Heartland (CA) s09e08 Episode Script

Reckless Abandon

Amy: Previously on "Heartland" Georgie, hey! What're you doing? He wanted out, so I'm gonna follow him.
(Bear grunts) See? That's where he was going.
Hey, buddy, you'll be okay.
Buddy.
I like that.
Bear and Buddy.
- Are you going somewhere? - Yeah.
To live with my dad for a while in a Manitoba.
Ty! (Bear grunts) Back.
Back, Bear.
Good boy! Good boy! Bear might make a good police horse.
You really think he's made of that kind of stuff? He's a special horse.
(Hooves thunder) (Hooves thunder) (Bear snorts) Good boy.
(Hard pat) Good boy, Bear.
(Bear snorts softly) (Birds chirp, hooves thud) - Hey, Georgie! - Oh, hey, you're back! Nice horse.
But did you really need a new one? Well, Bear's not mine.
His owner passed away, so Amy took him on.
He likes to stay active, so I ride him as much as I can.
God, hi.
Um and this is his buddy.
His name's well, actually, Buddy.
Cool.
Maybe we can take 'em on a ride sometime like tomorrow.
(Rooster crows) Yeah, sure.
Um I'll have to ask Jack's if he's working with Buddy, but I that sounds good.
Great.
It's a date then.
(Awkward silence) I'll pack us a lunch.
Oh no, you still have to take me out to lunch.
I won that bet fair and square.
(Laughs) All right, we are almost ready.
- Yay! Waffle time! - Thanks, Lisa.
You two are really loving this brunch tradition, aren't you? My pleasure as always.
(Knock at the door) I got it! (Door creaks open) Hello there.
Come on in.
Hi.
I'm Carson Heatley.
I have a meeting with Lou today.
- Is he in? - Uh-huh.
Uh, You must be the inspector from our insurance company.
I'm Lou.
- You're Lou.
- Yeah, it's short for Louise.
Well, let me call you that then.
I have an Uncle Lew, and he looks nothing like you.
Um (Clears throat) Uh, we just recently renovated the barn loft, and we want to have it added to the existing policy.
All right, well, let's scope it out.
Amy, would you mind taking Carson out to the barn? Um, I'm sorry, but I actually have a client arriving any minute.
I can't.
- And we'll see you soon.
Bye! - Bye, Mommy! - Bye, honey.
- Nice to meet you, Carson.
Nice to meet you.
- After you, Louise.
- (Sighs) Okay.
(Gate clanks, horses whinny, hooves thunder) Hey, Casey.
Everything all right? Not really, no.
- What's the matter? - Just another freezing cold shower followed by an even colder breakfast.
No hot water and no stove again.
Well, check the propane tanks? (Annoyed sigh) Of course I checked the tanks, they're full.
Well, maybe there's something wrong with the regulator.
I gotta say, I never saw this coming.
Really? 'Cause it keeps happening.
I meant I never saw myself living in a tin can parked on the rodeo grounds at this point in my life.
Oh, come on, honey.
It's part of your job.
You're on the road all the time.
I know, it's just starting to feel like I need a real home to come back to, you know? Okay, calm down.
We'll take a look at it after practice.
It'll be all right.
Thanks.
(Door bangs shut) Lacey: Not right now.
I'll call him later.
Yeah.
- Amy, right? - Yeah.
- I'll be with you in a second.
- Okay.
Don't believe it.
She's been on work calls all morning.
Is Budget Buster in the trailer? No.
We let him ride up front with us.
Georgie: Hey.
Hey, Olivia.
What're you doing here? I might ask you the same question.
She wants Amy to look at her jumping horse.
(Laughs) No.
This was my stepmother's idea.
I actually think that it's a waste of time.
O-kay, I think I'll get going.
- See you tomorrow.
- See ya.
Tomorrow, huh? (Hooves clop, Georgie sighs) Okay, Olivia, I'm ready to have a look.
So what exactly is going on? He just keeps screwing up.
