's being forced to make those.
'Cause Kate would never do
anything like that on her own.
And whoever's doing this to her,
we're gonna make him pay.
And there's a way to do that
without putting her in more danger.
Trust us.
I got a voicemail from
Kate a couple of days ago.
An unknown number.
[PHONE BEEPS]
[KATE OVER RECORDING] Ben,
I need help.
He won't let me leave.
I'm scared he's gonna hurt me.
I'm at a house in[GASPS]
Oh, God.
[MAN OVER RECORDING]
Hang it up, now.
[KATE SCREAMS]
It still kills me that I didn't answer.
So, my buddies
are gonna find this creep.
'Cause he deserves to die.
I scrubbed through Kate's videos,
which sent me down a rabbit hole
of other women.
Similar explicit content,
all uploaded from the same source.
[TAN] Yeah, odds are these girls
are all caught up in the same scam.
This producer convinces them
he can make their dreams come true.
Before they wise up,
he has them hooked on drugs
and making this garbage.
So, when we find Kate,
we'll probably find other victims, too.
[PHONE CHIMES]
It's a list of properties
that Vice suspects
are involved in these schemes.
Kate could be at any one of these.
Gamble's digging into the producer.
Hopefully, she's having better luck.
Any luck chasing down that P.O. box?
Yes and no.
Post office gave me the owner,
but it's under an LLC,
and I can't seem
to find the name behind it.
[SIGHS] Let me help.
Doing some research
will help clear my mind.
This have anything to do
with where you disappeared to earlier?
Hondo let me dip out for an hour.
Had to handle some family business.
Hey. I'm an expert on
screwed-up families, so
lay it on me.
My mom used to date this guy who'd
end every argument by giving
her a black eye or a split lip.
And now, he's back,
and she agreed to see him.
Guessing you tried, but you
couldn't convince her not to?
And I went to see him,
tried to shut it down.
All this rage I had as a kid
just flooded back.
You know, I used to fantasize about
hurting him for everything
he put us through.
I didn't think he still
had that power over me.
My dad has a way of getting
under my skin like that.
You know, they
trigger something in us.
Yeah, but you two managed to make peace.
Only because Hondo gave me
some good advice.
Made the decision to forgive him,
let go of all the anger that
I was carrying from my past.
- What if he doesn't deserve it?
- Doesn't matter.
It's not about him.
Miko, you deserve
to live life for yourself,
not some ghost from your past.
[COMPUTER CHIMES]
Hold up.
It's a certificate of
organization for a JDR Modeling.
Guy behind it's name is Bryce Morris.
He's got to be the producer
who's been manipulating Kate.
You got something on our missing girl?
Maybe, but that's
not what this is about.
Sir, some rumors are going around
that Deputy Chief Bennett's planning
to replace you.
I asked her if it was true,
and she said you're gonna be reassigned,
some art theft unit.
Thought you should know.
I heard the rumor, but that's all it is.
You sure about that? 'Cause it
sounded like a done deal.
[SIGHS]
We both know Bennett's got it in for me.
Okay, she's been making moves
against me all year.
This is just another one.
I hoped we'd put it behind us.
Bennett's not one to make empty threats.
I don't think you should downplay this.
To do anything, she'd have
to have the brass's support,
and they're all in my corner.
Same as the rank-and-file.
I've had to play politics
for a long time, Hondo.
My defenses are shored up.
And besides, the chief and I
hit the links last weekend.
- [PHONE BUZZES]
- I let him win, for God's sakes.
Team's got intel on our producer.
All right, well, keep me updated.
Yes, sir.
Hey. Just got your text.
What do we have?
We think we found our guy.
Bryce Morris. Runs the modeling agency
who owns the P.O. box.
[GAMBLE] Profile fits
the bill of a sex trafficker.
He's got dozens of aliases and contacts
in cities from here to Cambodia.
Cross-reference his property
records with Vice's list
of predatory houses.
This guy's a slippery bastard.
He owns a bunch
of generic-sounding businesses,
which I bet are just shell companies
- for less-than-legal activity.
- [GAMBLE] Look.
Morris owns this house in Laurel Canyon.
It's on Vice's list.
All right, let's grab Tan and head over.
Just because we don't have
enough evidence for a warrant
doesn't mean we can't have
a talk with him about Kate.
Bad boy, bad boy
do you want ♪
I can see how these girls
fall for Morris's lies.
Kate lived in a dumpy studio
apartment in East Hollywood,
and then she gets an invite
to live here, rent free?
[HONDO] We know this guy's smooth.
And he's been smart enough
to cover his tracks.
We're gonna have to
play this just right.
Is Bryce Morris here?
We're LAPD SWAT.
We need to speak to him.
Yeah, can I ask what this is about?
We're looking into a missing person.
Right now is not the best time.
[BRYCE] Something wrong, Officers?
[HONDO] Bryce Morris?
We're looking for this woman,
Kate Sennott.
Family's worried.
