I'm out here in the Caribbean
with my bestest buddies ever,
on the beautiful island of St Auguste.
It was a long flight - yawn -
but I did keep my skin hydrated.
So I'll give you some tips
on that later.
And I got to travel
Four years studying law,
I finally make partner,
and she earns twice as much as me
talking rubbish on the internet.
The world is going to hell
in a handcart.
We're going to go suss out
the hotel now,

Who's the victim?
I might know them if it's someone local.
It's a British woman
staying at the hotel.
She is only in her 30s.

So, the victim's name is Abigail Warner.
Arrived from the UK
and checked in yesterday afternoon.
Alone? Last-minute booking.
The local doctor is pretty sure
Miss Warner drowned.
She assumed Miss Warner banged her head
on the bottom of the pool
when she dived in
and knocked herself out.
What a way to go, huh?
No-one was here when it happened?
No, but we do have
a definite time of death,
courtesy of the victim's smart watch.
The app monitoring her heart rate shows
it started to slow down at 8.14
and was stopped dead by 8.15.

when something is not quite right.
I saw her earlier this morning
when I was running on the beach.
I think it was around 7.30.

I mean, she went for a swim in the sea
and almost straight after came here
and went for another swim in the pool?

They dived in, dragged her out.

they'd never met the woman.

The victim was only here for 12 hours.
She seemed nice and polite.

We've been looking into the victim,
um, Abigail Warner,
and it turns out she attended
an exclusive private school
called Hardens in west London
in her teens.
Now, Darlene said the guests
who found the victim
were quite
"highfalutin" is the word she used.
So we did a quick check and found
this.

I already checked with the maid,
and she confirmed
that she heard raised voices,
saw Miss Dempsey leaving shortly after.

That was just before eight o'clock.
So Abbey came back to her room
after swimming on the beach.
Yeah.

I came straight down
and met the others for breakfast.

went dawn to the pool at half past
and found Miss Warner dead?

Abigail lived a little outside London,
worked for a large
city accountancy firm,
currently not in a relationship.
I'm going to speak
with her more in the morning,
when we've worked out
what we're dealing with here.
Also, I checked with reception,
and Abbey only made the booking
a few days ago,
not long after Cressida Dempsey
announced their trip
on social media.
So, she came to St Auguste
possibly knowing
that her four old classmates
would be there.
And 12 hours later, she's found dead.
Suspicious, to say the least.
Hmm.
Except, if her death wasn't an accident
and someone drowned her,
our four likely suspects were
together in the restaurant
when it happened at 8.15.
So if it was one of them

Felt like she never really fitted in.
Got teased, then bullied - badly.

instigated by Hugo Kingsley.
Sounds like he made her life
pretty miserable.

He could be pretty hard on me at times.

some of that onto Abbey.
She became a sort of punchbag,
I'm somewhat ashamed to admit.

Because she was an easy target.

stuck out like a sore thumb
with that accent
and her bad hair, cheap clothes

any of this would mean
I'd go and drown the woman now,
I really don't know.
We still don't know
what Abbey was doing here.

So, the UK police have
just finished searching
Abigail Warner's flat.
They found a journal
that she'd started a few months ago,
and there's references
to all four suspects in it.
They're going to scan it
and send it over.
I spoke to Abigail's GP.
She's had therapy
on and off over the years.
Started in her early 20s.
I think what happened at Hardens
cast a bit of a shadow.
She suffered anxiety
and some depression.
So why come all the way here,
to a hotel where the people
who bullied you are staying,
all these years later?
What did she want?
Also
the postmortem
and toxicology came through -
confirms Abigail Warner's death
was due to drowning,
time of death as 8.15.

The toxicology report found
traces of sleeping tablets
in her system.
Yeah, they were prescribed by her GP.

to make sense of what happened.

Which is why I cross-checked it,
and I found this.
On the night of the 5th of March 2010,
Amelia Templeton was involved
in a road traffic accident.
It was near the River Thames,
a place called Barnes,
and according to the report,
Abigail Warner was in the car too.
And was it serious?
Well, no-one was injured too badly,
but if it was just a minor RTA,
why would it still haunt Abigail?
What was she scared to make sense of?
AMELIA: It's not what you think.
There's no dark secret about that
night that I'm hiding from you.
OK, so what happened? Tell me.
There was a party at a friend's house.
Parents away, lots of kids from school.
I was driving there, running late,
when I saw Abbey walking
the other way, tears streaming.
So what did you do?
I pulled over and got out.
She looked broken,
like it had all got too much for her,
the last ounce of resilience
stamped out.
Had someone harmed her in some way?
Not physically, no.
She insisted no-one had touched her.

It was probably just more of the same.
I - I couldn't leave her like that,
so we got in my car and just drove.
Talked a bit. Me more than her.

