That was the trippiest blind audition I've ever experienced.
I think you're the most important person That's ever been on this show.
I'm so glad you're here, man.
Daly: After night 1 of the blind auditions, Here's where the coaches' teams stand.
I was blown away.
Adam scored two powerful artists.
i'll be there for you Someone could be a country singer or a pop singer.
Either way, it's just important To have singers on my team that i think are great.
Whoo! i can't get enough Daly: Pharrell landed two eclectic vocalists.
Pharrell: I am building a memorable team with people who are different.
I just want to continue to be inspired And to push them to be inspired, too.
And if that leads us to a win, it's awesome.
Oh, my god! Daly: Gwen gained two unique singers.
Gwen: I have two artists on my team.
I'm just gonna keep looking for amazing, beautiful voices That i connect to.
I want you on my team.
I pick blake.
Of course.
Yeah! Daly: And blake added two passionate vocalists.
Blake: So far, my team is turning out to be really diverse, And i could not be happier about it.
[ laughs .]
Idiot! i hope you dance Daly: Tonight, the blind auditions continue that eases all her pain Daly: With talent that stuns our coaches.
Wow.
You brought me to tears.
Are you superman? Come on.
The competition heats up Blake's gonna say a lot of great things.
-He's actually got a point.
-No! There's a thing called the country mafia, And blake is in charge of that.
Daly: And the artists are put to the test.
What's your favorite stevie wonder song? And would you do a verse and the chorus? -Damn.
-Crazy! -Uhh! I just wanted to see what you had.
Ohh! Night 2 of the blind auditions starts -What?! -No way! Daly: Right now.
Let's meet the night's first artist.
My name is joseph bommersbach.
I go by "blind joe.
" I'm 32 years old, from fargo, north dakota.
People have called me "blind joe" all my life, And, obviously, that's 'cause i'm blind and my name is joe.
I was born three months premature, And i had a 98% chance that i was not supposed to live.
I ended up pulling through just fine, Except my retinas didn't attach.
So, yeah, this is a truly blind audition.
[ laughs .]
Hey, joe.
I'm carson.
Hey, carson.
Nice to meet you, man.
Nice to see you.
Welcome.
Looking good, brother.
Hey, thank you.
Thank you so much.
[ laughter .]
I like the humor already.
So, what sort of kid was joe? -Accident-prone.
-Accident-prone.
I've never let my blindness be a hindrance.
I was always just one of the kids.
I had this little red bike, And i kept running into parked cars Up and down the street.
Hold your own and go for it.
It'll be awesome.
My mom and dad really instilled that if you want something, You've got to work hard.
I think that really has helped me a lot.
Music, of course, was a huge part of my childhood.
When i was 5 years old, My grandpa bought me a cheap guitar.
He secured mailbox letters to the neck of the guitar So that i knew what letter Corresponded to the note that i was playing.
Ever since then, i've really never looked back -- No pun intended.
well, when i walked in here In college, i started playing music down at the honky-tonk.
My first show, i made like 100 bucks in tips, And i was like, "hey! This is all right!" Hmm.
I've been playing small-town bars now for 10 years.
My wife liann's always been very supportive of my music.
Yeah! I like that! [ laughs .]
-That sounded good.
-That's the end.
That's the end right there.
Liann is, like, my ultimate roadie.
She loads up the equipment, sells merchandise, And tears down at the end of the night.
We jokingly say i'm his seeing-eye wife [ chuckles .]
But i don't see it as a job.
It's just what you do because he's my husband and i love him.
Liann and i have been married now for a little over a year.
She's My angel.
So i thank god every day That he blessed me with someone as wonderful as her.
Get on in here.
[ both laugh .]
Liann: All right, here we are.
Unfortunately, i can only play shows on the weekends Because my wife and i both have full-time jobs.
I teach blind and visually impaired people How to use the accessibility software On their smartphones and computers.
The screen reader will tell you what your finger's on.
See? I love being able to help people, But my heart and soul has always been in music.
This is it, joe.
This is it.
Moment of truth.
"the voice" is unique in that you can be your own artist.
And i think all four of these coaches Have made a name for themselves And can help me just develop who i am.
I want to be able to take care of my wife, And we want to start a family.
I got your guitar, if you want to grab my right shoulder You bet.
I've played a lot of small-town bars And always had big-time dreams, man, so this is it.
This is my chance, and i'm gonna take it.
It's gonna be a good one.
Got that feeling.
There he goes! Thank you, brother.
Thank you.
[ "if it hadn't been for love" plays .]
never woulda hitchhiked to birmingham if it hadn't been for love never woulda run through the blindin' rain without one dollar to my name if it hadn't been, if it hadn't been for love four cold walls against my will at least i know she's lying still Oh, that's good! Yeah! Whoo! four cold walls without parole lord, have mercy Yes! Whoo! on my soul Clap those hands.
Come on.
never woulda gone to that side of town if it hadn't been for love never woulda loaded up my .
44 put myself behind a jailhouse door if it hadn't been, if it hadn't been for love yeah, if it hadn't been if it hadn't been for lo-o-o-o-o-ve Whoo! [ cheers and applause .]
ohh! Whoo! [ laughs .]
Look at him! He doesn't know what to think! What's your name, man? My name's blind joe.
Blind joe, you got a four-chair turnaround just now.
What?! Yeah.
Yeah.
[ cheers and applause .]
I don't know what to say, man.
I, uh Say, "i pick team adam.
" that'd be great.
[ laughs .]
Oh, man, i don't expect this to go my way.
I see the cowboy hat.
[ laughs .]
Every time there is a flair That may lean country, i lose, joe.
And i'm sick of losing.
I want to win, and i am not going to give up Until i have someone That does something that is completely unique.
And i'm hoping that i could have you be that person for me.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
How you doing, joe? This is pharrell speaking.
That was adam, by the way.
Yes.
He could have thought it was gwen.
I'm just saying.
That's -- [ chuckles .]
You have a high voice, is all i'm saying.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I pressed my button At the very, very, very last moment.
But i'm glad that i turned around To give support to someone who's original And has their own thing, like you do.
Thank you so much, man.
[ cheers and applause .]
I think that there's a thing called the country mafia, And blake [ laughter .]
Blake is in charge of that, and [ blind joe laughs .]
Gwen: So we don't stand a chance against him.
But i really appreciate your performance.
There was something so honest about it and raw.
I grew up on bluegrass and folk music, And i had that feeling of my childhood when i heard you sing.
And i'm happy to be witnessing it.
Thank you so much.
[ applause .]
Blake: Hey, joe.
How cool would it be to see you and ronnie milsap Yeah.
Jamming out at the cma awards or something, Man, after you win this freakin' thing? Dude, you've overcame so much.
It's time to start reaping some rewards.
[ applause .]
I'd be honored to introduce you to nashville, for sure.
Hey, joe, just be smart about your strategy, Because i worry about you On a team that has a lot of country singers.
I don't worry about your future on this show For one freakin' second.
There's only one blind joe in the freakin' world.
Come home.
Come to my team.
Thank you.
Shock me, joe.
Shock me! It's time to decide -- who do you think is your coach? [ audience shouting .]
Please.
[ sighs .]
I pick [ shouting continues .]
Blake! Yes! Yes! it's a great day to be alive What a surprise.
i know the sun's still shinin' when i close my eyes Blake: I am beside myself right now.
Hard times in the neighborhood Joe, i'm so happy! Blind joe is one of the most special singers I've ever had on my team.
-I'm honored that you chose me.
-It's an honor to meet you, man.
-Thank you so much.
-This is gonna be a lot of fun.
He's singing from a place that it's hard to conquer In country music.
Want to say hi to the other coaches? Yeah.
Yeah, come on.
I'm just in absolute shock.
Here's gwen right here.
I'm right here.
Hi.
Hi.
Very nice to meet you.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Here's adam.
He's really mad, but here's adam.
[ laughter .]
Hey, dude.
How are you, man? Hey, buddy.
This is the start of an amazing career for me And a wonderful life for my wife, most of all.
[ laughing .]
oh, my god.
Adam: Blake is like the beacon and the ambassador To country music on "the voice," So blasting past that barricade is tough.
You're stupid.
Get out of my face.
[ laughs .]
If the singer's good enough, I'll fight blake until the cows come home.
So he's never gonna get rid of me.
I'm just gonna keep fighting.
Adam: I want to get a country artist from you.
It's gonna happen, and it's gonna be me.
That's my man.
I'm gonna work very hard to make blake proud.
How are you, dude? No, that's not it.
You already did it.
Oh, thank you, man.
I was so nervous.
[ laughs .]
Oh, my god.
Hey -- i was about to be like, "hey, can i have some of what blake's drinking?" [ laughs .]
Daly: Coming up we could dance and party Daly: Electrifying performances.
rock steady Yeah! rock steady can i break the spell Wow! of the typical? Daly: And later No! The odds are really stacked against you.
Duh.
Come on.
Daly: Our other coaches try to take down Blake and his country mafia.
Just because i'm not in country doesn't mean That i don't have the longest career.
I hope that you can choose passion over -- Common sense.
No, not common sense.
this is "the voice" [ laughter .]
Daly: Welcome back.
Let's check in with our coaches On the back lot of universal studios, hollywood.
There's something you need to know about.
[ chuckles .]

