Face Off (2011) s10e14 Episode Script
Sinister Showdown (Part 2)
1 McKenzie: Previously on "Face Off" For your final challenge, you'll be creating makeups that will star in their very own horror film.
- Wow.
- Yeah! This is the lighting setup we're thinking about.
My makeup looks beautiful.
- Man, he's awesome.
- Such a cool experience.
It's too extreme.
This is my worst-case scenario.
McKenzie: And tonight I really want to win this more than anything in my entire life, because I want to build a future with my wife and family.
I'm the youngest competitor this season, but I know I have what it takes to be the next "Face Off" champion.
If I can win "Face Off," I can pursue the career that I've always wanted to do.
I really, really, really want this.
The winner of "Face Off" is [dramatic music.]
[upbeat music.]
Our director seemed very happy for the most part, but just wants to tweak some stuff.
I'm really happy with how our camera test went, but this whole journey has been exhausting.
I'm creatively depleted, I'm missing my family, but this is the finale.
I mean, I got to bring it.
Sounds like you have the least amount of changes of anyone.
I still have a lot to add, 'cause I want more.
But I was happy with yesterday.
It's a good feeling coming from the camera test, knowing that I don't have to start over anything.
I can just keep moving forward with it.
- You? - I have a lot to do.
After the camera test, we have to redesign both faces from scratch, resculpt the demon cowl, and sculpt the shoulder appliances.
And I'm afraid that we won't get it done.
- What? - Oh, [bleep.]
.
It's my son and my husband.
I am completely shocked.
- And you're crying.
- I am.
- Hi.
- I'm so proud of you.
It's my parents! It's so nice to see them.
Hi, baby.
I can't believe this is happening.
So exciting for my wife to be here.
- Hi.
- Hi, sweetheart.
Hi.
It's so emotional to be with our families again.
Oh, I missed you so much.
And I missed you too.
Been really, really difficult not being able to talk to them for so long.
How long are you here? Until the finale.
So you're gonna be at the finale? Uh-huh.
Knowing that she's supporting me at the finale, is gonna push me harder to win.
- You're in the lab.
- I know.
This is where the magic happens.
It is.
I sculpted some pretty cool stuff.
[sighs.]
I can't wait to see.
My parents are definitely a big part of the reason why I'm even here.
They have encouraged me my entire time in this business.
So, in a big way, me winning this competition would be me winning it for them.
I know I'm just the mom, but I think you're talented.
Maybe just a little bit.
- I'm proud of you.
- Thanks.
- Oh, I missed you.
- I missed you.
Did they tell you what I'm doing here? We're making a little movie, and I have to make the monsters for the movie.
- Okay.
- Yeah? [laughs.]
My family's my everything.
It's the motivation I really needed to do my best.
Say, "Good luck, Mom.
" Oh, sweetie, I am so proud of you.
Thank you.
- I love you.
- I love you.
It's definitely hard to go from that to wanting to work again, but I know that $100,000 is on the line and I got to get back into it.
You're gonna sculpt the possession face.
I'm gonna sculpt this face, and we're gonna do that now.
Okay.
Bryce wanted the possession makeup to have a different anatomy.
So I'm having Anna sculpt more simple version of the face.
And because Bryce had a lot of things that he wanted to change for the demon face, I'm getting rid of the horn on the nose and going with more of a sleek design with slits in it, and then Kaleb will be working the shoulder piece.
We need to do an extreme amount of work in a very short amount of time.
After the camera test, we have a ton to do.
John wants more with Sam, so we're scrapping the trauma makeup with his eye, and instead, making more of this disease makeup, which we will have sticks coming out of.
Johnny takes the arm prosthetics for Sam, and for the demon, John wants a scar right in the middle of his forehead.
So Yvonne is sculpting that piece.
I just hope we can find a way to get everything done.
[laughing.]
Do you need help? [laughing.]
He's going in two.
I'm in a really good place, 'cause I don't have to retrace any of my steps.
I'm just adding to an already really good makeup.
It's definitely an advantage, because while the other artists are busy resculpting, I get to work on the full torso.
That'll add to my character.
Mel gets the texture plates going, and I have Robert working on the teeth.