I just tried to convince her
that there were just four months
till the end of school.
If she could finish her exams
and get out of Hardens,
then life would get better.
She just nodded,
like even a few months felt unbearable.
Hmm.
And after that?
I drove her home.
Um, I was distracted,
keeping an eye on her.
That's when the accident happened.
Abbey covered for me
so I wouldn't get in trouble
with my dad.
It was like a pact between us.
She helped me out
if I didn't tell anyone
the state I found her in.
So why do you stay friends with them,
knowing how they treated her?
To be honest
we hardly see each other any more-
Just odd things like this, thankfully.
But to answer your question,
it's because I've seen what they can do
if you don't play along.
And even now, all these years later
it's safer inside the tent than out.
On the same day she booked
the tickets to fly out here
she wrote, "I need to be brave."
Nothing after that.
Which again suggests
she travelled to St Auguste
for a reason - to confront
her past in some way.
And what about working out
how our killer managed to drown
Abigail Warner?
No progress at this end,
I'm afraid, sir.

will have to remain
on St Auguste another night.

This is the last entry
in Abigail Warner's journal,
written over a week ago.
"I need to be brave."
Having lived under the shadow
of fear for so long,
enduring what she was
put through at school,
and struggling on and off
with the fallout,
she wanted change in her life,
a sense of justice.
And the only way for her to achieve that
was to face the demons
that had haunted her for so long.

So, having seen you announce online
that you were all reuniting here,
on St Auguste,
I think Abbey saw it as her one chance,
her one shot at standing up to you all.

covertly by Abbey
in her hotel bedroom
the night before she was murdered.
It explains an awful lot.

And that's why Abbey had to die.
Because she was about to reveal
to the world
just who you really are.
And you knew you'd never survive it,
not when all you've got
to offer is yourself.
Because I checked.
Six million followers,
a six-figure income,
all gone because Abbey
wanted to tell the truth,
to be brave.
I think she probably knew
you hadn't changed,
Miss Dempsey,
but I don't think
she ever thought for a second
that you would resort to murder.
I - I didn't murder her.

The morning after the conversation
we just witnessed,
you went to see Abbey again,
around seven,
under the pretence of convincing her
to reconsider her actions.
But once more,
there was an ulterior motive.
You intended to dope her.
Exhibit A - Abigail Warner's
sleeping tablets.
I assume you noticed them
when you were in her room
the previous night
and realised that would be
a method of murder.
So when you visited her
the next morning
I think you made an excuse
to go to the bathroom.
Once you were alone,
you took the powder from the capsules,
and when you went back to the bedroom,
sneaked them into her water flask.
Now, it wouldn't take too long
for them to start working,
so I assume you kept an eye on Abbey.
DARLENE:
And by the time the sleeping pills
were taking effect,
Abbey had had her swim
and was heading back
to her room, feeling

suddenly drowsy.
You'd obviously noticed
that Abbey wore a smart watch.
You'd worked out
how you could just delay
her death in some way.
Then you could give yourself an alibi.
But how?
It's my Inspector who worked it out.
In the photo Abbey took of herself
the night before the murder,
there's an airbed seen floating
on the pool behind her.
When I searched the storage area
by the swimming pool,
it was deflated.
Exhibit B.
When Abbey was out cold,
you did two things.
Firstly, you inflicted
a small wound to her head,
so that when her drowned body
was recovered,
we'd assume she banged her head
on the bottom of the pool.
You then moved her body onto the airbed,
which is what caused
the abrasions on her skin.
Then you pushed
the airbed into the pool.
Once she was in place

..you began to let the air out.
Having left Abbey like this,
you needed to make sure
no-one discovered her.
With the pool having
already been cleaned,
there would be no reason
for the staff to go down there,
and the guests were all at breakfast.
But just in case one of them
suddenly decided to go for a swim,
I think you put out the sign
stating the pool was closed
for cleaning,
so if anyone did approach,
they'd turn back.
That's right.
When Cress and I got dawn
to the pool at half eight,
the sign was still out.
Seemed odd.
That can't be right.
This left you one more task
to complete -
give yourself an alibi.
So you took Abbey's key,
headed back to her room,
and made it appear
as if you and she were arguing.
But I just need you to tell me
what you're doing here, Abbey.
But what the maid really heard
Fine! Forget it.
was just you.
You left the room, making sure
that you were noticed,
and went and joined
your friends for breakfast,
here at the restaurant.
Meanwhile, the air seeped out
of the airbed
keeping Abbey afloat,
until it became waterlogged
and sank to the bottom of the pool
leaving Abbey face down
and unconscious in the water.
And that's how she drowned
dying at 8.15 exactly,
while you were surrounded
by a restaurant full of witnesses
who would all confirm
you were nowhere near
the scene of the crime.
I assume after you and Amelia
discovered the body together,
you waited for her to go
and get some help,
before removing the deflated airbed
from the pool and putting it
back in the storage room.
Abbey's water flask has gone
to the lab for testing,
and we all know
what the results will be.
The one thing you didn't bank on
was that Abbey
was one step ahead of you.
I believe, as she walked
from the beach to the pool that morning,
the sleeping tablets
starting to take effect,
she realised
something was terribly wrong.
So just in case,
she left the memory card
with the footage
from the night before on it
in a place we'd eventually find it.
All she wanted was for people
to hear what happened to her,
to know the truth of what you did
all three of you did
and now they will.
Cressida Dempsey, I'm arresting you
for the murder of Abigail Warner.
