I feel like I'm here to work with you.
I pick Gwen.
I'm so ready to share my journey.
Are you serious?! Adam: It doesn't matter what the genre is.
Great singers are great singers.
It never ceases to be really exhilarating to experience being a coach on "The Voice.
" Alicia: I definitely want to support young artists this season.
I feel like when you believe in someone, they are given permission to, like, bloom.
Blake: I've won this show five times.
You know, at the end of the day, it's the artists that win.
It's just our jobs to help them get there.
Daly: Tonight the search for the greatest voice in America heats up.
Just like fire That voice is next-level killer.
No hugging! Illegal motion.
[Grunts.]
I can relate to you.
"With a surprising move, Gwen Stefani takes the lead.
" Gwen knows nothing about girls from the South.
"Looks like Blake takes the lead, but may be sleeping on the couch tonight.
" Watch this madness Daly: It's the most shocking - What?! - Wow! How can that be you? Daly: and unexpected What? If you would pick me as your coach Daly: night of the blind auditions yet.
"The Voice" starts right now.
Season 12! Season 12! You better watch out, man.
Are you really going there, okay? Oh, really going there? Oh, get ready.
What are we gonna do to him? You mean the "Nightmare Before Christmas"? You gonna make jokes about, like, prison, "Oh, my prison outfit"? That's a good one, too.
That's a good one.
Why don't you shut up? [Laughs.]
I'm headed to West Orange, New Jersey, where aspiring singer Autumn Turner works with kids, helping them learn a sport that she's done her whole life.
Up, up, up.
Extend, extend, extend, extend.
I've been coaching ice skating for about nine years.
Being on the ice is such an amazing feeling.
Take your time.
Really think about it.
I remember being that little girl that's like, "I just want to learn how to do all this stuff.
" Stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch.
That's really good.
My mom put me in figure skating when I was 3 years old.
It was such an exhilarating experience to be able to compete.
Janine: When she started getting into figure skating, she was really tiny for her age.
And to have that boldness when you get out there, I would be scared to death, but she thrived on that.
Autumn: My mother raised me as a single mom.
She's always pushed me to follow my dreams and never give up.
It really allowed me to find who I am, and I think music is definitely a huge part of that.
So, tell me when music really played an important part in your life.
It wasn't really like a huge, huge thing until high school, and that's when I joined this all-girl group.
We recorded music together.
We sang together for about 2 1/2 years.
It just didn't seem like we were getting anywhere, and I kind of, like, let music go.
But now I can actually take time for myself again and do something that I love to do.
Sounds like our blind audition's gonna be really telling for you as far as the path in your life.
Yes.
For my blind audition, I'll be singing "Last Dance" by Donna Summer.
It's about the last dance, and this might be my last chance to change my life.
To have a chance to work with the biggest stars in the music industry that is the closest I will ever get to going to the next level.
So for me to turn a chair, it would be incredible.
Oh, here she comes.
Last dance Last chance for love Whoa! [Cheers and applause.]
Yes, it's my last chance For romance tonight She made it.
She did it.
Oh, my God! I need you by me 'Cause when I'm bad I'm so, so bad Wow.
So let's dance the last dance Let's dance the last dance Let's dance the last dance Toni-i-i-ight Oh, I need you By me, beside me, to guide me To hold me, to scold me 'Cause when I'm bad, I'm so, so bad So, come on, baby Let's dance tonight Ahh [Cheers and applause.]
Oh, my God! Yeah! Wow! What is your name? What planet are you from? My name is Autumn Turner, and I'm from Montclair, New Jersey.
Wow.
When I turned around, which was before the rest of them fell like dominoes [Laughter.]
the grace and the soul and everything about you rarely comes around ever, let alone on this show.
I will just tell you, there is no length to which I would not go to make this happen for Team Adam because you could easily win this show.
[Cheers and applause.]
Yes, yes! Yes! What's What's your deal? Like, are you a professional? I am a figure-skating coach.
Wow.
Well, Blake's actually an amazing figure skater.
[Laughter.]
[Applause.]
- Hi, Autumn.
- Hi! I'm so blown away.
Obviously, I don't have the skill that you do.