Do you think you could you be a little more specific? Sure.
He cost about a hundred thousand dollars, has a great coach, the best of everything, and hasn't come close to winning a ribbon in months.
Maybe it's better if you just show me what's happening.
(Budget Buster grunts, Hooves plod) (Hooves thud) (Hooves thud) (High-pitched whinny) - Whoa! - See? That's what he does! He's going toward the fence! Okay, just-just circle him around, circle him.
That's it, that's it.
Settle down.
It happened again? Of course it did.
He was supposed to be champion and this is what we're stuck with? You're okay? Yeah.
Just go back to your phone call.
Hi.
Sorry about that, where were we? S09E08 Reckless Abandon And at the break of day you sank into your dream You dreamer Oh, oh, oh, oh You dreamer You dreamer You know, that daughter of yours is a real cutie.
Those big blue eyes and dimples.
(Chuckles) Yeah, trust me, she knows how to use them to get what she wants.
It's a pretty sweet deal, having family around to give you and your husband a helping hand.
Oh, yeah.
Actually, my husband and I separated not, uh, too long ago.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I I saw the ring.
Hey, it took me a while to take mine off too.
See, me and my ex, we were separated about a year ago.
How 'bout you? Like I said, it was pretty recently.
Hmm.
It plays with your head, doesn't it? Being single again.
(Door clicks shut) I haven't even waded back into the dating pool yet.
Pfft! I can't even imagine that.
Well, I I can imagine it.
I was just beginning to wonder if I'd ever find somebody who I actually wanted to ask out for coffee.
Uh muffins! Uh Excuse me? I just, I left some muffins in the-in the oven.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, so I'm just gonna get back to the house, but you're (Thump) You're okay here? - Yeah.
No problem.
- Okay.
(Running footsteps on stairs) (Muttering to herself) Muffins?! Seriously?! What is wrong with me?! - How's it going up there? - Oh! Fine.
Yup, good.
We're-we were just talking about the loft.
What else would you be talking to the inspector about? Exactly.
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
Okay.
What's up with her? (Sighs) You know Lou.
Stuff like that really stresses her out.
I still can't believe how harsh Olivia's being on this guy.
No wonder he's having trouble jumping.
You know what? I think Olivia is putting just as much pressure on herself.
You know? There's a lot of expectations when it comes to riding a high-performance jumping horse.
So you think Olivia's the problem? Well, I've seen it before, do remember the jouster? You know, maybe Olivia's transmitting her nerves onto this guy, so let's just let him chill out and then we'll see how he does with a calm rider.
(Hooves clop) Ungh! Ungh! (Birds chirp) Why aren't you using a proper wrench on that? I've changed a regulator before, I think I know what I'm doing.
It's a brass fitting, Tim, you're gonna scar it up Let me just finish this so we can get outta here and Casey can stop ranting about her living conditions.
I wouldn't say she was ranting.
I understand her frustration.
You remember what it was like, always being on the road.
She has a way of dropping hints.
I looked it up.
It's called passive-aggressive.
I hate it.
What hints? Hints.
She's dropping them like bombs.
Jack, she's fishing for an invitation.
To live with me, to move in.
- She never said that! - Not in so many words.
Then don't jump to conclusions.
I think I know her better than you do.
Just ask her.
There's no sense in both of you beating around a bush.
(Regulator tubes clatter) (Wrench clunks) (Metallic clunk) (Door creaks open) We had chocolate chips and whip cream! - (Chuckles) Really? - C'mon! Let's go build a fort! All right, I'll be right there.
Don't go bouncing on the bed or off the walls for that matter.
Sorry.
That's a little bit of sugar.
(Clears throat) Yeah.
Hey, um, I noticed that the very cute inspector's still here.
Cute? I hadn't noticed.
Oh no, you didn't notice he was cute? Or that he was flirting with you, Louise? Yeah, no, I got that.
Especially when he brought up going for coffee.