Hasn't heard from her in days.
Have you seen her?
[SIGHS] I wish I could help.
Kate left the other morning.
Didn't say where she was going.
All the girls here,
they come and go as they wish.
[GAMBLE] Could we speak to
some of your other residents?
In case Kate told them
where she was going.
Most of them are working right now.
What is it the women do again?
They make lifestyle content
for social media.
Seems the Internet has
an insatiable appetite for it.
Gated property,
security cameras, guards.
Hard to believe anyone leaves
without your approval.
Look at these girls.
Security's only here to protect them
from unwanted attention.
Girls? Would you come over here?
These officers have
some questions for you.
Now, do they look unhappy?
This place is paradise.
Ask your questions, be on your way.
[HONDO] Ladies,
do the three of you
feel safe living here?
Is everything all right?
Of course.
I mean, I've only been here a week,
but this place is a dream.
Bryce takes good care of us.
[HONDO] And you're allowed
to go off the property?
Leave whenever you feel like it?
[WOMAN] Yeah
[TAN] Hey, I'm Officer Tan.
I'm with LAPD. What's your name?
Uh, Lucy.
Why aren't you enjoying
yourself with the other girls?
Just doing some chores.
I should probably get back to it.
We just want to make sure
that you girls are safe.
Are you able to leave if you want?
Say no to making content?
You can trust me.
I'm trying to find Kate Sennott.
Is she a friend of yours?
Kate left.
She wasn't cutting it.
Hey.
Get your guy away from there.
All right, I've been
more than accommodating.
- Now, it's time for you to go.
- Okay, okay. We're leaving.
But don't think you're off our radar.
Those girls just arrived.
They're still bright-eyed and trusting.
They'll be changing
their tune in a few weeks.
The one I was talking to
was a little less polished.
She was about to tell me something.
Morris has to be lying
about the trafficking ring,
about Kate, all of it.
I agree, but we need proof,
and the sooner the better.
Bryce Morris is smart.
So far, he's managed
to evade the police.
And from what we can tell,
he's been keeping
these cam girls working
by pumping them up with drugs
and empty promises.
What starts out as
fairly innocent content online
quickly turns X-rated.
Cam girls don't have
that long of a shelf life.
Once they burn out,
he's probably trafficking them.
It just feels so crazy that none
of these women are catching on.
Although, in Kate's voicemail,
it sounded like she was
getting wise to Morris's plan.
That was only a few days ago.
What if he still has her
trapped in his house
waiting to line up a buyer?
Could be why he didn't let us in.
All right, keep looking into Morris.
Hidden holdings, shady connections.
We need hard evidence
to get inside his operation.
Any luck finding something
that'd get us into Morris's house?
Not yet, but take a look at this.
This is the girl I talked to
at the house.
Looks like she's on the downslope, too.
Her demand's waning,
and her videos have taken a dark turn.
She's going down the same path as Kate.
We've got to find a way to get inside.
I have an idea.
Come on.
[COMPUTER CHIMING]
Where have you been?
You have a customer. Pick it up.
[CLEARS THROAT]
Hey. What'll it be, handsome?
Hey, Lucy, you're the girl
I've been looking for.
Do you remember me?
I don't know. When did we last chat?
What the hell is this?
You trying to get me in trouble?
No, I'm worried about you.
Just let me do my job.
Lucy, wait. I'm Officer Cabrera.
Look, Bryce is good at what he does.
Even the smartest people
get played by him.
Like Kate was.
Kate wasn't played.
She wouldn't do the other kinds
of videos that Bryce wanted,
so he kicked her out.
Does Bryce force you to make
those more violent videos?
It's what the clients want,
so I do what I have to.
It's not a big deal.
Kate said no,
so they threw her out.
[TAN] Do you really
think Bryce just let her go?
After she stood up to him like that?
That's what Bryce told us.
All I saw was a guard
leading Kate out of her room.
She wouldn't stop crying.
Kind of freaked me out.
[TAN] Listen to me, Lucy.
Kate wasn't kicked out,
she was taken to be trafficked.
Bryce Morris is running
a sex trafficking ring
that you are right in the middle of.
Come on.
Be real.
You guys were here earlier.
If Bryce is so bad,
why didn't you arrest him then?
We can't enter without cause.
Bryce covers his tracks.
He makes sure there's
no evidence connecting him
to the trafficking ring.
But you could be next.
We know your videos
aren't getting
as many views as they used to.
That's why Bryce is pushing you
to do darker content, right?
Once he's gotten
as much money as he can,
he will put you up for sale
and ship you off
to who-knows-where.
[CABRERA] If you tell us
that you feel threatened
or that you're in danger,
it'd be enough cause for us
to enter and help you.
Just say the word.
Yes.
Yes, please. I need help.
I'm a prisoner here.
I can't leave.
Will you come help me?
We're on our way.

