Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) s10e01 Episode Script

The Phantom Menace

Kelly? What happened? Are you okay? - He had a knife.
MATT:.
Are you hurt? KELLY:.
He threatened me.
- Was there anyone else here, huh? Were you alone? [SlRENS WAlLlNG.]
God.
All right, listen.
The cops will wanna know what happened, okay? KELLY:.
Okay.
- He locked the door.
MATT:.
That's good.
You tell them that.
But if I tell you not to answer them, don't.
Do you understand me? Do you understand me? - Yeah.
Yeah.
MATT:.
Okay.
Turn around, on the ground.
MATT:.
No, no, wait, wait, wait.
- Now!.
Face down.
Why are they doing this? My name is Matt Durning, I'm this woman's attorney.
OFFlCER: Arms at your back.
MATT: She's the victim.
- No, he was trying to kill me.
- He said that? Yes.
No, not now, before when he raped me.
- Two Adam 91, requesting extra units.
- That's the guy who raped you? - Yes.
- Are you sure? Yes.
OFFlCER: Two suspects, including the shooter.
Out.
Three entry wounds, deceased.
- Did you know him? - You shouldn't be arresting her.
Did you? His name is Joe Patch, he was my client.
- You defended him? - Worse, I kept him out of :jail.
WAYNE: What can I say? Coming back to L.
A.
seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
- You gave up your career.
- To be with you.
Trips around the world, hanging out on the beach - Oh, my God.
What have I done? - I'm serious.
I know.
Promise you'll work on that? [CHUCKLES.]
Sorry.
I don't know.
It's just when you risk a lot, you usually expect a lot in return.
And that's completely understandable, but I just got out of an intense relationship - and to jump back into another one-- - I don't expect you to.
--I don't know if it's the thing l - You don't? - No.
What do you expect? For us to have fun.
- Fun? - Yes, fun.
Oh, well, okay.
Fun's good.
[BOTH CHUCKLE.]
[PHONE RlNGS.]
- Sorry.
Sorry.
- Ugh.
[CHUCKLES.]
Hello.
What? Wait, Matt, slow down.
[POP MUSlC PLAYlNG ON SPEAKERS.]
Is it something I did? No, I'm a little busy right now.
Because if it's something I did, I can do it different.
I'll do whatever you want.
Cherise, right? Yeah.
[PHONE RlNGS.]
Yeah.
Noah, I need to talk.
I wouldn't call if it wasn't important.
I've got nothing to say to you.
Will you listen to me for a second? - I don't think so.
- No-- [LlNE DlSCONNECTS.]
It's Cherise, - with a C.
Ha, ha.
- Heh.
Right, right.
You got plans tonight? Not if you don't want me to.
I'm telling you there is nothing going on between me and David.
- Yeah, is he clear on that? - Yeah, he is, and we're friends.
[PHONE RlNGlNG.]
DYLAN: Mm-hm.
- Hello.
- Dylan, it's Donna.
- Kelly's been involved in a shooting.
- Is she all right? I think so.
Will you just meet me at the Beverly Hills police station? Right, uh, ten minutes.
Kelly's been involved in some kind of shooting.
Is she okay? [SlGHS.]
Why don't you come with me? Yeah.
HAYES: And after he locked the door? He pulled a knife.
Which is when you grabbed the gun from your purse? He kept walking towards me, he wouldn't stop.
Did you tell him to stop? She was pointing a gun at his chest.
I'd say that's telling him.
Ms.
Taylor, we know you did it.
We're here to find out why.
- He raped me.
- And that's a terrible thing.
But Joe Patch was shot at point-blank range.
- And we need to know why.
- It was self-defence.
[SlGHS.]
Help us understand, Ms.
Taylor.
That's all we want.
Now, did you tell him to stop? That's definitely the guy who raped her? That's what Matt said.
But she's okay.
How's she doing? - We don't know.
- I'll go find out.
What are you doing here? You don't belong here.
- You don't tell me-- - Don't touch me.
Hey, hey, hey.
Come on, this isn't the time for this.
Chill, man.