- He asked you out? - Well, I don't I think he was going to and I kind of split before it got awkward, which made things more awkward and Why would you do that? Because, Lisa, I don't wanna go out on a date.
It's not a date, it's coffee.
And he seems like a very nice guy, and he is cute.
- Lisa! - Coming! (Sighs) (Footsteps clunk on stairs) So everything's working again.
Okay, great! I'm gonna hit the road then.
Thanks so much, Jack.
I really appreciate it.
Thanks, Buddy.
What about me? (Laughs) (Laughs) - What is going on? - What do you mean? I mean, you might be good at a lot of things, but hiding your feelings not one of 'em.
Well it's nothing, really.
All your complaining, about the trailer and not having a home Pretty obvious what it's all about.
You're not so good at hiding what you're thinking either.
And what would that be? I know you wanna move into Big River with me, right? (Laughs) What? I never even considered that.
- Really? - Really.
(Phone chimes) Although that is an interesting idea.
You know what? I'm late for a meeting.
Wanna talk about this later? (Blustering) Yeah! Have fun.
Give me a call.
Huh.
(Knock at the door) Uh come in! (Door creaks open and closed) I just finished up out there, so you should be hearing from one of our insurance drones in the next couple of days.
Okay.
Well, thank you.
(Quietly) Yeah.
- Carson? Um - Yeah.
Listen, I own a Dude Ranch.
It's more just like a couple of cabins, really, but, um, I was thinking about doing some renovations and I could use some professional advice.
Yeah, well, my brain is yours to pick.
Great! Maybe we could chat about it sometime over a coffee? (Chuckles) Uh, yeah.
How is tomorrow afternoon? Uh, yeah I can do that.
Do you want to meet at Maggie's in town? Sure.
I'll see you there, Louise.
Okay.
(Door creaks open and closed) (Sighs) I'm just getting some juice for Katie.
I was just All I was doing You don't have to explain it to me.
I think it's great, Lou.
No it's not.
This is crazy.
I I'm gonna cancel.
I'm sorry No, no, come on! Why would you do that? Because, Lisa, this just this just feels so wrong.
It's normal.
Do you know how long it took me to move on from Dan? You just, you know, you take baby steps, like going for a casual coffee at a diner that you own.
How much safer can it get? Yeah.
(Fridge opens, Lou sighs, items clank) So I figure we'll start with a little flat work.
And then you'll jump him? No, I'd like to wait till Ty gets back from his conference to rule out anything physical.
(Truck rumbles) Georgie: Who's that? RCMP? I think it's the City Police.
Well, what would they be doing all the way out here? I don't believe it.
(Door bangs shut) - Hi.
- Hello! - Amy Fleming? - Yeah.
- Sergeant Josh Cooke.
- You're from the mounted division.
Yeah.
Sorry I didn't call first, but I was looking at another horse in the area.
- That's okay.
- What's going on? What's this about? He's come to see Bear.
I applied for him to be a mounted police horse.
From everything I've read on your site, Bear seems to be perfect for your program.
Well, he's a good height.
Nice colour.
Has he been checked out recently? Yeah, my husband's a vet.
Actually, Bear saved his life a while back.
- Really? - Yeah, we were on this really steep trail and Ty fell over a ledge.
I tied a rope around Bear's saddle and he pulled us back to safety.
He never flinched.
He just stayed calm and did exactly what I asked of him.
Hmm.
Impressive.
If I come by tomorrow, can we do some work with Bear in the pen? Sure.
Yeah, I'll set aside some time.
Thanks.
I have a good feeling about you, Bear.
(Light pat) So you were keeping this a secret from me? I didn't want to say anything until I knew they were interested.
Well, obviously, they are.
He was practically drooling over Bear.
What happens if he gets accepted? Are you just gonna let him go? We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, okay? (Sighs heavily) I like your hair like that.
Oh, I was just playing around with it.
Everything okay? Uh, yeah.
Amy said Stephen came by earlier.
It must have been nice to see him again.
Yeah, we're going on a trail ride tomorrow.