Go.
Get in.

[ classical music plays .]
[ british accent .]
pharrell, welcome to the champions' lounge.
Here, have a little bit of bubbling thing.
This is the winners' lounge.
Okay.
[ glasses clink .]
You don't see any pictures of shakira.
[ laughs .]
You don't see any pictures of your friend gwen, Cee lo green, or christina aguilera.
Oh-ho! That's my favorite.
[ chuckles .]
I bestow upon you the greatest gift Anyone on "the voice" can be given.
Wow.
Oh, it's beautiful, isn't it? I am honored.
[ glasses clink .]
welcome to the club.
Thank you, sir.
[ laughter .]
L'chaim! [ glass shatters .]
We don't have anybody to clean that up.
Daly: While our coaches make their way back to their chairs, This next artist, ivonne acero -- A familiar face from season 8 -- Hopes to leave her job at a cantaloupe farm For a coach's team.
I'm back! You have no idea how many people have come up to me.
They're just like, "you're the cantaloupe girl.
" Both my parents come from mexico.
They came here to provide for us and their family.
And they taught me the value of hard work.
How you been? You been good? Yeah.
So glad you're back.
Not getting a chair was brutal.
you don't have to try so hard you don't have to give it all away Time ran out.
I was actually mad at myself.
Yes.
Ohh! You're five minutes away from having a four-chair turn.
Look, let that microphone go.
[ cheers and applause .]
You have an enormous gift.
Don't wrap it up like that.
As soon as i got home after my audition, I was like, "okay, it's time to work.
" I've been doing the local gigs and concert choir, And i even participated in my school's musical.
I think the experience has given me confidence, But the pressure's on now.
I definitely feel like this time, i better get a chair.
[ chuckles .]
Go out there, enjoy yourself.
We'll always love you, mija, whatever happens.
Mm-hmm.
I know, dad.
Love you.
Love you, too.
I think what really hurt last time Was i didn't want to disappoint my parents.
But coaches really did help me with my confidence.
And now, this season, i'm just hoping that they can help me Take a step forward on my career.
I just can't wait to hear the next one.
Me too.
It's so fun.
Okay, come on.
Come on.
Oh, my god.
Oh, my god.
[ "style" plays .]
midnight you come and pick me up, no headlights [ all cheering .]
yes! Two right there! There's two right there! long drive could end in burning flames or paradise fade into view oh, it's been a while since i have even heard from you heard from you i should just tell you to leave, 'cause i know exactly where it leads, but i watch us go 'round and 'round each time you've got that james dean, daydream look in your eye and i've got that red lip, classic thing that you like and when we go crashing down, we come back every time we never go out of style we never go out of style take me ho-o-o-o-o-o-me out of style [ cheers and applause .]
Oh, my god! She did it! [ laughter .]
-Hey! -Whoa! -Hey.
I recognize her.
What's your name, again? Ivonne acero.
Are you the one that worked at A fruit thing, or what is it? The cantaloupe farm.
Oh, my gosh.
I remember all of that.
[ imitating blake .]
i remember you.
You worked at the fruit thing.
[ laughter .]
I knew it was fruit of some sort.
She knows what i'm talking about.
Blake.
What? You said you'd turn for me.
Well Oh.
You're very young, right? Yeah, i'm 17.
You need to already understand that men lie.
[ laughter .]
and that's -- And i'm sorry.
Especially blake.
But, look, these two are your heroes.
-Really, thank you so much.
-They hit their buttons.
You're in the show.
You came back and did it! Yeah! [ cheers and applause .]
I wouldn't be back if it weren't for your encouragement.
Your kind words really are what brought me back.
I just want to thank you so much for that.
[ cheers and applause .]
You raised a good one.
This is who she is.
By the way, technically, gwen's the only person who wasn't here, So she's the only one that didn't not turn around.
I would have turned around.
Pharrell: Well, you know what, i missed it the first time, But i did not miss it this time.
Whoo! I felt like there was some really interesting Pocket skill that you had, But then, like, the control that you have Is very, very, very impressive.
I loved how creative you were making it your own.
I wasn't thinking about taylor.
You were so in the lyric and delivering that emotion.
I was blown away by you.
I can't believe you're 17.
Like, that's really incredible.
Yeah.
Thank you so much.
You're at the beginning of the journey that i just finished.
And i can really help you through this show.
I really think i can.
Your voice is amazing.
And you do have glasses and braces.
And you are a special, super-unique thing That we don't have on this show.
And i pride myself as a producer in working with Artists that don't walk down the beaten path.
And so i would love for you to come on my team.
Yeah, thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
I'm proud to say to you, "ivonne, who do you pick as your coach?" [ audience shouting .]
Pharrell.
this is my fight song take back my life song Crushed.
prove i'm all right song Thank you.
Crushed.
Thank you so much.
No, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Pharrell: Ivonne was special to me.
She just goes into this other world, This sophisticated voice of hers.
And for her to come back the way she did, I think she has what it takes to win.
[ cheers and applause .]
Oh, my god, i can't believe that just happened.
Ohh! [ cheers and applause .]
Pharrell just seems like such a kind, humble person, And i would really want to be around that spirit, you know, And learn from him.
This is so unfair.
He's so cute that they can't not pick him.
That is not fair.
[ chuckles .]
what? They're 17.
That right there was cute when you just did that.
[ laughs .]
That's adorable.
Daly: Coming up, four-chair turns That have our coaches stepping up their games.
[ laughing .]
oh, my god! To nail it like you did -- that's the ship i want to be on.
[ laughs .]
i was, like, floored by it.
I would love a shot at working with you.
I just want to see you stand up there in that spotlight And blow people away.
Blake's gonna say a lot of great things.
You're damn right.
Don't look him in the eye.
this is "the voice" ohh! Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet this next artist.
My name is gage navarro.
I'm 21 years old, and i'm from selma, california.
Selma, california, is pretty boring, to be honest.
It's the raisin capital of the world.
So that's exciting.
Check him out.
Check him out! My dad left the picture when i was 3 years old.
My mom really stepped up to the plate, And she was there if i didn't make a soccer team, If i got in trouble in school.
She was my rock.
[ chuckles .]
When i was 4 years old, my mom met my stepdad.
He owns a golf course in selma.
And he supported us more than we could have ever asked for.
I didn't get into singing until eighth grade.
I started because everybody's like, "oh, girls like guys who can sing.
" So i was like, "well, i want to be that guy.
" [ sighs .]
After high school, music had to take a back seat Just due to the fact that the economy took a tank, And it just sort of took a huge toll on us.
The greens started to go, and then the grass started to go.
It was just really not a place that anybody wanted to golf.
And our house got foreclosed on.
You raise your kids, you want everything to be good, And you want them to have everything, Even the things you didn't have, et cetera, et cetera.
And then [ snaps fingers .]
It's been really hard on my mom and stepdad.
I'm proud of you.
We had to move above the pro shop.
Me, my mom, and my stepdad are the golf course.
For 86 acres, we'll be picking up range balls, We'll be mowing the fairways.
We brought it back up to what we could with three people, But now that the drought has happened, it's gone.
If the golf course shuts down, there's nowhere for us to go.
Music is life at this point.
When you're not able to focus on something that you love Due to prior obligations, it's really disheartening.
Being on "the voice" means That i really can get back to solely focusing on music.
I don't know what kind of artist i am.
I feel like coaching could help me figure out What i can do musically.
Okay, you got it, baby.
You got it.
[ "ain't no rest for the wicked" plays .]
Hey! said i was walkin' down the street when out the corner of my eye i saw a pretty little thing approaching me she said, "i've never seen a man who looked so all alone oh, could you use a little company?" not even 15 minutes later i'm still walkin' down the street when i saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight and then he swept up from behind he put a gun up to my head and made it clear he wasn't lookin' for a fight oh, "give me all you got i want that money, not your life but if you try to make a move, i won't think twice" oh, "you can have my cash you know, but first i gotta ask what made you want to live this life?" oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked money don't grow on trees i got bills to pay, i got mouths to feed ain't nothing in this world for free you know i can't hold back, i can't slow down even though you know i wish i could there ain't no rest for the wicked no, until we close our eyes for good [ cheers and applause .]
