I need you to help my
mom for Mother's Day.
She's the best mom in the world.
And I need you guys' help
to make her feel good.
How giving and thoughtful.
She wants to nominate
her mom for Mother's Day.
She's so cute.

They call me the queen ♪
All right, guys. So our
hero this week is Jen'ya.
- Yay!
- Yay, Jen'ya.

"She is a 33-year-old single mother
to a bright and vivacious
nine-year-old, Kemora."
Yeah, we just saw.
[WOMAN] I've always wanted
to be a mother and a wife.
Like, that is it. That's it.
"Jen'ya has worked in roles in Las
Vegas' Women's Shelter Community."
She's giving back.
'Cause at her job, like, she helps
people get, like, homes and stuff.
I think that what she does.
[JEN'YA] I've worked with several
organizations here in Las Vegas
in case management with women who
are victims of domestic violence,
human trafficking, and
general homelessness.
[KEMORA KISSES]
- Time to get ready for school.
- Time to get ready for work.
I really have a passion
for that line of work
because it's personal to me.
I've been a victim of sexual abuse.
I've been homeless.
And I also have been a
victim of domestic violence.
So when I connect with these women,
it's not me up here and them down here.
It's us right here
together. And we're growing.
"Late last year, Jen'ya
became a single mother
when her husband just suddenly left."
[BREATHES DEEPLY]
Hold on. Sorry.
Um
Basically, um, my husband decided
that he no longer wanted to be married.
He no longer wanted our family.
I've been through a lot in life,
but I feel like that
was the hardest time.
"Their divorce forced her
to move out of her apartment,
and she had nowhere to go."
- Gosh.
- "Overnight."
Couldn't afford it with, like, paying
rent and paying bills and stuff.
I cried and I cried
and I cried, and I said,
"Where are we gonna go?
Where are we gonna go?"
We moved out.
And I think that was the
scariest day of my life.
"Her and her daughter
moved into a local shelter."
- Whoa.
- Whoa.
We stayed there for a few weeks.
I went from home to husband.
And so not having, like, that
safety of, like, my husband
in figuring out life in this place
where I don't have, like,
no family, like, nobody.
It was scary.
But by the grace of God, I'm doing it.
"A temporary job at a
local women's organization
helped her get back on her feet."
"And she and Kemora just moved into
their first apartment on their own."
- Now, that's amazing.
- Wow.
"Giving her daughter a
home was her top priority."
"And now finding stability
is Jen'ya's biggest concern."
Of course it is.
"Kemora is her mom's
biggest cheerleader."
My mom is like my BFF
because she, like, does
stuff that my friends do.
My hot-girl summer is coming up ♪

I tell my mom all the time
that she's the best mom ever.
I was a best friend role
for my mother growing up.

as somebody who was raised by
one for the first half of my life.
And the fact that her
daughter put her up for this
as an opportunity to
celebrate her for Mother's Day,
it's the sweetest thing I've ever heard.
Your daughter is so incredibly adorable.
She's adorable.
- Kemora!
- She's an angel.
Where is she right now?
- At school.
- [JEREMIAH] Okay.
Oh my God. Also, I love your shoes.

- [TAN] I know you do.

My first impression of Jen'ya
may sound shady, but it's not.
She just look exhausted. She look
like she been through some things.
And she's ready for
somebody to help her out.

into this place a little recently.
It's very bare-bones.
The good news is I love

everywhere it could possibly be.

Because faith makes all
things possible, okay?
Jen'ya and Jesus, they are like this.
Okay, so explain the TVs.
That TV was a gift that
doesn't really work.
- That I got from an old boss.
- Trying to do something nice.
[JEN'YA] Also doesn't work.
Then there's a third TV in our room
- Which does work.
- Does not.
Damn it.
Where do you hang out?
This table right here is
our multipurpose table.
That's our homework, kitchen table.
So we usually clear
it off to eat dinner.
And we sit right there
'cause we don't have chairs.
- You guys just moved in here, right?
- Yeah.
So I'm sure you're trying
to find ways to save money.
You don't wanna go and just
purchase everything new. You can't.
- I am in between jobs, yes.
- [JEREMIAH] Okay.
So it's heavy. There's a lot going on.
And also, I think the
biggest thing is, like,
navigating being a single mother.
- 'Cause I have no idea what I'm doing.
- [JEREMIAH] Oh yeah.
I've been a single parent. I've
been through a lot of hard times.
I get it. This can be overwhelming.
And I wanna be here to support her
so she knows she's not
alone in this process.
- That's why we're here.
- This is our room.
[JONATHAN] That is a sensual headboard.