girls who need our help.
LAPD! Drop the weapon. Cover.

[TAN] Hondo, we got Morris
on the security feed.
He's out front with a guard,
loading girls into a vehicle.
[HONDO OVER COMMS]

- Get in there.
- [CRYING]
Stop right there, Morris.
It's over.
Stay back. I'm warning you.
[HONDO] You're done, man.
There's no way you're
getting out of this clean.
You're a lot of things,
but you're no killer.
Drop the gun and let the girls go.
All right.
All right.
It's the bikers.
Rizzolo, stand down! We got this.
Gamble, cover.

Morris is gonna make a run for it.
- [RAPID GUNFIRE]

Deacon, cover us!
Gamble, move.

Let's go.
Stay on the ground, stay on
the ground, stay on the ground.

There he is.

- Shut up!
- [SHOUTS]
Go back to sleep.
Come on, Nolan, you're out of options.
[TAN] Drop your weapons!
Kate doesn't want
to see you get killed, man.
She cares about you.
Let's put an end to this.
All right. We're coming out.
Turn around and face the wall.
Drop those weapons!
- On your knees.
- Put your hands behind your back.
30-David. The bikers are in custody.
[SIREN WAILS]
Stop it, bitch.
Hang on.
Now.
[TIRES SCREECHING]
[PANTING]
Ah! All right, man. Take it easy.
You're lucky this is
all I'm doing to you.
I got you, I got you.
I'm here. We're here. Are you okay?
- Yeah.
- Okay.
20-David. We're Code 4.
Bryce Morris is in custody. Kate's safe.
[SOFT MUSIC PLAYING]
Right this way.
[GASPS] Ben!
Kate! Oh, you're okay.
You're okay.
I promise, I always got you.
He may actually be able
to keep that promise.
He's not a member of the Dark Angels,
had a clean record before this.
He'll probably catch a lighter
sentence than the others.
Hope so, anyway. For Kate's sake.
I'm just glad we got them
out before it was too late.
After what Morris did,
he deserves everything coming to him.
Thanks for riding with us, Cabrera.
You were a huge asset today.
Wish we got to work together more often.
So, what I'm hearing is,
- 50-Squad's not all bad, huh?
- [CHUCKLING]
Hey, just don't tell Rocker I said that.
Let's kick some ass again soon.
Let's do it.
This is a great place you got here.
[CHUCKLES]
It really feels like you.
Well, it should. I've certainly
been here long enough.
Miguel.
I didn't think you were coming.
Had a change of heart.
Thought I'd hear you out.
Glad you could make it, kid.
First off, let me, uh,
just say
I'm sorry
for everything I did back in the day.
The pain I caused wasn't
fair to either of you.
We appreciate that, Wayne.
[CHUCKLES SOFTLY]
Making amends is tough, you know?
It's not enough to apologize.
You got to show change through action.
Pay back what you took.
I can't exactly, uh
add up what I owe you and
write out a check, you know.
I hope it's enough
to take accountability
for my part in things.
[ALFARO] Whoa.
What do you mean "Your part"?
What other part is there?
Well, sometimes, I mean,
it was a two-way street, right?
I'd be drinking,