Gwen: Whoa! What's your name? My name's gage.
There's so many good things That were happening in that performance.
You were so rhythmic.
Why, thank you.
And then it was almost like a rapper The way that you were singing.
Mm-hmm.
I even heard bradley nowell.
I heard a little bit of sublime in there, too, or something.
Yeah.
I heard a lot of cool, different stuff.
But i couldn't feel the genuine, human story coming through, For whatever reason.
That's the only reason i didn't press.
I want to tell you a story About my music teacher in elementary school.
He was probably one of the most important figures in my life.
And he'd come into music class every single day, And he'd write this word on the board.
It would say "oomph.
" And he would be like, "it's this extra thing.
" And i feel like that was the last thing i was waiting for For me to press it.
Pharrell: What adam is saying is completely right.
If we could just hear that in your tone and in your voice,d The very next time you come here.
I'll be back.
Yeah.
I'll be back.
Good.
[ cheers and applause .]
Come back and see us, bro, man.
I'm absolutely grateful for the feedback That the coaches have given me.
It's helped me realize that i can always be better And i can always do more.
Oomph, baby.
Oomph.
You did great.
Keep it up.
Awesome.
With gage, i was getting too taken away By all his technical ability, But i'm looking for singers that are emotional, And that's really the most important thing.
Daly: Coming up yeah, oh Daly: An artist delivers a powerful performance rock steady Daly: And has our coaches head-over-heels.
Wow.
You're beautiful.
[ laughter .]
Love you.
[ laughs .]
I don't make mistakes, but blake makes tons of mistakes.
[ laughter .]
Daly: And later, pharrell puts an artist on the spot.
I just wanted to see what you had.
this is "the voice" oh, my god! Daly: Welcome back.
Oh, my god! This next artist has already made it on the radio, But not as a singer.
Regina: We got a great show for you today, guys.
Are you pursuing your dreams? 'cause guess what -- they can happen.
Here we are at b100, and i am a radio host, And my show is "the regina love show.
" Don't you just love it? We talk about everything from news, current events.
You're gonna make me cry.
My goodness.
You're gonna mess up my makeup.
My goal is to inspire people.
I want them to know that they can make it, no matter what.
I just want to thank you for taking this journey wi m As much as i love being on the radio, My real passion has been singing.
I have a really big family.
They're all musically inclined.
And me, my cousins, and then some of our friends, We formed a contemporary gospel group.
We toured for years.
It just changed my life.
And in 1999, i got a record deal With five-time heavyweight world champion evander holyfield On his record label, real deal records.
So, tell me a little about the label.
I had the music company to give other people opportunity To do something that i don't do.
Regina can sing any song.
[ laughs .]
anybody who got an ear And know that she is a star in the making.
I recorded three inspirational albums, And i thought that real deal records Was my big shot.
But after five years, the record label folded.
It just broke my heart when it ended.
I was a single mother, You know, scrambling to take care of her kids.
It was really hard to get over because this is my dream.
[ voice breaking .]
sometimes i want to quit.
But i can't quit Because i got too many people in this room for me to go on.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be on "the voice" Because i need a coach to move me and push me forward.
Blake is country, but he can take a soul artist And do phenomenal things, like when he had sisaundra.
But all of the coaches are great.
At 51 years old, this is my second chance.
[ cheers and applause .]
Regina, go, girl! Let's go! [ "rock steady" plays .]
mmmmm-hmmmm rock steady, baby that's what i feel now let's call this song exactly what it is huh it's a funky and low-down feelin' move your hips from left to right what it is is ya might be doin' this funky dance all night whoa, ohhhhh yeah, ohhhhhh rock steady rock steady, babe Come on! Whoo! Whoo! Wow.
Whoo! Wow.
Hi.
What's your name, and where are you from? Regina love.
I am from atlanta, georgia.
Wow.
[ cheers and applause .]
Wow.
That's a great name.
It's unbelievable that a voice like that Can come out of a human being.
I was floored by it.
But i was thinking, as a coach, like, "what can i offer that?" You know what i mean? It was shocking.
You are shocking.
And i didn't get a chance to press my button because, Honestly -- didn't get a chance? You had like a minute and a half.
[ laughter .]
It's true.
I made a mistake.
You're 100 million percent the real thing.
If someone makes a mistake, I will definitely be pressing my button.
[ laughs .]
thank you.
Fortunately, i don't make mistakes, So that will not be happening.
But blake makes tons of mistakes.
[ laughs .]
Listen, i turned around for one reason.
I thought it would be a crime If this voice wasn't on the show.
You have an incredible talent.
Thank you so much.
[ cheers and applause .]
And i love you, and [ laughter .]
You're beautiful.
Thank you.
[ laughs .]
What genre do you sing, mostly? I love to make music for your soul.
Hmm.
If you're sad, i'm gonna make you happy.
Okay? [ cheers and applause .]
Yes, ma'am.
Regina.
Yes? Regina, i'm super-sad! [ laughter .]
Blake: Hello, regina.
Hi.
I love you! I love you, too.
[ laughs .]
You know, what i've learned after doing this For a hundred years now Is sometimes, you just got to give somebody The opportunity to get up there and shine.
And that's what it takes to win this show.
I'm a fan.
I'm sure that we can put our heads together And come up with some great song ideas.
But most of all, i just want to see you Stand up there in that spotlight and blow people away.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
You're good.
Adam: Regina.
Yes? Have i mentioned i love you? [ laughing .]
yes! Regina, who do you pick as your coach? I think it's time.
[ audience shouting .]
Ohh [ shouting continues .]
I pick adam.
Yes! [ cheers and applause .]
Yeah.
[ laughs .]
Get down here.
Regina love is good enough She really doesn't need any coaching, anyway.
So she may do well in spite of having adam.
Thank you.
You are awesome.
Thank you so much.
So good.
Amazing.
Regina: This is my dream coming true! Right now at 51 years old! Ooh, lord, i thank you! Let me have it.
[ laughs .]
I thought you won that one, blake.
Dang it.
Dang it.
Her voice is crazy.
Crazy.
She's so good.
Yeah.
Welcome to the show.
Thank you.
You deserve it.
Regina: I'm so looking forward to working with adam.
And i feel he can take me places where i've never gone before.
I'm glad somebody turned so Me too! We didn't have to get the champ out here.
I know! Yes! [ laughs .]
Daly: Coming up How old are you? 16 years old.
What?! -No way! -You girls are sick! Daly: Our coaches think an artist has special powers.
Wow.
Are you superman? And adam continues to try bringing down the country king.
He is the man when it comes to country.
You can stop there.
You can stop there.
Uhp! Uhp! I have zero country artists.
That means you'll have zero competition.
this is "the voice" [ laughter .]
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
This next singer hopes to prove He has what it takes to make a team.
My name is zach seabaugh.
I'm 16 years old, and i'm from marietta, georgia.
I have four sisters.
I'm the middle child.
They've definitely taught me a lot, Being a teenage boy growing up.
You know, i think my sisters did good.
Watching "the voice" is something our family does.
I'm very in shock that my brother's on "the voice.
" [ laughs .]
I started singing country music when i was a little kid.
My grandpa -- he'd turn on johnny cash.
You know, what 5-year-old knows who johnny cash is? I wouldn't be where i am if it wasn't for him.
My grandpa passed away in 2009.
Before he passed away, he said, "zach, you know, you're gonna be something one day.
" Growing up, i played football 'cause that's what everyone else was doing.
But i decided that "this singing thing is cool.
I want to start pursuing this.
" I tried to keep it a secret from my football team, But last year, I decided that i was no longer gonna play football.
I definitely got negative feedback from it, But i then went on, Won a few state championships for my singing.
So it's starting to pay off.