- This is Kemora's side.
- [KARAMO] Great size room.
- [JEN'YA] She don't sleep in her bed.
- She sleeps with me.
- Why?
She doesn't like her bed. She
said that the plastic is squishy.
That's 'cause it is.
- It's not comfortable, so she

Well, because she's a kid
and I didn't want her to spill
stuff on her mattress, and I was

like somebody old granny,
having the plastic on the furniture.

- Literally turned into my grandma Eileen.
What I do love, 'cause it
really touches my spirit
because I'm is all these prayers.
This is a beautiful example
of a Christian woman embracing
all different types of people.
- [ANTONI] Yeah, it is.
- Leading with love, which we love.
Because love, okay? God didn't
say "judge," he said "love."
- That's what he said.

It's just beautiful how much
Jen'ya's faith means to her.
And I think especially as a
member of the queer community,
people of faith scare me a
lot because it's not inclusive.
And to be included in her
faith is just very impactful.
[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]
- [JEN'YA] Let's go to the kitchen.
- [ANTONI] Mm-hmm.
Here she is.
[JEN'YA] So let me explain.
I'm gonna be honest, like, I
don't do much cooking these days.
- I haven't
- [ANTONI] So what do you do for food?
- Like, how do you
- Like, fast food.
How many dinners a week would you
say out of seven are fast food?
- Seven.
- Seven.
Honestly, it's been really
hard for me to cook dinner
because we don't have, like, a
we don't have, like, a kitchen table.
- [ANTONI] Yeah.
- So it don't really feel like dinner.
Because you don't have the
table, you just decided, like,
we're just gonna do fast food and
just kind of, like, not go there.
It makes you emotional. It's
something important to you
that you wanna do for her.
I do. I want her to have good
childhood, like, memories.
Yeah.
Cooking with Mom and
putting dinner on the table
and sitting down and
have Cookie in her chair.
- It's sacred. Right?
- Yeah, that's what it is. And so
I'm sure you have those
memories with your mom, right?
I don't remember ever sitting at
the dinner table with my family.
And the things I do with her are
the things I longed for as a child
that I didn't have.
This is a woman who's,
like, truly doing her best
to make sure that she can
support herself and her daughter.
And that makes me wanna
help her all the more.
We used to live here five years
ago upstairs with her father.
- No!
- What?!
- Same complex?
- The same complex.
- Okay.
- I drove around all of Las Vegas.
And I applied for over 15 apartments.
And I got denied for every single one.
And I just kept hearing,
"Come to this place."
And I was like, "Okay, I'mma try
my luck with my last 40 dollars."
So I apply with the,
you know, the 40 dollars.
And, like, five minutes
later, I got approved.
Where were you living while
applying for the house?
In a shelter.
How was that?
The biggest part of it was super
humbling, but also super embarrassing,
is that I'm in the shelter with
women who used to be my clients.
They're like, "Jen'ya,
what're you doing here?"
And I'm like, "I'm homeless."
Like, and they're like,
"But you had the house
and the husband and the family."
"Like, how did you get here?"
And I'm just like, "I don't know."
Being in that situation
really helped me understand
the population that I
serve on a different level.
Have you ever, like, walked around
and, like, dreamt up what you
would do to the house if you could?
Honestly, no.
- [JEREMIAH] Let's go dream it up.
- Okay.
Go. I'm gonna do more creeping.
- Okay.
- Come sit with me for a minute.
- Let's dream.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
I've never had furniture, so I
don't know where to begin with that.
I do really enjoy the living room
because we spend a lot of time here,
you know, 'cause we do homework here.
Then just spending time with my daughter
while she tells me about her day.
And then we, like, throw
our little blankets on,
and we just cuddle.
There's a lot of pink and purple around.
- Pink is my daughter's favorite.
- Okay.
- And purple is my favorite.
- Okay.
Okay. So we're talking modern,
feminine, but soft, elegant.
You are so good. Yes,
that's exactly it. That's me.
And then what about Kemora? Will
you just give me what's she into?
I saw a mirror, vanity, makeup.
Is it makeup or skincare?
- Both.
- Okay, got it.
- Nails.
- I know that. Nails. The press-ons.
My daughter's obsessed
with them too. [CHUCKLES]
- Nine's so hard.
- Nine is hard.
- [JEREMIAH] You're doing it on your own.
- Yes.
I was raised by a single mother.
Toughest woman I know, in the best way.
Yeah. I feel like that's what
I'm evolving into, for sure.
My mother worked tirelessly my
entire life, three-plus jobs.
And I'm really looking forward
to giving Jen'ya the home
that these two deserve.
This week, I really want
you to walk into this house
and feel proud of what you've created.