That's not true.
Yes, you do.
No, I'm saying I can't do the thing she did at the end.
Oh, my God! - What was that? - I don't think anybody can.
Like I said, she's not from Earth.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
[Laughter.]
But I mean, what's so special about right now in my life is that I'm in a new place where I can offer all the experience that I've had to somebody like you who has this dream.
Like, I've already lived your dream, and I think I could learn a lot from you.
You're incredible, and I'd love to work with you.
[Cheers and applause.]
Oh, my God.
Thank you so much.
Alicia: I was just enjoying the way that it grew and your determination to show different styles.
You're probably one of those women that are just good at everything.
[Laughter.]
Like, who's a figure skater and an incredible [Clears throat.]
[Laughter.]
Apparently, Blake is.
I'd pay good money to see that happen.
[Laughter.]
That's a show.
All right, we don't want to see that.
We want to see Autumn.
I'm so excited that we have the East Coast connection, and I would love to be your coach, Autumn.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
I was sitting back there, thinking, "This girl is unbelievable.
" And especially when I saw Alicia turn around.
That always hurts.
Yeah.
- That was so good.
- Thank you! I am dying for you right now.
I am drowning in a pool of coaches right now.
I'd love to have you on my team.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
So, who do you pick as your coach? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Don't say that.
No, no, no.
Why do you No, no, no, no, no.
Why do you always try to get the last word in? Don't be playing shenanigans! This is an opportunity that I will deeply regret if I don't get to work with you, and you also make me sound a lot more eloquent, so thank you for that.
You You bring the best out of me, so I would like the chance to bring the best out of you.
I just would love for you to have an amazing time, living your dream, and being present in the moment [Sighs.]
and allowing yourself to just be free of anything else in your head.
I would love to be your coach.
That was very well said, Alicia.
- Thank you.
I mean it.
- I love you.
It's a love party up in here.
Alicia: We're about to have a love party with Autumn now.
A little bit inappropriate, but Who are you [Laughter.]
Who are you gonna pick to be your coach? [Audience shouting.]
Ay-yi-yi! What do you think? Adam, Adam.
Please.
I pick Come on, Autumn! Alicia.
Don't believe me just watch [Cheers and applause.]
Come over here! I love Autumn.
She's so, so Incredible, incredible.
Adam: How could you not take Alicia? She's Alicia.
She's amazing.
But I will always fight the good fight.
Don't believe me just watch I thought I did really good on that one.
- You did.
- I did.
It'll be so nuts.
I chose Alicia because she said all of the stuff that I say to my students.
Like, just be free, be yourself.
So I was like, "Yes! I pick Alicia.
" Whoo-hoo-hoo! [Laughs.]
[Audience shouting.]
What up?! [Chuckles.]
It's not a jacket.
It's a sweater, okay? [Laughter.]
Blake: That's got to be embarrassing! The problems that you have I can't even fit them on a list.
But your sweater would make for a good list, 'cause it's already got the lines and [Laughter.]
That's so stupid.
Daly: Coming up You ain't nothing but a hound dog Whoo! What?! What are they feeding these children? [Laughter.]
Oh! I am willing to get myself in bad trouble here.
Adam: "Looks like Blake takes the lead, but may be sleeping on the couch tonight.
" [Laughter.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Jesse: A lot has led up to this point.
I've been grinding for a long time.
Everything that I've done before this is preparation for this exact moment.
For my blind audition, I'll be playing a guitar that I literally shaped with my two hands, and when I walk out on that stage, I'm ready to shape my future.
My first guitar my dad gave me.
It was just a cheap-parts guitar.
Me and him stripped it down.
Building that guitar was one of the things that also inspired me to play, because I was a part of it.
After high school, I worked 50-plus hours a week at an auto-parts store, playing on the nights and weekends when I could.
For 15 years, been playing hundreds of gigs for 5 to 10 people at a time.
[Chuckles.]
But in February of 2015, our band got a call from Prince.
And I was like, "What?" [Laughs.]
I couldn't believe it.
He wanted me to play guitar and sing background vocals for Judith Hill from Season 4 of "The Voice.