Oh, yeah? Is this trail ride like a date? Sorry.
None of my business.
- It's okay.
- No, I mean I was I mean, what is a "date" anyway, right? It's just some stupid label that people put on spending time with someone that makes it this big pressure-filled thing.
I totally get why you're nervous.
I never said that.
- You know what? - Here's what you're gonna do.
You just relax and have fun.
I mean, that's what a date is supposed to be anyways.
Except don't think of it as a "date.
" It's just coffee.
I mean, a ride.
It's just a ride.
(Light kiss) (Hooves thud, cue stick whips) (Amy clucks her tongue) Good boy.
(Clucks her tongue) He travels great.
Yeah, he really moves out nice.
(Clucks her tongue) Okay, let's see what he can really do.
(Frisbees thunk) (Light thump) Good boy, Bear! (Frisbees thump lightly) Wow.
(Balls bounce) Okay, let's try something tougher.
(Gun fires) Both: (Laugh) (Plastic bottle crinkles loudly) (Bear snorts softly) Both: (Laughing) Wow.
I have to say, he's one of the calmest horses I've ever met.
There's no question Bear has what it takes.
Now we don't have a big budget to pull from, but I'd love to take him on.
This isn't about the money.
I just want Bear to be happy.
Actually, I think he was born to do this.
I get that feeling as well.
I'll come back in a couple days to pick him up.
That soon? Uh, the next training session starts in a week.
Okay.
Yeah, I'll have him ready.
Thanks, Amy.
(Truck door opens and closes) (Truck door bangs shut) Hey.
Hey.
- You all right? - Yeah! I'm great.
Listen, I was thinking about what we talked about yesterday, about you moving into my place.
I have a better idea.
And I was (Birds chirp) Wouldn't that be perfect? Yeah.
It's just over on Fraser Meadow Road.
It's got a four-acre lot.
Really.
Good location.
I know, especially for that price.
And look at the interior.
It's just so open, there's so much sunlight in there.
Yeah yeah, it's open.
There's uh there's sunlight in there.
There's an open house today.
Do you think you might wanna see it with me? I'd love to, but I gotta set up for practice.
It's all right.
I'll check it out by myself, let you know what I think.
Yeah, that's probably good.
Do that.
(Chuckles) Jack: So? What'd the police say? (Sighs) They want him.
Well, that's a good thing, isn't it? I think so.
So you just went ahead and crossed that bridge, huh? Georgie, the sergeant said that Bear is perfect for this.
Okay, it's not like I want him to go.
- Then don't do it! - It's what's best for Bear.
He was amazing when Ty fell.
And this is his reward? Being sent away? (Sighs heavily, hooves clop) I remember how sure you were that Buddy was meant to be a ranch horse.
I needed some convincing, but you were right.
Buddy's been great and he's been a whole lot happier since Well, since I put him to work.
Bear deserves the same thing, don't you think? I know horses like to have a purpose, but they also need companionship.
I'm sure Bear will make new friends with the other police horses.
- Going for coffee and doughnuts.
- This isn't funny.
Just trying to cheer you up.
(Sighs) I guess I'm not the most fun person to be around right now.
It-it's okay.
(Dismounting thuds) You seem kind of nervous.
Is everything okay? Nervous? Well, yeah.
Have things changed between us? Changed? Like how? Well, you called this a date.
Does that mean we're supposed to be more than friends now? Or not.
Everything can just stay totally the same.
No, it it's not that.
I have something I need to tell you.
(Sighs) My mom got a job in Manitoba, so I won't have to travel so far between my parents.
I'm leaving Hudson for good this time.
Just act natural.
You're not doing anything wrong.
You're not doing anything at all.
It's just coffee.
I drink coffee, obviously he drinks coffee.
We're just sitting at the same table drinking coffee together.
It's.
Just.
Coffee.
(Compact snaps shut) What am I doing? (Door opens, people chatter, music plays in diner) Hey.
(Door closes heavily) - Hey, Louise.
- Hi.