- What was that all about? - I have no idea.
HAYES: Where did you get the gun? I've advised my client not to answer that question.
We checked the registration.
It was stolen.
- I didn't steal anything.
HAYES: You should know, it's a felony to purchase, acquire or use an unlicensed firearm.
She's not talking about it.
Next.
What could possibly be taking so long? - Well, a man was killed.
- Killed, not murdered.
Well, it's obvious what happened.
Instead of questioning her, they should be giving her a medal.
JANET: For what? - Making our streets safer for one.
Yeah, but Steve, a man is dead.
Considering what he did to her, I think he got what he deserved.
Excuse me.
Excuse me, I'm doing a story on the shooting in Beverly Hills, and I understand you know the woman involved.
- Okay, off the record then.
I just need a little informa-- What? We have nothing to say to you, all right? I'm gonna get a coffee.
I can't believe that reporter.
That reporter is us, Steve.
That's what we do for a living.
Look, either way, I'm doing the story.
Your being in it, you can only help your friend.
How did he know where you worked? KELLY: He didn't.
It was a coincidence? [BOTH SlGH.]
I represented him.
I didn't choose him as a client, he was assigned to me by the court.
Before he attacked Kelly, he was in my office above the store.
He wanted something for his girlfriend, I told him to go to the store.
And that's why he was there.
Because of me.
- Hey.
What's going on? - She's doing okay.
- Where is she? - She's doing okay.
An assistant district attorney is coming down tonight to re-interview her.
They'll decide in the morning whether or not to file charges.
What kind of charges? MATT: I'm sure nothing's gonna happen, but right now, Kelly's the subject of a homicide investigation.
All right, look, I gotta get back to her.
But again, she's doing fine.
She knows you're here and it means a lot to her, but, um, really there's nothing for you guys to do, so if you just wanna go home, I can call you with any news.
- Thanks, Matt.
MATT: All right.
Thanks.
Um-- Any idea how Kelly got a gun? Yeah, I gave it to her.
- It was unlicensed.
- These guys got a problem with that, - just send them my way.
- With your record, you'd go to jail.
Don't they realise that she is the victim here? What they realise is that she broke the law.
I gotta get back to her, all right? Yeah.
STEVE: Of course what happened is horrible.
Then how can you find anything good in it? I didn't say there was anything good in it.
It's just that convicted rapists don't get much jail time.
So killing them is okay? Ugh, never mind.
None of this would have happened if I hadn't left Kelly alone in the store.
You think things would have been different if you were there? - I left early and if l-- - That's ridiculous.
JANET: Did you tell Noah? Uh, no, I couldn't reach him.
Well, now is your chance.
Come here.
Let's get out of here.
Donna.
Wait.
Noah.
Would you excuse us for a second? Sure.
Just a second, okay? Anyway, I thought you should know that Kelly shot someone tonight.
- What are you talking about? - In the store, - she killed the man who raped her.
- Is she okay? I tried to tell you earlier, but apparently you were a little too busy.
Just relax on that.
That's none of your business anymore.
- Is she okay? - No.
Noah.
I wanna talk to my friends about this, okay? - Any word from Kelly? - No.
Well, I think I'm gonna go down to the police station and see what's up.
[SlGHS.]
You know, David, about what happened in there with Gina, I'm sorry.
It just happened.
You don't just happen to screw your oldest friend.
You don't just happen to be selfish, you work at it.
I said I was sorry.
So what? That's supposed to make what you did okay? What do you want from me? I want you to admit what you did was wrong.
I want you to feel badly.
- If it hurt you, then I do.
- You don't even know how.
And know what? Spare me the whole "woe is me" routine.
Because you know what? I've seen it way too many times to be moved.
All right.
You should leave her alone.
- I can't do it.
- I want you to move out.
I'll be in a hotel tonight.
KELLY: You make it sound like I should thank them.
All I said was I'm relieved they're not filing charges.
Why it took them all night to decide that what I did was justifiable is beyond me.
Kelly, what you've been through is awful.
Believe me, I know.
These people, I mean, they are just doing their jobs.
That's all.