" She'd been working with Prince for a few years after her time on the show.
My wife she's my number-one supporter.
She said, "You have to do it.
" If she wouldn't have believed in me, I don't think I would've believed in me.
So, next day, I put my two-week notice in on my job.
Was an amazing experience, but it lasted only four months.
Later that year, my dad passed away.
It was, uh, very difficult, you know, seeing your your best friend and your dad gone.
It's tough.
He molded me into who I am today.
I think music was one of the things that helped pull me through.
My dad introduced me to blues, soul, and rock, which is the type of musician I want to be.
So tonight, I'll be singing "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon.
I know that wherever my dad is, he's proud of me.
[Chuckles.]
- Come on, Jesse, you got it.
- He's gonna do this.
- He's gonna do this.
- Come on, Jesse.
you can rock this.
Oh I was dreaming of the past And my heart was beating fast I began to lose control I began to lose control I didn't mean to hurt you, no And I'm so sorry I made you cry Yes! I didn't want to hurt you No, I didn't, baby 'Cause I'm just a jealous guy Just a jealous guy I didn't mean to hurt you, no And I'm sorry I made you cry I didn't want to hurt you No, I didn't, baby 'Cause I'm just a jealous guy, yeah 'Cause I'm just a jealous guy 'Cause I'm just a jealous guy, yeah [Cheers and applause.]
Nice.
- Wow! - Yeah! Gwen: Oh, my God! - Wow.
- Whoo! Wow.
Thank you.
Thank you, man.
Appreciate it.
I-I honestly, like, I don't care whatever the reason is There's no one with ears that should have not turned around for that.
[Cheers and applause.]
Like, sorry.
What's your name, man? My name is Jesse Larson.
I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
[Cheers and applause.]
Yeah, man.
First of all, your playing is r-ridiculous Thank you.
but the way you sing and the way you play, it's one of the coolest things I've ever heard in my life.
I hear CeeLo Green in there, okay? I hear the proficiency of Eddie Van Halen sometimes.
Thank you very much.
And then you're singing a John Lennon song.
When you win and it's one chair, it's gonna be like, no one will ever not listen to me ever again.
[Laughter.]
So thank you, Jesse.
I appreciate that.
Thank you very much.
Jesse, that voice is, like, next-level killer.
Hoo! Like, the only reason I didn't turn around is that if I did, I felt like there was a strong possibility that Adam would have yet another person not on his team.
[Laughter.]
See, all of this was a ploy.
I wanted to make them feel badly for me so that they wouldn't press [Laughs.]
and I could secretly snag the winner of this entire competition.
- Welcome to my team, Jesse.
- Well, you did it, Adam.
[Cheers and applause.]
Adam: Jesse is a real bluesy singer, but really a big complete voice, and his guitar playing is incredible.
I love having a guy like Jesse.
That's my thing.
That guy was so rad.
Whoo.
Y'all said hi to Beetlejuice? [Laughter.]
You're so lame.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to night two of the blind auditions.
You look young.
How old are you? I'm 15.
How excited are you to be on "The Voice"? I am so excited.
Everywhere that I've been, I've been jumping around and now my feet hurt.
I'm Aliyah Moulden, I'm 15 years old, and I'm from La Habra, California.
My mom's Mexican.
Thank you for being my daughter.
[Chuckling.]
My dad was African-American, so growing up, music from both sides of the family have influenced me.
I started performing everywhere I could, from schools to churches to charity events.
And I got the opportunity to open up for Jesse McCartney, and I got to perform at the "BET Experience.
" And I got to go to the BET Awards, and that was great, so That was probably the best weekend of my life until I got the chance to be a part of "The Voice.
" Which I know! There's a light right here! Like, I'm here, but I feel like I'm dreaming.
My mom has sacrificed a lot for me to be here because she's a single mom.
My dad passed away when I was a month old.
I was pregnant with Aliyah, and her dad found out that he had terminal cancer and he only had six months to live.
And, um She was born on August 14th.
He passed away on September 17th.
So she was barely a month old.
She only has one picture with him.
Even though I didn't get to know my dad, he had a lot of musical talent, and I feel like I got it from him.