[JEREMIAH] Oh.

Okay. Not very organized.

That is a little
Teletubby-ish. We don't love that.

They make mini M&Ms?
So this is what we call a hodgepodge.
I can't figure out what you're into.
So professionally, I wanna look
clean. I want to look executive.
I wanna walk in the room and
they say, "That's the boss."
I do work with, like in
case management, with women,
you know, that need to see an
example of a well-put-together woman
because they are not there yet.
But they need to have that
- [TAN] Working towards it.
- Correct.
- So you are beautiful.
- [JEN'YA] Thank you.
Your body is gorgeous. I know
this is a difficult area for you.
- It's very difficult.
- I know.
Are you finding when
you look for clothes
that they can house your bosoms?
- Sometimes.
- Okay.
But also, it looks better in my
head than it looks on my body.
When was the last time you felt gorge?
[SHUDDERS]
I don't know.
It's been, like, since I had my daughter
'cause, like, you know, after I had her,
obviously, like, my
body don't look the same.
You get told like, "Oh, you're
fat. You're unattractive."
- You start to believe it.
- Yeah.
- It becomes your identity, you know?
- [TAN] Yeah.
Like, I know this is not me.
[VOICE BREAKING] But I also don't know.
[TAN] I'm sorry.
You know, though
We're gonna get you back
to feeling your very best.
If I do nothing else this week,
all I need is for you to look
in the mirror at some point
and see what you used to see.
I don't look in the mirror. So I
gotta build up courage to do that.
Okay. But we need to work on that.
I wanna put you in something
that makes you feel like,
"I wanna look in that mirror."
Yes.
Mmm.
That's a lot of tabs.
She's been doing the work.
Now, how do you like to
express yourself with your hair?
I usually wear a twist or a braid.
I love, like, a good wet
and wavy type of thing.
Like some inches. I don't know.
Who doesn't love inches? Who
doesn't love wet and wavy?
And as a non-binary person, I
love a little bit of both, okay?
I impulse-bought two really nice
wigs that are really expensive,
and they're long and
slutty and gorgeous.
I'm excited.
- We're so excited for this week.

Okay, so I wanna know, how is
everything you're dealing with
making your relationship
with your daughter?
[JEN'YA] We can spend
so much time together.
We have gotten so close.
But figuring out how to navigate life
and also figuring out how to
still be a mother while working,
and then still trying to
find time for me, which is
It's been a roller coaster.
See, this thing about a single
parent, 'cause I was a single parent,
I understand that
roadmap no one gives you.
You still like, "I'm
trying to figure out me."
"And I gotta figure out you.
I gotta figure out this bill."
Correct. And the bills
don't stop. They keep coming.
Does she often break down, or
does she keep up the strong front?
She keeps up the strong
front. She's very emotional.
Um, but for different reasons.
Like, "Mom, I can't get my press-on on."
But I know that her emotions are
just coming out in the wrong ways
'cause she doesn't know how
to process her emotions, so

A mother-daughter connection is so cute.