KELLY: That sounds like a cop-out.
- Hey, Donna.
DONNA: Hmm.
Are you okay? Let's go.
KELLY: I was handcuffed last night.
I could have died and someone in your department put handcuffs on me.
Well, I am sorry for what you've been through.
And I apologise for anything the department did to make it worse.
Has a decision been made whether a charge will be filed? No, not yet.
So I could still go to jail for defending myself? I thought you were supposed to protect innocent people.
I thought you were supposed to defend them.
Uh, detective, what should I do about the store? I mean, it's boarded up.
It's a mess inside.
Well, that's up to you.
Our investigation is over.
Okay, but you guys are gonna clean it up, right? I could give you names of some companies, but, uh, it would be faster if you did it yourself.
- Someone died in there.
HAYES: There's nothing we can do.
I'm sorry.
Thanks.
STEVE: Look, I don't wanna go over this layout, but we have a paper to put out.
"Stars who binge.
" "Hermaphrodites in Hollywood"? You call this a paper? It's entertainment.
It helps people take their mind off their problems.
After what's happened to Kelly, I'm convinced this is a good thing.
[PHONE RlNGS.]
- Beverly Beat.
MAN [OVER PHONE.]
: Janet Sosna.
JANET: Speaking.
- Could you hold on one second? MAN: Sure.
JANET: Thanks.
- Steve, could I have a little privacy? - Sure, honey.
Who's on the phone? Uh, no one.
Really.
I thought that we agreed to get a partition? - What? - We're always on top of each other, - Steve, and I really can't stand that.
- Who's on the phone? This has nothing to do with who's on the phone.
This is about you and me and being together all the time.
- What are you talking about? - A partition! A cubicle.
Space.
- Janet, nobody wants a cubicle.
- I do.
I want a cubicle.
I need a cubicle.
A cubicle would make me very happy.
Yeah, ha, ha.
I'm gonna go to the Peach Pit.
When you regain your sanity, why don't you come and meet me, okay? [STEVE CHUCKLES.]
[DOOR CLOSES.]
I'm so sorry about that.
MAN [OVER PHONE.]
: No problem.
I love your resume.
- You read my application? - Are you free tomorrow? You want me to come to The Chronicle tomorrow? We have an opening in our Living Art section.
- Living Art section? - Yeah.
Is that a problem? - No, it's-- It's just - Well, how about lunch? - During lunch.
- My office at noon? - Okay, I'll be there.
- See you then.
Yes.
DAVlD: Thanks a lot, you too.
Donna, the company said they'll be out this afternoon to measure for new windows.
Yeah, well, I got this part.
Tell me we're not doing this.
Donna, why don't you let me and David finish up? Why don't you find Kelly? See how she's doing? She's with Dylan.
He said he would keep her busy until we're done.
Well, maybe she's helping him find a new place to live? - What are you talking about? - He's moving out.
- Why? - Because I told him to.
- Hey, Noah.
NOAH: What's up? You wanted to see me? Thanks for coming.
I'm having lunch with Cherise today.
It was on the way.
Listen, I know I have no right to ask you this, [SlGHS.]
but I could really use someone to talk to about what happened to Kelly.
I'm freaking out.
I'm concerned about Kelly too, okay? But I don't wanna talk to you right now.
I'm sorry about your store.
Tell me that I'm not hearing this.
- I'm not saying I did the wrong thing.
- You did the right thing.
Did I give him a chance to stop? Did I warn him? - Would it have made a difference? - I killed someone, Steve, yeah.
You said the cops made you feel like a criminal.
Kelly, you're not.
- Hi, sweetheart.
JANET: Hi.
NAT: Have a seat.
How are you doing? I'm doing.
Hey, come on.
Give her some space, Janet.
- Here.
- Well, excuse me for being moved.
You're the one from TV, right? The one that blew that guy away? Just leave her alone.
I think a chick defending herself like that is so cool.
Don't pay any attention to that, Kel.
I just don't get it.
What's her appeal? Is it the attitude? This isn't about Gina.
She's the reason you kicked Dylan out.