[machine whirring.]
Once I get all of the forms blocked out, I start adding wrinkles and cracking to give it that dry look.
At the same time, Kaleb and Anna finish sculpting their pieces.
Thank you.
And then we all go back to get the stuff molded.
I just hope everything goes well.
Time is ticking away, and we manage to get our sculptures in really good shape.
And now we're tag-teaming to get all our molds finished, and I just hope that John is happy with what we've done.
[dramatic music.]
All right.
Whoo! We got it.
We pull up to the mansion where we're filming, and it's crazy.
People are just everywhere.
I've never seen anything like it before.
And there's this gigantic makeup trailer, and I'm just super pumped.
The first thing I want to do is run the demon's second foot in poly foam because we didn't get a chance to do it at the lab, and it's gonna look really wonky if we only have one foot on our guy.
While I'm doing that, Johnny is gonna take the lead on applying the possession makeup, and Yvonne is going to start applying our demon character.
I have 11 appliances to apply, and in the camera test, he was starting to kind of sweat the pieces off, so I'm using Telesis mixed with zinc oxide, which is an antiperspirant, so it should keep him from sweating, at least in those spots.
They came out.
We have feet.
After I finish running poly foam for the foot, I jump on to the demon character with Yvonne.
We try to quickly finish getting everything down and stuck on really good.
And now it's time to paint.
I'm bouncing back and forth between both makeups, trying to coordinate and get things done, and it's like, go, go, go, go, go.
15 minutes.
That's time, everybody.
We did it, and the characters look awesome in real life, but the real test is coming up to see how they look on film, and, God, I hope they look good.
All right, oily people in first.
This is what "Face Off" is all about.
I fought my way into the final three.
And it all comes down to this.
This is my first time on set.
So, while I'm very excited for this, at the same time, I'm super nervous.
- Oh, my God.
- All right.
- There it is! - All right! - Oh! - Look at you.
- Oh! - I'm digging it.
Give me a hug, baby.
Come on.
Our director, John, and the judges are, like, right there.
I just really hope that they're all happy with what we've done.
- This way, guys.
- All right.
[ominous music.]
Let's get you guys inside.
And watch your feet as you go in.
It's a little tight in here, okay? The first thing we're shooting is the possessed makeup.
Oh, my God.
And we're filming a nighttime scene in the middle of the day.
You look up.
You see her.
It's really amazing.
I hope it goes well.
[Laughs.]
- Melissa, come with me.
- Yes.
And then we can see it on the monitor, okay? Okay.
1-7.
Take one.
Action.
[sinister music.]
- Help me! - See here? A little bit of sheen on him will help.
Seeing my makeup on camera is really amazing to watch.
But John immediately asked us to add more shine on the character, so it looks like it's glistening.
It's really high pressure, and I'm just trying to do the best job I can.
Take two.
Action.
[upbeat electronic music.]
Help, help, please.
That little bit of sweat gloss added to his shoulders - Yeah.
- That's nice.
That's great.
It's awesome.
That's it, that's it.
- Oh! - Yes, yes, yes! - Oh, yeah! - Camera cuts! Camera cuts! Let's move on! John seems very happy with the possessed character, which is a huge relief.
That was a fantastic job, guys.
All right, let's reset.
Let's move on from this setup.
Oh, my God.
That was [bleep.]
awesome.
Now it's time for our demon.
And it's very nerve-racking because he is the central character in our story.
Uh, Melissa, can we make his eye area - a little more gooey too? - Okay.
Oh, it's so gross.
1-7 frame.
Take one.
Action.
Really clench those arms.
Yeah.
Feel it.
And release your mouth.
Open it up.
Yes! [whispering.]
So scary! So I got to admit, it's a pretty cool-looking cyclops.
They seem to have really hit the right notes for the director.
To see this character and know that I made it, it's beyond what I could have imagined.
Camera cuts.
Great job, dude.
You happy? It looks fantastic.
This is absolutely crazy.
It's my first time on set, and it's insane.
I'm so glad that I have this opportunity.
It's super cool to see the makeup on the monitor.
It's so cool to see, like, them as they are meant to be seen, as the director is seeing them in his head.
Team Badass.