We're just excited That he was mature enough to make that choice, And his coach and football players show up and support him.
So it's been a lot of fun, And he's really good at what he does.
you're still here For me to have those chairs turn around, It'd be, honestly, a dream come true.
I love blake, but i watched pharrell last season, And what he did was amazing.
At home, i've done a lot of community gigs, But the biggest crowd i've sang for was just a few hundred.
I wear my grandpa's dog tags Because i wouldn't be doing what i'm doing If it wasn't for him.
I'm here to prove something.
Here we go, y'all.
Oh, my gosh, there he is.
[ laughs .]
[ "take your time" plays .]
i know your name 'cause everybody in here knows your name and you're not looking for anything right now so i don't wanna come on strong don't get me wrong your eyes are so intimidating you coulda rolled your eyes, told me to go to hell coulda walked it away but you're still here and i'm still here come on, let's see where it goes i don't wanna steal your freedom i don't wanna change your mind i don't wanna make you love me i just wanna take your ti-i-i-me i don't wanna go home with you whoa, whoa, whoa i just wanna be alone with you i don't wanna make you love me i just wanna take your time no, i don't wanna call you "baby" 'cause i ain't gonna call you mine i don't wanna take your heart i just wanna take your time ohh i just wanna take your time Ohh, man! [ cheers and applause .]
I saw them turn.
You tricked me! I swear, i did not.
They turned.
What's your name? Zach seabaugh.
How old are you? I'm 16 years old.
What?! No way! 16? You girls are sick! [ laughter .]
I was shocked by your performance That i was talking to adam at the very end, And i was like, "what is this? This is so different and weird.
" And he just goes [ laughs .]
and then the song was over.
And i missed it.
But i think that you're incredible.
I mean, 16 is ridiculous.
You look like a man.
Thank you.
Do you consider yourself a country artist? Yes, sir.
Okay, in three seasons, i've never had a country artist, So the odds are really stacked against me.
Duh.
But from the very moment that you first started talking, I knew that you were something different.
I would love a shot at working with you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Zach, first, i have a question.
It's a very genuine question.
I would appreciate a very honest answer.
Are you superman? [ laughter .]
because -- [ laughing .]
oh, my god! Because you look like superman, And that's not a 16-year-old's voice.
That's superman's voice.
[ laughter .]
Your voice is seasoned, And it's deeper than mine has ever been at any point.
[ laughter .]
I have no country singers.
And i've won "the voice," and i can win "the voice" again.
But i want to do it With somebody that you would never expect.
And, dude, i don't want to see you get lost in the shuffle Over in country man's house.
Superman don't get lost in the shuffle.
Don't take my superman thing.
That's all i got.
Are you done? Now blake is gonna give you the country mafia pitch.
Exactly.
Where are you from, man? I'm from marietta, georgia.
That's where travis tritt's from.
Here we go.
[ laughs .]
Man, you have something in your voice That just rattled the room.
Super-impressive.
You listen to country radio.
It's important right now To know what the pulse is of country music.
That's what i live for.
Let's get you in that lane with me.
Let's go.
Let's do it, man.
Come on over to my team.
Just make your decision Based on who you think will be the best coach for you.
So lay it on us, zach.
Who do you pick as your coach? [ audience shouting .]
Come on, zach.
You know what the right thing is.
Don't fall for that crap.
I love you guys.
This is crazy.
Holy [ shouting continues .]
I pick blake.
Yes! [ "superman" theme plays .]
This is gonna be a lot of fun, brother.
I'm excited.
I'm excited to be working with you.
It's gonna be a lot of fun.
You got a shot at this thing.
I'm not kidding.
Blake: Zach is gonna be the one that's a dark horse Wow.
Because he's not one of those vocalists That comes out here and just sings a note And blows the roof off the place, But he's one that people are gonna fall in love with.
You got to be kidding me.
Adam: Zach is awesome.
And there was no rattling any of these country guys today.
Like, they went to team blake.
Boring.
Here he is! Oh, my god! [ all cheer .]
The decision not to play football and to sing -- You know, i feel like this validated Everything that i've been doing.
You went to team blake.
Why? Just because of his country roots And everything that he has to offer.
Blake, pharrell, and adam all turned for me, But i've grown up listening to blake and his music, And i just had to lean towards him.
Can you believe that adam -- He said the most ridiculous, stupid stuff i have ever heard.
You use fear tactics.
You use nonsense.
No, i use real things.
"are you superman?" -He said, "are you superman?" -but he looked like superman.
That was funny.
The superman thing was real, and it was funny.
[ laughter .]
I'm gonna get one.
[ laughs .]
It's coming.
Daly: Coming up Come here, come here, come here, come here.
Oh, here we go.
Do you see my eyes? Wow.
Gwen is moved to tears.
We have no chance.
And her passion makes her hard to beat.
Perfect! Perfect for me! Just don't forget that i'm right here.
Whoo-hoo! [ laughs .]
Hey, gwen, go ahead and get the freakin' t-shirt, man.
this is "the voice" get it over with.
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
So far tonight, blake has added two country singers to his team.
-I'm honored that you chose me.
-It's an honor to meet you, man.
Get down here.
Adam and pharrell have each scored one artist, While gwen is still hoping to find The artist she's been looking for.
Let's see if our next artist, 20-year-old evan mckeel from richmond, virginia, Grabs gwen's attention.
I started singing when i was really young.
I was in kids' choir in elementary school.
Later on, i joined youth choir at my church.
That's when i really got used to performing onstage.
When i was about 16, my first gig was at the farmers market.
I made $20, and i think i played 20 songs.
When he first started doing gigs, I asked him to treat what he did like a business Versus a hobby and -- they helped with that.
And i'll never forget one weekend, He went upstairs, he got on the telephone, And he did not come down until he had three gigs booked.
I've been running my music as a business like that About three years.
I play weddings and charity events.
And that's pretty much what i do for a living.
Recently, i've been able to use my music to really help others.
Currently, i play at the windsor memory care center, Which is a home for dementia and alzheimer's patients.
You guys want to sing some songs? All right? i'm so in love with you I'll see someone who might not even remember Who their family is.
it's you and me forever But a song brings memories back.
How did you feel about the music? Did it make you feel better? Oh, yes.
This is a place where i can really make a difference.
It's lovely.
You're good.
Thank you.
[ applause .]
I've been working hard for a few years.
I've been pouring so much into my music.
I would be glad to get any chair turned.
I think any one of these coaches Could help me take my performance to another level.
[ exhales .]
"typical" is the perfect song for me to sing.
The words say what i want to say.
I want to break out of the box And do something you haven't heard before.
I've never had a performance with this much on the line.
There he is.
[ chuckles .]
[ "typical" plays .]
Hey! yeah come on, can i dream for one day? there's nothing that can't be done but how long should it take somebody before they can be someone? 'cause i know there's got to be another level somewhere closer to the other side can i break the spell of the typical? It's good! i'd like to know about when when does it all turn around? Yeah! Whoo! yeah, i know there's got to be another level somewhere closer to the other side and i'm Ohh! feeling like it's now or never can i break the spell of the typical? i'm just the typical the typical i'm just the typical [ cheers and applause .]
Yeah! Whoo! Yeah! Man! [ laughs .]
What's your name? I'm evan mckeel.
I'm 20 years old.
I'm from richmond, virginia.
He looks like he just made it onto "the price is right," Like, jumping around.
I love "the price is right"! Dude, you got better as the performance went on.
And by the end, you saw how the turning of the chairs Proportionately helped your confidence.
And i can't tell you what gold that is for us.
And i'm your man all the way.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All the way.
First of all, i can't tell you how awesome and studly it is That you're wearing two jackets right now at the same time.
I mean, that's like -- "can't decide? Screw it.
I'm wearing both of them.
" [ laughs .]
[ laughs .]
Your stage presence was amazing.