- How're doing? - Good to see you.
Um, could we please get two coffees - for our business meeting? - Mmhmm.
It's all business, huh? Uh, look, you know, like I said, I have some questions - Right.
Your renovation.
- Yeah.
So is this your regular haunt? Uh, yeah, I guess you could say that since I kind of well, I own it.
- Really? So you run two businesses? - Yeah.
- Quite the entrepreneur.
- Yeah, or just plain crazy.
Nah.
I mean, people say that you carve out our own niche, but the truth is, your niche carves out you.
- Thank you.
- There you go.
And um what would your niche be? Adrenaline.
Heli-skiing, base jumping white water rafting.
So, basically, terrifying yourself.
I actually find it scarier living a life where you're in a safe little bubble, 'cause that just ain't living.
- Hmm.
- Let me take you skydiving this weekend.
- Uh - We'll get you outta your bubble.
No.
I feel no need to jump out of a perfectly operational aircraft.
It's your loss.
(Chuckles) Where's Amy? Why isn't she working with Budget Buster? I don't know.
She's busy.
One of our horses got accepted into the Calgary Police Force.
Congratulations.
But we're paying good money to have Amy to fix my horse.
Chill out, Olivia.
It's not like you're her only client.
The world doesn't stop because you have a problem.
I knew Amy couldn't do it.
You know what? If there's something wrong with your horse, - she'll figure it out.
- If?! You saw what happened yesterday.
Well, maybe it's something else.
Like what? Me?! Okay, you think that this is my fault? Well, I know how badly you always want to win.
Sometimes a horse can feel the rider's anxiety.
Just quit trying to cover up for Amy and admit that she can't fix him.
You know what? I have an idea.
I'll jump him and show you there is nothing wrong with your horse.
(Wheel barrow rattles, Olivia sighs haughtily) (Birds chirp) - Hey.
I got a bone to pick with you.
- Oh good.
I stupidly took your advice and talked to Casey and now it's got her thinking.
Oh, so she does wanna move into Big River? Worse.
She's out looking at an acreage that's up for sale.
It's not exactly a castle, but I don't think she can afford it, so obviously she's gonna wanna go in on it together.
Well, would that be the worst thing in the world? Things are going pretty well with you two, right? Yeah.
Right.
Yeah, I wanna keep it that way.
- I see, you're scared.
- I'm not scared.
Hey, I'm not judging.
I get it.
You haven't lived with a woman since Marion.
Not true, exactly.
There was a barrel racer named Linda - I shacked up with for a couple of weeks.
- I don't need to hear this.
And a waitress I met at a greasy spoon named Sarah.
- Tim, I'm not interested.
- That lasted two months.
And Miranda, we made it an entire year in that seedy apartment.
Until we fought so bad they had to kick us out.
You were a mess back then.
You can't compare any of that to what you have with Casey.
That's right.
Jack, this time I got something to lose.
If we do this, we move in together what happens when she sees me for who I really am? - And who would that be? - I don't know.
I-I know that I don't have a very good track record for this kind of thing.
The past is the past.
You're a different person then the guy that Marion or Miranda had to live with.
I could do this.
You know, face it, I'm getting older.
I don't wanna be alone.
I love her.
Maybe it's time.
(Birds chirp, horses snort softly) What the hell I'm gonna do it.
(Laughs) (Stirrup clunks) Be careful.
We'll be fine.
(Truck rumbles) (Hooves thunder) (Door bangs closed) (Budget Buster grunts) - Whoa! (High-pitched whinny) - Rein him in! Whoa, boy! (Jump thumps heavily on ground) Georgie! (Gasps) Oh my God! Amy, do something! He's bleeding! What is going on here? Olma: She said that she could jump him.
She said I was the problem.
- This is all Georgie's fault! - I am so sorry! I've gotta get him to the clinic.
(Clucks her tongue) Come on, Bud.
(Hooves clop, Georgie breathes hard) See, I'd heard how dangerous the Banzai Pipeline is, but you have no idea until you're actually surfing it.