Dylan is the reason I kicked Dylan out.
It's the hair, isn't it? It's her hair.
Donna, she's a friend.
See, that's where it gets confusing for me, because Dylan's a friend.
- Really? - Mm-hm.
- Dylan's a friend? - Yeah.
Last night when you saw Noah kiss Cherise, it didn't feel very good, did it? Now imagine walking in on the two of them in bed together.
Ugh, great, thank you.
Now it'll be impossible not to picture that.
What is she like, Cherise, is she nice? Cherise has had a crush on Noah since she started working at the club.
It's kind of funny he didn't respond until now.
So, what, you think it's nothing? No.
I'm just saying he hardly knows her.
So how's Wayne? Kel.
Oh, thanks, but I'm not really hungry.
Well, you have to eat something.
[PHONE RlNGS.]
- Hello.
- David, its Janet.
[KNOCKlNG ON DOOR.]
Hey.
JANET: Everything okay over there? - Yeah, everything's great.
- Hey, I'm on with Janet.
STEVE: Hey.
JANET: Is Steve there? - Steve's right here-- [STEVE CHUCKLES.]
JANET: Tell Kelly I called? - Yeah, I'll tell Kelly you called.
All right.
JANET: Thanks.
You're a real pal.
[SlGHS.]
- Hi, Janet.
JANET: Hi.
I'm glad you're there, I've tried everywhere for you.
- If this is about the cubicle or partition-- - I love you.
What did you say? I know that I've been acting like a real pain lately.
But I think that you're terrific.
Look, I've never dated Dr.
Jekyll and Mrs.
Hyde before, so it's a little confusing.
Yeah, I don't wanna take you away from Kelly, I just I want you to know that I think you're great.
[LlNE DlSCONNECTS.]
[LAUGHS.]
[SlGHS.]
DAVlD: So, what's up? - She loves me.
Wow.
Sometimes I don't get you at all.
STEVE: Yeah.
Hey, you guys mind? Richard Grieco is on E! True Hollywood Story.
Oh, yeah, Booker rocked my world.
- Ha, ha, really? - I'm kidding.
The killing took place at this chic Beverly Hills boutique.
Turn this off.
We don't need to see this.
REPORTER: And pulled a knife-- - No, wait.
--who is co-owner of Now Wear This.
She apparently responded by shooting him with a handgun she had within the store.
If that's true, then I don't blame her.
Blame me? REPORTER: Gina Kincaid is the suspect's roommate.
Wow, I live with a person who killed someone.
That does kind of freak me out.
That's enough.
Turn it off.
[DOOR OPENS.]
Ahem.
Oh, hey.
Hey.
- What? - We just saw you on TV.
[GASPS.]
Right.
I can explain that.
Gina, we all agreed that we weren't gonna talk to anybody.
You know, that reporter, she came over, she cornered me.
You know the coffee machine in the police station? I'm going to bed.
Ugh, it's not like I said she murdered him or anything.
[SCOFFS.]
DONNA: You know what? I want you out of here.
[CHUCKLES.]
- You're jealous because I was on TV.
- No, Gina, I want you out of here.
I want you to pack your bags and move out.
- Donna, are you serious? I didn't-- - The sooner, the better.
Take your skates with you, okay? [DYLAN GRUNTS.]
You didn't eat enough.
Yeah, well, Belgian waffles, you know, they were very popular when I was in high school.
They were right up there with long sideburns and throwing up off the top of the building.
I am impressed though, you remembered the napkin trick.
It's been a long time since you were in high school.
In three years here, you managed to leave quite an impression.
This time around, I plan on being a lot lower maintenance.
That won't be difficult.
For one thing, you don't have to sneak out at night.
But, you know, I paid to have those cameras fixed.
When I think of the way your father depended on me That was money well spent.
How is he? Uh, he's-- He's good.
- Say hello to him for me.
- I will.
[KNOCKlNG ON DOOR.]
Wow! Hi, sweetie.
- Hi.
Um-- - Hi.
- Hector, this is-- - Hi, I'm Gina.
DYLAN: Hector manages the hotel.