I know when my nervous energy takes over, I have to do everything i can to not freak out, you know? You thrive in it.
It would be a lot of fun To get the chance to work with you, evan.
Thank you.
I couldn't really figure out what style you are, And i like that.
It sounded like kind of rock-alternative, but pop.
I love, like, that collision.
Thank you.
All four of us turned our chairs around Because there's something very unique About the way you sing.
What would it mean for you to, like, advance forward? Just a chance to show that i can do multiple things.
I really love soul -- stevie wonder stuff.
What's your favorite stevie wonder song to sing? "overjoyed," for sure.
Mm! And would you do a verse and the chorus? You got it.
[ "overjoyed" plays .]
Damn.
Wow, that was quick.
over time Ohh! i've been building my castle of love Whoo! [ cheers and applause .]
Oh, my god! built for two though you never knew you were my reason [ laughing .]
oh, my god.
Wow.
maybe, too, if you would believe you, too, might be overjoyed over loving meeeee [ cheers and applause .]
[ laughter .]
Wow! Wait, wait, wait.
Come here.
Come here, come here, come here.
Do you see my eyes? You brought me to tears.
That was so beautiful.
Thank you.
Wow.
Wow.
[ cheers and applause continue .]
I just wanted to see what you had, And you definitely earned your position on this show.
Thank you.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Yeah.
Your ability to have that kind of really elegant response To a very high-pressure question And to nail it like you did -- That's the ship i want to be on.
And you have to pick a coach right now, evan.
Uggh.
[ audience shouting .]
Oh, man.
I have so much ties with all of you.
I grew up on country music.
I'm from virginia.
I love soul.
Me and my buddy jam out to no doubt in the car Every time we get in.
I saw adam live last summer.
Ohh! Geez, man! You guys can't do this to me.
No, you did it! [ audience shouting .]
Please.
I pick Oh! It's so hard.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Before the break, All four coaches pushed their buttons for evan mckeel.
Now evan has the difficult decision of picking his coach.
[ cheers and applause .]
I pick [ audience shouting .]
Oh! It's so hard.
[ shouting continues .]
I pick pharrell.
Oh! ooh, baby, here i am Wow.
signed, sealed, delivered i'm yours Bro.
here i am Dude, your voice is Crazy.
here i am Evan is talented, man.
He had a lot of control that was accompanying that raspy tone.
Whoo! Wow.
I am definitely hoping for another win.
You know, i'm looking for people who are different -- Different tones, stories, and with great ambition.
[ cheers and applause .]
Whooooooo! [ cheers and applause .]
Pharrell is an incredible producer.
He mixes different genres, Which is the number-one thing i want to do with my career.
What's crazy about you asking him to do that Is it showed such a different side to his voice That i didn't know was there.
Yes.
It displayed a really beautiful part of his voice.
That was insane.
Daly: As pharrell celebrates, Let's meet our next artist -- 23-year-old bryan bautista from brooklyn, new york, Who came to "the voice" hoping to make a name for himself.
My family is where i get my love for music.
My parents love bachata, merengue, salsa.
My dad is from the dominican republic, And then my mom, she's puerto rican, So it was just an eclectic household.
Bryan has been singing -- or i should say humming -- Since he's been 6 months old.
When i was 20, I became an usher atn 6 months old.
The barclays center in brooklyn.
I'd help the guests into their seats, And i got to see some major artists sing.
And i thought one day, i'd love to headline barclays center.
See shows there and concerts and sports? Yeah, jay-z, rihanna, beyoncé, paul mccartney, john mayer.
And then eventually, I got the opportunity to sing the national anthem For the brooklyn nets versus new york knicks.
Wow! Yeah.
Crosstown, huge game.
Yeah, "tonight, we have one of our very own, Barclays employee" Bryan bautista.
o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave After i sang the national anthem, the buzz was just crazy.
I was interviewed by the daily news.
It was picked up on "good morning america.
" And it inspired me to take my career to the next level.
What are you singing on this show? "locked out of heaven" by bruno mars.
Oh, great song.
Yeah, man.
You gonna do it in your usher outfit With some popcorn or something? [ laughs .]
no, no, no.
You gonna be throwing some hot dogs while you sing? No, i left that at work.
I left that at work.
I love r&b, and since performing the national anthem, I've been doing open mics, but i don't feel like I've established myself as an artist yet.
Working with the coaches, their years of experience That they could just now pass on to you -- That's the most important thing to me.
It feels kind of surreal.
I just came from working as an usher.
Now i'm out in l.
A.
, chasing my dream.
Okay, here we go! Come on! Come on, bryan! Come on, bryan! [ "locked out of heaven" plays .]
oh, yeah, yeah oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah never had much faith in love or miracles i never wanna put my heart on the line 'cause your sex takes me to paradise yeah, your sex takes me to paradise and it sho-o-ows yeah, yeah, yeah 'cause you make feel like i've been locked out of heaven for too lo-o-o-ong One, two, three! oh, oh, oh, oh yeah, yeah, yeah can't i just stay here? spend the rest of my days here? Ohh! No! Oh, that was great.
It's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay.
[ cheers and applause .]
Hey, man, what's your name? My name is bryan, from brooklyn, new york.
Bruno is a maniac.
Like, trust me, i'm a dude with a high voice, And he makes me mad 'cause his range is crazy.
He's unbelievable.
Pisses me off.
[ laughter .]
You're almost hitting those notes in the beginning, And then by the end, you were nailing those notes.
The problem was, It was just a little squirrelly up until that point.
But, man, you really should come back, 'cause i want you to start where you ended.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
You know, there was too many, i think, tuning moments To, like, take the risk for us 'cause we only get 12 people.
But on the chorus, you locked in in a way that was like, "whoa.
This guy actually is a really good singer.
" Those top notes are really, really strong.
Thank you.
Thank you.
What really matters is when people hear you sing And they know it's something that feels amazing to you.
Sing like it's what you love to do.
Thank you, man.
I appreciate that.
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Come back, bro.
It's about heart.
Yeah.
And you got that, all right? Thank you.
Thank you, man.
Come back.
Good to see you, man.
Gwen: With bryan, it just didn't connect for me.
I think some of the choices that he was making Just didn't feel right, And i'm waiting for something that really moves me.
Daly: Coming up Blake's gonna say a lot of great things.
Don't look him in the eye.
Daly: Our coaches fight harder than ever To win over country artists.
If i go to blake, he's going to help.
That is ridiculous.
Why would you go with a coach That's gonna ask me how to coach you? It makes a lot of sense to me.
And later Aah! An ending that shocks our coaches.
this is "the voice" crazy! Ohh! Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet this next singer -- a tennessee country girl Hoping to stand out from the competition.
I'm emily ann roberts.
I'm 16 years old.
And i'm from knoxville, tennessee.
I've been singing my whole life, But i started performing in seventh grade.
My dad brought an old guitar out of the closet, And i fell in love with it.
And then i did the talent show at my school, and i won.
This is it! This is so cool.
Tommy: Emily's influenced By people like patty loveless, dolly parton, johnny cash.
People say she's got an old soul.
For the past four years, i've been singing in restaurants And doing little small-town competitions.
but i shot a man in reno I get a lot of surprised looks from older people.
They'll be eating dinner, and they'll, like, look up And, like, "is that girl singing 'folsom prison blues'?" Like, it catches them off guard.
I love bluegrass and classic country.
There's just so much emotion in that music.
I haven't really ever taken vocal lessons, So i definitely think that i can learn and grow with a coach.
I'm a really big fan of blake and adam.
Both could give me the opportunity To make a life out of playing music.
I'm just a junior in high school, And this is crazy to be here with the lights and the cameras.
It's kind of overwhelming.
Today, there's not much meaning in music, And i want to create music that means something to people.
I'm counting on you guys to scream the right name.
Okay.
Deep breath, em.
[ "i hope you dance" plays .]
Country song.