I mean, th-this swell came out of nowhere and doubled up over the inside section - Really.
- It chewed me up and spit me out.
Left me for dead.
Uh, that sounds like a good time.
It was complete zen.
Being at nature's mercy, giving up all control What's wrong with control? I mean, I I feel like I haven't had enough of that in my life lately.
Well, sometimes the only way to get it back is to let it go altogether.
I have no idea what that means and I kinda doubt you do either.
You have a cool vibe, Louise.
You challenge me.
I like that about you.
Can I see you again tomorrow, for dinner, right here? Uh I'm about as ready to go on a real date as I am to surf a tidal wave right now.
So thank you for this, you're a real interesting guy.
But I should I should get going.
Back to your safe little bubble, huh? (Music plays quietly, people chatter) (Door opens and closes) - Is he okay? - Yeah.
Scott gave him a tetanus shot and says it should heal up on its own.
Where is Budget Buster? He's still at the clinic.
Scott's running some test to see if there's something that's affecting his jumping.
Georgie, what were you thinking? Well, you said the problem could be Olivia, so I wanted to show her there was nothing wrong with her horse.
That was just my first thought, okay? I was still working through other possibilities.
I told you that I wanted to have him checked out before I jumped him.
Georgie, I know you're sorry.
But I want to understand what possessed you to do something so thoughtless.
Like what you're doing with Bear? What're you talking about? You have no idea how this is going to affect him and Buddy.
(Door closes) It's not fair, Amy.
(Receding footsteps) (Sniffling) (Approaching footsteps) (Sighs heavily, sniffles) Amy told me about Bear.
It sounds like a pretty cool new life.
But what about him leaving Buddy? Leaving me? It's gonna be tough at first.
But they're both gonna have good homes where they're needed.
And who know? Maybe they'll bring Bear back to visit us sometime.
Yeah, right.
Like how Stephen's gonna come visit me every chance he gets.
It's not gonna happen.
What're you talking about? (Sighs) He's moving away to Manitoba.
For good.
(Sighs heavily) Here I was all nervous about what it means to have a boyfriend.
Stephen is your boyfriend? Well, obviously not now.
We can't even be friends anymore.
It's not like I have many of those.
Hey Look, I'm sorry, Georgie.
And I know it feels like it's the end of the world right now, but Can you please just Can you not try to put some positive spin on this? Because I'm not in the mood right now, okay? (Light kiss) (Birds chirp) - Hey! Do you want some scrambled eggs? - I'm not hungry.
- Everything okay with her? - No, she's upset about Bear and her friend Stephen.
Is that the boy that came by and spent time with her when she had chicken pox? Yeah.
They went on their first date yesterday.
She went on a date? Don't worry, Grandpa, it was also her last.
He's moving away.
Oh Oh, that's heartbreaking.
So I hope you had a little more luck than that on your date yesterday.
You went on a date? (Phone rings) (Phone beeps) Hello.
Yes, this is she.
Oh, yeah, thank you for getting back to me.
Uh what?! No, no.
There must be some mistake.
And yes.
No, please do send me that report.
Thank you.
That vindictive, lying little (Slams phone down) Who? What? That was the insurance company.
They got Carson's report and the loft failed his inspection.
This is all because I turned down a second date with Carson.
- Who is Carson? - He's the insurance inspector, - and it wasn't a date - You said it was a date.
It was coffee.
And when I turned down a real date he went and filed a bogus report.
- Is that even possible? - He's saying the loft isn't up to code Not up to code?! We did everything by the book! Grandpa, of course you did.
We're not gonna let him get away with this.
Yeah, I think you should reconsider that date.
- What? - And I'll be going with you too.
I'll be having a little "chat" with him about his so-called issues.
Yeah, I-I don't think that's the best idea.
No, Lisa's right.
I'm doing this on my own.
- Why don't you just call him? - No.
I'm gonna do this face-to-face.
Because we're gonna see how zen he is when I get through with him.