He was a drummer, and music was a big part of me getting over a lot of the difficulties that I had growing up.
I'm a sophomore in high school, so I think I have a lot more to prove 'cause I'm not as seasoned as a lot of the other performers.
And being able to get advice from somebody who has done so much in the industry would change my life.
If one coach had to turn around, I would hope it would be Alicia.
Her ability to be so confident in herself is something that she could help me with.
Ooh, I can't wait.
There she is! There she is! She's coming! You ain't nothin' but a Hound dog Been snoopin' round my door You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Been snoopin' round my door You can wag your tail But I ain't gonna feed you no more You made me feel so blue You made me weep and moan You made me feel so blue You made me weep and moan You don't really want a woman All you're lookin' for is a home You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Been snoopin' round my door You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Round my door You can wag your tail [Cheering.]
Hit the road, get on the dog's trail You can weep, oh! Moan and wail Just know that I ain't gonna feed you No more [Cheers and applause.]
No! Get away from my door [Cheers and applause.]
What?! - Whoo! - Oh! Three! [Cheering.]
What?! How can that be you? Wow! How can that be you? There's no way.
Yeah, that was me.
You are the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Thanks.
That was crazy! How old are you? I'm Aliyah Moulden, and I'm 15 years old, and I'm from La Habra, California.
What are they feeding these children? [Laughter.]
This is not normal.
You're amazing.
Man, who are you gonna pick? I hope it's not Blake.
[Laughter.]
You probably are wondering, "Why would I go with Blake? He's a country artist.
" But I've had a lot of success on this show with young people.
Two in particular who've won the show have been young girls Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope.
And you have so much energy and power in your vocals.
Thanks! And to be that calm in this setting at 15 years old, that's who I want on my team.
I want you on my team.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
This hound dog song, which is kind of, like, grimy and like, "You ain't nothing but a" And then, here you are, like pure.
Thanks.
I love what you brought to it.
I think by the end of this show, you're gonna be blossoming in a way that you never even imagined, and I would love to help you so that you don't make the wrong choices sometimes.
She's right about making wrong choices.
[Whistles.]
[Laughter.]
Gwen: Hi, Aliyah.
Back when I was 15, I was just discovering music.
And through music, I discovered myself.
Yeah.
One thing that you need to discover is, what is the message you want to give? I would love to work with you.
Come be on Team Gwen.
[Cheers and applause.]
Aliyah: Thanks.
Alicia: Wow.
Adam: I think it's time.
Aliyah, who do you pick as your coach? Come on.
[Audience shouting.]
Come on! Let's do this! Aww, she's so cute! Gwen, Gwen, Gwen, Gwen, Gwen! I pick Blake.
[Cheers and applause.]
Boom, clap, the sound of my heart The beat goes on and on and on and on and You picked me! You picked me! Blake: I do think Aliyah is special.
And the fact that she chose me nobody's more surprised than I am, and I'm gonna take this very serious because she has such good instincts when it comes to singing, and she seems like somebody that really wants to work.
You are built for this competition.
Thank you so much! Yes, ma'am.
He always gets the young girls! [Laughs.]
Let's go meet your people! Okay! Oh, my God.
Now you can start falling apart.
[Chuckles.]
I know! [Laughs.]
Boom, clap, the sound of my heart Aliyah: I chose Blake because I liked what he said.
I don't sing country music, but watching previous seasons influenced my decision a lot.
Blake really cares for his contestants.
- Come here! - Thank you for turning! Boom, clap, the sound of my heart I just want a little girl to pick me! Alicia: I know! Don't you think a little girl should pick me? [Audience shouting.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Blake: So, here's the deal is, I've hit my button for men and women, but I only have gotten women on my team.
Alicia: Right.
Like, young, cute ones I noticed, too.
I mean You dang right.
it is what it is.
Daly: As our coaches get settled, let's meet our next artist 16-year-old Savannah Leighton from Spring Garden, Alabama.
My hometown is really tiny.
There's about 300 people.
Here, it's like wide, open spaces.
When I'm not at school, I'm working a weekend job at Tony's Steak Barn.
There you go.
I had to grow up kind of fast, because over the years, it's been a little tough for our family.