Team Badass.
[laughter.]
[dramatic music.]
It's the day of our film shoot.
Come on.
We get to our makeup trailer.
We have five hours of application, and this is it.
Okay, let's do this.
I am extremely excited, but at the same time, I am terrified.
It's a roller coaster of emotion.
You guys ready? Anna will be applying the possession makeup and painting most of it.
Well, today we're gonna bald-cap you, and you're gonna have a wig.
Anna knows horror.
And she's really good at application.
Pull these up a little bit.
And because there aren't that many pieces for the possession makeup, I'm having her focus on making sure everything is blended down perfectly.
Do you want me to pluck more on this side? - That's good.
- Okay.
I want to do a great job.
I really want Rob to succeed.
I want to see these makeups look gorgeous and terrifying and amazing on film.
For the demon, Kaleb and I will be applying all the pieces as fast as we can, and hopefully that leaves us time to paint both makeups.
We're gonna test-fit everything.
I want to do an oil tear-drop gag for the face, and I have to figure it out before it goes on my model.
I'm running the tubing up the center of his forehead and down the back of his head, and then the model will pump oil through the tubing so it looks like he's crying oil.
Kaleb and I finally get all the stuff applied to the demon, but now time is getting away from us.
Make sure, like, all of this around it is glued down.
We still have to glue down their eye edges and mouth edges, finish painting everything Why is there so much pink on his neck? Add moss, add the demon's teeth, and we have to add all the oil to bring everything together.
That's time.
Time's up, and these makeups look so cool.
We cut it close, guys.
We cut it a little close.
We really did.
But at the same time, I was happy before the camera test, and that turned out to be a complete disaster.
So, at this point, it could go either way.
Oh, my goodness.
- Ooh.
- He's gonna be a mess.
The oil demon.
- Ooh.
- Awesome.
When we get to set, this is when all the nerves kick in for me.
- Hi.
- Hello, there.
- Hi, guys.
- How's this working? I'm the youngest competitor this season, so it's definitely a newer experience, and being on a set is a little nerve-racking.
You are a terrifying SOB.
Let's go shoot this.
We're shooting our demon character's scene first.
We're adding all the last-minute details, like the dust and the dirt, and immediately, the pressure's really up because this has to go well.
Maybe right as you rise, it's a little bit of a shudder, something that's gonna, like, release that dust on the air.
Okay.
We also have to do the oil gag.
This gag has to work.
When he stands up, just hit him with it.
- Okay.
- Okay.
If it doesn't work, Bryce will be really disappointed, and I don't want that to happen.
Okay, are we ready? Let's do this.
Scene 10 apple.
Take one.
And action.
Thank God that it looks really cool.
Like, you can see the oil dripping down his face, like, out of his eyes.
Okay, that's cut.
Let's cut and reset.
It looks so good.
Hold that.
It's a really cool effect, and it's definitely a big relief.
Look at all the goo coming out of his eyeballs.
Nice.
When it stands up into the light and the light is swinging at the same time, it's beautiful.
I want you guys to see how good that looked.
It looks so good.
[laughing.]
Oh, my God.
That last lunge made my heart stop.
I think it's great.
The possession makeup is up next.
And it's just as important that it looks great.
Let's just, like, loosen up her hair a little bit, get some water in there, and then we're gonna put her in place.
We have to maintain a lot of oil for her.
Close your eyes for now.
When the oil dries out, it gets really hard and sticky, so we have to keep her hair moist, and then for her mouth Take a swig.
We have to reset the oil dripping out before each shot.
It's a lot of stress.
Okay, here we go.
Roll camera, please.
10 Carly.
Take one, mark.
Action.
You shouldn't have come here.
Oh, my God.
That is so scary.
Rob! Okay, cut, cut.
We got it.
We got it.
That was great.
It feels like Japanese horror ghost and making it more featureless just increases the creep factor.
The both of them really work well together.
They resemble each other.
That's so cool.
I'm feeling I'm feeling good.
I'm feeling good.
We're so excited.
Yeah! I think today went really well.
The makeups held up.
I'm happy.
My team is happy.
Bryce is happy.
I know everyone says it, but I really couldn't have asked for a better team.