hope you never lose your sense of wonder you get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger may you never take one single breath for granted god forbid love ever leave you empty-handed i hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean whenever one door closes, i hope one more opens promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance i hope you dance i hope you dance well, i hope you dance No! i hope you dance i hope you dance [ laughs .]
[ cheers and applause .]
You guys messed up.
Saw! [ cheers and applause .]
I'm so sad right now.
Why are you sad? She's great.
How old are you? What's your name? My name is emily ann roberts, and i'm 16 years old.
Before he chimes in and says a lot of great stuff, He'll make you feel, like, scared to go anywhere else And all that crap.
He's gonna make me look bad.
He's gonna make himself look great.
He is the man when it comes to country.
I get it.
He really is.
He is.
You can stop there.
Uhp! Uhp! You can stop there.
Stop it.
I have zero country artists on my team.
That means you'll have zero competition.
Maybe she does need to pick him.
He has awesome country singers on his team.
They are really good.
I'm proud to have them.
And i would be just as proud and honored to have you.
Blake took a while to turn around.
Because i knew there was a huge, big chorus coming up.
I wanted to hear what you could do with it.
Emily.
Hi.
Hi! [ laughs .]
What are some of your favorite artists? Like, patty loveless and ricky skaggs.
Hello.
Hi.
[ laughter .]
hi.
Here's something that should be alarming to you right now.
I want you to look at adam.
Here's making me look bad.
That's coming now.
Give you a play-by-play.
I want you to ask him who sang that song that you just sang.
That's a lee ann womack song.
Oh! Oh! All right.
Okay.
Looks like i did know that.
Whoops! [ laughs .]
Anyway, i want you to think about who you've heard On country radio in the last couple of years.
You've heard cassadee pope, danielle bradbery.
Cassadee pope did not start off as a country artist.
She actually started off as a pop singer.
Sometimes the thing that doesn't quite fit fits the best.
And i'm telling you right now i have more passion for you, And i hope that you can choose passion over -- Common sense.
No, not common sense.
No, that's not what it is.
It's passion and really wanting you.
I want you more than he does.
That's the most important thing.
Pharrell: Wow.
What are you feeling right now? Country music is something that i absolutely do love With all my heart.
Blake is a very good connection into that.
You'll still have that.
If i go to blake and i say, "emily ann and i are looking for a song," he's going to help.
He may say that's not the case.
Why would you go with a coach that's gonna then Turn around and ask me how to coach you? [ laughter and applause .]
So go with adam Don't let him pretend -- So that he can then ask me what you should do.
And then i can tell him what you should do Sometimes i may.
Sometimes i may.
And then he can go tell you what you should do.
That's smart coaching.
That's intelligent coaching, Is being open and asking people things.
That is ridiculous.
It makes a lot of sense to me.
[ laughter .]
You want a direct connection to country music, Or do you want to have a middleman? Okay, is it time for me to choose? [ laughter .]
Sure.
If you take risks, they'll pay off.
Don't let him scare you.
"scare you"? Yes.
Don't -- I'm embracing her.
I want her to come where she belongs.
Ohh! Emily, who do you pick as your coach? Come on.
[ audience shouting .]
Please.
Give me the chance.
I want to thank y'all both for turning around.
It means a lot to me.
Please.
Don't mess around with this.
Oh, my gosh.
Um, i pick Give me the chance.
Please.
I'm gonna do it.
I'm gonna do it.
I'm sorry.
I pick blake.
Aah! Yes! [ cheers and applause .]
Yes! Yeah! That's right! That is correct! Blake: I love the sound of her voice and the tone.
She absolutely lit the place on fire.
I'm sorry.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Amazing.
Amazing.
Emily: Adam kind of gave blake a little run for his money, But i feel like country music Is something that i really, really love.
And so i just had to -- i just had to go with blake.
[ all cheering .]
[ laughs .]
I am ready to tart working with blake And start getting to work on my dreams.
[ cheers and applause .]
[ pharrell laughs .]
That poor girl.
[ laughter .]
That poor girl.
Emily's got a fantastic voice.
I almost had her.
But i'm gonna get a country artist from blake.
You watch.
It could be the best one, too.
It's gonna be amazing.
The only reason she even considered that Is probably 'cause she has a crush on you.
But even that didn't overpower your idioticy.
I got close to taking her away.
I did.
I got really close.
I got really close.
You make me sick.
I got to go throw up.
[ laughter .]
never woulda loaded up my .
44 put myself behind a jailhouse door Daly: You can listen to full versions Of tonight's blind audition songs on apple music i don't wanna change your mind Daly: Or buy them on itunes.
of the typical? Daly: Still to come we don't have to take our clothes off Daly: More incredible performances.
and di-i-i-ed Daly: And our coaches are all-in.
You have an american appeal.
I would say that we were meant to be.
Yep.
I think you can make it the distance.
I love you, and you should be on my team.
[ laughing .]
oh, my god! this is "the voice" [ cheers and applause .]
Daly: Welcome back.
This next artist is hoping to make a team With her unique style.
My name is ellie lawrence.
I'm 26 years old, and i'm from calhoun, georgia.
The town i grew up in is so itty-bitty.
That's gwen! Blake! The kind of music that's played in calhoun Is country, country, and country.
But i play indie rock, so it made quite a splash.
Gayle: Ellie's always been different.
I don't think there's anybody in town that's got blue hair.
I get stared at and talked about, But it's not like i don't know that this is on my head.
My older brother's always been considered The musician in the family.
He does country music, and he does the fiddle.
He could play anything.
So i didn't feel like i was as good.
I think sometimes she didn't get the recognition.
And it's just good to see her now shining for herself.
I feel like you were meant to be here.
You started it.
My fiancé gave me the courage to play out.
He had a ska-reggae band, and if it hadn't been for him, I would not be standing here right now.
When i met cody, i was a bartender And he'd come in, and he was just so weird.
He got my jokes, and he genuinely liked me.
And we loved the same music, That just kind of sealed the deal for me.
Cody proposed in 2013.
I don't even remember anything that he said.
[ voice breaking .]
i was so happy.
And said yes And it's been wonderful ever since.
Cody and i formed the band one shot ellie.
We're working every weekend, but it's hard 'cause you're fighting for that attention When people come into the bars.
For me, coming into "the voice," I feel like i finally fit somewhere Where i can actually be 100% me as an artist.
The coach i'd love to work with would be gwen.
Gwen is legendary.
Like, she forged a path for female artists in every genre.
For a long time, i felt like i was in my brother's shadow, But after today, i'll have my own spotlight.
I don't have a backup plan.
This is going to work.
It's hard to believe that it's all come down to this moment.
Ooh, i hope i get somebody good right now.
[ "we don't have to take our clothes off" plays slowly .]
not a word from your lips you just took for granted that i want to skinny-dip a quick hit [ cheers and applause .]
that's your game but i'm not a piece of meat Ohh! stimulate my brain the night is young, but so are we let's get to know each other better slow and easily take my hand, let's hit the floor and shake our bodies to the music maybe then you'll score come on, baby, won't you show some class? why you have to move so fast? What is your name? My name is ellie lawrence.
I'm 26, and i'm from calhoun, georgia.
I just want to say a couple things.
I was loving the -- Kind of the way you were dancing around the melodies, And your timing was really cool and different and unique.
The one thing that i'll do is give you some critique, 'cause i think that's my only angle at this point.
I thought you were straining in the higher moments, And i would want to kind of help refine a little bit of it.
Anyway, it was amazing.
I love you, and you should be on my team.
No, but i love you, too.
Thank you.
If it's like 80%-20% or, like, i don't know what it is, But maybe, like, just don't forget that 20%, 'cause i'm right here.
Whoo-hoo! Yeah, and just let me, like, weigh in my little 5%.
90%-10%.
I just wanted to point out that i just loved The way you used the rasp in your voice.
And you being from georgia and having teal-blue hair And being dressed the way you are is so cool.
[ cheers and applause .]