Anytime we can celebrate
moms, we gotta take it.
So this week, I wanna give
Jen'ya the love she deserves.
What a gorgeous expression
of Mother's Day love. Ah!
[KARAMO] Jen'ya's scared that
she's not doing a good enough job.
And that can be a lot of
pressure on a single mom.
And so my goal this
week is to empower her
so she feels confident
in knowing she has this.
[JEREMIAH] We're all
one circumstance away
from being in the same
position that she's in.
And so I'm really looking
forward to giving Jen'ya the break
that she has not had for a while.
[ANTONI] All she wants is basically
to create a foundation of happy memories
with her daughter where she gets to sit
and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
So that's exactly what
I'm gonna help her do.
My mission this week with Jen'ya
is to get her to a point where
she can look in the mirror and say,
"I like what I see,"
and know that she is
worthy of all of our love.

- It's spaghetti.
- We're making spaghetti and meatballs.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
I wanna make something that
makes you happy, obviously Kemora.
So with the situation you're in
right now, you're in between jobs,
I wanted to be conscious of using
ingredients that are accessible.
Groceries are very expensive, but
I definitely want to, like, cook.
Like, I want to make meals
that are, like, hearty
and soulful and tasteful
that she can sit at the table, and like,
"Mom, this is so good. I love it."
And then that I love too, you know?
That's literally what we're here to do.
- Yes. Yes.
- Okay?
This is my favorite
recipe for a tomato sauce.
It's basically a
three-ingredient tomato sauce.
This is how easy it is.
So in a pan,
you're gonna go ahead and
grab those two onion halves.
Onion is gonna flavor the tomato sauce,
but we're not gonna have onion in it.
Apparently, the texture of
onion is a big thing for kids
'cause it's kind of,
like, slimy and slippery.
I know this feels like a lot.
But it's gonna make a lot of sauce
and stretch you for a couple of meals.
So instead of adding salt,
it's actually salted butter.
And then a whole can
of crushed tomatoes.
What does sauce look like for
you at home when you make it?
I just use, like,
from the grocery store.
- In the little bottle.
- A jar.
I think a can of tomatoes that
doesn't have any ingredients in it
is probably gonna be less expensive.
- Yeah.
- An onion.
Butter is probably the most
expensive ingredient here.
And I think this would taste better too.
I mean, tastes better.
You're aware of what you're
putting into your body.
- And I get to put my own love in it.
- [ANTONI] Yeah.
- Do you like cheese?
- [JEN'YA] I love cheese.
[ANTONI] Great. So,
if you have Parmesan,
that waxy rind, it's not edible,
but it is packed with so much flavor.
I add that to the sauce and this
literally goes on the burner.
I'm gonna put it on
medium, medium-low heat.
That's our sauce.
- We're gonna let it sit and do its thing.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
What's more iconic than
spaghetti and meatballs?
- We're cooking the pasta now.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
I feel like every kid loves it,
including the Lady and the Tramp.
So this is one package of
dark meat ground turkey.
And we're gonna start by
cracking an egg in there.
And it's something she
can make time and again.
And Kemora can even help her with it.
Breadcrumbs. So I really
hope that she likes it.
Garlic powder. Plop
the oregano in there.
We have chili flakes.
[JEN'YA] Love it.
- And then a little bit of cheese.
- [JEN'YA] Cheese.
- [ANTONI] Everything's better cheesy.
- Cheese, it's got me in a choke hold.
It makes me so happy. Parsley.
Zucchini, okay?
Kids usually aren't a big fan of it.
We're gonna sneak some vegetables in.
- [JEN'YA] This'll be interesting.
- Yeah.
So many people that I
meet are often saying like,
"I wanna recreate the experience
that I had as a child for my kid."
And with you, it was sort of like,
"No, I didn't have this, so I
wanna make sure that she has that."
Absolutely. Like barriers in my life,
I am determined that they
will not be for Kemora.
[ANTONI] Plop all of it into our bowl.
- [JEN'YA] Okay. Mix it up?
- Yes, ma'am.
[JEN'YA] It's meatball time.
So you're gonna go ahead
and plop all those out.
- [JEN'YA] Too much?
- That's perfect.
This is where we remove the
onions and the Parmesan peel.
- [JEN'YA] And it smells amazing.
- [ANTONI] Right?
[JEN'YA] Smells heavenly.
So being a single mom,
like, what's your biggest
fear about Kemora?
[JEN'YA] I had my dad all my life,
so it's really hard for me to understand
how she could possibly be feeling.
It's very difficult.
And how's, like, your
journey with where you're at
after, like, the breakup
and all of that with him?
I'd never imagined
life without my husband.
It's still very those
nights where I'm just up
and I'm just crying
like, this is it's a lot.
- [ANTONI] It's a process.
- It is.
[ANTONI] But, like,
you've literally been,
like, single-handedly raising a child.
Yeah.
[ANTONI] I want you to remember
to be gentle with yourself.
Um, so these are gonna go in 400
degrees, about 15-ish minutes.
- Okay.
- [ANTONI] So I'm gonna plop these in here.
Now I'm gonna grab a little one.
And basically, you
wanna hold it like this.
So I'm gonna take a little
ladle of the pasta water.
I'm gonna go ahead and add that.
It feels weird, like
thinning out the sauce,
but we're actually thickening it.
All right, let's check on our meatballs.
Great, we have those beautiful browned
edges. I'm very happy with that.
We're gonna go ahead and add these in.
And you're gonna continue mixing.
Perfect.