Marie would get me all riled up,
I'd fly off the handle.
We both had a hand in-in
where it ended up.
Am I wrong?
I don't know if that's how I'd
characterize what happened.
It sounds like you think my mom
is to blame for you abusing her.
Whoa, hey! Okay.
Easy, easy. I'm not
I'm just saying there was a lot of crap
going on back then, okay?
And [EXHALES] it takes two to tango.
[ALFARO] Okay. All right.
Let's get one thing straight.
My mom let you into our home,
she dealt with your drunk ass,
all while taking care
of me and my sister.
And you repay her by hitting her?
- That's no excuse.
- Okay, come on, man. That's not
No, no, no, no, no.
We both wanted to put this behind us.
But if this virtuous crap is all an act,
then what's the point?
You're still the same pathetic
loser you have always been.
- Miguel, don't
- No, stop defending him.
Mom, he doesn't deserve it.
He comes over here
to take accountability,
and throws blame at your feet?
No, it's not right.
Listen to me.
This is the last time I'm gonna
tell you to stay away from us.
If you step one foot out of line,
I'm not a kid anymore.
Yeah, I know.
- You're a cop, you're a big man now.
- Yeah.
Hey. I think this might've
been a mistake, Wayne.
You should go.
[DOOR CLOSES]
[KNOCKS]
Everything good, Commander?
Oh, I assume so.
The deputy chief requested
that we all get together.
In the spirit of transparency,
I wanted you both here
so we could put the rumors
about replacing Commander Hicks to bed.
I'm pleased to inform you
that you have been promoted
to LAPD's new art theft unit.
Congratulations.
[CHUCKLING] Okay.
What is this?
I thought you were serious
about ending the animosity,
stopping all the game-playing.
Let's let's move forward.
This is moving forward.
SWAT needs new blood.
They need someone else to come in
and take this department
into the future.
And Commander Hicks is
the best person to do that.
Do you know how many years
I've put into SWAT?
That art theft position is
for a young captain looking
to cut his teeth in command.
Not someone of my rank. It's an insult.
Well, the mandate comes from the chief.
He wants you in that position.
I wouldn't say that's an insult.
The chief is on board with this?
[BENNETT] And he signed off.
And all of the senior ranks are
in favor of the promotion.
And if I decide not to play ball?
Well, you can tell the brass
that you reject
- their exciting opportunity.
- [SCOFFS]
O-Okay, I'm sure there's
a compromise here, Leticia.
- Let's talk.
- No, no.
I know how this goes.
Your so-called "Promotion,"
it's just the first push
towards obscurity.
And I'm not gonna be forced
out of the department
I've given my life to.
Consider this my resignation.
I accept.
Sir.
You can't be serious.
I always intended to leave SWA
on my own terms, Hondo.
I just didn't expect the day
to come so soon.
Good luck finding my replacement.
[CLOSING THEME MUSIC PLAYING]