I'm really hoping that the judges love my makeup as much as I do.
I love the makeups.
I think they looked terrifying and amazing and gorgeous.
And I'm so excited.
All good words, all good words.
The entire competition as a whole has just felt surreal.
It's been such a cool experience, and I feel like I've grown so much as an artist.
This is probably the best creature I've ever made.
I'm so glad that you picked us.
I am very proud of myself and my team, and I really hope win.
- A-team.
- Yeah.
It's the day of my film shoot, and I'm extremely pumped.
I love our concept.
I cannot wait to get this going and try and win $100,000.
- Yay! - What's up, guys? Hello, hello.
Today I'm just gonna tackle most of the demon.
Mel is working on the possessed makeup, and Robert's working on the teeth, as well as the bugs that'll be crawling all over the makeup.
It was really cool to sculpt all of these extra things.
But now I have to find a way to get everything applied and paint it before time is up.
For the camera test, I was really bummed out because I overpainted the possessed makeup.
It grayed very quickly, and in trying to bring it back, I ripped up a lot of edges, so I'm hoping to dodge a lot of those same mistakes in today's application.
Walter, are you okay with this? Yeah, that looks good.
I'm loving the application, but we still have a lot to do.
Just get the edges and then get the Aquacolor, and you can go in with Aquacolor too.
There is a lot of real estate to paint.
And there's so many little details.
Sponging, flicking, airbrushing, adding different vines, the little foam pieces, putting a little bit of moss on there, making sure that these two makeups are as camera-ready as possible.
All right, guys, that's time.
I am extremely excited.
I love my demon character.
Yeah, that looks cool.
I can't wait to get him out there and see what he's gonna do in front of the camera.
- Whoa, be so careful! - Oh, [bleep.]
.
I pull up to set on this extremely cool location, and I'm so eager to get these makeups on film.
- Whoa.
- Oh, my goodness.
Wow.
- Look at that.
- Nice.
What's up, guys? I couldn't be more excited to see what Ryan thinks.
It's about to go down.
Let's go inside, and let's make some movies.
- Cool.
- Cool.
Let's do it.
We jump right into it and start off with the possession makeup.
- You guys ready? - Ready, man.
Is there something else you see that you want? Yeah, let's just go a little bit - a little bit on the teeth.
- Okay.
I think she should just swig a little bit and spit it out.
Okay.
I want to be with my makeup the entire time.
I want to make sure my makeup is on point and also take care of whatever Ryan needs.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- I think we're ready.
- All right, here we go.
Roll camera, please.
Scene 8, take one, mark.
And action.
Martha! Martha! [screaming and grunting.]
Baby, what do I do? [whispering indistinctly.]
What? Pull.
No! Cut.
Great.
Great, guys.
Good with her? Yeah, it looks awesome.
I kind of like how the vines play underneath the skin, where it's pushed up on the side of the face.
It definitely helps integrate it instead of just being a couple of sticks - wrapped around her head.
- Both: Mm-hmm.
I think they really capitalized on giving a static makeup some animation built into the sculpture, 'cause it does feel like this vine is diving in and out of her flesh.
- Do we need his snapping vine? - Yeah.
It's time for the demon shot, and big boy's gonna step in, and I'm extremely excited about it.
Let me ask you this.
How do you guys feel about putting some actual dirt on the makeup? Yeah.
Ryan has this great idea.
He wants to throw dirt on it.
So, when he gets up, dirt falls off the makeup, creating a steamy mist.
Action.
[heavy rock music.]
He is looking extremely massive.
It's exactly how I imagined it.
And I believe that I have the biggest, the most terrifying, and the most advanced makeup in the finale, and I feel fantastic about it.
Oh, that looks rad.
That looks rad in those lights.
I really love the way that lichen and all that stuff they have glued all over him picks up that blue light.
- It looks like it's luminescent.
- Yeah.
You're "likin'" it? - I'm "likin'" it.
- "Likin'" it.
I'm "likin'" it.
That's right.
Cut.
Awesome.
Perfect, guys.
That's a wrap for Terry.
[cheers and applause.]
We're done with my demon.
I'm thrilled with how things went.