Perfect.

This is tricky because I'm trying
to hide as much as possible.

But there is something
I wanted to do with you
I thought would be important.

How does it feel just with, like, a
fresh coat of paint in here so far?
- It already looks so different.

Wow.
We're not here to
talk about any of that,
because there's a couple
things that happened yesterday
that got me thinking.
Um, so there's this book, and I
was obsessed with it growing up.
And it was this little boy
who had a purple crayon.
And he would basically
draw the life he wanted.
He would draw a house.
He would draw a bed.
And at the end of the book,
everything he draws comes to life.
And it made me think about you.
You have all of these
protection prayers.
And I liked the idea of us
going through, you and I, today,
and writing what you
want this house to be
and what it means to you and what
it needs to be for your daughter.
I'm gonna put paper or paint over it,
but it's the point is that
it's here, and it's always here.
- Yeah?
- I'm ready.
So the first word that
I wanna write is "love."
Go for it.
[JEN'YA SIGHS]
Anything that you wanna remind yourself.
Anything that you want for your
daughter to know and to feel.
Joy.
We got to have Jesus at the top.
And we gotta have some peace.
This is a story that so
many single mothers navigate.
The hurdles of everyday life.
The responsibilities of being
there as a nurturer, as a provider.
I wanted the space to hold
onto all of these intentions.
Let's write a couple
of things to Kemora.
[JEN'YA SIGHS]
Love, Mom.
It may not be taped up, but
it's baked into the walls now.
What are you feeling?
[SIGHS]
Joy, happiness, hope.
[VOICE BREAKING] I haven't
felt hope in so long.
[SIGHS] It's just overwhelming
because I never had this,
like people who genuinely
don't even know me
but care about me, you know, so
Kind of wild to see it in writing.
And this will be here always.
[UPLIFTING MUSIC PLAYING]
[JEN'YA] I feel myself
coming back to life.

And it's so clear that she thinks
that they make it really hard to dress.
But she still gets to
feel gorgeous in her body.
I'm going to help her see that's
possible with the right clothing.
The only way I can really get you
to a point that I wanna get you to
is by really understanding
where we are now.
The thing that really concerned
me was your perception of yourself.

because she has unfortunately seen
the hell that I have gone through.

"How do I become secure?"
So the next time she says, "Mom,
I gotta get in bed with you."
"Mom, I can't go," say, "It's okay."
"Mom will be safe,
and you'll be secure."

Because that attachment of
"I don't wanna leave you, Mom"
is not just your safety.
It's also her security.
To be honest, it's a
very painful situation
and not many people understand.

should be over it by now."

[WOMAN] I've always wanted
to be a mother and a wife.
Like, that is it. That's it.
"Jen'ya has worked in roles in Las
Vegas' Women's Shelter Community."
She's giving back.
'Cause at her job, like, she helps
people get, like, homes and stuff.
I think that what she does.
[JEN'YA] I've worked with several
organizations here in Las Vegas
in case management with women who
are victims of domestic violence,
human trafficking, and
general homelessness.
[KEMORA KISSES]

- Time to get ready for work.
I really have a passion
for that line of work
because it's personal to me.
I've been a victim of sexual abuse.
I've been homeless.
And I also have been a
victim of domestic violence.
So when I connect with these women,
it's not me up here and them down here.
It's us right here
together. And we're growing.
"Late last year, Jen'ya
became a single mother
when her husband just suddenly left."

