Last night on The Voice the battles began The battle performances are epic.
The bar was lifted to a new, unmeasurable height.
That's how you battle! Blowing our coaches away.
That was so good! I feel like we're at the grammys.
That was my favorite battle that I've ever seen.
Ellie.
Winners were picked.
I'm really excited that Adam does see something in me that I don't even see myself yet.
James! We're finding that everyone has a really good chance of winning.
You're awesome! And watching them blossom, like, right before your eyes is really rewarding.
I think they're all ready to make records.
It's crazy.
There is a steal! And with two steals each, our coaches gave a deserving few new life on a new team.
Yes! You deserve to be on this show.
Adam, Gwen, and pharrell each used one steal, strengthening their teams.
But Blake has been holding out.
I still have both of my steals.
I'm just looking for somebody that fits in with my team that doesn't interfere with anybody else.

And you brought me to a place that is the roots of where everything started for me.

There's a theatrical quality to it that really plays to, like, a rock 'n' roll singer.
"Baba o'Riley" is about as soaring into the stratosphere as it gets.
Out here in the fields I fight for my meals I get my back into my living Keith's got a really unique sound.
With the personality, they're both real powerful.
I don't need to fight Manny you can see the energy and the passion of his body and soul.
Fight for my meals there's a big note that goes way up.
Yeah.
You can kind of screech it like kkkt get raspy there.
Doesn't have to be so perfect.
I've never really taken vocal lessons, so I'm a sponge.
It was a little challenging.
The first line I have is the highest part of the song.
I got a little bit of work to do.
Keith, when you hold a note My living it sounds good when you hang.

The hardest part about singing "baba o'Riley" is the fact that everybody's gonna be comparing you to Roger daltrey.
You have to sing it with as much passion as he did.

I don't need to fight to prove I'm right With their battle fast approaching, Keith and Manny meet with Adam and John fogerty for a final rehearsal with the band.
Out here in the fields I fight for my meals Manny's such an outgoing personality.
I just have to make sure I keep the energy and the intensity up.

Everything was going crazy, right? I'm sure Roger even kind of goes off, you know? Went off, yeah.
Rock 'n' roll really is about breaking the rules, inventing new rules, and so Keith and Manny need to rock 'n' roll on 11.

And this has been my entire life, and I feel like it's all coming to a point, so bring it on.

Having said all that, that was one of the best battles we've probably ever had on the show.
Pharrell? You know, Keith, man, those reaching notes, every time I thought, "okay, no, he's not gonna do it.
" And you do.

Who is she? That's my daughter right there.
Yeah! I have to say that you went above and beyond my expectation.
You know, you could make an album right now where we would just hear that Irish thing, you know, from u2 to, like, the script.
Manny, your voice has just been stratospheric.
Manny could make an album right now that would feel timeless.

And, Keith, there was moments where my breath was taken away.

It really felt like it was steps later in the competition because it was really polished.
Manny, you have this infectious way of taking full ownership, and that's really tough for someone like Keith and intimidating to keep up with.
It was like a tennis match.
I couldn't decide who to bounce back and forth between.
The presence was that felt on both ends.
Adam, who's the winner of this battle? Uh I love you guys.
Uh The winner of this battle Is Keith.
Keith moves on to the knockout rounds! Congratulations! Whoo! Cheer daddy! Keith and Manny were awesome.
But as far as the singing prowess, Keith has a very beautiful high register, and it's very effortless.
The sky's the limit with him.
He can go very far in this competition.
Yay! Mwah! Adam's had the kind of career that I have always wanted to have, and maybe with his expertise, I've got the chance to do that.

Newlywed Chris crump came to The Voice hoping to secure his future.

I can't believe it! Krista Hughes was a small-town girl with big music dreams.
Before The Voice, I'd never even been on an airplane.
I never anticipated seeing Los Angeles, California.
Lightning was Her classic-country sound also impressed all four coaches.
That flies from Montgomery thank you for being good! I think that it was flawless.
Some of your influences may not be the stuff that we're exactly hearing on the radio.

I'm a huge Brad paisley fan.
Last week, I was jamming out to his album, and today, I'm standing in front of him.
This is crazy.
I gave Chris and krista "when I get where I'm going" by Brad paisley and Dolly parton.
This is one of my favorite songs because it's just got such a powerful message.
Krista's a country singer, and Chris is a pop singer, but they're both storytellers.
At the time I recorded it, I had lost my favorite aunt to cancer.
It's lyrically and musically meant to stir something in your soul.
Now I want to hear Donny and Marie here.
Little bit country, little bit pop.
When I get where I'm going there'll be only happy tears the song is in her wheelhouse, being a country musician, and we're playing it for this amazing artist, and it's his song, so the pressure was definitely there.
Yeah, when I get where I'm going wow.
There'll be only happy tears Chris, naturally, with his tone, sounds emotional.
He's able to make you think, "man, this guy's hurting.
" That's such a gift and something you can't teach anybody.
I just lost my granddaddy.
It's hard for me to sing it because I keep going there in my head.
When you're getting too emotional, think of a shark attack.
Okay.
That'll take you right out of it.
But see? You're already not about to cry.
If they combine the presence of mind of what they're singing about with the ability to not get too emotional, neither one will go home.

That's like a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
When I get where I'm goiiiiiiiiiing krista, we need more female singers in country music, and I don't want you to lose any of that adventurous thing you do melodically.

As their battle approaches, krista and Chris meet with Blake and Brad paisley for a rehearsal with the band.

That was a great performance, man.
Krista, there was a couple flat notes in that bridge, but coming out of it, I felt like it was just as strong as when you started.
In the blinds, I always thought that you had something special.
But I think I would go with Chris.
Gwen? Chris, I can't believe what your voice sounded like.
Just so soothing and rich and controlled.
And right when you came in, I got, like, goose bumps all the way up my body, like, twice.
Together, your voices blended so well.
If I had to choose, I would probably say Chris.

Adam? You both came in, and I was like, "this is gonna be the best battle we've ever had.
" But, krista, you lost control of the range a little bit.
And then right after that, Chris, you made this face like, "oh, no.
" But otherwise, I think you guys are both exceptional, two of our best.

Chris, you did a great job of taking a country song and turning it into what you do.
And you're a great storyteller, man.
And, krista, that bridge It's still haunting us, but you did an incredible job of taking a male song and finding places to make your voice work.
It was really good.