What songs would we have been doing together? I like stuff that really speaks to the heart And you can hear the passion in the person's voice.
Wow.

Can you scan these and send them to me, please? I make a living as a credit-card processor, But music has always been my passion.
Thanks.
When i was 24 years old, I was asked to join a few cover bands in chicago.
My husband was not supportive of me having a career in music, And because of that, we ended up getting a divorce.
The best thing that came out of my marriage Was my little girl, aria.
ohh darlin' She's just a beautiful little soul.
[ giggles .]
When i was married, My music dreams were completely on the back burner.
Mommy, i love you.
And now i think i deserve my chance.
[ laughing .]
thank you, baby.
I would love to be coached And molded into the best artist that i can possibly be.
I'm so thankful And so proud of myself for pushing through everything.
[ sniffles .]
Being a single parent, working throughout the day And gigging at night takes a huge toll on me.
Knowing that i can walk through those doors And change everything, it's just incredible.
There she is! There she is! [ exhales .]
[ "oh! Darling" plays .]

No! Blake: Hello.
Hi.
What's your name? I'm natalie yacovazzi.
There's so much of that performance that was incredible.
But there were other parts of the song That you were singing a little bit sharp on.
It was the only thing that kept me from pushing my button.
Thank you.
Did you enjoy yourself? It's slightly intimidating.
[ laughter .]
Well, thinking sort of gets in the way, And that's where the nerves comes in.
Sing just out of feeling And not necessarily while thinking.
Thanks.
You're an amazing singer.
Once you got into your stronger voice, You had a lot more control.
But the honesty of believing that that's your lyric Wasn't coming through all the way.
I agree.
This is a job you have to keep swinging at.
So it's just about the next swing, really.
I think you did a great job.
Thanks.
I appreciate it.
Thank you.
[ applause .]
Adam: "oh! Darling" is a really challenging song.
You got to be a straight killer to do that vocal, And she fell a little bit short.
Natalie: I got too much in my head.
It was forced.
And i could feel it, and they could feel it.
I love you.
Love you.
I won't be discouraged.
I'll try again.
What did you think? Beautiful.
Thank you, baby.
Daly: Coming up if it eases all her pain Daly: The final performance of the night That guy can sing.
Come home.
Leads to the ultimate country showdown.
Country music is my life.
It appears to be your life, too.
Shania wasn't just on the country charts.
She was also on the pop charts.
Fitting in is boring.
Even blake -- he doesn't fit in.
Look at him, for crying out loud.
[ laughter .]
He's actually got a point there.
this is "the voice" please.
Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet the night's last artist -- A country singer with a lot on the line.
My name is james dupré.
I'm 30 years old.
I'm from bayou chicot, louisiana.
I'm one of six kids, and music was all i thought about.
James has been singing since he first started walking.
I got married when i was 19.
You know, we were high-school sweethearts.
I figured a career in music was really not the safe route to go, So i became a paramedic.
We had four beautiful little boys -- Paul, topher, nicky, and jackson -- But my wife and i divorced after seven years.
We realized that we want to go different directions.
In 2010, i started doing these youtube videos, And then i got an e-mail from "the ellen show.
" Someone sent me you singing on youtube, And i was like, "this guy is fantastic.
" I was like, "man, this is wild," you know? it's 3:00 a.
M.
, i must be lonely Right after "the ellen show" aired, I got a record deal from warner music nashville.
So i moved to nashville, Since that's where i needed to be, But couldn't get any traction going, So they let me go.
I like whenever you come down and visit us.
I know.
Me too.
James: Unfortunately, i can't see my boys as much as i'd like.
They live in louisiana, and i live in nashville.
It's an 11-hour drive.
My music career is something that keeps me on the road a lot.
Okay, let's start out with a "d.
" [ mid-tempo music plays .]
I love my dad because he teaches us how to play the guitar, And he does a lot of good songs.
Yeah.
So, i'm thinking about trying out for "the voice.
" What do you think about that? I think you should.
You should.
Yeah! This is definitely the highlight of my career.
If chairs turn, i would pick blake Because i'a country singer.
But my boys -- they would definitely go with adam.
They love to dance, And i could take some lessons from them, actually.
Whatever happens, i want my boys to be super-proud.
[ chuckling .]
oh, my god.
Give me a good one.
Give me a good one.
[ "let her cry" plays .]
she sits alone by a lamppost trying to find a thought that's escaped her mind [ audience cheers .]
she says dad's the one i love the most [ both screaming .]
that's three chairs! Congratulations! Oh, my god! but stipe's not far behind i say that i don't care i just run my hands through her dark hair and i pray to god, "you gotta help me fly away" and just let her cry if the tears fall down like rain let her sing Come on, blake! Blake! Make it four chairs! if it eases all her pain let her go let her walk right out on me and if the sun comes up tomorrow let her be oh, let her cry if the tears fall down like rain and if the sun comes up tomorrow [ both screaming .]
let her be oh, let her be [ cheers and applause .]
Man! What is your name? My name is james dupré.