Basically, um, my husband decided
that he no longer wanted to be married.
He no longer wanted our family.
I've been through a lot in life,
but I feel like that
was the hardest time.
"Their divorce forced her
to move out of her apartment,
and she had nowhere to go."
- Gosh.
- "Overnight."
Couldn't afford it with, like, paying
rent and paying bills and stuff.
I cried and I cried
and I cried, and I said,
"Where are we gonna go?
Where are we gonna go?"
We moved out.
And I think that was the
scariest day of my life.
"Her and her daughter
moved into a local shelter."
- Whoa.
- Whoa.
We stayed there for a few weeks.
I went from home to husband.
And so not having, like, that
safety of, like, my husband
in figuring out life in this place
where I don't have, like,
no family, like, nobody.
It was scary.
But by the grace of God, I'm doing it.
"A temporary job at a
local women's organization
helped her get back on her feet."
"And she and Kemora just moved into
their first apartment on their own."
- Now, that's amazing.
- Wow.
"Giving her daughter a
home was her top priority."
"And now finding stability
is Jen'ya's biggest concern."
Of course it is.
"Kemora is her mom's
biggest cheerleader."
My mom is like my BFF
because she, like, does
stuff that my friends do.

navigating being a single mother.

I've been a single parent. I've
been through a lot of hard times.
I get it. This can be overwhelming.
And I wanna be here to support her
so she knows she's not
alone in this process.

really touches my spirit
because I'm is all these prayers.
This is a beautiful example
of a Christian woman embracing
all different types of people.

say "judge," he said "love."

It's just beautiful how much
Jen'ya's faith means to her.
And I think especially as a
member of the queer community,
people of faith scare me a
lot because it's not inclusive.
And to be included in her
faith is just very impactful.

[JEN'YA] So let me explain.
I'm gonna be honest, like, I
don't do much cooking these days.
- I haven't
- [ANTONI] So what do you do for food?
- Like, how do you
- Like, fast food.
How many dinners a week would you
say out of seven are fast food?
- Seven.
- Seven.
Honestly, it's been really
hard for me to cook dinner
because we don't have, like, a
we don't have, like, a kitchen table.
- [ANTONI] Yeah.
- So it don't really feel like dinner.
Because you don't have the
table, you just decided, like,
we're just gonna do fast food and
just kind of, like, not go there.
It makes you emotional. It's
something important to you
that you wanna do for her.
I do. I want her to have good
childhood, like, memories.
Yeah.
Cooking with Mom and
putting dinner on the table
and sitting down and
have Cookie in her chair.
- It's sacred. Right?
- Yeah, that's what it is. And so
I'm sure you have those
memories with your mom, right?
I don't remember ever sitting at
the dinner table with my family.
And the things I do with her are
the things I longed for as a child
that I didn't have.
This is a woman who's,
like, truly doing her best
to make sure that she can
support herself and her daughter.
And that makes me wanna
help her all the more.
We used to live here five years
ago upstairs with her father.
- No!
- What?!
- Same complex?
- The same complex.
- Okay.
- I drove around all of Las Vegas.
And I applied for over 15 apartments.
And I got denied for every single one.
And I just kept hearing,
"Come to this place."
And I was like, "Okay, I'mma try
my luck with my last 40 dollars."
So I apply with the,
you know, the 40 dollars.
And, like, five minutes
later, I got approved.
Where were you living while
applying for the house?
In a shelter.
How was that?
The biggest part of it was super
humbling, but also super embarrassing,
is that I'm in the shelter with
women who used to be my clients.
They're like, "Jen'ya,
what're you doing here?"
And I'm like, "I'm homeless."
Like, and they're like,
"But you had the house
and the husband and the family."
"Like, how did you get here?"
And I'm just like, "I don't know."
Being in that situation
really helped me understand
the population that I
serve on a different level.
Have you ever, like, walked around
and, like, dreamt up what you
would do to the house if you could?
Honestly, no.
- [JEREMIAH] Let's go dream it up.