- I love this place.
- Mm-hm.
Just like I remembered it.
GlNA: Mm-hm.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
Uh, um-- I'm sorry that things didn't go well with David.
Yeah, so am l.
You know what though, if I had a place like this to fall back on, I would have gotten myself kicked out a long time ago.
Yeah, well, I'll tell you, um, living in a hotel, it gets old.
- Oh, yeah.
Mm-hm.
- Really fast.
It does.
- Mm-hm? - Mm-hm.
DYLAN: Um-- [BOTH GRUNT.]
What are you doing? I am trying to forget about everything right now.
DYLAN: Mm-hm.
You wanna help me? I do, but I gotta meet Donna - at the store.
- You do? When? - Now.
- Right now? - Yeah.
- Can't it wait? I think I deserve an explanation.
Why don't you have a seat? Hey, the DA does not wanna file a gun charge against Kelly Taylor.
He knows it's political suicide, but now he's getting pressure from your department? - She broke the law.
- That's no answer and you know it.
- Well, no, I don't.
- Look.
Your job is to protect the innocent, even if it means bending the rules a little bit.
Gun control helps cops.
Takes guns away from criminals, lowers crime, helps keep the city safe and it saves lives.
- Well, but she's not a criminal.
- I'm not saying she is.
Look, should she have had an unregistered gun? No.
Should it have been illegally purchased for her? Of course not.
But she's the victim here.
If she didn't have that gun, she would have been killed.
Which is why what she did was declared a justifiable homicide.
Justifiable.
It means justice was done.
Can't you just leave it at that? DYLAN: Hey, Donna, sorry I'm late.
- Hey, no problem.
Everything okay? Yeah, I just, uh, had to go over a few things with Gina.
What, like what a bitch I am? Heh.
Actually, no.
That didn't come up.
Oh, I am not sorry I kicked her out.
What did you say? Look, whatever she said about me, I wanna know, okay? Well, trust me, she showed amazing restraint.
Oh, then I suppose she didn't review her debut on the news - when she bad-mouthed Kelly? - She did not.
Whatever, I know you're back together with her, but she's evil.
[SlGHS.]
- Hey.
KELLY: Hey.
I thought you were with David and Steve.
You guys have done a lot of work.
Do you really think this is a good idea? You being here now? It must have taken a long time.
Actually, I think we're gonna be finished today.
How about we all go to the beach tomorrow? We can hang out together.
DYLAN: Now that sounds good.
Does that sound good to you? Yeah.
That sounds great.
[PHONE RlNGS.]
It must be the printer.
- Beat.
MAN [OVER PHONE.]
: Steve Sanders.
- Speaking.
- Steve, um-- [WHlSPERS.]
It's The Chronicle.
They probably wanna syndicate-- - Why don't you let me--? - Shh.
[lN NORMAL VOlCE.]
A recommendation for Janet Sosna? MAN: Yes.
Her interview went very well.
Because her interview went so well? Well, that's MAN: She worked for you.
We'd like to get your opinion.
You'd be lucky to get her.
MAN : Oh, good.
Thanks very much.
- Yeah.
I'm sorry.
I didn't know they were gonna call here.
Is that why you're sorry? Because they called? This is something that I've been thinking about for a long time.
- Clearly.
- I'm sorry, okay? I should have told you.
I've just been really confused.
Yeah.
That makes two of us.
[STEVE SlGHS.]
- Allow me.
- Oh! Hi, ha, ha.
- Hey.
- What are you doing here? Oh, there's a coffee place next door.
I was hanging out.
I thought you were starting work at the bike shop? Yeah, it turns out I don't start for a week.
But I was thinking maybe we could, uh, drive up the coast? - Excuse me? WAYNE: If we left first thing, we could, say, get to Big Sur and back, no problem.
Big Sur? Wayne, my friend is going through hell right now.
Which, I'm sure, is a major downer.
Okay, um, I'm having my friends to the beach tomorrow.
- I'd really like you to be there.
- Sounds great.
It's just for Kelly, to kind of get her mind off things.