(Crow caws) (Bike rattles) (Kickstand clunks, Helmet clicks) Are you still mad at me? (Brush swishes) Of course not.
Why would I be mad at you? People leave all the time.
You haven't spoken to me since our ride.
Okay, well, maybe I was little ticked off.
Look, I get it, you need to go, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
I don't really like it either.
I mean, Manitoba doesn't have mountains, or those shakes at Maggie's.
(Brush swishes) And it doesn't have you.
I felt kinda lonely this summer.
Yeah.
Me too.
But we can still keep in touch over email and Facetime and stuff, right? (Sighs) Well, you haven't left yet.
Here, take a brush.
(Brushes swish) (Door opens and shuts forcefully) I am so stoked you decided to change your mind.
Yeah, well, don't get too "stoked" there, dude.
- What's up, Louise? - It's Lou, okay? O-kay.
Why am I getting a hostile vibe right Look, I know you failed the loft, and it's all because I turned you down.
What? No, I was just doing my job That is B.
S.
and you know it! Maybe we should talk about this outside No, no, no.
This is how you handle rejection? It's pathetic, okay? Because my dad and my grandpa take great pride in their work, and everything in that loft was done to code.
- Uh no, it actually wasn't.
- Right.
See, they tied the new wiring in the existing electrical on the east wall.
Don't try to snow me with technical jargon, okay? It's really not that technical.
You just need to install a new breaker box.
Oh, and a handrail for the stairs.
So, what? You're just trying to tie us up in red tape now? No.
Not at all.
Do the upgrades and you pass.
It's no big deal.
In fact, it happens all the time.
- Oh.
- Yeah.
Wow.
So you really thought that I would risk my job because you wouldn't go out with me? - Uh I - Wow Okay.
I guess the ego has landed.
I think I'm uh I'm gonna go.
Okay.
You have a nice life Lou.
(Under her breath) Okay (Door opens) Hi.
(Door closes) (Knock at the door) Hey.
I just heard from Scott.
It turns out Budget Buster has something called "kissing spines.
" It's probably not as cute as it sounds.
No.
It's when a horse's vertebrae start pinching together.
And that's what's happening when he's jumping.
It's incredibly painful.
Well, can we fix it? Scott's gonna perform surgery.
Well, that doesn't sound good.
Actually, almost all the jumpers recover 100%.
So I didn't make it worse? No.
I think he's gonna be fine.
I'm so sorry I jumped him.
I wasn't thinking straight.
I'm still not.
I just hate seeing Bear and Buddy be torn apart.
Bear led us to Buddy.
He saved his life.
Yeah, and that's why he's gonna make a great police horse.
It's in his DNA.
Bear was meant for greater things and deep down you know that's true.
I'm sorry about Stephen.
I heard you guys talking.
I can't imagine going to school without him.
Who am I going to sit with on the bus? Or at lunch? Or make fun of our teachers with? I was a lot like you.
I never hung out in big crowds, I only ever had one best friend.
But maybe this will I don't know force you to let new people in? How does that saying go? When one door closes You're totally left all alone on the other side.
(Laughs) Funny, that's not quite how I remember it.
(Laughs) (Truck and trailer rumble) You in here? Case? (Approaching footsteps) (Screen door clanks) Well, well, well (Laughs) What have we got here? Let's do it.
Let's move in together.
(Laughs) Tim, I don't know what to say.
I just put an offer in on that ranch.
What? I haven't even seen it? Yeah, but there were other people interested, you know? I had to move fast.
Right.
And I trust your judgment.
So you know I'm gonna have to sell Big River to put in my share.
Um I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say.
I wanna buy this place on my own It'll be the first real home I've had since Hank passed away.
Something that's all mine and I'm ready for that right now.
Yeah.
I-I thought And I don't want things to change between us.
I mean, I love the way things are now.
Yeah, me too.
- So you're okay with this? - Yeah, I'm fine.