I've never had furniture, so I
don't know where to begin with that.
I do really enjoy the living room
because we spend a lot of time here,

Then just spending time with my daughter
while she tells me about her day.
And then we, like, throw
our little blankets on,
and we just cuddle.
There's a lot of pink and purple around.
- Pink is my daughter's favorite.
- Okay.
- And purple is my favorite.
- Okay.
Okay. So we're talking modern,
feminine, but soft, elegant.
You are so good. Yes,
that's exactly it. That's me.
And then what about Kemora? Will
you just give me what's she into?
I saw a mirror, vanity, makeup.
Is it makeup or skincare?
- Both.

- I know that. Nails. The press-ons.
My daughter's obsessed

I was raised by a single mother.
Toughest woman I know, in the best way.
Yeah. I feel like that's what
I'm evolving into, for sure.
My mother worked tirelessly my
entire life, three-plus jobs.
And I'm really looking forward
to giving Jen'ya the home
that these two deserve.
This week, I really want
you to walk into this house
and feel proud of what you've created.

I do work with, like in
case management, with women,
you know, that need to see an
example of a well-put-together woman
because they are not there yet.
But they need to have that

this is a difficult area for you.
- It's very difficult.

Are you finding when
you look for clothes
that they can house your bosoms?
- Sometimes.

But also, it looks better in my
head than it looks on my body.
When was the last time you felt gorge?

I don't know.
It's been, like, since I had my daughter
'cause, like, you know, after I had her,
obviously, like, my
body don't look the same.
You get told like, "Oh, you're
fat. You're unattractive."
- You start to believe it.
- Yeah.
- It becomes your identity, you know?

Like, I know this is not me.
[VOICE BREAKING] But I also don't know.
[TAN] I'm sorry.
You know, though
We're gonna get you back
to feeling your very best.
If I do nothing else this week,
all I need is for you to look
in the mirror at some point
and see what you used to see.
I don't look in the mirror. So I
gotta build up courage to do that.

parent, 'cause I was a single parent,
I understand that
roadmap no one gives you.
You still like, "I'm
trying to figure out me."
"And I gotta figure out you.
I gotta figure out this bill."
Correct. And the bills
don't stop. They keep coming.
Does she often break down, or
does she keep up the strong front?
She keeps up the strong
front. She's very emotional.
Um, but for different reasons.
Like, "Mom, I can't get my press-on on."
But I know that her emotions are
just coming out in the wrong ways
'cause she doesn't know how
to process her emotions, so

So this week, I wanna give
Jen'ya the love she deserves.
What a gorgeous expression

pressure on a single mom.
And so my goal this
week is to empower her
so she feels confident
in knowing she has this.

one circumstance away
from being in the same
position that she's in.
And so I'm really looking
forward to giving Jen'ya the break
that she has not had for a while.
[ANTONI] All she wants is basically
to create a foundation of happy memories
with her daughter where she gets to sit
and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
So that's exactly what
I'm gonna help her do.
My mission this week with Jen'ya
is to get her to a point where
she can look in the mirror and say,
"I like what I see,"
and know that she is
worthy of all of our love.