Oh, uh-- - What? - Well, nothing.
It's just that if I don't hit the road first thing, you know, we - No, I don't know.
- I told you I wanted to have fun.
Oh, well, whatever you do, don't let my friend's trauma prevent you from doing that.
I'll tell you what.
Why don't you go to the beach, cheer up your friend and then come by after? Then we'll order in, maybe rent a movie? [CHUCKLES.]
- You're kidding me right now.
- No, it'll be great.
Kelly needs me.
And when you're done taking care of her, we'll put on a little music, dance I'm sorry.
I think maybe this was a mistake, okay? WAYNE: Donna.
[ENGlNE REVS.]
Donna.
Donna, just-- [DANCE MUSlC PLAYlNG ON SPEAKERS.]
[KNOCKlNG.]
Yeah.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
You must be lost, Dylan's office is upstairs.
Yeah, I know where it is.
I'm getting ready to start my show, so - I didn't mean to hurt you.
- Then sleeping with Dylan in my house - probably wasn't the best idea, was it? - David, we're friends, remember? Well, that just takes the sting right out of it.
David.
- Hey.
- What? I'm sorry.
I gotta get back to work.
Hmm.
Cherise is really pretty.
[MUSlC FADES OUT.]
[SlGHS.]
Live from the After Dark on KVlB, this is David Silver.
We've got somewhere between and I'd like a quick show of hands.
Anybody out there qualify as the nice guy? WOMAN: Yeah, that's you.
You know who I'm talking about.
The go-to guy, the best friend? Don't be shy.
Come on, put up your hands so I can tell the folks at home.
That's about two-thirds.
Very good.
Very good.
Thank you.
Now listen very carefully.
You guys are losers.
MAN 1 : No way, David.
That's right.
You're doormats.
You're placeholders until the right guy comes along.
It doesn't feel too good, does it? Believe me, I'm breaking it to you the easy way.
MAN 2: Yeah.
MAN 3: That's true.
[DANCE MUSlC CONTlNUES.]
[KNOCKlNG ON DOOR.]
- Hi.
MATT: Hey.
So l, um-- I just got off the phone with the DA, and he will not be filing a gun charge.
I thought you said that they were insistent? Well, apparently they changed their minds.
Good.
Thank you.
Um You know, I think we should go somewhere.
Caribbean? Mexico? Somewhere far away and for a long time.
- Heh, that would be nice.
- Just sit around, do nothing.
Then when we come back, you'll be able to put all this behind you.
- Even my part in it.
- You were just doing your job.
- I know that.
- That I kept him out of jail? It wasn't your fault.
- I wish you believed that.
- I do.
Not yours or mine.
I feel really terrible about what I did, but I know that I didn't have a choice.
And now I just have to put it behind me.
[GUNFlRE.]
MATT: Kelly, the broom.
Where do I get it? Over there.
- What happened? - I pretended like it was over.
It is.
It's not.
It's not over.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
Hi.
You're up early.
Yeah, l, uh, thought I'd go downstairs and get something to eat.
Going to the beach today.
We're gonna hang with Kelly.
Who's we? Ahh, you are welcome to come if you want.
Oh, yeah, well, I think my invitation probably got lost in the mail.
I am inviting you right now.
It's probably better if I don't go.
Why is that? Because Donna kicked you out? Why didn't you tell me about it? I just assumed that if you knew that I didn't have a place to live then you'd feel obligated to ask me to stay here with you.
- I don't.
- Good, because everything's going so well between us right now, I don't wanna mess that up with my living situation.
I won't be long.
Um You know that Donna and Kelly are my friends.
I do know that.
You want me to let them walk all over me because they're your little friends? No, but you could try to get along.
- Is that important to you? - Yeah.
Then I will try.
[KNOCKlNG ON DOOR.]
- Hi.
- Hi.
- Can I come in? - Yeah, come.
I'm sorry about the last couple of days.
I know I've been all over the place.
Well, with what's happened to Kelly, I think we're all a little off.
I didn't get the job.
I'm sorry to hear that.
I know how much you wanted it.
- Oh, I shouldn't have come over here.