What country do you live in? The u.

That's right.
And you have an american appeal.
Just like shania wasn't just on the country charts.
She was also on the pop charts.
I think you're a multifaceted artist.
And i believe i was the first one to say aloud, "that guy can sing.
" I was too busy pressing my button.
[ chuckles .]
It takes a lot to make all four of us turn around.
I mean, your intent, your honesty, The richness of your voice is really attractive.
And just because i'm a girl and i'm not in country Doesn't mean that i don't have the longest career up here.
[ cheers and applause .]
Thank you very much.
Blake: Hey, james.
Is country the path that you feel like you're going down? Yes, i moved to nashville about four years ago, So that's my main genre.
Yeah.
Blake's gonna say a lot of great things, Even though he turned around last.
It took him almost the entire song.
Don't look him in the eyes.
Don't look him in the eyes.
Here's the thing -- every single one of us Didn't make it to where we are today Because we decided to fit into a box.
[ chuckles .]
even blake.
He doesn't fit in.
He never has.
Look at him, for crying out loud.
[ laughter .]
He's actually got a point there.
I'm not gonna Now, fitting in is boring For anyone that wants to be extraordinary.
And i believe that that's what y are.
Thank you very much.
Every single country singer that is good [ chuckles .]
Is on his team.
That's true.
Now You're damn right.
Hold on.
Just hold on a minute.
I do believe that you are better Than the best country singers on this show right now Because there's more to you than just that.
I heard a little bit of james taylor in your voice.
And there's no one that wants to beat him more than me.
[ laughs .]
And there's no person That i want to win it with against him More than a country singer.
I think you can really make it the distance on my team.
[ cheers and applause .]
Who are some of your influences? Vince gill.
Oh, god, yeah.
James taylor, in fact, is somebody that -- Oh.
Interesting that i brought that up.
Thank god i did.
[ laughter .]
Adam's right.
I do have a lot of country singers on my team.
You know why? 'cause i freakin' love country music.
[ cheers and applause .]
That's what i do.
That's what i did since i was a teenager To what i'm doing now that i'm an old bastard.
[ laughter .]
Country music is my life.
It appears to be your life, too, man.
I'll make it my personal responsibility Wow.
To be sure That whatever happens to you after this show, You end up in the right hands.
Wow.
Adam: Well, i would like --- Thank you.
Wow.
I got to say something.
I'm gonna battle you, pal.
'cause it's not just about the pride of beating him.
I'm also someone that loves to work with Someone that might not be exactly like me.
To me, that's the beauty of this show.
[ cheers and applause .]
Who are you gonna pick as your coach? [ audience shouting .]
Who does he pick? I think blake.
Blake? I think.
Who do you think? I don't know.
I'm going adam.

You beat me.
You beat me.

I'm sorry to interrupt.
I'm sorry to interrupt you.
Give me a hug -- another one.
[ laughs .]
I'm so -- listen -- thank you.
I am so excited.
I want you to sing country music.

It's the best out there.
Sitting in that chair, I can't wait for them to sing that first note.
Daly: Last night what did i say? The voice returned Yes! And we welcomed back superstar gwen stefani.
Yes! She joined adam levine, blake shelton, And our reigning champion, coach pharrell williams, For the biggest and best season yet.
Yeah! There will never be another voice like yours.

Duh.

Let's go! [ "rock steady" plays .]
mmmmm-hmmmm rock steady, baby that's what i feel now let's call this song exactly what it is huh it's a funky and low-down feelin' move your hips from left to right what it is is ya might be doin' this funky dance all night whoa, ohhhhh yeah, ohhhhhh rock steady rock steady, babe Come on! move your hips from left and right what it is is ya might be doin' this funky dance all night rock steady rock steady, babe rock steady oh, oh, oh, oh ooooh yeah yeah [ cheers and applause .]
Whoo! Whoo! Wow.
Whoo! Wow.
Wow.
we don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time oh, no we could dance and party all night and drink some cherry wine oh, no [ cheers and applause .]
[ screaming .]
[ cheering .]
No! We have no chance.
You got her.
I hope so.
[ screams .]
Hey, listen, i can't tell you, Like, what it felt like to turn around and be excited, And then a second later, when gwen turns around, You literally scream and point.
[ laughs .]
You were like la, la, la, la, la Yep! Okay.
la, la, la, la, la, la, la [ laughter .]
you know.
Do you know that's the queen of ska, man? -Yeah.
-Oh, my god! Like, she is my idol.
She revolutionized for all women in bands.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That is her right there.
Yeah, i get it.
I'm a huge fan of hers, as well.
Hey, gwen, go ahead and give her the freakin' t-shirt, man.
[ laughter .]
get it over with.
But let's just pretend.
What songs would we have been doing together? I like stuff that really speaks to the heart And you can hear the passion in the person's voice.
Wow.
Perfect! [ cheers and applause .]
perfect for me! That's what i like.
Can i just go through the formality here? Yeah.
Yeah.
Ellie, we're all on the edge of our seats right now.
[ laughs .]
And we're dying to know -- Who are you gonna pick as your coach? [ audience shouting .]
Please! Ellie: Well Since coming from a small town Where it's hard for a girl to sing indie rock, I have no choice but Of course.
To choose To pick Gwen.
No way! Oh, my god! No way! [ screams .]
Yes! Yes! who got the lighter? let's spark the fire Oh, my god, i cannot believe this! This is crazy.
Ellie -- i'm so excited about her.
We're gonna have so much fun together.
So much fun together.
Whoo! [ laughs .]
[ chuckles .]
that's so awesome.
Her doing that song the way that she did Was, like, right up my alley, and i feel She's someone i'm really gonna be able to be creative with.
Yay! [ cheers and applause .]
whoo! Wait! Your shirt! You forgot your shirt! Gwen stefani turned around for me -- You forgot your shirt.
Ohh! Yeah! [ laughs .]
[ laughs .]
Whoo! I love it.
I'm so excited.
I was so excited, i forgot to give you your shirt.
Congratulations.
Yay! This is gonna be so fun.
It is! Oh, my gosh! Here she is, everybody.
[ screams .]
How about that? Team gwen.
This moment right here is the best moment of my life so far -- [ gasps .]
besides being engaged to you.
[ laughs .]
They're tied.
They're tied.
Daly: As the night went on, Gwen continued to find special talent And scored berklee school of music student Noah jackson well, i've got thick skin and an elastic heart You have so much dynamics, Where you can go really soft and dramatic, And i love that.
This dude's gonna be a big deal.
[ cheers and applause .]
i appreciate it.
Daly: Indie pop artist tim atlas give a little time to me we'll burn this out Wow.
I just love how you want to really deliver your heart.
I would say that we were meant to be.
Thank you.
i want you close, i want you Daly: And singer-songwriter hanna ashbrook.
Gwen: I'm so excited.
There was just something about your voice that -- It felt like a true artist's voice.

I know.

When i was 24 years old, I was asked to join a few cover bands in chicago.
My husband was not supportive of me having a career in music, And because of that, we ended up getting a divorce.
The best thing that came out of my marriage Was my little girl, aria.

I'm so thankful And so proud of myself for pushing through everything.
[ sniffles .]
Being a single parent, working throughout the day And gigging at night takes a huge toll on me.