Music has always kind of been my escape.
When I was 6 years old, my dad left and my family kind of fell apart.
My mom was working three jobs to support me and my two little brothers.
And then when my stepdad, Paul, came into our lives, he was the light at the end of the tunnel for us.
And everything's better than I ever thought that it c [Sighs.]
[Chuckles.]
I'm sorry.
[Sniffles.]
We, um We've had it rough, but I'm super proud of her because I've seen how far she's come and how hard she's worked.
Aww.
[Laughs.]
Savannah: Right now, I do gigs at restaurants and at my school, but there's no music opportunities where I'm from, and I never thought I would be here.
I've been watching this show since Season 1, and I want to prove to the coaches that I'm something they haven't seen before.
There she is.
Oh, she's so beautiful.
Oh, no, did I get too close? Oh, did I almost see What's really on the inside? Unconditional Unconditionally I will love you Unconditionally So open up your heart and just let it begin Open up your heart and just let it begin Open up your heart and just let it begin Open up your heart Oh, I will love you Unconditionally, yeah! - Yeah! - She got it.
There is no fear now Let go and just be free 'Cause I will love you Unconditionally Oh, yeah [Cheers and applause.]
[Chuckling.]
No! Wow! She got both of them.
Both of them! Wow.
No! No hugging! No hugging! Why are you crying? Why are you crying? It's intense, right? That was so good.
Thank you.
How old are you? That is an illegal motion! [Laughter.]
Gwen: This is This is really exciting right now.
Wow.
What did y'all talk about already? We just talked about stuff.
What do you mean? Alicia: Let me start.
What's your name? That was so beautiful.
I'm Savannah Leighton, I'm 16 years old, and I'm from Spring Garden, Alabama.
Ahh! 16! [Cheers and applause.]
You can really hear that you have so much in your voice and so much to offer, and I'm so glad that these two lovebirds, um [Laughter.]
are gonna express their love for you.
Thank you.
- Hi, Savannah.
- Hi! [Laughter.]
See? Oh, no.
[Sighs.]
[Laughter.]
Alicia, we should be, like, calling it like a sporting event.
Like, "Oh! That's a bad sign.
" I know! [Laughter.]
"Oh, no, she almost went into tears when Blake said hello.
" [Laughter.]
I-I can't imagine how you must feel right now.
But You know, I can actually imagine how you feel right now, because I'm actually a girl and I [Laughter.]
I can relate to you.
"With a surprising move, Gwen Stefani takes the lead again.
" [Laughter.]
Well, you know what? Gwen knows nothing about girls from the South.
Uh, Southern California.
Hello? [Laughs.]
That was good.
That was good.
I am willing to get myself in bad trouble here, because I believe in you so much [Cheers and applause.]
What? "Looks like Blake takes the lead, but may be sleeping on the couch tonight.
" [Laughter.]
Okay, Savannah, what I don't understand is, why would you go with a grown man, right? [Laughter.]
Like, I just don't understand, when you could go [Laughing.]
You made it really creepy.
[Laughter.]
when you when you could hang out with me.
I was a little girl.
I was a teenager.
Now I'm a mother.
I mean, I can mother you.
I can I can! [Laughter.]
Lookit, I'm not even being passionate for me.
'Cause I can't understand how the girls don't want to go with the girl, and and I don't want to be intimidating, but I want you to know that I have so much to offer you that he can't! I think you're being a little intimidating.
No, I know, but he can't [Laughter.]
Let me Let me Can I say one thing? I swear, I-I When you buy a sweater that looks like a barcode, does it freak out the cash register? Is the cash register like they're trying to sweep the whole thing? You need to think about that for a minute and let let me do my thing here for a second.
I do not need to think about that.
You know what? I got to say something.
She has lived your dream.
I was never a little girl.
[Laughter.]
I never made it as a female singer.
Debatable.
[Laughter.]
You are my chance to live the girl's dream.
Oh, my God.
Please, Savannah.
Let's do it! [Cheers and applause.]
Come on, Savannah! Alicia: All right, Savannah.
Who do you choose as your coach? [Audience shouting.]