- Hey, hey.
Come on.
You're a great reporter.
You're gonna get a great job.
I know.
This isn't about work.
- Is it about Kelly? - No, this is about us.
Us? Well, when you called me at the beach house, you said we were great.
You were great.
That's what I said.
You also said you love me.
And I do.
Janet, if you came over here to make me less confused, you're not doing a real good job.
Then I guess I just better make things really clear.
I don't know if this, you and me, I don't know if it's working.
[DAVlD CHUCKLES.]
He did not use the word "downer.
' - "Major downer.
' - "Major downer.
' to describe Kelly.
I thought he was kidding.
I don't know, you know, I think we should stay in tonight.
We should rent a movie or something.
- Stop.
- No, really.
We'll listen to Ricky Martin.
- We'll live "La Vida Loca.
' - What was I thinking? You weren't thinking, okay? The whole-- It was a fling.
There's nothing wrong with that.
Except it cost me my entire relationship with Noah.
DYLAN: What's going on here? This looks pretty festive down here.
MATT: What's up? - Hey, what's up, man? MATT: You need help? Yeah, I got some stuff up in the truck if you wanna grab it.
MATT: Okay.
Anything else? Thanks, Matt.
David.
[GRUNTS.]
STEVE: Hey, where is everybody? DONNA: Hey.
DAVlD: Hey.
Matt's being a standup guy and grabbing some stuff out of the truck.
- Where's Kelly? - She said she'd meet us here.
How's she doing? Um, I don't know.
She said she needed to be alone for a little while this morning.
Steve, where's Janet? Janet, uh, she had to get the paper out.
She said she'd meet up with us though, as soon as she could.
KELLY: Janet, hi.
Hi, heh.
I'm undercover for a story on stars who binge.
I hear Charlie Sheen just really loves Nat's cinnamon French toast.
KELLY: Really? - Mm-hm.
I know, it's pathetic.
The story, my job, my life.
It's not at all like I thought it would be.
Ha, ha.
Could I be a bigger whiner? No, everyone's life starts out one way and ends up another.
I get the pleasure of knowing where it is exactly that my life changed and that is in an alley on Hollywood Boulevard.
How do you deal with that? [KELLY SlGHS.]
Knowing the moment? I don't know.
I guess you just do.
I'm pregnant.
What? [BOTH LAUGH.]
I'm happy for you.
Yeah, yeah, that's my moment.
You know, the one that's changed my life around.
Yeah, yours and Steve's.
Except I haven't told him.
Did you just find out? I just have this history of terrible pregnancies and miscarriage in my family and I wanted to make sure it was real first, you know? Janet, how, um--? How pregnant are you? - Four months.
- Four months.
So you're having a baby no matter what Steve wants.
I keep sizing him up, you know? Is he gonna be a good dad? Do I want him to be the dad? And no one can live up to that type of scrutiny.
I almost feel sorry for him.
But every time I wanna tell him, he just does something incredibly childish and I just-- I just run away, you know? I think he's gonna be fine.
- You do? - Yeah.
Ha, ha.
[SlGHS.]
Let's go somewhere.
Let's celebrate.
Yeah, I would really like to, just some other time, okay? You're the first person I've told.
How does it feel? It feels real.
Like I'm actually gonna be a mom.
[CHUCKLES.]
When did Kelly say she was gonna get here? She just said later.
Did she tell you where she was going? Just asking.
Tell you what.
I'll go look for her.
Why don't we pack up and all go? - Hey.
- Hey.
I'm just really worried about her.
Yeah, I know.
We all are.
Well, look who decided to show.
[DAVlD & DONNA LAUGHlNG.]
Our lives aren't interesting? - I saw Janet today.
- Oh, yeah? So you know she wants to break up with me then, huh? I think you guys will work it out.
You think so? Yeah.
No matter what, I predict this is gonna be a really great year for you.
[DONNA & DAVlD CHUCKLE.]
You guys ready to get going? No, let's-- Let's stay.
Whatever you wanna do, Kelly.
I want to stay just like this, for as long as we can.