Watching it come to life on the monitor, it was exciting.
It was really cool.
I want a monster hug, dude.
Yeah! [laughs.]
And I couldn't have done anything without Mel, without Robert.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
And I owe them everything.
I think I did more work than anyone.
It is definitely the best makeup I've done since I've been here, so I hope I win.
It would mean the absolute world to me, and it would change my life.
Thank you so much, man.
You did great.
Thank you very much.
Thanks, man.
[laughing.]
Those pants.
Welcome, everyone.
How did it feel for you guys to be on set? - That was amazing.
- Really cool.
Little crazy.
Well, congratulations again to all three of you.
Now, just as a reminder of what is on the line tonight, this season's champion will win a VIP trip to one of Kryolan's 85 international locations, a 2016 Fiat 500, and $100,000.
[cheers and applause.]
All right, so why don't we check in with our directors over here.
How did everything go for you guys these last few days? It was intense.
Shooting was just it's like a blur.
I'm still in the blur right now.
But what we accomplished together, it was pretty incredible.
Absolutely.
It was super cool.
That was a first for me, yeah.
[applause.]
All right, well, let's say hello to our judges owner of Alchemy Studio, Glenn Hetrick Good evening.
Oscar- and Emmy-award-winning makeup artist Ve Neill Good evening, everybody.
Creature and concept designer, Neville Page.
Hello, everyone.
[applause.]
And, of course, we are joined again by the man behind huge horror hits, like "Paranormal Activity," "The Purge," "Insidious," and "Sinister" Mr.
Jason Blum.
Thank you.
Thank you.
How you doing? - Very well.
- Excellent.
Well, before we talk to each of our finalists, I should let everyone know, we showed Jason footage from each of your films to get him up to speed.
So, Jason, what did you think about what you saw? Super, super creative and just really cool.
I was completely blown away, actually.
All right, well, it is time to get down to business.
So, for this finale, we asked you to create two characters a demon and its possessed victim to star in your very own horror films.
And the film scripts were adapted by our directors from the Christopher Denham story, "Hellhole" in Jason's book, "The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares.
" So, with that in mind, the judges would like to speak with each of you before they choose a winner.
Melissa, you are up first.
[applause.]
Team Badass! [laughter.]
- Hi, Melissa.
- Hi, Glenn.
Start off by explaining the concept behind your makeups and your process.
Our concept is a demon who is trying to come into our world through this doll, Mr.
Sticks.
So we wanted to incorporate elements from the demon in Sam's makeup and draw from our environment and have references to the sinister ominous oil rigs.
I'm very happy with how it turned out.
As are we.
We loved how cohesive the whole thing was.
The use of the actual organic elements in the prosthetics helped a lot to tie it to the nature of the story.
What I really liked about the demon is that it was a mix between a two-eyed creature and a single-eyed creature.
The shape of the actual face felt really, really original.
Oh, thank you.
And I have to say, that's where she made it better, 'cause I actually asked for a circle at first, - and she said - Really? Ooh, I love I love getting into it.
She said to me, "But that's, like, been done so many times.
" Yeah.
It was like, "All right, cool.
" [laughter.]
I have to give you kudos.
I really loved the paint job.
And there was a really great over-the-shoulder shot of him with that mottling that all the white and the grey.
It was very effective.
It looked really terrific.
- Well done.
- Thank you.
All right, Melissa.
It's time to check out your film, "Hellhole," directed by John Wynn.
They're about to roll my film, and the anticipation is killing me.
Here's the culmination of all this hard, hard, hard work, and I've never been this nervous and excited at the same time.
All right, Melissa, it's time to check out your film, directed by John Wynn.
The Internet's working, but only in the basement.
[gentle music.]
The luxuries of home ownership.
[tense music.]
[low growling.]
[growling and hissing.]
- Sam, wake up.
- Baby, not now.
[ominous tapping.]
[whispering.]
Sam? Sam, wake up.
[low, ghostly growling.]
[suspenseful music.]
[stairs creaking.]
[scary music.]
It's probably some kids being stupid.
[ghostly murmurs.]
[keys clacking and screen beeping.]
[eerie screaming.]
- [breathing heavily.]