I wanna make something that
makes you happy, obviously Kemora.
So with the situation you're in
right now, you're in between jobs,
I wanted to be conscious of using
ingredients that are accessible.
Groceries are very expensive, but
I definitely want to, like, cook.
Like, I want to make meals
that are, like, hearty
and soulful and tasteful
that she can sit at the table, and like,
"Mom, this is so good. I love it."
And then that I love too, you know?
That's literally what we're here to do.
- Yes. Yes.
- Okay?
This is my favorite
recipe for a tomato sauce.
It's basically a
three-ingredient tomato sauce.
This is how easy it is.
So in a pan,
you're gonna go ahead and
grab those two onion halves.
Onion is gonna flavor the tomato sauce,
but we're not gonna have onion in it.
Apparently, the texture of
onion is a big thing for kids
'cause it's kind of,
like, slimy and slippery.
I know this feels like a lot.
But it's gonna make a lot of sauce
and stretch you for a couple of meals.
So instead of adding salt,
it's actually salted butter.
And then a whole can
of crushed tomatoes.
What does sauce look like for
you at home when you make it?
I just use, like,
from the grocery store.
- In the little bottle.
- A jar.
I think a can of tomatoes that
doesn't have any ingredients in it
is probably gonna be less expensive.
- Yeah.
- An onion.
Butter is probably the most
expensive ingredient here.
And I think this would taste better too.
I mean, tastes better.
You're aware of what you're
putting into your body.
- And I get to put my own love in it.
- [ANTONI] Yeah.
- Do you like cheese?
- [JEN'YA] I love cheese.
[ANTONI] Great. So,
if you have Parmesan,
that waxy rind, it's not edible,
but it is packed with so much flavor.
I add that to the sauce and this
literally goes on the burner.
I'm gonna put it on
medium, medium-low heat.
That's our sauce.
- We're gonna let it sit and do its thing.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
What's more iconic than
spaghetti and meatballs?
- We're cooking the pasta now.
- [JEN'YA] Okay.
I feel like every kid loves it,
including the Lady and the Tramp.
So this is one package of
dark meat ground turkey.
And we're gonna start by
cracking an egg in there.
And it's something she
can make time and again.
And Kemora can even help her with it.
Breadcrumbs. So I really
hope that she likes it.
Garlic powder. Plop
the oregano in there.
We have chili flakes.
[JEN'YA] Love it.
- And then a little bit of cheese.
- [JEN'YA] Cheese.
- [ANTONI] Everything's better cheesy.
- Cheese, it's got me in a choke hold.

Kids usually aren't a big fan of it.

So many people that I
meet are often saying like,
"I wanna recreate the experience
that I had as a child for my kid."
And with you, it was sort of like,
"No, I didn't have this, so I
wanna make sure that she has that."
Absolutely. Like barriers in my life,
I am determined that they
will not be for Kemora.
[ANTONI] Plop all of it into our bowl.

- Yes, ma'am.

So you're gonna go ahead
and plop all those out.

This is where we remove the

So being a single mom,
like, what's your biggest
fear about Kemora?
[JEN'YA] I had my dad all my life,
so it's really hard for me to understand
how she could possibly be feeling.
It's very difficult.
And how's, like, your
journey with where you're at
after, like, the breakup
and all of that with him?
I'd never imagined
life without my husband.
It's still very those
nights where I'm just up
and I'm just crying
like, this is it's a lot.
- [ANTONI] It's a process.
- It is.
[ANTONI] But, like,
you've literally been,
like, single-handedly raising a child.
Yeah.
[ANTONI] I want you to remember
to be gentle with yourself.
Um, so these are gonna go in 400
degrees, about 15-ish minutes.

- [ANTONI] So I'm gonna plop these in here.
Now I'm gonna grab a little one.
And basically, you
wanna hold it like this.
So I'm gonna take a little
ladle of the pasta water.
I'm gonna go ahead and add that.
It feels weird, like
thinning out the sauce,
but we're actually thickening it.

things that happened yesterday
that got me thinking.
Um, so there's this book, and I
was obsessed with it growing up.
And it was this little boy
who had a purple crayon.
And he would basically
draw the life he wanted.
He would draw a house.
He would draw a bed.
And at the end of the book,
everything he draws comes to life.
And it made me think about you.
You have all of these
protection prayers.
And I liked the idea of us
going through, you and I, today,
and writing what you
want this house to be
and what it means to you and what
it needs to be for your daughter.
I'm gonna put paper or paint over it,
but it's the point is that
it's here, and it's always here.

I wanna write is "love."

The hurdles of everyday life.

there as a nurturer, as a provider.

onto all of these intentions.

felt hope in so long.

because I never had this,
like people who genuinely
don't even know me
but care about me, you know, so
Kind of wild to see it in writing.

is by really understanding
where we are now.
The thing that really concerned
me was your perception of yourself.

because she has unfortunately seen
the hell that I have gone through.

her trying to figure out,
"How do I become secure?"
So the next time she says, "Mom,
I gotta get in bed with you."
"Mom, I can't go," say, "It's okay."
"Mom will be safe,
and you'll be secure."

Because that attachment of
"I don't wanna leave you, Mom"
is not just your safety.
It's also her security.
To be honest, it's a
very painful situation
and not many people understand.

should be over it by now."