Come on, Savannah! - Blake! Blake! - Two Blakes, Two Gwens? [Audience shouting.]
Uh, I pick Gwen.
Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Thank you! - Yes! - Thank you! Whoo-hoo! - You're so good, sweetie.
- Thank you.
[Shouts indistinctly.]
I didn't think she was gonna pick me, but I got her.
I'm so excited, and you can tell she's deep and emotional.
I'm real excited to help her find herself as an artist.
- Yay! - I love Blake, but I feel like I can connect more with Gwen.
She has girl power, and she can teach me how to be more confident as a performer.
Nice job! [Cheering.]
- Good job! - Good job, baby! Does that sweater really freak out the cash register, though? [Laughter.]
Never thought I'd have actual, physical proof that you have no sense of humor, but that joke that joke did it for me.
[Laughs.]
Ooh, child.
Now I know for sure that you are straight-up not funny.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Nick: Growing up in the small town that I did, this is such a huge opportunity for me.
If I could get a coach to turn for me today, it would change my life forever.
I'm Nick Townsend, I am 23 years old, and I'm from Tekamah, Nebraska.
I know you got this.
You're amazing.
Thanks.
Growing up, sports was my life.
I played football, baseball, wrestled, track, golf.
My junior and senior year, I got all-state linebacker.
Coming from that small-town life, singing wasn't really a thing people did, so I was always just doing it, like, in the shower, in the car, and singing along with the radio.
Where's the music come in? My junior year of high school, a performing arts college called The Young Americans - came to my town.
- Yep.
And watching them perform really just, like, pushed my drive and my passion.
I came out to L.
A.
for the The Young Americans Performing Arts College.
And then I got to travel all over Japan, Europe, the U.
K.
and teach thousands of kids.
And just by teaching them, I learned so much about music and about who I was as a person.
Elizabeth: It gives me goose bumps just listening to him.
[Voice breaking.]
I'm very proud of him.
Here we go.
There's Nick.
[Sighs.]
I've been here before But I always hit the floor But I feel like a storm is coming If I'm gonna make it through the day There's no more use in running This is something I've got to face If I risk it all Could you break my fall? [Falsetto.]
How do I breathe? When you're not here, I'm suffocating For you, I'd have to risk it all 'Cause the writing's on The wall The writing's on the wall [Cheers and applause.]
- Wow! - What is your name? Nick Townsend, I'm 23, and I'm from Tekamah, Nebraska, - but I live in Anaheim now.
- Oh, Anaheim? - Oh, nice.
- That's where I'm from.
- That's where Gwen's from.
- Oh, really? Hey, man, listen, you got a great voice.
Thank you.
And I think that the biggest thing that I heard you are a tiny bit flat.
Try to be sharp, and you might find that you'll be right in that sweet spot.
- I think you got a great voice.
- Thank you.
I appreciate it.
I think you're, like, right there, right there.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
Yes, Nick, I was very impressed.
You did this flawless transition between chest and head.
It was really, really beautiful.
I felt like I heard maybe a little more of the technicality than I heard the emotion, so that would be the only thing that I would say to mix up.
- So good job, man.
- Thank you.
- All right.
- Appreciate that.
Thank you guys so much.
Alicia: Good job, Nick.
Thank you.
Nick did have a Broadway-style voice.
It's not exactly the style that I tend to gravitate toward, but I'm waiting for something special.
Thank you.
Good to meet you, man.
Nick: Obviously, it stinks a little bit, but I'm going to just keep working and see what comes of it.
Daly: Coming up This is extra surreal, 'cause I've waited on you before.
You did? Oh, I remember, 'cause we were sitting there and you said, "The last time I was here, the waitress was so rude.
" [Laughter.]
If you would pick me as your coach Bye! [Cheers and applause.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Thank you.
My name is Lilli Passero.
I'm 26 years old, and I'm from Los Angeles, California.
Here's your soup.
I'm an actor and a singer.
To pay the bills, I work as a server at The Six Restaurant in Studio City, and I've been here about 3 1/2 years.
Balancing my server schedule with performing in clubs can be a little bit tricky, but I'm very lucky that the people I work for are so supportive.