- Sam? Sam? [breathing heavily.]
Please Sam! Sam, what's happened? Sam? [continues breathing heavily.]
[growling.]
[screams.]
[cheers and applause.]
Awesome, Melissa.
Thank you so much.
- You can step back.
- Thank you.
Thank you, everyone.
Walter, you're up next.
[cheers and applause.]
Walter, could you please tell us about your two characters you made for "Hellhole"? Well, my demon was very of the Earth, so I went with muscle fibers looking more like trees all throughout one side and then the pumpkin all on the other side.
And then with the possessed makeup, we really just wanted to have the vines consuming her.
I think you did have the biggest guy out there.
- [chuckles.]
Yeah.
- [chuckles.]
I loved the asymmetry of it.
I liked all the boils and all the crazy stuff.
Your possession makeup looked like it had movement, and it was very effective.
How did you work with him? We sort of had this bouncing back and forth, and he took the textures and the ideas that I wanted, but he put them into something that was really terrifying.
It was very successful.
You covered a lot of ground.
That's one of the things that really stood out with this particular set of makeups is just the sheer volume of work, all finished to a high level.
Some very good stuff.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
I thought both the creatures were awesome.
The one with the vines where you can see so much real skin of the actor, the way the vine came out of the real skin was really inventive and great.
Thank you very much.
All right, Walter, let's take a look at your finished film, directed by Ryan Spindell.
[ominous music.]
[light string music.]
You got to check out the barn.
It's so awesome.
It's not the barn I'm worried about.
Isn't a vegetable farm supposed to have vegetables? I know it's rough now.
But a little man power, I'll have this place up and going in no time.
[giggles, smooches.]
Well, I'm gonna use my woman power and unpack some boxes.
[chuckles.]
All right.
[tense music.]
Sam! [camera shutter clicks.]
A little help, please.
Coming.
[light upbeat music.]
[computer beeping.]
[demonic computer voice.]
[electricity whining and buzzing.]
[thunder rumbling.]
[dramatic music.]
Sam? [vines hissing.]
[glass shattering.]
The long-forgotten demon lord [woman screaming.]
offspring of the goddess Demeter Ancient civilizations would sacrifice a young couple to [tense music.]
Martha! [vines hissing.]
[thunder rumbles.]
Oh, baby! [grunting and panting.]
What do I do? What do I do? [whispers indistinctly.]
What? [thunder booms.]
No! [rumbling.]
Martha! [wind howling.]
[vines cracking.]
[screams.]
[terrifying music.]
[demon growling.]
[demon roaring.]
[breathing heavily.]
[demon roaring.]
[cheerful music.]
[faint roaring.]
[applause.]
Walter, that turned out great.
You can head back.
Thank you.
[applause.]
All right, Rob, it's your turn.
[applause.]
I have never in my life been so nervous.
I really like my makeups, but I'm terrified at the same time.
This is the finale.
This is the end.
The entire competition all depends on what the judges have to say.
All right, Rob, it's your turn.
Please step forward.
Team Koala! [applause.]
- Hi, Rob.
- Hi.
Tell us about your characters.
When this family moved here and was violating the earth with the oil pumps and everything, it released this malevolent spirit.
And for the demon, Bryce wanted a subterranean creature.
And then for the possession, he wanted a subtle human makeup with correlations to the demon, like it was affecting her physically.
The one word for me that defines what you achieved is "efficacy.
" You created a character that had classic demon features, and it's allowing the audience to quickly get exactly what you're trying to communicate.
And that success trickled down to your possession character.
I really like both the characters.
I loved particularly the little dust that flickered off the demon.
It almost looked like an evil magic dust, which I thought was great.
I appreciate the quality of the quantity that you did.
You focused on the right things.
On your possessed, the overall appliance, other than the brow and everything to tie in, it softened the human features to the point where you couldn't see the human anymore.
What a brilliant way to conceptualize showing the possession.
This man.
You guys worked really well together.
Rob has great ideas and instincts and imagination.
And it looks great, and it's terrifying, and I love it.
I thought it was a stroke of genius.
Congratulations.
Well done.
Yeah.
Thank you.
All right, Rob, let's take a look at your finished film, directed by Bryce McGuire.