Actually, I'm kind of relieved 'cause I thought I might have to give up my bachelor lifestyle.
(Hard thump) - I love you.
- I love you too.
(Kiss) (Sighs contentedly) (Hooves thud) It's sucks to see these guys hanging out like it's just another day.
They have no idea what's gonna happen.
(Vehicle rumbles) It's gonna be okay.
- Did you know they were coming? - No.
(Vehicle rumbles to a halt, dog barks) (Engine shuts off, doors bang shut) Hey, guys.
Is everything all right? Lacey: Yeah, we just wanted to swing by and say thanks.
For getting Budget Buster properly diagnosed.
I just hope that nasty gash doesn't leave a scar.
Scott thinks it'll heal just fine.
I guess we'll just have to see.
(Phone rings) Oh, uh sorry.
(Receding footsteps) Hello.
Yes, this is she.
(Sighs) Are you still mad at me? I'm just glad that my horse is gonna be okay.
I guess your mom's pretty mad at me.
No.
She's just upset 'cause this big job fell through.
I swear she was on her phone for a week trying to seal the deal.
Sorry to hear about that.
Are you kidding? We were gonna have to move to Toronto.
- I'm so glad we're not going.
- Me too.
What? Really? Well, for your sake.
I know it's not easy moving away.
Well, I should go.
(Sighs) Hey.
A bunch of girls from my riding club are gonna go hang out at Maggie's later.
It's like no big deal, but you could come too.
Uh, yeah, maybe.
- See? Other doors.
- Shut up.
(Laughing) (Footsteps on stairs) I can't believe you didn't install a separate breaker box.
- You could've said something - I'm not the one that claims to be some kind of expert on wiring.
"It's all to code.
" How many times did I have to listen to that? If you're gonna keep on me about this you can install the damn thing yourself.
Uh what was that about? We have to make a couple of minor additions to the loft to get it up to code.
- We didn't pass inspection? - Nope.
Oh, Lou, even after you went to coffee with the guy? It turns out Dad and Grandpa actually forgot a couple of things.
- Are you serious? - It's going to be fine.
I just wish I'd known that before I went in there guns a blazing.
What do you mean? I kinda called out Carson on filing a bogus report after I turned down a date with him.
- Oh no - Oh yeah.
At Maggie's, and I wasn't quiet about it.
I came off looking like a ranting, - self-absorbed crazy lady.
- Mmhmm.
(Laughs) It wasn't funny, it was mortifying.
But one good thing came out of all of this.
I am now certain, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am not ready to date.
(Chuckling) Hey.
(Bear grunts) You are gonna do great, Bear.
I know you are.
(Bear grunts) Yeah.
(Chuckles) Hi, baby.
(Bear grunts) (Whispering) Bye, Bear.
Bye I'm gonna miss you.
(Kiss) We'll give him a good home, I promise.
Come on.
(Clucks her tongue) (Trailer door latch clunks) (Hooves clop) (Hooves clunk in trailer) (Door clicks shut, Latch clunks) Thanks.
(Engine starts, truck and trailer rumble) Hold on Even though you have every reason to go You still have every reason to hope (Buddy whinnies) Hold on Full on We could be living a second (Buddy grunts and whinnies) Whoa, Buddy.
Hey! Whoa (Grunting) No, I got this! (Gate clanks) (Agitated grunts) You are not alone You are not alone You are not alone (Hooves clop) Stay Love will make me stay Wait! Please stop! Love will make me stay (Brakes squeal) Love will make me stay Everything okay? - They need to say goodbye.
- Sure.
Hold on Heaven and earth aren't so far apart Sometimes the end is just the start Hold on Okay, Buddy.
Bear's gotta go now.
(Buddy grunts) Thank you.
This where we find out who we are Lift your eyes and count the stars Hold on (Door bangs shut) You are not alone (Truck rumbles) You are not alone Bear's gonna be okay.
So are you.
We're all gonna be okay.
Stay Love will make me stay Stay Love will make me stay Love will me stay (Hooves thud)