How did you get involved in singing? I have been singing for as long as I can remember.
I grew up in a very musical household, watching old musicals and listening to the greats Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand.
"Gentleman Prefer Blondes" was my favorite movie growing up, so in preschool, I would get on the lunch tables and sing for all my teachers, "A Kiss on the Hand.
" Diamonds are a girl's best friend Such a classic Los Angeles story.
Yeah.
I mean, you're this young, talented woman.
You work here.
The only difference between you and a million other servers around us is that you've got this incredible opportunity at "The Voice.
" I know.
It's what I've always wanted.
For my blind audition, I'll be singing "A Love of My Own" by Carla Thomas.
This song is a little bit risky because it has definitely an old-fashioned vibe.
If a chair doesn't turn for me, it's back to waiting tables.
I need "The Voice" to happen for me today, because I want to sing.
Here we go.
I look at the mountains I look at the sun I look at everything Mother Nature has done Then I want to know Why can't I find a love of my own? Love How I've waited for you But it looks like you'll never come So I sit down, sit down And think the thing over Is it something I've done? I look at the flowers No! In fullest bloom I should be happy But I'm filled with gloom 'Cause I want to know Why can't I find a love Of my own? Oooh [Cheers and applause.]
Whoo! Blake: Wow! Well, that was cool.
- Whoa! - Wow! What is your name? Hi, I'm Lilli Passero, I'm 26, and I'm from Studio City.
- Studio City? - What? [Cheers and applause.]
Is that where we are right now? I love that you don't know where that is.
That's, like, five minutes from here.
[Laughter.]
There is something so classic about her.
And that note that you hit at the end What kind of music do you listen to? That was pretty.
I'm very inspired by a lot of vintage artists.
- Like who? - Uh - Blake Shelton? - Yes.
[Laughter.]
Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye.
That was so good.
Lilli, will you please pick me? Maybe.
[Chuckles.]
- Please, or - She's an honest girl.
She said, "Maybe.
" Okay.
That's what you're always supposed to tell a boy.
[Laughter.]
I'll think about it.
[Cheers and applause.]
Keep them on the hook.
Yeah, yeah.
And it works! Wow.
That was so cool.
Thank you.
I think, like, songs from the '50s and the '60s are so well-written, and there's, like, this simplicity that's so poignantly emotional.
And, like, I would love to just explore that world with you even more and let that be your lane.
- Thank you so much.
- Yeah.
[Cheers and applause.]
Hi, Lilli.
This is extra surreal, 'cause I've I've waited on you before.
You did? Where? At The Six Restaurant.
We went there.
Oh, I remember, 'cause we were sitting there and you said, "The last time I was here, the waitress was so rude.
[Laughter.]
I don't want to go there.
" Remember that? All right, Lilli, I love your voice.
I feel like it has that kind of theatrical style to it.
And I love the vintage sound, as well, and so I'd love to have you on my team and be your Studio City homey.
Mind, uh Mind if I do the honors here? Wait, wait, wait! Alicia? - Can I do one last thing? - You may do one last thing.
Alicia: Bah-bah, bah bah bah bah bah bah Oh, God.
Bah bah bah bah bah bah [Cheers and applause.]
Oh, Lilli [Cheers and applause.]
Let me tell you somethin' If you would pick me as your coach [Cheers and applause.]
Whoo! I could show you I could tell you How to put your feelings on your sleeve Tell everybody just what you mean [Cheers and applause.]
Oh, Lilli [Chuckling.]
Oh, my God! What is happening? Oh, Lilli Bye.
Oh, Lilli Oh, Lilli [Cheers and applause.]
So, which one of us do you pick as your coach? [Audience shouting.]
I pick Alicia.
[Cheers and applause.]
I'm unstoppable Whoo! I'm a Porsche with no brakes I'm invincible Man Thank you.
I had to choose Alicia.
She sang me a song.
Thank you.
I think that she can help me hone in on who I want to be as an artist.
Lilli! Unstoppable today Alicia is crushing it right now.
Cool.
And I'm finding out that, really, all Alicia has to do to win is just sing to the artist.
Look at Lilli! Look at Lilli! [Cheering.]