[gentle banjo music.]
All right, my lady, welcome to your new home.
Oh, it's lovely.
Wait till you see the inside.
Here it is.
What I want to do is erect three derricks on the north side.
Mm-hmm.
You want to see our new bedroom? [laughs.]
I got you! [both chuckling.]
[haunting music.]
[birds cawing.]
[machinery squeaking.]
[machinery continues squeaking.]
It's just an angry neighbor in a mask.
We don't have any neighbors.
You know, I talked to my parents, and they said that we could stay with them - for a little while until we - I'm not going anywhere.
[machinery rumbling.]
[insects chirping.]
[ominous music.]
[water running.]
[gurgling.]
[shrieks.]
Sam, there's something something wrong with the well again.
[liquid dripping and gurgling.]
[squelching.]
[door creaking closed.]
Sam? [liquid dripping.]
[rumbling and growling.]
[screams.]
Martha? Martha! Martha.
What happened? Hey, talk to me.
Hey.
Hey.
Hey.
What happened, Martha? [distorted voice.]
You shouldn't have come here.
[growling.]
[roaring.]
[screams.]
[insects chirping.]
[machinery squeaking.]
[applause.]
Rob, thank you very much.
- Thank you.
- You can step back.
- [whistles.]
- Nice.
[applause.]
All right, guys, it's time for the judges to deliberate in private and choose this season's champion.
Thank you.
All right, judges, so let's talk about tonight's finalists.
Why don't we start with Melissa? I thought she did a great job doing what the director wanted.
That really is at the core of the challenge tonight.
Where Melissa did deviate was when he said he wanted a round, orbital hole, and that's where she created something much more interesting.
Coming up with an original way to solve that problem not only made it better, but it created, for me, the best piece of the makeup.
I was a little confused about the possessed character initially.
It really wasn't evident when you see him at first.
He just looked like a guy who had boils and sores all over him, but when they did the reverse shot, you could see all the twigs coming out of his head, so that was a cool effect, I think.
All right, let's move on to Walter.
Walter's demon was very cool.
I loved the misshapen gourd and he really got the director's vision.
They came up with so many brilliant ways to cover a lot of ground, and it still was quality.
The two characters felt like they were from the same world.
Also, the fact that it comes from this collection of stories How do you think it resonates as far as its actual source material? It's funny, none of what I saw was like what I imagined, but I would say, I feel like it was all a lot better.
It's pretty awesome.
All right, let's move on to Rob.
Absolutely stunning.
He managed his time so well and focused on what needed to be focused on in regard to the classic features of a demon, but turning up the volume on his style.
It was absolutely beautiful.
I particularly loved the horn arrangement.
And that twisted motion, it was so cool.
It was like he had a crown of horns.
One of the boldest choices was the way that the color came out.
If that thing would have been any busier, color-wise, it would have just been mud.
- Absolutely.
- That was really awesome.
Yeah, it was done so well.
All right, then, judges, have you chosen a winner? - I think we have.
- Yeah.
Excellent, 'cause now comes the fun part.
Let's bring them back out.
[suspenseful music.]
It's time to crown this season's champion.
So, Glenn, who is the winner of "Face Off"? The winner of "Face Of" is The winner of "Face Of" is [suspenseful music.]
Rob.
What? [cheers and applause.]
[upbeat music.]
Oh, my God.
I just won.
I just won "Face Off.
" You are the winner of "Face Off"! Congratulations! Holy crap! I cannot believe that I won.
This has been the most life-changing experience I've every had.
It's crazy.
Good job, Rob.
I'm excited for Rob.
He is incredibly talented.
I didn't win, but it was a dream of mine to be on "Face Off," and I'm so proud of myself for making it this far.
It was an awesome experience.
This competition has meant everything to me.
I mean, I've grown tremendously.
I've learned so, so much.
This was a unique experience, and I'm forever grateful for that.
Here are the keys to your brand-new car.
- Congratulations.
- That works! The fact that my parents are here and I get to share this huge moment with them is one of the coolest things about all of this.
If someone gives you an opportunity, take it and run with it, because you could do something great.
[cheers and applause.]
- Wow.
